Sexuality/Gender Headcannons for Pokemon Shield Characters:

*This kind of devolves into some ships I like towards the Leon/Raihan section, so let me know if you'd like to see some specific content for them.

*I'd love to hear your theories/headcannons in reblogs or the comments!

Gym Leaders

Milo

Has only ever dated women, but would be open to dating men

Homoflexible or Pansexual mayhaps?

Once someone explained what Demisexual means he realized that it clicked with him

He/Him pronouns

Does his best to remember people's pronouns

Occasionally wears a He/Him pronoun pin that Kabu got him

(probably wrote a list somewhere so he wouldn't forget)

Profusely apologizes if he gets them wrong (not in a fake ally kind of way)

Nessa

She gives me mean bisexual vibes and I won't be elaborating as to why

(It's probably because she could step on me and I'd thank her BUT I DIGRESS ANYWAY)

She/Her?

Doesn't mind They/Them but she doesn't hear them much so she doesn't think about it

Bisexual w/a preference for women

Will scream at someone who misgenders her friends/partner

Straight

ONE OF THE FIERCEST ALLIES YOU WILL EVER MEET

Would start an organization among the gym leaders to encourage conversations about gender/sexuality in a safe space

He's the guy at pride wearing a "Free Dad Hugs" tshirt

(He cried when he got the shirt as a gift from one of the other gym trainers he works with)

A very easy person to come out to, and is extremely supportive

He goes all out for pride in terms of his outfit, and will post about it on social media

Avery

Definately nonbinary to some degree, maybe genderfluid?

His time at the dojo gave him time away from his family to learn more about himself and who he wants to be; Not who his family wants him to be.

Mans is literally decked out in rainbows on a daily basis; C'mon now.

A concept I thought of:

Rando: Gender is whats in your pants.

(I've seen some people headcannon him as a Trans man, which isn't something I've thought about but I could see it tbh)

I think he just loves people as they are, so gender wouldn't matter too much to him

Panromantic demisexual

Helps Kabu run a pride organization, and keeps him updated on what's going on in the LGBT+ community

Leon

He/Him pronouns

Thinks he's straight for a long time

Mostly because of his job as champion, he never really had the time to do a deep dive into his sexuality. He also didn't want to think otherwise out of fear that it would ruin his reputation.

He gets a lil too tipsy one night w/Raihan and starts seeing him in a different light for the first time.

(Well, the first time that he's willing to admit to.)

Like, damn. Has his eyes always been that bright? Or has his smile always made Leon's heart beat out of his chest? What the hell is going on?

Turns out he'd been thinking out loud, and Raihan explained to him that he might be bisexual or pansexual. (While also jokingly saying something like, "How could you not be attracted to me.")

This took a huge weight off Leon's chest and helped him be more comfortable exploring his sexuality

Later figures out that he identifies as bi

Hop is the first person he comes out to officially (and they both cry.... a lot.)

Sonia

She/Her

(She figured out she was bi when she was a younger teenager)

(That may or may not have been when she realized that she was VERYYY gay for Nessa)

regarding Piers and Dynamaxing: it's implied in-game that Rose wanted Piers to move the dark gym to a town with a Dynamax spot, and when Piers refused he started making things economically difficult for Spikemuth (parallel to real life industrial towns in the north of england). so it's a mixture of spite, pride AND the fact that Dynamaxing is contra to the strengths of the dark-type itself, which rely on tactics and cunning

You know I completely forgot about the whole "dark types mostly rely on tactics and cunning strategy",which would be a valid reason to not wanting to use dynamaxing.

I had to reread your ask anon cause I thought you were implying that Piers was the one that led Spikemuth down it's current state. Then I reread it and "he" was Rose, whoops. But yes!!! I totally agree with that. Cause honestly, from my very little knowledge on how all of this shit works, moving to a power spot would make things worse. Yes, the advertisement from dynamaxing would be helpful, but the process of moving( either just the dark type gym or the entirety of Spikemuth) is costly,and given how Spikemuth was already in a state before Piers became a gym leader. So unless Rose offered to pay for everything ( and honestly, he might have,I don't think he would be that cruel), Spikemuth could have had to pay for the move. There's also the fact that it's implied that Piers raised Marnie on his own, no mention of either parents. Too move a gym away from Spikemuth means that Piers would be away from Marnie and that's obviously a big no for him.

Want to know something interesting? Spikemuth only sponsor is themselves. Literally just the Spikemuth Chamber of Commerce, that's literally it. Everyone else has multiple sponsors to their gym, most of them being sponsored by Macros Cosmos, Rose's company. So yeah, Rose making things economically difficult for Spikemuth is definitely a possibility. Like even if they refuse to move, you could have at least sponsored them. I will say that maybe Piers denied sponsors too, but even then there's other possibilities here.

So yeah, Piers' refusal to use dynamaxing is a mix of spite and pride. I do wish, if they were reasons to not use dynamaxing related to the pokemon ( which there seems to be but never explained), I wish the games would expand on it more. Cause you can be cunning with your dynamaxing. Sure it's a power boost, but you can be smart about it ( maybe that's what Marnie aims to showcase). In general, I wish there was just more to this plotline, rather than going off implications.

...Does it cause any tension between you two that Marnie likes to dynamax but Piers doesn't?

Hmm I s'pose it did a bit at first, only cuz Spikemuth is missin' a powerspot, but we came to a bit of a solution.

Durin' gym battles, Marnie won't be able to dynamax, cuz of where our gym is at, but durin' Battle Tower or the Champion Cups, she definitely can because they're usually in Wyndon. (Although she has been offered, by Leon and Raihan, to hold gym battles in Hammerlocke, but she wants t'stay in Spikemuth to show off her pride for our city.)

Honestly? Even if I don' like it, she does, an' tha's fine with me. M'just glad she's havin' fun and passionate 'bout bein' a gym leader. Her happiness is all that matters t'me really.

WIP Wednesday

Take this WIP I have starting off Chapter 11 of The Sun, The Devil and The Hanged Man. I’ve been meaning to write a bit more for it since it’s been a while since my last update, so this should hopefully give me some incentive to write some more!

This is it; the final round of the Galarian Star Tournament. It’s the last match of the day, with the crowd now on the edge of their seat to see who will come out on top. To no one’s surprise, the battle is between Hop and Gloria’s team against Leon and Raihan’s team; but to determine who will win overall is a difficult feat in itself. With the four of them being among the toughest Pokemon Trainers in Galar, who’s to say the battle won’t end in a draw?

In Piers’ honest opinion, it is more likely that the young kids will defeat Leon and Raihan, with them having two Legendary Pokemon on their side and much more power than the former Champion and Hammerlocke Gym Leader combined. Also they’re just, like, ridiculously strong in general. Regardless of who wins, however, the fight is sure to be an electrifying one. Even now, Piers is leaning over the railing of the stadium section the Gym Leaders and other competitors are housed in overlooking the pitch, with Marnie on his left seeming just as eager and excited as he is. She somehow managed to acquire one of Team Yell's horns, which she was blowing loudly only minutes ago in conjunction with the rest of Team Yell across the stadium. Despite the assault on his eardrums, the former Spikemuth Gym Leader can only beam with pride for his town and his younger sister; they've always known how to rile up a crowd.

Focus is once again drawn to the pitch as the final two pairs of Trainers make their way to the center, screams echoing around them as they come to face one another. Cameras focus on Raihan first, the dragon tamer giving one of his signature toothy grins that leaves fangirls swooning in the audience. Piers, meanwhile, simply rolls his eyes, far too used to Raihan’s eccentrics to be phased by such a sight.

With the cameras focusing on the other Trainers, the crowd of Wyndon Stadium awaits in baited breath for when the first Pokeball will be thrown.

“Ready…fight!”

Bio: Growing up in Spikemuth means growing up poor and hardening early. Piers has the soul of a poet, but the rough exterior comes from a lonely upbringing, raising Marnie on his own, and fighting tooth and nail for everything he has. He is now a national icon (maybe international—who knows?) with a gym of his own and a town he’s working on cleaning up… but not too much. Spikemuth citizens have their pride, after all.

Appearance: Like a zigzagoon fucked a gardevoir and then listened to way too much ramones with a healthy dose of MCR. Thin, pale, wild black-and-white hair, teal eyes, and perpetual bags under ‘em which he insists are the pokemon world’s equivalent of Gucci. Has a propensity for piercings, jewelry, and heels.

Personality: Prickly to strangers, sharp to his friends, but ultimately warm.

Pokemon SwSh GPL AU: Character Analysis P2

Hey all! I was going to call this “Gym Leader Analysis”, but I really wanted to talk about Leon and Sonia too. We’re just keeping this series going! Keep an eye out for P3 (It’ll probably be posted in the same night).

LEON:

AGE: 26

ETHNICITY: Half Hispanic, Half Black

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Leon is definitely cool uncle friend. I know he is a hot mess and can barely look after himself, but I just feel like he is so good at taking care of other people.

Leon is a man of many faces. He can pump up a crowd one moment and rid his face of emotion the next. It is definitely jarring when someone first gets to know him.

Leon is pansexual. He pretty much flirts with anyone (within his age range, of course). That being said, he isn’t out to the public yet. He isn’t ashamed of it at all; he just doesn’t want his sexuality to be the only thing he’s known for.

Speaking of flirting, there is nobody he flirts harder with than Raihan ;)

Leon was 12 when his dad died, and it hit him really hard. Since the rest of his family took it even harder than he did, he internalised a lot of his pain and focused on trying to help raise Hop. He doesn’t really feel like he ever got the closure he needed.

Oh boy, is Leon protective over Hop. There is a 10 year age difference between them, so he will always feel like Hop is his “Baby Brother”.

(Fun fact: He develops a similar relationship to Gloria when he becomes her Champion Mentor).

Leon is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. He doesn’t really process the fact that some of the things he deals with are incredibly dangerous, which is a bit concerning to his friends. On a more lighthearted note, this means that he will ride any roller coaster without breaking a sweat.

Cannot cook to save his life.

Leon, like Hop, has ADD. That’s why he’s always getting lost/seems to have trouble keeping focus.

SONIA:

AGE: 26

ETHNICITY: White

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Sonia is the smartest out of our gaggle of characters and she knows it.

She and Leon entered the GPL together, but she dropped out before going to Hammerlock. Sonia originally joined the league thinking it was something she wanted to do because she was good at pokemon battles, but she quickly learned that the rigorous lifestyle trainers live wasn’t for her.

Sonia had an uncertain period of her life where her best friends had all become gym leaders and she was stuck in Wedgehurst helping her grandmother. She definitely had imposter syndrome when hanging around them, so for a few years, she kept her distance. Attending University really helped her start to find her footing, though she wasn’t sure what branch of pokemon studies she wanted to focus on (until the game starts).

She has a strong pokemon team, but she doesn’t fight with them anymore. She mostly keeps them around for company and they help her with her research!

Sonia is super close with Hop. After becoming champion, Leon asked her to keep an eye on him. They very much have a sibling relationship (though neither will admit it).

She is the friend that is overly invested in everyone’s love lives. Sonia is constantly trying to set everyone up together because she “just loves love”.

RAIHAN:

AGE: 25

ETHNICITY: Black

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Tall boy! Raihan is freaking huge, and being around everyone else in the League only heightens this fact. He jokes that the one thing he will always hold over Leon is their height difference.

You would think Sonia is the biggest gossip, but we all know that Raihan is. You can trust him if it’s something serious, but you have to preface that. If you don’t, you may as well kiss your secrets goodbye.

Raihan is the best person to go to when you need help. He has big Gryffindor energy and will literally do anything you need him to. If he doesn’t, you just have to call him out for “being a coward”. His pride will definitely be the death of him.

Raihan has the biggest social media presence despite not being champion. He is really good to his fans and will try to interact with them as much as possible. Will always sign autographs or stop to take a picture.

He met Sonia, Leon, and Nessa through the GPL (they were all in the same season). He beat out Nessa but lost to Leon in the finals. Raihan took the defeat pretty hard and made it his goal to dethrone Leon, so he fought Hammerlocke’s previous gym leader and the rest is history.

He really wants to impress Leon ;)

Bede once challenged his for his throne, but lost. Raihan always brings this up to him now that they’re both gym leaders just to piss Bede off.

He really likes egging on his friends. Raihan never crosses the line, but he’ll say just the right thing to make you challenge him to a pokemon battle.

Puts on a brave face, but definitely lets negative comments get to him.

The chaotic one in the friend group.

PIERS:

AGE: 22

ETHNICITY: White

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Such a pure, soft boy. Literally the nicest, chillest person. He just scares people off with his edgy demeanour.

He cares a lot about the people in his town. Since Spikemuth is small, it definitely feels like everyone there is a family. It was the main reason he refused to move the Dark Type Gym to a different location to obtain a Dynamax hotspot. (That, and he hates Dynamaxing).

Speaking of, he is fairly new as a gym leader! Leon nominated him to participate in the GPL after noticing his raw talent in the GJPL (Galarian Junior Pokemon League). Piers didn’t expect to make it as far as he did, but he was truly the dark horse of his season. He made it all the way to finals and wiped the floor with the gym leaders he went up against. He did end up losing, but he used the newfound fame he received from participating to kickstart his band.

Two years later, Leon approached him again and asked if he was still interested in becoming a new gym leader. It started as a small, non league Gym, but his notoriety quickly gained Spikemuth new attention. He joined the League only one year after debuting.

Despite being crazy talented at being a pokemon trainer, Piers really isn’t interested in it anymore. He likes the freedom that comes with pursuing his music career. (It definitely helped that his little sister shaped up to be an astounding pokemon trainer herself).

Coolest big brother ever. Marnie chastises him for pampering her, but they are definitely best friends. They’re the type of siblings that, if one of them goes to the grocery store, the other will just tag along.

Dad Friend. 100% a Dad Friend. Literally adopts Marnie’s friends the second he sees them. (Who are these twerps? Ok, I guess they’re my children now). Would never admit to this fact.

Vegan.

Piers and Marnie grew up in an artsy family with three other brothers (he is the exact middle child). They weren’t rich, but they are all super close and supportive of each other.

NESSA:

AGE: 25

ETHNICITY: Black

GENERAL HEADCANNONS:

Looks are definitely deceiving with this one. Nessa is good at keeping a serene face, but if she loses, she is definitely seething underneath.

So pretty, oh my god. She was scouted by a modelling agent during her GPL season. Nessa only signed after she lost the Finals Tournament. Her career started as something to keep food on the table now that she couldn’t become champion, but she has grown to respect her craft. She likes to use it to promote small businesses and make political statements.

Nessa was trained by the previous gym leader of Hulbury (another water type trainer), so it was no surprise to anybody when she tried to hand their title off to her. Nessa refused to take it without winning a pokemon battle, fair and square.

She is super athletic! Nessa was on the swimming team throughout school and won several region championships! Sometimes during the off season, she’ll help teach swim classes to younger kids.

Best friends to lovers with Sonia! They met during their GPL but didn’t start to get romantic feelings towards each other until 6 years later. Everyone knows that Nessa has a girlfriend, but she keeps the fact that it is Sonia private because she doesn’t want the crazy fanboys to target her.

Nessa takes on a big-sister-role to all of the new female gym leaders (Gloria, Marnie, and Bea). She and Melody will literally strike down anyone who even looks at their girls funny.

Her relationship with Milo is hilarious to anyone who isn’t them. Nessa is convinced that they are rivals and must constantly train against each other in order to get stronger. Milo sees her as his best friend and will bake her treats for when they meet up. (Also, Kabu is their dad. I’m just stating facts).

Hop reminds me a bit of Paris. Wannabe hero-worshipping his accomplished hero brother but failing to follow in the footsteps, or even get due to impatience, shortsightedness, and simply missing the point from the get-go. What Hop needs is Hektor, a wise brother figure who already saw up close the consequences of Hop's/Paris's flaws.

Bede is a gratitude monster. Rose visited his orphanage once presumably for publicity reasons, said "you're cool, kid" once, and now he's causing serious harm to himself and to others just to repay this gesture. The kid seriously needs to look at a mirror and see the damage he's causing. And by mirror, I mean the most self-sacrificing gratitude monster he can get. For that I'd go with Corday, not because she has any great pros, but because she's the balanced option compared to my other candidates:

Bedivere. Pros: Probably the quickest to jump to self-sacrificing methods before his Camelot, name and hair color overlap. Cons: Would de-escalate Bede's terribleness too much.

Eliza. Pros: Pink, turned evil by misinterpreting the expectations of adults. Cons: Would escalate Bede's terribleness too much, especially if she's pre-CCC.

Baobhan Sith. Pros: Eliza but a faerie, you can't get more Bede than that. Cons: Would escalate Bede's terribleness even more, she's too Bede of a partner for Bede's arc to function.

Marnie is very attached to Spikemuth, to the point her goal is to revitalize her town (and she speaks with her Welsh accent), so she absolutely demands a Welsh Servant. Gray is actually a perfect fit here due to their shared history of becoming the object of worship of their town against their will. But Gray isn't normally summonable, so the alternative is her partner Kay.

Milo is the first Gym Leader because prioritizes the fun of the battle over winning, and due to being the first Leader, he puts himself in a self-assigned role of teaching Trainers the knacks of the Gym Challenge. I'd go with Chiron for being a teacher figure who is less of a bloodhound than Scathach and Kiichi.

Nessa is in love with the ocean, an ungraceful loser, and a consummate professional both as a Gym Leader and as a model. Bart is the most successful pirate in history, fitting the ocean motif and strong desire for success. He's also the guy who successfully installed a lawcode in a pirate ship, so he'd go well with Nessa's professional, compartmentalized attitude. But her pride as a model wouldn't let her cater to Bart's preferred hairstyle.

Kabu is a guy from Hoenn and national identity is a huge thing for an immigrant, so he should have a Servant from Kyushu. Hoenn's own Fire Gym is located in Amakusa's hometown, so that's the easiest candidate. It's ironic because Kabu is a gramps who keeps saying "I'm still young, so I try to keep things simple" while Amakusa was the guy who died at age 17 because he took the very adult responsibility of leading a revolution.

Bea is a stoic martial artist who believes smiling is a sign of weakness. She really needs a cheerful and open martial artist who is undeniably better at fighting than her to show that's okay to like things. Go with Musashi if you want her story to have a good ending, or Kiara if you want a bad ending.

Allister could get Cursed Arm for the motifs of masks, death, and curses.

Opal gets Baobhan Sith, again, because she's too Bede.

Gordie in a sense lost his mother's love because he wanted to develop his own Rock-Type identity instead of following her Ice-Type footsteps, so he should get a more supportive mother like Europa.

Melony is a mother who wants to reconnect with her son but her pride doesn't allow her to speak up, so she resorts to dumb indirect approaches like being the first person in Gordie's fan club. She really needs some advice from Nagiko, our wise supporter of emotion, completely unrestrainable by any form of social convention.

Like Marnie, Piers is so attached to his hometown that he absolutely needs a Welsh Servant. And if we go if Merlin, "Piers can't Dynamax because Spikemuth doesn't have a Power Spot" is easily translatable to "Piers can't call his Servant to him because he's trapped inside Avalon's tower". Merlin can still communicate through dreams and fight using illusions without having to physically present, so that's not huge harm for his Grail War potential.

Raihan is about dragons, weather, and struggling forever to overcome a seemingly unsurpassable challenge. Vritra is a dragon and a weather phenomenon and gets off to people struggling and overcoming unsurpassable challenges.

Leon is the face of Galar and is choke-full of protagonist traits, so he can have Arthuria, I guess. She brings the exact same flavor of nostalgia appeal as Charizard.

Oleana could work with Carmilla. Her team is all Pokémons who evolved into something beautiful, except for her ace Garbodor, implying a narrative of beautiful metamorphosis that did nothing to make her essence prettier.

And Rose is a villain desperately trying to undo the inevitable downfall of Britain. Literally Morgan. Parallels well with Leon having Arthuria, also.

Summary: Half lost on his walk, Leon finds a frustrated Piers attempting to weave flowers together.

What a wonderful day for a walk. The sun shone over the yellow-green of the land. Not a single cloud floated across the blue sky. Flowers swayed in a gentle breeze. Rookidie chattered in the trees as bug pokemon skittered along the ground.

Simply a wonderful day outside of...Well, Leon didn't know exactly where he was, but he was at least sixty percent sure he was outside of Hulsbury. Or maybe Tuffield? He was on one side of the Northern Wild Areas.

Probably.

He stretched his arms up. His jacket sleeves rolled down to his elbows. The worn blue jacket had been his grandfather's and was still a little too big for him, even now that he was an adult, but it was comfortable and warm enough for spring days. He kept it with him when he wanted to go incognito since it wasn’t as distinguishable as his sponsor cape.

He could use more days off like this, more calming walks in nature with nothing but the plants, wild pokemon, and--

"Oh, c'mon!"

Leon jumped, nearly knocking his hat from his head.

Who was that?

He titled his head, listening. Someone swore up a storm not too far away. Half in an attempt to help, and half to seek confirmation of his location, Leon followed the colorful language over a small hill to its source.

Amongst a field of wildflowers and tall grass, someone kicked at the dirt. Grass, flowers, and dirt sprayed into the air.

"And you’re no help, you piece of--!" They spun around, throwing something.

Leon ducked just in time to avoid coming face to screen with a cellphone. The phone landed with a dull thud in the grass behind his feet.

Regret welled up in Leon's stomach. Maybe he should have just called the Pokemon League and asked them for help getting home. This person seemed too upset, and Leon interrupting their rage would just make them angrier, won't it?

"Champion Leon?"

Leon jumped at the sound of his name. Taking his gaze off the phone on the ground, he looked towards the phone's owner.

The gym leader of Spikemuth winced.

"Sorry 'bout that, mate." Piers raised his hands, palms facing forward as if he expected Leon to throw something back at him.

Leon shook his head, both to shake off his shock as well as to placate Piers. He picked up the phone.

"It's nothing to worry about," He reassured, wiping the screen on his jacket sleeve. On the screen, some sort of brightly colored webpage stared back at Leon. In a curling font, the header read 'Just A Unovan Country Gal' with 'recipes, DIYs, and patterns for good old girls' written underneath.

Deciding not to ask about the site, he pressed the power button as he passed the phone back, darkening the screen. Piers put the phone in his pocket. He hadn’t noticed Leon staring at the screen or didn’t acknowledge he knew Leon saw it, at least.

"You're lost, aren’t you?" Piers didn't hesitate to ask.

"What? Of course not. I know where I am," Leon lied, unsure why he did. Everyone in the Pokemon League knew he was terrible with directions. Every gym leader had to come to find and escort him to their gym at some point or another, including Piers.

"If you need help gettin' home, I can take you,'' Piers offered. "I'm done with...I'm done for today."

"Done with what?" Leon couldn't help but venture. The Unovain website flashed in his mind’s eye.

He couldn't figure why Piers of all people would be in a wildflower field in the middle of the day so far from Spikemuth. Was he picking flowers for a special someone? Searching for a certain pokemon? Training his team? Did it have to do with the website he had open on his phone?

Piers wrinkled his nose. "None of your business."

It was Leon's turn to hold up his hands. "Sorry." He took a few steps past Piers. "Didn't mean to pry. I'll leave you to it if you can point me toward Hulsbury."

Piers eyed him up and down, slowly, calculatingly. A shiver ran up Leon's back. Why did his stomach twist into knots? It wasn't like Piers planned on stabbing him.

With a heavy sigh, Piers pinched Leon's jacket between his fingers, stopping him from wandering off.

"Flower crown," he muttered, refusing to look at him.

"What?"

"Flower. Crown. I was trying to make a flower crown." Piers took his hand away to run it through his thick bangs, pushing them back away from his face. A tinge of pink blush dusted his face.

Leon bit the inside of his cheek to keep a laugh in. Flower crowns? Piers was the least likely person to be making flower crowns. Leon tried to imagine the dark-type gym leader with a ring of wild daisies and dandelions around his head but only succeeded in a snort of amusement at the idea.

Piers glowered and raised his hand. All of his nails had a sheen of shiny black paint, except for the middle one lifted at Leon, which was a matte white.

"If I left you out here, you would die of exposure before you found your way back."

Leon covered his mouth before another snort could make its way out.

"Sorry, sorry, but..." He took a breath, "why do you need a flower crown? It doesn't much match your..." he gestured to Piers’ punk, monochromatic outfit, “aesthetic.”

"It isn't for me," Piers snapped. "It's for Marnie, my sister. She wants one, not me."

Leon wasn't sure he'd ever actually met Piers' sister. He rarely went to Spikemuth, and when he did, he just stopped by the gym to deliver papers to Piers and get out. Had he ever even seen Piers’ sister before? She was about Hop's age, he knew that, but he couldn't remember if she was a little older or a little younger.

"Oh, of course. That makes sense," Leon said. "That's nice of you to make her one."

Piers searched his face for any sign of insincerity. Leon flashed him his champion smile. Whether that helped or not, he didn’t know.

Piers snorted. More to himself than Leon, he muttered, "It'd be nicer if I knew how to make one. Stupid website wasn’t any help..."

At this, Leon finally took a gander around. Most of the flowers had been plucked in the immediate area. They either sat in a pile or as parts of what Leon could only assume were attempts at flower crowns.

He knelt and picked a crown up, holding it carefully. Yellow daisies made up the crown. Each daisy had a slit cut in the stem with the next daisy slipped through until the end where the last stem was tied to the first. It was crude and the spacing of the flowers uneven, but not the worst flower crown Leon had ever seen.

Before Leon could look closer, Piers snatched the crown out of his hands. Pale yellow petals fell to the ground.

He glared, the tips of his ears burning red. “Making flower crowns isn’t a life skill they teach you in school, you know.”

Leon tilted his head to the side then asked, "Do you want help?"

"Help?" Piers tossed the crown into the tall grass. "You know how to make them?"

Leon nodded. "I grew up in Postwick." He fell back to his bottom. "Everyone knew how to make a proper crown." His lips twitched up into a smile. "I remember chasing down a wooloo to stop it from eating the crown I'd just given it."

He took a few daisies from the pile next to him. It took mere seconds for his fingers to remember the motion of wrapping stem over stem.

"Silly thing was someone's prized wooloo, and the farmer spoiled it rotten," Leon continued, occasionally looking down at his hands, "so when it saw me coming towards it with a handful of flowers, it thought it was getting a treat."

He laughed at the memory. He couldn’t have been more than seven or eight at the time. His mother still brought it up when she wanted to embarrass him in front of guests.

“I remember looking out the window and seeing my little boy, nearly in tears, shouting at a fat old wooloo.” She’d laugh. “Oh, he chased that thing for an hour trying to catch it!”

As Leon continued rambling, Piers watched his hands weave together daisies, dandelions, and corncockle. He sat back with his hands resting across his knees. He puffed his cheeks a little as he watched, breathing only through his nose. Whether he noticed he was doing it or not, Leon wasn't sure and didn't ask.

"And that's how I broke my arm for the first time," Leon finished, holding up the crown. He placed it on Piers' head where it sat unevenly on top of his ponytails. Leon beamed at Piers, proud of his work as if they were children playing in the fields of Postwick and not young adults.

Piers brushed his fingertips against the soft petals. He took a dandelion and a wild clover flower from one of the piles. With his face set in determination, he started to copy what he'd seen Leon doing. He wove together six flowers before tossing his hands in the air.

"What am I doing wrong?" He demanded.

Leon scooted until he sat next to Piers then took the crown to examine it. He nodded to himself. Without asking, Leon took Piers' hands in his own.

"You're doing it backward. See here?" Leon made Piers' thumb press against the first wrap in the crown. Instead of locking around the flower, the stem went behind it. A simple mistake for a first-time crown weaver to make.

Piers pulled his hands back.

"I think I got it." He took a meadows cranesbill and corncockle and began the wrap and lock method Leon showed him. He held up his attempt for inspection.

"That's it. Just keep doing that until it's long enough."

"This is going to take a while," Piers said, adding a daisy to the chain.

Leon shrugged sympathetically. "It might," he settled into a more comfortable, half-reclined position, "but it'll be fine. I'm here to help."

Piers paused and looked over at Leon, eyeing him once again. This time, however, Leon didn't feel a chill run up his back. Instead, heat crept up his cheeks at Piers' half smile towards.

Leon's pride wanted him to hold Piers' gaze as he would with any other gym leader, but he broke away to look at a patch of foxgloves in the distance.

"Thanks." Piers turned back to his project.

They sat in comfortable silence for a while before Piers held out a flower. Its stem was too short.

"D’you know what this is?" He asked, dropping the flower in Leon's lap.

Leon picked it up and spun it in between his fingers. Of course, he knew what it was, but he shrugged and pretended to think it over.

"Primrose, I think." He said. "My grandma kept some fancier varieties in the house when I was growing up."

The memory of cleaning up broken pots formed a smile on his face. Sonia and he landed themselves on his grandmother’s naughty list for killing her primroses, even if it was an accident.

Piers hummed. "I thought that's what it was. And this?"

Leon moved next to Piers. "That's a ragged robin. This is a cornflower. That's chicory." He continued pointing out the names of the flowers he knew, silently thanking his mother and grandparents for explaining all the wildflowers to him when he was a kid.

Of course, he didn't know them as well as Milo. He couldn't tell what medical uses dandelions had or how to make coffee from chicory, but Piers seemed impressed nonetheless with his botanical knowledge.

Leon picked up a flower from a failed crown attempt. He held it up, about to explain what it was, but Piers spoke first.

“That’s a wild violet.”

Leon slowly nodded. He was a little disappointed he didn’t get to explain it but shoved the feeling away. Of course, Piers would know such a common flower.

Piers smiled down at his work. “Marnie made me fill a whole basket with them once. She learnt you can cook with them.”

“Did you--cook with it, I mean?”

“Unfortunately.” Piers snorted. “I’ve had pot brownies that taste less like grass.” He paused, then added nonchalantly, “Before I was part of the league, of course.”

, Leon snorted a laugh to himself. That was a lie, he knew, but instead of remarking on it, he said, “Did you use the flowers or leaves?”

“Marnie baked them, not me. I just turned on the oven. I think she just put the whole plant in there, roots and all.” He laughed. “I’m going to have to tease her about that when I get home. Thanks for reminding me about that.”

Finally, Piers held up his crown. It was far from perfect, some of the flowers lost their petals and long stems stuck out at odd angles, but Piers held it out as if it were a royal crown. His expression wasn’t unlike how Leon’s mum said he looked when he finished making a crown for the spoiled wooloo.

"Wow, it looks great," Leon complimented.

Piers snorted with a smile. "For a first attempt, I guess." He looked at his flower crown, then at Leon, then back, before reaching up. He took hold of the bill of Leon's baseball cap. With a flick of the wrist, he tossed it off then replaced it with the crown.

He smiled at him. “You look like a prince, champ.” He teased before bending down and picking up the hat.

“I could say the same.”

The two shared a laugh and grins. Their fingers touched as Piers pushed the hat into Leon's hands. Leon wasn’t sure the touch was unintentional.

"It's getting late."

Leon looked up at the saturated orange-red sky.

"If you get me to Hulsbury, I can get a taxi home."

Piers chuckled and shook his head. "You really are lost, aren’t you? We're not too far outside the Spikemuth Tunnel, mate."

Leon dropped his hat. He held his head in his hands. The heat of embarrassment crept up his face. He had wandered farther off the beaten path than he thought. How did he even get so far away from where he started like this?

With a sympathetic smile, Piers put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed.

"How about I take you back to my place, as a thank you for teaching me this." He gestured to the crown on his head. "I'll cook you up a little somethin' then you can hitch a ride on a flying taxi back home."

Leon's heart skipped a beat. He swallowed the embarrassment down and smiled.

"That sounds great."

AN: I stopped writing this halfway through to go outside, find some flowers, and learn how to do this because the way I described Piers doing it is how I've always done it. XP It is a completely valid way to make flower chains don't get me wrong, but it doesn't look nearly as fancy.

Anyway, maybe a little too sugary sweet, but I wanted to write some short fluff and doggone it I did!

I lowkey ship them and imagine that they knew each other way back in his training days. Unfortunately and much to her annoyance, he doesn’t quiet remember her. She looked way different then and she probably has a long time crush on this skeleton man. (I also ship him and Sonia)

(Lowkey also ship him with Sonia, but that’s another whole bag of worms)

I can actually see Piers being the one to recognize Klara and she’s like “fuck don’t make a scene.” ‘Cause as I said before I theorize she hides her accent, or it’s just one of those things that comes out when you’re mad. Like for me, I get super Bostonian when I’m pissed.

She probably doesn’t want to be associated with Spikemuth ‘cause of the stereotypes behind it, and the fact it’s not really a place people associate success with.

So Piers sees her at the star tournament for the first time and just goes, “holy shit! Klara?!”

And then Klara’s all like “shitshitshit” “aha... you must be a fan...”

“What? No. We knew each other as kids. Oh, you may not recognize me. I transitioned in the time you were away from Spikemuth.”

Klara leans in, “Piers, I know who you are but for the love of Arceus keep it low.”

They then talk later. Klara probably eventually sucks it up and takes pride in Spikemuth or at least doesn’t keep it secret. Also, Marnie and Klara team up in the star tournament at some point if that’s anymore evidence.

Piers definitely goes to her shows if she has any. Klara’s all embarrassed, she has no clue how to handle it. She doesn’t really associate Spikemuth with good things and nice people so she thought Piers was actually a huge asshole.

1️⃣ - What’s the first thing that attracted you to them?

- Piers: "I was interested in learnin' more about Victor the moment we started our battle. His love for his Pokemon, his kindness for others despite being their competition, and of course that pink Obstagoon of his was the talk of the region. He seems so bright and cheerful during his Challenge. It was his passion for life that really drew me to him. His passion for battle, keeping his loved ones safe, the way Spikemuth always seemed a little brighter when he visited."

- Raihan: "I wish I could explain it better, but I just can't. Have you ever had a crush on a friend? One day you look at them and just think 'shit' cause you see them as more than a friend now. I guess his compassion for others? I felt different around him than I did with Leon. I think the League kinda changed us, I felt like I always had to be strong and collected around him since he was the Champion, so caught up in my want to beat him. But I could let those walls down around Victor and he'd listen when I spoke."

✨ - What’s one of (Y/N)’s talents that you’ve noticed?

- Piers: "I know Raihan's gonna say somethin' about Victor's cooking, but yeah. He prides himself about it, and he doesn't do that often. It's good, and it gets both Marnie and myself to eat. Sensory issues and all that, but he gets it. Nice to be able to eat something I can actually well, eat."

- Raihan: "His cooking of course! There's a reason I always dig through Leon's kitchen when he gets back from Postwick. And this is the best time of year, from autumn to winter, where he makes things from homemade soups to sweet holiday cookies. Have I spent a few Pokedollars on kitchen supplies for him just so he can go all out when he visits Hammerlocke? Maybe, maybe. But I mean come on! Not only is he adorable in an apron but I get to make thousands jealous about all the tasty treats he lets me post about."

10 years later..

Oops I haven’t posted in over two months-

These are my predictions for what the swsh cast would be doing 10 years after the game, just because it’s interesting (also my age headcanons)

Hop - 21

He’s still Sonia’s assistant and is completely dedicated to his job. Sonia usually gets him to do field research since he doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty (or licking nectar off peoples faces). As he’s gotten older he’s begun to look a lot more like Leon. That, along with his dorky personality, has led him to be quite the heartthrob amongst girls in the region (but we all know that his heart is set on Bede)

Bede - 22

Although he continues to be a brat, Bede has matured into a charming gentleman. He’s still Ballonlea’s gym leader and holds the position with great pride. In fact, his strength in battle has allowed him to become one of the strongest gym leaders in the region (and oh boy does he love to flaunt his status.) He just wishes that Opal was still around to support him when things got tough

Marnie - 21

Just like her big brother, Marnie has turned into a rockstar/gym leader, playing electric guitar whilst battling. She’s notorious for her bold fashion choices - literally everything she wears is made of leather and covered in spikes - and ability to stay calm even in the most heated battles. Despite the drastic change in demeanour, in private she’s still a big sweetheart

Leon - 35

He’s now the chairman of the league. At first he didn’t want the title, knowing what Rose tried to do to the region, however his motivation to make battles as fun as possible drove him to take on the role. Life is stressful for him but he still finds the time to hang out with Hop and Sonia. And yes, he’s still pants with directions (he basically lives in Wyndon now and still can’t get to the Battle Tower without turning down the wrong street.)

Sonia - 35

She continues to research the gigantamax phenomena, just like her grandmother. People often tell her that there’s nothing more to learn about it but somehow she turns around and comes up with a brand new theory. Her bond with Hop is incredibly strong after working with him almost every single day; it’s gotten to the point where Sonia has unofficially become Hop’s older sister.

Milo - 32

He recently retired from his position as gym leader to focus working on the farm. Of course he still loves to battle but he just wanted to settle down into a quiet life surrounded by Wooloos. He doesn’t regret stepping down early at all. His younger brother now runs the gym and does a pretty good job at it

Nessa - 35

Honestly, she’s hardly changed. She continues to juggle being a gym leader and model. Although she might be ten years older, she’s still one of the prettiest women in the Galar and is a familiar face on magazines and billboards. Despite how busy she is, her rarely received free time is spent shopping/going to cafes with Sonia

Kabu - 62

He was desperate to stay gym leader for as long as possible to try and surpass Opal’s long reign but after a pretty bad injury he was forced to retire. The cruel end to his career damaged his mentality for a while. Unfortunately this led to there not being a fire gym in one gym challenge. After managing to regain his confidence, he’s been busy training a successor to live up to his high standards

Allister - 18

Recently he shocked the whole region after he took off his mask for the first time after winning an exhibition match. A mixture of maturing and Bea’s pep-talks has gradually helped to increase his confidence. However, he still carries around his mask just in case and is very awkward in interviews

Bea - 26

She is still committed to being as strong as possible but doesn’t go to the same extremes as what she did when she was younger. Recently she’s began teaching karate to children. Although she seems intimidating on the outside her long friendship with Allister has turned her into a ‘big sister’ figure for a lot of youngsters

Melony - 57

She’s been contemplating on retirement for a while. As of late the family feud between her and Gordie has calmed down and now she’s desperate to settle down and spend more time with her children. In the meantime, she’s been busy training her daughter so she can take her role as soon as possible

Gordie - 36

He doesn’t show any signs of stepping down as gym leader, he doesn’t have the heart to let his hundreds of fans down. Actually, he plans on staying as the gym leader for as long as he can. He still has high hopes of becoming the champion one day

Piers - 34

He’s had more time to write new music than ever. A couple of years ago he released his first official album; it blew up in Galar and after a successful tour he became known worldwide. Despite his newfound fame he always finds time to visit Spikemuth and cheer Marnie on throughout her matches

Raihan - 35

He realised his time as a gym leader was over after a streak of losses (and his closest rivals had retired). The region was devastated to watch their beloved dragon king step down but he still passionately updates his social media with various selfies of him and Leon. Recently he’s began a series on PokeTube of him offering advice on taking care of dragon type Pokemon, hoping to inspire future users of the type
