What Modern Pokemon Means to Me

I've felt this way for so long, and I can't just not talk about it anymore. I'm hoping to find more people who feel this way, and I think Tumblr is the best place to do so. (cw: su/c/de)

In elementary school, I was cheerful and loud all the time, and people thought I was weird for it. I had been told my whole life that I was so unique and special, and since I only got that validation from adults, I would do everything in my power to get more validation by doing whatever adults told me to do and valuing whatever they told me to value. I was almost blindly obedient, and I sought academic validation. I started masking my ADHD. I was so stiff on the outside that I rarely cried anymore, especially at things other people would cry over. I felt like there was something wrong with me, or that I really was emotionless.

When puberty started and genetic mental illnesses came into play, I became a husk. I never displayed emotion, and people called me a zombie. I was frustrated. What did they want from me if I couldn't be loud or quiet? Classmates would ask me unprompted if I was depressed, exchange an amused look with their friends if they were paired with me for a group project, and whisper about me when they thought I couldn't hear.

Since I was a preteen, I would continually push away the people in my life because I had mental health issues that made it draining to talk to people. I wanted to spend all my time alone because I wanted to rest--I constantly wanted to be left alone in silence because everything going through my head was already too stimulating. My younger brother, my biggest supporter, would try asking me to play with him or try to talk to me about something he was excited about, and I pushed him away every time. He thought it was because I was tired and lazy all the time, because that was what I told him. He began to resent me for always leaving him alone, and even though I never tried explaining myself or even going to him for support, I thoroughly believed it was my fault for leaving him behind.

People who make fun of "teenage angst" are just making fun of themselves for what they see as "dramatic" looking back. It's easy to forget that regardless of what hormones generate them, feelings of depression are real and harmful. It felt like no matter where I turned, there was no light to overcome the darkness.

Gens 7 and 8 of Pokemon have gotten me through the worst of my teenage and pre-teen years. I had been following the Gen 6 anime by the time it was ending, and I was so excited for the next chapter of Ash's journey. I remember going around school telling everyone, "ASH LEAVES KALOS ON THURSDAY! NOVEMBER 17!!!" Not many people wanted to hear it, but for what felt like the first time in forever, I didn't care. I was already known as a zombie at school, and there weren't many things I unapologetically loved so much.

I was in middle school when covid hit. During online school, I felt lonely, scared, and sad. I had the rest and lack of stimulation I had always wanted, but I didn't realize how much it helped to be at school where I was forced to interact with other people. When I was really alone with my thoughts, I couldn't find a reason to live anymore. I was having s//c/d/l thoughts. One day during my lunch time, as I nibbled at my sandwich with my head down on the desk, I decided I may as well catch up on the latest episodes of Pokemon Journeys.

The Beautifly episode was playing, but I was only half paying attention, barely able to focus on anything. Ash had misheard and thought they were going to watch Beautifly hydrate, and Goh had a short fantasy about a Beautifly laying on the beach with a cup of juice before realizing the mistake.

He phrased it something like:

"Yeah, they look so peaceful when theY HYDRA-HOLD ON!!!!"

And I just died laughing.

I knew the joke wasn't funny. The funny part was Zeno Robinson's delivery. I must have replayed it ten times. It was the first time in months that I'd felt like everything was okay.

I even showed the scene to my brother. We both laughed at it for at least ten minutes. It was so nice to share something with him.

I became a bigger fan of the show, and started shipping Ash and Goh. It wasn't because Goh was flamboyant, although I won't deny that many fans assert him to be a certain sexuality based on how he presents himself, which is stereotyping at best and homophobic fetishization at worst. I ship the characters because I think they're compatible and are just cute together. That was when I found the Satogou Discord server.

I had never really had online friends like the ones I had on that server. For what felt like the first time, I had found people I could talk about anything with for hours. While progress wasn't a straight line, I was beginning to have s//c/d/al thoughts less and less because the people and media in my life filled me with light to overcome that darkness.

And then episode 62 aired.

In that episode, Goh's Sobble evolves into Drizzile. It was so excited to be an Inteleon that it didn't realize there was a middle stage in between. It couldn't even use Water Gun properly anymore, and other Pokemon made fun of it for that. It began isolating itself, and when Cinderace forced it to come out of its cave, it ran away in tears.

When Goh finds Drizzile, he tells it about his own childhood, when he was pointed out as being different for reasons even he didn't fully understand. When he asked himself "Why?" he only felt frustrated. This is what he tells Drizzile:

"I don't understand, but that's okay. And I don't need immediate answers, either. ... I'm fine if you just want to be who you are. ... If it helps you to nest, just do it. And if at some point you feel like being with a friend..."

"...I'll be there whenever you need me."

I didn't cry. I almost cried, but I didn't. And I didn't need a reason why anymore. Anyone else may have cried. I might have been a zombie or a husk for not crying.

...Maybe it was because I wasn't overwhelmed by what was going through my head anymore. It made me remember what I had been through, but the way these characters reached out to me was so much more meaningful than anything that came before.

The media that allowed me to laugh and to live and to make friends with ease once again provided light to me, not blinding me, but providing for me a moment of clarity.

I know not everyone likes the newer seasons of Pokemon. It doesn't fit the formula that provided light to those who have been fans for a longer time, and believe me, I understand how important these things are, but goddamnit, it's one thing to dislike a piece of media and an entirely different thing to continue arguing when you find out it means something to someone else. I respect those who don't like the newer seasons, and I won't tell you they're better than the ones that came before because, at least to me, they simply can't be compared to each other.

I know not everyone likes Goh, but I miss him so much for what he represented, and I can't thank the creators of Pokemon 2019 enough for what they went through to make what they did.

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 097 - Surprise Dreadnaught

Star Trek: Discovery - Season 1 Episode 2 - Battle of the Binary Stars

We open with a Flashback to Michael meeting Captain Georgiou for the first time, specifically the moment she was handed off from the Vulcan Academy to the become a member of the Shenzhou's crew. Flashback-Michael is basically a walking Vulcan Stereotype, I'm interested to see how she got from this to the much more impuslive Michael we're seeing in the present.

We're given just enough to intrigue me about her character development before we cut back to the situation in the present. Apparently the number of Klingon ships correlates to the number of great klingon houses, and we're talking about the Reunification of the Klingon Empire again, which like I mentioned yesterday, the Empire was intact last time we saw in Enterprise, so what happened in the century between the shows? It's a huge development, and without much of an explanation, I can only assume it was the forehead mutation thing that just shattered the entirety of Klingon Society.

We're treated to a scene with the Klingons after the intro, and we do find out some information. Apparently, the Klingons fought the federation at some point after it's founding, although the details of that conflict aren't given, and the Klingons view the Federation as an expansionist threat. The Klingon who's trying to unite the Klingon empire also start spouting some fascist racial purity rhetoric.

The Federation fleet arrives and communications open, but the Klingons don't listen. A battle ensues, and it does not go well for the Shenzhou. I'm not sure what to make about how Discovery is depicting this battle, we get a lot of shots from the Shenzhou's bridge, which are great, but space-shots are a bit over-stimulating for me, I definitely preferred how Enterprise depicted it's space combat. I do love that, for whatever reason, the ships themselves feel a lot heavier in this though.

While she's locked up in the Brig, we cut to another childhood flashback for Michael. It's a very brief flashback, showing some destroyed room, I think it was the same place as the academy flashback last episode, and Sarek initiating a mindmeld with her as a child, and as we later find out, him transferring his Katra, to her. Apparently, this creates a similar mental communication bond that Trip and T'Pol had, albeit without the Romantic context.

The Shenzou is rescued from near destruction by the Europa, the ship that the Admiral of this fleet commands. The Admiral requests the Klingons for a Ceasefire, which they accept, but it's all a ruse for a surprise attack. T'Kuvma's fleet has advanced cloaking devices on this absolutely huge ship. When T'Kuvma mentioned invisible ships, I was expecting hundreds of small ones, to the visual of the absolutely Titanic battleship carving through the Europa like butter was really unexpected striking visual. And of course, a tonne of small ships along side it to mop up the Federation's fleet. Apparently, this display is enough for the Klingons to declare T'Kuvma their emperor, and all of their ships except T'Kuvma's return to Klingon Space.

We get some really good thinking, both from Michael, trying to escape he Brig cell which is entirely contained by a forcefield that will soon fail, and From Saru who figures out a way to do damage to the Klingon flagship eventhough all of Shenzhou's weapons are offline! Michael eventually arrives at the bridge and also makes the point that capturing T'Kuvma is a lot more valuable that creating a martyr out of him.

The finalised plan is to plant explosives from Shenzhou's torpedos onto the Klingon dead, then detonate them when the dead are retrieved. I'm pretty sure that constitutes as a war crime, but hey, it's a creative idea at least, and it works. Georgiou and Michael then transport aboard the klingon ship to extract T'Kuvma, and we're treated to a really nice sword fight between Georgiou and T'kuvma. I wasn't expecting the captain to be killed off in Episode 2! This twist got me good!

We end the episode with Michael's mutiny charges being read, and her court martial. She is found guilty and sentenced to prison, and I'm interested on where we go from here. Is Discovery gonna be a jailbreak show following Michael's path after her trial? Is it gonna follow Saru? This episode has proved a huge turning point, and I'm here for it!

My point of view on Red White and Royal Blue (movie, 2023) ❤️🤍💙

Red White and Royal Blue (movie) was out on Friday (11th August) and finally my our long and torturing wait was over. I read the book earlier this year and I couldn’t wait for the visual take of it.

The main reason why I love the book so much is because it never went down the road of stereotypes about same-sex relationships or LGBTQ community itself and badly-written clichés of the romantic art world (I’m somewhere in the aromantic spectrum, keep that in mind). I didn’t fear that the book would fail to keep those very important elements of the book intact even though I was sure that some parts wouldn’t make it because a 400+ page book can’t be squeezed in 2 hours.

I’m very glad that I was (mostly) right.

To be fair, I missed June, Leo and Rafael in the movie because I find their characters either pretty important to how the story was shaped or pretty fun (or both). But I get that they had to be cut so the movie wouldn’t last for 5 hours (which I wouldn’t personally mind either). What I really missed was Alex realizing he’s bisexual (and not already knowing so) and all that mental journey he has on that specific part of the book where he understands in such an in-depth way who he truly is. As a bisexual person myself, I find that part of the book so relatable and so inspiring. I had never realized it before. up until I wrote that chapter; I did miss representation so badly.

However I found the movie to be breathtakingly beautiful. Everything was as I imagined it to be. 

Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine were the perfect choices for Alex and Henry respectively. It was uncanny how invested they got me. The way they played their roles with so much respect to the true core of their characters and with so much respect to what Alex and Henry and their love story represent for us, the fans. So spectacular. The wittiness, the passion, the fun and the love Alex and Henry share were all there, we could touch it. It was heart-warming really. Uma Thurman was the PERFECT casting for Ellen, too. I love her (who doesn’t?).

I love how the movie was completely respectful to what the book stands for. A same-sex romance (true romance with problems and love and passion and all those things that make a true-life romance, as well) with two characters who have actual depth and they’re not tacky LGBTQ caricatures; they get to grow right before our eyes and right beside each other. It’s immensely appreciated that sexuality was discussed under a light of honesty with sprinkles of humor on top but not any intention of mockery. And what a refreshing moment was it when Ellen wanted to discuss with Alex about his sexuality and about safe sex. A mainstream movie, a platform movie and an Uma Thurman role talking protection and same-sex intercourse in a normal and casual manner because it is a normal and valid thing, you know… ❤️🤍💙

The 16+ scenes were all just what I wished for; two people who want to touch each other, who want to kiss, caress, hold, explore each other's body because their feelings dictate them to. As an aromantic person, I don’t usually connect sexual intercourse with love and feelings. But in a rom-com, you kinda look for a connection (or you just open p*rnhub) and it was definitely there.

The movie was fun. The movie was deep. The movie was romantic. The movie was hot. The movie was a romance with sharp points and even sharper intention to be the first one to have a same-sex couple in the center and not put any shame or doubt about how they felt for one another or for their sexuality. I truly loved that specific aspect.

This movie set the bar way too high for other LGBTQ rom-coms.

 

I’ve gone through a lot with accepting myself and it’s not always easy. It was amazingly stimulating to see Alex and Henry with flesh and bones right in front of me to be unapologetically themselves and embrace who they are and who they love.

 

Now I’m going to watch it for the fifth time 🫣

Enneagram 5 Trait Structure

Retentiveness

As usual, it is possible to find in this character a cluster of descriptors corresponding to the dominant passion. In it, along with avarice, belong such characteristics as lack of generosity in matters of money, energy and time, and also meanness — with its implication of an insensitivity to the needs of others. Among the characteristics of retentiveness it is important to take note of a holding on to the ongoing content of the mind, as if wanting to elaborate or extract the last drop of significance — a characteristic that results in a typical jerkiness of mental function, a subtle form of rigidity that militates against the individual’s openness to environmental stimulation and to what is emerging, the transition of the present mental state to the next. This is the characteristic which von Gebsattel has pointed out in “ananchastics” as a “getting stuck.”

We may say that the implicit interpersonal strategy of holding on implies a preference for self-sufficiency in regard to resources instead of approaching others. This, in turn, involves a pessimistic outlook in regard to the prospect of either receiving care and protection or having the power to demand or take what is needed.

Not Giving

Also the avoidance of commitment can be considered as an expression of not giving since it amounts to an avoidance of giving in the future. In this avoidance of commitment, however, there is also another aspect: the need of type V individuals to be completely free, unbound, unobstructed, in possession of the fullness of themselves — a trait representing a composite of avarice and an over-sensitivity to engulfment (to be discussed later). It may be pointed out that hoarding implies not just avarice, but a projection of avarice into the future — a protection against being left without. Here, again, the trait represents a derivation not only from avarice, but also from the intense need of autonomy of the character (see below).

Pathological Detachment

Given the reciprocity of giving and taking in human relationships, a compulsion to not give (surely the echo of perceiving in early life that it goes against survival to give more than is received) can hardly be sustained except at the expense of relationship itself — as if the individual considered: “If the only way to hold on to the little I have is to distance myself from others and their needs or wants, that is what I will do.”

An aspect of pathological detachment is the characteristic aloofness of ennea-type V; another, the quality of being a “loner,” i.e., one accustomed to being solitary and who, out of resignation in regard to relating, does not feel particularly lonely. Seclusiveness is, of course, part of the broader trait of detachment, since it requires emotional detachment and repression of the need to relate, to be in isolation. The difficulty that type V individuals have in making friends may be considered also here, for an important aspect of this difficulty is the lack of motivation to relate.

Though it is easy to see how detachment can arise as a complication of retentiveness, the giving up of relationship is interdependent with the inhibition of needs — for it could hardly be compatible to give up relationships and to be needy, and thus giving up relationship already implies a relinquishment or minimization of needs. While resignation in regard to one’s own needs is practically a corollary of detachment, the inhibition of the expression of anger in this character involves not only resignation in regard to love needs, but also the fear that is present in the schizoid personality in virtue of its position next to the left corner of the enneagram.

Fear of Engulfment

The fear and avoidance of being “swallowed up by others” might be a corollary of the avoidance of relationships, yet not only this, for it is also the expression of a half-conscious perception of one’s own suppressed need to relate, and (as Fairbairn has emphasized) a fear of potential dependency. The great sensitivity to interference and interruption of ennea-type V individuals is not only the expression of a detached attitude, but also a function of the person’s proneness to interrupt herself in the face of external demands and perceived needs of others. In other words, a great sensitivity to interference goes hand-in hand with an over-docility, in virtue of which the individual interferes all too easily with her own spontaneity, with her preferences, and with acting in a way coherent with her needs in the presence of others. Also, in light of this over-docility (understandable as a by-product of a strong repressed love need) we can understand the particular emphasis in aloneness in ennea-type V. To the extent that the relationship entails alienation from one’s own preferences and authentic expression there arises an implicit stress and the need to recover from it: a need to find oneself again in aloneness.

Autonomy

The great need for autonomy is an understandable corollary of giving up relationships. Together with developing the “distance machinery” (to use H.S. Sullivan’s expression), the individual needs to be able to do without external supplies. One who cannot get to others to satisfy his desires needs to build up his resources, stocking them up, so to speak, inside his ivory tower. Closely related to autonomy and yet a trait on its own is the idealization of autonomy which reinforces the repression of desires and underlies a life philosophy much like that which Hesse puts in Siddhartha’s mouth: “I can think, I can wait, I can fast.”

Feelinglessness

Though I have already alluded to a repression of needs, and mentioned the suppression of anger of ennea-type V, it seems desirable to group these descriptors along with others in a more generalized trait of feelinglessness. It has to do with the loss of awareness of feelings and even an interference with the generation of feeling, which results from the avoidance of expression and action. This characteristic makes some individuals indifferent, cold, empathic, and apathetic. Also anhedonia might be placed here, though the greater or lesser incapacity to enjoy pleasure is a more complex phenomenon: while ennea-type I is aversive to pleasure, ennea-type V simply appears as having a diminished capacity to experience it. In this is implicit, however, the fact that pleasure does not rank high in the scale of values of this character for it is postponed to more “urgent” drives, such as the drive to keep a safe distance from others and the drive for autonomy.

Postponement of Action

We may say that to act is to invest oneself, to put one’s energies into use, which goes against the grain of retentive orientation of type V. Yet, more generally, action can not be considered as separate from interaction, so when the drive to relate is low the drive to do is concomitantly lessened. On the other hand, action requires an enthusiasm for something, a presence of feelings — which is not the case in the apathetic individual. To do is also something like showing one’s self to the world, for one’s actions manifest one’s intentions. One who wants to keep his intentions hidden (as the avaricious typically does) will also inhibit his activity on these grounds and develop, instead of a spontaneous movement and initiative, an excessive restraint. The characteristic trait of procrastination may be regarded as a hybrid between negativism and the avoidance of action.

Cognitive Orientation

Ennea-type V is not only introversive (as is implied in moving away from relationships) but also typically intellectual (as introverts generally tend to be). Through a predominantly cognitive orientation the individual may seek substitute satisfaction—as in the replacement of living through reading. Yet the symbolic replacement of life is not the only form of expression of intense thinking activity: another aspect is the preparation for life—a preparation that is intense to the extent that the individual never feels ready enough. In the elaboration of perceptions as preparation for (inhibited) action, the activity of abstraction is particularly striking, type V individuals lean towards the activity of classification and organization, and not only display a strong attraction towards the process of ordering experience, but tend to dwell in abstractions while at the same time avoiding concreteness. This avoidance of concreteness, in turn, is linked to the type’s hiddenness: only the results of one’s perceptions are offered to the world, not its raw material.

Related to abstraction and the organization of experience is an interest in science and a curiosity in regard to knowledge. Also the inhibition of feelings and of action, along with the emphasis of cognition gives rise to the characteristic of being a mere witness of life, a non-attached yet keen observer of it, who in this very keenness seems to be seeking to replace life through its understanding.

Sense of Emptiness

Naturally, the suppression of feelings and the avoidance of life (in the interest of avoiding feelings) constitutes the avoidance of action along with an objective impoverishment of experience. We may understand the sense of sterility, depletion, and meaninglessness that are typical of type V as the result of an objective impoverishment in the life of relatedness, feeling, and doing. The prevalence of such a sense of inner vacuum in modern times (when other symptomatic neuroses have been relatively eclipsed by the “existential ones”) reflects the proportion of ennea-type V individuals in the consulting rooms of psychotherapists today. One psychodynamic consequence of this existential pain of feeling faintly existing is the attempt to compensate for the impoverishment of feeling and active life through the intellectual life (for which the individual is usually well endowed constitutionally) and through being a curious and/or critical “outsider.” Another more fundamental consequence, however, is the fact of “ontic insufficiency” in stimulating the dominant passion itself—as is the case in each one of the character structures.

Guilt

Ennea-type V (along with type IV, at the bottom of the enneagram) is characterized by guilt proneness—even though in type IV, it is more intensely felt—”buffered” by a generalized distancing from feelings.

Guilt manifests in a vague sense of inferiority, however, in a vulnerability to intimidation, in a sense of awkwardness and self-consciousness, and, most typically, in the very characteristic hiddenness of the person. Though guilt can be understood in light of the strong superego of type V, I believe that it is also a consequence of the early implicit decision of the person to withdraw love (as a response to the lovelessness of the outer world). The cold detachment of type V may thus be regarded as an equivalent to the anger of the vindictive type VIII, who sets out to go it alone and fights for his needs in a hostile world. His moving away from people is an equivalent to moving against, as if, in the impossibility to express anger, he annihilated the other in his inner world. In embracing an attitude of loveless disregard, he thus feels a guilt that is not only comparable to that of the tough-minded bully, but more “visible” since in the bully it is defensively denied, while here it manifests as a pervasive and Kafkaesque guilt proneness.

High Superego

The trait of high super-ego may be regarded as interdependent with guilt: the superego’s demanding results in guilt and is a compensatory response to it (not unlike the reaction formation involved in the high super-ego of ennea-type I). Like the type I individual, type V feels driven, and demands much out of himself as well as of others. It may be said that ennea-type I is more externally perfectionistic, ennea-type V internally so. Also, the former holds onto a relative identification with his super-ego, while the latter identifies with his inner “underdog.”

Negativism

A source trait related to the perception of the needs of others as binding, and also a form of rebellion against one’s own (superegoic) demands, is that which involves, beyond an avoidance of interference or influence, a wish to subvert the perceived demands of others and of oneself. Here we can see again a factor underlying the characteristic postponement of action, for sometimes this involves a wish not to do that which is perceived as a should, a wish not to “give” something requested or expected, even when the source of the request is internal rather than societal. Hypersensitivity

Though we have surveyed the insensitive aspect of type V, we also need to include its characteristic hypersensitivity, manifest in traits ranging from a low tolerance of pain to fear of rejection.

It is my impression that this trait is more basic (in the sense of being psychodynamically fundamental) than that of feelinglessness and that, as Kretschmer 20 has proposed, emotional dullness sets in precisely as a defense against the hypersensitive characteristic. It seems to me that an individual who feels full and substantial can stand more pain than one who feels empty.

Lack of pleasure and of the feeling of insignificance, thus, would seem to influence the limit of pain that can be accepted, and hypersensitivity itself, no doubt, stands as a factor behind the individual’s decision to avoid the pain of frustrating relationships through the choice of isolation and autonomy.

Zodiac Big 3 of the Hazbin Hotel Characters (Zodiac Series) (Angel)

I’m an admirer of astrology and things related to it. I am not a professional or even a person with vast depths of knowledge about it, yet I still find it quite enjoyable. So, because the Hazbin series are getting quite near, I thought I share my opinions on what placements the characters would have (you could call it a prediction too). This is based on the pilot and many headcanons that my brain came to think of.

(Yes, I have decided to use this as an intro. For now, at least.)  

ANGEL

Ascendant in Gemini

So, how do we engage with the world? How other people first perceive us? To who we are meant to grow in this lifetime? These and other questions may be answered with the help of the rising sign. As for Angel, I’m thinking Gemini.

Firstly, they are really fun, curious and charismatic people. They love to engage in various topics of conversation and definitely will tell you their opinion on the matter and won’t shy away from commenting their observations and thoughts about anything. I can just picture Angel Dust chilling and gossiping with Cherri. Plus, Gemini Ascendent tends to be very expressive with their words and hand gestures. I mean, the guy is a Spider sinner, so why wouldn’t he use those a lot?

On the flip side, they get disinterested easily if they aren’t feeling mentally stimulated. They jump from one thing to another really fast, there’s no routine or mundane activity that they will likely engage in for a while. It can show through the story, for instance, Angel trying out various suggested “good” activities from Charlie and quickly switching them. He would entertain the idea just because Angel would find it hilarious, maybe wanting to prove Charlie that he can’t really change.

Since Angel would be a Gemini rising, he would have a Sagittarius 7th house, which would mean that he is open minded, active and quite fun in his relationships. He would enjoy spending time with different kinds of sinners, talking about anything and everything. Another thing is longing for freedom which I see as his number one goal in the run of the series. Escaping from Valentino and learning how to be free from toxic patterns of behaviour.

Since Gemini is connected to communication in all of its forms, Angel is definitely not afraid to speak up, whether it be a real – life debate or just posting online. He finds engaging in the conversations quite fun. That also makes him really understanding and appreciating of other’s opinions. Angel would invite himself in a conversation that he wasn’t part of.

So, I believe that the Gemini Ascended Angel will be a communicating and charming social butterfly who will reach the goal of being completely free.

The Sun in Leo

What do we pride in? How’s our ego? What drives us to life? Those and various more questions can be answered with the help of our Sun placement. For our lovely Angel Dust, I picked Leo.

Our wonderful Leo Suns are playful, generous and creative people who wish to be seen in one way or the other. No matter if they’re the life of the party or a shy artist type of Leo, those people are still loving, supportive and have a bit of an ego. Angel does seem like life of the party kind of guy who knows how attractive he is. Doesn’t mean that he will be afraid to use it though.

Leo Sun is very expressive in many different ways – how they talk, how they look, what kind of things they create, how they present themselves to the world. The Sun is always looking for ways to be unique and true to its core. Angel is definitely everything but shying away from being dull and simple. However, Leo Sun can be stealing the spotlight for itself, not sharing it with other people. The Sun is also a star, so it needs to remember to be less self – absorbing and more inclusive. The Leo Sun also possesses a bit of confidence issues, although they are really well hidden. That could play out in the run of the show – Angel being stuck in between “I’m better than everyone” and “Everyone is better than me” mentalities while trying to find the healthy middle.

Of course, we can’t forget Leo Sun’s love for drama, romance and celebrating personal as well as their loved one’s victories. They are the type to hype everyone up and I can see Angel being there for everyone. His inner kindness being hidden behind a teasing and flirting mask.

All in all, I hope to witness Angel’s journey to become a healthy and confident Leo Sun who isn’t afraid of having fun.

The Moon in Libra

What brings us the most comfort? How to we express our feelings that is truest to our heart? What is hidden, only for us to know? These and other questions can be answered with the help of our Moon sign. Angel’s would be in the sign of Libra, in my opinion.

To begin with, Libra Moon is empathetic, fair and will stand up for their loved ones. I mean, how fast was Angel to help Cherri in a fight? The Moon is supportive and going with the flow, which shows how caring and adaptable Angel can be. (Can you imagine the hug you could get from Angel?).

However, there are some less positive traits of this Moon sign, as with all the other ones. This particular one is very likely to be co – dependent on other people. Be it romantic, platonic, family or any other kind, it can be crucial to the Moon. Libra Moon is no stranger staying in toxic relationships of its fear of becoming alone and its people pleasing tendencies. It will sacrifice its own needs and wants in relationships just to keep being in them. That could be shown in Angel’s relationship with Hazbin crew, Cherri, Molly, Valentino among other future connections. There is potential for him to learn how to set boundaries and accept that some of his relationships were quite awful, in that case, letting them go. Libra Moon can be superficial as well, which could be another struggle for Angel to defeat.

In general, Libra Moon is loving, likeable and loves to help its loved ones. There is also a need to love and be loved, which in itself is quite a beautiful possible lesson for Angel Dust. How to love the right people and how to accept their love.

To sum up, Angel Dust will have to learn and figure out how to love and be loved while also being caring and helpful, embracing his Libra Moon.

That’s my take on possible Angel Dust placements. Hope you had fun!

Hello! Saw the show on Sunday and loved every second! I'm also a non-union performer who is neurodivergent (ADHD with anxiety comorbidity though I suspect it could be something more) and I've lately been struggling with navigating the audition process and its characteristics (loud waiting rooms, disruption of routine, long travel days, over stimulation of NYC itself) with my how my brain works.

I also live a bit far from the city so I usually need to weigh pros and cons when deciding what to go out for. And I find I'm constantly weighing the effects on my mental state against the opportunities it could give me. Are their things you or your cast mates do to help accommodate during situations like that? Do you think their are accommodations that the theatre community could put in place in audition spaces to better include neurodiverse talent?

To be clear, the actual audition part of it never bothers me it's always the easiest part. I just find I feel completely fried by the time I get in the room because of what it took mentally to get myself there.

Either way How to Dance in Ohio is such a breath of fresh air and I hope it manages to find life after Broadway either on tour or in schools or maybe a spot off-broadway. It has so much more good to give.

Ooooof. I feel this. All of it. I'm originally from northern Westchester and I spent many exhausting commutes doing exactly this.

I would honestly say the best thing you can do for yourself is to join Equity if you are eligible. It's a better audition experience all around, you can sign up for appointments in advance on the member portal and view projects that accept self-tapes, AND it will get you in the room for better jobs.

If you aren't eligible yet or just don't feel ready to compete on that level yet, I'd recommend focusing more on local projects over the big NYC cattle calls. I don't know exactly where you live or what your regional/community theatre scene is like, but I do know that those theaters are the ones that are struggling the most right now and could use people who are passionate and want to build their resumes. It's a lot easier to get seen and get cast, you'll be able to keep your day job and not tunnel-vision your life around waiting on line for crappy nonunion tours that charge Broadway prices but pay minimum wage, AND you will likely meet a lot of people who will get to know you much better and more personally than a casting director ever could in a 2-minute window.

Keep in mind, also, that when you walk into a professional audition and a casting director looks at your resume, they don't care how much you were paid for a job or what kind of contract you were on. And they don't care how you got your Equity card. The only people who care about that stuff are bitter judgmental actors who need the gatekeeping to feel better about themselves (and no matter what your answer is, they won't like you anyway). The people who actually matter only care that you're on time, prepared, friendly, open to direction, and right for the role they need.

As for actually doing the professional NYC audition grind, here are some pro-tips:

-Opt for appointments and self-tapes over "open calls" whenever possible.

-CONTINUE being selective about the projects you go out for. Trust me, I did many years of the "throw all the spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks" method, and it doesn't work, and it will only burn you out more.

-Don't overthink your audition material. You don't need exact 16-bar cuts of ten different in your book for every style of musical theatre. You can do the "overdone" songs and monologues if they fit who you are and the roles you can conceivably play. It's New York. Everything is overdone. YOU are not overdone.

-Dress comfortably. Sounds obvious, but it took me way too long to realize that no, really, I do not have to wear heels to an audition. Be strategic with layers.

-Get a rolling suitcase over a backpack. Way less strain.

-Noise. Cancelling. Headphones. Also, make playlists of your "comfort" songs and your "motivation" songs and your "wind-down" songs and your "zone-out" songs so you have predictable, appropriate background noise to whatever you're doing--commuting, waiting in the holding room, eating lunch, etc. Preferably songs that are not from musicals and have nothing to do with whatever shows you're auditioning for. Auditioning is a job and you need a work-life balance there too.

-Do something else in the city unrelated to auditioning or performing. Go to a museum or a park or just a cute coffee shop where you can just EXIST and not perform.

Of course, I can write about Aquarius. They are wonderful people, quite articulate and intelligent, though most people don't see them that way. If you ever meet an Aquarius, you will realise they have a special energy about them. Not at first, no. They seem to be very much in their own comfort zone, their own thoughts, living in their own seperate worlds. As much as nobody wants to believe it, I believe Aquarius is the most independent sign in the whole zodiac.

You see, when I meet an Aquarius, they are very much to themselves. They don't open up easily, they just express a lot of their thoughts and emotions through their mood, their face, never aloud. Their head constantly echoes their thoughts and for them it feels like a tornado rebousting in their own mind. Air signs already have strong mental energy but when it comes to expressing it, Aquarius is the most quiet one. They use everything except their voice because they believe it's their own world. You live in their world, not them in you. They can be so outgoing and social if you are a close friend or family but never will they let you in their world of thoughts and troubles. You're like a butterfly that would be blown away if they let you in their tornado of thoughts. That's what they think. They mix up their independence with their loneliness. They believe they are the odd one out and in a way, they are. They are special and you can see that if you really get to know them. My best friend is an Aquarius and I didn't know for two years that she had a boyfriend. TWO YEARS! It's because she doesn't want to talk about her. She wants to talk about you. She needs peace, not to talk about her tornado of thoughts.

All Aquarius I have known have great anxiety because of their thought tornado, so when you go out with them and they want to talk about you, talk about you because they want to be distracted from their own world. Even if it is a moment, they want to get out of there.

Aquarius are lovable people. They can be dramatic and a bit dark, it's the most interesting part of them, however, they are so amusing, funny and adventurous. They have this fun side of them and it is so mentally stimulating because they just *are* the most interesting human being to be out there. They have quirks, lovable quirks yet there is always this side to them that makes a lot of people furious, which is their cold side. Sometimes, they get caught up in their own world and forget about the rest. It's not because they don't care but they just find their own world more important because like I said. They live in it and it's not the same world that you live in it. You wouldn't understand and you shouldn't try to understand because that makes them furious. Only they get to live in their own world. They can tell you about it, you can know about it but you don't get to understand it.

If you ever read Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, Frodo is wonderfully written and I would definitely give him the sign of Aquarius though he is a Virgo (22nd of September). But there is a lot of similarities between Virgo and Aquarius. They like to take care of their own business by themselves because nobody else could take care of it as much as they would.

I don't know how to explain it exactly. If you have an Aquarius friend, you probably know that they pretty much like to keep to themselves. They can disappear for days or they can be active for days before they disappear again. I like to give my Aquarius friends space because that's what they like but I can text them "Let's get coffee tomorrow!" and they'll be up for it, even if they don't feel like it.

They really are wonderful and they can be strong manipulators as well. They have a strong dark side, but I don't think you should take it personal. It's just who they are. They are very much their own person. And if you do an Aquarius wrong, don't expect to come back to open arms. They'll cut you off like nothing.

Hypnosis: Possibilities

What are Possibilities?

Possibilities are all things one can do or achieve.

Example 1

Horniness and arousal are not necessarily the same thing. While being horny is mostly a mental state, arousal is a state of your body. Knowing this I once attempted to separate those two as it's only natural that you are sometimes horny without being aroused or aroused without being horny.

A while ago I found myself suggesting this to a play partner, I asked them if they would want to try that and they responded: "I don't know if that works, but okay."

So, I guided them in trance and gave them a trigger that would only make their body aroused, craving touch and stimulation while their mind stayed completely clear of anything sexual.

The result was fascinating, and I was completely stunned and amazed of it.

Discussion

The answer to the question what you can and can't do with hypnosis is a difficult one. Except for the obvious answer that you can't break the laws of physics it's tricky to draw a clear line.

Another response often is "whatever a subject is able to imagine". While this has some truth to it it's not the full answer. While it is very much dependant on how well a subject can imagine or conjure whatever is described to them, it's also dependant on the hypnotist.

As a hypnotist you can make it easier for a subject conjure an image or response. You can assist by using language that resonates with the subject, you can help by speaking in the pace that it is easiest for your subject to follow, give you’re subject a heads-up on what you are planning on doing (especially when you don’t know each other very well).

As a subject you can train your ability to imagine things or to conjure feelings inside of you. In this regard the brain is a muscle and while it can be difficult to learn things, with enough perseverance you can improve the ability to imagine things. Things that might help there could be drawing, acting or any other activity that engages your imagination and creativity.

Let's be a bit more specific about what things could be possible with hypnosis. As there are an unimaginable number of things that one could do with hypnosis. Trying to write down every little and big thing you can do with hypnosis is an endless task, instead look at specific parts of hypnosis play and give some ideas what playing could be, and hopefully help you get some ideas of your own.

Sensory Play

Sensory play can be anything from making your subject feeling a soft caress or touch, to feeling them being hit, flogged, whipped, to having them feel the pain of being cut or even feel their arm being ripped off.

Sensory play can be combined and part of a scene with sensual play without any actual equipment, an intense impact scene, to an enhanced roleplay interrogation scene or primal play.

Pleasure Play

Pleasure play can be anything that involves any kind of pleasure weather it is sexual, mental or otherwise. When playing with it you can increase or decrease the pleasure that is felt, you could make an object transfer or create or take pleasure away.

When playing with pleasure you can do anything from creating it, taking it away, to heightening and reducing it.

Mental Alterations / Mental Play

There are countless ways in which you can change how someone acts, reacts, or perceives anything.

Some examples are making someone more sensitive to any or a certain kind of touch, making someone feel dumber, more giggly, dizzy, drunk, ....

But it could also mean making someone unable to count, think it’s normal to strip in front of people when you meet them, not know how to put on clothes, ...

Example 2

A few weeks ago, I went to a play party with my partner. I had some amazing plans and a very intense scene in mind I wanted to do. In preparation I gave them the suggestion that every time they would look into my eyes, they would find themselves captivated while an urge and want for something they don't know would grow inside them.

It was very interesting and fun to see how confused and bewildered they were when they woke up or have been woken up from that daze after having themselves lost in my eye’s mid conversation.

Personality Play

Personality play deals with more intense ways of mental alteration for the benefit of the play.

This includes things like having them act and feel slightly different than usual to having them portray someone or something different during play.

Forms of personality play could be making someone a sex doll, a drone, a perfect french maid, a servant or could also be used to make pet play even more immersive, ....

Hypnotic Bondage

Someone being unable to move after the mention of a simple word can be a very fun thing to play with. This can range from them not being able to walk away, to not move certain body parts or being completely petrified an immobilized.

These are just some examples of things you can do with hypnosis. There are also some things you just can't do because they are either not legal or not possible, this is when you might find the concept of dream journeys interesting, just make sure, that you ensure that there’s a way for the subject to signal that they need to get out of trance. Dream journeys can be very immersive and intense, so it's never wrong to give some safety suggestions and to check-in from time to time.

I encourage you to talk with your trance partner(s) about what you would find interesting to try and if they have a fantasy that they have not yet been able to live out. You might also find this hypnosis kink list helpful.

( does your muse develop crushes easily ; would they be open about it to a friend or keep it to themselves* ? ) I would say it’s pretty easy for him to develop minor crushes, yeah. to fall in love or develop serious feelings is NOT quick or easy for him . . . but a small crush? sure! and this kind of fits with the next question, but, the reason for that is: he finds people in general to be interesting ( psychologically ) so it’s not at all unusual for him to become interested & curious about an individual. he often spends time getting to know people, asking them a lot of questions about their lives and their opinions on stuff . . . so idk, his personality being kind of curious and nosy that way increases the chance of him forming some kind of bond with them i guess asajjj. so, yes: if he's single, it may not take much more than a pretty face and some stimulating conversation for him to develop a small crush jajssj / but that doesn’t mean he’s a shallow person or incapable of forming much deeper bonds ! that is just one facet of his personality, and it reflects his curiosity towards other humans and their lives, rather than a flightiness or inconsistency of love. a crush =/= love; i think of a crush as like, physical attraction + a dash of romantic attraction. but it's really rare for him to develop romantic feelings beyond a crush. but when he does, he feels a deep and rich love that is loyal and intimate ! / ( * && this part depends entirely on the context of the person he has a crush on; it’s really circumstantial. he can keep a secret it he has to… but if he doesn’t have to keep it a secret, he’ll probably gush to a close friend about them . . . and/or, ya know, just tell the crush, LOL. he's not usually very shy about it. but it really depends on the context & the person, so I don't have much of an answer for this part!! ) 32. ( does your muse have an ideal "type" ? ) not rly! as previously mentioned, he’s very curious about a lot of different people. he's had crushes on people with wildly different personality traits and there's not really a certain 'look' he is drawn to. the only physical trait that 'matters' is just... pretty. asjjajj. he doesn’t have much of a physical type! as for personality-wise . . . 1. people who he can have an interesting conversation with ... he loses interest in anyone who makes him feel bored, doesn't provide mental stimulation, or excitement, and/or entertainment, and who doesn't have some unique, humorous, or thought-provoking things to say 2. he isn’t attracted to people who are very conventional; it’s just not his style sjsjsj he likes people who are at least a little out of the ordinary, somehow, although in what way can vary from person to person. that's about all i can think of in regards to a 'type', though !!

[ HEADCANON : HANNIBAL LECTER : KINK VS SEXUAL GRATIFICATION ]

Before we talk a little more about this, it’s important to note that kink itself, to me anyways, encompasses many spectrums. Whether that be what you’re ‘into’ so to speak or what, say, titles / roles someone earns ( or fancies ) - the kink community in and of itself is massive and far more than ‘50 Shades’, so there’s of course variety in who ( and why ) folks are participating.

I am by no means an educator or historian ( that’s my partner, hah ) but I do enjoy some degree of realism in how I go about my headcanons. And, you know, if I’m able to debunk some of the ( admittedly ) toxic mindsets Tumblr writers have about kink, well, here we go ---

A basic, core concept: kink is not inherently sexual. Follow up concept: you do not need to experience sexual stimulation or any sort of sexual gratification to take part in kink.

For Hannibal Lecter, there is cross-over, though since I headcanon Dr. Lecter as very reliant on finding someone intelligent enough / interesting enough to engage at a deeper level with - well? At first, Hannibal playing with someone likely has no sexual intent at all. Having experienced such a severe level of abuse and neglect whilst being abducted - I doubt it would surprise many that I fully believe Hannibal is some variation of ace. I lean toward aceflux myself, personally.

That being said, there are many ways in which one can take part in play without making things sexual, so here is a small ( but not conclusive list ) of scenarios which Hannibal has likely been a part of in his decades as a leatherman.

1) Tying folks up - a lot of people just enjoy the look / feel of it & it makes them feel more confident.  Others enjoy the mental release of being suspended while tied / in sub space. 

2) Cigar play - Can be very therapeutic in the sense that it’s a task with a very specific order in which things need to be done. Folks that enjoy routines often really enjoy play involving smoking. The task is learnable, repeatable, and many nd kinksters use smoking as a stim. There’s a lot of emotional intimacy in this form of play!

3) Whipping / Flogging - While there’s lost of folks that get sexual gratification of pain, there’s a decent handful of folks that purely enjoy it because of pain itself, enjoy the emotional release during / after a session, or flat out enjoy pretty marks on themselves. 

Again, these are just bare bones scenarios, but Hannibal is rarely horny when he’s actively domming someone. There are also, in fact, folks in the community that are entirely sex repulsed. Make room for inclusivity in your kinky hcs too! I guarantee you it’s more fun!
