The hypocrisy of Gruvia haters

(Sorry for my bad english)

Disclaimer : I’m not talking about all the people who don’t like Gruvia. You can ship and not ship whatever you want. Sometimes, even myself don’t like popular ship or I don’t understand why people ship them and that’s okay. You can be unconfortable with a ship, that’s your right because it’s your feelings. As a Gruvia shipper, i respect that you don’t like Gruvia if you respect that I like it and don’t come in our tags to spit your hate.

But today, I’m talking specially of people who hate Gruvia because they ship Gray with another character.

I ship Gruvia for nearly 10 years and I’ve been on Tumblr since 2013. So believe me, I saw a lot of bullsh*t here. That’s how I witnessed a lot of hypocrisy from theses haters and I identified mainly 3 patterns :

These haters decide what’s romantic or not based on their preference.

Gray died for Juvia twice, she was litteraly the last person he thought of before nearly dying (and appeared like a beautiful angel in his mind), he comforts her, he explicitly says he wants to protect her no matters what the cost, he makes sure to always be with her (« I’m here Juvia »), she’s the only person who can make Gray smile when he’s feeling down, she’s the only person who saw him cry openly in her arms because he trust her enough, Gray says that Juvia is his world, that Juvia is his power to live, he thinks of her as « romantic love », he wants to become a better man to be with her, he said several time that Juvia was « his », he explicitly said that he doesn’t hate Juvia and was grateful to having her at his side (I’m sure I forgot others moments, there are so many)

Theses haters : Gray hates Juvia ! Gruvia has no development ! Gray has no romantic feeling towards Juvia !

But when Gray and Lucy stood next to each other, these same people believe it’s a romantic moment ! Okay Gray said once that Lucy was a cute girl (because she is ❤), but he also friendzoned her at several occasions and act like a brother.

In his mind, she’s like Wendy, a little sister, when Juvia is guess what ? The woman he loves !

(Also remember that’s Stone Age omake ? Every men was sexually attracted to Lucy, except Gray and Gajeel. And guess who was Gray attracted to ? Juvia !)

So remember, by these haters’ logic : if you stand next someone, it’s true love. If you found a person cute, it’s means you love them romantically (omg, I guess I love at least 10 person at the same time lmao). But if you die to protect someone who means the world to you, it means you hate this person !

These haters loves to say Gray is OOC when he’s romantic with Juvia.

Just say you don’t want him to be romantic with Juvia and go lol. You don’t have to act like you know the characters better than the author (you know, the one who created them ?) just because you ship the guy with another girl.

Speaking about Gray being OOC, I love when these people act like this :

Gray developps feelings towards Juvia during the entire manga, Gruvia is the most developped ship on panel, Gray is more and more open about his feelings because it’s in the logic of his character arc (it’s called growth, a character whith no developpment isn’t a good character).

These haters : Gray is OOC !

The same haters : (make Gray acts the same way towards another girl who he had 0 romantic developpment during the entire manga) It’s true love !

Friendly reminders that Gray isn’t a Don Juan who will openly flirt with Lucy or another girl, no matters how much you convinced yourself.

It’s canon that Gray has no experience in dating and Juvia is the first girl he has a romantic dveloppment with.

So remember, by these haters logic : if a character doesn’t act the way you want or fall in love with the girl you want, it’s because the author doesn’t undestrand them. Everyone knows that you are the only person on Earth who understand this character you didn’t even create !

These haters say that Gruvia isn’t romantic, but stole Gruvia moments for their own ship

This one makes me laugh the most. It’s a common thing in fandom, because I saw it in others ship wars. The haters will say a ship isn’t romantic but will used romantic moments of said ship for their own.

With Gruvia, I saw a lot of other ship use Mashima drawing and replace Juvia’s face with another girl’s. So I don’t understand ? If Gruvia isn’t romantic, why are you stealing their moment for your own ship ? What logic is that ?

I remember a Gray and Ultear shipper who was a massive Gruvia hater. One day, this person hated on Juvia because « she killed Gray’s father so she was a horrible person who didn’t deserve him ».

So okay, let’s ignore the fact that :

Silver was already dead. He was just a living corpse under the influence of the necromancer.

Juvia had no other choice, because she had to kill that necromancer to save the world

Juvia was heartbroken because she knew it would kill Gray’s dad. But guess who ask her to do it anyway ? Gray’s dad ! Silver wanted to die !

Juvia was so heartbroken that she was ready to give up her love for Gray. And guess who stopped her ? Gray himself because he was glad he didn’t have to kill his father himself ! Gray didn’t want Juvia’s love to go away, he needed her !

Anyway… This hater had found a new pretext to hate on Juvia. When, several week later, this same person make a AU where Ultear is the one to kill Silver, stealing a Gruvia moment.

So by this person logic : Juvia is a bitch because she was forces to kill the father of the man she loves to save the wolrd. But when another girl do it, it’s tragic and romantic ?

Like, are you dumb ? Or are you one of Earth’s biggest hypocrite ?

So in conclusion : it’s okay if you don’t like Gruvia dynamic. But in that case don’t use this dynamic for shipping Gray with another character.

Sorry for going on and on about this but yes, absolutely, R*b Thom@s ruined all the good memories I had about Veronica Mars, I literally sold my VM DVDs because I can’t see myself rewatching it ever again after what they did to Logan. And: FOR WHAT? This is what pisses me off!!!

I think what I meant is that female characters are screwed and aren’t forgiven for that, you know?

The audience can forgive male characters even when writers make them ooc as f-ck but if a female character does 01 thing ‘wrong’ it’s over for them. (Or they’re much more criticized and judged, at least.)

Like one of my very favorite ships ever, the male character was written so ooc at some point (s3 to be more exact) it broke my heart, and later my girl was also written ridiculously ooc but even when he was the one being written ooc people started disliking HER because she was disappointed with him.

The misogyny! *sighs*

It is cruel and the more I talk about it or try to (because most times I feel very alone for having so many feelings and opinions about fictional characters I love) I just wanna scream at the person that thought those writing choices were good.

When you love a character so much and you see them go through a lot and then you think they’re going to get a break... I mostly get attached to ships when I see those two people can be for each other what no one else has been for them before. It’s like: okay, so now they have love! Great, I need them to be loved and feel loved.

How can these writers think it will be interesting for viewers to tune in every week to watch who they love suffer? The worst thing is that the stupid haters leave, they’re not the ones that stay watching no matter what because they still have hopes it will get better! And it hurts, I wish I could be like those people that think it’s “just a tv show” or the ones that move on easily to another show, another ship. Sorry, I’ve been very mad about it lately and it feels like it’s never going to pass.

P.S: You reminded me I have to watch Breaking Bad, thanks for that! And of course thanks for answering so many asks, I couldn’t do it because I’m an emotional mess. You rock!

Omg fuck R*b Th*m*s and KB*ll for that decision for real. The way they stood behind that decision was so gross. Apparently you can't have a happy lady detective because that doesn't work *rolls eyes forever*.

Yeah, you're right. Female characters are treated more cruelly and in my experience not really given redemption arcs. I'm sorry about your fave couple! I hate that for you, honestly. Ships and characters can come to mean so much to us and for writers/showrunners/producers to step all over that and 'start anew' is so disrespectful to your audience.

Let me say this. You are truly not alone. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and this television shit is supposed to help me, not hurt me. So when it hurts me, it HURTS ME. I see myself in Marissa Cooper and in the various ladies that have gotten fridged in media. The message I get from these decisions is that your number was up anyway. It's incredibly reductive and usually only happens to females.

Excellent point. The people hating on said character will inevitably go away while us diehards will stick around and endure the content because we've grown attached. It's a vicious cycle. I feel like teen dramas in particular want ships and characters to suffer so they can maintain the buzzy kind of drama networks want. It's just exhausting for audiences who've grown to care for these characters as if they're people because they were written to be sympathetic. I have no real advice on how to get over it because I myself have not mastered it. I really am sorry you're going through this, and want you to know my ask box is always open. Answering these can be emotionally taxing so I take a day or two in between, but I really do enjoy the discourse. I look forward to seeing new messages pop up and more people to discuss these things with!

I HIGHLY recommend Breaking Bad. Talk about iconic television. It's paced so well and doesn't ever overstay its welcome. The story, evolution, and symbolism are out of this world.

im a little hesitant to discuss my feelings on c//r here on tumblr bc it seems like a lot of tumblr fans unfortunately can't take criticism of their favorite show (which is understandable to a certain degree but like......media being your favorite doesn't mean it exists in a vacuum!). last time i did some c//r criticism i dealt with angry messages for like a week after. most of them didn't really bother me in terms of making me feel bad; they were just really annoying lol.

i am actually still watching. sort of. i half pay attention to the first half of eps. but i have very little idea of what this last arc was--i missed most of the lore drops and it was hard for me to follow when most of my attachment had faded. last night's pre-finale was the first full episode i've watched in months. it was okay! i have thoughts on it too but i think i'm just going to wait to post them here (again, if you're interested, you can check out my twitter).

You know, I think the reason why some main LIs who are clearly and undoubtedly favoured on their respective stories (like Ethan, Beckett, Liam etc) have so many haters is because of their stans.

Main LIs stans in general have trouble seeing and admitting that their LIs are favoured, or that they are forced on those who don’t romance them. Take TRH for example. The book makes absolutely no sense if Liam isn’t your LI (and it’s even worse if you’re a Hana stan). Throughout TRR 1/2, Liam is extremely forced on MC even if you don’t want to romance him. Which makes sense for book 1 I guess, but they could’ve done it better on book 2. I mean, the guy proposes to MC even if you don’t get a single romance point with him. And, somehow, I’ve seen people saying that Liam isn’t forced or that his route isn’t favoured??

Same thing with Ethan in Open Heart. I think PB assumed everyone would be head over heels for Ethan and forgot that there are 3 other amazing LIs in that book. The scene leading to his 30 diamond was something that made Ethan seem like some creepy man or whatever. I originally thought that the whole “pushed against the counter, his body trapping yours” crap was only there if you had previously gained some romance points with him, but when I did a play through without romancing him and saw that it happens regardless of previous romance points, it made me feel so uncomfortable. Ethan just comes off creepy and lowkey abusive if you don’t romance him. But, I guess PB finally saw the problem in that scene and changed it as @lahelalove showed on this post. That’s something I really hope they do better in book 2. Bryce, Rafael and Jackie and Aurora hopefully deserve better than to be pushed to the background so Ethan can shine.

Do I really need to talk about Beckett? I mean, he got a scene every single week, geez. In book 1, he got like 19 scenes and Aster only got 4. That's enough said.

Anyway, back to my original point: the stans stain (that sounds weird sorry) their LIs reputation. If y’all could have some empathy and braincells and simply say “Yes, I love that LI but I understand how he is favoured/forced if you don’t romance him and how it must suck to romance anyone else in that aspect, I wish PB wouldn’t do them dirty like that” everything would be so much easier and other people probably wouldn’t hate on some LIs that much. But no, you guys are like "omg if you don't romance this LI you're ugly he is the best LI to ever exist" and even if you say it as a joke, let me tell you something: it's not cute and it makes you sound like an asshole. The problem isn’t romancing a main LI, the problem is being a dickhead to those who don’t and just don’t want to see their LI once every 3 weeks in a 5 seconds interaction, and want a good arc/plot that doesn’t seem like it was written with someone else in mind. It’s called empathy, you guys should try it sometimes. I’m not even going to talk about how much worse it is if you want to romance only women in any book, because that’s a whole other issue.

And before y’all come at me, Ethan is my LI in Open Heart and Beckett is my LI in TE. So no, I’m not just pointless hating on them or whatever.

I've continued my Obey Me! journey and I have new thoughts

It's been about a week from my "obey me! first impressions" post and while no one cares, I feel like I need to do a follow up or my head will explode. College came for me before I got up to date on the story (I'm currently on task 15-1, may the lord have mercy on my soul) but I've gotten plenty of spoilers because I'm impatient, so if you haven't played the game til, maybe skip this post? You've been warned.

Last time I started in mechanics, and for the most of it my opinion is the same. I've gotten used to the slow-ness by now and figured I'd just have to make do, but thank you very much to everyone who helped me with leveling up and how to make the most of what I have.

Story wise, the plot holes are endless, but it's mostly an otome thing I guess. They are all in school? Who is teaching those classes? Aren't they supposed to have graduated by now? Will they ever? Why were the angels and Solomon there before us? Are we like frozen in time in the human world or have we just gone missing there?

I decided that in order to just enjoy the game for what it is, I'll ignore these but it does bother me. You can find a lot of posts and theories here on tumblr on the topic and they discuss this way better than I could, so I'll just end it here: it's not a very consistent game, but if you don't think too hard about it you'll be fine.

On the part you probably are here for: the boys

I'll go in order, same as before

Luficer is... a lot. On my last post I talked about how his controlling nature and the kinky-dark-Jumin-Han-fanfic vibes I got from him kinda made him too scary for me. After playing some more I find myself to be a bit torn. On one hand, Lucifer seems like a very interesting LI to romance, he is sexy, yes, but he feels very lonely and vulnerable. The fact that he is the Avatar Of Pride, the eldest and most powerful is very attractive, again, in the same way Ikemen's Nobunaga is. A man who makes hard decisions in order to protect what is most important to him, who needs to be in control, who has a hard time opening up and does not feel like he is quite deserving of being happy. But on the other... I don't feel like Lucifer could ever come to respect us, which is a problem I too have with Nobunaga, although to a lesser degree. I always get this feeling that Lucifer loves us like a pet (maybe you're into that, I'm not really the pet-kink kind). Yes, he cares deeply for us but when it comes down to it he does not see us as equals. Our relation is not one of a partnership. At least not in his eyes. And why should he view it as a partnership? We are human, a non-magical human and he is an almighty demon lord. We are not the same. I was happy to ignore all this overthinking but it becomes unbearable at the two instances when he gets mad at us and lashes out. The way he speaks, the way he acts... absolutely unacceptable. You don't get to threaten me, talk down to me, nearly kill me and then say you respect me because you don't and I have yet to see a moment where he truly does show disgust for treating us like that or guarantees that it won't happen again. So what? You can't take talk back? Fuck you. Speaking of which, apparently he is the only one we get to fuck? I'm not sure if I want to. I mean, sure, I like some possessive dirty talk as much as the next gal and Lucifer is gorgeous, but I don't think my pride will allow me to bed him. Honestly I might just friendzone him for no reason other than to wound his pride at that. Yes bitch, get some fucking blue balls, you ain't getting any. Unless... well, you have 5 tasks to convince me you've earned it. Hop to it, Lucy.

Now that that's out of the way, Mammon:

I'm in love with this idiot.

Out of all the boys this is the one that most surprised me because while I did think he would grow more and more on me I did not see him being this important to me. I initially though of Mammon as the 707 of Obey Me, the one who is always in love with you in every route (don't get me started on this, I will be sobbing eventually), and in a way he is. But here's the twist: in MM, I'm not really a big Seven stan. I love Seven platonically and I thought that would be the case for Mammon as well. I was wrong. Maybe it's because Lucifer pissed me off so badly or because we didn't spend nearly as much time with Satan as we should (more on this later) but Mammon really caught my eye. I didn't think he was that cute, but I got one of his SSRs and use it quite often, so I started getting lots of Surprise Guest moments with him, and he just looks so beautiful in those? When the hearts appear and he looks at me with that soft expression jdhdbdndkdjd. He is just so sweet overall? He feels so genuine and human and real (in a way you don't really get with Seven until you're a few days into his route, when it was a bit late for me to love him as more than a friend). Mammon loves you for who you are, and while he does talk down to us, you can always tell he does not truly mean it. I can't think of an instance when he came even close physically threatening us and I don't think he would be able to. It makes me feel very very safe and warm and happy. Which is what love should always feel like: Love should feel restful. And maybe I'm thinking too much about this. It's just a game. But it doesn't make it any less true. I'm definitely kissing this man.

About Levi, not much. He still annoys me. I can kinda see the appeal for other people, but still a no-go for me. I'm not a fan of his personality or looks, I already said my piece on him.

So, Satan. I still absolutely adore Satan. He is the cutest and my go-to guy, but... his arc was kind of short I guess? We don't spend that much time with him so far (at least I don't think so) and the whole going on a rampage thing is a turn off (as explained above). But with Satan I cannot truly resent him, for one, he is the Avatar of Wrath, so is not like I didn't sign up for this. I can feel he does feel bad and conflicted about it so I did let it slide. But I can see some red flags? Like, I've got his Be You card and read the story and it just... kinda paints him in a bad light? Yes, babe, you've got a temper, I know but... idk man. Satan feels very caring and mischievous (again, the soft dom energy here man) but I don't feel as safe as I feel with Mammon. Maybe given due time I'll feel better. Still, he is one of my bias, lil blonde book bitch, I wanna get to know you better, let's make out.

If we don't spend enough time with Satan, we spend no time with Asmo. In my other post you can read me projecting all my hopes and past trauma on Asmo's character but so far, that's kind of all I've got. I don't have enough data or character development to have a real opinion on him, but if we do get routes I look forward to doing his. No kisses for now, sorry babe.

On Beel: Y'all commented about how he would turn out to be a complete sweetheart and I did not believe you. I should have. This man is so adorable. I'm vey romantically attracted to him and will do his route if I can, but the thirst is just... not here? Like please, lets hug and hold hands but I do not want to kiss you. He's a great guy, just not the guy for me? He does beat Lucifer though. He gives me safe vibes but, like, friend vibes. The one friend that you work out with, is your plus one when you're single and takes care of you when you're sad? That vibe. I don't think he would be very into me either. I'm a picky eater, grudge holder, horrible cook and overall bitchy gal. We're better off as friends.

Belphegor. He can choke. I haven't gotten to it yet, but I know he is gonna kill me. Human-hater, lying ungrateful bitch. He's hot, yes. Have I read smut with him? Yes. Would I fuck him? Yes. But in, like, a hate-sex kinda thing I guess. You've got 5 tasks to kill me and then convince me that somehow you are not the worst. Things aren't really looking up for this sleepy boi.

Also, does anyone know if it impacts in any way if you kiss (or I guess fuck on Lucifer's case) more than one boy? Like, will they be mad? Because I've got some impossible choices if it does matter. I'll report again once I'm done with the tasks, I guess?

Medea Rambles - The HATE on...

You’d think I would have other shit to talk about. In fact, I was planning on making a ramble on Jussie Smollett or finally post that review of Angels of Death. But then something came out on Friday.

Ohhhhhh, Jussie Smollett and Angels of Death can wait.

The second I saw that thumbnail, I knew I was going to be shattered. I knew that this list was going to upset me more than you could ever know. And me being the curious little idiot, I had to click on this clickbait and watch it.

I innocently thought that maybe, just maybe...HE would be spared and not mentioned.

Or if HE was mentioned, it would be in the higher numbers or an honorable mention.

And don’t get me wrong, a lot of these were characters that deserved every hatred in the world. Especially this bitch!

Okay, now that I got that out...

First of all, sorry for that outburst. I mean no ill-will towards the good folks at WatchMojo or the folks who vote for the entries. It’s just that when my favorite character gets attacked, I kinda turn into a monster ready to rip your head off.

If you do not know me, know this. I am a fan of Tracey on Pokemon. I am one of the big and notorious ones at that. I also am aware that I am in the severe, severe, severe, SEVERE minority in this. And divide that into a different digit because I was a fan of Tracey from second fucking one!

That’s right. I’m not one of those Johnny Come-Lately or Born Agains that gave him a second chance years later and came out to say, “You know what, Tracey wasn’t so bad. I actually like him.”

Yeah, where the fuck were you all those years he was getting shit on? NO, I’M NOT SORRY FOR THAT! For years he’s been given the reputation of him being less than nothing. Because he replaced Brock after 80 something episodes. Saying that Tracey has NO CHARACTER AT ALL outside of a sketchbook compared to Brock’s rainbow of charisma.

Why? Because he doesn’t hit on every piece of ass that walks his way?

Why? Because Brock’s backstory was touching and this guy has nothing?

Why? Because Brock looks SO FUCKING STYLISH while this guy looks generic’s watered down idiot cousin?

Why? Because Brock makes insightful comments to help Ash he’s seen as the second coming of the Buddha, while when Tracey does it, he’s seen as a wannabe to Brock’s greatness?

Well excuse me while I bow down to your all-mighty God of Brock. I didn’t realize I was in the presence of Jesus “Tap Dancing” Christ. I thought I was watching a show about a 10 year old catching monsters in a ball. I didn’t realize Brock was that big a deal. Excuse me while I wipe his ass with the world’s most delicate toilet paper!

WOW, I’m really shoving sarcasm down every orifice.

It’s true that Tracey was not the most developed character. In fact, he was only created because Japan thought western audiences would find Brock offensive due to his appearance. So they created an “Anglo-Saxon” character meant to look less-offending because the 1990s were weird. But once they realized the audience didn’t care about Brock’s appearance and that there was no controversy, they pulled Tracey faster than you can say, “They kicked me in the pokeballs.”

I mean, the Orange Islands were only 36 episodes long (give or take). They could have given us a little more with Tracey’s character to get the attention of wayward audience members. But what we got wasn’t all bad. We got a pretty decent episode with him and another Pokemon Watcher. And even the episode where he catches Scyther. And of course I was enthralled at the fact that he was an artist. But that wasn’t enough to get kids to like him and was sent to Oak’s lab to stay there.

Well, you crybabies got Brock back! They made sure of that! We wound up with like 300 more episodes of the same old song and dance. You happy now? You satisfied that your precious, little Brock is back? HUH? YOU HAPPY? ARE YOU FUCKING HAPPY NOW? HUH?! YOU HAPPY THAT HE CAN HIT ON EVERY WOMAN EVERY WEEK FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS?!

Yeah, I think you can tell how “happy” I was that Brock returned in time for Ash and Misty going to Johto. Because I got not only Johto, but all of Hoenn, the Battle Frontier in Kanto, and the entire region of Sinnoh to watch Brock be his “Brocky” self. And trust me, we didn’t get much character development with him until he was close to leaving the show.

Seriously, Tracey gets hate for giving us a break from the running gag of Brock hitting on women? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Brock. I just got tired of his antics...really fast. In some ways, I am happy Tracey didn’t wear out his welcome (with me). Other people say he wore out his welcome the second he was shown. But I’m glad we were given some time with him (even if it was a small amount) so that we don’t get tired of him.

I’ve spent 19 years trying to defend Tracey’s existence. He doesn’t deserve the hate just because he replaced Brock for a short amount of time. He doesn’t have to be like Brock. Tracey is his own person and I thought he was a breath of fresh air. And let’s face it, the Orange Islands was a fun arc. Plus it gave Ash an actual victory. Yeah, you probably forgot that too!

And even when Brock wore out his welcome and left, fans still had to find fault with the other secondary male leads. Cilan seen as annoying as a Nickelback song, Clemont was seen as a reject from The Big Bang Theory if that ever got an animated series, and Kiawe...well...no, Kiawe is awesome. And on the contrary, I found all three of these boys better than Brock. But that’s my opinion.

Sometimes a little change doesn’t hurt. Tracey’s change didn’t hurt the Pokemon anime. Fuck no, it didn’t! It gave us some pretty interesting gym leaders and battles (which were later “improved upon” with Alola), an astonishing six-on-six match for Ash, and even introduced us to double battles. That’s right, we got double battles here first! Screw you! We got a whole new experience in the pokemon world with this new travel companion. Which is more than what I can say about most of the other entries on that top 10 list. Characters like Shimotsuki, Pan, and Near were introduced and the anime took a turn for the weird or the worst. Seriously, how could Pan be better than Tracey? Dragon Ball GT happened!

I’ll never understand this world.

But yeah, this is just me unleashing a load of pint-up rage that’s been building. I know Tracey will continue to get hate on lists such as this because the people who vote on this stopped watching Pokemon mid-Johto and can’t count past the number 10. There are worse characters to hate on. Lay off Tracey!

Game of Thrones: Fav characters and characters I dislike

(Long post) Kay so, today is the premiere of the final season, guess I'll do my top Ten favorite characters(it is pretty much my favorite show of all time). Show only since I have yet to read the books. If you wonder my opinion on any character not mentioned I either forgot to mention them or I didn't think they really earned a spot on the lists. Yes I do censor things in this a bit buuut I want my web comic to have a wider audience so yea, deal with it. (SPOILER WARNING, at this point, if ur not caught up tho, you have only yourself to blame) Liked Honorable mentions: - Melisandre - before I found out bout the necklace, I had the HUGEST crush on her. She's evil, yes, but she adds a sense of wonder and magic to the show, so I still like her character (other than that necklace scene obviously). Plus Jon wouldn't be back if it weren't for her so haters gonna hate. - Bronn- if he doesn't get his damn castle...lol I doubt I need to say why this wise cracking sword for hire is a favorite, I think most people love him. - Yara Greyjoy - Badass pirate/Viking chick on the high seas? Hell yeah! Plus I love Greyjoy armor, I don't doubt Euron will probably kill her though. - Oberyn Martell - Awesome character, the Red Viper was fierce with a spear and even moreso with his attitude. Unfortunately his pride wound up being his undoing in the end, arguably one of the most effective deaths in the series. - Tormund Giantsbane - How can you not love this absolute bro? I don't even like Brienne and I ship them. Geniune badass. - Jorah Mormont - Lord of the Friend zone, his loyalty makes him one of my favs, not top ten tier though - Petyr Baelish: The events of Game of Thrones wouldn't have happened without this slimy bastard. He was smart and cunning (which made him fun to watch) and though his death was cool, the build up was kind of weak (weird Sansa/Arya storyline) Favorite characters: 10.) Ned Stark - Everyone's original favorite character, his death cemented that GOT wasn't f*ckin around. I mean, damn, still a brutal death scene to watch to this day. Props to Sean Bean for making his so awesome. He was honorable to a fault in a dishonorable world. 9.) Ramsey Bolton - Kay, so I might get some flack for this one, but he was a great bad guy. I mean he was legit terrifying and despicable! Made the Battle of the Bastards have an entirely different level of intensity than most of the battle scenes. Dude was an absolute monster, but unlike another widely disliked villain, this psycho got his own hands dirty instead of beckoning others to. His death scene was poetic but I kinda wanted it to be gorier. (I'm an edgelord though) 8.)Jon Snow - Awesome character, obviously I dig him, so why so low on the list? Honestly, there's characters I like more. But he's still really cool, definitely has the best fight scenes of any of the characters. WE BETTER SEE GHOST THIS SEASON THOUGH!! Lol things are gonna be hella awkward when he finds out Dany is his aunt, yet we still root for them as a couple...that's wincest for you hurr hurr hurr hurr (sorry) I could see him living in the end cus tbh killing him again would be repetitive BS. 7.)Tywin Lannister - Kay...so he died on the sh*tter (imo probably the worst place to die) AND he was an absolute d*ck to Tyrion...but dude, he was awesome. He literally has a song about him in the world of GOT that is used as a warning to others to not f*ck with him!! He took a house that was laughed at and turned it into one of the most feared houses in all of Westeros. That is pretty frickin cool. 6.) Cersei Lannister - Another one I'll get flack for but whatever lol She's cool! So what she shags her brother and is an awful human being? She's a badass! Did you SEE how she blew up all of her enemies in the court and solidified her queen status in one fell swoop? That was dope!! She's vile but very entertaining to watch. RIP the Tyrells. Probably gonna get choked out though by her brother like Maggie the frog predicted. (By my second favorite character no less) 5.) Daenerys Targaryen - Dany! One of my cats is named after her! I love this character. The dragons are amazing, she's cute, she's powerful, maybe a little insane cus of Targaryen madness, and she's overcome some amazing odds. Her storylines could be a little meh in the grand scheme of things but Emilia Clarke's portrayal has made a character that we really root for. I suspect she'll die personally by the Night King buuuuut we'll see. 4.)Tyrion Lannister -Tyrion's writing has gone down a bit in recent seasons but still, most people's favorite Lannister. His quick wit and resilience make him a solidified favorite. Still seems like the person you'd most wanna drink with. I'd be pretty damn surprised if he bit the dust. 3.) Arya Stark - My other cat is named after her and there's a good reason why, SHE'S BASICALLY BECOME A FREAKING FACE STEALING NINJA!!! She was always likeable and I think I've enjoyed almost every storyline she's been a part of (excluding her main one last season) Maisie Williams is a great actress and I hope to see more of her in the future. I doubt Arya will die, but based on that one trailer, things do seem rather bleak for her. Who knows...maybe GRRM wants a divorce... 2.) Jaime Lannister - Yes. This dude is my favorite Lannister. In case you couldn't tell, Lannister is my favorite house. He's really had the best redemption arc in the series. He went from a character I disliked to my second favorite. I predict he will be the one to kill his sister, what happens to him after that, idk. It'll be awkward when he meets Bran again though... 1.) The Hound (Sandor Clegane) - CLEGANEBOWL BETTER HAPPEN!! Kay so... admittedly I screamed like a little freaking girl when this character came back. He... HE'S JUST SO FREAKING COOL!! Admittedly being a 6 footer and a rather grumpy individual, I probably relate to him more than I'd like to admit. Probably will die, but as long as he fights his brother, I'll be a very happy edgelord. Characters I dislike: 10.) Sansa Stark - Kay so I just...I dislike her, I never liked her. I feel sorry for her, sure. She's gotten better over time, sure. I still see her as very entitled and kinda whiny/bratty. She'll probably die. If not I won't be disappointed, still though, not a fan of Sansa. It was cool how she killed Ramsey, tho again, do wish the scene was gorier. 9.) Robb Stark - Ned Stark 2.0 but way less cool. Nuff said. I was okay with his death in the Red Wedding. Shouldn't have made a promise you weren't gonna commit to. Even if Walder Frey is a d*ck. 8.) Catelyn Stark - She was just such a jerk to Jon Snow and Tyrion, seriously. Even moreso in the books from what I have read of them. She got on my nerves. Honestly, I don't feel like Lady Stoneheart would've added much in terms of storyline. 7.) Brienne of Tarth: I find her annoying. Sure, her fight with the hound was FREAKING COOL, but she's kinda too self righteous for her own good. Duty is her thing and all but she is really not good at holding up to her vows. Still ship her and Tormund though. 6.) Theon Greyjoy - hated this dude, then felt sorry for him, now I roll my eyes at him. Honestly, Greyjoys other than Yara are pretty meh characters. Good for him finally regaining figurative cajones. Doubt he'll save his sister though, or survive the White Walkers for that matter. 5.) Euron Greyjoy - this one is a shame cus I hear the book character is amazing. Feels like a pretty generic bad guy of the week type for a show with outstanding villains. Funny like here or there, but kinda a weak character overall. Theon will probably kill him, though I'd love to see a twist where he kills Theon. 4.) Walder Frey - Old dude that got what was coming to him, props to the guy who plays Filch, portrayed two characters who were absolutely despicable. I doubt I really have to list the ways this cowardly character was despicable. Awesome death scene though. Winter came for House Frey. 3.) Shae - Grrrr. The actual actress I feel very sorry for cus I've heard her story, but man this character. Dumb but smart enough to screw over Tyrion. For personal reasons, I really hate this character, reminds me of people I've known. 2.) Tommen and Myrcella Baratheon - Most. Useless. Lannisters. Ever. I'm a Lannister fan so you could see why I roll my eyes so hard with these two. Tommen rolled over so hard you might as well have called him a wheel. And Myrcella was just kinda there, admittedly sad to watch her death scene though (pretty much moreso because it was the only time Jaime was really able to connect with his daughter) 1.) Joffrey Baratheon - Everyone probably saw this coming. Joffrey is that kid on the playground that'd hit you, you'd hit back, they'd start crying and get you in trouble. Everybody knew that kid, I think that's why everyone hates this character so. But man, his death scene was soooo satisfying. Props to the Jack Gleason for making him so horrible. There ya have it. My opinions on GOT characters. Freaking excited for tonight's premiere!! WINTER IS HERE!!

The First Barstool Sports Hug Piece

For those who don’t know, I will be participating in Barstool Idol Week next week. After watching a girl who stole my name compete last year, I built up the courage to record my audition tape. I’ve been a Stoolie far too long to let another girl take the job I should have. And when I got the email that I had made it to the next round and would be going to New York (ew) to pitch myself in front of the panel of judges, I almost melted into the ground, Alex Mack style.

I put myself out there in front of the entire Barstool HQ office and a panel of Dave, Francis and KFC. I never imaged I’d actually get a single yes, let alone 2 (Francis, do better). The fact that both Dave and KFC gave me a thumbs up meant a lot because I’ve been fans of them both for so long and because it had nothing to do with me being a girl (am I supposed to call myself a woman?) I just held it together long enough to make at least one joke stick, and here I am.

That’s because it’s SCARY. It’s fucking scary to put yourself out there in front of a primarily young, male audience with keyboard courage. I can barely do it on Bumble let alone in real life.

It’s scary for anyone, to be comfortable in your own skin with your own weird quirks, but even scarier when you’re a 30 year old woman who doesn’t look like the girls posted every day on the smokeshow account. Literally...that’s the joke that got me to the next round.

I’ve read the comments on other videos and blogs and I really didn’t want to see what people would say about me. I’m not a size 0 so I knew the fat jokes were coming. They don’t bother me. If I really want to work at Barstool, I wouldn’t survive if those comments got to me. Plus, I’ve watched enough of Glenny’s burger reviews to know I wasn’t getting that feedback just because I’m a girl. The Stoolie commenters don’t see gender, they just find your biggest insecurity and sum it up in one succinct comment section. I’m comfortable with who I am and there’s nothing that anyone could write that would take away my excitement for the opportunity for my dream job at Barstool.

There has always been a lot of controversy surrounding Barstool Sports. Anyone reading this doesn’t need me to explain. Everyone has heard the ‘racist, mysoginsitic, privileged frat guy’ angle. Trust me, explaining what I’m auditioning for and why I want this job so badly to my family and friends who don’t follow Barstool has been interesting. And if you have never followed or listened to any Barstool content on a regular basis, you’ll never get it.

But I get it. In a sea of hit pieces that have been written over the past 10 years, I want to come out with my very own hug piece. This isn’t aimed at helping my chances to win Barstool Idol, but I won’t be upset if it does. If I have to answer the calling to be the modern day Joan of Arc, I will certainly step up to the plate.

It has nothing to do with me being a confirmed woman (don’t make me prove it). Lately there have been too many hit pieces written by women in journalism trying to be martyrs for feminism and take down the Barstool Sports empire. They claim Barstool has only hired a female CEO, the baddest bitch Erika Nardini, and others like Kayce Smith, Liz Gonzalez, Ria&Fran to try and change perception of the Barstool brand. The “I have a black friend so I can’t be racist” tactic. These accusations could not be further from what feminism is supposed to be about nor could they be further from the truth.

I’d even like to argue specifically that Pres may actually even be a feminist himself. Feminism is wanting men and women to be treated equally and no one does that more than Portnoy. You might not like what he said to Ria about aging in Barstool years or about Sam Ponder’s kids but the truth is he is equally as critical of men (the list is long). He even fired an employee for calling our female leader Rihanna fat which didn’t get enough credit. Unless you are part of the illustrious Team Portnoy, no one is safe. Not even Tom Brady’s son.

These women were hired because they deserve it. Because they are funny and smart and have their own voice. Everyone that was hired at Barstool is a result of their individuality, but it must be really hard for the haters to realize that they just don’t have it. So instead they are stuck at some fading news outlet that will be bankrupt within the year.

Take for instance Megan Greenwell’s hit piece on Erika Nardini.

The reason Nardini does these interviews, of course, is not to say something interesting about the company she runs or about being a woman in the male-dominated field of sports media, but to launder Barstool’s image.

Nothing like tearing other women down to earn your feminist stripes, Megan. I’m sorry, I didn't know Erika’s responsibility as the CEO of a media company was to be a spokesperson for feminism? In fact, Erika’s style as well as the fabulous cashmere sweater she wore in this interview radiate girl power. She Barstool interviewed 74 other candidates for the position and Erika was hired because she was the best person for the job. It’s not fair to try and take that away from her.

In fact, this description of Erika from Megan was nothing short of inspirational to me. If I win Barstool Idol, I vow to use these exact words to commemorate the occasion.

She trots out the same stories about growing up a Patriots fan and how her female friends abandoned her after she took the Barstool gig, and says she’s proud of what the company has accomplished. She likes to mention there were 74 other applicants for her job, all of whom were men. She tells obsequious interviewers that Barstool is successful because it “doesn’t have an agenda,” and on the rare cases in which she’s asked about the chauvinism that is very much its agenda, she turns it into some meta-commentary.

Despite the twitter beefs and Deadspin “articles”, there has never been one case of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior towards women in the 10+ years of Barstool Sports. Not one female that currently works or has ever worked at Barstool has ever come forward with a negative experience. The only time I’ve been offended by any piece of Barstool content is the aforementioned Rihanna incident because I come from the religion of BadGalRiri-ism.

I can’t fit them all in one blog but Laura Wagner, Elika Sadeghi, Britni de la Cretaz and all the others are not heroes. They are fighting an unnecessary fight. If any one of them stepped foot into Barstool HQ, I think they'd be shocked at what they find.

My experience in the few hours I spent at Barstool was alarmingly positive. I actually kept thinking “why is everyone being so nice to me?” since it was such a 180 from every experience I’ve had since I don't know, 5th grade? I felt a Spice Girl level of girl power--but only if I get to be Ginger Spice because IMO she was the coolest and also the hottest.

While I was waiting for my audition, unknowingly sweating through my chambray dress, Ebony was hyping me up. The first thing I remember after making it to Idol Week is walking by Liz smiling and saying congrats. Please don’t make me stand next to her but Ria even blessed me with her support as a fellow Chick in the Office. We’ll see what happens at Idol Week, but that’s just the beginning.

Safe to say my dream is now to be the subject of a Deadspin hit piece. As I get ready to compete against 15 white guys for a chance to work at Barstool, I know that sadly being a girl isn’t enough to win me the job. The burden I bear is a tough one, but I want to do it for all the female stoolies out there that #DefendTheWall. There’s a new brand of feminism in town folks and it’s happening at Barstool Sports.

Pleeeease,Kim and Theo are so funny every week,they put a smile on my face,even if they didn’t love this episode as much as last week’s!Theo saying Better Half was bc Tara firstly,then Luann and Cherry😍They ship J/T a bit right?Theo was like Jax just want to protect Tara but he is acting like a sociopath,and Kim yeah I almost believe he didn’t kill Kohn😆Omg I died when Kim was praising them in the bedroom scene like you can tell how close they were before she left,they know each other so well😍when he was like they just killed a guy together,who needed to go guys,sorry,I think he was talking to the haters who have been excusing Kohn for weeks😄maybe I’m projecting though😂I chocked when Theo commented on the police sketches,who did them?Salvador Dalí🤣It was Kim birthda,and he was,ILY you bro,stop singing😂People are so silly telling Theo there’s no way Hale had a thing for Tara,are they ok?it’s obvious he did😑🙄I so agree with them on Ally Walker and Taryn Manning,both were amazingly talented😍they are gonna have a guest for the finale...It has to be Ryan or maybe Dayton right??😄

Yes!! They are so easy to listen too! They make me laugh and I just love thei energy in every ep, I’m so glad they made this podcast 🥰. Yes!! Theo immediately was like Tara, he’s defintiely a Jax/Tara shipper! He mentioned the Tax HS fanfiction in this ep again too 😆. Yes! They were so shocked when Jax just so casual about Kohn! I kinda got that vibe from Kim too!! This is random, but I’m kinda bummed they didn’t mention Tara’s iconic line when she’s talking to Stahl. She basically gives Tara her whole history and goes “that’s very impressive” and Tara doesn’t skip a beat and says “I know, I was there” 😂. That’s such an underrated moment, I just love sassy Tara so much! Man I hope he was calling out the haters 🤣! That was so funny and Theo was so right!! I kind of forgot about the sketches and they really were so on point, especially Bobby’s 😂. Hale definitely had a thing for Tara and I’m so upset that we never got to see that arc play out, you can tell they were setting it up! He was so quick to defend her when he saw her pic on the wall, even Stahl comments on his reaction! I think Theo’s a lowkey Tara/Hale shipper too, it’s okay so am I 😆. Yes!! Ally Walker in the final scene of the ep!! Her delivery was so good!! I love Taryn too, I’m also upset that we didn’t get to see more of Cherry. Idk it kinda made me sad when Theo compared Halfsack and Cherry’s goodbyes to Romeo and Juliet’s goodbye. Like they say goodbye thinking they’re going to see eachother again, but little do they know that that’s the last time they’ll ever see eachother 😭. I was also dying when the talked about Unser in this ep, Dayton was hystericall! I also love the line when Cherry asks if he’s a cop and he’s like “I don’t even know what I am” 😂. I was thinking Ryan or Dayton too!!

12x12 Episode Review - Still Screeching...this time about the colour “Peach”.

I gave my 12x10 episode review the title “Pterodactyl Screeching into the Void” because I was so happy about it I couldn’t help but scream with glee at practically every moment. I also said this: “I feel like there is so much to talk about in this episode that fandom will be chewing on it for months if not years to come.” I still believe this, I just didn’t expect that two episodes later I would be reliving this exact same thoughts and feelings. I considered 12x10 to be a one off, a glorious gift to fandom wrapped in a big destielicious bow. Clearly, we celebrate our fandom birthday only two weeks before fandom Christmas because we just got ANOTHER gift wrapped in an even BIGGER destielicious bow and I can hardly contain my glee. (baring in mind fandom Christmas falls on the tenth anniversary of tumblr and close to valentines day I can’t help but feel this was planned - PRESENTS ALL AROUND)

But anyway. Lets talk meta. Once again I am very late to the party as I doubt I will be posting this any earlier than Saturday evening when you have probably all been talking this to death for the past two days. But eh, I’m gonna do my thing and hope you all agree, or aren’t bored by now if everything I talk about is stuff already gone over by my fellow very talented meta writers.

Starting with the obvious, Director Dick Speight Jr and Writer Davy Perez made this episode an homage to Tarantino movies. Specifically Reservoir Dogs which has so many ties to this episode both visually and subtextually that it is kind of difficult to keep track of my thoughts on it. I have to confess, I hadn’t ever watched Reservoir Dogs all the way through prior to watching the episode because it never really interested me. However, after watching the episode for the first time Friday lunch time I decided that it was in my best interests as a meta writer to give it a go. I watched it and tried to take in everything Tarantino was saying and doing with this movie…

Being a meta writing, destiel shipper with heteronormative goggles permanently removed since watching this show guess what the first thing I picked up on was? That’s right Mr White and Mr Orange… what WAS going on there anyway? Because these guys didn’t know each other very long but they became VERY close by the time of the heist. Poor Freddie and Larry. Such doomed tragic lovers... do we have a ship name for them yet? Frarry? Leddie? Or maybe just “peach” (hence my title)

I believe that when Perez was writing this episode he had a SPN character in mind for each character in RD (mostly anyway). Cas is obviously Mr Orange (the bleeding out from the stomach thing gives it away as does Davy’s tweet here. Here is who I think the rest of the characters are supposed to be:

Dean – Mr White (duh)

Mary – Mr Pink

Wally – Mr Brown

Sam – Nice Guy Eddie maybe? I struggled here

Crowley – I wanna say Joe. (though I also kinda think Ketch would be Joe here… its not too obvious)

Remiel – Mr Blonde (“yellow” hair)

THE TRAGIC LOVERS/ THE WOUNDED ANGEL

How amazing was this episode for Dean and Cas? I know people were getting upset about the diner scene being Dean trying to set Cas up but this was all posturing on Dean’s part partly for Wally and partly because he was bristled with jealousy. Someone needs to get Dean’s face when the waitress first calls Cas “handsome” and use the “conceal don’t feel” moment from Frozen because that is EXACTLY what was going on there.

“My Devastatingly handsome friend here” Really Dean? Mandy had already called Cas handsome you don’t need to talk him up to her now she has already shown her interest. Your crush is showing Dean.

But lets skip past the diner scene because there is SO MUCH more to talk about. A big part of this very busy story is about Cas getting injured and the Winchesters reaction to that. It seems like the writers are going out of their way right now to show the audience that Cas is SUPER IMPORTANT SO SHUT THE HELL UP SAYING HE ISNT. THANK YOU ANDREW DABB. THANK YOU DAVY PEREZ, THANK YOU DICK SPEIGHT JR. THIS IS EVERYTHING TO US! I meant it when I said I was *sipping Cas hater tears* right now. I get so happy when justice is served.

We never do find out if anything happened between Cas and the waitress… I suppose you could say it was added as a “no homo” to the “I love you” from later on in the episode, but I think it was completely non relevant. They immediately leave the diner to go after the demon. So no hot sex with random waitress for Cas Though honestly, he showed no interest at all. Dean did all the work for him and all Cas did was give her a sniff to see if the whole “smells like food”thing was true. Its kinda hilarious.

Anway, cue Cas getting stabbed by the Lance.

This is such a beautiful shot. I just wanted to say that. Also, this is a demon with a weird hobby for night fishing who happens to make Cas his “catch” on this particular night. This is the second time Cas has been the “fish” in this show, and well:

As soon as Dean realises Cas is hurt, he takes on Mr Whites role of being the one to inspect the wound, to reassure Cas that he will be okay, to just plain deny his dying. Its beautiful to watch Dean get so upset about this. Once again his reaction is so very different from Sam and Mary’s – both of whom are incredibly upset don’t get me wrong – but Dean’s reactions, and Deans emotions, are where the camera focuses the most. Why? Why do you all bloody think? (Remember that our Director this episode calls himself “the Prophet of Destiel” so I think we are in good company here guys).

Still being the husband Dean. “I’ve had worse” “Oh yeah? When” Urgh the whole exchange is so touching really. Dean covers the wound up to stop Cas from looking at it, tries to reassure him. The LIP QUIVER thank you Jensen for those small but exceptionally well thought out motions.

His actual face is terrified, every one of these tiny reactions is Jensen at his best and I have to send Dick Speight Jr a fruit basket for capturing each and every one.

Dean’s reaction to Crowleys “hey, I was quite fond of the choir boy too” with his “shut up, shut up” because he is showing his anger. He is in denial, and is handling it with anger against Crowley. Because Crowley knows how he feels about Cas. Hence his response. It was another subtle but beautiful moment highlighting how Dean reacts differently when Cas is in danger.

And then we have CAS’S SPEECH. I know we have all been flailing about this since the episode aired as lets be honest it is THE BEST thing about this episode. I have watched it so many times, picked it apart and just cried over it enough times in the past few days to know that this beautiful moment means EVERYTHING.

“Thank you, thank you, knowing you, its been the best part of my life. And the things that we’ve shared together, they have changed me.”

Notice how Mary looks at Dean here. She doesn’t know their history, but at this point in the season I do think that Mary suspects something is between Dean and Cas. Her reactions speak far louder than words (just like her stubborn son).

Because of course it does. Dean’s face here is so very perfect for the emotional turmoil going on inside him. Cas says that the things they have shared together have “changed him” as in for the better, Mary looks at Dean and Dean looks BROKEN because yes he has changed Cas “The very touch of you corrupts” and I doubt that Dean has forgotten that somehow, especially when we had a reminder of it just two episodes ago. Dean thinks he has ruined Cas and this moment was very telling of that.

I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I WROTE ABOUT CAS’S ARC AND WHAT WAS COMING FOR HIM AND THIS IS FUCKING IT YOU GUYS THIS IS SO SO SO IMPORTANT I AM CRYING.

I am probably gonna devote a separate post just to this tbh because I can hardly stand it.

Look, I have decided I am not going to debate the “I love you” here. It is ambiguous, on second, third, forth and fifth viewing I will admit that, but I have two asks in my inbox both speaking kinda negatively about this confession so I will address this separately there. At the end of the day, with everything else we have been told about Cas up until this point, it can easily be read as a romantic “I love you” to Dean just as it can be read as a platonic one. I have chosen to see the romantic interpretation, because Dean’s reaction was first.

Anyway, the fact is that the way Dean reacts to the whole Cas dying thing is different to the way Sam and Mary react. There is a distinction, just like there is a distinction between “I love you” and “I love all of you”.

See, Sam is able to remain calm “hang in there alright. What do we do?” and Dean? Dean can’t talk. He is close to tears, he just looks BROKEN and looks down. He can’t even watch Cas die. This is once again further proof (that we have been getting since 11x10 btw) that the brothers view Cas differently. To Sam, Cas is a friend, a brother, he loves him, but he isn’t so very emotionally compromised when Cas is in danger. Dean? Oh Dean breaks. Every. Time. This is why we keep going on about these things. See we don’t think Sam thinks less of Cas, its just that he is not in love with Cas like Dean is. When you are in love with someone, it hurts more. This distinction has constantly been thrown at us in the show. It is important.

Then the HANDS urgh I love anything Handsy in this show… so much symbolism.

Guys. GUYS. What was it Bob Singer said? “Cas is a nomad, he doesn’t have a home.”

WELL THANKS BOB SINGER BUT I GUESS YOU HAD A CHANGE OF HEART OR DABB TOTALLY OVERRULED YOU! We know for 100% certain that Cas’s home is the bunker. He lives there. He belongs there. This is such a far cry from 9x03 I am so so happy. It is undeniable. Cas lives at the Bunker.

Then at the end, as if I didn’t need my freaking heart:

“I almost lost one of my boys”

MARY HAS ONLY BEEN AROUND FOR A FEW MONTHS AND CAS IS ONE OF HER BOYS! SHE SEES HIM AS ONE OF HER BOYS! IS THIS FANFICTION? WHO SOLD THEIR SOUL FOR THIS? This is proof enough that Cas is part of the family. This episode is the gift that keeps on giving.

Now that I have screeched about all of that, I just want to quickly talk about the mirrors in Reservoir Dogs. Because as I said earlier, Dean and Cas are our Mr White and Mr Orange. Why is this? Because if you watch the scene where Mr White comforts Mr Orange in the warehouse you will find some similarities between that and Dean and Cas’s exchange in this episode.

Look I will admit I watched this film once (and then watched these few scenes a couple of extra times) so I am no expert on it, but as far as I am concerned, this is quite obvious subtext. The film starts and ends with these two guys wrapped in each others arms, dying, bloody, and very close. Larry (Mr White) stands up for Freddie (Mr Orange) the whole way through the movie. He is the only one who doesn’t doubt him. Everyone else is suspicious of Mr Orange being the cop and it all builds up to the moment where they all point their guns at each other because Mr White risks his life to save Mr Orange from Joe’s gun. He goes against his friends for this guy he barely knows… the big question is WHY? Well, it makes a hell of a lot more sense if maybe Mr White had fallen in LOVE with Mr Orange… because love makes you go against logic. So it obviously makes the film all the more tragic to know that Mr Orange WAS the undercover cop and basically breaks Mr Whites heart in that final scene (because he doesn’t want to die in the arms of the guy he clearly loves knowing there is still one big lie between them.)

How does this relate to Dean and Cas? Because even though Davy Perez only wrote very loose connections between the other SPN character and the Res Dogs cast, (except Mary blatantly being Mr Pink and getting away with the loot at the end) he very CLEARLY wrote parallels for White and Orange in Dean and Cas. The guys with the homoerotic subtext in Res Dogs, get the homoerotic subtext in SPN as well. Both sadly remain subtextual, but the parallels are blatantly obvious.

This episode has given us enough to write about in terms of destiel for the next YEAR let along the next week. I can hardly keep up with it all. And this isn’t even the rest of this beautiful episode which after 6 re-watches I still haven’t tired of yet.

MR KETCH/ MOTHER MARY

“Tell me a story”

Honestly my first thought was Metatron. But then this makes sense since I think the British Men of Letters are Dabb’s self-insert character. Like Metatron was Carver’s self-insert character and Chuck was Kripke’s self-insert character. Did Gamble have a self-insert character? Because we are getting so many call backs to season 6 this season that I feel like it should be acknowledged. Anyway, we don’t actually know that he is talking to Mary at this point, but a lot of this episode takes place from Mary’s POV. Mary is incredibly conflicted at this point, but I do think that she believes they are doing good. I also feel like the line “asking the wrong questions” is important. This season is all about communication, miscommunication and a lack of communication. If only they would all TALK TO EACH OTHER.

Excellent use of the Pulp Fiction mystery brief case glow (WHAT COULD IT BE?)

One of the most shocking things in this episode was how Mary refused to reveal that she had stolen from Ramiel to save Cas’s life. She sneaked around behind the boys’ backs, wouldn’t tell them that she is working with the BMOL, stole the mystery item and lied to her sons about it. This is all very Cas in season 6. Mary knows that what she is doing is wrong, she must do, otherwise she would have spoken to her sons about it (lack of communication). We keep talking about how this is a season 6 rewrite, but this time Mary is in Cas’s place, this couldn’t have been more obvious come the end of the episode with this outfit:

Also this line:

“Anything happens like that again, anything, and I will burn you down”

Made me think of this line:

“If you touch a hair on their heads, I will tear it all down. Our arrangement. I’m still an angel, and I will bury you.” Said to Crowley by Cas in 6x20.

We have ourselves a very interesting little parallel here. Mary is betraying her boys and it is not gonna go well for her, if season 6 is anything to go on. What could possibly happen? Well, the BMOL want to rid the world of all Supernatural beings for a start, and Mary seems to share that mentality. The fact that she wouldn’t give up the Colt to save Cas’s life also makes me rather concerned… but she did call him “one of my boys” so I dunno what to think. Is Cas potentially in danger here? We have speculated this before, after seeing the way both Ketch and Mick seem to hungrily eye Cas up all the time. Whilst its funny to think that they both just wanna jump his bones, the truth of the matter is that they probably wanna string him in a display cabinet like Catrina’s butterflies in 12x11. Could Mary’s refusal to hand over the Colt at that point be foreshadowing for her using Cas as a bargaining tool later in the season? Could she betray him to the BMOL? I don’t want to think that Mary would be capable of such a thing, but like my Evil!Mary anon keeps saying, something isn’t right with her, and she doesn’t have the Winchester’s long history with Cas (or the Colt) to truly understand what they mean to each other. Mary’s reactions to Cas’s confession seemed more like surprise than anything else, especially the way she turns to look back at her sons when Cas talks about the “things they have shared”.

If there is one thing I have been completely unable to predict with this season it is where the mytharc plot is going. There are so many elements at play, and now we have the return of the Colt and Mary’s betrayal to deal with as well. This is only going to escalate into something very bad, and Sam and Dean are going to be royally burned at the end of it. Could it come down to a choice? Cas vs Mary? So far this season Dabb has gone out of his way to prove that Cas is one of the family, and now we finally have got to a point where Cas himself believes this. Could this all have been to put him on equal grounds with Mary only to have the Winchester’s make a Schindler’s List style decision later down the line? How horrifying a thought. I hope it doesn’t come to that, but this whole situation with Mary has got me very worried.

THE PRINCE/ MR CROWLEY

Oh boy was this awesome. Firstly, I love the character of Ramiel. He was straight out of a Tarantino movie with his “couldn’t give a damn” attitude and his constantly calm manner. He was a cold psychopath and I loved it. Also he was our “Mr Blonde” with his yellow eyes. (I am glad that no one lost an ear in this episode – though I am suddenly very much aware that this already happened in SPN previously… honestly we will soon get to a point where everything has been done on SPN. This show is insane.) The whistling, the fishing, the spear, the “you mind explaining why you broke into my house!?” so smoothly after being shot. I think he was one of the best villains we have had in a while. I would have liked to see more of him. Interestingly, when I watched the promo shots of him I was reminded of Alistair. I am not sure why other than I saw similarities between the actors, but the fact that he was actually a “prince of hell” and a call back to Azazel was amazing.

NEW LORE! Good new lore too rather than retcons that don’t make much sense! Finding out some origin stories about Azazel (also HOW AWESOME was that yellow eyes reveal to Mary!) The first demons after Lilith created by Lucifer had yellow eyes. HOW LONG have we been speculating about the colour of demon eyes and what it means?

“Asmodeus has his hobbies, Dagon has her toys” TWO NEW SCARY DEMONS who we will totally be seeing in the coming episodes now… probably to avenge their dear departed brother. We know that Dagon has taken an interest in Kelly Kline and Lucifer’s baby so we will probably be seeing her next episode - for some reason I totally picture her as an Ellie Driver character… probably because eye patches are suddenly “a thing” in this show and also nurses outfit/protecting the baby mama… yeah… This is my Dagon currently:

Anyway, we are back to “yellow eyed demon” levels of bad and I love all the call backs to the previous seasons. Season 6 is predominantly the season we are rewriting in season 12, but there have also been major callbacks to season 4 and to the early seasons now to the point that I partly think this is Dabbs rewrite of the entire first half of the show.

Lets talk about Crowley, because OMG CROWLEY in this episode! Crowley is like the epitome of “I don’t care” (actually cares a lot) bless him. First of all, we get a CROWLEY ORIGIN STORY (bless you Davy Perez) because how long have we all been wondering how he managed to claim the throne? He was given it by the rightful heir.

What is the most amazing part of this, which gives such a HUGE insight into Crowley’s character is this:

Which is his reaction to finding out that Cas was stabbed with the lance. The subtle shock, and sorrow on his face, before he composes himself. I just… CROWLEY! Where is that feelings gif?

I know we joke about the Crowley x dean x cas love triangle, but with this season calling back to season 6 and Cas and Crowley’s original partnership, with all the history between Crowley and Dean and now THIS? Evidence that Crowley cares. A lot. What makes it even better is that while everyone else was sitting around helplessly watching Cas die, Crowley DID SOMETHING. He BROKE THE LANCE…. Seemingly one of the most powerful weapons in creation, a weapon that he could have used to KILL LUCIFER and he BROKE IT FOR CAS. CROWLEY SAVED CAS’S LIFE FOR ABSOLUTELY NO PERSONAL GAIN WHATSOEVER. CROWLEY CARES ABOUT CAS.

This is just wonderful. What does this mean for Crowley now? He clearly cares about them, but they still reject him mostly. Will this act of compassion mean that the Winchesters accept Crowley as a part of their group from now on? Or will Lucifer’s words poison his mind?

Because lets talk about that for a moment. We all knew that Lucifer wasn’t in the cage… Crowley has him locked up in a small cage in his throne room. This will not end well. Lucifer is the master of deception, he uses his words to manipulate people and with Crowley’s weakness being the Winchesters (including Cas) Lucifer could easily use this against him.

“I know that look. Sam and Dean have got you down. I still can’t believe you’re working for the dukes of haphazard. Do you really think they care about you? Think about it Crowley, they kill your kind. It’s in their blood. You know, you know. Its only a matter of time before they come for yoooouuu”.

This is Lucifer already working his magic. His forked tongue whispering things into Crowley’s ear that will slowly poison his mind and turn him against the Winchesters again. I don’t know what is coming up for Crowley, but like with Mary, I can’t see it going well for him. I am so excited to find out what happens next.

OVERALL

This episode is one of my favourites. I mean in the WHOLE SERIES. It was wonderful. I enjoyed every minute. The writing, the direction, the editing, the music cues were spot on. Richard Speight Jr NAILED IT. I hope he directs again. This season just keeps getting better and better. There is so much going on I can hardly get my thoughts in order, but to summarise:

We have two new yellow eyed demons who are gonna be PISSED when they realise their brother has been killed.

We have Lucifer trapped in a cage poisoning Crowley’s mind.

The BMOL have the Colt. THE COLT.

Mary is the betrayer in the midst. She is working for the BMOL behind her son’s backs.

Kelly Kline is still missing with Lucifer’s baby. Dagon has “taken an interest”.

The “cosmic consequences” are still outstanding.

Cas loves his family. His family is canonically the Winchesters. He is no longer an “angel of the lord/heaven”.

The Winchesters love Cas. Canonically. They would die for him.

Crowley puts the Winchesters and Castiel above his own need for power and personal gain.

Destiel is canon

Okay so I may have added the last point in as a joke, but we are so not far off guys. We have the building blocks in place. Slowly but surely we are getting there and we are already so much further along than I would have hoped. I do think that we will get an undeniable confession of romantic love from Cas’s side at least this season. If not by him directly, then by someone else (my money is on Crowley or Mary) pointing it out to him and him not denying it. Basically, we are in a really positive place. Dabb is doing a brilliant job of answering all our questions, questions we have had for YEARS about plot holes and mystery points left open to interpretation. I am convinced that this will only get better. God I love him. I always knew Andrew Dabb would do an amazing job when he first took over as showrunner, but in my wildest dreams I didn’t think he would give us so much so soon. We are truly blessed right now. This series has majorly improved since the atrocity of season 10. they seem to have LEARNT from that . This is wonderful. I couldn’t be happier.
