Every day I wake up and horrified by the implications of AI on the entertainment industry….a lot of my friends are going to lose their jobs and starve to death because Elon Musk thought it’d be fun to fund a machine that automatically steals artists’ work against their will to create generic algorithmically generated mass market slop.

I feel like I’m going crazy because everyone pretends they care about how “popular media sucks now because it’s all created to be as generically marketable/similar to other things as possible, almost like it’s algoritmically generated >:(“ but then they’re also like “WOW COOL AI ART!”

Like dudes???? Don’t you understand that supporting AI art means that you’re supporting eliminating and eviscerating any last vestiges of humanity from art……..a company will definitely settle for “mass produced AI slop generated by an algorithm to look as similar as possible to whatever generic popular slop came before” if it means they don’t have to pay a human being.

And that’s not even going into the way that these algorithms monetize themselves……some of them have “free” tiers now but that’s extremely likely to change in the future. I can’t wait until the most prolific “comic artists” of our times are like, hedge fund managers who can afford to buy 1000000 prompts on Dall-E.

And once that starts happening more we’ll all be drowning in a tidal wave of hollow empty shallow algorithmically generated “”””art””””” created by machines that can’t feel, think, intend, or care— machines that can only rip off the artists they were designed to replace, the artists whose actually meaningful thoughtful creations were stolen to provide their training data.

I hate all of this, and I hate the mass callous indifference to it. I am baffled that people don’t see the dangers of a future where none of our art is created by people who care— by people who are trying to mean something and to say something and to connect with you from one person to another—but by algorithms mindlessly mashing pixels together. It’s going to be horrible. Especially because in a time of climate change and intense social stress/collapse it’s going to be very important to connect with other people through art, but AI removes humanity from art entirely. If climate change wasn’t likely to cause the collapse of society anyway I’d say that if we keep heading in this direction the art and entertainment industry is a bit doomed

✧ Oh boy,,, How do I explain this. Short answer: Nah. Long, long, long answer? Under the "Keep Reading." ✧

✧ Context Time! ✧

✧ Bare with me while I try to keep this as short as possible. So for the people who DON'T know who Rose is, she used to work at HQ with Director D(avid) and their friend Eugene. The 3 of them were best friends, and trained together under the previous Director of HQ, but when the title of Director was passed down to David, Eugene got upset and left the agency to make his own. Skip forward a few years later, Director and Rose are dating, and they go on a mission together. Unfortunately, there was an explosion in the building the mission occured in and Rose didn't make it out on time, and presumably dead. However, Eugene finds her and was able to save her by giving her the robotic parts she has now. So now she works for Eugene, and Director is not even aware she's alive. (Rose's death caused his hair to fall out.) Now skip again, to the events of Spy Island. Director goes to Eugene for the B.A.D. agents. Their agreements? Director gets the B.A.D. agents in exchange for Eugene getting HQ. Director didn't care about it at that point obviously so it was an easy agreement. The events of Spy Island happen, and Director is eventually redeemed by the hero, in my case Muddy Sword. So, Eugene doesn't get his end of the deal, so instead of wanting HQ, he wants to take it down, in the battle of the best agency woop woop. Now, where does Mordred enter this equation you ask? Well- ✧

✧ Once again, skip forward. Mordred is dating David, and David decides to offer Mordred a job at HQ as a gadget specialist with Dr. Spyglass. So Mordred decides to impress his spy boyfriend by creating A.I. Merlin. The blue robot we all love. Merlin is presented to Director, and he gets excited. Why? Because now A.I. agents could be made, without the fear of real agents getting harmed in missions. However, during Merlin's presentation, Rose is spying on them, and she reports back to Eugene. Eugene devises a plan to steal Merlin, so they can have A.I. agents before Director does. So Merlin gets stolen, he goes missing, and Mordred starts to panic because well,, that's his greatest creation. (He doesn't want to admit it, but he sees Merlin as his son HA-) Director finds out it was Eugene's doing, so he goes into spy mode with Mordred. They break into Eugene's agency, battle ensues with Director and Rose discovering each other, they proceed to fight, but while they fight, they find out that they were both being lied to by Eugene, and they join forces to find Merlin. So in the end, Merlin is brought back to HQ, and Rose, Eugene, and Director talk it out. Best friends again?....Eh. ✧ ✧ I know that was a lot to read, and thank you if you did, but I say all this context because Rose and Mordred wouldn't know each other AT ALL until Merlin is stolen. But, even though Rose and Director are okay with each other at this point, Mordred is still dating Rose's ex...( a.k.a. Director). Not only that, but she was involved in the stealing of Merlin, and they haven't seen another cyborg before so,,, what do you say to each other? So, final answer, I feel like they would be way too awkward between each other to even start a conversation. ✧
