Baldur's Gate 3's three acts really are just the three Mass Effect games.

Act 1 is Mass Effect 1, it's a rock solid game that could be own thing and promises a greater adventure.

Act 2 is Mass Effect 2, darker and more character focused.

Act 3 is Mass Effect 3, character stories reach their climax as allies are gathered and great enemies are finally felled. And the ending completely shits all over your character and robs them of any real choice during the endgame.
