Unraveling the Wonders of the Neuron and Brain (Part 1)

Anatomy of a Neuron

Neurons are the building blocks of the nervous system, responsible for transmitting information throughout your body. They have a unique structure, consisting of three main parts:

Cell Body (Soma): This is like the neuron's control center. It contains the nucleus, which houses the cell's DNA and controls its activities.

Dendrites: These branch-like extensions protruding from the cell body are the neuron's antennae. They receive signals from other neurons or sensory receptors, transmitting these signals to the cell body.

Axon: Think of the axon as the neuron's transmission line. It's a long, slender, cable-like structure that carries signals away from the cell body, toward other neurons or target cells.

At the end of the axon, you'll find axon terminals, where neurotransmitters are released to communicate with the next neuron or target cell.

Physiology of a Neuron

Neurons are all about transmitting information through electrical impulses and chemical signals. Here's a quick rundown:

Resting Membrane Potential: Neurons have a resting state where the inside is negatively charged compared to the outside due to the uneven distribution of ions (like sodium and potassium) across the cell membrane. This creates a potential difference called the resting membrane potential.

Action Potential: When a neuron receives a strong enough signal (usually from dendrites), it can generate an action potential—a rapid change in membrane potential. This electrical signal travels down the axon like a wave.

Synaptic Transmission: When the action potential reaches the axon terminals, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters into the synapse, the tiny gap between neurons. These chemicals bind to receptors on the next neuron, initiating a new electrical signal.

The Marvelous Brain

Now, let's shift our focus to the brain—the command center of your entire nervous system. 🌟

Your brain consists of various regions, each with specific functions. Here are a few key areas:

Cerebrum: This is the largest part and is divided into two hemispheres, each responsible for various cognitive functions like thinking, memory, and sensory perception.

The myth of Dionysos (7)

I covered before two articles of the "Dictionary of Literary Myths". Here I bring you another loose translation of a thorough article covering Dionysos' legend, myth and god-self. However this time, it is an article coming from Félix Guirand's "General Mythology". It is a bit of an old article - originally written in 1937 - so some elements might be lacking or outdated, but Guirand's book and studied stayed a very influential and referential work when it came to mythology studies for a very long time, up to the early 21st century, so there is a legitimate interest to put it alongside other Dionysos articles throughout this series.

In the section about Greek mythology, Félix Guirand classifies Dionysos right after Demeter among the "earth gods" and "agragrian deities".

I/ Traits and attributes

Dionysos (etymologically speaking, the “Zeus of Nysa” seems, by analogies of his attributes and legends, to be the Greek version of the Vedic god “Soma”. His cult seems to have been born in Thrace: brought to Boeotia by settling Thracian tribes, it was then carried to the island of Naxos by Boeotian colonizers, before it finally started spreading over the entire archipelago, before returning to the continental Greece – first in the Attic region, and later in the Peloponnese. The character that was the primitive Dionysos complexified itself by borrowing traits from foreign deities – most notably the Cretan Zagreus, the Phrygian Sabazios, and the Lydian Bassareus. As such, Dionysos kept gaining new domains and powers as his characterization grew. It seems that Dionysos was originally simply a god of wine. From the spirit of wine, he became a god of vegetation and hot humidity, and from this point he evolved into the god of pleasures, then into the god of civilization, and finally, according to the Orphic traditions, he reached his apex as a manifestation of the supreme deity.

II/ Cult and depictions

Dionysos was honored throughout all of Greece, but the nature of his festivities and holidays varied depending on the regions and eras. One of his most ancient celebrations was the Agrionia, that came from Boeotia (most specifically Orchomenos): in its primitive form, the Bacchants killed a young boy in honor of the god. Human sacrifices were also practiced at Chios and Lesbos – they were however replaced by ritual flagellation. In the Attic region, it was the rural Dionysia that were celebrated: in December it was the Lenaea, holidays of the wine press, when the god was offered the first products of the wine-season. Then, at the end of February, came the Anthesteria, or “flowery celebrations”, that lasted three days during which the wine of the last harvest was tasted – in the Lenoeon sanctuary a procession was organized, followed by a sacrifice offered by the wife of the archon-king, and concluded by the offering of boiled seeds to both Dionysos and Hermes. The most famed and renowned celebrations of Dionysos were however the Great Dionysia, or urban Dionysia, at the beginning of March. It was during this festival that theater plays were organized. These nobles and respectful ceremonies were coupled with orgy-like celebrations all throughout Greece – such as the orgiastic celebrations on the slopes of the Cithaeron.

The physical appearance of Dionysos changed as his legend was modified. He first appeared in the same of a mature, bearded, middle-aged man wearing a crown of ivy. Then he became an effeminate and beardless ephebe, sometimes half-naked, barely covered by a “nebride” (a panther’s pelt or fawn skin), other times wearing a long dress identical to those worn by women. His head, which sported long curly hair, was crowned with vine and grapes – he was holding in one hand a thyrsus, and in the other either grapes or a drinking cup.

V/ Foreign deities associated with Dionysos

This exuberant wealth of legends is explained not only by the great popularity of the god, but also by the fact that Dionysos’ personality (as said previously) absorbed several foreign deities. Three in particular: the Phrygian Sabazios, the Lydian Bassareus and the Cretan Zagreus.

Sabazios, who was the supreme god of the Hellespontic Thrace, was a solar god from Phrygia. Very diverse traditions surrounded him: sometimes he was the son of Kronos, other times the son and lover of Cybele. His wife was either the lunar goddess Bendis, either Cotys/Cottyto, an earth-goddess similar to the Phrygian Cybele. Sabazios was depicted with horns, and the snake was his sacred animal. He was celebrated through nocturnal orgies. When later Sabazios was assimilated to Dionysos, the legends of the two gods intertwined. Some said that Sabazios has placed Dionysos within his thigh before entrusting him to the nymph Hippa ; others claimed that it was the opposite way and that Sabazios was Dionysos’ son. It is because of these parallels and links fome between the two that ultimately Dionysos’ native land was considered to be the Hellespontic Thrace.

Sometimes the Bacchants were called the “Bassarids/Bassarides”, and Dionysos himself sometimes wore the epithet “Bassarios” when he wore a long dress of Oriental style. One theory, presented by the lexicography Hesychios, was that it was a reference to the fox-skins the Bacchants used as clothing ; but another theory rather proposes the reading of these names as an allusion to an Oriental god absorbed by Dionysos. In Lydia, there was a god similar to the Phrygian Sabazios. This god was worshipped at Tmôlos, the same place where (according to the Orphico-Thracian tradition), Sabazios gave a child-Dionysos to Hippa. The Tmôlos later became one of Dionysos’ favorite residences. If this theory is correct, what was the name of this Lydian god? The hypothesis is that it might have been Bassareus – this Bassareus might have been a conquering deity, and it is because of him that the “far-reaching conquests” of Dionysos might have entered his legend. It was also probably because of Bassareus existence that Dionysos became involved in the legend of Aphrodite and Adonis, and maybe it was even because of this Bassareus that the legend of Ampelos came to be – this very beautiful young man that Dionysos was in love with, but who was killed by a wild bull he tried to tame. Dionysos, full of sorrow, asked the gods to turn Ampelos into vine.

As for Zagreus… Zagreus very probably started out as the Cretan equivalent of the Hellenistic Zeus, but under the influence of the Orphic mysticism he was identified with Dionysos, and this resulted in a new element of the Dionysos legend: Dionysos’ passion (in the Christian sense). Here is what was told about the Zagreus-Dionysos: He was the son of Zeus, and of either Demeter or Kore. The other gods were jealous of him, and thus conspired against him. He was ripped to pieces by the Titans, that then boiled his dismembered corpse. However Pallas saved the heart of the god: she brought it to Zeus, who destroyed the Titans with his thunderbolt, and from the still-beating heart he had Dionysos be born. As for Zagreus, whose remains were buried at the foot of the Parnassus, he became a chtonian deity qui, in the Underworld, welcomed the souls of the dead and helped their purification. To these sufferings and this resurrection, the adepts of the Orphism gave a mystical meaning/reading, and this deeply changed the character of Dionysos. He stopped being this rustic god of wine and joy that had descended from the mountains of Thrace – he even lost his trait as the “god of orgies and madness that came from the Orient”, no, this new Orphic Dionysos was, to take back Plutarch’s words, “the god who was destroyed, the god who disappears, the god who abandons life and then is reborn” – aka, a symbol of universal life.

As such, it is no surprise to see that in the Mysteries of Eleusis Dionysos was associated with Demeter and Kore ; because, like them, he embodied one of the great powers of fecundity in the world.

Kuro First-Person Pronouns: Doll

Unlike English, Japanese has many first-person pronouns ( “I”). These often will give you information about the type of person the character is. Are they very feminine or masculine? Polite or brusque? Young or old? Are they higher or lower in the social hierarchy? How close, psychologically, are they to the listener?

It’s not uncommon for one person to use different pronouns in different situations, and that is sometimes the case in the manga, depending on the character.

These ofc get lost in translation and are something I find very interesting. So this series will go through some of the Black Butler characters and show you which pronoun(s) they tend to use in Japanese and what that says about them as a character.

Doll - オレ

Used By: Men | Casual or Polite: Casual

Doll consistently uses オレ.

Doll’s gender is a bit confusing , especially once you move from the Japanese into a language like English that demands pronouns for a sentence to make sense.

Although Doll is afab (as admitted to Ciel in the Circus Arc), Doll uses the first-person pronoun オレ (aka 俺), ore, which is the same one Bard does.

Here, Doll admits to Ciel that they’re a 「乙女」, or young girl (translated as “maid” in the official English), but even after continues using the same “masculine” pronoun (see below for example).

Doll also uses オレ in the present, and the official English used “he” as a pronoun for Doll. (The Japanese doesn’t need a third-person pronoun, so aside from オレ, there’s no official gender marker for Doll.)

Now, as I discussed in Bard’s post, some women do use this pronoun, but it not clear why Doll does. Is it because Doll grew up surrounded by men and boys? Is it because Doll has “taken on” a male persona to fit in? Or does Doll identify as masculine?

I can’t answer those questions based solely on the source text. All I can say is that Doll tells Ciel that they’re a “maiden” and consistently uses オレ.

So is Doll an 「オレつ娘」, orekko, a woman who uses the ore pronoun? Unless Yana gives us more info about Doll, it’s impossible for me to say.

However, some more history about this pronoun. It originated from a second-person pronoun (“you”), おのれ (oh no re) before the Kamakura period (~1185-1332), and in the Edo period (~1600-1867) eventually became a first-person pronoun that was used by both men and women of various stations.

During the Meiji period (~1868-1912), woman stopped using it in standard dialect, but it retained a strong presence in regional rural dialects. It could be that Yana has Doll use オレ as a way to distinguish them as having a coarser, more “country” way of speaking, rather than directly indicating anything about Doll’s gender.

オレ is also associated with tough and aggressive women, especially in fiction, which could be another reason Yana elected to have Doll use it. In fact, girls who use this pronoun have an association in manga/anime of being tomboys, often can beat boys in a fight, and may dress in masculine clothing. That definitely seems to fit Doll while not in their circus getup.

Once again, it’s likely Yana took all these things into account while deciding which pronoun to use for Doll.

Hi I'm here to join the OP thoughts. It could be bcs he's my favorite but I also think Sanji could eat some good amount in certain situations. Like, if he's visiting a new restaurant he'd probably want to sample as much dishes as he can, so he can get some inspiration for his own cooking, he'd go through a good portion of the menu, maybe getting a little carried away and quite literally biting off more than he can chew. ALSO, HIS THING WITH WASTING FOOD. I think that could take to some great stuffing scenarios, some situation in wich there's a lot of leftovers for some reason and no one else to help him with it. And he can't just waste food like that, so he forces himself to clean off all the plates even if it’s a little too much and leaves him all bloted, his clothes now very tight.

I agree with you, I think Sanji would definitely go through a Food Wars type situation (which...I guess at least the manga version of this vaguely has already been done) where Sanji would want to have all that he could. I think like Soma in Food Wars, he'd want not only sample but have the entire menu or as much as he can because he knows the flavor can and would change throughout the dish. So merely a taste isn't enough. Add to this, that since the Straw Hat crew is often on the move, he can't like slowly work his way through all the dishes, he's got to try to cram it in. He might want to limit it to what their regional specialties are but he might worry that he'll miss something if he does. So yes I agree, definitely having more than he should. Not only is he not wanting to waste food, but he has to be careful of leftovers since he might not have a chance to store things.

I think there could be leftovers (especially if Luffy is not around), though I think this situation is more likely on somewhere like the Baratie. Where then yes he want to make sure nothing was wasted or repurpose leftovers into a new meal for himself or if one of the cooks or himself made a mistake in an order, he'd view it as a duty to eat it himself. There's always the thought of they lose cooling power on the ship too and he has to cook and eat everything before it goes bad because he can't just throw it out if it's not spoiled so he makes sure to eat it all. And yes definitely leaves Sanji bloated and clothes tight, if not having to undo his pants to let his stomach out a bit.

a solid 10/10, omg, i love editing. it's probably my favorite part of the writing process because it's the part in which I really see the story take shape, all the narrative pieces fall into place, all the little details sharpen and come into focus. I love editing so much that it's incredibly difficult for me to silence my internal editor while drafting, and that's why I write so slow... I'm definitely guilty of spending hours, days even, on refining the same paragraph or passage before my full draft is even finished 🤣 I'm just so addicted to that high feeling I get when I figure out the perfect word or phrase to make a sentence SING.

ahaha oh man, i fear that my answer to this one is not going to be all that weird or interesting 😅 for King of My Heart I've done a crazy amount of research on various world monarchies, European castles and palaces, and architectural styles of the Mediterranean region. For What Happens In Vegas I spent a truly mind-boggling amount of time scouring AirBnB profiles and Google-Earth scoping various attractions on The Strip, and my phone STILL gives me ads and news alerts for the Las Vegas metropolitan area more than a year later.

now, if we're talking stuff I've researched for my NSFW fics... that's a whole different ballgame. I think that probably my research into fireplay for an as-yet-unfinished Zutara fic probably takes the cake there 😏🔥

Looking for Roleplay Partners

About Me:

Descriptive Roleplayer. My minimum is five computer lines and I can write up to two paragraphs when really interested invested to an rp. (My Writing Samples)

I rp 1x1, and not groups. I've tried it several times, and it became hard to follow so I really don't do them.

I am Eastern Daylight Time, but different time zones are completely fine with me. The more partners the better! :)

I am looking for long term roleplay partners that I can be able to talk, plot and rp with.

I love to plan out roleplays and make tons of headcanons and such as we go!

I roleplay in third person. First and second just feels weird to me.

I rp oc x oc (original only) and oc x canon. Canon x canon really doesn't keep my interest for long so I avoid it when I can.

We can double up or do one on one. If we do the latter, I have a preference of playing my oc or being the female lead.

For all fandoms I am apart of, I have an descriptive oc at the ready for whenever I rp. The same if we roleplayed an original storyline/setting.

Some fandoms have their own storylines and plots to go with them as well!

For some roleplays, I know some people like to take the romantic route, but I'm open to any. You can do romantic, platonic, or even familial routes with any character when we roleplay.

Fandom-wise, I'm also a big fan of crossover roleplays as well. But that can be up for you to decide.

I'm always open to listening to my partner and their boundaries. So if there's something about an rp that makes you uncomfortable, we can work a ways around it to solve the problem.

I have the preference of building up to a scene instead of just jumping into it. Whether it be casual or sexual.

I don't like love triangles, but i'm open to polyamorous relationships in rps. I can play up to three partners.

How they embarrass themselves in front of MC (Headcanons)

Jin Namba

Jin spent too much time on social media to be trendy. He saw that trend of getting photos of how the stars looked in a region during a specific day. So, Jin decided to get MC one of these with their anniversary. When the delivery arrived, MC was home, and Jin gave it immediately. It turned out the anniversary was wrong. And it was he who sent the wrong date.

Hideki Ishigami

During a warm weekend, Ishigami and MC decided to go to the beach. So, both of them got into the water. However, a big wave and one jellyfish made Ishigami lose his balance. The man tried his best to swim. After half a minute that felt like years, MC finally told her boyfriend that the water was shallow enough for him to stay on his four and not die.

Hyogo Kaga

Hyogo let his daughter paint his nails. Of course, Baby Kaga didn't care where his nails end. He forgot that the nail polish remover finished the last time she did this. So, Captain Kaga had to go to an important meeting early in the morning with colorful and messy painted fingers.

Shusuke Soma

Jokingly, Soma handcuffed himself and MC together against the bed. After he locked them, he remembered he had left the keys in his blazer in another room. MC offered to move the bed with them because it was made out of expensive wood. So they did it until they were met by the door. And Shusuke understood why the bed had to be put in his room disassembled when he saw there was no way to get out with it. Soma was nearly crying while trying to break the piece they were handcuffed to. The bed remained like that for years.

Takaomi Tsugaru

Tsugaru loves MC, and he loves MC strong enough to give up on his habit of eating strange food combinations. For MC's birthday, he wanted to get her a cake from a fancy expensive confectioner. It turned out MC had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, and they had to go to the ER.

Seiji Goto

Goto once jokingly asked MC if Japan turned into The Netherlands. MC asked why because it wasn't like Goto to make such jokes. So, Goto sent her a photo of a field with tulips. It was Ishigami who told him that it was a field of poppies.

Ayumu Shinonome

The Hair Guru a.k.a. Ayumu Shinonome convinced MC that he could cut her hair. She accepted to let him cut her bangs, and he asked her about the length. They agreed on it, and instead of cutting the hair under his fingers, he cut it from above, making it too short. MC cried for two days and didn't talk to him at all. He had to apologize more than ten times for her to stop being mad at him.

Toru Kurosawa

After Toru and MC started to live together, Shoma became a usual guest in their house. It was so natural for him to visit his sister that Toru even gave him a pair of keys. However, Shoma was polite enough to announce his presence beforehand. Once, Toru completely forgot about this and decided to shower before MC returned home. When he heard the keys, he let go of his towel and sat on the couch completely naked and with a potted plant instead of a rose near him. Half a minute later, MC came back and saw her brother silently staring at her shocked naked boyfriend.

Yukihisa Maki

Yuki told MC to take care of herself and not slip on the icy road. He was like: "I hope your soles are adherent enough," "Look where you're walking," "Don't run," and "Take your hands out of your pocket." So, Yukihisa took MC's hand to help her steady her. The next second, he fell on his butt on took MC after him.

Shunichiro Tachibana

After Shunichiro publicly confirmed his relationship with MC, journalists took photos of the two. Once, he overworked himself so hard that after a few weeks, he saw a photo of him and a woman together and tried to remember and understand what had happened and who was the woman. After days of torture, he finally came clean to MC, acknowledging that he had no idea what had happened, but he was sure that nothing was between him and someone else. MC told him it was her in the photo, wearing a new coat.

Jun Araki

Mr. Araki met one of his clients, who grew up with him in the orphanage, in the market while buying pads for MC. When his childhood friend asked him about his relationship status and was ready to congratulate him, Jun panicked and said they were for his sister. Both met and stood awkwardly silent, face to face for ten minutes.

Toshiaki Kijima

MC asked her husband about a man with the same surname as him who sent her a friend request. Toshiaki was trying to fall asleep, so he said that he had no idea, probably just a coincidence. Later, MC found out it was one of his cousins they met the next time they went to Shimane.

Toma Kiriya

Toma was working while MC was in the bathroom. And it's a universal knowledge that people reach their peak of sexiness when they get out of the shower. So, how could he resist his eye-catching fiancee? Toma put away his laptop and went to her, starting a make-out session that continued with him taking MC to the sofa. The man planted his butt on the laptop, and it was only half of the problem. Sharp pieces of plastic and glass got stuck, and he had to go to the hospital to get stitches.

Natsume Asaoka

Natsume got drunk at a party and told everyone he wanted to sing a song for his wife. He got every single note wrong. Videos of him still running errands in between Addison & Rhodes employees.

Ukyo Senkawa

MC overworked herself for weeks. Ukyo did it too, but he tried his best to take care of his wife. So, he wanted to make her happy and help her relax. And what could be better than a tasty dinner with tea? MC tasted it and said nothing, then Ukyo did the same and understood that he had put salt instead of sugar in the tea.

Daimon Togo

When Daimon and MC had their first projects after getting together, Kunihiro filled a drawer in his desk with condoms. Unfortunately, it wasn't MC who needed anything from Togo first thing in the morning. When he saw the condoms, Daimon wanted to close the shelf at fast as possible but accidentally forced it, and all its contents fell on the floor when MC approached him.

Kunihiro Kasai

Someone asked Mr. Kasai during a meeting about something that he failed to hear three times. He finally confirmed the question and moved on. It turned out they asked if MC took sick days due to being pregnant. He had a lot of explanations to do after HR called them to congratulate him and his colleagues prepared a baby shower.

Kuranosuke Kiba

Kuranosuke told MC that he would protect her during storms, that there was no way something like this would scare him, and he was as cool as a cucumber. It thundered, and he jerked so hard that he dropped the tray with their entire dinner, destroying everything edible.

Eiji Takao

No wonder he is childhood friends with Kunihiro because both get in trouble due to mishearing things. In his case, he didn't say "yes", he said "no". What happened, and what were the questions? He and MC were at an event where he met one of his first clients. The enthusiastic client asked Takao if MC, who sat as close to him as possible, was the wife he had heard about. Due to the noise in the background, Eiji didn't hear the question and just said "no". Two pairs of bewildered eyes looked at him.

Shu Hasunuma

Before taking some days off, Shu told everyone at work not to contact him because he would have things to do and wouldn't be available most of the time. The day he returned, he accidentally opened his steps counting app during work. Kuranosuke, who couldn't reach him during his mini-vacation, saw that during his entire mini-vacation, Shu made around 20 and 35 steps a day. Shu had to give his wife a few explanations after Kuranosuke started to call her every time he needed Mr. Hasunuma on his days off.

Toshiki Kasumi

We all know how smart is Dr. Kasumi and that he has visited many countries. No wonder this man is multilingual. So, Kasumi took MC on holiday to one of the countries he had visited more than ten years ago. He convinced MC that they wouldn't need translators. During their first dinner, Kasumi understood that he had forgotten a big part of the language spoken in the country but was too stubborn to change to English. When they finally got their command, both Kasumi and MC looked at the plates in front of them, understanding that none of them were what they wanted.

Munechika Takado

While walking, Takado told MC to be more aware of her surroundings because she nearly tripped on the stairs in front of him earlier that day. They decided to go to buy some things. And when he finished his sentence about how important was for doctors to be able to take care of their health, he planted himself on the glass wall of the market and broke his nose.

Taro Akuchi

Taro asked MC to wear something of a specific color for their date. He bought flowers to impress her. Being the socially awkward person he was, Taro gave them to MC the second he saw him. He understood that he mistook the girl when she thanked him and he didn't recognize the voice. The man wanted to take the flowers back, but MC, who was a few meters away, got in time to stop him.

Suzumu Mado

Suzumu invited MC on a date and went in there with the idea of paying for both of them. So, he let her get what she wanted even if it was expensive. When they finally had to pay, he understood that he had forgotten his wallet at home. He tried to convince MC that it wasn't his intention. MC didn't believe him.

It certainly wouldn’t happen if they’ve never seen Soma, or not recently. “ To them, it would just be a patterned belt. Which wasn’t wrong, but the obvious signs were unacknowledged when they didn’t know that the signs were there to begin with. “ Some of them probably wouldn’t even if they had. “ Namely Shiro most likely, although he could name a few others who such a detail would be insignificant to. But others.... He might be able to play it off as a pattern growing in popularity in that region, but that could very quickly turn bad.

It would stay safe and undamaged, a history and haunting all in one.

Twin Moons Locked in a Lifetime Struggle

Malum, formerly known as Soma, and Calumnus are the rare twin half brothers (they have different fathers). They were born into the Moon Cult, specifically to the previous Moon Prince. There is a cyclical prophecy that tells of a cataclysm that destroys the moon, called the Eclipse. Sometimes it’s a random event. Sometimes it’s a person. When the moon is destroyed, a single Moon Prince born in the family will come in and summon a new Moon. On the flip side, there speaks of a story of twin moons, where both moons would be locked into a battle until one sets. The one that sets will reappear one day to destroy its twin and take its place. Soma and Calumnus were very close when they were children. Both were groomed from the very beginning to be raised as the Moon Prince, however there would only be one. Calumnus got the better end of the deal once it was found that Soma did not have the Moon Prince’s genetics, merely being some unknown Ancient that was lost to history. What was initially their father’s plan to pit them against each other turned into Calumnus being the favored son. Calumnus was very strong and powerful, but he did not have much in the way of smarts, unlike Soma. Soma had started to become a threat to Calumnus as he was very aware that Soma had far more technical knowledge than he did. Cal felt he was owed the position of Moon Prince, and started to bully Soma in order to break him down. Cal pushed to see how far he could get away with it (and he went VERY far). This led to a lot of fights between the two, Cal getting the other hand (and Soma getting in trouble). This culminated in Soma challenging Cal to the title, and losing. Soma was going to be sacrificed once Cal was declared the winner, but the great Apep had picked up on Soma’s struggles and Soma was runic burnt as a result. Soma disappeared, reappeared and then, not wanting to deal with that shit again, was banished form the Main Regions. Soma threw away his old name, renaming himself to Malum, and exploring the galaxies (and later other dimensions.) Eventually Malum will have to come back to either finish one or both prophecies, and the amount of rage and hate against his brother even centuries later will be incalculable. ---- There you go, this probably helps explain some of what is going on here. I had a lot of fun with this piece, despite some of the issues with it, I’m very proud of this one.
