astro notes: profection houses
Tumblr media
In astrology, profection houses are a technique used to determine the primary theme or focus for a particular year of a person's life. The profection houses system assigns each year of a person's life to a specific house in their natal chart. The technique involves advancing the natal Ascendant by one sign for each year, starting from the sign of the individual's natal Ascendant.
For example, I am a sagittarius rising and will be 30 next year. My profection house will be the 7th house in gemini. Currently it is the 6th house and for the past year I have been extremely focused on my health, my work environments, my fur babies, and finances. As I shift and prepare for 30, I see myself really stepping into positions and roles where I will be meeting new people, creating new relationships, and growing in the relationship I am already in with my partner. We got some big plans and I can feel them nearing fruition 🤸🏿‍♀️ I cannot wait to be 30 flirty & thriving ✨
For the houses:
1st House Profection Year: This year emphasizes self-image, personal goals, and how others perceive you. It's a time for personal growth, self-discovery, and initiating new beginnings.
2nd House Profection Year: Financial matters, material possessions, and self-worth take precedence during this period. It's a time to focus on resources, investments, and building stability.
3rd House Profection Year: Communication, learning, and short trips become significant. Relationships with siblings, neighbors, and acquiring new skills are highlighted.
4th House Profection Year: Family, home life, and emotional security take center stage. This period is about roots, heritage, and creating a sense of inner stability.
5th House Profection Year: Creativity, self-expression, romance, and children are prominent themes. It's a time for joy, pursuing hobbies, and taking calculated risks.
6th House Profection Year: Health, work, routines, and service to others become focal points. Organizing, improving efficiency, and focusing on well-being are key.
7th House Profection Year: Partnerships, relationships, and collaborations are highlighted. It's a time for evaluating existing relationships and forming new alliances.
8th House Profection Year: Transformation, shared resources, and deeper emotional bonds take precedence. This period involves facing deeper psychological aspects and inheritance matters.
9th House Profection Year: Higher learning, travel, philosophy, and expanding horizons become important. It's a time for spiritual growth, education, and broadening perspectives.
10th House Profection Year: Career, public image, and ambitions are in focus. This period involves striving for recognition, taking on responsibilities, and professional advancement.
11th House Profection Year: Friends, groups, social causes, and aspirations take precedence. Networking, building connections, and contributing to the community are emphasized.
12th House Profection Year: Inner reflection, spiritual growth, solitude, and hidden matters come to the forefront. It's a time for retreat, introspection, and dealing with subconscious patterns.

Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no strife between you and me, between my herders and yours, for we are kin.
- Bereshit 13:8
This verse, which I will be chanting as part of my aliyah next week has been haunting me since October 7th. "Ki anashim achim anachnu" - because we are family.
I hate what's happening right now so much. I wish there were an answer as simple as just giving each other space, which is how Lot and Avram solve their issue here. If only.
There's a bracha that is in some bentchers near the end of birkat hamazon that prays for peace between the children of Hagar and the children of Sarah. I couldn't find it directly, but I found this drash, which has some words of wisdom from 2014 - as relevant today as ever:

PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH STARTERS
a collection of quotes, phrases, and sayings from the 2022 Dreamworks Animation film, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. change & alter as needed.
"Welcome! Mi casa es su casa!"
"Hey! This is a party! Where is the music?!"
"Thanks for everything, you know, but I am feeling great."
"Do you know a good place to get some gazpacho?"
"How many times have you died already?"
"My prescription: No more adventures for you. You need to retire."
"[Name], is there any safe place you can go? Any special someone you can rely on in this moment of need?"
"Remember, [name], death comes for us all."
"You've really got to work on your bedside manner."
"Oh, I keep the heavy stuff in the back."
"Hey, I never do this, but can I get your autograph? I've been following you for a long time."
"Everyone thinks they'll be the one to defeat me. But no one's escaped me yet."
"You're not living up to the legend, [name]."
"I am no longer worthy. I'm sorry."
"You're not from the health department, are you?"
"We'd better get you inside because, baby, they are always watching."
"So this is where dignity goes to die."
"I'm no expert, but you don't look like a [name]."
"Despite all this best-friend bonding, you're still a mystery to me, [name]."
"You think this is the first time I've been stuffed in a piano?!"
"If this [name] is such a big deal... maybe we shouldn't be desecrating his grave?"
"My home is where my friends are."
"Oh, no! I misjudged the situation!"
"It's like a possum crawled on your face and died! Of shame!"
"You said you were going on some spiritual retreat!"
"Hey, [name], I found a sandwich in here. I think it's tuna fish."
"We are not a team!"
"Nice try! Classic con! But no one's that dumb. No one's that nice. I don't trust you."
"Don't rush through it. Take your time, and really appreciate what's right in front of you."
"Don't be near where I'm flame-throwing!"
"I am a solo act. I keep my secrets, and I play my cards close. That's how you get a winning hand."
"Take it from me: Never trust anyone."
"What? What's so funny? Nothing should be funny!"
"You're not gonna shoot a puppy, are you, [name]?!"
"What's going on with you, [name]?"
"Maybe you should tell that to [name]. It might make you feel better. It might make her feel better, too."
"What you seek may be right in front of you."
"Well, that's a load of rubbish! What's that supposed to mean?!"
"If you wanted to hold my hand, all you had to do is ask."
"I knew I could never compete with your one true love — yourself."
"You don't seem like that guy anymore."
"You know, I'm starting to think you don't appreciate the value of a life."
"There's good in all people."
"You know, [name], maybe we need to dig a little deeper. Tell me about your childhood."
"Well, you know what they say: Can't bake a pie without losing a dozen men."
"You're horrible! You're an irredeemable monster!"
"You're not chatty, are you?"
"I wish I had a family like this."
"Speaking from one orphan to another, [name], you won the orphan lottery."
"I don't mean it metaphorically, or rhetorically, or poetically, or theoretically, or in any other fancy way."
"I'm getting a family, that's what! A proper family! And then everything will be just right!"
"I was always afraid it was too good to last."
"I can't believe I fell for it again."
"You want to know what my wish was? Someone, anyone, that I could trust. In my whole life, I've never had that. But I thought I finally found that someone without a wish. I thought it was you."
"I've been called a lot of things, but never death."
"I've enjoyed the chase, [name], but I think we've reached the end now, you and I."
"You've really got to stop losing that."
"Live your life, [name]. Live it well."
"I thought you were just being melodramatic."
"You deserve someone you can trust."
"It's so cute how you think that would work on me. Don't you know I'm dead inside?"
"By the way, your nose is bleeding."
"I hate to say it, but... should we make a wish?"
"[Name], one life spent with you is all that I could wish for."

Hiiii apple is it okay to ask for a bit of the sect leader fic? It’s so exciting to see the babies grown up lolol i can’t wait to read 🩵🩵
As the lovely person who gave me the fic idea, you absolutely can Koi-Koi 😘
I think you’ll like this part. It takes place 6 months after Jin Ling and Lan Jingyi officially become sect leaders and Lan Sizhui leaves to travel and cultivate with Wen Ning.
However, Lan Sizhui never contacts either of them after promising to keep in touch and the only information they’ve received about his wellbeing has been from Hanguang-Jun, who simply says, “He’s fine” every time they ask.
So Jin Ling pesters Lan Jingyi to play Inquiry because he’s afraid something bad has happened to Lan Sizhui.
“Can’t you just trust Hanguang-Jun?”
“I need to know for myself.”
Lan Jingyi sighed and sat cross legged on the ground, setting his guqin over his lap. The quiet sounds of the forest and the chill of the night air made him feel lonely, despite Jin Ling nervously pacing back and forth beside him. “You do realize you’re basically asking me to contact my best friend as if he’s dead, right?”
Jin Ling stopped pacing and frowned. “I don’t like it any better than you do which is why I’d rather rule out the possibility.”
“Hanguang-Jun wouldn’t lie,” Lan Jingyi countered.
“And he also has no way of knowing where Sizhui is every minute of every day.” Jin Ling hugged himself as a cold breeze rushed past him, his mind wandering to the memory of Lan Sizhui disappearing into the horizon when his boat left the docks of Jinlintai. “A lot can happen in a minute.”
“Fine,” said Lan Jingyi, “But I’m doing all the talking whether it’s Sizhui or not. Last thing we need is you scaring off spirits with your attitude.”
Jin Ling rolled his eyes and plopped down next to him, keeping his arms crossed and his nose upturned. “Whatever. Let’s just get it over with already.”
Lan Jingyi took a deep breath before plucking the notes of Inquiry on his guqin. Though his spiritual energy was nowhere near as strong as Hanguang-Jun’s, his guqin language had come quite a long way in his short six months as a sect leader.
As the world around them ignited in glowing hues of teal and ghostly blue, Jin Ling stared intensely at the guqin’s strings, almost willing them to stay silent. He knew the best response would be no response at all, so he genuinely hoped nothing would come of this night.
“Okay,” Lan Jingyi said. “Time to start aski—“
The guqin’s strings hummed involuntarily, the notes sounding both determined and desperate. Tendrils of spiritual energy reached out like waiting arms to Jin Ling who stumbled back in shock. The tendrils soon retreated back to the guqin, not strong enough to pursue him.
“What—why is it doing that?” Jin Ling’s eyes darted around, looking equally perplexed and mortified.
More notes rang from the guqin and Lan Jingyi furrowed his brow at Jin Ling. “Don’t be scared,” he translated. “They’re talking directly to you.” He’d never encountered such an intensely talkative spirit before. Whoever it was seemed insistent on speaking to Jin Ling.
“Could… could it be…” Jin Ling frowned, wondering if they’d made contact with one of his late family members instead.
Lan Jingyi seized a quiet moment between the spirit’s contact to ask quick, basic questions: are you male or female? Male. How old are you? Twenty. Are you a relative? No. Are you a friend? Yes. Where are you? Too far. I can’t reach you.
When Lan Jingyi translated the last question’s answer, Jin Ling’s mind was invaded by a flashback of his recurring dream—Lan Sizhui bleeding from his qiqiao, eyes plagued with horror while saying, I can’t reach you over and over.
Jin Ling almost fell over scrambling towards the guqin. “Sizhui?!”
Lan Jingyi protectively held his arms over his guqin’s strings the second he saw Jin Ling reaching for them. “Are you insane?! Don’t touch them in the middle of Inquiry, you’ll mess it up!”
A weak but willful tendril of spiritual energy gently snaked its way around Jin Ling’s hand and through his fingers before disappearing into the night air. Soon, all of the spiritual energy around them absorbed into the earth and the guqin fell silent.
Jin Ling’s face hovered above the guqin’s strings, lips trembling and eyes wide, glazed with oncoming tears. “Bring him back,” he whispered hoarsely. He narrowed his eyes and lunged at Lan Jingyi, aggressively grabbing him by his robe’s lapels. “Bring him back!”
Lan Jingyi grimaced and clutched Jin Ling’s wrists, ripping his hands away from him. “Will you calm down?! We don’t even know if that was him!”
“It was!” Jin Ling finally broke into tears. “It was him, Jingyi, I know it was! You need… you need to bring him back. Play Inquiry again and bring him back!”
“I can’t! If it was him, he’s the one who broke communication! Spiritual energy can only last so long, do so much. If I try to bring him back now, he’ll be too weak to communicate—“
“Then what’s the point?!” Jin Ling drove his fist into the ground with enough force to make a small crater in the dirt. His hair fell into his face and his entire body quaked with a mess of complicated emotions.
Lan Jingyi frowned and sat up straight, slowly covering his guqin in its cloth. “Look… I know it’s frustrating but we can’t force this. We need to give ourselves—we need to give him a break. We can try again tomorrow, okay?”
Jin Ling stayed silent for a moment longer. He wiped his face with his sleeve then pushed himself to his feet, too exhausted by his outburst to argue. “Fine.”
Lan Jingyi watched him turn and walk away without another word, leaving him alone in the woods with his guqin and a few remnants of spiritual energy flickering on the ground. He looked down at his guqin and furrowed his brows. “You’re not dead,” he whispered. “I know you aren’t. So don’t mess around next time.”
Lan Jingyi tucked his guqin under his arm as he rose to his feet and took one last glance at the fading energy peppering the earth’s soil. “You left me too, remember?”
Lan Sizhui opened his mouth to call his name but he had no voice to call him with. Lan Jingyi was nothing but a silhouette in a thick haze that turned and disappeared, leaving Lan Sizhui surrounded by a never ending, impenetrable fog.
Finally, the last of his energy depleted and broke him out of his dreamlike state. Lan Sizhui was pummeled back into reality, lying on the cold damp floor of a cave surrounded by a magical cage. He was too weak to sit up but he knew he’d be free soon. He just had to hold on a bit longer.
“I’m sorry.”

Cap-IM Rec Week - Hidden Gems Saturday
Day 6 of @cap-ironman's rec week event!
Everything on this list has fewer than 200 kudos, which is some sort of crime.
Falling Backwards (Till it Turns Me Inside Out) by Aeraneth (@aeranethwrites) (MCU | Teen And Up Audiences | Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings | 5,706 words)
Summary: It’s Nomad against the Avengers, a Hydra patch on his shoulder, a gun pointed at Iron Man’s head, and a doomsday machine running down the clock behind him. He’s the only one standing in the way of them saving the world. Steve doesn’t know how he got here.
blue oleander by starvels (dinosaur) (@starvels) (Ults | Mature | Graphic Depictions Of Violence | 3,136 words)
Summary: It's been seven years since Earth was destroyed. What remains of humanity, of the superhero community, is on a ship, half-lost in the deep of space. But they're not alone. And what crawls through the portals in the aft cargo bay, day after day, is about as human as Steve feels anymore.
near-death cliché by meidui (MCU | Teen And Up Audiences | No Archive Warnings Apply | 860 words)
Summary: Tony doesn’t know how long he's been trapped here in the quantum realm, with no companionship except this man with long scars running parallel down the sides of his face.
More below the cut!

Glass Gardens (The Witching Hour Remix) by Woad (616 | Mature | Graphic Depictions Of Violence | 18,692 words)
Summary: The year is 1883. Spiritualism is at an all-time high, "taking the waters" is a popular cure-for-what-ails-you, and sanitariums offer retreats to restore the health. When Tony is shipped off to one, he is convinced his stay will be an utter waste of time. That is, until things take a disastrous turn, and Tony begins to doubt everything about himself.
shield your eyes (if you have eyes) by swtalmnd (@amysnotdeadyet) (MCU | Explicit | No Archive Warnings Apply | 400 words)
Summary: Captain America's shield is a noble, beautiful object that has been used for a lot of things. And now this. It is displeased with this.
Affliction of the Feeling by lomku (@oluka) (MCU | Explicit | No Archive Warnings Apply | 4,348 words)
Summary: “I’m going to hurt you, Captain. Really hurt you. You’ll be begging when I’m done with you.” or: Tony decides to whip Steve. Steve likes it more than expected.

Astro Observations Part 6
Tumblr media
💛The zodiac sign in your 9th house I feel indicates the type of teacher you like to learn from
I have Aries in the 9th and I’ve noticed people I learn from are younger than me Hahah. It’s just their perception is so refreshing and different. I believe there are old souls in young bodies. Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you know everything. I love learning from older people too but I’ve noticed I talk to the young crowd most.
💛The zodiac sign in your 8th I feel is the person you resonate with in regards to the occult (astrologer or tarot reader) my fav tarot readers on YT for example are Pisces. I believe I read that from another observation (I can’t remember who so I’m so sorry I can’t credit 😭 but not my original observation) but it’s true for me!
💛The zodiac sign your Venus or Mars is transiting in I feel indicates the type of man/woman you meet at that time and where. Now typically although Mars rules men and Venus women then but I feel since Venus represents love & relationships then I think that Might be more accurate!
Tumblr media
Example: when I met a guy I dated who impacted me greatly Mars was in Sagittarius but Venus was in Capricorn in my 6th. What does Capricorn represent? Older male, authority figure, work and the man I was dating…he’s older, has his own company, and he’s an Aquarius which is traditionally ruled by Saturn who also rules Capricorn. But if we go by the energy/dynamic of mars with it being in Sagittarius and transiting my 5th house then I don’t think it would’ve lasted if it got serious. Also other guys who were going after me were younger and careless and wanted something short term. ✨Second example: I met another guy who impacted me greatly and Venus was in Aquarius in the 7th and Mars was in Taurus in the 10th. Aquarius represents the internet, unconventional, individuality and he’s an Aquarius rising and we met online. I don’t think I was talking to anyone else.
These are my personal interpretations and based on experience & observations!
⭐️Venus/Mars in Aries/1st: someone younger, confident, passionate, flirty, might want something short term, probably at the gym , outside or at a sports event
⭐️Venus/Mars in Taurus/2nd: someone all around stable, respectful, takes things slow, knows the best places to dine, romantic, at the bank, works in the arts, culinary, or finance
⭐️Venus/Mars in Gemini/3rd: at school, through your siblings/cousins, while on a short getaway trip, someone either younger or they have a youthful aura, someone talkative and flirty.
⭐️Venus/ Mars in Cancer/4th: at your home area, through your family (mom), at the beach or anywhere near water, someone nurturing, probably can cook, at a real estate opening (open house), someone romantic
⭐️Venus/Mars in Leo/5th: someone fun, confident, a performer, at a concert, romantic, at the park or maybe day care center (if you have kids)
⭐️Venus/Mars in Virgo/6th: at your work, at the gym, at the vet, someone reserved, polite, analytical, someone fit, will take their sweet time with you
⭐️Venus/Mars in Libra/7th: at a spa, museum, jury duty or a legal office, through your partnerships, someone flirty, someone romantic, charming, diplomatic, makes you feel 🥰 could ghost you also if your intentions & feelings aren’t reciprocated
⭐️Venus/Mars in Scorpio/8th: through a hookup/one night stand, through therapy, through an esoteric occult meet up, someone mysterious, sexy, alluring, private, dark and twisted (in a sexy way! Haha)
⭐️Venus/Mars in Sagittarius/9th: in another country, a foreign event, university, church, a spiritual retreat, a motivational speaker event, they could be your teacher, a life coach, they’re inspiring, fun, adventurous, might wanna keep it casual
⭐️Venus/ Mars in Capricorn/10th: at your work, public event, through your coworkers, they could be your boss, someone older, mature, wealthy, ambitious, but will also take it slow
⭐️Venus/ Mars in Aquarius/11th: on the internet, dating app, through your friends, through volunteering, through a tech event, someone different, intelligent, a nerd, independent and wants their space and spend time with you as friends; might ghost you or friend zone you
⭐️Venus/ Mars in Pisces/12th: someone spiritual, at a spiritual retreat, esoteric or occult meetup, near the water, someone mysterious, compassionate, someone who’ll put you on a pedestal, troubled past, a healer, someone who’ll make you feel like it’s a beautiful fantasy, could also disappear when they wake up to reality
I could be wrong, this is an observation but please let me know!
Love her page! 👇🏽
“𝖢𝗁𝖾𝖼𝗄 𝗒𝗈𝗎𝗋 𝖶𝖤𝖡𝖡 𝖠𝖲𝖳𝖤𝖱𝖮𝖨𝖣 𝖯𝖤𝖱𝖲𝖮𝖭𝖠 𝖢𝖧𝖠𝖱𝖳 𝗍𝗁𝗂𝗌 𝖼𝗁𝖺𝗋𝗍 𝗌𝗁𝗈𝗐𝗌 𝗁𝗈𝗐 𝗉𝖾𝗈𝗉𝗅𝖾 𝗉𝖾𝗋𝖼𝖾𝗂𝗏𝖾 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝗈𝗇𝗅𝗂𝗇𝖾 @factsrological”
My followers on my Instagram are mainly international (from Turkey & Italy)
I have a Sagittarius ascendant in the 1st in my webb persona so I’m assuming they see me as a foreigner as well as motivating and passionate which is true. In my natal Venus is in Aquarius so it’s all online and in my 7th so I have a relationship with my followers because I interact and engage with them.
This is honestly my interpretation for my own chart. Let me know yours if you check!

Near the end hours, I met with the vocation directoress. I had an opportunity to ask all the questions on my double sided paper I made earlier in the week despite a crunch in time. We spoke of the current state of my vocation and made clarification as to why I cannot enter at this exact moment. I’m glad we had that discussion. I gave an update how everything is working smoothly so far in plane to head to that finish line. (I had to explain this to my spiritual director too weeks ago.) so now we have an official estimate for time when it will be. Since I must patiently wait, I will continue to grow in all I can at this by the grace of God. I have been invited back to another one-day visit! I have also be invited to the next retreat which date has changed.
If my obstacle was not in the way, they said they would want me right this moment!

Mmmmmmmmm delicious idea - LQG voluntarily going to bingqiu for ahem medical treatment???? Will savor the thought 🙏👀🔥🔥SQQ's brain exploding while gently raising fan to face and saying, of course we are willing to help, shidi *silent screaming*
just for u, anon- laid to rest sequel opening bits:
Luo Binghe senses the approach of turbulent spiritual energy long before the knock on the door comes. His scowl deepens; obviously he won't shy away from answering the door while his shizun is off peak, but he doesn't like the nerve of whoever this is- flying straight to Shen Qingqiu's home like they have the right to demand an audience.
He wrenches the door open, expression smoothed into flat professionalism, just in time to catch the white-clad arm that falls, open-palmed and weak, through the doorway. The source of unknown, riotous spiritual energy is leaning heavily on the door frame, eyes closed and chest rising and falling in gasps.
"Liu Qingge?" Luo Binghe says, startled into breaking his mask of politeness. Liu Qingge opens his eyes, lips parted and face dark with a furious flush; his arm hangs, limp, in Luo Binghe's grasp. "What's wrong with you?"
Luo Binghe slides his fingers under the loose circle of white on Liu Qingge's wrist, wrapping around his pulse as he awakens the blood parasites inside him. He'd let them go dormant over the past year, ever since that first explosive coupling; Liu Qingge hadn't evidenced any interest in retreating the experiment, despite Shen Qingqiu's obvious… curiosity. Now, he finds Liu Qingge's body burning hot, flooded with chemicals that are…
Ah.
"You said to come to you," Liu Qingge grits out, not answering the question. Luo Binghe's body goes a little bit hot, warm pleasure rising to his cheeks.
"So you came here?" he says, frowning despite his internal satisfaction. He adjusts his grip to support Liu Qingge's weight. "When were you poisoned?"
"I don't know. I flew," Liu Qingge says vaguely, head lolling to the side to rest against the door frame again. There's a long pause, as he seems to consider the question. "Last night."
"Shishu," Luo Binghe says, stepping closer and placing a cautious hand on Liu Qingge's waist. It's warm, even through his robes; Liu Qingge's lips part on a sharp inhale. "It's midday. You traveled like this?"
"You said-" Liu Qingge says, rolling his head against the doorframe. Possessive warmth rises in Luo Binghe's body. The sharp corner of the wood can't be comfortable.
"Come inside," he says, wrapping his arm around Liu Qingge's waist in preparation to support his weight. When he guides Liu Qingge away from the lintel he stumbles, as expected; Luo Binghe pulls him into his chest, skin prickling all over at the smell of his hair. It's warm and elegant, reminiscent of when they…
Liu Qingge moans as Luo Binghe's hand rubs at his side.
"You came here for us to take care of you?" Luo Binghe says, gently closing the door behind them. "Shizun's not here, though. What do you want to do?"
"You-" Liu Qingge gets out, opening his eyes to look up at Luo Binghe.
The expression on his face is so unfamiliar it freezes Luo Binghe in place. Even when they… assisted Liu Qingge, before, there was always an edge of sharpness to his expression; a wariness, an attempt to hold back. This Liu Qingge is hazy-eyed, so flushed he looks unwell. The red extends all the way down his neck under his robes, and his hands are clinging to Luo Binghe's clothing as if in supplication. His breathing is unever; his spiritual energy is wildly out of control.
"You need it, don't you?" Luo Binghe says quietly, pulling Liu Qingge a little more firmly against himself. Liu Qingge shudders, body pressing itself closer as his long eyelashes flutter, face so near to Luo Binghe's. "What do you think? It's just me here. Can you stand to take it without shizun to distract you?"
Liu Qingge's back arches as Luo Binghe's fingers drag up it, pressing his hips forward into Luo Binghe's body; he drops his head to Luo Binghe's shoulder, leaning his temple against Luo Binghe's neck as he pants. Embers of heat flare in Luo Binghe at the press of his hot skin, his uneven breaths.
"Just-" Liu Qingge begins, and Luo Binghe doesn't make him say more; with no further words spoken, he pushes Liu Qingge down onto the daybed.

Ok SO- I had a thought.
In “The Beat Goes On,” when they’re trying to become Archer Pastry’s friends, Branch mentions that Creek always misses his shift.
Archer’s race, Party Crashers, (btw is there another name for the actual species? Party Crashers just sounds like something Bash came up with…) are said by Archer to be distant cousins of the Bergens. It’s probably common knowledge around Pop Village at this point.
So with Creek, I honestly thought they missed an opportunity to have them bond over being traitors and confiding in how guilty they were.
But no, Creek apparently goes out of his way to AVOID Archer. Making up spiritual retreats and such. So what if he was avoiding Archer simply because of the relation to Bergens?
I don’t think Creek has interacted with ANY Bergens in the show. (I could be wrong, I haven’t watched all the seasons) It would make sense for him to avoid them considering his trauma.
So now I need Branch getting fed up with Creek and dragging him into the Fun Prison. Him snapping at Creek that they were going to be friends with Archer weather he likes it or not.
I need Creek avoiding eye contact, I need him desperately trying to keep his cool-guy persona. I need him eventually going all, “are you actually related to the Bergens?” Then when Archer says yes Creek gets more fidgety. Maybe Branch notices and goes all, “what is wrong with you?” Then Creek would snap.
“Well EXCUSE ME for not being enthusiastic about being near anything Bergen-related! THEY NEARLY ATE ME! THEY MADE ME BETRAY ALL OF YOU! WHY CAN’T YOU JUST DROP THIS!?”
Silence. Creek trying to backtrack. He eventually runs out.

13th December >> Fr. Martin's Gospel Reflections / Homilies on Matthew 11:28-30 for Wednesday, Second Week of Advent (B): ‘My yoke is easy and my burden light’.
Wednesday, Second Week of Advent
Gospel (Except USA) Matthew 11:28-30 My yoke is easy and my burden light.
Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’
Gospel (USA) Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who labor.
Jesus said to the crowds: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
Reflections (6)
(i) Wednesday, Second Week of Advent
We can all grow tired and weary, especially as we get older. We sense that our physical energy levels are not what they were. We may feel the need for a nap in the afternoon. According to the first reading, even ‘young men may grow tired and weary, youths may stumble’. The weariness in question there may not be so much a physical weariness but a weariness of spirit. We can suffer from a weariness of spirit at any age. We struggle to get up and go, to invest ourselves in the task at hand, to give of ourselves to others. Physically we may be strong, but there is a lethargy about us. It is part of the human condition. That first reading suggests it is not part of God’s condition, ‘He does not grow tired or weary’. The Lord is always actively engaged with us. He is always coming towards us. We pray the simple prayer during Advent, ‘Come, Lord Jesus’, a prayer that recognizes that the Lord is always on the way towards us. The Lord never retreats into himself in a kind of weariness of spirit. He is always fully alive, vibrant, dynamic. In the gospel reading, he invites us to come to him in our weariness of spirit and draw life from his presence to us, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest’. The word ‘rest’ there refers not so much to inactivity but, rather, revival and renewal. This is the rest referred to in the Psalm, ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’ - ‘Near restful waters he leads me to revive my drooping spirit’. Each day, in prayer, we can turn to the Lord in our weariness of spirit and open ourselves to his reviving presence. When we turn to the Lord in hopeful trust, the promise at the end of today’s first reading can come to pass for us, ‘those who hope in the Lord renew their strength; they put out wings like the eagles’. The Lord comes to revive our drooping spirits, so that we, in turn, can be a reviving presence for others whose spirits are low.

(ii) Wednesday, Second Week of Advent
We often associate weariness with advancing years. However, the first reading this morning declares that ‘young men may grow tired and weary’. Even those in their prime may grow tired and weary. What is true for those in their prime is certainly true for the rest of us. We can all grow tired and weary for various reasons. Physical weariness is the easiest to deal with. Very often a good night’s sleep will deal with that kind of tiredness. Weariness of heart and of spirit can be more difficult to deal with. A good night’s sleep will not necessarily deal with emotional or spiritual weariness. This is the kind of weariness which leaves us lacking in any kind of hopeful energy. It can be brought on by many things, such as persistent criticism, failure, be it personal or communal, a negativity that prevails about church and state, putting effort into something that seems to lead nowhere. The first reading also declares that even though young men may grow tired and weary, the Lord does not grow tired or weary. The Lord remains full of life, because he is life itself. Our communion with the Lord of life can bring life to our declining spirits and strength to our weariness. That is why, in the gospel reading, Jesus calls on those who labour and are overburdened to come to him and promises them rest for their souls and spirits. In Advent we call on Jesus to come to us, ‘Maranatha, Come Lord’. Today’s readings remind us that the Lord also calls on us to come to him, so as to draw strength from his strength and life from his life.

(iii) Wednesday, Second Week of Advent
There is a close correspondence between the image of God in the first reading and the image of Jesus in the gospel reading. In the first reading God speaks of himself as someone who never grows tired or weary and, because of that, can give strength to the wearied and strengthen the powerless. In the gospel reading Jesus speaks of himself as someone who gives rest to those who labour and are overburdened. As a result, he calls on all those who labour and are overburdened to come to him. The message of both readings is that the Lord has a special ministry to those who are tired and weary, to those who are labouring and weighed down by burdens of one kind or another. The end of that first reading says, ‘Young men may grow tired and weary; youths may stumble’. How much more is that the case with those of us who no longer quite qualify as young men or women. We can easily grow tired and weary, including growing tired and weary of serving others. The reading declares that ‘those who hope in the Lord renew their strength, they put our wings like eagles’. We need to keep drawing on the Lord’s strength if we are to give his strength to others. At the heart of our relationship with those you serve is our own relationship with the Lord. Advent is a good season to come before the Lord in our weakness, perhaps in our tiredness, and to ask him to fill us with his strength, so that we can be channels of his life-giving strength to others, especially to those who are overburdened.

(iv) Wednesday, Second week of Advent
The first reading declares that ‘young men may grow tired and weary’. We know from experience that it is not only young men who can grow tired and weary. We can all grow tired and weary. Tiredness and weariness comes to us all from time to time. Indeed, in the words of the gospel reading, we can find ourselves labouring and feeling overburdened. The run-up to Christmas can have that effect on people. Other, more traumatic experiences in life can leave us feeling tired and weary, labouring and overburdened. That first reading also declares that the Lord ‘does not grow tired or weary’. Because he does not grow tired or weary, he calls out to those who are tired and weary, inviting them to come to him, and promising them rest. The Lord can be our strength when we are weak, our rest when we are tired, our support when we are burdened. The great Advent prayer is our invitation, ‘Come, Lord, Jesus’. However, in the gospel reading, it is the Lord who invites us to come. His call to us is prior to our prayer to him. When in responding to that call of the Lord we experience him as our strength, our rest, our support, we, in turn, can be a source of strength, rest and support to each other. The strength we receive from the Lord is for others as well as for ourselves.
And/Or
(v) Wednesday, Second Week of Advent
We tend to associate advancing years with declining energy. As we get older, we don’t always have the energy we once had, and this can a source of frustration for us. Yet, today’s first reading from Isaiah acknowledges that even ‘young men may grow tired and weary’, and that even ‘youths may stumble’. There is such a thing as a weariness of the spirit, which can affect people at any age. Some young people can seem listless, whereas some older people can be full of vitality. Isaiah declares in that reading that the Lord is the one who alone can address and deal with this kind of weariness of spirit. ‘He gives strength to the wearied, he strengthens the powerless’. The Lord does not grow tired or weary. He is the Lord of life who remains vibrant at all times. By turning towards him in our weakness and weariness we can imbibe some of his perennial strength and vitality. In the words of Isaiah, ‘those who hope in the Lord renew their strength’. This is the promise that Jesus makes in the gospel reading, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest’. There is much in life that can deaden our spirit, at any age. It is the Lord, and our relationship with him, that can keep us young and vital even in old age. The Lord comes to us as strength in our weakness, as vitality in our weariness, as hope in our despondency. What is asked of us is that we welcome his coming and be attentive to his presence to us.
And/Or
(vi) Wednesday, Second Week of Advent
We are in the season of Advent and the prayer we often pray in Advent is, ‘Come, Lord Jesus’. Advent is a season when we try to open our lives more fully to the coming of the Lord. We call on him to ‘come’ into our hearts, minds and lives. In today’s gospel reading, however, it is Jesus who calls on us to come to him, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest’. There are always those two movements in the lives of people of faith. We invite the Lord to come to us and we try to respond to the Lord’s call to come to him. The primary element in that two fold movement is the Lord’s call to us to come. He calls us to come before we call on him to come. He has loved us before we have loved him. The call of Jesus in today’s gospel reading is a very personal call, ‘Come to me’. He doesn’t say come to my teaching or come to my followers, but, ‘come to me’. That personal call of the Lord is addressed to each one of us without exception. Jesus also makes a promise to those who respond to his call to come to him, ‘I will give you rest’. What is Jesus promising there? We sometimes think of rest as the absence of activity. However, in the bible, ‘rest’ suggests the refreshing break that travellers in a barren desert would find in some oasis they come across. In that sense, ‘rest’ is a revival or renewal of our body and spirit. ‘Rest’ in that sense is more akin to ‘strength’. In the first reading, the prophet says that the Lord ‘gives strength to the wearied’. We can all become wearied in body, mind and spirit, especially in these Covid times. In the gospel reading Jesus promises restful strength to those who come to him. In the lovely image of the first reading, ‘those who hope in the Lord renew their strength, they put wings like the eagles’. This Advent we ask the Lord for such wings!

My wife and I got married in the Hamptons of Cleveland, a small gated community an hour south of Buffalo called the Chautauqua Institution. A year later, steps from where we had danced to a Beatles cover band, someone stabbed Salman Rushdie.
I worry Chautauqua will be known for that attack someday. When I tell a friend where we were married, will I see their face change in subtle recognition? Will it become like saying you went to Columbine High School but graduated years before the shooting?
Probably not. The Chautauqua lore is so rich that it’s unlikely to be known for any single event. It’s been praised by the New York Times for being a spiritually and intellectually satisfying retreat, and bashed in the New York Times for its Boys’ and Girls’ Club, the oldest children’s day camp in the country, one that still separates the sexes.
“Chautauquas,” according to the first few pages of Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance once littered the United States. Intellectuals toured the country giving lectures during the Lyceum Movement, an experiment in adult education for the masses. Chautauqua, New York was the flagship community and is also one of the few Chautauquas that has survived.
An entire page of my sophomore American History textbook was devoted to Chautauqua. Writers, politicians, comedians, and essayists all traveled on the lyceum circuit to get their message out to the world. William Jennings Bryan was likely the most exciting speaker, a man who I first heard about in the play Our Town where the Stage Manager excitedly tells the audience that “Bryan once made a speech from these very steps here.” Thanks to my family’s yearly vacations in Chautauqua, I too had seen some steps where Bryan had once made a speech. Exciting stuff. I was walking through a page of my history textbook every summer.
Though I knew the place was somewhat famous, Chautauqua’s history often seemed embellished. Once, a nice white-haired lady walking past me on the road, unprompted, pointed at a patch of grass beyond the institution’s fence and said “You know, Amelia Earhart landed her plane on that golf course once.” Sure she did, lady. Then a few days later, I’d found myself in the Chautauqua library staring at a giant black-and-white photo of Amelia Earhart standing on the Chautauqua golf course. It’s near a few photos of FDR in front of the Chautauqua Opera House.
It’s difficult to describe Chautauqua to the uninitiated. I happily let my wife describe it for others whenever the subject comes up: “It’s the set of Dirty Dancing.” Aside from the fact that it’s not in the Catskills and the spirit of the place is a little more centered on intellectual/spiritual edification, it is exactly like the set of Dirty Dancing, complete with a treelined lake, an enormous hotel, and a house full of actors and dancers at one end of the grounds who let loose, partying every night to the wee hours (10 PM) when everything in the Institution closes and strict quiet hours are enforced. Women can even take Ballroom Dance classes with young men, though I get the sense that both parties are a little more puritanical than Swayze and his students. Unfortunately, also like the movie, thanks to a few speakers from the Heritage Foundation, there are also several Chautauquans who like Ayn Rand.
For the kids who grew up going to Chautauqua every summer, it was a giant playground. We went during Week Five of the season consistently and became fast friends with anyone our age. Boys’ and Girls’ Club hours went from 9 AM to noon, and from 2 PM to 4 PM so parents could attend talks or a pottery class while the kids were playing dodgeball and rehearsing for Air Band (a lip-syncing competition for all club attendees). Because the Institution is safe compared to nearly every place people visit from, the kids roam free. They have carte blanche to do whatever they please during daylight hours. We biked, ate mountains of ice cream, or played ping pong for hours when we weren’t at club playing GaGa Ball, a game where you hunched over and used your hands to hit your opponents’ ankles with a volleyball.
