Stranger things dropped a new season. I dont care for it. So I blocked the tag. A blog keeps popping up in my explore feed and I don’t care for their stuff? Block em.

Blocking does not inherently mean someone wronged you or you are morally against whatever you block. Give yourself a comfy space to retreat to.

#negative - this one's been in effect for some time, but it was infrequent enough that I didn't think of adding it. This is not necessarily ANY negative post, more posts that could seriously affect someone reading them. Because of this, a good chunk of Palestine-related posts are tagged with it. Not all of them, though, only the emotionally devastating ones.

alright so I'm entrenched in undertale and deltarune, which means I also tend to get homestuck content. I have no idea what the fuck homestuck is about but I know a lot of people love it and a lot of people hate it, so I jokingly tag any posts relating to homestuck with #cw homestuck. this is a joke and not intending to belittle any homestuck fans- I'm an undertale fan, I can't judge.

speaking of, any time I'm tagging posts with warning, I'll usually do two to four variations on #cw [xyz thing here]. I use cw much more often than tw, since it feels more inclusive to any reasons one might not want certain content on their dash. make sure if you've blocked the tw version of the tag, block the cw version as well.

I'm starting to realise people don't know how to filter the tags on ao3 like that's the best part of the site how do you find your fics without using them? Sure it's great to find fics on tumblr or twitter but that's also probably why people keep complaining to big creators about what they're writing if you don't wanna see something just filter the tag it's so simple lol

(also people complain about not finding the couple they want as the main, you can filter through their povs or their name and centric, literally anything with their name or the ship name lol) I admit I spent years on the fandom not liking ao3 because I hate to read there with the small letters but then I learned how to use the tags and my life changed

I suddently feel some sort if generational difference in the experience of fanfiction... So let me be clear and ask some question.

The tag system.

Is perfectly valid if you want to see all the trigger warning in a fanfiction. There is also a reason for the tag "Author choose to not use archive warning", so you know, if your read this kind of ff, that you can see... Somenthing. And about that, we all agree.

The other tags, anyway... Why me, as an author, have to spoiler my entire fic in the tag because... Because what? Where is the wonder of reading because you want to see what happen next, then?

(Also this is more and more hilarious because my fic is "almost canon compliant" (now I added the tag) so you know what happen next. You just don't know how. And that's the beauty, I suppose).

Also what do you think define a ship?! Just because two people have sex then it is a ship? Even if one of them didn't and never will fall in love with the other (and this is clear)? It's just a kiss?

I remember some years ago the frustration in the italian archive when I can not find a Snily for the love of good because everyone tag Snily and then... The story was about the love of Severus alone. Unrequited love. This is not a Snily you all!!! And everyone did this. It drived me mad.

(But at the same time now I am baffled because more then one person asks me to tag Jily in my story and... This is not a Jily?! Where for the love of good you see a Jily? Because of the sex? Because this will be almost canon compliant? Even if Lily never love him? Imagine being a Jily fan an open my story because of the tag... You think "oh well I don't mind some Snily if I can read some Jily". I will be in rage at the end of the story. I don't want to misstag a ship that isn't there just because you may see Lily with James somehow. This is not a ship, not for me).

Also I now added that even Severus will be with someone else - I took this opportunity to show the reader how Severus see sex and love and I find the ship blended well with my story, so I left it there - but why I have to do this when the only ship that matters is the Snily?!

And listen to me, I understand if you stop reading the story because of the other ships. Someone tell me this and I thanked them because this is perfectly valid. You don't want to see James and Lily togheter even if Lily doesn't love James? That's okay. I don't force anyone to read my story.

But it's the tag thing the drive me mad.

Names

Steal AO3's system and stick them all in the same tag to get past tumblrs dumb first 5 tags rule. Characters that I write more have all their names written out. Government name characters whose names aren't specific enough to immediately be determined as Tolkien characters or share a first name. Ex:

Used to be able to write ''fandom + character'' and I'd get posts that included both of those terms, but I get posts that include either. Like the reason I put both of those tags in is to narrow it down ! why did they change this !

To find a specific book, search for the title or author name.

Find all the posts featuring [famous person] or [author]

All posts that feature a historical figure or author will be tagged with that person's name. To find Fulvia (wife of Clodius), for instance, go to my Fulvia tag.

If a historical figure is very well-known, they may be tagged with just one name (Cicero, Pompey) or two (Julius Caesar), but most are tagged by their full names. So if nothing comes up at first, try a different version of their name. But I use the same format for each name consistently, so all relevant posts will be in the same tag.
