Ava Gardner during the filming of Ride, Vaquero!, 1953
"Music was always in her blood, but as long as the radio blared with good jazz or swing, that was for Ava and you could keep the rest. Now she buys records. Now Debussy, Ravel and Sibelius send her, and she looks forward to the day when she'll understand Beethoven. The ex-playgirl can have a heavenly time, eating dinner alone, listening to records and reading. Or spending an evening with a few like-minded friends, whose interests range far beyond Hollywood and Vine. Except for Duff and the Van Heflins, they’re not movie people. Three years ago she’d have thought it would bore her silly to sit quietly, talking the hours away. Now she finds that nothing makes her feel more alive than the process of stretching her mental horizons."
-Modern Screen magazine, March 1949

I feel I am in love with you, and it should be spring. I want the sun throbbing on my head like chords of music. I think of a sun like Beethoven, a wind like Debussy, and bird-calls like Stravinsky. But the tempo is all mine.

"Vendredi Saint. Ce jour-là, les concerts symphoniques deviennent « spirituels », on n'a jamais su pourquoi, étant donné qu'on y joue spirituellement les mêmes choses." 🕊🌿🙏

The things you hold dear— friends, family, lovers— hurt you the most. You live with that.

Bro Istg I had never listened to the entire Claire de Lune. Now I think it might have inspired the Great fairy fountain theme from Zelda because of how the piece sound when you get arround minute 2:37.

A SON OF THE GOD FAUNUS
So... since it was my off-day today, I couldn't help but go a little further with my drawing of the faun from earlier...
... and by 'a little further', I mean a full gouache paint-over and white ink highlighting. :3
By the way, Claude Debussy's 'Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun' (original title: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune) is a pretty beautiful piece of music to listen to while painting/working.
