She watches the snow fall outside the kitchen window, mentally cataloguing how beautiful her hometown is when covered in a fresh blanket of snow. And of course, how magical it is to have a white Christmas.

They had decided last year to spend this Christmas in Maine with her family, for the first time in almost five years. Her mother had insisted that Alan join them as well, and if Natalie wasn’t back in Boston almost 9 months pregnant and unable to attend, it would be the first time Genevieve had her whole family together in one place in over a decade.

She can hear Ethan in the living room of her childhood home, talking quite loudly and happily with their fathers. Their laughter bounces off the walls and it warms her heart.

Gen had everything she’s ever wanted and more.

On its own accord, her hand travels down to her stomach. She and Ethan had found out a week ago that she was pregnant with their first, after almost seven months of trying. Gen had almost given up hope that it would happen without medical intervention, but then after a fainting spell at work and quick blood test, she and Ethan got the news they’d been hoping for since May.

“Hey Mom, before Henry, Clara and the kids get here, Ethan and I wanted to give you, Dad and Alan a special gift.” Gen turns to her mom, still washing and putting away their breakfast dishes. None the wiser to the secret her daughter was about to spill.

“Oh? What is it?” Marie puts the dish towel down, her full attention on Genevieve.

“Come in the living room.”

Marie follows her into the living room, Ethan and Gen sharing a knowing look as they enter the room.

“Come sit here.” Ethan stands, gesturing to the couch. He quickly walks over to the tree to grab two small boxes.

“What’s going on?” Alan looks at his in-laws and then at his son, curiosity on his aging face. “Are we in trouble?”

“If anyone is, it’s probably me.” Robert joins Alan in laughter, the two getting an eyeroll from her mother.

“Stop it.” Marie playfully hits her husband’s arm, before once again giving her daughter her full attention. “I’m ready for my present.”

“You and Robert are sharing one.” Ethan happily hands Marie a gift and the other to his father. He moves away to stand at Gen’s side, as if he could tell she was nervous. Her arm coming around her waist and pulling her tightly against him.

“Open them.” Gen’s voice trembles, her eyes watering as she watches the soon to be grandparents rip at the wrapping paper.

Within seconds Marie lifts up a handmade ornament and then screams, the plastic bauble falling to the floor. “Oh, honey! Really?” She runs over to Gen and gathers her in a tight hug.

Now it was impossible for Gen to keep the tears at bay, looking over her mom’s shoulder to her husband. Who was all smiles himself, waiting anxiously for his dad to read his own ornament.

“Ethan, this is...” Alan smiles widely, standing to embrace his only child. “I’m gonna be a grandpa!”

“How far along are you?” Marie pulls away from Gen, full of tears of joy as well.

“About 8 weeks, so, it’s still early.” Gen places a hand on her stomach and reaching for Ethan again. “We aren’t telling anyone else until after my first trimester, but we wanted to tell you three.”

“We won’t say a word.” Alan pats Ethan on the shoulder, sniffling. “A family of your own?”

“Yes. Never thought you’d see the day, did you?” Ethan can’t help but laugh, knowing it wasn’t long ago that his father was convinced Ethan would never settle down completely.

“I did not.” Alan moves to pull Genevieve into a hug, the pair sharing a tear smile. “Congrats, to you both.”

“Thank you, Alan.”

After a few more moments of more tearful hugs and excited cheers, the five of them settle on the couch and love seat. Gen and Ethan offering their parents all the details they know, the prospective due date of August 4th and the slightly dramatic ordeal of how they found out themselves. And all of them full of smiles.

Though it all still felt like a dream to her, and that Gen would wake up any moment in her and Ethan’s Boston apartment with no baby in site. But it was real, and her husband’s hand in hers and pregnancy test on the counter back at their home was the proof.

They were having a baby, and their Christmases would never be the same again.

A/N: I think this will be my last Christmas fic for the year, I might do a NYE one but we’ll see.

I HAVE SO MUCH THOUGHTS ON THE PV THAT MY TWEETS SHOT UP TO 27K HELP uhhh this is gonna turn out pretty long because i have so many thoughts

(spoilers for act 9, 10. 11 up ahead, along with copious amounts of angst)

FIRS, I LOVE THE CINEMATIC PARALLEL WITH THE FLOWER AND ASTEROIDS i thoght the pollen was a rather strange thing to be emphasize on banri and sakuya's posters but then i saw the pv and *&^@(^(!^$*($ THAT'S SO PRETTY

what if this bubble reflects reni's old dream of putting on a god-like performance? considering how bubbles pop after a certain amount of time and how it reflects the person before it pops, the fall and eventual pop of the bubble is a symbolism of reni's dream being "more real"? considering how yukio won't act ever again, the bubble popping means that reni is awoken from his dream (since he's the only one of the first gen who had the bubble, and how the first gen has the theme of "nothing lasts forever," unlike the newborn gen's "nothing lasts forever, but...")

HARUGUMI. OH MY GOD. THE CINEMATIC TRANSITION JUST MADE ME CRY!!!!!!!!!!! okay so they're pretty bright, right? then they have the vignette/filter before they zoom out, onto the screen of azuma's robot friend. they could've just made it zoom out, but no, THEY HAD TO PUT THE FILTER THERE. it could mean that the a-12 death theory is real and that the arc planet agents (hisoka and azuma) managed to document a-12 before they died.

(a-12 death theory is pretty popular on twt, since the synopsis of the plays from the countdowns imply that a-12 is just a rock now)

ITARUUUUUUUUUUUUUU%(^%*^(*%!^(*%^(!*%^(!% other than the fact that we have the zoom in on him and he's like the leader of the a-12 dwellers in the harugumi pic above... he's also holding the glass flower. we all know how a3 loves paralleling the plays with the event/main story, so i think itaru will have a pretty major part in act 12 (my irl also theorized that itaru will start the family etude for sakuya this time) some tweets to better visualize how impactful itaru being the glue in act 12: this is the thread that talked about itaru as glue, and another one

WHAT IF THIS IS ONE OF THE CGS... ONE OOMF ALSO TALKED ABOUT HOW HE'S POSSIBLY PRESENTING A MONOLGUE IN THIS, WITH THE REST OF MANKAI RIGHT BEHIND HIM... kinda like banri's portrait in act 11 :')

ALSO CAN I PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE "TADAIMA" AND THE LYRICS TOO??????? a lot of jp artists i follow theorize that sakuya will go on a journey in act 12 (metaphorical or literal idk), but he'll still go home to his mankai family. also, the short version of the last planet song (and the long one too) has "tabibito" (traveler), and considering how the title of the plays are "home" and "origin"... it could be saku (the play character) going on a journey to find his origin, but he'll go home to anims once he finds the truth. to add to this, the harugumi part with the old leaders (where itaru sings last), he says "we'll wait for you" or smthn around those lines T-T

as for act 12... this is my theory. so, amadate sr. is very sus and he seems to have a grudge against hakkaku for not writing a script for his troupe. what if he sends out an offer for sakuya to join hyakka before he destroys mankai with more rumours (because he probably spread the rumours around banri in act 11). i don't know how they'll insert saku(ya)'s past since it's getting referenced a lot, BUT I JUST FEEL LIKE THEY'LL INSERT IT SOMEHOW (i crave sakuya lore and development). however, i think harugumi wouldn't try to influence his decision of joining hyakka (bc they're not aware of amadate sr.'s actual intent, but maybe aoshi and kabuto will), but they'll instead remind him that he'll always have a place to go home to (reference to: episode 23 of act 1 - a place that can't be taken away).

1. From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)

A three! I think I’m mid range cause I ain’t terrible but there is still shit I gotta improve and grow in my writing

2. Why do you write fanfiction?

to manifest what canon won’t give me and to write more! (though yes it is mainly about the smooching and the— I’ll stop there LOL)

3. What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

Hm! My weird research details? I’m that “fun fact, did you know...” in my fics sometimes LOL! I plan on giving a penthouse for erina in a fic and I went through penthouse listings in Japan for floor layouts and locations💀 my research gives me inspo and depth to stuff I think I lack in comparison to others sometimes.

4. Are there any writers that inspire you?

In terms of fellow fic writers, one of them I can’t name here but she’s an inspiration with her exceptional gift for prose period and her lovely skill at comedy! I want to be as funny as her when I write, I love her ironic situational humor. Other fic writers are @takoyakitenchou, @royaldragonsevgisi15 who I always love sharing ideas with and motivate me to create more! For non-fic writers it would be V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo, Oda, and Horikoshi! The last two may be mangaka, however they are writers as well to create their stories! The depth these creators have given their worlds and interesting characters theyve given life to are all what I aspire to be like!

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

so far uh?? hm everything I’m currently writing are wips lol!! im proud of my wip that has been nicknamed ‘soma panics’ that is a multi-chapter fic that spans like probs 20 plus chapters maybe

6. What element of writing do you find comes easily?

dialogue! it’s so much fun! and character thoughts. I’ve said to people I may be better suited for script writing

7. What element of writing do you struggle with most?

I think it’s description, of like setting and showing action. also an expansion of my vocabulary LOL

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

erina! I think it’s because canon has shown us many of her different faces and range of emotion.

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

SOMA!! chill ass mofo whos more carefree compared to the common shonen protagonist! for other shokugeki characters I’m not sure just yet because I haven’t flexed my fingers enough for the rest of them.

I guess I should say romance cause that’s what I mostly write LOL!

sorina and I try to get them to smooch eventually KEK and yeah it’s..usually romantic fluff lmao

Sometimes! There are times songs will be on loop and times I just shuffle a playlist. and if I’m writing in random bursts it’ll be with no music but it really does depend lmao I think music is when I’m forcing myself to write?

completely independent ideas, I’ve realized in the past prompts shoot me in the foot often unless I luckily figure something out. but I’m often driven by my own sporadic self interest with shitty ping ponging attention

multi-chap I guess cause I can post without being finished LOLLL but tbh can I really answer? I haven’t finished anything.....

25. Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!

I can’t answer this question imo because I haven’t finished a fic yet so technically stuff could all fit in the one fic?

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

MYSTERY AND CRIME! I love the genre and I have plot ideas once a blue moon but I can’t dive in because I want to make details that work and reduce plot holes where suspension of disbelief isn’t as needed. I need to study it more (I need to study all the details for any of my fics imo to be confident sometimes LOL)

27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

I don’t think I can say one comment was the nicest because I’ve gotten comments that have given me quite the smiles to my face many times! I know this is a cop out but it’s true!

and also rad. i am never this vocal about my emotions like EVER but this needs to be said your fics are obviously far from perfect, as are mine and everyone else's. but the thing about your works is that they're so well-sanded that it's impossible to find any rough edges or faults in them in terms of cohesion to a plot. your cast is never OOC and the amount of effort you devote to developing your takes on the characters as accurately as possible is unimaginably awe-inspiring.

28. How well do you handle criticism when it comes to your writing?

I’d like to believe I take it often well to try and improve because that’s always my goal. if someone is rude lol that’s not constructive snd is unhelpful. If I disagree with criticism I’ll explain why !

Not yet, but I have some plot ideas I think will let me test this.

elliott fuji, a japanese-american award winning photographer who is erina’s boyfriend in ‘soma panics’ which..causes soma’s panic LOL he’s 30 with slightly wavy black hair. I still haven’t pinpointed his personality just yet...he kind of humble brags for sure an artsy fucker and flirts maybe I’ll make him a lil shy though. he teaches sometimes, and becomes an adjunct photography professor in Tokyo so he can be with erina.

32. Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.

a cook is unfashionably late in realizing his feelings.

33. Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?

I am a slow. so slow. motivation who is she? I also write out of order, unfortunately a bit too often.

this should be for the fic ‘soma panics’ it’s either megumi or satoshi talkin to him rn, I’m leaning towards satoshi

“You thought she would always wait for you, didn’t you Soma-kun? To always welcome you home.”

Soma drags his palms down his face and groans. He doesn’t like this at all. He doesn’t shy from confrontation but this is a whole different ballgame. Soma doesn’t play any ball.

“I guess..?” Is his reply, because he thinks he isn’t sure how to answer that.

“You guess?”

Just being questioned again is enough to crack Soma’s pathetic facade as if it was dropped chinaware and he lets out the longest sigh.

“No.”

Coming home means coming home to Nakiri Erina too.

35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!

I’ve mentioned it throughout this but the WIP I’ve nicknamed ‘soma panics’ is something I’m super excited to write, but it’s going on slowly...and almost completely out of order. out of all of my writing it showed off that particular habit of mine, along with “what is this, a shoujo manga?!” though the latter is currently being written chronologically now that I’ve posted chapter one and is pretty solid in direction. it was originally supposed to be a one shot but I got impatient and wanted to post at least something for the sorina / soueri fandom.

however, because ‘soma panics’ (I won’t call it that LOL) is my baby I want to keep true to my rule of refusing to post it until I have a draft of the entire fic finished and I’m satisfied with the main points pretty much. due to my writing out of order, I’m worried I’ll change my mind about scenes or want to reflect things in earlier chapters for later ones etc etc

I joined the SnS fandom extremely late, as season five was airing. I was a fan of the manga five years ago and dropped it because I forgot to check for updates when I caught up 😔 I really want to bang out the different fics and aus for sorina that I have before the fandom fizzles out entirely but tbh I’m writing for myself, I’m manifesting what I want to see and I’ll just share it with all my friends to read if no one else will. cause I’m slow broski I dunno what writing fast even is like LMAO I do really want to write faster though, so I can contribute more and let the words free from the discord dms....

Overnight Sensation: Chungha x Reader

hii! can i request a chungha scenario where her s/o debuts as a soloist that blows up over night?

Your debut stage was in a few hours and you couldn’t believe it. The nerves were getting to you more than ever, you couldn’t eat anything and you only got sleep because your girlfriend forced you to take a sleep aid. As excited as you were, you were also scared something would happen last minute. As every idol knows, nothing is final until you’re on that debut stage. It doesn’t matter if the song is recorded, music video filmed, or social media announcements made. Absolutely nothing means your debut is secured until you are onstage performing.

You felt a hand on your back, “come on babe, get dressed we have to go.” Chungha stood in front of you, dressed like a lazy college student. An oversized t shirt that was definitely yours, a pair of sweatpants, and sneakers. Her hair was in a messy bun with her glasses were sliding off her nose, and a mask covering half her face.

You asked her “why so early? My manager said she’d come get me at 9...it’s 7.” She responded “just trust me, let’s go let’s go!” You sighed and gave in knowing she was probably right. After all she’d already debuted, two times at that.

Sure enough, Chungha was right. Leaving earlier was better because the venue of your debut stage was farther than your manager though. You ended up getting there around 10 am, your managers were just going to meet you there.

You debut stage started at 7 pm but you had to run through multiple dance rehearsals, a sound check, interview prep, photo prep, makeup, hair, and your own personal vocal and dance warm ups. In addition to this you also wanted to check in with your dancers making sure they were fine as well. They were all trainees as well as a few professionals mixed in, but more importantly they were your friends too.

Your girlfriend walked with you to your large dressing room. She set down the gigantic bag that was in her hand. You asked “Jagi what is all of this?” She responded “your weighted heated blanket, your favorite snacks, a lot of water, extra clothes for when you’re done, your massage ball, slides, and pain killers.” You sat down and put on your slides as she handed them over, taking your sneakers in return.

As soon as your team got to the venue, all hell broke loose. You had people running around left and right shouting in Korean, Japanese, and English. You’d already done three dance rehearsals without your costume on, and two with it on. Your feet were killing you and your body ached, and it was only 11 am.

The first sound check was terrible, and you just wanted to go home and go back to sleep. As you danced your IEMs flew out and you couldn’t hear anything, making it hard to perform. You tried your best but had to redo it two more times.

Coming back to the room Chungha saw your discouraged face. She waved off your team who immediately were ready to point you to another task. “Baby whats wrong?” She asked you, her voice full of concern.

In that moment everything just became too much and you broke down in tears. Chungha immediately pulled you into a corner and shooed everyone else away. Holding you in her arms she did her best to calm you down. “Shhh baby it’s ok just breathe and tell me what’s wrong. It’s ok I’m right here. I’ll fix it just tell me the problem” She calmly spoke to you while running circles on your back.

Once your tears subsided you told her “this is too much...I can’t. My custom in ears haven’t come yet so i’m using ones that are too big and they keep coming out while i’m dancing. I’m so tired and my body hurts so much. I don’t even know what i’m doing...why did I want this?”

Your girlfriend’s heart broke upon hearing you, but she knew exactly what to say. “Jagiya look at me” She pushed your head up with her thumb. “You have worked so hard for this. Day and night, for years. You’ve watched your friends debut and you want the same thing, it’s right here all you have to do is just go through with it. I know you can do it ok?” You nodded and she kissed you gently on the lips.

She continued “and I’ll get you time to sleep ok? I just need you to get through about ten more minutes then you can sleep. And i’ll have them tape your in ears so they don’t fall out ok? Every problem has a solution Jagi, it’s gonna be fine.” She kissed you again and got up to talk to your managers.

When she csme back she told you “ok you have 90 minutes to yourself ok? Now lay down and let me massage your legs and back ok?” You let her do as she said and you definitely were starting to feel better. She gave you a few pain killers as well to help with your body aches. Then she laid down with you and pulled you into her arms. You tugged the blanket out of the gigantic bag she brought you earlier, and laid it over you. Within minutes you were sleeping soundly against your girlfriend.

When you woke up Chungha’s arms were still wrapped around you. She kissed the top of your head and said “feel better my love?” You nodded and she said “ok good, you have to get changed again and your makeup done.”

Your stylist gave you your outfit and helped you change into it quickly. The hair stylist didn’t take long with your hair but makeup was different. Your makeup artist was in fact a perfectionist so she took a little extra time paying attention to details.

After preparing for interview questions and pictures, you were able to sit down and relax for a few minutes before you had to go onstage. Chungha attached your mic pack onto your back and made sure your IEMs were securely taped so they couldn’t fall out.

Before heading to perform she pulled you aside, she knew you were nervous and trying to cover it up. “Hey don’t be nervous jagi, you’ll do amazing ok?” She could still read doubt all over your face “Y/N. You have worked so hard for this. Go and enjoy it ok? Smile for me, you’re prettiest when you smile.” She kissed you lips softly before pushing you away towards the stage.

After several hours your debut showcase was finally over. It went extremely well and you were really happy with how everything turned out. As you ran off stage your entire team applauded you and cheered. You felt relieved but you knew this was just the beginning of a new chapter of your life.

You thanked your team and took pictures with your dancers so you could post on SNS later, but right now all you wanted to do was sleep

You ran into Chungha’s arms and she held you close. She kissed you all over your face, telling you how well you did and how beautiful you look. She went to help you change and pack up so you two could go home.

As soon as you make it to your bedroom you collapse onto your bed. Chungha helped you get undressed and into the shower, while she set up the bed so you can sleep. She also took time to scroll through SNS to see what people are saying, so far it’s overwhelmingly positive.

When you came back from the shower she patted the bed and you didn’t hesitate to climb in. She kissed you softly before getting up to quickly brush her teeth and do skincare. When she returned you sleepily smiled to her.

“Whats gotten into you?” She poked you playfully. You responded “i have the most beautiful girlfriend ever...” She laughed and pushed your shoulder lightly “oh stop it you big cheeseball. You’re tired and goofy.”

This time she was the one curling into your body. She whispered “i’m so proud of you Y/N, just wait until tomorrow. Your name will be everywhere.” You replied “goodnight baby i love you, thank you for everything today.” She responded “always.”

When you woke up the next morning Chungha was still asleep, her soft snores filling the room. You picked up your phone and saw you had over 100 notifications. Your manager had been texting you for a few hours, friends, family, everyone you knew was telling you to look up your name online.

You hoped to dear god that it was nothing bad but upon reading the first headline you were relieved. Headline after headline, article after article, post after post, everything was extremely positive.

You woke up your girlfriend and she sleepily looked at your phone. She grabbed her glasses from the nightstand on her side and looked again. Her eyes widened and she threw herself on top of you.

“Oh baby i’m so proud of you! Wow oh my gosh!” She happily shouted. You couldn’t believe your music video had millions of views already, your debut showcase was one of the most watched in soloist history, let alone 4th gen history.

Chungha let you lay back in her arms as she played with your hair. “So...hows it feel to be an overnight sensation?” She asked you curiously with a smile. You felt your cheeks warm up and you laughed “really good...it feels amazing.”

Foreigner -- "I Want To Know What Love Is" -- February 2, 1985

One of the quintessential 80s power ballads. It's actually kind of interesting if you think about it enough. He's not in love yet, but he's gotten sick of not being in love, so he's asking someone he's in the pre-love stage with to show him. Though he's had "heartache and pain" before, and doesn't know if he can face it again. It's not consistent. I feel like it's a missed opportunity, but oh well. It's good enough for what it is.

Wham! -- "Careless Whisper" -- February 16, 1985

Oh my god I love the saxophone in this. The music throughout the song is so incredibly sexy. And this is the kind of song George Michael's voice was made for. He's totally capable of sounding both hot and in agony at the same time. I actually adore a whole lot of cheating songs -- mostly, though not exclusively, the tormented kind. Drama! Love! Sex! Angst! Gorgeous.

REO Speedwagon -- "Can't Fight This Feeling" -- March 9, 1985

<3. He keeps singing "r"s like a pirate, but he doesn't go as hard on the other consonants, so I'm good with it. Lyrically, this song sounds like it might be two songs mashed together. "What started out as friendship has grown stronger" or "my life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you." Well which is it? Except I've had that happen. I love this song.

Phil Collins -- "One More Night" -- March 30, 1985

This is a depressing heartbreak song without the saving grace of any of Phil Collins' neat drum stuff. Blah.

We Are the World -- April 13, 1985

Whoo boy. I was 8 when this came out. Obviously I loved it. All the kids loved it. Now, though... I'm sorry, but it's bad. Really bad. Many others have gone deeply into why it's bad. I feel acutely embarrassed listening to it, so I'm just running away from it as fast as possible. (Remember all those celebrities singing "Imagine" in their mansions in 2020? I blame this song for that.)

Madonna -- "Crazy For You" -- May 11, 1985

This is one of Madonna's most straightforward love songs. Maybe the most, period. This or "Cherish," and this is a better song. It's lovely. Like Olivia Newton-John, Madonna can act a song. (Unlike in most movies she's been in.) But what I'm thinking about now is learning in this article that her label wouldn't let Madonna release "Into the Groove" as a single. That song was huge. It was played on the radio all the time. If it had been released as a single, or maybe if Billboard had tracked songs then like it does today, it would have been a massive smash, definitely #1. "Into the Groove" is also the best song of her very early career. "Crazy for You" is good, but not nearly as special.

Simple Minds -- "Don't You Forget About Me" -- May 18, 1985

As I am "Gen X", I am supposed to deeply connect with The Breakfast Club. I was 8 years old when it came out. My life as a teenager was nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, like that movie. I didn't recognize any of the "types." I liked the movie when I saw it in college, mostly, but the whole sexual harassment turns into a relationship deal was not seen as cool any longer. The "jocks vs. nerds" thing also felt very dated. The school in the movie was bigger and richer than mine, but it's a fantasy.

Anyway, though I don't feel much about the movie, its breakout song was really good. It does speak to a real fear both in graduating high school and during young adult relationships. I haven't forgotten the people I knew in high school, as far as I know, but obviously they don't have the same importance to me any longer. I'm Facebook friends with a lot of them. And very much not with a couple who were the most important then, because we grew apart -- or blasted apart. One of the nicest girls I knew in high school thinks there's a war on Christmas. Another keeps trying to get me to join her MLM. One of my best friends became my first boyfriend, and I don't regret that, but it was also a semi-disaster. And others... we just have nothing to say to each other any longer.

So, Breakfast Club: I don't connect with at all. "Don't You Forget About Me": Speaks to something very real and timeless.

Wham! -- "Everything She Wants" -- May 25, 1985

What a dick. Songs in which the narrator is a colossal jerk are perfectly fine, of course, but this one gets under my skin. He's whining about his wife getting pregnant when she's dissatisfied with their life and that they're broke. As if it's something she chose to do to him. She's stuck creating a whole other person with her blood and flesh, and he thinks it's all and entirely about him. I really hate it.

Tears for Fears -- "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" -- June 8, 1985

I can't hear this song without thinking of this Baldur's Gate fan trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdd06d2nids. Speaking of which, I am incredibly excited for Baldur's Gate 3. I've been reading the early access reviews on Steam, and anything anyone is saying that's negative is stuff I don't gaf about (except bugs), whereas the positive stuff, I care about deeply. I hope it's got some of the feeling of that trailer. Um, right, Tears for Fears.

Honestly, though, it works best as a Baldur's Gate theme song. I don't think everybody actually wants to rule the world. It sounds good though. And pretty different from other stuff around it. But I like Lorde's cover better, and not just because it fits so wonderfully with all sorts of fantasy stories.

I usually play a paladin or paladin-type the first time in fantasy RPGs, but I'm thinking bard this time.

Bryan Adams -- "Heaven" -- June 22, 1985

He's been with this woman since they were young, and while they've broken up and gone through rough patches, now they're together forever and they're "in heaven." Bryan Adams knew exactly how to write a song that would become a hit. I used to not mind it at all, but it also means nothing to me. The chorus is catchy as hell though. So catchy that I ended up waking up with it in my head and it would not leave for hours and hours, so now I resent this song.

Phil Collins -- "Sussudio" -- July 6, 1985

I refuse to believe anyone ever told Phil Collins he was too young. He was born middle-aged. Anyway, the narrator isn't supposed to be him, so it's fine, but it's still kinda funny. He's got a crush on someone who doesn't even know his name, but "she's all I need all of my life." Um. The music is repetitive, the drums aren't as interesting as Phil Collins at his best, and I don't like the lyrics. I don't hate it, but I don't like it either.

Duran Duran -- "View to a Kill" -- July 13, 1985

I'm not sure I've ever heard this song before. It's about as good a song as the Bond movie they wrote it for was as a movie. In other words, it's bad. I'm not even sure there's a melody. Just a mess. "Ordinary World" would have made a far better Bond theme, but of course that was the 90s, when Duran Duran decided to try to make sense both lyrically and musically.

Paul Young -- "Every Time You Go Away" -- July 27, 1985

I like the high keyboard notes in this. They're sort of haunting. The rest of the song is musically pretty good, too. Lyrically though, it's only passable. This woman keeps leaving him every time "the leading man" shows up, so I guess he's the backup. Why does he keep waiting for her anyway? There's no hint in the song. I'm kind of embarrassed for him.

Tears for Fears -- "Shout" -- August 3, 1985

I think "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is a better song than this one when done by Lorde. But I think "Shout" is a better song than Tears for Fears' original iteration of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." The chorus seems clear enough. But the verses are not. "They gave you life/ And in return you gave them hell" makes sense in isolation, but then there's a bunch of stuff that doesn't go with it. Like "I'd really love to break your heart" -- wtf? But the music is really good.

Huey Lewis and the News -- "The Power of Love" -- August 24, 1985

This was the big song for Back to the Future, and it meshed beautifully with the movie, but it doesn't need that association to be a great song. "Don't need money, don't take fame/ Don't need no credit card to ride this train/ It's strong and it's sudden, it can be cruel sometimes/ But it might just save your life." Yep. It's sort of Motown, sort of rock, and I love it. (Also: "Stronger and harder than a bad girl's dream." Heh.)

John Parr -- "St. Elmo's Fire" -- August 24, 1985

Of all the John Hughes movies I have not seen and do not plan to see, St. Elmo's Fire sure is one of them. The song is about a disabled man who inspired people by rolling himself cross-country in his wheelchair for charity, which has absolutely nothing to do with the movie. I'm disabled, and I just... okay look, what he did was admirable. But we shouldn't have to be inspirations to be counted as worthwhile, and I've been told I should die because I can't produce for capitalism, so you know. I've got some personal issues with this and I'm gonna move along.

Dire Straits -- "Money for Nothing" -- September 21, 1985

This is not Dire Straits' best song, but it's an awfully fun one. I watched the video tons when I was a kid. (That sound is Tipper Gore falling to the floor in a dead faint.) The music is great rock. And the lyrics are very true-to-life. You can either sanitize people or present them as they are honestly, and I know which I prefer.

Ready for the World -- "Oh Sheila" -- October 12, 1985

The band's from Michigan. The English accent at the beginning of the song is fake. That's a good preview for the song, which sounds like a 3rd-rate Prince knockoff at best. Blech.

a-ha -- "Take On Me" -- October 19, 1985

The video totally ripped off one of my aunts. Somehow or other, they saw into the little comic she drew for me about someone going into a land of drawings to rescue someone else in a romantic adventure, years before 1985. Anyway, this song is great musically, massively synthesizer heavy without sounding artificial. Though I can only understand maybe a third of the lyrics as he sings them. I've always understood "It's no better to be safe than sorry" though. Yep, at least when it comes to romance, which is what they're singing about here.

Whitney Houston -- "Saving All My Love for You" -- October 26, 1985

It's not better to be safe than sorry, but that doesn't mean it's good to be an absolute idiot in matters of romance either. Nor is it good to be a colossal jerk. That's what the narrator is here -- the "you" she's singing to is married. And he won't leave his wife and children, though he used to say he would. The lyrics seem to say that's she's accepted the situation, but the way Houston sings it, I think the narrator's trying to get him to leave his wife -- and children -- for her still. This makes sense, as it puts some kind of passion and sense of story into the song, which without Houston's singing would not be there. The narrator certainly never acknowledges that what she's doing is wrong in the slightest iota. This song could be done in a way that works. But it's a completely sincere ballad. So, no. I despise the narrator, I despise the man she's singing to more, and the whole thing leaves me feeling gross.

Stevie Wonder -- "Part Time Lover" -- November 2, 1985

No one's thinking anyone's gonna leave anyone in this one. It's about cheating, and the thrill of it, but then at the end, he's found out his wife's cheating on him too. "I guess that two can play the game/ Of part-time lovers." This kind of funk groove is one way you make a song like this. It makes the whole thing sexy and fun, and the lyrics also work even beyond that ending, because they acknowledge it's wrong.

Jon Hammer -- "Miami Vice Theme" -- November 9, 1985

My parents didn't watch Miami Vice. And then I never felt like watching it in re-runs when I got older. I don't recognize this song. It's an energetic instrumental, but there's so much going on, I keep trying to figure out if there's a main musical idea anywhere. Nope. Just lots and lots of synth. Headache-inducing.

Starship -- "We Built This City" -- November 16, 1985

Blech. This song sounds both unfinished and overproduced somehow. The chorus seems designed to be catchy with absolute ruthlessness by people who didn't really care, and no one involved even seems to want to bother to fake it.

Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin -- "Separate Lives" -- November 30, 1985

This is supposed to be heart-wrenchingly sad. Well, it does tank my dopamine, but that's not what a good sad song does. A good sad song makes you feel better. This one makes me need to turn on something high-energy after about 30 seconds, before I sink into bleakness. It's aggressively boring.

Mr. Mister -- "Broken Wings" -- December 7, 1985

This was one of the first songs I recorded from the radio. On my pink tape deck/radio that was a sort of a mini boom box. I've always had my own tape player since I can remember, but that was a definite upgrade from the Sesame Street one. I was 9 then, so getting more seriously into music and developing my own taste intentionally, rather than simply absorbing what was happening around me.

Anyway, the song. It's about a relationship in trouble, and he wants to stay with her. To me it sounds like she has been so seriously hurt (and not by him), that she can't trust anyone, and he's laying himself on the line for her. That has spoken to me deeply ever since I first heard the song as a child. Moving on to the music: While the lyrics are repetitive, the music is not, which is what makes the song so good. It's a beautiful song.

Lionel Richie -- "Say You, Say Me" -- December 21, 1985

I look forward to Lionel Richie no longer being on the charts. This song was on the soundtrack of some movie I've never heard of. I wish I'd never heard of the song. Totally artificial glop.

I read every single Emerald fic on FFN so you don’t have to

There are 66 fics with Emerald listed in the tags.

First, I took out any fic that was either not in English or actually gameverse, leaving me with 38 fics-- though I will say, the Spanish fics look like they slap

After filtering out “everyone appears” fics (I skimmed them to make sure) I was left with 26 fics. (While I would like to include “everyone appers” fics, I do not have the time nor motivation to read 30,000 words of derring-do and melodramatic heroics seventeen times in a row for Emerald to show up, deliver 2 lines, shoot something, and leave)

From there, I sorted them into various categories based on whether Emerald was a BG character or not, whether the fic had romance, whether Emerald was actually PART of that romance, etc. Then, finally, I was ready.

Below the cut are the reviews of all twenty six fanfictions!

Category 1: BG Emerald Every fic needs side characters, whether to provide extra voices or comedic relief or just a foil for the MCs. These fics don’t feature Emerald in a huge capacity, but he’s there and that’s what matters to me. I came into this site expecting anything: third wheel Rald, wingman Rald, Im-only-here-to-complain-about-your-flirting-Rald... I found everything but! It seems the most cliche writers among us don’t like using the Emerald tag, bc the few Frantic-with-BG-Emerald fics with I did find turned out to be spectacular! I’m pleasantly surprised and impressed.

1. That Special Someone - Team Cap Cap is on this list like 30 times so get used to it. This fic is mostly about Ruby refusing to shut up about Sapphire and how much he loves her (and how Emerald finds it infuriating). The details of this fic are super cute and the way Ruby and Emerald interact added 3 years to my lifespan, so I highly recommend this one if you want a nice, relaxing read involving the Hoenn boys (dare I say best boys?). In short, read this fic and all of Cap’s other fics while you’re at it.

2. A Picnic - Team Cap Oh look. It’s Cap again. This fic, surprise surprise, is also good, and while it’s a little more basic than the others (Emerald runs into Ruby/Sapphire at a park and they mess around), it’s still cute and I still love it! Not really much else to say here... but the fic is good and I recommend if you’re in for some light domestic reads.

3. High Hopes and Checkered Skies - aromatisse I’ll be honest: my general opinion of frantic fics with BG Emerald is... low. A lot of them shoehorn my poor boy into whatever the plot requires at the cost of his characterization but this fic really surprised me in the best way! This one features Sapphire bringing Ruby to a “special place” the two of them arguing, and Emerald having to patch things up (mature Emerald? I don’t believe it!!). I found this fic while making this list and immediately bookmarked it bc THIS SHIT GOOD FAM. Please read this.

4. Alpha and Omega- Ruby and Sapphire's Thoughts - Shadoweevee70 Not much to say about this to be honest. It’s exactly what it says on the tin. No plot, no development, not even 500 words. Emerald has a line. I think two.

5. Boundaries - Team Cap This fic hurt my heart. Though it focuses on Wally’s one-sided crush on Sapphire, there’s a touch of Emerald in there acting as Wally’s emotional support buddy, which tells me that either Emerald has matured or Hoenn is just devoid of emotionally stable individuals. Regardless, this fic is heartbreaking and beautiful but contains very little Emerald, so therefore I have very little to review. In short... not a lot of Rald, but you should read it anyway.

6. Summer Days - eonentity Crystal and Silver go on a “date” and Gold + Emerald try and stop them. It’s cute, it’s honestly kind of creepy if you think about it, and it involves Emerald. While the premise is kind of sketch, the banter between Gold and Emerald is incredible and I really like the general progression of the plot (especially the ending!) This is a very cute fic if you’re looking for something simple to read. Highly recommend, utilizes Emerald as a character really well!

Category 3: MC Emerald (gen) This... this is my bread and butter baby. These fics run the gamut from friendship to domestic to drabbles to angst and everything in between, but the gist of it is that it includes Emerald as a focus without pairing him off. Not to say this is my favorite category... but it is. I’m biased, sue me.

1. Family Inclusion - Team Cap They say to leave the best for last, but I disagree. You’ll realize pretty quickly that Cap is one of my favorite authors to appear in this tag, and this fic is one of her best! I’m focusing on Chapter 3 (that’s the part with Emerald) where he has to entertain a shiny baby Ralts while Ruby and Sapphire are away (everybody say awwww). The fic is stupid cute, and while it doesn’t really offer much in terms of character development or stakes, it’s the type of domestic fluff you can read over and over and still find just precious each and every time. Also... Emerald takes care of a baby pokemon how can you NOT love that. Seriously. Look at this.

2. At the Amusement Park - Team Cap Oh wow, another Cap fic I really like. What a surprise. I’m astounded /s. This fic focuses on Emerald’s dilemma of being short at a place where height restrictions mercilessly mock the vertically challenged and how he deals with it with the “help” of Ruby and Sapphire. Though there is background Frantic (which shouldn’t really come as a surprise), this fic mostly focuses on Emerald’s insecurities and his relationship with the trio. It’s introspective, it’s wholesome, I’ve read it six or seven times (I lost count). Regardless, it’s good, and like every other Cap fic on this list, I demand you read it. That is a threat.

3. Frantic Fight - Puph17 Any fic that drops a line like “margarine is in vogue” within the first three lines is immediately propelled to my top ten fics of all time list and this is clearly no exception. Despite the name, this isn’t franticshipping, just Ruby and Sapphire bickering and Emerald / Wally being annoyed about it. This fic, hands down, is one of the funniest pieces of fanfiction I’ve ever read on this godforsaken site. I am begging you to read this fic, if not for Emerald with a megaphone for the sheet amount of laughter it will cause. This fic may not be deep but it sure as hell is hysterical. ... Well, what are you waiting for? Why are you still here? Go read the fic, we’re wasting daylight.

4. Weird War - storm-aurora This is another fic I think I’ve probably read a dozen times and refuse to get tired of. Emerald and Sapphire are having a paintball fight in Slateport market, and I literally could not ask for a better friendship fic. The writing is high quality, the characters are very accurate (altho bc this is fanfic it doesn’t matter all that much), the friendships feel real, they’re having a paintball war.... everything about this is ideal. This is the quality content I live for. Please PLEASE read this fic, you’ll be happy you did. Close this tab and go read it immediately for your sake and mine.

5. Skydrop - ayasato Not a lot of people write about Emerald. The ones that do, for whatever reason, seem to do it very, VERY well. This fic, which is so long it might as well be considered an epic, is probably the piece de resistance of Emerald friendship fics. While not as snappy or funny or domestic as some of the other fics in this list, it more than makes up for it with a beautifully built slowburn friendship between Emerald and Sapphire, my favorite take on his living situation I’ve ever seen, and enough introspection to make your high school English teacher swoon. This fic is a must for any Emerald fan, even if it takes like an hour to read in full. It may be long but it’s magnificent.

6. Croissant Kings - ayasato The fact that this fic is discontinued is irrefutable proof that this is the timeline god abandoned. Emerald and Pearl running a croissant stand is quite possibly the single most absurd fic concept I’ve ever heard but... it works. Somehow? It works. This fic is perhaps, hands down, one of the most ridiculously entertaining concepts and executions I have ever seen in my life. Everything about it, from the setup to the writing to just Emerald being Emerald is so raw and so ridiculous that I smile fondly when I think of it. I wish there were more than 3 chapters, however...

7. Perfect - Micah Debrink I’m gonna be straight with y’all: I don’t like this fic. I’m not too sure what the plot is, and it was certainly an interesting read, but not my cup of tea. It’s good, don’t get me wrong; the writing is mature, very well paced, and overall well-written, but something about the characterizations is just not vibing with me. Thus, I’m not gonna pretend I thought this fic was perfect (har har) but I will say it’s something you should give a try. I’m admittedly a very biased party, so maybe you’ll enjoy this fic more than I did. For sure give it a shot, because maybe you’ll like it more than I did. This ain’t my jam, but it’s quality preserves nonetheless.

8. Roost - ayasato This is short and sweet and may have some Sapphire/Emerald crushing if you squint, but overall a fun read. Very short, very good, give it a shot. This author is very high quality and that’s that on that.

9. One Day - Jian-Kenkoku This is short yet again but has a super interesting (if poorly explained) premise: Emerald gets adopted by Gold / his mom! This short oneshot details his first day, and while it is a tad rushed, it gives me the Emerald family content I have been sorely lacking. Not sure if this is one of my “reread until my eyes bleed” fics, but it’s certainly worth the trouble of reading through! It’s very cute and I recommend!

10. Emerald: Lying to Himself - reminiscent-afterthought Very poetic and extremely well-written, but less than 200 words. This fic took me thirty seconds to read and it feels like time well spent. Please read it, even if for the sole reason that it’s super short. It’s also a super poetic way to talk about the Emerald arc.

11. Go Away Gold! - jayfeatherelle Ah yes, the “little brother enlists the help of a prankster to keep apart his sister and her boyfriend” trope... This may be cliche, but it sure as hell was enjoyable! Emerald enlists the help of Meddler Blue (side note: where did this trope come from bc she never does anything in canon that would be qualified as meddling other than just messing with Red at any given opportunity). Anyway, this fic is adorable, has a lesson at the end (that surprised me), had a really mature conclusion, and gave me Blue / Emerald friendship I really didn’t know I needed. In short? This is a cliche done well. It’s predictable, sure, but that’s not a bad thing! If anything, it’s a great nostalgic read.

12. What if: Emerald never met Crystal - LetEveryoneOveraRip This fic stole the last little bit of hope I didn’t even know I still had. You thought it couldn’t get more violent or sad? You were wrong. Everyone dies. This fic made me sad for like 45 minutes and I feel emotionally manipulated. I guess I should have seen this coming. Not much else to say except that this fic made me really sad, which, of course it did, but I still feel cheated out of a happy ending regardless.

13. Emerald Owner’s Guidance and Maintenance Manual - Pokerescue18 Nothing happens in this fic. It’s literally an instruction manual and it’s well written and all but also has no plot. It is quite literally what it says in the title, so perhaps this should have been obvious but even still, I was left confused after reading this. I think I need a nap.

14. Through My Eyes - Kaith1 Relationship angst that hurt my heart. This is less than 400 words so again, took me only around a minute to leave but the emotional impact scarred me for life. Very well done! This fic details Emerald’s inner turmoil as Gold and Crystal get together and Emerald worries he’ll be abandoned again. While I do feel like Emerald hating the two of them for getting together is a little ehhh, this fic does a great job of showing why Emerald would be so upset about it and his inner motivations for being so hurt by it. While I don’t agree, the author made me “get it” a little more, and for that I say bravo!

15. At the Fair - IanDonyer This one is short and focuses on Emerald meeting a security guard at a Halloween fair kinda deal. It’s also one of the first Emerald fics on FFN, released far before the remakes even came out! While obviously it doesn’t contain much in terms of character development, it also was written with only the Emerald arc to go off of-- so I can easily overlook any character inconsistencies. That being said, this fic is really cute and uses the OC pov really well! If you’re looking for a blast from the past, check this fic out!

Category 4: Emerald shipping fics On the rare occasion where the blue moon hangs melancholy in the sky, the planets align, and starlight rains down from the heavens... someone ships Emerald with another character. Romantically. Not sure where the aversion to shipping him came from, but for whatever reason everyone prefers him single. These authors, these brave knights, they’re changing that. Hell yeah for romance.

1. Left Out - RedCharmeleon Not to be like “this fic is painfully straight...” but yknow. Emerald is upset at Gold/Crystal’s wedding because he’s the only single one and needs a girlfriend. There’s also a “what are you, gay?” joke in here, which soured my mood for the rest of the fic. I’ll be honest, I never really liked the “all male protag / female protag ships and then taking Silver, Pearl, and Emerald and pairing them off with OCs” deal, so I’m heavily biased against this fic, but the writing is decent and the plot is fine. If you enjoy this style of plot (everyone needs to be paired up, blushing galore, love at first sight, everyone acts like they stumbled out of a hallmark movie script) then this is the fic for you!

2. Glances - Diemerald A collection of drabbles about Emerald and Wally becoming friends and falling in love. I’ve read it seven times now. While the plot is a tad disjointed because of the format, this author really NAILS Emerald’s character. Emerald (and Wally) show a lot of growth between the snippets and god it’s so beautiful I need more of it. Please read this fic. Tell your neighbors about this fic. This fic is fantastic.

2. Revolvershipping Cuddles - Charmerruby You’re never gonna guess what this one is about. It’s very cute but it’s literally just fluff. Very cute, like marshmallows. This is kinda short so there isn’t really much to say, but I will am starving for Emeruby content, so though this be but little, it be fierce. And fluffy. Did I mention cute? This fic is so filled with love my heart grew three sizes after reading it. I could keep calling it adorable, but I don’t think that’s productive. Spend the time reading this fic instead.

3. Misunderstandings - Pokeluv101 Reading this was very weird because I know the person who made the OC the story is centered around. Reading even the names thrust me so violently back into my middle school days I can almost taste the edge. It’s very good, and I suggest giving it a read even if you’re not a huge dexholder/OC fan. Also tsun Emerald is good Emerald.

4. Unexpected - Diemerald A fic about Emerald and Yellow falling in love. Not exactly my cup of tea so I skimmed it but this author is really good so it’s a great fic, even if it’s not to my tastes. I suggest giving it at least a once over because this author worked hard and I respect them, even if this isn’t really... my thing. Check it out!

5. Big Changes - Aquatales You know how I said I would read every Emerald fic? I lied. This one is about Emerald getting genderbent and immediately shipped with Wally against his will by his friends. Reading the summary gave me hives and I could not bring myself to read it in full.

Final Thoughts While I’ll be honest and say that I did find some of the the cliche fics I was expecting, I was incredibly and happily surprised to discover that more often than not, the people who bother to publish Emerald fics really care about his character and publish some pretty high quality stuff, and that’s pretty damn cool. There are shipping fics, BG Emerald fics, MC Emerald fics, and most of them are pretty fantastic! Way to go spe fandom writers, you did my boy justice, all..... 10 of you.

So Pokemon Sword/Shield? Yeah... I want to like it, but I just can’t. There’s too many issues that made my experience just not as enjoyable as past Pokemon games. I think it’d be very fair to say Sword/Shield needed more time in development... and people in the Dev Team who made logical decisions.

Here’s why Sword/Shield is objectively bad in my honest opinion:

1.) Max Raid Battles.

Without Nintendo Online, Max Raid Battles are a dumpster fire. They aren’t even really difficult. Sure, the 2 moves in 1 turn is annoying along with the barrier mechanic, but they’re pretty easy to tolerate. What makes Max Raid Battles just the worst is the fact the NPCs are not useful in the slightest. In my experience, I kept getting paired with that Salazzle and unevolved Pokemon. Salazzle dies in one hit. The unevolved Pokemon die in one hit (but thank god certain ones have Focus Sash to die in two hits I guess). If 4 Pokemon die, you’re kicked out of the battle. If this wasn’t bad enough, they typically don’t do any damage. More often than not when the NPCs can attack, I cannot visibly see the opponent’s HP go down. That is if they even attack at all. The NPC Solrock? Yeah. It’d much rather spam Cosmic Power and Rock Polish. The NPC Togepi? It’s gonna spam Life Dew even if it isn’t needed. The AI is specifically designed to encourage (read as: force) you to use the multiplayer features.

The AI would be a really simple fix though. The devs would’ve just needed to: let the NPCs level up after certain points in the story with them being at their strongest just before you fight Leon, give the NPCs evolved Pokemon after a certain point in the story (like maybe after the 5th gym), and allow you to choose from a list of NPCs instead of being randomly generated so you don’t end up with that useless Salazzle for the 5th time in a row against a Pokemon that it literally is not going to help you out against.

But, no, if you want pain free Max Raid Battles, you gotta pay for Nintendo Online. Sorry, but I, along with many others, who haven’t purchased a subscription yet probably aren’t going to for a single game. Just sayin’.

2.) The Wild Area + Exploration.

With how much focus was placed on the Wild Area itself, I thought it was going to replace routes. It... didn’t. Instead, it’s just a place you really only need to visit... twice? Outside of going through the story to get from Point A to Point B, this place may as well just not exist. Which sucks because it was so hyped up in the trailers. I would’ve personally loved to see everything being connected by this central field that leads to forests and caves which in turn lead to the different towns. But no. It’s just pretty much an empty field.

Even though there’s very little there, it’s pretty obvious a lot of development time went into the Wild Area. The 10 routes are short as heck, most of which don’t even take two minutes to get through. The two caves and two forests are extremely linear, so much so it’s impossible to get lost in them thus making the escape rope (which is a key item for whatever reason) useless. The most exploration I had outside of the Wild Area was that water maze in route 9 which is right before the end-game. Having played Pokemon since I was 6, this was really shocking and admittedly upsetting. I love exploring new areas and even getting lost. The ability to even get turned around was destroyed due to the extreme linearity. Honestly, the only place I got even slightly confused in was Glimmerwood Tangle and that was only due to the fact it was so dark that it was difficult to see where the path was. If the lighting hadn’t been that bad, I would’ve been in and out of Glimmerwood Tangle in 2 minutes, if even that.

3.) Overworld Pokemon + “Random” Encounters.

I like the idea of overworld Pokemon since they help make the world lively. I have imagined Pokemon eventually reaching this state since I was little. But they can so easily impede you when you’re searching for something specific that’s restricted to being hidden in the grass. There were so many times an exclamation point popped up and I tried rushing to it only for one of the overworld Pokemon to unexpectedly get in my way. Once you have that encounter with the overworld Pokemon, that hidden Pokemon is long gone. This made catching my Applin incredibly tedious.

One of the easiest solutions would’ve been to make the grass encounters actually random like the past games. None of this having to run to an exclamation point. But wait. There’s something wrong with the hidden Pokemon too.

The overworld Pokemon can be encountered as hidden. Which... no thanks. I truly believe if there’s a specific Pokemon in the overworld of a particular area, they should not be able to be encountered as a hidden Pokemon. For example, in route 4, all I wanted was a Milcery. Milcery does not appear as an overworld Pokemon. But Meowth does. If I wanted a Meowth on Route 4, I’d actively run into one of the many Meowths and catch it. I don’t wanna see something that I can easily run into as a hidden encounter in the very location I can run into it.

4.) The Story.

While the stories in Pokemon have never been too terribly complex, Gen 8′s was... well... I’d prefer reading a book I read when I was learning to read back when I was 3. Gen 8′s story was pretty shallow, even when compared to past Pokemon games. You’re just kinda spoon fed information and told to accept it. The antagonist doesn’t really have a role until the end. Then you deal with the antagonist for... not even an hour, it’s maybe like 30 minutes, if even that. So all this, admittedly bad, build-up for... barely 30 minutes. The build-up’s bad because the antagonist doesn’t play a role until the final... like... hour, if even that, of the main campaign.

And even then the antagonist doesn’t come across as a bad person. They’re just doing what they think is right and, like, honestly... I can understand why they did this. I thought it was gonna be about why capitalism is bad, but no. It’s why Leon’s actually a jerk.

Antagonist: We need to invest in alternative energy sources. Leon, a protagonist who everyone is supposed to love: But 1,000 years is really far in the future. I don’t care.

Really a bad message to have when our actual real world is fucked, ya know?

5.) The Characters.

Most of the plot important (I use “plot important” very loosely) characters could be replaced by lamps. Bede? He could be a lamp and nothing would change. Marnie? She could be a lamp and nothing would change. Then they also tried to make Piers and Team Yell important?? But, really... they contributed nothing. They could’ve been completely taken out of that segment near the end of the game and nothing would change. Sonia and Leon? Honestly, we didn’t need both of them. Leon could’ve been deleted with Sonia gaining his status as Champion or Sonia could’ve been excluded and Leon takes on her research.

I like what they were aiming for with Hop. But... there wasn’t enough content to really flesh him out as much as he should’ve been.

Conclusion: Was it worth my $60 or the 23 hours that I can now never get back? No. Especially as I went in expecting it to be on par with at least XY, but... it just wasn’t.

Send My Love (To Your New Lover) Part Nine

Summary: It’s time for ACL.

Warnings: fluff, mentions of sex, drinking

A/N: Here we are. Part 9 a day early! I’m not entirely happy with this part, I moved things a long pretty quick, but I’m hoping part 10 will be better. My husband, son, and I have all been sick with the flu, so my mind has been foggy and I feel like I haven’t been able to get my ideas to play out right. We’ll see. Not every part is a winner. But I hope you all enjoy!

The following day you’re sitting in the back of a car headed to set for a night shoot, with little Juno sleeping in your lap, and scrolling through your Instagram feed, when you suddenly become overrun by notifications. You check to see what could possibly be going on and find the People Magazine has tagged you in a post. You click on it to see what it is. Probably just them giving people sneak peeks of you on set or something. What you weren’t expecting, were the pictures of you and Jake kissing on the sidewalk outside of the sandwich shop.

“Shit shit shit.” You guys had tried your best to keep everything quiet, you weren’t ready for the world to know. You take a screen shot and send it to Jake before calling him. He answers after the second ring.

“Hey, I was just getting ready to call you.” You hear the ding on the other side of the phone. He must have gotten your picture.

“Look at that. I just sent you something.” You try to hide the anxiousness in your voice.

“Yeah, I saw it. I just got slammed with notifications.”

“Me too. What are we going to do?”

“Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to let them ruin what we have. I know we haven’t officially said anything or really talked about it, but I want to be with you. I want to show you off. I want this.”

“No, I do too. I just-I was-I just wanted it to ours for a while longer. Not because I don’t want everyone to know about us, but because I liked that it was just us and our small circle of people that knew.”

“I understand that. I liked it too, but we should have known this was going to happen eventually. I mean, I’m not a small name in the film industry and your name is growing bigger every day. You’re not just being known for being Anne Walker, anymore.”

“I know. I just wish we could have been the ones to tell everyone.”

“Me too, but it’s out and all we can do is run with it. I love spending time with you and I want you to be my girl. I didn’t really want to do this over the phone, but there isn’t any going back.”

You’re quiet for a minute. “You really want to be with me?”

“Why wouldn’t I? You’re amazing and beautiful and you have the biggest heart of anyone I know.” You can hear his smile in his voice and it makes you smile. “I know, you’re nervous about me, but I promise you that I’m not like him. I’ve been trying to show you that this entire time. You deserve someone who will treat you the way you deserve to be treated. I know he messed you up pretty bad, but I’m going to make you believe in love again.”

“I want to be with you. You make me so happy, happier than I’ve been in a long time.” You bite your lip. “Let’s do this, Jake. Let’s show the world.”

“Hell fucking yeah!”

You laugh at his outburst. “I guess we have some phone calls to make. I don’t really want my parents finding out about you in some magazine article and I should call Jane and Amanda to let them know what’s going to happen during interviews and things.”

“Okay. Well, I’m done with set today, but I was going to come back and have dinner with you. I thought we could avoid the food tent and I could grab some food from your favorite Italian place.”

“Oh my gosh! Yes! I could definitely go for their chicken parm! I don’t deserve you. You’re the best!”

He laughs. “You deserve the world. Just call me when you know what time you’ll be eating, and I’ll be there.”

“You’re the best, Jake.” You smile, petting Juno a she looks up at you.

“No problem, babe. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Talk to you later.” You hang up and enjoy the rest of your ride to set with a smile on your face.

Your parents and everyone else were happy that you finally found someone that makes you happy. Jared and Gen kept pushing you to bring him home for ACL and on vacation with you all, but you told them that you would have to talk to Jake. You didn’t want to assume that he would go anywhere just yet, but you had to ask him soon. You were flying out to Texas in two weeks.

You were sitting around set between scenes, when Gen text you, asking if you had asked him yet. You bite you lip and look around. Hoping to catch sight of your boyfriend. You spot him moving to his mark as the crew around him sets up for filming. He looks over at you and smiles. Things have been going great since the photos came out. Filming was almost done, and you couldn’t wait to relax a little before you had to fly back and forth to Atlanta and Vancouver. You were nervous to ask Jake about ACL and Greece.

You stood up from your chair and walked over to him, while everyone was still setting. When you’re close enough, he reaches out and puts his hands on your hips. You both lean in for a kiss. When you pull apart you just smile at him for a moment.

“What’s up?”

“I have something to ask you.” You run your hands up his arms, until they reach his shoulders. “I’m hoping that you’ll say yes, but I’ll understand if you can’t or don’t want to.”

“Well, I’m sure I’ll want to, as long as you will be with me.”

“Of course, I will be, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to.”

“Just spit it out.” He laughs.

“Jared and Gen have been bugging me for weeks, to ask you if you would come to Texas and Greece with me. Every year we go to this music festival in Texas and we usually take a trip, sometimes with the kids and sometimes without. This year the kids are staying with Gen’s parents for the week. I’ve arranged my schedule enough that I’ll be able to keep up the tradition, before I have to fly back here and finish filming those last two weeks. Then after filming they’ll be flying here on their way home from Rome and Jared and I are going to fly back to Vancouver together. And then-“

“Y/N. Breathe, babe.” He cuts off your rambling.

“Sorry, I just have everything planned out. I had it all planned out before I met you and I know it’s last minute to ask you, but I was nervous.”

“When are you supposed to leave?”

You scrunch your face. “Two weeks.”

He huffs out a breath. “Two weeks?”

“Yeah, I’m sorry. I should have asked you earlier.”

“No, it’s fine. I’ll have to check my schedule, but I’m pretty sure I don’t have anything going on for a little while. We won’t start the press tour until December and we are almost done filming. You said we would get back before the last two weeks of filming?” You nod. “I’m sure I can work something out. I know I can make it to Texas for sure, but I’ll have to let you know about Greece.”

You smile. “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure. I would get to spend some more time with my best girl, why wouldn’t I want to go?”

You wrap your arms around his neck and hug him close. “I seriously don’t deserve you.” He laughs and hugs you close before the director calls everyone to their spots. “I’m gonna go call Genevieve! I’ll book your ticket too! Oh my gosh, this is great!” You kiss him once, twice, three times before running off. His laughter following you.

Before you knew it, you and Jake were walking through the airport, looking for Jared after grabbing your luggage.

“I don’t know how we haven’t seen him. He’s the tallest guy I know and yet, I can’t find him anywhere.”

“Well, he’s here somewhere. We’ll find him.”

You scroll through your contacts until you find Jared’s name and call him. Putting the phone to your ear, you wait for him to pick up as you continue to look around.

“Hello?”

“Where are you? We just picked up our luggage. You said you were going to meet us by the carousel.”

“I’m coming. I thought I had found the perfect parking spot, but then found out that someone parked their scooter in it. Who drives a scooter to the airport? I’m walking through the doors now.”

You turn towards the entrance and spot his beanie covered head. “Oh, I see you!” You wave you arm that was holding the phone, in the air, since the other one was holding Juno. He catches the movement out of the corner of his eye and turn towards you. A big smile gracing his face and you both hang up. You speed walk towards him, careful not to lose Jake or your luggage.

“I forgot who short you were! How are you smaller than Gen?” He goes to pull you into a hug, but you punch him in the gut. He laughs and drags you towards him. “It’s great to see you, Bug.”

“I missed you! London has been great, but nothing beats Texas!”

“Well let’s get you home.” He turns towards Jake and sticks his hand out. “Hey man. It’s great to see you.”

“Likewise. Thanks for letting me tag along with Y/N.”

“No problem. We wouldn’t leave her alone until she asked you.”

“Okay. Let’s get home to Gen. I want to see the kids!”

“Alright. Calm down.” The men laugh as Jared takes your luggage from you and Jake wraps his am around your waist and pulls you close, careful not to jostle the husky puppy too much.

You all spent the first couple of days just hanging around with the kids and swimming. Jared’s parents watched the kids one night, so the four of you could go out. Finally, ACL came, and you were beyond excited. You couldn’t wait to share the experience with Jake and to have a blast with your best friends.

After getting dressed and eating breakfast, you all pile in Gen’s SUV. Halfway to the field, Jared glances at you in the rearview mirror. “Hey, Bug?”

You meet his gaze. “Yeah, Moose?”

“I thought I should warn you that uh-that Jensen and Danneel will be there.” He watches for a reaction and kind of surprised when you don’t explode.

“I kind of figured he would, Jare. He goes every year, just like I do. He’s not going to take this from me. I brought him to his first festival.”

“I know. I just wanted to let you know. That way there wouldn’t be any surprises, like with the lake.”

You huff a laugh. “He’s not gonna rain on my parade. I’ve got my man, I’ve got my cute puppy, and I’ve got my best friends. I’m going to have the best time ever.” You smile at him. A genuine smile.

He smiles back. His eyes crinkling in the mirror. “That’s my girl.”

“He is going to ask questions though. He already has been, but we haven’t told him much about you guys.” Gen pipes up from her spot in the passenger seat, turning back to look at you and Jake.

“Not like it’s any of his business, but he’ll get all the answers he needs today.” Jake puts his two-cents in, putting his hand on your knee as you nod.

The rest of the drive is filled with lighter conversation until Jared is being directed into a parking spot. You all climb out and meet at the trunk. Jake takes Juno from you, giving you a break from holding her. You open your backpack and pull out headphones that you often see infants wear during loud events. Juno was mostly deaf, and you didn’t want to damage it anymore than it was. You slipped the headphones over her ears and laugh at how cute she is, the others laughing with you.

“Poor girl, but this is for the best. You know that she would have been fine if you had left her with Arlo.” Jared says behind you.

“Yeah, but she doesn’t know where she is, and I don’t know how she would do. She’s always with me, it wouldn’t be right to leave her at home. Plus, she still chews things up every now and then. We would get home and find her asleep in one of your shoes, Moose. Probably passed out from all of the fumes.”

“Ha ha ha. My feet don’t stink.”

“Sure, they don’t sweetie.” Gen jokes with him as she rubs his arm in affection.

You all laugh before moving with the crowd, VIP tickets within your grips. Your own spot carved out in the crowd. A little pavilion near the main stage, loaded with food and drinks and a couple of couches and chairs.

Once your all settled, Jake puts Juno down and you clip her leash on her collar. She’s bigger to the point, that you don’t have to worry about people stepping on her, if she walks around on her own. As long as she keeps her headphones on, she should be pretty happy. You’re excited to see all the people and listen to all the great bands that are lined up for the weekend.

You turn to Jake as he offers you an open beer before opening his own. “Let’s go walk around. I want to see what food trucks are here! Last year, they had the best taco truck and if it’s here again, I’m so getting some.” He laughs but takes your hand.

“Lead the way.”

You turn to Gen and Jared. “Are you guys coming?”

Jared looks apprehensive as he looks from Gen to you. “We’re gonna wait for Jensen. You know he always gets lost when he first gets here.”

You slump a little but understand. “Okay. We’ll be back soon.”

He gives you a nod and Gen gives you a smile, before you and Jake head out into the crowd.

You both know it’s unavoidable that you will be spotted, so you just enjoy each other and everything around you. Jake wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you into him as you wrap an arm behind his back. You lean up and kiss his, careful not to bump the brims of your baseball hats.

“You’re going to love it. This is by far the best music festival around.”

“I’m sure it’ll be great. Just being here with you, already makes it the best.” He smiles down at you as you laugh.

“God, you’re so cheesy.”

“Yeah, but you love it.”

You just laugh and nod. You’re both spotted by a small group of girls. They shyly move towards you both, excitement on their faces, phones being pulled form their back pockets. You give them a smile and wave as the move in front of you.

“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe it! I never thought I’d get to meet you here!”

“You’re both here! So, it’s true! You guys are so cute together!”

“This is amazing! Can we get a picture with you guys?”

The girls throw questions around as pictures are being taken and you both sign their lanyards. You answer questions as easy as possible, without giving too much away. You leave them with smiles and waves.

“Does that happen every time?”

“Every year, but we ask for it when we come out here. The fans in the area have pretty much learned that we come every year, so they are always on the lookout for us.”

“And it doesn’t keep you from coming?”

“No, are fans are everything to us. Without them, we wouldn’t have gotten this far. We would have been done a long time ago. So, we never turn them away.”

“I guess, I never really understood that. I’ve never had to really deal with this.”

“I guess it’s different being on a long running tv show, then being in movies.”

“That and my fan following is usually older. I haven’t done a lot of family friendly movies.”

“Well if you stick around long enough, then you’ll fit in really quick.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” He draws you in closer and kisses your temple.

After walking around for a while, you both decide to head back to your pavilion. You’re anxious to see Jensen again. Not because you care what he thinks, but because you haven’t seen him since Comic-Con and things were tense. You know he brought Danneel with him and it’s going to be awkward, you both brought your significant others, and this will be the first time that anything like this has happened.

Juno stops outside of the cemented platform to use the bathroom and Jake takes her leash so that you can move inside, while he stands with her. You don’t see Jared and Gen or even Jensen when you move in. You see that familiar head of red hair. Her back towards you as she looks through the snacks that were provided for you. You try to act like it doesn’t bother you that she’s here, like she didn’t help destroy your relationship.

You move through the area and she hears someone behind her and turns. For the first time, you both stare at each other.

“Oh. I didn’t know you were going to be here.” She tells you.

Keeping calm, you tell her, “I come every year. I’m the one the introduced Jensen to it.”

“He didn’t tell me.”

“Yeah, he’s good about that.”

“Look, I don’t want this to be awkward, but-“

“Just-Let’s not even say anything. I’ve never talked to you. I might have moved on finally, but that I’m not still pissed off. I’m here to have a good time with my best friends and my boyfriend. You’re here to have a good time with Jensen. Let’s keep it that way, by keeping that subject locked away. I’m not saying we’ll be best friends forever, but we can act civil towards each other.”

She studies you for a moment before nodding and turning towards the fridge. “Would you like a beer?”

“Sure. Can I have two please? I’m sure Jake will want one once he comes inside with Juno.”

“Juno?” She turns her head to look at you as she pulls the beers from the fridge.

“My dog.”

“Oh. I thought-“

“I know.” You huff a sarcastic laugh. “Don’t worry, he’s not hiding any children from you.”

She turns and hands the beers to you as voices rise behind you. Laughter and male voices talking over each other before three tall man and a tiny woman move in. The four-missing people from your party all come to a stop when they see you and Danneel standing close to the fridge. You take the beers from her and move towards Jake after he lets Juno off of her leash. You hand him one of the beers and he pulls you into his side.

“Everything okay?” He asks as you give him a small smile.

“Yeah, everything’s fine.” You tell him as you cast your gaze over to Dee one more time before shifting your eyes to the others. “Hi Jensen.”

He clears his throat. “Hey, Y/N/N” He says before moving over towards Danneel and taking the beer she offers him.

As the night goes on, the tension becomes less and less. Everyone acts as if nothing is wrong for the sake of each other. You and Jake standing in the crowd listening to all the different band and singers playing their hit songs. Pictures being taken often with fans. Jared and Jensen taking their fair number of pictures with fans, just like you. The three of you often squeezing together for pictures with fans. Letting the alcohol flow through you, keeping everything at ease and everyone happy. You dance with Gen and make nice conversation with Danneel. You all look like the happiest group of friends to the crowd around you.

Eventually the last performer finishes their set and the crowd starts to thin. You always book rooms in the hotel down the street and decide to walk over instead of risking your lives, by one of you trying to drive.

You and Jake get settled into your room. You had already taken a shower and was making a call down to the front desk to see if you could still order anything from the kitchen. When they give you the answer you were looking for, you call down to the kitchen and order a cart full of food and sweets. Everything sounding great in your alcohol fussed mind.

You’re finishing up your order, when the bathroom door opens and out walks Jake in just a towel. You hang up and just watch him move around the room. Seeing him still damp from his shower, hair a mess from being towel dried, it made your stomach flutter. It’s not like you two hadn’t been intimate. You were grown adults with needs. But seeing him look so relaxed around you, so fit. It did something to a girl.

You stand up from the couch across the room and move towards him as his fixes his shirt to pull over his head. As he’s getting ready to pull it on, you pull it from his hands, causing him to look at you. One look from you and he already knows what’s going through your mind. He turns and gathers you in his arms as you throw yours around his neck and pull him in for a deep kiss. His clothes being forgotten and yours soon falling to the floor, before you both fall into bed.

The perfect ending to the perfect day.

The frigid winter air nips at Mikasa’s skin, but she can’t really find herself to care. If anything, the cool air feels nice. The last bar they had been in was far too small for her tastes and definitely too crowded. The drinks had been cheap though, so they stuck it out.

The world is a little bit blurred but across the street she sees a sign lighting up the street: Trost Coffee Spot.

“Sash!” she says loudly, stopping dead in her tracks and extending her left arm to stop the other girl from walking past her.

“Ahh! What-” the other girl runs directly into her arm, almost falling over but grabbing Mikasa’s shoulder to steady herself. “What?” she says again.

Mikasa points across the street. “Coffee.”

Sasha looks at the small coffee shop, to Mikasa, and back to the coffee shop. This continues for a minute while she tried to process what Mikasa wants. And than, “OH! You wanna g-get coffee?”

“Yes!” Mikasa says, a little to loudly. A man walking past them scowls. “Come on!” Mikasa grabs Sasha’s hand and pulls her across the street, and they both stumble over the curb.

When warmth floods over Mikasa as she enters the shop, she finally realizes how cold she had been. It felt nice.

The shop is definitely older and in need of a makeover, with its vibrant yellows making Mikasa’s eyes hurt a little bit. She and Sasha make their way to the counter and Mikasa suddenly realizes how drunk she is. She can’t be drunk in a coffee shop, can she?

Although if it’s open this late, they must see plenty of drunk college students.

Sasha stops at the counter, her eyes squinting as she scans the menu. “Mm, hot chocolate with whipped cream? Sign me the fuck up.”

The door behind the counter opens and a boy with a man bun steps out. Hello, Mikasa thinks, staring at his arms. So much muscle.

He stops at the register, looking both girls up and down. Mikasa knows it’s definitely not in a flirtatious way and more of a why are these drunk girls in my shop, but she still feels like she could get his number if she tried hard enough. He was really cute. And his eyes were a shocking green. Who had eyes like that?

“Welcome to Trost Coffee Spot,” he says, his voice monotone, “What can I get for you tonight?”

“I want a large hot chocolate with all of the whipped cream you have,” Sasha states, slamming her fist on the counter. “I will pay however much you want for the whipped cream,” she adds to let him know she’s serious.

He doesn’t look amused at all, or if he is, he doesn’t let it show. “And for you?” he asks, eyes landing on Mikasa.

“Uh,” Mikasa stares up at the menu, mouth hanging open. “Is the mint mocha latte any good?”

The boy nods, “‘S my favorite.”

“Oh, well I wanna do that.”

“Size?”

“Medium?” Coffee shops never seem to have consistent sizes, but he doesn’t question her, and instead punches her order in on the register.

“That’ll be $8.52.”

Sasha hands him her card and he swipes it. A little ding says it’s successful and he points to the screen to have her sign. She doesn’t actually sign, instead drawing a little heart and a dick. She giggles to herself and says, “Mikasa, look!”

“Hey, Armin!” Mikasa watches the boy turn to talk to the blonde standing in the kitchen. “Large hot chocolate, quadruple whip, and a medium mint mocha latte.”

“On it!” the blonde boy, Armin, calls back. Mikasa hears machines in the back start whirring and watches the brunette as he leans against the counter, messing around on his phone.

A few minutes pass and Armin places both drinks in the window and loudly dings the bell sitting there.

“Arm, I’m literally standing right here,” he says, brows furrowed. He grabs both drinks and hands them to the girls. “Straws and tops are over there,” he says before turning back to his blonde friend.

“Um,” Sasha stares at her cup, disappointment crossing her face, “Is this really all the whipped cream you have?”

“Yes,” the brunette answers without skipping a beat.

The rest of the weekend passes slowly, and before Mikasa knows it, Monday morning has rolled around. She can hear the blow dryer from the bathroom and glances at the clock on her bedside table. It’s only 9:30. Her first class doesn’t start until noon today, but she rolls out of bed, stretching her arms above her head and yawning. Might as well get ready.

She slips back into her usual routine. Getting dressed, knocking on the bathroom door and telling Sasha to hurry up, waiting for Sasha to actually hurry up, take over the bathroom and finish her morning routine, eat breakfast. Sasha makes them omelettes that morning, and Mikasa couldn’t be more grateful for her friend’s cooking skills.

“What’s your first class?” Sasha asks with a mouth full of food. Most people wouldn’t be able to understand her, but this was Sasha’s natural state and Mikasa was all too used to it.

“Intro to genetics. It’s my last gen ed, so I’m not really looking forward to it.”

“Ew, that sucks. Kinda surprised you still have a gen ed to take, you’re so organized.”

Mikasa shrugs. “I knew I had to take it but I’ve been so caught up with finishing my pre law classes, it slipped through.”

Mikasa slips into a seat somewhere towards the middle of classroom, letting her backpack rest against the chair’s leg. She pulled out a notebook and a few pens, arranging her desk. College desks had always been a little smaller than she liked, but considering she survived to her final semester, she must’ve managed somehow.

One of her pens drops to the floor, but when she reaches to pick it up, another hand has already beat her to it. Glancing up to the owner of the hand is shocking green eyes, and Mikasa’s mouth opens as the boy hands her the pen. “You’re the barista from the coffee shop.”

“And you’re the drunk girl from the coffee shop,” he replies. He seems much less monotone than the other night, a small smirk even playing on his lips. His hair is pulled back into the same style as before, and up close Mikasa can see specks of yellow in his eyes.

“I wasn’t that drunk,” she says pointedly, setting the pen back on the desk, closer to the notebook this time so it wouldn’t fall.

“Nah, you were pretty drunk,” he smiles, “Anyways, I’m Er-”

The door to the classroom swings open, and a taller man than Mikasa assumes is the professor tells everyone to be quiet. She sighs, leaning back into her seat. When the professor turns away, the green eyed boy slips her a small piece of paper.

Eren Jaeger.

His number was written below his name.

She sneaks a peek at him and he winks.

The class dragged on, and afterwards the boy -- Eren -- was out of there too quickly for her to say anything. She lags behind the rest of the class, entering his number into her phone and saving him under Barista Boy.

Dell's XPS 17 Proves Big-Screen Laptops Are Back, and They're Awesome

A few years back, a lot of major laptop makers began quietly paring down the number of 17-inch laptops they made (aside from monstrously large gaming rigs), with Apple and Dell dropping the 17-inch MacBook Pro and XPS 17 respectively. However, thanks to improvements like smaller bezels and improved energy efficiency, thin and light laptops with plus-sized screens and big performance are making a comeback.

After Apple re-envisioned its big-format laptop as the 16-inch MacBook Pro in 2019, Dell made a similar move by bringing back the XPS 17 this year. While the circumstances are different this time around (especially considering 2020 is a tire fire of a year), the revival of Dell’s flagship 17-inch laptop couldn’t have come at a better time. Big-screen laptops are back, baby, and they’re even better than before.

For the big reintroduction of the XPS 17, Dell didn’t deviate too much from the classic XPS design. The XPS 17 has a tapered wedge-shaped body with a silver aluminum lid, a big carbon fiber deck in the middle, and another aluminum tub on bottom. Despite its overall size (14.74 x 9.76 x 0.77 inches) and weight (5.53 pounds), the XPS 17 still manages to feel quite sleek and surprisingly portable—until you stack an XPS 15 on top and see how big the difference really is. In some ways, the size and design of the XPS 17 feels like a mirage, because when you open it up, you can’t help but appreciate how much display you get from a system that seems smaller than it is, especially when you consider the last time we saw the XPS 17 was back in 2012, when it weighed more than eight pounds instead of five.

Along its sides, the XPS 17 comes with an ample assortment of ports, including four USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 (all support charging, too), a headphone jack, and a full-size SD card reader. The only ports you might be missing are HDMI and USB-A, though Dell has that covered too with an included dongle.

Inside, Dell maximizes the XPS 17's display (which comes in a multitude of options, from a 1900 x 1200 non-touch panel to a 4K UHD+ screen), with razor-thin bezels. Dell’s super tiny webcam and IR camera module, which sits above the screen, are exactly where you want them. The built-in IR camera offers support for Windows Hello face login, while the 720p HD webcam is meant to handle all your video-calling needs, though I must say that the XPS 17's webcam image quality and resolution aren’t quite as high as I’d like.

Below on its deck, Dell flanks the keyboard with large stereo speakers that feature a 2.5-watt woofer and 1.5-watt tweeter on each side capable of delivering rich, room-filling sound. And as for the keyboard itself, Dell wisely hasn’t messed with the feel of the XPS 17's keys, which are crisp and bouncy. I’m not gonna call them perfect, but the XPS 17's keyboard is pretty much my platonic ideal of how keys on a laptop should feel. And finally, there’s that huge 6 x 3.5-inch matte touchpad, which leaves just enough room for your wrists on either side while providing accurate gesture recognition and more mousing room than most people probably need.

The one potential oddity about the XPS 17's deck is Dell’s decision not to include a dedicated numpad like you sometimes see on 17-inch gaming systems. Some might bemoan that call, but on a well-rounded system like this, I think sacrificing the numpad for bigger speakers and an overall cleaner design was ultimately the right choice.

And then there’s that screen. Our review unit features the upgraded 4K 3840 x 2400 touchscreen, and I just can’t get enough. It puts out over 450 nits of brightness and has some of the richest and most vivid colors you can get from a laptop LCD panel today. If you’re intending to buy an XPS 17 to edit photos or videos, I would highly recommend upgrading to the 4K screen instead of the base FHD+ panel. Furthermore, with its 16:10 aspect ratio, the XPS 17 also provides a bit more vertical screen real estate, which is exactly what you want from a big all-purpose laptop.

The XPS 17 ain’t no slouch when it comes to performance, either. The base config comes with a 10th-gen Intel Core i5-10300H CPU, but our more expensive review unit came upgraded with a Core i7-10875H CPU, and it absolutely flies. In our CPU rendering test in Blender, the XPS 17 took almost four minutes less to render the same image (4:40) as MSI’s Creator 15 (8:33), despite the smaller Creator 15 having the same CPU.

And when it comes to graphics performance, it’s a similar story, with the XPS 17 (6:26) beating the MSI Creator 15 (8:36) by more than two minutes in our Blender GPU rendering test, once again with both systems featuring an RTX 2060 GPU. This kind of performance makes the XPS 17 a great choice for content creators, and while it’s not intended to be a competitive gaming machine, the XPS 17 is able to pump out more than 80 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p with all the graphics bells and whistles turned on, so it’s not a bad fragging machine either. Thermal headroom also seems quite respectable, because while the XPS 17 will throttle itself a bit when maxed out, I didn’t notice any major lag or dips in performance during more normal loads.

Even the XPS 17's battery life is pretty solid for a system this big, with it lasting just shy of 9 hours (8:58) on our video rundown test, nearly two hours longer than the MSI Creator 15 and an hour longer than HP’s ZBook Create G7.

After using the XPS 17 for several weeks, I only really have one complaint: its price. Because even though it starts at just $1,350 for a 17-inch FHD+ screen, Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and integrated graphics, when you start upgrading components, the cost balloons quite quickly. So in comparison, our review unit, which features a 4K touchscreen, Core i7 10875H CPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, and RTX 2060 GPU, costs more than double the price at around $2,750. And annoyingly, if you want to cut back on a few components like RAM or storage to save money, currently the cheapest model with an RTX 2060 card starts at $2,450. Thankfully, if you’re less concerned with graphics, you can split the difference for a system with a GTX 1650 Ti GPU, which starts at around $1,800, and if you’re looking for the best balance between price and performance, that’s where I’d start.

But for me the biggest takeaway about the XPS 17 is the way it fits into 2020. While a lot of people wait for the world to get back to normal, I feel like it’s also important to think about what normal even means. Right now there are millions of people who have to work or learn from home, and even when things start opening up again, a lot of people won’t be returning to the same buildings or positions they were in before. This makes it even more important to consider what you need from a personal computer.

For years, 15-inch systems have been the most popular laptop size, as they generally offered the best balance between price, power, and portability. However, if you’re the kind of person who is only going to travel with their laptop a handful of times every year (or less considering the ongoing pandemic), a bigger system like the XPS 17 suddenly becomes a very intriguing option. Not only does its bigger screen translate into more productivity (or better movie-watching) when you’re stuck at home, you also get more ports and a wider range of upgradable components.

Meanwhile, the XPS 17 doesn’t suffer from being tied to a desk or table like a normal desktop or all-in-one. And all of this comes in a package that’s not that much larger (or much more expensive) than an XPS 15. (Though you will want to make sure you have something to carry it in, because the XPS 17 definitely doesn’t fit in my normal messenger bag.) So in a strange way, 2020 was sort of the perfect time for Dell to bring back the XPS 17. You get a bigger, more powerful system from one of the best laptop lines on the market, but in a body that’s way less of a burden than its predecessors from the not-too-distant past. So even if a 17-inch laptop might not be in your immediate future, the XPS 17 has demonstrated why they’re making a comeback, and it’s done so with power and style.

Sebastian always loved music. He enjoyed learning to play instruments from the very first time he had heard his mother play the piano. As he grew older Sebastian also found his voice and affinity for dance. This was his hobby. Music and dance were his outlets for his teenage pent up frustration especially when he discovered his attraction to men.

The family appeared very idealistic from the outside but, behind closed doors, not everything was as perfect as it seemed. The only reason Mr Smythe allowed his son to attend these musical classes was because there was no escaping Sebastian’s talent in front of his colleges and partners he wanted to impress.

Sebastian was born in Paris, France to a French mother, Victoria Smythe, a snobby socialite, and Andrew Smythe, a corporate lawyer from Hartford, CT. Baxter, Sebastian’s twin brother, is younger by 9 minutes but Seb quickly took on the role of big brother. There is no love lost between the parents and the kids but Seb tried his best to protect Bax from bullies in school and help him through his anxiety disorder.

The Smythe’s lived all over the world as Andrew represented all kinds of business and financial clients though most of their time was spent either in France or the USA. When outside of the USA the boys attended Cobis Schools where they were able to follow a curriculum in English.

It had always seemed to surprise Sebastian’s teachers when he did so well in school. One of the only things Sebastian was glad to have inherited from his father was his determination and uncanny recall abilities.

At first, his attraction to men had terrified Sebastian, and when he spoke to his father about it, well, that didn’t go down well at all. Luckily he had Baxter by his side who supported him but Seb was still hurt by his father’s dismissal of his feelings. That was when Sebastian became the man he is today with his open sexuality and fluidity. This was the start of the partying and drinking and sex. At first, it was to throw it in his father’s face, but it soon became escapism. He hasn’t looked back since.

When Sebastian got the call about Baxter being in a car accident he was torn, he wanted to go back to France to be with his brother and help him through what promised to be a long and painful recovery, but he also wanted to stay at Joie. Joie had become Sebastian’s sanctuary of sorts, a place away from his father, even if he was stuck doing his pre-law degree, here he could do what he wanted and block out the bad memories with drink and dick.

After a heart wrenching phone call from Bax, Seb was on the next flight back and worked with the head of the department to be able to finish his bachelor’s on time by completing extra papers and online exams. Seb was able to graduate with a 3.9 GPA in the spring of 2020.

Now that Baxter is doing better and seeming more like himself, Sebastian has decided to be selfish and give a giant fuck you to their parents by going back to Joie and starting a degree in Dance and Performing Arts. He’s hoping to graduate in less than 4 years because he’s already finished all the gen ed classes Joie requires for undergrads.

its weird how like my fave genre of games could be vaguely categorized as ‘nurturing things’ yet i fuckin hated every single thing of that kind that was pushed on me as a child

like hell yes i love pet games and games where you get customization and a sense of progress on building your character, and like even i like ‘parent games’ when they’re that sort of thing instead of just weird shoddy gross baby diaper changing bullshit. Like wtf who on earth even wants a game about raising a kid where you don’t get to see them grow up and graduate high school and make you proud in one of 63 careers?? seriously i am still so salty that this is such an underutilzed genre and i still have to play creepy anime fanservice dos games from the 90s cos thats ALL I HAVE. Why u showing my perfect sweet videogame child in creepy fanservice costumes I JUST WANT TO SUPPORT HER ACADEMIC LIFE

even though i LOVE that stuff i fuckin hate all that cliche ‘girl toy’ bullshit I love character customization but I hate it when its framed as ~lol girls just inherantly love fashion oo catty girl time~ and you only have this one stupid sexist creepy giant boobs doll and no customization except costumes and the only costume options are either sexualized or really stereotypically ‘girly’ and also you have to be rich as fuck to buy all these stupidly overpriced individual outfit packs and then you cant even DO anything with your barbie! at least in a videogame you can have the novelty of replaying the same cool fantasy adventure with your different characters, and like.. it has actual substance BEYOND just the customization! And I mean you can see your customization in action in a 3D environment and having a Story and Cool Powers and a voice and animations and all that jazz! And interacting with canon characters without having to buy all those separately too, and then do terrible impressions of the voiceacting from the show on your own... cos man that’s what i used to actually do with any ‘girl toys’ i was given, i saw absolutely ZERO appeal in having fifty ordinary houses where you can do nothing but sit barbie on a damn chair and gossip about husbands or whatever. Like fuck that’s already lazy and awful cos you’re telling the kid to make up their own reasons to find any enjoyment from the damn toy, but at least cliche ‘boy toys’ got like... a story template. And one that;s actually interesting and involves fighting n shit, and their accessories actually GIVE THE TOY NEW FEATURES but yeah like even making up a whole new story about barbie being a superhero got boring quick, cos she wasn’t remotely relateable or interesting. Like I’m glad that nowadays they do more with the character but even if they’ve fixed some of the predjudiced shit she’;s still.. not interesting?? just gone from cliche fashion boring to absolutely personalityless ‘good role model’ with no defining traits whatsoever. So I used to just destroy barbies or make her the villain in everything, and had a big box of naked barbies with missing legs and stuff while i gave all their accessories to all the pokemon and digimon. Still really pissed at how few of the outfits would fit on Impmon! Seriously it sucks that also all the good ‘boy toys’ were really stereotypically macho in one way or another so i was barely ever allowed to have them and i felt like they hated me even when i did get to play with them. And the only tv shows at the time that I liked that weren’t ‘for girls’ or ‘for boys’ were pokemon and digimon, which were still kinda treated as ‘for boys’ but didn’t even get the ‘boys style’ of merchandise. like barely ever poseable dolls that i could use in more creative play, they were just like collectables you put on the mantlepiece. I WOULD HAVE KILLED FOR CYNTHIA NENDOROID BACK THEN!!! i used to break all my damn digimon trying to fit them into lil outfits or throw them around doing battles, and then i made myself hella sad. I’m sad I don’t still have that super broken but extremely loved patamon transformer doll, that thing was THE BEST! like man why did they stop doing those after the first season?? actually digivolving your digimon was the best damn idea! did they get sued by transformers or something...??? and I mean GEEZ its not like I didn’t like cute stuff or hugging stuff or being nurturing or friendly or whatever people claim is the ‘wholesome value’ that female stereotypes teach kids. but man all that shit just ruined the stuff i loved! its so alienating! and why is it always super low quality and limited?? fuckin Baby Alive Really Pees And Poops,And Does Nothing Else Ever And Has No Personality. yeah girls you sure wanna see only the bad sides of nurturing and be told over and over that your life is gonna be nothing but this as soon as you inevitably start wanting to marry boys, which is totally gonna happen according to every damn adult, and will feel like a death sentence to any kid with any other sexuality. like I fuckin got my Official Digimon Tamagotchi and it was like the whole world opened up to me, like wow Pets Can Actually Do Things Other Than Shit. Everyone, hey welcome to the wine, show we're off to a fantastic start. Today, we've got a lot of great topics for you. We just finished filming scrapyard wars. Oh, yes, AMD's prices are rising, Intel's prices are getting it slashed, it turns out, competition works, doesn't it what else we got going on? There'S some Google's getting sued for like a whole ton of money and a whole ton of people are gonna, be getting like 750 pounds or 925 u.s. dollars each. What really? Oh yeah! It'S it's huge, we'll talk about that later, also jiu-jitsu into Microsoft. Dual screen devices they recently had a product launch or not product launch yeah, an announcement ignite and there's some actually genuinely pretty interesting devices. Commandeth there's some really cool. Looking stuff, Microsoft has been a fun company for a while. First, let's look at the intro whoa Wow. So good Wow, amazing, graphics, [, Music, ], not that big Wow, okay, I'd be lying. If I said, there's not a little bit of salt from this season of scrapyard. Worse that do you think it's fair to say salty. This is the most dramatic we've had, and I mean drama in like a salty sense, salty drama. Ah, because that was the only time there's been aesthetic, so there was a lot of chirping because the aesthetic yeah, I guess, there's that you know what I don't think it was like genuine drama, though we'll, let you guys we'll, let you guys be the judge. I don't know you guys were kind of dicks, so were you guys? So maybe there was some genuine drunk? Why don't we jump right into our title topic to start with, just because people seem to like that for some reason s imagine why? Yes, so the source here is from Anandtech intel has slashed the pricing of their high-end h, EDT processors. That'S not to say that the pricing of the CPUs that were already on the market are going anywhere. It'S just that great post to read in much the same way that they used to do like back in the day when they kind of just released new chips that were faster just for the lulz of it, a lot of the time it seems yeah. They have come in and they're giving you kind of. You know something similar for less money or something better for the same amount of money and joie. Here it comes so here's the summary the astonishingly stupidly named core, I 9 10 9 8 exe woof. Now, that's a that's a name, it's something! I don't think it's a name because there are actually more numbers than there are letters in there. That'S a number. Are there hold on a second, we got six numbers, we got. Oh, we got seven letters never mind. It is technically more name than number or more number now than man twisted me. So we get a small base clock or we excuse me. We get no base clock boost hold on a second here. Yes, we do hold on no right. Here'S the spares! We get an all core boost of 3.8 gigahertz. We get turbo boost 2 of 4.6 and turbo boost 3 of 4 point 8, and this is a 165 watt part, but none of that's exceptional that is very similar to the 99 8 exc. We already had what is exceptional is that it is now half the price. It is 980 dollars instead of a cool 2 grand - and I remember talking about this back when Intel launched their 18 core flagship, I was like hold on a second. You guys didn't launch, like you guys, didn't launch a new generation. This is not a new like it is a new flagship. How do I explain this? You guys didn't replace. You know the previous flagship you guys just shut up. I was loud yeah. Sorry, you guys didn't replace the previous flagship you just like added a new flagship on top of it. Cuz thousand dollars was basically the Extreme Edition price for the longest time and we were like oh well. Here'S one for 2, grand and somes. Looking at this going, you guys have you guys. You clearly have an innovative you've different categories. Yeah, you just you went, took a server product. That was like super super scarce hard to make, and you made it a desktop product and you just charged way more for it. Ok, I guess that's a strategy. If you know all of a sudden AMD has thread rip renew like oh so anyway, now that AMD has and nothing against, first gen, Rison or first gen thread Ripper or any of that stuff, nothing against those chips, but they they were competitive, but they weren't a Class-Leading, except at the at the lower end where, yes, they were a class-leading, but only in certain workloads. Now second gen, then, is class-leading in many workloads and then very close in one of those, some of the ones that intel has traditionally been very dominant in so Intel for the first times. I'M trying to remember the last time because Intel's one of those companies where a lot of the way they sell product - and you can interpret this. However, you want frankly, I don't care, but a lot of the way that they sell product is not by the specs and the price, and any mature company wants to get to that point. That is, that is a comfortable position to be in where, instead of having to scrap it out, like you know, you look at. You know entry-level Android phones, instead of having to scrap it out over who has two more pixels per inch on their display and who has you know, eight more megapixels on their rear camera or whatever the case may be. You want people to buy your phone because you made it not because it's like slightly better more spec here you want that that trust yeah and that I bought this thing three times in the past. It'S worked well for me every time I'm gonna. Do it again, so a lot of intel's sales strategy is not around just like having the highest gigahertz, it's marketing, it's building, partnerships, it's building infrastructure and like logistics to actually be able to distribute chips all over the world. I mean it's all fine and good to have a great CPU, but if no one in Europe can get their hands on it at a reasonable price and that doesn't do you any good. So so it's all those more business, see corporate II, things that they've that they're well established and that they're very good at you know forecasting making sure they have enough chips. Although it's been a bit of a rough year as far as that goes for both of them, apparently, generally speaking, those are things that Intel's been very good at and they tend to be quite aloof. To you know a particular SKU that you know performs quite well and is selling quite well like even back when I was at NCIX, you know, AMD would have chips that moves really well, like. I remember the Phenom 720 black or something like that. This was an unlocked triple core. If I recall correctly, please don't quote me on that, but that thing moved like billy-o, because AMD had lots of cheap motherboard options out there. So you could get a. I mean, not amazing, but you could get a feature complete. Like a good enough motherboard for like 70 bucks, I remember like 72 73 dollars like somewhere in that range. You throw one of these triple cores on there and all of a sudden. You'Ve got something that games well enough and it's got like one more core than you were gonna have if you went Intel - and it's like a this - is this - is a pretty good time at this price point yeah yeah at that price point it was outstanding And Intel took forever to counter it because they were just like we're not gonna we're, not gonna, like trade potshots on ask you by SKU basis, we're just gonna have a stack and we're going to. You know market ourselves as a solution provider, blah blah blah, etc, etc, etc. So, the last time that I can remember them, responding this directly to a competitive threat has to be Athlon 64, I mean, and even then even then Intel went to market when AMD launched. The Athlon FX 51 okay Intel responded with an Extreme Edition chip. I think, was like a galatin core Pentium 4 with hyper threading. Like three point: four six gigahertz like furnace of a chip - and it was it - was based on their server, something something like it was. Actually kind of a similar response, but get this it was slower, it wasn't as good, but they priced it on par with AMD's, offering as if to make a statement that, like it's Intel, it's our bestest bestest thing. Therefore, you know it cost that much and people will buy it and you know what people did buy it. I remember I used to I used to spend so much time on online forums just like helping people configure systems because it was a hobby for me. You still spend oh not doing that, but you still spend a fair amount. Well, yeah, okay, specifically yeah the kind of person who hung out in what was the venn equivalent of our slash, build a PC and just waited for people to. I was sitting there waiting for people to post what they wanted to do with their system and I'd put together a recommended spec list, and then I'd get. So I would argue with people about their configurations. Cuz people would come in and they'd be like I'm gonna, buy this extreme edition, TM thing and I'm like that's dumb and they're like yeah, but I want until I like Intel like. No, no you don't like Intel Intel is not theirs, they're, not emotional. They don't reciprocate your love. They they they're out and to be clear AMD is no different. Don'T kid yourself? They don't reciprocate your love. You are a customer, that's that's the relationship here yeah, and so you should not be buying what is objectively worse for the same price and they go well. It doesn't make that much of a difference. You know it's like 5 % different in this game and 10 % different in that game. You'D never noticed, and I go. Who cares? Why would you ever knowingly get less for your money like that is offensive to me on such a such a deep level to go in and like knowingly eyes wide open be like here is more of my money. Please give me less of something worse. Thank you. This has been a tremendous transaction, but even at even at the darkest times. Okay, there's some stuff, if you were trying to evaluate based off of this, has never really been that big of a problem for CPUs but yeah. If you're trying to evaluate based off of like okay, I've had experience with their customer support or I've had its transient reliability. That'S I know, and I know that's not what you're commenting on they're all pretty darn, reliable, both AMD and Intel. Yes, it's kind of irrelevant here, I'm just saying in general. Some of those arguments can have some validity to it, but usually no, I just always used to get so mad, because Intel would do these things and they would just get away with it. I mean the number of people, so I was working PC advisor at NCI X when I'm changing. I'M changing gears a little bit here when Nvidia launched the GTX 480, which was a steaming pile of hot garbage, literally hot, maybe not literally garbage, but given how many of them probably burned themselves into a crisp yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure quite a few them ended Up in the electronic scrap heat for, like you, know, scrap gold recovery, and I - and I would just like - I would just hate that people are like no. No I'm needy force likes. People would have legitimate reasons. Like look, I'm a kuda developer, I'm like sure. Okay. Well, then, you should probably buy four GTX 480 s and cram your PCI Express slots full of GTX 480 s lot of fun. But you know people who are like yeah, I'm playing this game or that game. It always made me so mad. It was actually because of my insistence that my position is PC Advisor was a non-commissioned position, because that way I could be free to tell people whatever they actually needed to know yeah and when they asked me, are you on Commission, which many did many people asked Me if I was it's a valid question, I would always say: no, because I wasn't, I did get a monthly bonus for being the PC advisor, but it was a flat monthly bonus. I just got like $ 300 a month or something like that for monitoring that email address. What else was I gonna talk about yeah? Oh just fan, fanboys really make me mad. I remember this one time I was doing yeah I freaked out on stream, not that long ago, like it actually had close to a breakdown, because there was this giant war going on on the stream about Linux versus windows, yeah, and I just I was trying to Get it to just stop for so long and it just wouldn't stop, and then I just kind of spaz Dal ittle bit and it was like shut up. It'S whatever's proper for that situation. It'S what it they both have positives of benefits, and it was funny because not that long after I released that video people were so mad about, like the funny thing is, I would love to see the numbers for what percentage of the people who were mad about That video daily drive windows and to be clear, I know, Windows, isn't perfect. Yeah, there's problems with Microsoft's data collection, there's problems with basic functionality, not we're gonna. Do you remember how long it took them to get the Start menu working its? You know the same issues. In my opinion, it still has some issues but remember when it just actually didn't work at all yeah yeah I mean the search is so bad yeah. It is shockingly bad, like I search, is so much better than Windows. 7 holy cow. I am far from an expert programmer. Let'S, let's get that out of the way, but I am pretty sure I am pretty sure that it would be fairly straightforward for Microsoft to create some kind of demon that runs and just indexes every file name of every and like sorts it by okay. These are executables, these are probably the most important ones. These are batch files. These are probably less important and just searches against that. It would be your instantaneous and if you can't do it, and so even when it does turn up the right result, you'll type, something in it for seconds later it comes up. The result. You'Ve got your. It comes up with some like stupid result and you're about to click the right thing and it like it moves and you clicked the wrong thing. You'Re like what are you actually doing? I had to know very recently on my work PC, which is the only computer. I work on that is running. What is 10? I even the apt Windows 10 off my laptop, which now it doesn't even like some of the Razr stuff, is all derped. Oh because that, but whatever I typed in Mouse yeah, because I wanted to check to fit with my mouse and it showed the actual like Mouse settings thing yeah for a second and then it disappeared entirely and just nothing was there. Yes, I deleted the word and retyped yeah Mouse and then it showed up properly and I was like okay yeah. Where did it go? Do you want to search the web for mouse yeah? No, why did it leave if I wanted to search the web for mouse? I would have opened my Chrome browser and searched the web for Mouse. It'S just probably already open because that's how like people use computers now yeah so Wow yeah, browsers, remember that now, like I remember, I used to get really annoyed with my mom because, like back in the Windows, 3.1 Windows 95 days, she didn't understand the difference between Minimize and exit, so I would always get onto the computer and it would be super chuggy because everything she had minimized, absolutely everything she was doing. I was like yo, like my program, can't run because you are using literally all the computer's memory. She'D be like. I closed it all anyway, where I was going with the fanboy thing is I remember one of the most frustrating systems I ever had to build was on this motherboard. This was like a super niche. Where is it where's the pictures on Tom's? How are we going really throwing this video all over the place, though ya know this is really annoying. It was this super niche platform socket 1207 socket F. This was my god. The ads grow up a little bit just pause right there. This is all ads Wow. All this all this all this all this and all this Oh cow - I just I just I didn't see that for a second that is actually it's almost admirable at a certain like they have they have put. They have crammed more ad in there than I would have thought possible. Yeah you congratulated for that. I guess here it is so this was that, like the stupidest motherboard ever been, visit this site right here can I can I find a picture this thing so AMD adapted their server platform, which wasn't completely dead at the time, even though their desktop was like dying, a fast death in terms Of competitiveness and was like okay, we're gonna go after Intel on core count and they built this platform called four by four. So I don't know why they called it four by four: maybe it was four PCI Express slots for cores times two sockets. I don't know anyway, you can put two quad core 2 quad core processors in it. If I recall correctly - and I remember - building this system and just like it driving me absolutely nuts, because the thing was so oversized - it's 24 pin like mid yeah. The design of the board is terrible because I'm sure they rushed this thing because no one like they knew that's wrong, like a few hundred people were gonna buy it like nobody was gonna buy this stupid thing. The performance was terrible. The power consumption was terrible and I was just like looking at it going why? Why would anybody buy this and it was? It was like not. It was not a great board because what tends to happen at the very high end, you can buy a six seven. Eight hundred dollar motherboard and get a very, very poor experience, because the thing is the BIOS development that goes into a board is kind of not quite but kind of the same, regardless of whether you sell 500 of them, five thousand 50 thousand five hundred thousand of Them, and so it's like okay - well, where do we sink the the little bit of extra polish into the one? That'S going to turn into five hundred annoyed customers on the asus forum or the one? That'S gonna turn into five hundred thousand annoyed customers on the issues forum da, like it's usually better, to buy the mainstream thing than the super halo niche things. From my experience, we've had experience yeah I was just gonna say. We'Ve had experiences had experience with that many times. Actually. Here we go especially back in the house. I remember that quite a few times, AMD's quad FX, technically quad core. Oh wait no hold on each physical nevermind. It was. It was dual course and then two sockets. So that you had a total of four course, of course, you're dealing with Numa nodes and like let's go ahead and have a look at what the performance looked like compared to here's gaming performance. So this was a gaming machine. I was building like it's just so I'd have people say: well, it's not that far behind Conroe, it's like, so what it is behind and it's a terrible value. Home Sweet Home Part 2. So someone on Wattpad requests a part 2 so here it is. Sorry if it sucks. And I’m not good at writing birth scenes so I did the best I could with it.

(Y/N)’s Perspective

I have been home for about and year and a half now, but for about eight and a half of those months I’ve been pregnant. When I found out I was pregnant, I was ecstatic and decided to do something a little special for it. I had went on line and got special t-shirts made for Mia and Jensen. Mia’s shirt said “I’m gonna be a big sister” and Jensen’s said “I’m gonna be a dad again.” I decided to have Jared give them the shirts so they wouldn’t figure it out so easily. Jared and I decided to blindfold them and put the shirts on them. Once the shirts were on, I put my own shirt on that says “Baby on Board.” I stood in between them then I had Jared take a picture. Once the picture was taken I told Jensen to take his blindfold off. Once he realized what my shirt said, he was overwhelmed with joy. He picked me up and spun me around as tears of joy fell down both of our faces. After we explained to Mia what was happening she was excited too. Now here we are almost 9 months later. I was sitting on the couch watching Supernatural because I’m amazing husband, who was cooking my lunch, was in it. Meanwhile Mia was at Jared’s I was watching the episode where Dean was killed by Metatron. I was crying when Jensen walked in the living room.

Jensen’s Perspective

I had finished making lunch for (Y/N) when I walk into the living room to see her crying. I immediately rushed over and set the food down on the coffee table. “(Y/N), what’s wrong?” I asked as I kneel down in front of her. She lifts her head,and with tear filled eyes points to something behind. I turn around to see the scene where Dean died and Sammy and is now holding him while crying, on the TV. I let out a small chuckle as I shake my head at my wife. “That’s what you’re crying about?” I ask softly. She nods her head. “It looks so real.” She says softly. I chuckle. “If it looks so real then why do you watch it?” I asked, taking her hands in mine. “Because I’m behind. I need to finish it,” she says in all seriousness. I chuckle. I get up from my knees and sit next to her on the couch. I wrap my arms around her and ask, “Do you want me to watch it with you?” She nods and says softly, “Yes please.” I pull her closer to me as we start watching Supernatural together. As we are watching it, I pull out my phone and take a picture of us. She is watching the TV so she doesn’t notice. I post the picture on Instagram and caption it with “When my wife is my biggest fan.” I then put my phone away and go back to watching the show, even though I know what happens. Half way through an episode I fall asleep but is woken up when I get frantic taps on my shoulder. “What’s wrong? Not liking what’s happening?” I asked with a chuckle as my eyes are still closed. “No, um it’s not that. Jensen, I’m pretty sure my water just broke,” she says as her breathing becomes rapid. My eyes fly open and then I’m flying off the couch to go get the bag we plan to take to the hospital. I go to the closet to get it then come back into the living room where she was. I rush over to her. “Alright sweetheart, let’s get you to the hospital,” I say helping her off the couch. Once we were in the car I called Jared and told him to meet us at the hospital. Once we got to the hospital the nurses and doctors immediately rolled us back to to room. Once we got there they started prepping (Y/N) and the whole time I had stood by her side, giving her words of comfort and encouragement.

(Y/N) ’s Perspective

Once the doctors prepped me, I was ready to have this baby. After hours of screaming and pushing, our son was born,but what we didn’t know was that there was twins. Jensen and I decided once I found out I was pregnant that we wait till the birth to find out. Since we didn’t want to know, we weren’t able to know there was twins. After another few hours of birth, our baby girl was born. Even though I was in immense amount of pain, I was extremely happy. I had Jensen by my side the entire time and now we have a little boy and another girl. Jensen and I were holding the twins when Jensen’s parents, my parents, Jared and Gen walked in, and right behind them was Mia, who was extremely happy. Once in the room she rushed over and hopped on the bed. You could see the excitement in her eyes and all over her face. “They are so small mommy,” she said as she moved closer to sit next to me. Jensen and I laugh. “You know that you were once this small,” I say. Her face lights up. “Was I really mommy?” She asked with curiosity. I smile at her as I nod. “I tell you what, as soon as we get home I’ll showyou a baby picture of you. Sound good?” I suggest. She nods her head then goes back to looking at the twins. “What are you gonna name them?” Jensen’s mom asked. “We thought about that and we have come to a conclusion. We would like to introduce to you Joy Marie Ackles and Liam James Ackles.” I say, while smiling up at Jensen. He then returns a smile back. “Those are great names guys,” Jared says as he pats a hand on Jensen’s shoulder. He looks up at Jared. “Thanks man. I appreciate it,” he says looking at Jared then back down to Liam, who he was holding. I smile as I watch this scene unfold, but I smile because I know Jensen is excited to have a boy. I can see it in his eyes. I am broke from my thoughts as the doctor walks in. “Hello Mrs. Ackles how are you and the babies doing?” He asked. “We are fine. Thank you for everything.” I say while smiling at him. He smiles back. “That’s great to hear. I just wanted to let you know that you should be out of here by either tomorrow or the day after.” He says. “Thanks doc.” Jensen says. Jensen then looks back at me and smiles. He then leans in a kisses my forehead. “You did a great job sweetheart,” he says, then looks back down at the twins. “Thanks. And thank you for being here with me,” I say as I kiss his cheek. “Alright enough with the chickflick moments, can I hold one of my new grandchildren?” Jensen’s dad says, breaking the moment. The whole room burst into laughter. “Someone is a fan of the show I take it?” I ask while trying to calm my self down from laughing. “Of course I am. My son is in it, why wouldn’t I?” He says as he walks over closer to the bed. He sits down on the edge of the bed next to Mia. He leans in close to look at Joy. “She’s beautiful,” he says softly as tears start to come to his eyes. “You want to hold her?” I ask. He simply nods as he still stares at her. I gently place Joy in his arms. “Hi beautiful,” he says to her as he stands up and walks toward Jensen’s mom. “Mommy, can I hold her next?” Mia asked as she moved closer to me. “Of course sweetheart.” I say as I hug her. Looking around the room I watched as Jared and Jensen talked as he was holding Liam. Gen and my mom were talking about something and Jensen’s parents and my dad were all watching as Joy slept in Jensen’s dad’s arms. And Mia was snuggled up next to me. Watching all this around me made me realize that I didn’t need to be at our house to be home. Everyone in this hospital room was my home. My home sweet home.
