Gardenia - the love of a friend who doesn’t want to just be friends.

You had agreed to dance as just friends.

Deuce remembered his first day in NRC, the chaos that had erupted around him and how you had still spoken to him without hesitation. You had never seemed afraid even when his scary side came out, you had always been gentle when his frustration festered and had encouraged him to keep pushing forward even when his studies seemed impossible. It came to the point that you talked daily, and Deuce walked you to class each day even if your classes were in completely opposite buildings (he thanked the Track club for pushing him as hard as it did because he might be in much more trouble without it). Stamping you with the ‘best friend’ title just seemed right, especially when he spoke with his mother about you, but lately it had almost felt like an insult. Just a best friend, that was all? It was more than enough, he tried to rationalize, he didn’t expect anything else from you other than being a loyal friend yet somewhere along the way he must have started to see you in a different light.

You looked show-stopping in your masquerade outfit, the elegance with which you held yourself, the way you moved gracefully from place to place, laughter being shared with all kinds of people, it led Deuce to truly believe you were royalty. Even with a mask on your face he’d recognize you anywhere, the curve of your smile a dead giveaway to your identity; he had spent many days looking at it, admiring it, memorizing every line in your face to the point his dreams of you felt all too real at this point. But you were friends, just friends, and his admiration was of the friendly sort; it wasn’t unusual to admit that your friends were attractive and constantly invading your thoughts, was it?

You had been the one to approach him with the offer of a dance, trying to stifle your giggles as he stumbled over himself. Did he know how to dance? Not like this, admittedly, he wasn’t really a man who had ever explored the culture of masquerade balls. He was on the track team, able to control his limbs and feet, moving swiftly from here to there, but he didn’t know how that might translate to dancing. You pointed to where other couples were mingling, getting swept off their feet and over the dance floor with a flourish that made him jealous. He wanted to show you off like that, twirl you around and make you the center of attention; it meant people would see your connection, that he was the one who could support you and hold you up like this, that you were meant to be his partner —

His dancing partner, that is.

Deuce agreed to a dance after watching others do it for a few moments, having the steps repeating in his brain to the point it’s all he could think of even when you moved closer to him. You do successfully steal his attention when you grabbed his hand, shocked blue eyes meeting yours as you smiled at him again. He let you lead to a comfortable spot before the music changed into a tune that was inherently slower than before, the moves the same but the steps much slower this time. His hands rested high on your body, almost to the point he seemed uncomfortable and stiff.

“You can put your hands lower, Deuce. Relax!” You even helped him, lowering his hands until they were touching your waist, though he hovered over it for a moment like he was afraid to touch you any lower. “It’s okay, I know you won’t cop a feel or anything.”

Deuce gasped a little at that, the grin breaking out over your face telling him you were just messing with him again — he wished he could get you back for that. For always toying with him, even if it was in an unintentional way. Just one time he wanted to leave you breathless, thinking of him for days and wondering what it was he felt for you. He could make a move now, lower his hands just a little more, grip your waist just a little tighter or even move them to your back to bring you even closer to him. You almost seemed expectant, eyes never leaving his face as you danced together, not even when you almost bumped into another couple.

With just one move, Deuce could show how he felt, he could be honest with his feelings.

The ball was in his court now.

For the reader grant a wish the person needs to fulfill 3 requests made by the reader (the person is strucked by a curse of bad luck who least for some days if their requests are not fulfilled). ✦ a unique magic like yours is certainly impressive, especially for your first-year friends. of course, they don’t hang out with you for the sole reason that they like your unique magic. they genuinely care for you, and your abilities are just a bonus for them.

✦ now in terms of each and every one of these sweet little numpty boys, ace would occasionally joke around and ask if you could grant a wish for him. “n/n~ there’s something i reeeeeally want,” said ace as he leaned closer to you, pressing his hands together as if in prayer.

✦ “you need to grant my 3 requests before i give you what you want,” you replied as you took a bite of your meal. ace sighed and sat back on his seat, “okayy~ let’s hear it. what are the things i must do?”

✦ you raised a brow at his eagerness, “…what is this wish anyway?” a cheeky grin found its way on ace’s lips as he joked once more, “i wish to get perfect marks on my test!”

✦ silence.

✦ “…seriously?” you mumbled. sure, ace did have his moments, but it’s not like reaching a high score is nigh impossible for him. seeing your reaction, ace laughed and patted your back, “i’m joking! i’m joking! gee, n/n, you’re so serious.”

✦ deuce, on the other hand, barely mentions your abilities nor does he have any use for it. sometimes, however, he gets tempted.

✦ “n/n…”

✦ “yes, deuce?”

✦ “since you can grant wishes like azul, but you’re less harmful than he is… can you do something for me?” he said it so politely that you can’t help but smile, patting his head as you replied, “sure, what is it?”

✦ “i wish to have a photographic memory… like the kind where i can just stare at my notebook and everything in it gets into my memory…” spoke deuce, making you blink. this is just like ace’s wish but with more steps!

✦ as for jack, he’s the one who never mentions or asks for anything related to your unique magic. he sees no point in asking for a wish when he can just work hard for it, but he greatly admires you for your wonderful ability!

✦ instead of asking for a wish, he compliments your skills instead… of course, it’s rather awkward.

✦ “uh… you did… good.” that was all jack said in response, making you blink after you used your unique magic on a student that passed by you and jack, asking for a wish and they have fulfilled all your requests. as sweet and generous as you are, you granted this student their desires.

✦ their wish? to get all 3 ssrs in the game they’re playing in a single 10-pull.

✦ jack was with you during the process, and as soon as the student walked away, he tried to compliment you, only to end up being awkward about it. you chuckled as you replied, “thanks.”

✦ as for epel, he was quite chill about it. similar to jack, he barely mentions or asks for anything regarding your abilities, but he does praise you a lot better than jack does.

✦ “woaahh~ you’re like a genie! so cool!”

✦ you were grateful with how epel compliments you, but you felt as if calling you a genie is a stretch. sure, you grant wishes, but you’re not as powerful as genie, no? at least, that’s what you think.

✦ ortho, on the other hand, has known of your unique magic before you revealed it to the rest of the group. he had everything analysed and statistics of your power were already read by him.

✦ “f/n l/n-san, your magical abilities are extraordinary! granting wishes in exchange for three requests puts you at an advantage. ah… but i don’t understand why deuce spade-san says it’s almost like azul ashengrotto-san’s unique magic…” spoke ortho as he conversed with you.

✦ “oh, pay it no mind, child,” you replied, “i guess it might seem like azul’s magic on the surface since we are both the ‘wish granting’ types.”

✦ lastly, sebek does not acknowledge it too much. yes, he knows you grant wishes, but it’s not like it’s something he needs to take note of. he has no use in having you grant him a wish when he can just work twice as hard to achieve what he wants.

✦ he doesn’t know how to properly compliment you either, but he thinks it’s impressive at the very least.

✦ but of course, nothing tops the power of his master.

✦ and grim? he tries to use it to his advantage. he would constantly pester you, even when you are in your dormitory, asking for a wish of thousands of tuna cans, grilled meat, salmon, and whatnot. his wishes were never-ending.

✦ every time you give him 3 requests, he ends up not doing them in the specified time frame you have set, causing him to get a string of bad luck for a week straight. the poor monster with a bottomless pit was very furious that week.

so sorry for the lateness on requests!! Trey has been busy with school again-

Ace

He pretends he doesn't care, but in reality, he thinks its really cute that you have your own little garden. There are times where he can't help but watch you wander around checking on your flowers and crops, watering them or pulling out weeds when needed. you sometimes bring him flowers freshly picked from your garden, and sometimes vegetables too. He now refuses to eat any kind of store bought vegetable. They have to be your home grown ones or he will not even lay a hand on that plate. He also enjoys your fruits as well, the cherries you grow always taste so sweet, and they're perfect for cherry pie, so if you can bake too, make sure you make him some, he'll love you forever after that! He also finds it so cute whenever you come back inside from gardening, and you've got dirt and grass all over you, he makes fun of you for it. (lovingly)

Deuce

He finds it so adorable! Also very convient as well, seeing as you don't really have to buy store bought vegetables or fruits, and the flowers are always so pretty to him. He's willing to help out in the garden if you ever need it. Need some plants watered fast? he's got his own watering can and is ready to help! Need help harvesting fruits? he's got a ladder ready to climb up and grab any high up fruits for you. Can't get some stupid weed out of the ground? He'll use his strength to pull it out for you! He's so helpful and you're always so grateful for it. He doesn't mind getting a bit of soil and dirt on his hands if it means he can spend time with you and help you out! He's also happy to recieve any flowers you give him, and he'll try his absolute best to take care of them well!

Epel

He's got a bit of experience in farming himself, seeing as he is from Harveston... which literally has "Harvest" in the name... Also slightly reminds me about Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing... He's especially experienced with dealing with the fruits, he'd be happy to help you out a bit, and he loves the apples that you grow so much, they always turn out so sweet and perfectly ripe. I'd like to imagine you have almost all 7,500 different varieties of apples growing in your lovely garden, and him being able to try all these different types always makes him happy and excited! Though he isn't particularly experienced in the flowers department, if you gift him any from your garden, he'll try his best to care for them!

Jack

Seeing as he has his own cacti, he must know quite a bit about gardening, so I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping you if you asked him nicely. Need the plants watered? Sure, he can help. Stupid weeds again? He's got it covered. He also enjoys the large assortment of fruits and vegetables you have. He always makes sure to come by for some food every now and then, he just can't resist the taste of your home grown foods! If you were to give him flowers, he'll take care of them as if they were his own children, and if they do wilt... he'll be sad...

*Mandatory reminder that I’m no flower specialist, which means these are all very subjective opinions. Take everything with a grain of salt!

Poppy anemones, also known as windflowers, symbolize loyalty and the fragility of life – with its name referring to either the wind that helps blow the flowers open, or their susceptibility to wind. The blue color gives them the meaning of protection (against evil), though anemones in general are known to provoke feelings of expectation and excitement. They’re one of the flowers that open during daytime, but close again at night, so they’re ideal gifts for those coming of age, or currently about to start a new chapter in their life.

Deuce has blue hydrangeas, which carry the meaning of forgiveness, rejection, and regret, and are typically gifted when you’re looking to apologize, or to symbolize a new starting point. In Europe and the Victorian Flower Language they’re symbols of arrogance and boastfulness, but nowadays, they’re more commonly understood to show understanding, gratitude, or even as a way to express your concern for the recipients’ feelings (which is derived from their Japanese meaning).

Blue carnations are relatively new flowers that don’t grow naturally, and thus don’t have much history. However, they’re associated with peace, truth, and devotion. Carnations in general are synonymous for affectionate feelings for someone loved and adored. They’re a symbol of distinction, creativity, and uniqueness – and a popular gift for Mother’s Day. (Interestingly, in the Netherlands they’re associated with defiance and rebellion.)

The gentiana scabra in his bouquet represent justice, accuracy and victory because of its upward flowering shape. Another reading is that of lonely love, or loving someone who is sorrowful, or that of chastity.

Cornflowers are symbols of reliability, anticipation, prosperity, devotion, tenderness, and love. Depending on what color you believe Deuce’s flowers to be (because color-picking in photoshop has revealed them to be a lovely indigo – so exactly between blue and purple): blue cornflowers carry an additional meaning of hope, and striving for the unattainable, while their purple variation symbolizes power and dignity.

The small, white flowers in Deuce’s bouquet are either lupines or larkspurs. Lupines are used to symbolize growth and change, strength and protection, as well as transformation and renewal. They represent a passion for life and different experiences, and inner strength since they’re resilient and durable and one of the few flowers that can grow in any soil. White lupines also stand for self-sacrifice, selflessness and forgiveness, and are symbols of compassion for others. Although highly subjective, many believe lupines to be astrologically connected to the signs of Gemini or Cancer (with Deuce being a Gemini). Larkspurs, on the other hand, are symbolic of swiftness, strong bonds, and a beautiful spirit. They’re associated with lightheartedness and youth, as well as a desire for lightness, or simply a pure heart. White larkspurs are typically seen as symbols of happiness, pride, and joy.

Clovers are signs of protection and are believed to be charms against negativity and hexes. They’re closely associated with good fortune and luck, but can also carry the meaning of success, fidelity, joyfulness, and lightheartedness.

Naturally, these are only my un-educated guesses, but feel free to let me know if I got anything wrong/what flowers I might’ve missed.
