A Buncha Boneheads (Final)
Originally posted on My Patreon (Follow the link to see the full image)
Well, after drawing 88 different skeletal characters, here it is, the full series of "A Buncha Boneheads"! I was originally going to try and sell this as a poster but after looking into it, I don't think I can do that unless I want to deal with several dozen copyright laws.
This was quite the fun little exercise for me- the biggest challenge was trying to emulate the art styles of so many different series and properties. There are definitely more skull-headed characters out there that I could add, but frankly I think a nice even 88 is good enough, and there are other projects I want to work on for the future. Overall I'm pretty proud of this.
With that said, let me know if I've made a spelling mistake or something anywhere on here- I've tried my best but I just know I missed one or two somewhere.

8 shows to get to know you
i was tagged by @arrysa-clair so... thank u huney /p ^w^
Katekyo Hitman Reborn: 🎵HELLO MY LUVELY HELLO MY HUNEY, HELLO MY RAGTIME GALLLL!!🎵 This wasn't the first fandom I wrote fanfic for, but I just,,,, YES!! 100%!! YES!! Because this shounen I Binged because of 1 CardFight! Vanguard/KHR crossover and THEN I WAS INVESTED, and now I am The Biggest Simp... It was also the fandom where I had to admit that I'm a filthy filthy multishipper so... OOPS, GUESS I CAN NEVER UNDO THAT!!!
Bagpuss: 🎵Bagpuss, oh Bagpuss, soggy-old-cat puss, wake up and see this thing that I bring, wake up, be bright! Be golden and light! Bagpuss, oh hear what I sing.🎵 THIS SHOW!!! THIS SHOW IS MY LOVE, MY BLOOD, AND NOW ONE OF THE LEAST-KNOWN SHOWS, EVEN THOUGH IT'S BLIMMIN GREAT (apart from one episode that suddenly comes to mind because HHHH IT WAS MADE IN THE SIXTIES AND THE OBJECT WAS A PAIR OF BOWING MEN) But think, like, Toys coming to life to check out this neat little thing their owner's brought, using songs, stories and poems to tell what the thing *really* is, working together to fix or clean the object, then moving it into the window "So anyone who had lost [the object] Would see it, and know it was found" AND THAT ENTIRE SHOW!! I LIVE FOR!!! If I need to sew, or if I'm sick, or even if I just don't want to watch much and snk into a pile of plushies, I can pop this show on, and listen to a soggy old pink and white cat, a raggedy old bookend, a toad with a banjo, a music box of mice and a well-loved doll explain why a small cushion is really the seat of the boney king of nowhere's throne. I Am Soft.
Thunderbirds/Thunderbirds Are Go: THIS SHOW, THIS SHOW I WROTE FANFICTION FOR BEFORE I EVEN KNEW WHAT FANFIC WAS!! I still even have the cute li'l notebook it was written in, now sans cover, IT IS UPSTAIRS IN A BOX AND I WAS SO YOUNG my handwriting was a full 2cm/0.8inch TALL, SO EACH PAGE WAS BASICALLY 5-7 LINES OF WIGGLY TEXT, because of course the paper doesn't have lines, and MY WRITING WAS SO CUTE AND SIMPLISTIC I WANT TO SQUEEZE YOUNGER-ME'S CHEEKS!! And then younger me made it have a crossover with Lazytown, because I was a sucker... AND NOW WE HAVE T.B.A.G, AND CHCGHCG I WAS ECSTATIC, my dad and brother less so, BUT I LOVE IT, and now I am back on my thunderbirds bs. /lol
Tantei Gakuen Q/Detective Class Q: I adore both the anime and the live action for this one. They may have slightly different stories, but they're still both quite powerful, and very fun, but also able to talk about some topics in ways that make me tilt my head a little, like the idea of an area cut off from the outside world, finding peace within the smaller things, or, from the live action, how far one person can go in search of freedom, and how that can then be framed by others during the uncovery of that story. Also! The cases!!! They can seem so complex, yet, then the answer will turn out so simple, and I absolutely adore that! ^w^
Gravity Falls: IDK what it is, but the idea of some kids just having fun, finding something, then having fun solving the issue, or going hrough an experience, and then supporting each other on the other side, getting the support of their chaotic family.... HHHHHHHH /pos. I am Very Soft. Also, fxghxfcghcfgh, Bill and Dipper's Entire Dynamic brings me life. Jesu Maria.... AND THEN I REMEMBER THEY'RE 12!! THEY CAN'T EVEN OWN A BANK ACCOUNT YET, SOMEONE GET THESE KIDS THERAPY OH MY GOODNESS!! bUT!!! SOOS!! YEEEEEE!! idk ok NEXT ONE!
School Babysitters: I may not be able to handle children irl, but the stories between the kids, the way the students handle caring for the kids, THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE CENTRAL DUO!!! HAS MADE ME CRY!! SO MANY TIMES!!! ARARARARARARARARA!!! I LOVE THEM!!! HHHHH!!
SCOOBY DOO! WHERE ARE YOU?/SCOOBY DOO, MYSTERY INCORPERATED!: My first crush was Daphne. I didn't realise it was a crush, I was just like "yeah, the others are pretty cool... But Daphneee..." And Nowadays I go "oh dearheart, Oh Sweetie" BECAUSE, HAHA, SHE IS STILL A FICTIONAL CRUSH, THIS WOMAN IS A COMPETENT QUEEN, tho some shows they make her a little mean, AND THAT'S WHY SB:WAY AND SB:MI ARE MY FAVOURITES, because Daphne is Adorable-- OMG I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THE baby version of scoobydoo, oh my goodness that was adorable, though THE FACT THEY DECIDED THAT THE YOUNG VERSIONS WERE JUST WHO THE CHARACTERS ARE FROM BIRTH WHEN CGJHCHJCGJCGHJ YOU CAN'T TELL ME VELMA WASN'T THE CHEEKIEST BABY! YUHUXFH\OEW7SZDUFIYFWZPS9OUFZHRXDC8ZOSEYRHFNRICKUJFZBXED!!!!!
And last, but ne'er least: CUTE HIGH EARTH DEFENSE CLUB LOVE/BINAN KOUKOU CHIKYUU BOUEI-BU LOVE! That Show!!!!! THIS SHOW!!!! AAAA!!! Think, like, Genderbent Magigirl anime, but, again, Genderbent, and it's so cute, and funny, and yet it SOMEHOW, SOMEHOW, DESPITE BEING THE LIGHTEST THING SINCE FREE!, I AM a total mess mum plz come and pick me up i will cry from CUTENESS ISTG!!!
Gods, picking out stuff was so hard, but so fun, because I had to say "No" to Dream SMP, I had to turn down shows like the Katrielle Layton Anme because I ONLY GOT TO WATCH THAT ONCE, AND I AM SO SALTY 'CAUSE THAT WAS SO CUTE!! But then, hhhhh!!! /vpos /lovinglyfrustrated. Other shows skipped are Ouran High School Host Club, Free!, How to Keep a Mummy, Merlin, Dr Who, M.I.High, Good Omens (Good God do I love Good Omens), Love Stage!! aaand Marginal Prince.
Anyway!! Tagging!! I have no clue!! UUUUUUUUUHHHHH

"What if it was all for naught?" lazy question asked, out of nowhere as though it were mere passing thought, rather than a lingering shadow haunting, "What if one day, I wake up and find myself King, and you the great and valiant would-have-been hero, if we didn't know how that story went," how he longed for a cigar, if only for effect. An amusing though, though he found little joy in it. But the campfire was bright, the night tepid. As though holding it's breath in wait, "Or rather, what if nothing changes? They or Charlie-" a thousand lifetimes he had experienced, and still his voice hitches at her name. Still, he carries on as if otherwise, "-grow tired of us, and nothing changes, an eternal cycle, until you have all gone mad." there was a pause, and when Maxwell continued, it was with a snort of a laugh far more bitter than he'd intended, "But then, what if the bloody fools do find means to escape? We wouldn't last a day in that world." We, he said, meaning the survivors, of course. was hardly in the mood to point out the flaws within the script.
"… Why ask?"
It was a mellow, unbothered question- sandwiched between a couple of mouthfuls of dried meat, its origins long since unidentifiable.
… He was getting more fond of this, recently. Musing with the curtains drawn. Was she meant to take it as a good thing? Neutral? Not like it was hurting anyone…
Could have been hurting him, she supposed. But with no way of knowing for certain, she really shouldn't have been basing her decisions on his pain, or lack thereof.
"… Dö yöu nöt fear yöu'll speak such thöughts intö existance…? That they cöuld cling tö what paranörmality lingers in the air, and fester until they supplant the nöw? Ör dö yöu believe such thöughts wöuld cast a blind eye tö yöu, shöuld yöu indulge them first? Giving them the attentiön they're wröngfully due?"
She hummed then- a low and passive sound, and one that had nothing to do with the evening snack she'd been savoring ('savoring', in this instance, meaning using not to starve).
"The möst curiöus thing aböut this place- öne I'm certain thöu cöuld tell my thyself… Ultimately, its changes matter nöt. Certainly, it will take adjusting… But we've nö chöice but tö adjust. There is nö true defeat in a place like this öne. Nö lying döwn and taking what cömes tö thee. Yöu fight back- tear and claw at what strikes at thee- ör the wörld itself göes stagnant… A viciöus, miniscule lööp that never ends, crafted- ultimately- by yöur hand."
"In söme regard, that makes us akin tö prisöners… And yet, there's relief tö be föund in it, as well. We must gö ön- and we will, as we have in all the years since göne. We have nö chöice but prögress… And shöuld the wörld alter… ör, I suppöse, shöuld it stagnante… we'll all push önwards despite, as we have been. And shöuld the öthers find söme lööphöle tö abuse… Söme döörway öf söme sört öut öf this place, then… mmph."
She trailed off a bit, then, letting the concept mingle about with the other thoughts in her mind… It hadn't been the first time she considered it (she doubted it could have been anyone's, at this point in their lifetimes), but it didn't make it any easier to disect.
"Well, I suppöse that is a bridge we must cröss önce it becömes a pössibility, yes? As it stands, it seems little möre than a figment öf thöught; inviting tö söme, dissuasive tö öthers…"
"… Thöugh… I will say…" She chose her next words carefully, sparing the man a glance at last, fingernails shredding the poor scraps of meat into unappetizing morsels.
"If I drifted öff in my tent tönight, and awöke tö my back against grasslands, with thy mile-löng shadöw blötting öut the sun again… Well, it'd be a shame, I think. Yöu played the röle well, but I believe tö prefer thee like this."
To extenuate her point, she jabbed a boney finger at him (scabbed and calloused and still a little stained with blood, even now), gesturing from the tips of his shoes to the top of his head.
"All flesh and blööd and tangible egö, yes? T'wöuld be a shame tö löse it all tö thy överplayed facsimile again."

The music video for There There by Radiohead is a masterpiece and here is why
Tumblr media
So, as many of you might know already, There There and Nude are my two favourite songs by my favourite band, Radiohead. They are two very unique songs that move me in different but equally intense ways. But what makes There There extra special to me is the video, which managed to combine basically all the things that I love: spooky forests, little animals in clothes, hollow trees with winding roots, references to fairy tales and literature and a dream-like, voyeuristic atmosphere. I am first going to analyse the song itself, then how combined with the video, it is one of my favourite pieces of media I have ever seen.
Lyrics here. As the song starts off, it already feels like the listener is dropped inside a weird, intense primal world. I love percussion-heavy music and when I first heard it, the use of tom-toms and alienating, hardly recognisable sounds already reminded me of one of my other favourite artist’s best-know song: Björk’s Human Behaviour. I can’t really explain it if you don’t hear it, but both have this hypnotic, primal quality that beckons you in right off the bat. Then Thom’s mournful voice sings: “In pitch dark/ I go walking in your landscape/ Broken branches/ Trip me as I speak”. Not to go all A-Level English on his ass because let’s be honest, Thom’s lyrics are often nonsensical and vague, but I love this verse so much. It goes perfectly with the instrumental, starting off in a way that is like the start of a story; the words painting you a picture that is both dreamlike and frightening. To me, it describes falling in love in a way: “I am walking in your world, and I don’t know the way, and it’s all new and confusing and dark and sometimes I say the wrong things but I am still exploring, and it’s beautiful”
After this start that frankly hits you in the chest like a basketball in year 9 PE, we are treated to a combo attack with the lines “Just 'cause you feel it/ Doesn't mean it's there”. In classic Radiohead fashion, all the perceived optimism from the first verse is denied from us, basically saying “just because you feel a connection, it doesn’t mean it’s real”. Trust issues central. But it can also be interpreted to mean emotions in general, which is usually how I (a very emotional person) interpret it: feelings technically aren’t real. And the way you perceive the world while you are Going Through It™ is not always correct. No, everyone doesn’t hate you because their world isn’t centred around you: stop obsessing. It’s okay. There, there. (This is also reinforced later on with “someone on your shoulder”, basically saying it’s just your brain playing tricks.) Additionally, some think it’s referring to a dream, which would fit thematically with the music video.
The next verse to me is about the temptation of a bad decision while Going Through It™. Yes, it would be very easy to do the wrong thing, to go off this path that is making it really hard to get up in the morning: but it would also ruin you. I also interpret “don’t reach out” as coming from the siren (i.e. surprise, surprise: depression) – it wants you to self-destruct, to be a “walking disaster” but that, however tempting, is the wrong thing to do. The use of “we” also works with the “someone on your shoulder” line, and to me (however cringy that sounds) it means that music will always be there for me and help me work things out. It can also be applied to the relationship angle: the couple are in the same boat (/ship), and if one of them does something self-destructive, it will affect both. Both of these options work with the “Why so green and lonely? (…) Heaven sent you to me” lines. It’s interesting because the religious interpretation on Genius always annoyed me – Radiohead are the least religious band ever! This is the only religious reference I can think of from the top of my head, minus “angel” in Creep – but because it’s so rare, maybe it has a reason to be here? Maybe it IS about God after all, but I don’t really think so. Also, to me the imagery of “green and lonely” and the nautical “siren” and “shipwreck” have a much bigger weight visually than “heaven”, so they negate the religiousness in my eyes. I think it’s about two broken people finding each other, but also finding it hard to figure out how to fit together. They’re thinking that it might be a lost cause and destruction is right around the corner, but the best they can do (is good enough) is try and be there for each other while they head towards their ultimate end. Very comforting in a twisted way, which is Radiohead’s specialty.
So, let’s talk about the VIDEO!!! I’m writing this after an HQ version was FINALLY released on their website, so I’m going to use screenshots of that because oh my god, it’s beautiful.
Tumblr media
We start off with the “pitch-dark landscape”, more-or-less just as I imagined it while listening to the song. Although it is kind of drab and boring at the start, this only emphasises the magical quality of what it becomes later, as our protagonist Thom (I’m going to call him by name but I’m obviously referring to the character, not the real person) heads deeper and deeper inside. Oh, how I love forests in the dark. Nothing else has the same perfect ambiance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thom is walking in a way that matches the rhythm and the dreamlike atmosphere of the song, i.e. somewhere between an alien who just learned the way the Earthlings walk and the exaggerated, slightly sped-up movements of a silent movie star. We already know he has an affinity towards both bowler hats (Lotus Flower video) and pantomime-like acting (ANIMA) so this is truly on brand. He then sees dark clouds pass at a breakneck pace (again, the dreaminess of it all... chef’s kiss), then confused and lost, heads back into the forest which this time looks a lot less boring and “real” then at the start. The dark clouds can be interpreted as a warning of things to come (“stay out, not safe”), which he ignores or just a sign that something is off and we’re not in Kansas anymore.
Tumblr media
So as he turns back, we’re treated to my first Favourite Moment: Thom finding the beckoning yellow light and deciding to follow it. The way he is acting suggests both curiosity and sneakiness, like he suspects the thing emitting the light is much better than his original destination (if he had a destination at all).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the way the light is illuminating his eyes here, it again reminds me very much of old movies (and Morticia Addams in the 90s movies, but probably because the filmmakers also took inspiration from the same well)
Tumblr media
Oh my god, just look at this shot. Beautiful. Lothlórien who?? I only know magical glowy Radiohead forest. Because yes, we’ve obviously crossed the path between realms the minute Thom decided to pursue the yellow light (which can also be connected to the “siren singing you to shipwreck” in the lyrics). This is now the land of magic and fairy tales, and strange things are afoot.
Tumblr media
Again, I gotta stop analysing for a moment and just note that the amount of serotonin this gives me would fuel 10 people for a year. For anyone who doesn’t know me well enough, animals in little clothes living in little well-arranged dwellings inside a tree are in the top 5 things that make me happy, and combined with Thom Yorke Radiohead peeking in the window like an innocuous tourist… and the warm light illuminating the miniatures… perfection. Okay, moving on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thom is exploring this strange world of anthropomorphic animals like an awkward giant, without seemingly anyone noticing him. This adds to the alienation seeping from the music: this is a weird and wonderful place but you don’t belong here (sorry for the Creep reference, swear it was not intentional). He first saw a pair of squirrels, chilling in their house; then a big banquet; then a cat wedding (power of 3, the fairy-tale number). If we are going with the dream metaphor here, these might be alluding to things happening in real life, especially the wedding as he actively walks away from it, but this is just a speculation. Mostly it just shows that these animals are living in a happy little community and we love that for them! But it also make me feel like this is a coping mechanism for our protagonist here. Apparently Thom (the real one) got the idea for this video from a children’s TV show called Bagpuss: I had a look and it’s the tear-jerkingly comforting and nostalgic stop-motion series that everyone needs one of in their lives (I have several, both English and Hungarian). The subtitle “The Boney King of Nowhere” refers to a song in episode 2 about a king who wasn’t comfortable on his throne: according to this link, this resonated with Thom, who found himself on a pedestal he never wanted. (It’s kind of funny that a little kid’s song about a king’s bony ass has such a sick name though). He also wanted the original creator of the show (Oliver Postgate) to animate the video but he declined. Anyway, the "fifties East European genre animation, overlaboured and naïve” aesthetic, to me, symbolises comfort and warmth that our protagonist doesn’t feel at home in.
Tumblr media
So off he goes, into the dark heart of the forest. Also, important to note the patch of fog that keeps showing him the way: is this the siren’s song physically manifested, pulling him away from the warmth of community? (”don’t reach out, don’t reach out”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He then climbs up and sees a golden coat on a tree inside some kind of ancient ruin. This to me immediately brought to mind the Golden Fleece from Ancient Greek myth, which was the fleece of a magical ram that hung on an oak tree. It signified kingship, linking back to the subtitle. Thom sneaks to the tree, looks up at the ravens (7 of them: another fairy-tale number) and when he sees they are sleeping, tries on the coat. I found it interesting how at this point the coat looks quite ordinary, drab and brown – possibly a metaphor for a decision that you know is bad but you do it anyway; and by the time you realise it actually didn’t feel as good as you thought, it is too late - he listened to temptation (the sirens). He even takes the boots from inside the tree, which reminded me of SO many of the folktales that I grew up on: it’s not enough that the bad sibling did this one bad thing, they even did ANOTHER bad thing, which cements the listener in believing them to be irredeemable and worthy of the awful fate the tale has in store for them. The ravens (birds of death and in this case agents of justice) wake up – Thom has a little “oh shit” close-up and then start running for his life in his new attire.
Addition: another theory I found interesting among the comments is that this place is Limbo -  “
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gothic look of the ravens chasing Thom with the rising full moon is such a huge contrast to the warm, comforting glow of the stop-motion animal town, but it makes sense with the crescendo of the music and it’s dark and menacing cacophony: “we are accidents waiting to happen”. This was Thom’s mistake: and now there is no turning back. (Quick note: his running here reminds me once again of the Human Behaviour video – I am working on another similar essay that concentrates on how Radiohead and Björk are mirrors of each other so look out for that).
Tumblr media
He thinks he is saved for a moment by the magical seven-league boots (another folktale reference) but it is only a false hope. He gets his punishment and turns into a tree by what we can assume to be a painful and terrifying process (I love his facial expression so much). The ravens arrive and we realise that this is most likely how the previous tree met his or her fate. The cycle continues. He is now the Boney King of Nowhere.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of my favourite mental images is people taken over by nature: not in a decomposing way but more like a Hanahaki disease way. Thom turning into a tree reminded me of a couple of things: one, my other favourite piece of entertainment Over the Garden Wall, which is very similar in tone to this video (if I ever meet Thom, I genuinely only want to ask him if he’s ever seen it and if yes what his thoughts are on it). SPOILERS for OTGW: the Beast turns lost children into trees and uses oil from the trees to keep his lantern alive, which is basically his life source – in this case the tree-person seems to be the living beating heart of the forest. The way the tree-curse is transmitted also reminded me of how the lantern was (nearly) passed down to Wirt. Basically, it is an inheritable burden. Two, and this isn’t my interpretation but I thought I’d mention it: Daphne & Apollo, wherein Daphne hides from Apollo’s sexual advances by turning into a tree. This doesn’t really fit the tone of the scene in my opinion, because Thom’s transformation is an involuntary punishment; but it kind of connects to the other reference to Greek myth, Odysseus and the sirens (both chasing after women, or the impossible dream). Three: Dante’s Inferno, in which the second ring of the seventh circle is the Wood of Suicides where “the souls of the people who attempted or committed suicide are transformed into gnarled, thorny trees and then fed upon by Harpies, hideous clawed birds with the faces of women; the trees are only permitted to speak when broken and bleeding”. Whomp whomp, it was a suicide metaphor :/ And it wasn’t a dream, it was Limbo - a thematic preoccupation of the band, so not impossible.
A comment I found relating to this: “After death you have to cross over. He got distracted by the nice and shiny shoes and jacket (don't reach out), hence the siren that leads you to shipwreck (Odysseus). When you want to enter the spiritual realm you have to be able to leave the material world behind or you shall not pass. He was distracted, got caught and changed into a worldly tree (he was still to attached to the material realm). The so-called reality we live now is the dream. (Just 'cause you feel it doesn't mean it's there). He remembered that he died and came back to this illusion. We are stuck in a lift....” I really like this interpretation of Thom’s downfall being too attached to materialism/ fame & fortune. I wonder what he meant by “came back to this illusion”? Also, who are the animals in this scenario: aspects of Thom’s life or other people, stuck in Limbo/ every-day oblivion?
This wouldn’t be the first or last time Radiohead explores the concept of death, so I don’t think it’s far-fetched. And it fits with the lyrics too, as I’ve discussed briefly above: this is what happens when you listen to the siren (the fog, the light) and stray away from the cute animal town, Thomas! I’m joking because it is kind of a bummer to end it on this, but I just love how dense and layered this video is. Most of their videos are top-notch but this one just hits a really sweet spot for me, so yeah! 2500 words! I’m glad you came along, pardner! Goodbye till next time!

Delirium
@smallpwbbles happy birthday, take some delirious Wukong-

MK paused in a mixture of shock, horror, and awe as he took in the sight before him.
Pigsy had his head in his hands, looking for all the world like he was totally done with the situation. Tang was standing beside him, trying to hide his increasingly obvious laughter. Mei had no such qualms, and was laughing out loud, practically on the verge of literally rolling around on the floor. Red Son stood next to her, holding up Mei's phone, which seemed to be recording, the fire demon trying desperately to look neutral to the situation, but a small smirk on the edge of his lips betrayed him, revealing his amusement. Sandy stood slightly off to the side, holding a blanket, ready to step in at any time.
And Macaque stood ramrod straight, appearing to be somewhere between 'embarrassed' and 'would somebody please strike me down already'- as Wukong leaned against him, saying a series of sloppily put together compliments.
MK took a deep breath, speed-running all five stages of grief in under an instant. (Possibly a new record for him.)
"I left. For five minutes." He said, taking note of how some places on the deck seemed to be dented, and was that smoke coming from over there? "How, exactly, did things end up like this?"
He received no answer, the others having jumped and turned to stare at him when he had spoken, having not noticed his return.
...Wait, where did Wukong-
"MK." Wukong said, and MK did his best not to jump as the delirious Monkey King appeared beside him out of nowhere and put a hand on MK's shoulder. "My, my dear su- ......succulent.....?"
"Successor." MK corrected, trying to ignore how the others were barely restraining their laughter. (Macaque, at least, looked somewhat sympathetic, but he also looked far more grateful for the fact that Wukong's attention had shifted away from him.)
"That's, yes. That's the word, yes." Wukong said, before grabbing hold of MK's cheeks, squishing them a little as he made sure MK was looking at him. "I am so proud of you."
"...Thanks?" MK said, questionably, pulling himself out of Wukong's grip. Wukong briefly glanced at his hands, seemingly confused as to where his successor had gone. "Monkey King- I'm right here. You should really be resting, until whatever this is gets out of your system-"
"Red Son!" Wukong exclaimed, the aforementioned fire demon making an audible noise of terror, slipping to hide behind Mei as Wukong spun around to face him-
Only to trip over his own two feet, slamming into the deck, denting it ever so slightly.
...For about the twenty-third time that day.
Sandy took this as his time to move forwards, gently laying the blanket down on top of Wukong, before announcing that he was going to try and make some more healing tea, (Wukong had dumped the first pot of it over the side of the ship, claiming that it was 'too bitter', 'wouldn't work anyways', and complaining that it didn't 'taste like peaches'), and the river demon left, going back down inside of the airship, leaving the others without his calming presence.
"...Okay guys, while Monkey King is....asleep..." MK wasn't even actually sure if Wukong was asleep, but he'd stopped moving and had become utterly silent since slamming into the deck, so- "I suggest we make it so that he doesn't hurt himself or us with anything on the ship."
"What, are you suggesting we should baby-proof the entire ship?" Pigsy asked.
"...More like 'Monkey King-proof', but yes, actually, that is exactly what I am suggesting." MK said, "We're going to need to cover all of our bases-"
"Uh, kid?" Macaque interrupted, grabbing MK's attention by lightly tapping on his shoulder. "If you're going to Monkey King-proof the ship, you uh, might want to start with the railing."
He pointed to the edge of the ship, and MK followed his gaze to see-
"Oh you've got to be fucking kidding me." MK said, just catching the barest, tiniest glimpse of Wukong, wearing the blanket around his shoulders like a cape, leaping over the side of the ship. "That's the fifth time he's done that today."
-
It wasn't all that hard to find him again. All they had to do was follow the destruction a delirious, overpowered monkey leaves behind.
Or at least, that was MK, Mei, and Macaque's strategy, up until they stumbled upon a perfectly normal, entirely untouched clearing.
"...What do we do now?" Mei asked, and Macaque made to give an answer-
Only to have to jump back, barely avoiding being impaled as Wukong suddenly appeared out of the surrounding woods, carrying a rather large tree. He had twigs, leaves, and dirt all throughout his fur. The blanket was seemingly missing, but neither MK, Mei, nor Macaque really wanted to find out where it had gone. The group of three took a cautious step back as Wukong locked eyes with them.
"Wanna see how up I can lift this tree?" He said, already lifting said tree above his head. (Everyone ignored how he'd seemingly forgotten the word 'high'.) MK and Mei shared a look as Mei slowly pulled out her phone, opening up the camera.
"I mean, we really shouldn't, but..." MK said, and Wukong beamed, shifting to hold the tree with one hand, taking the chance to show off. MK and Mei 'ooh'ed and 'awe'd appropriately, but Macaque rolled his eyes and looked away.
Which cause him to miss seeing the exact moment when Wukong's strength faltered, the tree falling upon the Monkey King's back, pinning him to the ground.
Macaque certainly didn't miss Wukong's screech of terror though.
MK and Mei had froze in shock, but Macaque reacted instantly, running over to the pinned monkey. The panicked mutters of "Not again, not again, please not again-" left little doubt as to what was currently going through Wukong's mind.
Macaque practically sent the tree flying in his rush to get it off of the other, and, not knowing was else to do when that didn't immediately quell Wukong's panic, flipped him over, desperately hoping that seeing the wide open sky, with no mountain in sight, would calm the Monkey King down.
And, well, it must've done something, as Wukong quieted, blankly staring up at the sky, without blinking.
"...Are you....okay?" Macaque asked, fearing that he had made things worse as he kneeled down beside him.
"...Have I... ever told you that you have beautiful eyes?" Wukong muttered, and Macaque paused.
"Ah- no. No." Macaque said, standing up. "No, we are not doing this again- MK, come get your stupid mentor, we're going back to the ship."
-
"MK- hey- hey kid-"
"What is it now, Monkey King?" MK sighed, tired. It had been unanimous that Wukong could no longer go even seconds without being supervised, and now had to be watched at all times. MK, unfortunately, had gotten the short end of the stick and had been chosen for the first watch, (They had drawn straws, and he had not missed the sighs of relief from the others, nor had he missed how Macaque had magically changed the length of the straws. He swore he'd get that shadow monkey back somehow), which of course meant that he was the first to have to put up with the delirious Wukong's complete and utter bullshit.
"Um- Would, do you think Macaque's fur tastes bitter like his rationality?" Wukong asked, from where he was laying on his back, on the couch, yet another of Sandy's blankets set on top of him. (They'd tried to cocoon him, but after enough protesting they'd given up on it for now).
"Wh-" MK started, confused, turning the sentence over in his head to make sense of it before responding. "...First of all, no, I think it would just taste like hair, second of all, did you mean to say personality?"
"....Yes...." Wukong said, slowly, before a wicked smirk came over his face, and MK felt fear settle into his bones. "Do you wanna see me make a hair buddy-"
"No!" MK yelled, and he may have lost all his powers, including his enhanced speed, but you wouldn't have known it from the way he practically flew to stop Wukong from blowing on his hair. "You are not going to be making any clones any time soon, okay? Monkey King I need you to look at me and confirm that you will not make any hair clones while you're delirious."
"...I will not make hair buddies while I'm serious." Wukong said, and MK sighed.
"Good enough, I guess." He said, sitting back down in his chair, slumping, momentarily closing his eyes in exasperation.
When he opened them again, Wukong was gone.
"Fuck-" MK said, jumping up and spinning around-
Only to see Wukong on the other side of the room, curled up on top of the other couch. He'd somehow gotten more blankets than before too, MK was certain there had only been two in the room before, but now there appeared to be at least seven.
MK didn't want to question where and how Wukong had gotten them.
What he would like to know though, was-
"...Why did you move to the other couch?" MK dared to ask, prompting Wukong to stick his head out of the pile of blankets he had buried himself in.
"Cause this one's more soft! The other one's too....too..." He seemed to blank on the word 'stiff', and instead said; "Boney. Boney couch. Bouch."
MK took a deep breath, trying to keep himself from breaking down then and there. It was, of course, at this moment, that he noticed Red Son try to sneak pass the open the door and down the hallway.
MK didn't let him.
"Red Son!" He said, rushing over (never taking his eyes off of Wukong), and looping his arm around the demon's. Red Son squeaked, but MK ignored it as he dragged him over to stand in front of Wukong. "Perfect timing, I think it was about time for me to have a little break, y'know? Would you mind watching him for me for a moment?"
Red Son was about to say no- but the look on his face, the look of someone who was oh so close to Losing It made him reconsider.
"...Sure..." Red Son said, slowly, "So long as it's only for a bit-"
"Cool! Thanks!" MK said, immediately letting go, turning and practically sprinting out of the room. "Good luck!"
Red Son had the ever looming sense that he had just doomed himself.
(He should have never accepted their offer to join them on the ship. But dammit, MK had offered some of that spicy candy he knew Red Son liked, and the fire demon just couldn't have refused.)
For a few blissful minutes, it was silent, Red Son staring at Wukong in apprehension, while Wukong hardly seemed to have noticed that anything had changed at all, still snugly wrapped in his nest of blankets.
And then Wukong lifted his head, a questioning expression on his face.
"...Does blue exist?" He asked, and a look that was somewhere between exasperation and pure terror made it's way onto Red Son's face.
"Noodle Boy, hurry up with your break and get back in here, your mentor's going existential!" He yelled, looking in the direction MK had gone, desperately hoping that the other would come back and save him from this fate.
"You can handle it!" MK's voice called faintly.
"...If blue doesn't exist......Then red doesn't exist......so does that mean you don't exist?" Wukong asked, under his breath, looking at Red Son with fear.
"I most certainly can not handle this!" Red Son yelled, "Could somebody please get over here?"
Nobody answered his call. Red Son honestly hadn't expected them to.
After all, he would've made the exact same choice.
He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose, trying to figure out how to respond to the monkey that currently seemed to be having an existential crisis.
Only to jump as he heard an ear shattering scream of frustration ring through the ship.
This had the fortune of snapping Wukong out of his crisis, instead having him simply look confused. Red Son ignored the faint shouts from Macaque's room (something about 'fuck you've got a serious pair of lungs' and 'warn a guy next time') as he tried to calm himself down from the sudden scare.
Geez. MK had seriously needed that break.

Hi, do you think Tanaka is sending updates of r!ciel/UT movements to o!ciel?
The secret-keeper
I don’t think Tanaka has sent our earl and/or Sebastian any updates, but I assume that’s because it’s not safe for him to do that right now.
You see, according to Mother3 theory, Tanaka is the parallel to Leder, the tallest inhabitant of Tazmily Village, the lamp lighter of the village, and the only one who was allowed to keep the secrets of how the village came to be founded. Leder never says a word to anyone (and I do mean anyone) until Lucas, Duster, Violet/Kumatora, and Boney (the loyal dog) find him chained up in the sewer system of New Pork City. There, Leder finally gets to explain to Lucas and his friends that all the humans who came to Nowhere Islands did so by a large white boat, and that they were the lone (known) survivors of an apocalyptic event. Everyone’s memories were wiped, except his (Leder’s). Lucas needs to fulfill a prophecy to bring about and end another apocalyptic event. The Magypsies have been telling Lucas pretty much the same thing: he’s possibly the chosen one to stop the world from being completely destroyed… because there’s one other person trying to fulfill the prophecy, but that other person is “heartless” (after being turned into a Fascinating Chimera), and a “heartless” person would cause the world to possibly no longer even exist, if they were the one to wake the Dark Dragon. That other person is Claus, Lucas’s older mirror twin brother, who had gone missing, but he was killed and reanimated as a Fascinating Chimera.
Our earl/our Ciel has one other (pseudo) parallel in Mother3: Pusher, the mayor of Tazmily Village. Pusher has a wife, they live in the mayor’s house, and they have a butler… named Sebastian. More about this later….
——
Here are the character and location parallels mentioned in this post:
Lucas || our earl/our Ciel
Pusher || Earl of Phantomhive, in this case our earl/our Ciel
Elmore (Pusher’s wife) || Elizabeth (the Earl of Phantomhive’s betrothed)
Claus || real Ciel
“Fascinating Chimera” Claus/Masked Man || “Bizarre Doll” real Ciel/Lord Sirius
Fascinating Chimera || Bizarre Dolls
Leder || Tanaka
Boney || Sebastian obeying under contract
Dark Dragon || Sebastian acting as the demon he really is
Sebastian || Sebastian as a butler, pretending to be human
Duster || Edward (possibly needs Lizzie to assist)
Violet/Kumatora || Gregory Violet (but some aspects could also potentially be filled by Nina or even Sieglinde, depending on the situation)
The seven Magypsies || the seven reapers that have been mentioned by name in the manga series: Grelle, Ronald, William, Sascha, Ludger, Othello, and Undertaker/136649. Undertaker would specifically be Locria, the Magypsy who deserts the others and changes their name to Fassad. Grelle’s best match is Ionia. Ronald’s best match is probably Phrygia 😆. Aeolia is their leader… so probably William, a soul collection manager. That leaves the other three to be paired up with Lydia, Mixolydia, and Doria.
King Porky || Queen Victoria
Tazmily Village || the Phantomhive estate and surrounding earldom
Nowhere Islands || the British Isles (including Ireland)
New Pork City || probably London, but depending on where they meet up with Tanaka again, it could be Brighton. If the parallel ends up being with Brighton, then New Porky Building would be the parallel to the resort hotel that real Ciel uses as a hideout. Word is that people are moving into the resort hotel as if it’s a permanent residence, much like people were moving out of Tazmily Village and into New Pork City. If I’m right about Tower Bridge, then some people from the Phantomhive earldom probably moved to London to work on Tower Bridge, while the earldom belonged to the crown (after the attack until our earl gained the title of Earl). And now, real Ciel has possibly moved some of the people from the earldom to the resort in Brighton. Other people our earl and Sebastian might run into at the resort hotel? The Viscount of Druitt… as well as Queen Victoria, John Brown, and Double Charles.
——
Back to our earl as current Earl. If we think of the little village that surrounds the Phantomhive estate as Tazmily Village, then the Earl of Phantomhive (as earl) is like its mayor. That would make him a partial parallel to Pusher, the mayor of Tazmily Village. Lizzie, as future wife to the earl, would be a parallel to Elmore, Pusher’s wife. Then Sebastian would be the parallel to… Sebastian, Pusher’s butler. And Tanaka, originally styled as “House Steward(?)”, would be like Leder, the village lamp lighter.
Leder was chosen as lamp lighter and holder of the village secrets for both his extreme height and his loyalty. Tanaka is shown in chibi form and super distorted form, particularly early on… instead of being extremely tall. Just like Leder, Tanaka has all sorts of important information that he needs to tell the main protags, in this case our earl and Sebastian. If the parallel to Leder holds up, he’s not just full of secrets; he’s also completely loyal to the Phantomhives.
Sure, Tanaka has probably gained some very interesting intel on real Ciel and Undertaker, but I think he’s also chock full of information regarding the Phantomhives, such as information on Vincent, Cloudia/Claudia, and possibly farther back (Phantomhive lineage). Stuff that he’s possibly the only one who knows, being the last surviving member of the old household staff. I mean… considering the fact Vincent left Tanaka in charge of finishing up some of his watchdog work, and the fact he’s well acquainted with both Diedrich and his butler Heinrich… Tanaka knows about old watchdog assignments. He also likely knows about things Vincent was doing that might have gone against the queen’s orders. And Queen Victoria is an easy parallel to King Porky.
Our earl hasn’t asked Tanaka the right questions. He asked Tanaka if he knew/recognized the attackers… but he didn’t ask whether Tanaka knew what Vincent might have done for such a massive attack to be ordered. Sure, in Vincent’s line of work, he must have made many enemies. But our earl should have asked to learn everything about his father’s doings the past several years, leading up to that attack and fire. Like the “Windsor incident”… or what involvement the Phantomhives might have originally had regarding the plans and construction of Tower Bridge….

The Birth of Valentine
Bruce Wayne/Batman X Pre-Batmom!Reader
A/N: I think I’ll be cutting most of my Author’s Notes out of future Fics. It seems like no one reads them anyways. Nevertheless, enjoy this prequel! - Nemo
Summary: Living in Gotham City is rough, and night spent fighting crime and causing it only mean you end up more tired than before. One day you get a gift, and that puts a whole new level of meaning to the words ‘true justice’.

Gotham was a nasty place, there was no doubt about it.
Crime, from pickpocketing to almost genocide, was always happening - and if it wasn’t, it was being planned. The city you called home, located neatly in New Jersey, was also home to one of the largest collections of Villains (‘Super’ or otherwise) this side of the Atlantic Ocean. An attack on Gotham’s population was a monthly occurrence - or at least if felt like it.
Luckily, and for some unluckily, Gotham was also home to one of the greatest heroes humanity had to offer. You.
And some other guy who dressed up as a Bat, with a vampire-like attitude to match.
While you were only able to reach certain areas of Gotham, to protect those who needed it, he was able to reach all of Gotham, and not only protected the people, but defended them too. Admittedly, you did go about things a little differently.
He seemed to be funded (lucky bastard), and showed up with his own decked-out car, plane, bike, even a boat, and all on top of an array of weapons and gear to help him out. As far as him getting a hand of help, he didn’t exactly seem to be asking for it. He worked alone.
You, on the other hand, took help wherever you could get it. You still remember going out on your first night, decked in a bandana your grandmother had given you last time she visited, and whatever clothes you could find in your closet that hid your identity, while still being maneuverable. When you went out, you didn’t just save people, you found you were able to take things too.
While you were able to protect the children from their parents, and another person from a group in an alleyway, just the same were you able to climb through a vent in a jewelry store and sneak down to fill your pockets without showing your face. It kept people safe, and it kept food in your belly and a roof over your head.
But one day, after fending off a group of wannabe manly teenage boys, the elderly woman who was left behind curled her boney fingers around your hand and tugged you all the way back to her home. There she set her things down, and plucked a longsword off the table in the corner.
She laid it in your hands, smiling up at you with wrinkled lips, and wrapped your gloved fingers around the blade.
“You have a kind heart,” she’d said, “But a clouded mind. You strive for justice, and yet you fail to truly create it.”
She turned her back to you, going back over to the table to gingerly gather a book from the cupboard underneath it.
“Study. Meditate. Apply. Then you will be able to judge.”
You left her very confused, and owning one more sword and book than what you had less than fifteen minutes earlier. You took the rest of the night off - that Batman guy was handling himself well enough without getting in your way anyway - and took up studying the book. It wasn’t exactly in English, or any other language found on Google Translate, so you figured you needed to give yourself a little history lesson.
Tumblr media
Three months and a round trip to England later, you knew what the book said, and you knew what you had to do.
What an old lady had to do with a book saying things like this one did, you had no clue, but you did know that the book helped you use the sword. Or helped the sword use you.
It was a modern-day King Arthur’s sword.
Back home in your appartment, among your corkboards and dim lighting, you were able to read it.
“Granting power beyond the supernatural, eyes seeing more than just above the surface,” you read, “Properly used, it can judge a man justice - pure and true. But poorly used by an ill hand, it can tear down - bringing destruction and chaos.”
Eyeing the sword, its blade neatly wrapped in a red cloth across the room, you lent back in your chair. You almost wondered what it had seen. How much war, death, and blood. Surely it must’ve seen good things too, peace, rebirth, or mercy.
Turning a page in the book and taking it in one hand, you kept reading and walked over to handle the sword. There was one phrase in the book that wasn’t like the rest. It wasn't the same language, in fact the ‘sore thumb’ sentence was much easier to translate than the rest, because it was in Latin. Translating the words ‘Acta deos numquam mortalia fallunt’ was like a godsend compared to everything else. However, when you spoke them aloud, in English no less, you regretted calling them a godsend.
“I get it’s good advice, but the hell is "Mortal actions never deceive the gods," supposed to mean -”
A jolt was sent up your arm, stopping your words in your throat. You dropped the book from your hand, and while you wanted to also drop the sword or let out a yelp, nothing more happened. You were practically frozen to the spot. Looking down, you could see the markings on the sword glow, and catching your reflection in the window you saw your eyes were matching the glow like there was no tomorrow.
That night you took to the streets of Gotham.
You caused no havoc, you stole nothing, you broke into nowhere. Instead you leap from rooftops, you shimmied up walls, and leaped off buildings.
The sword let you serve justice - pure and true - and it would help you do that by any means. With the sword you had a purpose, and that purpose made you indestructible.
So you donned a name, and among the darkness of the night you joined the ranks of vigilantism.

Storyshift: How does Toriel and Sans’ friendship differ from their Undertale Counterparts’?
I believe in the beginning the two were quite close, since the king himself helped to train her - however, after secretly adopting Chara, she grew to resent him while still doing his dirty work.
It’s rather sad from Sans’s perspective. One day out of nowhere, suddenly Toriel wouldn’t speak to him anymore unless she absolutely had to. He tried to apologize despite not knowing what he did wrong, and Toriel can’t tell him the reason why otherwise he’d know about the human she’s been housing from him right under his boney nose.
