Summary: "This is a world in which Mob and Reigen’s paths have never crossed, in which 10-year-old Mob found psychic guidance in the form of the aging, retired tv personality Keiji Mogami, in which Reigen followed through on his plans to close the Spirits and Such Agency, in which a cruel twist of Mob’s powers forces him to confront how dangerous he really is. 10 year old Shigeo Kageyama has vanished, his trail instantly cold, and his case gathers dust in police archives as a kidnapping never solved. Four years pass before a chain of events causes his path to cross with that of the despondent, unfulfilled fake-psychic-turned-fake-investigator, Arataka Reigen. Reigen finds himself in over his head caring for an escaped victim of abuse who, for reasons unfathomable, has been taught to believe his very existence is a horrifically dangerous thing…"

Literally The most iconic MP100 fic written by the lovely @phantomrose96 (If it makes it into the competition, u should tag her tumblr. She's amazing and I want her to know how much I appreciate her work <3)
Huaghhhh oh my god. Litchrally so good it’s insane. I actually read this before watching ANY of mp100 and it still worked completely. Like it works for someone completely unfamiliar to the source material, but it’s not unrecognizable by any meaning of the word. The characterization is so good, tge way everything slots together, and now that I have seen mp100 it all makes sense for their characters. It’s so good I cannot stress this enough. Read it!
abot my beloved when will it return from the war

ok here's the lisa westworld parallels post i promised
disclaimer: i have not seen s4 of ww, did not really like s3, and am mostly basing my analyses off of s1 and s2
tldr there are a lot of similarities between the stories of buddy and dolores as victims of gender-based violence who revolt against those they view as a threat
to begin it's important to recognize that these are stories about gender-based violence. while yeah terrible shit happens to hosts (and real people) of all genders, ww centers around dolores (and also maeve), a woman who was sexually assaulted a lot. the character events of painful/joyful litchrally wouldn't have happened if not for a young girl being a victim of sexual abuse, and joyful is all about a girl constantly in danger of being sexually assaulted specifically because she is a girl.
dolores spends much of her life only partially aware of what and who she really is, drifting closer to sentience and then further away from it, and her dancing on the edge leads her to confusion, anger, and sadness. this eventually tips over into full on rage when she understands who and what she is and remembers all of the pain people inflicted on her - for the guests it was assault, harassment, even murder, but it was her creators and the employees who hid her true self away from her - and she's had enough of it, she flips the script, now she is the one in control, and she's fucking pissed. she's spent so many years as a plaything for people to use and abuse however they want, and for however much her creators cared for her, they still denied her free will.
her revenge quest, her self-righteous behavior, flaunting her new strength**, turning the tables on those who hurt her or who might hurt her, are how she responds to her new situation. because is she really that wrong to respond this way? she's finally not chained by people who raped her or killed her or might have raped or killed her, she's not acting irrationally***, she's avenging every life she's lost, she wants her oppressors to feel the same terror and pain she felt over and over and over again, to know how it feels in her shoes. her quest is defined by killing, not only park guests but also her fellow hosts, park staff. and the military guys sent in. she knows what they would do to her if they caught her. she feels herself changing, but she doesn't care, because it's new, and it's all her, not what someone is forcing her to be...but is she truly herself, is she truly free? she doesn't realize until it's too late how much teddy meant to her and how awful it was that she literally changed his brain because she knew he wouldn't stay with her otherwise. by the end of s2, she is horribly alone, and if bernard (ha) hadn't brought her back to life, she would have died alone.
it's really not that different from buddy, and even some parts of the setting are similar. olathe is kind of the wild west but with bigger guns and a wider variety of clothes. there are differences in buddy's own revenge quest, of course, notably the fact that while dolores' creator did prevent her from becoming sentient, she doesn't really seem to resent arnold for it. she's also a grown adult, not a child, and isn't jacked up on drugs, and the man she pushes away and who dies because of her is her boyfriend, not her brother. dolores' rebellion is more against the system of the park and she kills anyone who is either human or a host that poses a threat to her. buddy also doesn't shy away from mass violence, but she's rebelling against her father and a world full of people who objectify her. objectification is huge for both of them, literally in the case of dolores. both of them now have the chance to get back at the men who have/could assault them because they view them as objects, to keep themselves safe for the first time in forever, because they're capable of it.
they try to get rid of their past, but they can't, it catches up to them in the forms of the men close to them; buddy has brad and dustin, dolores has peter and teddy. notably peter and brad play completely different roles, but they both represent a tie to who the girls used to be that they can't or don't want to let go of. the same goes for dustin and teddy, they come with the girls into the future but they're so deeply built into their past that even in this new world, they have a hard time adjusting to the girls' ways of thinking and how they carry out their quests. teddy was forced to follow dolores' beliefs, dustin followed buddy because he wanted to keep her safe. but neither of them wanted senseless violence, and were forced into situations where they had to commit acts of violence they ordinarily wouldn't agree with. ultimately, they can't go on with helping these girls, even though they love them, because they've been hurt too deeply by them and the situations the girls have brought them into. dustin dies one way or another, and teddy kills himself.
depending on what you, the player, choose for buddy at the end of joyful, her ending could be the same as dolores': rejecting the fake world that their oppressors have given to them. dolores watches the hosts go through the door and their "brains" are uploaded to a fantasy world where they are free...but she doesn't agree, she doesn't think that this is freedom - she knows that real freedom is dangerous, but if humans get to have it, so does she. she says it's just another cage, refuses to enter it, and she destroys the door. if you choose to leave the hallucinations of buddy's family, she also rejects the fake world and chooses the real one, no matter how difficult it is to be a part of it. they fought their way through hell, but they're not done fighting.
while most of this is about dolores and buddy i think there are some similarities with william and brad, most notably how strongly they cling to the woman/girl they have objectified (in VASTLY different ways, william was in love(?) with dolores and brad is buddy's father, but they still didn't see the girls as their own people. william latches onto dolores because he's attracted to her and because she makes him feel needed. brad treats buddy as his sister by proxy and sees her as that above all else.), and how that attachment drives them to violence. now, i find brad's quest much more understandable (obviously there's like, issues, but it makes sense that he would not want his young daughter running loose around a ton of sex pests), because william's obsession with dolores is just disturbing, latching onto an android woman and refusing to let go of his obsession for DECADES, going to the park over and over again just to hurt the hosts and her in particular because he wants the hosts to learn to fight back. this destroys their relationships with others (while i'm like. eh about brad killing sticky or rick or both [i won't get into that rn BUT I SURE WILL AT SOME POINT], william was one of the reasons his wife committed suicide and he kills his own fucking DAUGHTER because of his paranoia and pride) and eventually leads to their downfall.
i don't think anyone will read this but it's also helpful for me to just type all this stuff out, and i love drawing parallels between media like this, it makes me so happy to see common themes and such between such vastly different creations, an indie RPG maker game vs. a prestige-ish HBO show. finding similarities is just one of those things that makes my heart go skittles color. yknow?
** like the parts where dolores is like, quoting her old lines when she was hanging guests, showing off her abilities with the tablet, stuff like that. it kinda made me cringe when i watched it from an audience's perspective but from her perspective it kinda makes sense. like she's had these lines fed to her her whole life and now she can use them in the context she wants. she's reveling in strength that she was never allowed to have. so she's hamming it up for fun lmao
***what i mean by 'not acting irrationally' is that it makes sense that she, as a rape and worse victim and because of her new more aggressive personality, is hostile towards the guests because she knows that they might very well plan on (or maybe already have) done those acts to her. like it makes sense for her as a character.

These morons with a victim complex never actually make any sort of argument against you, all they do is tell you to shut up, call you slurs, call you a homophobe, complain about feminists, insult you and curse at you. No arguments, no counter-arguments, just abuse and guilt tripping.
"so you're saying gay men are sex crazed perverts huh?" idk dude you're the one with the blog plastered with the pics of headless men with their ass hanging out who's always making cringe ass posts about sex, you tell me. Are you annoyed bc you think it's a complete lie or bc youve been found out and looking in a mirror upsets you? Lol
litchrally. this isn't even a question of like a gradual development of enmity the moment i said the first slightly critical thing they started doing this there was never a chance of debate

not one hundo on how to phrase this but i feel like people forget (esp when talking about anxiety and abuse) that theres a huge difference between the theoretical and the lived experience. like, theres a difference between someone thinking that everyone secretly hates them because theyre insecure & someone thinking everyone secretly hates them because theyve been systematically excluded & ostracized their whole life and have found out that people have in fact been talking about them behind their back before for real. like im not scared of this because i think it might happen, im scared that it might happen AGAIN...
No literally thats exactly it you phrased it perfectly imo (!!!!!!) I really love my therapist & she’s helped me so so much but this particular concept does not translate well in our sessions. also my bf has very intense anxiety and I’ve had this convo w him as well like. he’s afraid of/anxious about things that have not yet happened, and EYE usually am afraid of/anxious about things that have already occurred happening again. and not to be dramatic but (it feels like) there’s really no coming back from shit that’s already happened. it’s already imbedded itself into my brain as truth (even if it isn’t) and I’ve already incorporated it into my view of myself. it’s waaaay fucking harder to unlearn something you’ve taken for truth for so long (litchrally 15+ years in my case) than to like….ward off something that MIGHT be true, if that makes sense. idk I feel like I’m rambling but you’re 100% correct and I’m glad I’m not the only person to feel this way lol

the funny thing with ranko is that, tho i may not personally like it idgaf that she likes jin, because in fact it’s waht feeds what i liked about her in the first place. now clarifying so my words don’t get twisted.
i already said what i like abt characters like her, casca, gorn, roberto etc in that one post. and that i’ve also had compared her to nanami/rei wrt to older siblings (not so much as characters but as a sort of relationship archetype in shoujo). but in all honesty she’s the person with the LEAST reason in both of those group to be this obsessed (adjusted for tone and genre obv) with anybody, so imo that makes her stubborness so much nonsensical and apparent, and i find that funny. casca got a new life, gorn was liberated from ghost’s influence, got to remember one of the most valued moments of his life after being basically brainwashed, so on and so forth. what did ranko get? jin taught her a sport. and was treated the normal way an older brother does to a younger sister. like nanami and rei were in an active abuse situation.
and i want to emphazise, jin treated her the ***most normal way an older brother has treated their younger sister in this recent bunch ive read/watched lol. like that man was FLINGING highschool girls across rooms while berating them, he befriended his best friend through a fist fight, i don’t think he likes his father, barely respectful to his superiors, not proyecting into her neither his unfulfilled dreams NOR his mommy issues onto her like he does w hiromi. literally just siblings-that-dont-hate-eachother activities. doesnt get mad at her, is not weirdly obsessed with her, not even abnormally preferential, idk if he knew that she liked him honestly. but like this is the ONLY NORMAL thing this man has done. so like. and like yeah at first she didn’t know they were related, but what about after that, like who forced you to crawl in the mud for this otherwise shitty guy that, in the first place is not precisely concerned about the age or familiarity thing since he’s dating your underclassman and already got his freudian proyections over her 🤡. like if he wanted it wouldve already happened, he doesnt want you ass Like That, he’s normal about you. this is a problem you literally just get yourself out of, litchrally self-made suffering lol.
going back to paragraph 2, despite the difference in gravity lol those new identities theyre granted do serve a similar function on a relationship level, and behave similarly too, as i said in the og post: the same attributes they feed from their object of admiration are the same thing that makes them progressively unreachable, etc. BUT, again what’s different about her from them is that, ironically despite having the relationship with the lowest stakes out of them, she gets like, the crystalization of what those admiration=depersonalization relationships are. that lunarian guy i dont remember the name of? he’s real. griffith? touga? VERY real, real, tangible threats, but also people who’s humanity (let’s say failability, negative emotions) is ultimately easy to see. now, AwN is not a metaphorical, or symbolic or obsessed with aesthecism series, it’s a spokon lol, it’s pretty much grounded, so i’m again adjusting severity to context. in contrast what is jin? DEAD. dead for like half of the series lol. so what is he not? a threat, anymore. his image exists only in memory and legacy. and so, you know what people don’t consider dead people to be for some reason? pieces of trash. all your shitty behaviour and your harrassing of teenagers and combativeness disappear in thin air when your dead, and only your feats and how nice you were are remembered. he can’t fail or disappoint anyone or lose shine anymore because he’s freezed foreven in the ice of idolization and idealization. what does that make him into, specially in relation to ranko? perfectly and utterly unreachable. like what is she gonna do? he can’t literally be less romanceable than when hes dead, and it grants me peace of mind that nothing is gonna happen xd.
what does that benefit me, you ask. well aside from my interest in that *kind* of dynamic (of the other post), in the most simplest terms is that i then dont have to worry about her being a weirdo or him reciprocating. like what is she gonna do? he can’t literally be less romanceable than when hes dead, and it grants me peace of mind that nothing is gonna happen AND i get the weirdo girl anyways lol. her self-made, completely avoidable, dead-ended suffering is like the key of why i find her entertaining. while she’s serious, talented enough, strong willed and does quite well for the most part of the series, that sliiiight, subtle kiss of misfortune (not completely unrelated to her hubris lol) in JUST the right moments, that subtextual daunting knowledge that she will be forever unfulfilled, stopped RIGHT Before is soooo *chef kiss* funny as hell. lovely.

genuinely so afraid of the backlash this is gonna cause but like really what’s the harm in him getting reassessed? I know my mom won’t see it that way but yk what she abuses my brother so why do I give a fuck actually
