My French teacher found out I was Icelandic and made our classroom into ice and made me eat it. I don’t take French classes. The dream was in Indonesian.

💫The Best of Both Worlds: Astrology in the Classroom (Pt. 1) 🏫
If you ever want to see absolute chaos in a classroom, do a basic (sun signs only) astrology lesson. Then, ask your students to guess what you are at the very end.
I teach senior high school/pre-university, and it was a very needed break! My students had an excuse to talk about personal topics ahead of a busy exam season.
In my EFL (English) and FLE (français) classes, astrology was their most memorable lesson this school year. No one remembered the signs in a foreign language, though!! It might take some time as this was more of a fun lesson.
When I asked my students and colleagues to guess my sign, they said:
Aries student: "You're the lion, your hair is like one."
Pisces student: "You're the water pot. All the other teachers are!!" (Half of the teachers in my department are Aquarius folks)
Virgo language teacher: "Definitely a Scorpio." (His Venus and Mars are conjunct in Scorpio)
Several Aquarius language teachers in unison over donuts: "Libra?"
Scorpio language teacher after the Aquarius language teachers: "Beer? Wine? Snacks? Those are signs, right?"
Oldest Aquarius language teacher: "Psychic? Psycho? Crazy? Isn't there something that starts with C?"
Capricorn colleague: "The wife sign? My future wife?"
Taurus history teacher: "A dictator? What is that dude's sign? You know, the violent one? Are you vodka or soju?"
Cancer PE teacher: "Pretty? The big fish? Pie? You are pretty pie?"
Out of a few hundred students and several dozen colleagues, no one got my sign right!! 😢 However, they got my Venus, Mercury, Mars, and other aspects. Perhaps it's because I'm at the other end of the world from my birthplace.
Soon, I'll post more about my EFL/FLE classes and experiences. I teach in a country that doesn't use English often and is at a significant crossroads with AI and language education.
If you want any classroom resources for this kind of lesson, just message me!

So funny to see people saying "but why don't you accept the offer made by the National Education Ministry? When you are a young teacher isn't it normal to want to be paid more? Working more for being paid more is logical! You all are just lazy!!".
My dear friend. The reason why we don't accept Pap Ndiaye's offer and don't want to sign the Pact, is simply because we have 0 trust in them not to fuck us over with that.
"You are going to have a higher paid they said!" Yeah you are right, we have something like 100€/month more (way less if you are not a young teacher because in the EN you are punished for keeping doing your job). But you know what is so petty that I would applaud if we were not victims? This 100 euros are not within the basis salary but paid as a bonus. Which means it is not taken into account for the pension.
So yeah, why do you think we should trust them and work more for them when they are doing shit like this?
(Also if you knew the number of unpaid hours we do to keep the school running and to keep up with each minister's whims... 😒🙄)

27.07.2022 I set the camera on a seven second intervalometer while I exercised.
I remember thinking that, I’m lucky that my French teacher, who is also a yoga instructor, Yaëlle, doesn’t have an Instagram account because for sure I am doing all the poses wrong. As I am posting this, over two months later, Yaëlle made an Instagram account and I am sure that just as I can’t pronounce the difference between e, é or è, I am also doing the seated garudasana wrong. 🥲 #207of365

I am amazed by the fact my little french lesson about MON/MA/MES got so much success and helpful for some of you!
I am to the point to think if I should write a new lesson every day for people who like to include in their fanfics or for the ones who would like to learn french…
If there is some people who is interested by it just put a kudo or something like that :’)
Maybe I will write something !

Insane teacher this insane teacher that but nothing will ever be as insane as my Theory of Knowledge teacher happily telling us we’re all going to fail the IB and proceeding to hit play on Dua Lipa’s “not my problem” and dance and sing along in his French accent at the front of the classroom while we all cried

kids remind me, often, of the things i've taught myself out of.
i have a big dog. he looks like a deer. he is taller than most young children. while we were on a trail the other day, a boy coming our direction saw us and froze. he took a step back and said: "i'm feeling nervous. your - your dog is kind of big."
goblin and i both stopped walking immediately. "he is kind of a big dog," i admitted. "he's called a greyhound. they are gentle but they are pretty tall, which is kind of scary, you're right. their legs are so long because they are made for running fast. i am sorry we scared you. would you like us to stand still while you move past us, or would you feel more safe in your body if we move and you stay still?'
"oh. i didn't know that about - greyhounds. i think i ... i want to stay still," he said. at this point, his adult had caught up to us. "i'm nervous about the dog," he told her, "so i'm - i'm gonna stay still." she didn't argue. she didn't make fun of him. she just smiled at him and at me and held his hand while goblin and i, with as wide of a berth as we could make, crept our way through.
behind us, i heard him exhale a deep breath and kind of laugh - "he was really big, huh? she said it's because greyhounds have to go fast."
"he was big," she said. "i understand why that could have made you a little scared."
"yeah. next time i - next time do you think i could maybe ask to touch him? when - i mean, next time, maybe, if i'm not nervous."
later, going to a work event, in the big city, i stood outside, trembling. my social anxiety as a caught bird in my chest. i took a deep breath and turned to my coworker. she's not even really my friend yet. i told her: "i feel nervous about this. i am not used to meeting new people, ever since covid."
she laughed, but not in a mean way. she said she was nervous too. she reached her hand out and held mine, and we both took another deep breath and walked in like that, interlinked. a few people asked us - together? - and i told the truth: i feel nervous, and she's helping. over and over i watched people relax too, admitting i feel really kind of shy lately actually, thank you for saying that.
the next time i go to an event, and i feel a little scared, i ask right away: wanna hold hands? this feels a little dangerous. i hesitate less. i don't hide it as much. i watch for other people who are also nervous and say - it's kinda hard, huh?
i know, logically, i'm not good at asking for help. but i am also not good at noticing when i need help. i've trained myself out of asking completely, but i've also trained myself to never accept my own fears or excuses. i have trained myself to tamp down every anxiety and just-push-through. i don't know what i'm protecting myself from - just that i never think to admit it to anyone.
but every person on earth occasionally needs comfort. every person on earth occasionally needs connection. many of us were taught independence is the same thing as never needing anything.
each of us should have had an adult who heard - i feel nervous and held our hand and asked us how we could be helped to feel safe. no judgement, and no chiding. many of us did not. many of us were punished for the ways that we seemed "weak".
but here is something: i am an adult now. and i get nervous a lot, actually. and if you are an adult and you are feeling a little nervous - come talk to me. we can hold hands and figure out what will help us feel safe in our bodies. and maybe, next time, if we're brave, we can pet the dog that's passing.
