I AM DOING IT CURRENTLY!!! It's so much fun I haven't had this much fun doing such specific, concrete work (as opposed to the no right answer theoretical discussions in english classes) in YEARS. I got legitimately SAD this afternoon because there was like a timing error with the homework file from today and I can't access it yet. like I have genuinely wished the assignments were longer because i'm just!!! language!!! and my dad's also studying linguistics but a few classes ahead of me, and sometimes i sit next to him while he does his homework and i'm just like. wow. I can't wait till I know how to do that that looks like so much fun <3

I'm not very far into it, but everything so far has been so incredibly appealing to my interests. IPA and IPA transcription, how each sound is produced and where in the mouth, how language is acquired, what makes human languages different from animal, how words are formed, how they change over time, the development/relationship to writing, region and social variation. It's literally studying the concept and function of language itself! like the core of every other language you've learned!

also currently my focus is on Nahuatl! that's the one I'm actively taking classes for at the moment--i'm on the second semester. though because it's taught in spanish I'm also brushing up heavily on spanish via necessity. nicamati nimomachtiaz ceyoc tlahtolli :)

you learn that the world is so much more complex than you were taught, and that that's okay, and that there's an endless supply of things you can learn or watch or experience or think about if you want to. if you're lucky, you loosen up, stop putting so much pressure on yourself. if you're lucky, you learn to recognize that negative inner voice, and whack it with a baseball bat until it hushes up. if you're lucky, you learn to treat yourself gently, not because you are fragile but because you are worthy of gentleness. (i hope you are lucky.)

and some things will change. some things will get better. some things will get good. and maybe you start to recover from the dehumanizing stress of childhood/education. maybe you learn the power of your own autonomy. maybe you learn how to walk away from bad situations (which is a superpower even if you don't realize it yet). and you get to choose your own clothes. and your own food. and which relationships to pursue! and what you do with your free time. and with your life (but don't worry you get to choose that gradually). and that's crazy! and sometimes scary. and extraordinarily, indescribably precious.

i think normal josh should be a little autistic. as a treat

Normal Josh autism win! Perhaps the red sweater thing he was drawn in (here!) is a comfort item with a pleasant texture. Perhaps he misses the fact that kotlcrew isn't normal because he's never been or felt normal himself. Perhaps he likes to join Sophie and Keefe on their human cookie runs because the store-bought cookies always have a consistent texture, which he can't always find in the elven world. Perhaps he bakes alongside Fitz so he's involve in the process and the final result is less intimidating to try if it's something new, and they can make adjustments to help him as they go. Perhaps he has trouble controlling his volume and gets really loud when he's excited, and he gets excited around his friends a lot and they know it means he cares. Perhaps he stims with his hair or with his sweater! Or with a bracelet he wears or by chewing on something. Perhaps when he's drained he likes to sit and listen and his friends give him space but still include him, even if he's too normal and all the Neverseen stuff goes right over his head.

So many possibilities! So many things to explore--both the enjoyable and draining aspects of autism, though I did focus on the more positive in this specific post. I'm totally down to shoot Normal Josh with the autism beam :)
