"I got the aches and the pains and the poison in my veins, so come on" ❤️🖤
Happy release weekend to Alkaline Trio's new album Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs. Truly a masterpiece. I haven't felt this deeply from new music in so long.

Hi all! If you've been following me for a while, you know that I am a high school teacher in Texas. I love my job and all that it offers me on a professional and personal level. One thing that teaching does not offer me is the kind of funding that would allow me to purchase necessary self-regulation tools, as well as extra supplies and rewards for my students. If you have a couple of bucks to spare, I have a few items listed on my Amazon Wish List that will go towards supporting my students. Love y'all!!!!!!

💫The Best of Both Worlds: Astrology in the Classroom (Pt. 1) 🏫
If you ever want to see absolute chaos in a classroom, do a basic (sun signs only) astrology lesson. Then, ask your students to guess what you are at the very end.
I teach senior high school/pre-university, and it was a very needed break! My students had an excuse to talk about personal topics ahead of a busy exam season.
In my EFL (English) and FLE (français) classes, astrology was their most memorable lesson this school year. No one remembered the signs in a foreign language, though!! It might take some time as this was more of a fun lesson.
When I asked my students and colleagues to guess my sign, they said:
Aries student: "You're the lion, your hair is like one."
Pisces student: "You're the water pot. All the other teachers are!!" (Half of the teachers in my department are Aquarius folks)
Virgo language teacher: "Definitely a Scorpio." (His Venus and Mars are conjunct in Scorpio)
Several Aquarius language teachers in unison over donuts: "Libra?"
Scorpio language teacher after the Aquarius language teachers: "Beer? Wine? Snacks? Those are signs, right?"
Oldest Aquarius language teacher: "Psychic? Psycho? Crazy? Isn't there something that starts with C?"
Capricorn colleague: "The wife sign? My future wife?"
Taurus history teacher: "A dictator? What is that dude's sign? You know, the violent one? Are you vodka or soju?"
Cancer PE teacher: "Pretty? The big fish? Pie? You are pretty pie?"
Out of a few hundred students and several dozen colleagues, no one got my sign right!! 😢 However, they got my Venus, Mercury, Mars, and other aspects. Perhaps it's because I'm at the other end of the world from my birthplace.
Soon, I'll post more about my EFL/FLE classes and experiences. I teach in a country that doesn't use English often and is at a significant crossroads with AI and language education.
If you want any classroom resources for this kind of lesson, just message me!

Things In My Neurodivergent Class That Just Make Sense
Very little HW
Stim toys and plushies
Class is routine based and structure, but it's not complicated. I don't do a ton of handouts. I don't dumb my kids down.
I NEVER do group work.
Cross curriculum is BS. Math and English are not compatible. I don't do it.
I don't hide how stupid standardized testing is.
I teach in a religious school, so I'm constantly trying to help my kids through their already existing religious trauma. It's extremely exhausting.
Graphic organizers and other forms of extremely guided work are insulting and boring, so I don't use them.
Lecture and group discussions are better when they are relaxed and INTERESTING.

I’m coaching the middle school Jr. Iron Chef team this year! I’m so excited and I adore all the kids on my team. They decided to make poke bowls and worked hard to pull a recipe together. Their first practice went great, the bowls looked and tasted delicious, even if a little salty (something to work on for next practice!). Bair was with me and he ate so much that he didn’t want any of the dinner Dave made for him when we got home!

Make sure to check in on and take care of the teachers in your life. These upcoming back to school weeks are basically the opposite of teacher appreciation month for us.

Hello! Recently, a lot of people have asked me what I want to be when I get older (as most high school kids and adults do.) Unfortunately, whenever I respond by telling them that I want to teach, the usual response is something along the lines of "You don't actually want to do that. It's a terrible job with terrible pay!" It gets a lot worse when I tell them that I'd like to teach either English or Psychology at a high-school level. So, is it really such a bad job? Also, so that I can prove them wrong, what is the best (or a good) education/career path into teaching at a high school level? Thank you so much!

R/teachers drives me up the wall fr. Literally just a vent forum for people who hate people and yet for some reason chose to work a highly social job with hundreds of small, vulnerable people. Like no wonder yall are miserable, your attitude is crusty and every single student knows it and gives it back to you. What a joke.
