It actually does bother me that eating is treated like spending money - that you have an allotted allowance in the form of calories that you are supposed to budget.
"How are you spending your calories?" I'm spending them on experiences. I'm spending them on time with my community, my people, those who matter to me. I'm spending them on satiating a human need. I'm spending them on the feeling of being alive and not just living.
If there is one experience that I don't want to "pay" for, it's the basic human right of comfort, security, community, and care.

I get where people are coming from when they say Diaspro in Winx lost the plot for the sake of being turned into a minor villain and that's all once Valtor enabled her to do what she did in S3, but I feel like that was a reasonable narrative choice. It's only a love potion at that point (while I could go on all day about the ethics of love potions, of course, a later season has her straight up trying to do direct murder). She's a noble, guards will do her dirty work, and I understand that she would feel like getting revenge on Bloom while getting back together with Sky. She was promised a position — romantic AND political — she nearly had and then it was taken from under her by a random fairy who wasn't even "supposed" to be in the running. I don't think what she did was nice, but it makes sense for the story and for her character for her to want to reclaim her position in the way she did. Sky's love was an accessory, in part, to her political ascension, and thus he is again rendered accessory and accomplice by the love spell. And, sending guards after threats seems to be the thing to do in the magical universe if you're a disgruntled noble, so it's probably not unfamiliar for Diaspro to have seen occur before or want to do. It's not a uniquely rotten response any more than Radius' behaviour towards the monster (who, he didn't know it, was Stella). If we fault her for this action rather than only the intention behind it, we need to examine how the worlds in Winx Club deal with threats to their monarchs in general, which sounds interesting but I frankly don't have time for tonight. Diaspro did wrong, but she didn't do uniquely wrong there, and Eraklyon has the punitive security structures in place to have enabled that.
Diaspro's later appearances seem to flatten her motives and the symbolism behind why her relationship with Sky was important and what she does about it (who cares what Diaspro's political aims are and how her status might reflect how she deals with problems, the audience needs to see Bloom thrown into fire I guess), but I feel like seasons 4-8 weren't really that good anyway, so I can't even claim this as a fault of the writers doing Diaspro specifically wrong instead of them just doing the whole show wrong at that point. It might be related, and it might be a coincidence, but a lot of the writing choices seemed to become more flat to me right around when the art shifted to that lifeless godawful Flash simulacrum of S1-3's art.
Also like... idk but if some long-haired hottie wizard in a sick coat and contemplative eyeshadow told me he could help me get my promised chance at both romantic and political success back, I'd at least hear him out, yknow, see what he had to say (<- don't trust me I simp for Valtor)
#rubia speaks#winx club#winx#diaspro#winx diaspro#not supporting women's wrongs but parsing them in context#actually you know what. love u bloom but i have a diaspro apologism streak in me#love potion BAD AWFUL ROTTEN but the guards? we need to interrogate the king about that one i think#and make ur guards pass a basic test on the obvious visual difference between a fairy and a witch idk :/#is diaspro entitled to sky's love and the political position of being his wife? no. does it narratively make sense for her to be mad? yeah#is her position of having been given the expectation of a certain status and result and having it 'undermined' a compelling one? yeah!#i think there's a lot to say about expectation vs reality and the burden of unfulfilled unsealed commitments in Diaspro's situation#and the societal structures in Eraklyon that allow her to act outside of due process because she's big mad as long as the king is cool w he#how the nobles protect their own class and interests even when Sky is acting unusual from VALTOR'S FUCKING MAGIC DAMN#now if she could just drop the magical coercion and the classism and the witch slander..........#interesting how that arc makes Bloom almost an underdog when... babe.... ur a Princess.#Sky's not out here marrying a commoner he's courting a princess of another world#.... sociopolitical views of Domino by other worlds? Bloom acting vs not acting the part of how a princess acts on Eraklyon?#Bloom as a Lesser Princess because of the condition of Domino?#Association with the Winx and Alfea in general making of her a symbolic commoner?#much to consider about Bloom's 'underdog' role compared to Diaspro in the Eraklyon Engagement Era

sorry ive been rant posting so much but i absolutely hate that post that says "the term mpreg isnt transphobic because theres fpreg!" because:
1. i see it like every two days
2. the post is viral because people love minimizing transphobia against trans men and saying trans men who complain about it are overreacting.
3. i thought the post was funny the first time but i didn't realize people were taking it seriously.
There is a very obvious difference between people who just find pregnancy hot and people who create fantastical scenarios to imagine cis men getting pregnant. Often they get off to the idea of a man, untouched by 'transness', being emasculated and forced to carry a pregnancy.
If you like mrpeg that's fine, you aren't doing anything wrong inherently. If you like mpreg, but only like a/b/o shit and find pregnant trans men irl repulsive, or objectify the idea of pregnant men, you're just perpetuating harm. Men in real life get pregnant. Men in real life are forced into pregnancy and childbirth, right now. It's not just a fantasy for you to jack off to and forget about, we are real people and getting pregnant right now can spell serious illness, mental harm, and even death. There are also men choosing to get pregnant and suffering major harm from transphobic medical systems not designed for us at all, and people treat it as a freak show or a fetish, see above.

I find it kind of silly that so many of those "time based life rule" sayings are like ~deep serious guidelines~ of some sort, but then there's that one other Well Known Rule that's just like "hrmm can I eat something off of the ground or not"
#the duality of human condition.. two biggest concerns in the modern era are attempts at self fulfilling productivity#and also 'if i drop my sandwich can i still eat it :('#Also while capitalism is often linked with/the source of hyper productivity culture - note that I do not mean the images in that context#'meaningful to you' does not have to mean 'productive within a capitalist system'. The point is not 'every waking hour of every day#must be spent in the most societally productive grinding mindset hyper efficency mode possible' but more like#if you've always wanted to learn french ever since you were a kid and you think it would be fulfilling to you (just because you like it#absent of any larger purpose like using it for a job/monetizing it somehow/etc.). and you've just spent like 5 hours straight on tiktok#or something mindlessly scrolling the internet. maybe someimtes it'd help for your own personal fulfillment in the long#run to try to - the next time you have 5 spare hours - work on learning french or something that is actually significant to you#as a person and that you'll be glad you worked towards. instead of weeks and weeks passing by and feeling you have nothing to show for it#or etc. AAANYWAY. The images/rules themselves are also NOT the main point of this post. More just the juxtaposition of them together#and the fact that 3 of them are serious seeming while one is so mundane it seems silly in comparison.#BUT even though they're not the main point . I still didn't want it to come across as if I was like promoting or buying into capitalist#productivity culture propaganda or etc. I don't find productivity tips like this inherently bad as long as they're kind of divorced from#those ideas. I think it's still important in life to have goals even if those goals exist outside of the typical expected framework.#I mean that's actually part of why a culture of chronically exhausted overworked deprived people is damaging because if you#'re forced to spend 85% of your waking time working at some job that is perosnally meaningless to you that brings you nothing that#youre only doing under threat of starvation and houselesness and etc. then of course you don't have much time for hobbies or things you car#about and of course you'll feel more aimless and personally unsatisfied and like life is not fulfilling or interesting.#Productivity and efficiency is GOOD actually. as long as it's able to be directed in ways that are actually meaingful to the community or#individual and bring some sort of feeling of fulfillment or progress or accomplishment and working towards a person's personal ideas#of happiness whatever those are. rather than just working away aimlessly so some guy you don't know can buy a 20th house or etc. etc.#ANYWAY.. lol.. Me overthinking things perhaps.. probably not as likely#that people see the silly little cat images and go 'WOW EVIL you must be a capitalist grind culture lover' like its pretty clear#thats not the point... but... just in case... lol.. I loooove to over clarify things that don't actually need clarification

Not to be deranged on main abt huntlow again but I think there's a little something in how Willow and Hunter both have character arcs of self-determination, specifically centered around the idea that other people tell them what and who to be.
Like it's most obvious with Hunter. Belos wants him to be Caleb 2.0 (no treachery patch update), and forces him into a position where he can't be any of the things he actually wants to be (happy, free, a normal teen, etc). All Hunter can do is repress those desires.
Everybody in the EC sees Hunter as Someone Else: he's their superior, he's competition for Belos' favour, to Darius he's a mockery of what his mentor stood for (Darius gets over this, woo good for him), and y'know. Belos. Self explanatory.
His desire in Hunting Palismen, the life goal that bonds him to flapjack is literally just him wanting to decide his own future. And now in s3 he's changed his hair (presumably to move away from Caleb). This boys whole deal revolves around the idea that people want him to be someone/something that he doesn't want to be.
But there's an element of other people trying to define who Willow is in her arc too, it's just more subtle.
The show starts off with her in a track she doesn't want to be in cause it's what her parents think is best for her, and that episode starts with Amity calling her "half a witch", and then her calling herself that in a moment of panic, before Luz reassures her.
THAT'S THE THING to me too is that Willow viewing herself as "half a witch" was imposed on her by the outside forces of her bullying. She doesn't seem especially bothered by her lack of magic in the flashbacks in Understanding Willow, except when it gets her and Amity in trouble...until Amity says that she's too weak to be her friend. Baby Willow is DEVASTATED. Then in episodes like hootys moving hastle and any sport in a storm, she feels she has to prove herself to the people who doubt her (Amity and Hermonculous), because again- the way other people view Willow has defined her all her life.
The resolution of Understanding Willow only happens because Amity admits that she didn't mean it when she said Willow was weak. And then in labyrinth runners when Amity thinks Willow needs protecting, Willow straight up says "I want you to see who I really am!". Willows character arc isnt about her gaining confidence because she got better at magic- she did get better, but she was always good (except as a baby but. Y'know. She was a baby. What do you want from her). It's just that nobody wanted to acknowledge that, and that affected her self image to the point where she didn't see it.
And that's why I think the motif of Hunter and Willow seeing each other how they wish others saw them (hunter's just a normal kid to Willow and Willow's strong and capable to Hunter), and how they have these accurate understandings of each other for people who haven't known each other that long...blaggh. they're so cute I'm gonna vomit

hot take but I think that those youtubers who 'expose' alleged mental illness or medical condition fakers are doing more harm for the rhetoric surrounding mental illness-and the people who really have it-than the people supposedly faking it to begin with.
#i mean neither are good but like#what they do is set a precedent of doubt whenever someone makes (mental) illness claims#it sets a precedent of finding and uncovering people who fake it and is just very bad imo.#inevitably i think this makes life ahrder for people who experience these conditions#especially for those who myabe have it but don't check off every symptom#and have to worry about maybe being seen as a faker since they don't have the msot extreme or visible case#idk. just rambling#worth noting this usually goes for things i do not have so i cannot in detail give opinions on specific diagnoses that this trend applies t#to*#however i do stand by this opinion as of right now#at worst. fakers spread misinformation and monetize/benefit from mental illness they do not have#at worst the people who expose this set a societal and online culture revolving around finding out who's REALLY got things#and who REALLY experiences it#which just. is icky. you aren't entitled to knowing anything about anyone's medical history.#plus imo if someone goes out of their way to fake something for attention then. there's probably a mentally ill brain doing it#like ok you don't have whatever you're claiming but like. mentally well people don't fake things like that usually#is this a cold take?????? like if i'm wrong then i AM open to other opinions and i'll change mine#but my initial opinion on this is it icks me out#inabber this is a pointed message. iirc he also made amber heard jokes#which like. i think no matter what side you're on with that#maybe. don't joke about domestic abuse. or alleged abuse if that's your stance on it.#like either way that's just shitty#ANYWAYS.

What people often confuse, I think, is the idea that you can have specific benefits in different situations, but that is not the same as having systemic privileges for whatever identity/presentation/assumed identity or presentation that was given benefits.
If you want an example of what I mean, I have experienced some better treatment as people have recognized me as male, but society doesn't offer me systemic benefit because I'm a trans man - my transness, even in a context of being seen or assumed as a man, is not granted to me. I'm not saying that I don't ever get treated better in certain instances where I am seen as a man (even if I'm seen as a cis man), what I am saying is that that is different than systemic privileges. I think that difference matters, since people see systemic benefits as indications that people don't need help, or even that those people need to be "taken down a peg." This viewpoint isn't conducive to helping people, if that's what your goal is.
I use myself as an example just so people aren't confused. This is a complex topic that is, fundamentally, intersectional. If the only voices being heard are one type, we will be coming away with a dangerously narrow view of how social benefits and societal privilege work.

Okay so apparently now in bhna because the city is now realizing the government can't support the level of crime so civilians are getting gear to defend themselves without heroes to do it for them. And like maybe if I was Japanese I would be scared but as an American, getting weapons to defend yourself when the government fails to work is literally the second amendment like there heroes in show quitting over this and man this means Japanese heroes don't know what the heck bhna america must be like
Tbh the average American would have probably gotten their own weapons and gear illegally and just went "it's about goddamn time yall realized you were useless" but I realize I am not the average American. I AM Texan though so the point still stands lol
Like in a more realistic BNHA-America, Vigilantes would be way more liked than Pro Heroes because of the strong distrust we already have of cops and the government, and little cultural precedent to respect them and quietly protest. We're loud, we blow shit up, and guerilla warfare and vigilantism is hard coded into our Bill of Rights AND DNA.
99% of the Pros in BNHA are kinda bitchmade from where I'm sitting. And where I'm sitting is on top of a trailer with a bulletproof vest, a few guns I got off the street with ease, and my grandma's custom "Custer Had it Coming" t shirt while I shoot anyone I don't know that takes a single step onto my property. It's chaotic and violent, but it gets shit done when you realize the cops aren't even legally obligated to help you 🤷‍♀️

The Time Lords as this profoundly tactile-free society. The Doctor over the regenerations wanting that contact, but the more emotion starts leaking into it, the more need, the more it hurts. All the moments where the Master and the Doctor have their most emotional connections being physical - Ten and Simm!Master in the wastelands, Twelve kissing Missy and bluescreening her, even little things like Thirteen and Dhawan!Master’s fight on the hill that makes him beam. When I say the Master needs a hug, I’m not trying to be cute, I could not be more literal. The Master getting genuine tactile affection would either fix him or kill him or both.
