#so no hate against people who write the trope—i just can’t personally read it

#i don’t think i can overstate how much i hate the ‘poor reggie forced into bad things :(‘ take lol#i mean. i get that it’s probably the only way people who don’t like dealing w complexity can make sense of this ship#which like. fair i guess. but they’re also often the loudest in the fandom and that’s when i get annoyed
literally taking words out of my own mouth. and yknow, i love jegulus actually, but what i love is the opposite dynamic that you could never get with prongsfoot, the "running into each other in the battlefield from opposite sides" kind of drama and the way they really force each other to get out of their comfort zone and confront their biases. and i swear i can't read 90% of todays jegulus fics for this exact reason it drives me insaneeeee
(also the best kind of jegulus (and the only right kind) is the one where both of them would still choose sirius over each other)
(also how are your tags always better than the actual post asfjk)
i’ve read exactly two jegulus fics i like so far. i don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that both of them have sirius as a central character who’s in the know about the relationship since the beginning lol (it’s this and this) sadly, i don’t think either of those are angsty enough for ur tastes :p
also gosh yes!! i think, of all we know about them, one thing both of them would be agreed on is that sirius is no. 1. like even in a war setting for example, where they’re both on different sides, i can see them meeting clandestinely just to come to the mutual conclusion that no matter what happens, sirius does not get hurt. but also, the possible flip side of that is so much angst. jealousy, bitterness, possessiveness—both of them want sirius’ attention in different ways and there’s resentment between them for the longest time because of it. reg because he thinks james stole his brother and james because he thinks reg could’ve done more to protect him/doesn’t like how his actions hurt sirius.
i think james’ black and white morality would also play a big role here. in his mind, regulus should’ve chose sirius above everything else. his actions of siding with his family would read as betrayal to james who has no patience for that or anything that hurts sirius. he doesn’t care for the complexities and nuances that reg’s life is probably made of.
on the other hand, i think regulus would also be at least a little aware of that fact? and he’d hate the fact that james has it so easy. not just in terms of obvious privilege (which the blacks do too) but also like, how easy it is for him to be brave and moral and good when regulus has to claw his way out to achieve some semblance of balance in his life. james’ judgement seems not just hypocritical but also unfounded for him, because james has never had to fight against the kind of pressures he had. and he knows, deep down, where j is coming from too which makes him even more angry at the whole situation.
i can see both of them hiding this animosity from sirius for the longest time, because they know he wouldn’t like it, at all. he puts up this front that he doesn’t care about his family but he does, and james doesn’t wanna make that anxiety worse. no one can be blind to how close sirius is to james, def not regulus, so he puts up the bare minimum effort into making sure he doesn’t show more hostility than required. also,,,,i think both of them might have this latent fear that if they force sirius to choose, they might be the ones left behind? like,,i don’t think sirius will actually do that but it’s an irrational anxiety that they do not wanna materialise under any circumstance so they try their best to make sure it never happens.
and sirius would be the impetus of change for both of them, in my mind. they’re a package deal on both ends so they have to learn to, like u said, confront their biases. i genuinely think sirius is central to a jegulus arc so seeing him cut out or turned into the villain or used only as a wolfstar puppet just really, really enrages me lol

So the ‘straight with one exception’ shit that was so prevalent with straight women in fandom a few years ago. Do they find it a romantic notion? I’m bisexual so growing up in the 90s and 2000s most the queer content I could find was fan made. And don’t get me wrong I am grateful for the fandom moms of old for making queer content as a young guy in the 90s figuring myself out there was a lot of fear and self loathing but I always had fandom to make myself feel more normal. But yeah that straight with an exception thing, always really ruined my fic experiences a bit. But I’ve actually started reading older fic because it avoids a lot of the shit I find annoying about modern fics. Can’t escape this trope though it’s like negative nostalgia lol. I know you’re queer but I want to get why straight women love this trope so much. Is a bisexual man so unattractive?
--
Anon...
I hate to break it to you, but when I started interviewing slash writers from the 70s, I heard more than one story that was like "And then I had all these weird feelings for my best friend I was writing with..."
Decades on, these women may have picked some other word than 'straight', but plenty of them did experience You're My One Exception.
Even the horny and self-aware people often find One Exception stories hot, whether it's a villain only being nice to one person or someone who has only experienced attraction one time or someone who is attracted despite their usual orientation. Like 90% of het romance novels include some barf-worthy "It's never been like this before!!!!" observation when they finally get together as though love is more special when you can put down every past partner. People just really, really, really like this trope in all its forms.
The fact that you would think this is a sign of a straight or female writer shows that you are amazingly clueless.
--
That said, yeah, I too found the ubiquity of this in 90s fic annoying. Not a huge fan of the internalized homophobia that everyone was kinking on back then either.
I don't think it's specifically about bi men being attractive or not within fandom, though there is a massive real world double standard against bi men on, for example, OK Cupid.
I think it's more about One Exception as a general trope plus a lot of people being profoundly clueless about bisexuality in the 90s even if they were allies and activists for gay causes.
That was the era of Anything That Moves precisely because the queer community wasn't very hip about bi stuff yet. (And arguably, in recent years, we've backslid, but that's another story.)
--
~Fandom moms~. Yeesh. A lot of those big authors were probably in their 20s in the 90s.

🌿ENFP 🍁Gryffindor 📜Chaotic Good 🔮Aries Sun, Scorpio Moon, Gemini Rising
SFW🌿
⭑ Harwin never ceases to make you smile. And it was this very ability that you fell in love with, long before your marriage.
⭑ Being at court wasn’t easy. The politics felt like a whirlwind of chaos and debauchery. You had wished your father would let you leave, but alas, he wanted you to marry someone with station.
⭑ Within your first days there, Rhaenerya befriended you. Her white-blonde hair caught your attention immediately. But her wit and daring truly captured your attention.
⭑ So when it was her little brother’s birthday, you and your family were invited to the celebration. And that’s where you met Harwin.
⭑ Your father was unhappy with the courtship. Harwin Strong was barely the match that he desired.
⭑ But you persisted since you couldn’t give a fuck about tradition. This was your life, and you were going to live it however you wish to.
⭑ Harwin brings you up in every conversation when you aren’t there. He absolutely fawns over you. He talks about what you wear, what you’ve made, what you said to someone etc.
⭑ And he LOVES when you wear his clothing, especially his shirts, and you wear nothing else
⭑ He is constantly proud of you, and just so happy that you’re his.
⭑ Your wedding wasn’t huge, but it ended being pretty big because Harwin has a lot of friends (during sailing, battles etc.)
⭑ And because he has a good heart, he helped the families of those whose male members died in battle. So many people love him and want the best for him. Therefore, your wedding was bigger than expected. People just showed up.
⭑ Harwin cried when he saw you walk down the aisle
⭑ He’ll randomly tilt your chin up so he can kiss your forehead
⭑ Doesn’t care who is around, he’ll dance with you, sing for you; he’s just an outgoing chap
⭑Definitely your hype man
⭑ He gives left overs to the poor and homeless
⭑ He hates the royals and thinks money should be put into housing those who live on the streets
⭑ His pet names for you are ‘Love,’ ‘Honey,’ and a variation of her name or last name; just to tease you.
⭑ He’s more of a morning person than a night owl
⭑ And he loves watching the sun rise and set.
⭑ A man cat-calling you while you’re walking with Harwin, and he calls back, “I wouldn’t say that if I were you mate. She’s got a strong right hook,”
And the guy is like ??? “Women can’t hit”
And a fire ignites in your belly and you narrow your eyes like a hawk looking at its prey. “Do you want to find out?” And the way you say it is so guttural, that even Harwin gets goosebumps.
So the cat-calling asshole goes, “sorry miss,” and sits back down.
⭑ Relationship Tropes;
  ✧ Forbidden Love
  ✧ Constant Banter
✧ He Loves Dangerous But Is Actually A Sweetheart x You Look Like A Sweetheart But Is Actually Dangerous
NSFW🔞minors dni!
⭑ Harwin would be a very passionate lover. He’d like sex to be rough and fast; ravishing you with his hands, his lips, his cock.
⭑ He’d grab fistfuls of your hair and kiss you so deeply that you think you might faint.
⭑ Harwin would love head. He’d often fantasize about ramming your throat with his cock, burying himself deep inside your mouth.
⭑ He would most definitely want to have sex everywhere. The library, outside in a field, on the beach shores, in the bath, in the castle hallways.
⭑ Imagine him roughly pushing you up against a wall and pulling your skirts up, doing everything he can to be fast so no one sees you outside. His pants dropping and cock, already stiff and hard, easing inside of you.
⭑ He’s a moaner but not an obnoxious one. His voice sounding in your ear, his pleasure racks his body.
⭑ Harwin is more than likely a dom. Liking to manhandle you and pushing you around. Not that you mind in the slightest.
⭑ He likes to kiss you after he cums in your mouth.
⭑ And his favourite flavour isn’t mead or chocolate, but the one between your legs.
⭑ He would spontaneously wrestle you to the bed, planting warm kisses on your lips, cheeks, neck, and stomach. Even then he would make you laugh, his beard tickling you.
⭑ Oh and YES HE WOULD BE REALLY GOOD AT EATING YOU OUT. Absolutely filthy he would be. Pushing his fingers inside of you, licking them, and making you do the same.
⭑ He loves slapping your ass, and sex is the only time he’s allowed to do that without repercussions
⭑ Aftercare with Harwin is usually cuddling. But if sex was messy, you push him out of bed and tell him to get you a cloth so you can clean up

STRIKER CHARACTER NOTES: COMPARE AND CONTRAST
I noticed a lot, and I mean a LOT of character differences in Striker in this newest episode (not just his voice actor!) so I decided to watch both Striker episodes back to back and write out all of the traits and notes of character that can be seen in both episodes. Let’s begin! Season One Episode Five -Originally inspired by Rattlesnake Jake from Rango -Meant to bring a strong, imposing aura -Design is meant to be a blend of Moxxie and Blitz originally, took on other characteristics to be a hybrid over time during design phase -Can be casual, polite, and charismatic -Good at listening, and highlighting what gives others ego boosts through compliments (can be used for manipulation later on) -Social, but doesn't talk that much. Seems to prefer being in the background to read and observe people and only speaks up to challenge Moxxie -Raspy, dark voice but big range. Can have a higher pitch while being casual and friendly, but gets lower in pitch and tone when he's being threatening -Not afraid to step up and show off, but knows how to balance it with skills to back it up -Athletic, but knows how to restrain himself to keep face (via always being able to keep a smile on his face and only grunting from exertion) -Enjoys attention, but doesn't enjoy his personal space being evaded (interesting considering how he confronts both Moxxie and Blitz later on in the episode) -Isn't afraid to physically assault people to obtain his personal space -Isn't afraid to call people out, even while showing off -Smart and knows how to take steps to do his job silently, but effectively -Sadistic, and enjoys playing the waiting game -Durable, can take multiple stab wounds and smile through it -Enjoys degrading and emotionally putting others down -Morally ambiguous, but great at reading people and using their own morals and thoughts against them -Hates rich people, and likes to favor himself as better then other imps by nature based on his physical strengths and attributes -Not afraid of making alliances, and respects others who show the same level of strength as him -Has the ability to recover quickly, but tends to rely on his words to fight when he can't physically -Much like actual snakes, Striker is slippery and knows when to run away when he loses the upper hand -Knows how to be respectful and polite to rich higher ups, further showing his charisma and ability to put up a front despite his internal beliefs -Is confident in his own abilities, but is fine with staying in the shadows as he waits for his next opportunity to strike (very similar to how a snake hunts in real life)
Season Two Episode Four -Good at waiting for the right opportunity (or just has good timing) -Good at stealth with his poncho -Good aim, good at avoiding shooting the wrong person/people and focuses on his target primarily -Still good at listening, but gets more openly annoyed while listening -Gets impatient, and snaps far more easily -Loves and respects wild west tropes -Doesn't enjoy attention, and possibly doesn't enjoy his own theme song -Seems to live in a old mining cave with old train tracks -Enjoys doing stunts and tricks with his horse, and seems to trust his horse fully to do the jumps needed. Possibly great at training horses -Most likely sees himself as a outlaw (which would explain a lot tbh) -Still enjoys the waiting game like in episode five -Takes time to decorate and use décor for his home, but seems to prefer a more simplistic design. Could possibly be because he can't afford that much furniture, and seems to prioritize getting décor that provides a liking to his own image -Has a train track rock wall of sorts dedicated to killing people on, as referenced by the giant ass sign that he got attached to it -Has a soft spot for old tropes and clichés, and seems to prefer to live under that aesthetic for his own pleasure -Enjoys getting things that can boost his own self image and ego, but still uses them for more practical things, like using his own statue as a coat/hat hanger -Easily annoyed and seemingly hurt by insults and negative comments on his living style -Seems to have a hatred for richer folks because they took something away from him -May feel the need to 'have' to live like he does because of his personal money issues -Still very sadistic -Doesn't seem to enjoy when others either don't react or enjoy when he's trying to be sadisitc -Doesn't seem to enjoy that he's having to work for Stella in order to get money -Seems to genuinely hate Stolas -Also seems to genuinely hate being compared to Blitz -Even when angry, he prefers to slip away instead of actually losing his temper at his captor -Becomes more like himself when he strikes a nerve with Stolas, relishing in his reactions -Recalls and obtains information from listening in on the phone call, much like he was shown doing in episode five, and uses the information against Stolas as a manipulation tactic -Can still easily flip fronts, and can still maintain a polite demeanor when interacting with higher ups -So poor he uses a flip phone (fucking rip) -Seems to be almost ashamed for following Stella's orders, going so far as to avoid eye contact with Stolas as he agrees to her -Still prefers to satisfy his own needs first though (which goes against his more efficient characterization in episode five), and is willing to follow orders but bend the rules a little just to satisfy his own sadism and ego -Even Striker is confused about the music choice, and clearly preferred the country music -Still powerful and durable, using his athleticism and the environment around him to assist in giving him a upper hand against Moxxie and Millie -Was seemingly aiming to decapitate Millie rather than pin her -Genuinely caught off guard from Moxxie appearing to enjoy being choked, and dislikes the change -Even still, Striker was successful in his goals and seemed to have actually gotten under Stolas's skin with his words with his manipulation and sadistic treatment I hope this helps to solidify what we know as a whole for Striker’s character, and bring out all of the differences that we saw! Thank you for reading <3

What draws you in when it comes to yandere content? It seems to be a real love-it or hate-it genre, so I'm curious.
I find wandered concepts interesting, but rarely can I read an entire fic about it.
Hmmm… I think it’s mostly the inevitable struggle. I’ve said before, but that’s something I really enjoy. I think I’ve enjoyed action movies because of it - it doesn’t always have to be sexual, or intimate, but just that defiance, that struggle.
In yandere it’s taken to an extreme - similar to bondage/immobility in kink. Defy and rail against it all you want, you’re not getting away. You’re at the mercy of the person in control, and more than the struggle is the acquiescence.
In kink and fiction you can control when that happens, and there’s no consequence for it either. You can give in earlier without shame, you can struggle unto your death. You can explore all the pieces in between.
In fanfic room it’s almost always going to be an alternative version of the characters when you’re writing one or more as yandere.
The reason I think it’s such a love-hate trope is because there’s definitely two different ways to approach yandere: adding it to the canon vibes of a character and seeing what situations would push them into more toxicity and madness, or discarding canon and leaping gleefully into toxicity and madness.
Light yandere can be off putting to some, and full dismissal of a character‘s characteristics in exchange for a darker story can be off putting to others. That’s not even including people who just find anything remotely possessive or protective as “problematic yandere”. So it creates an even more charged topic.
Plus, it might be something that’s best for most people as one-shots or short stories. Long form yandere stories can be emotionally exhausting because the experience of yandere is itself a strong negative emotion. Tension, fear, build up, the dub con and non con elements, it’s all heavy stuff.
It’s hard to break tension with such a story, and if you can’t break tension you can’t give your reader a chance to come up for air. But writing those breaks can be a challenge to do without them feeling disconnected or jarring, so it turns a lot of longer dark fics into marathons.
Which further draws dividing lines for people. Because unless you revel in the struggle, it can be suffocating, but giving in too fast can also feel unsatisfying.
I think it’s one of the harder things to write well, at least in long form. One shots, drabbles, musings and such are easier because you don’t have to break tension, the piece ends and that’s when you breathe.

THANK YOU. Robin and Nancy’s incompatibility aside, Robin and Steve’s soulmatism is one of the unshakable dynamics in the show and Robin Buckley would just never. I read fanfics for most ships, and the story you linked is the first r//nance story I’ve seen that doesn’t have a Steve with zero issues just giggling while his best friend in the universe gets with the person who canonically hurt him the most/he’s still in love with. R//nance usually goes hand in hand with having to ignore how significant Nancy and Steve are to each other, which reminds me of the…
The Vickie erasure. The fanon of bi Nancy while fandom totally ignores Vickie is not surprising considering there’s so much automatic hatred of canon. Robin calls Vickie the girl of her dreams! I also hoped for more Vickie in season 4, but Vickie as the embodiment of Robin’s peace at home is perfect. Rosie! That Vickie is too much of a side-character to ship with Robin is ridiculous when I’ve accidentally seen so many fics including Gareth. For real, who the fuck is Gareth.
Nancy still needing to learn how to process her emotions is why I think any Stancy endgame would be a denouement situation. The execution of the matchmaker trope was unnecessary. Three whole characters weighing in on that relationship? One of which was a stranger? Why.
maybe it’s just because i love stobin so much, but it is literally one of the best and strongest dynamics in the show, and i just can’t fathom needing characters to be in a romantic relationship so badly, that people just cast aside how important robin and steve are to each other.
and yeah, i avoid all r//nance fics, like even if they’re just a background ship. because i know that that background ship will be a throwaway line, and still manage to destroy stobin. like, you can’t just have causal r//nance in the background because by it’s very nature, it would tear the characters apart.
in canon, steve still has feelings for nancy. now you can decide if that’s just because he’s clinging to this ideal of life that he isn’t ready to let go of, or because he actually is in love with her, but to disregard their relationship entirely is dumb. like, in their first s4 scene together, nancy spots steve’s car and just instantly calms. like, whether they’re romantic or platonic, steve and nancy are really important to each other.
i honestly just cannot see nancy being queer at all, but i know that’s just my personal opinion. but the fact that people will totally erase vickie, and then get annoyed at the duffers for having minimal gay characters, or for not making r//nance canon. like, there is a bi women right there! stop ignoring her! and yeah, i think the excuse that vickie is just a side character is such bullshit, because she is spoken about a lot, we see her in multiple scenes. she’s more important than gareth, but somehow he pops up everywhere? and a lot of people who hate vickie will then ship buckingham (which i have nothing against!) but it’s like, how are you gonna pretend chrissy has more personality then vickie?
yeah, i hate matchmaking, but the duffers seem incapable of writing a romance without using it. honestly, the reason why i hated murray so much is because of that. like, some random middle aged man got two teens drunk and told them to fuck in his house, and i’m supposed to think that’s the height of romance?! ew. and yeah, i can see robin talking to steve about nancy, because they obviously talk about their loves lives to each other. and dustin is incapable of not inserting himself into steve’s life, but eddie? what does he know about the situation? it’s just so weird.
also, i actually find stancy interesting, at least, i’ve always enjoyed watching their scenes more than nancy and jonathan, but i just don’t think that nancy will be able to get enough development in time for her to end the show in a healthy relationship. though, i do kinda want stancy to be endgame just because i know how much steve antis will hate it. and i think that’s funny.
but honestly, when it comes to endgames i just don’t care. what ships the duffers decide to end on mean nothing to me. i will read whatever fanfics i want when the show ends, and who’s gonna stop me. “oh it’s not canon.” don’t care, didn’t ask.

hola chicaa! after seeing some people say 'Megumi has no development' on rddit (yeah that hell) and I disagree btw, I decided to ask you (I love reading your mental gymnastics), when a character has development according to you? because apparently people have different ideas about development or they're just Megumi-haters. Also if you want to talk about Megumi's development, my brain is ready for gymnastics lol
HOLA chico(a)!!!
“Megumi has no development”.
This is how Megumi feels about that statement:
Tumblr media
But..... I do have to be honest and confess that I used to think Megumi was an underwhelming character early on in the anime.
GASP! THE NERVE! Ok but let me explain myself...
Onto the Megumi Mental Gymnastics below the cut!
This ramble is split into 3 parts:
Reasons why I think people completely miss Megumi’s development
What the hell is character development anyways?
A look at Megumi’s character development thus far
Feel free to skip around if needed.
Ok, warm up is done. Onto the proper Mental Gymnastics.
Tumblr media
Megumi-haters, lack of self awareness, or underwhelming character by design? That is the question...
“Megumi has no development”.
I have to start by saying that I think that this kind of comment about Megumi comes back to a few things.
1. Not bonding with Megumi as a character is probably the biggest culprit here.
It’s comparable to me not being able to say much about characters like Gojo, Geto or Nanami other than surface-level details. I simply have not brain rotted enough about them or have formed an emotional attachment to the characters.
Which inevitably brings up the issue of self-insertion (which some people hate with a passion for some reason) and projection--assigning qualities to a character that are the product of your own psychological life.
2. Psychologically-speaking, we’re only able to perceive a character’s depth inasmuch as we can meet our own depth.
So I think this is an important distinction to make because even if I didn’t bond with Geto or Nanami, I can still make more or less solid assessments about their characters from re-reading the manga with a focus on their perspective.
But if I lack self-awareness, the ability to understand my motivations, personality, and growth (just to name a few facets of self awareness that can be related to a fictional character), then I can’t really see these facets in others.
It’s also important to make a distinction here between surface-level motivations (I want to drive a Mercedes Benz) and the deeper and largely unconscious motivations that drive us (I want others to see how valuable I am).
So, I imagine that people who think Megumi doesn’t have development have both missed out on it because they have not emotionally bonded with him as a character, and because they lack the self-awareness to understand how Megumi “develops” as a character.
3. Gege’s writing style is nuanced and leaves a lot up for interpretation
That’s it. No explanation needed. Let’s just say Gege doesn’t spoon feed the audience when it comes to certain matters. Rather, he gives enough information for the audience to come up with their own conclusions.
But that also means that if you are used to being spoon fed information, you might miss out on the subtext.
But more importantly...
4. What if early on in the manga Gege wanted us to think that Megumi was an underwhelming character without development?
Which is kind of how I too fell for how underwhelming he was. ESPECIALLY considering that his trope, Quiet and Aloof Deuteragonist-kun, is typically the more naturally talented character compared to the MCs lack of natural talent.
I know I am committing a cardinal sin here, but if you’ve seen Naruto, think of how Sasuke is naturally talented compared to Naruto.
Tumblr media
But beyond that, Sasuke was always perceived as a formidable opponent in battle. Even when he went against opponents that were more powerful than he was (like Orochimaru or Gaara), as an audience, you never got the sense that Sasuke was weak or underwhelming. Rather, as an audience, you were likely to think that the gap in difference in power would be closed once Sasuke got stronger.
But that’s not the case with Megumi.
Just as the trope dictates, like Sasuke, Megumi is introduced as someone who has superior power and intelligence.
Tumblr media
But what we see in the story prior to Chimera Shadow Garden is actually in direct opposition of the trope--if he is so powerful and naturally talented, then why did everybody and their Jujutsu-mom kick his ass?
We know Megumi gets pitted against opponents who are stronger than him and that because of it he has no chance of winning, but the way Megumi handles himself makes him look "boring” and “underwhelming” compared to other characters true to the trope, and even characters within JJK.
Tumblr media
So I think it’s only natural for the audience to think that Megumi is weak or boring because, compared to other characters true to the trope (not just Sasuke, but Haikyuu’s Kageyama, Dragon Ball Z’s Vegeta, etc), he truly was underwhelming. This is especially poignant if you’re familiar with how his trope is typically executed in Shonen manga (I think Chainsaw Man’s Aki is very similar to Megumi in this sense).
What the audience doesn’t know for a whole 60something chapters/23 episodes is that Megumi’s apparent lackluster abilities were actually the result of a mindset limited by his own sense of self. In other words, Gege subverted Megumi’s trope.
So when chapter 23 of the anime rolled around and exposed both what he’s capable of and his backstory, not only did it feel like a massive payoff, in retrospect it also made so much sense why he kept loosing:
Megumi plays small, self sabotages, and doesn’t know how to bring out his “best” because he’s limited by his sense of self.
And when he does bring out his “best”, Megumi isn’t your average Sasuke, Kageyama or Vegeta. Megumi is a freak.
Tumblr media
I was am hooked.
This is not to mention that his backstory also explains why Megumi is the way he is and thinks the way he is. I went on a crazy limb elaborating on how his childhood might have shaped his thinking in a previous ask.
So if you’ve been watching Megumi closely, once you see what he’s capable of, not to mention that it looks like he himself doesn’t know what he’s capable of, and then you notice that the King of Curses and The Strongest acknowledge him...
Well... It’s kind of hard not to see that Megumi is over-powered and doesn’t even realize it.
This speculation should also tell you that it is possible that Megumi’s character arc is likely going to be about how he gets out of his own way and develops an overwhelming sense of self so that he can bring out said overwhelming power.
Which basically means that he must... you know... develop.
Character development defined
Ok, according to Masterclass,
In literature, character development is the craft of giving a character a personality, depth, and motivations that propel them through a story. Character development is also defined as how a character evolves throughout the course of a story.
Because JJK is Psychological in nature, I am going to go ahead and also add that character development includes the evolution of their sense of self and mindset (both of which are intricately entangled).
This is especially poignant for a story like JJK where the strongest characters have an overwhelming sense of self.
Tumblr media
In other words, the strongest characters know themselves so well that they can transcend and redefine their own mindset.
I’m still looking for a better way to explain this because it is a complex subject, so bear with me in the meantime.
The thing is that a character doen’t just wake up one morning and realize that it went from point A (lack of self knowledge) to point B (overwhelming sense of self).
Rather, just like in real life, fictional characters experience conflict in their life that helps them grow and develop.
And it is this process of navigating the conflict in their life that shapes the character’s thinking. More importantly, just like it happens to you and me in the real world, this process of self-development is also a process in which a character gets to know themselves and their own thinking, as well as becoming aware of their thinking about their thinking.
This got meta real quick...
The point is that part of development, Megumi’s development to be more specific, involves his ability to think critically about his sense of self--the thoughts he has about the thoughts he has about himself and what his sense of self dictates he can accomplish.
Psychology.
IS ANY OF THIS MAKING ANY SENSE AT ALL?!!!!
Again, remember, I can only perceive a character’s depth inasmuch as I can perceive it in myself.
So aaaaaaall this to say that anyone who thinks Megumi doesn’t have development has probably not been reading the manga focused on him, and/or simply does not have the psychological capacity to see Megumi’s growth because they have not had an experience of growth like Megumi’s.
Also, yes, growth and development are interchangeable.
Megumi is OP and he doesn’t even realize it
Back to this idea of Megumi’s possible character arc: Megumi learns to get out of his own way and develops an overwhelming sense of self so that he can bring out said overwhelming power.
Just based on that premise alone, it’s impossible to separate Megumi from development.
Megumi didn’t just wake up one morning and went from...
Tumblr media
To...
Tumblr media
In fact, everything that happens between both points in Megumi’s character arc helps him grow and develop.
He had to first realize that his imagination and sense of self was limiting how he used his Cursed Technique...
Tumblr media
He had to realize that he had fallen behind and had to rethink his sense of self if he wanted to get stronger...
Tumblr media
He had to be called out on his propensity to play small...
Tumblr media
And not just by Gojo...
Tumblr media
But Megumi’s development as a character can also be seen outside of his power as a sorcerer and in how he’s opened up to the people around him.
Tumblr media
And how he’s come to learn to value his own life and abilities...
Tumblr media
And all of these examples are mostly from Pre-Shibuya events and don’t even include how he caught new Pokémon mastered Rabbit Escape, held his own ground against Dagon (a Special Grade Cursed Spirit) in a battle of Domain Expansions, and unleashed Mahoraga as a big, massive “fuck you” to that kid who stabbed him.
This also doesn’t even include how he’s grown in confidence in his abilities since he began exploring the limits of his imagination about what is possible for him.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the humility required to understand his limitations and that he needs to and can rely more on others.
Tumblr media
I won’t get into it in detail here but Megumi is a metaphor for how personal growth and development is the result of re-integrating the psychic material hidden away in the shadow--shadow work is the process of bringing into the light of consciousness the unconscious psychic material defining your life experience.
In turn, this shadow work is what allows Megumi to transform the way he thinks about himself (his sense of self) and how doing so unleashes powers that he did not know he could bring forth.
So...
Basically...
Tumblr media
You can’t separate Megumi from development because Megumi IS a character study on quantum (?) Psychological development.
Why quantum? Because Megumi has grown by leaps and bounds in a way that you can only accomplish when you are highly conscious of your self.
In other words, in a story about how the strongest characters are the ones with the strongest sense of self, Megumi is well on his way to joining the ranks of Sukuna and Gojo and doesn’t even know it.
Tumblr media
Anyways, hopefully I was able to illustrate Megumi’s development “that he doesn't have”.
Again, Gege’s writing style is very nuanced and leaves A LOT up for interpretation so you kind of only see these things in retrospect.
I also want to say that, looking back, Megumi’s underwhelming performance earlier on in the manga is so damn human and so damn relatable. And it is the fact that he came across as an underwhelming character early on in the story that makes it feel all the more exciting to see him grow in confidence.
But listen. GRACIAS for inviting me to brain rot about Megumi!
And gracias for joining me in the Mental Gymnastics, it took me a while to respond to your ask but I do hope you got a good stretch. Last but not least, gracias as well for the kind words ♥.
Happy non-JJK-Sunday!

You’re like the only Naruro blog I follow and none of my friends have read Naruto so please I must share my thoughts with someone ;-; So I’m at about chapter 300 of the Naruto manga and this is the first time I’ve actually consumed any canon content of the series despite having dipped my toes into the fandom content before. I have a few things to get off my chest. One, I don’t really get why the fandom HATES Sakura so much. Yes, in OG Naruto, she is generally useless, but more so bc she was so sidelined completely. Her first fight against the puppet dude in Shippuden was genuinely so fun to read, and she’s actually so strong, more than I thought just based on what I’d heard prior to reading the manga!! The worst parts about the mangaka’s writing really come out when she has to deal with her feelings for Sasuke, the damsel in distress trope hits horrifying new levels of awful. If the romance hadn’t existed, I think she could have been such a better character, because then the mangaka wouldn’t have to add his such shit writing of women outside of punch heal heal medical ninja™️. (Although I will say, I do love her friendship with Naruto and I think that was written great!) Like I really do like her character but the writing is just so bad sometimes. Secondly, Sasuke. Kinda. Unbearable. I know he’s out for revenge and all that, and that he has a redemption later on but for now🥲 I can’t stand him I’m sorry 🥲. 2 edgy 4 m3. And right now, he’s kinda just. genuinely stupid. And I can’t take it. This is totally just a personal thing tho, I get that it’s a part of his character arc. Finally, I sorta get the impression that the fandom (not on tumblr but in general) really take their interpretation of characters to the extreme, and have the most one dimensional view of characters. For example, Tsunade genuinely seems like an awesome Hokage, is one of Naruto’s biggest supporters, and all the fandom sees is her boobs. Sakura is “useless” and “evil” for not returning Naruto’s feelings. They think Sasuke is a cool edgy deuteragonist who can do no wrong despite doing so many things wrong. “He tried to kill Sakura? Good!! She was useless anyway!!” So many of my views of the characters has been completely flipped on its head now that I’m actually reading the series. My view of the characters before I started reading was so skewed by an awful fandom. I really did believe that Sakura was useless, and that Hinata was somehow a better character????? And that Sasuke was actually justified in what he did, and that Tsunade was a bad hokage, to name a few. Makes me feel so stupid that I just believed it. Anyway, thats my rant! I hope this isn’t too negative or anything, but people sometimes praise this series like it’s the peak writing of all time, when there’s issues like blatant sexism (just to name one) within the writing itself and the fandom. I am really enjoying the series right now and am looking forward to what happens next!
:SCREAMS AND CLAPS VERY LOUDLY: YEAH YEAH YEAH
The women in Nar/uto are done dirty BOTH by Kish/imoto and a fair proportion of the fandom. I understand why some parts of the fandom venerate Sak/ura to make up for this and act like she was written amazingly, but I gotta admit, I find that annoying as well jhfjfgjdgjf.
Tsu/nade is honestly one of the few women in Nar/uto who I genuinely love to watch! I love that she's allowed to be messy and drunken and a gambler, but she's also got a strong head for politics, and she's amazing on the battlefield. And honestly, who better to run a country than someone who can run a hospital??? You need a similar mentality, lolololol. Like, yeah, she makes some poor decisions! As does every leader in the history of ever. But she's fun to watch and this is fantasy, so that's what counts!
Her obvious love and care for Nar/uto and Kon/oha are so sweet. The forehead kiss got me all kinds of soft. What a badass granny! I also shamelessly shipped her and Shi/zune even as a kid, shhhhh
I think I love certain interpretations of fanon!Sak/ura a lot more than canon!Sa/kura - she does have INCREDIBLE moments in the show, which I adore, and she's allowed to be both physically strong and emotionally vulnerable, which is awesome. But so much of her arc centres on Sas/uke, the edgelord who I was mildly obsessed with when I first watched at 13, but now just see as your average... well, 16/17 yo EDGELORD, and it makes me roll my eyes up into the stratosphere. The ending of her arc will never not make me cringe. Especially since she has her bangs back... like... kish/imoto... mmm. I think I'm maddest that she has SUCH POTENTIAL to be an amazing character, and it wasn't really tapped into - it felt like she was constantly sidelined to focus on the boys' arcs.
As for Sas/uke himself... A lot of his fans will happily ignore every awful thing he does just because he absolutely has a point about Kon/oha being terrible and needing reform (am I still pissed about how very little of importance changed in Bor/uto??? maybe so.... put the fucking frontline fighting age up to 18 at least, jfc). Like - don't get me wrong! I love that he does terrible things! I think he deserves to be a little bit unhinged, and it kinda suits his character as, again a 16/17 yo edgelord. That's just what they're like. But he's very much an Ends Justify The Means guy and I can't take anyone seriously who argues that a vengeful, bloodthirsty child becoming dictator of all ninjalands would've been the better option, actually.
THANK YOU FOR RANTING, I love to hear it!

That post on Superman made me think why I’m writing my novel. Since it’s from a work that I haven’t got to finish (got sidetracked because I decided that I should write a fanfic where an idol reincarnates as a mech pilot), I’ll put under Read More.
I mentioned in the tags that gentleness is underrated strength in our current time (among others). Maybe I was just being a boomer when saying this, so you can ignore that, but still why do many people complain? I studied heroism and heroes from an academic point of view and I know that the monomyth/hero’s journey is bullshit.
In my novel, Mara is a loser. Both before and after going to Tabula. Before, she’s poor, ugly, unhealthy and perceives herself to be unloved and unlovable (she thinks her mom hates her and she’s only partially right). After that, nothing changes; even if she gets the “solution” to being poor, ugly and unhealthy, everyone there is brainwashed to serve her and those aren’t either freaking hate or pantshittingly fear her.
But one thing that I want to include is Mara losing all intellectual debates and discussions. I always hated the trope of small kid humiliating everyone else. Mara is just a teenager, she only doesn’t flunk because she’s studying in the literally worst school in all of Tokyo, they’re too apathetic to flunk kids there. Of course she has no capacity to win against an intellectual debate (1).
Returning to Mara, she has a few things: faith, kindness, gentleness. She’s the very definition of a good girl and that’s what being tested here. Tojava is doing all those things because, while she believes in the good potential of mankind, she thinks the best course of action is removing mankind’s ability to choose evil, no matter the cost. Mara has to be tempted to either agree with Tojava or become bitter and closed to the world (because she isn’t becoming a villain, she has no drive for that).
But I’m aiming for a third choice. Mara is a devout Catholic, but, in the beginning she’s one because it fulfills a need in her life (God is love), so she doesn’t really know why she is one. Her time in Tabula will test that and many times she’ll feel God has abandoned her. But through perseverance she has to learn she can’t be someone passive; if God is love, you have to put that in practice. Otherwise, her defeat is guaranteed because those fancy powers are temporary.
That’s what makes Superman so interesting as a character: he has a lot of fancy powers, but they don’t really define who he is; rather, they provide even more incentive for him to be kind, gentle, compassionate. And I hope to do something like that in my novel.
(1) There’s an academic edge to this, which is fitting because I work in the field. Aristotle taught us that debates can be won and the one who lost should submit (I only read his Poetics, but this I’m saying from a former pastor of mine who said this to me, who, in hindsight, was a bit too much interested in winning arguments, and whose church I don’t go anymore for a large variety of reasons and I don’t regret anything), but the more I study philosophy of science, the more I see that, from a technical point of view it’s impossible to win a debate because we’re always discovering new things in science that might make old debates outdated. It’s like attributing magical properties, the final word of a debate is a conversion spell. I won a debate once, when I had facebook, against a contact who always won against me; I managed to trap him and win…we stop talking (he was another who put way too much interest in winning debates), but even after “winning”, I felt it was one of the emptiest experiences of my life. Contrast with Ayn Rand, another person who had a bit too much faith in the miraculous properties of debates, and a big fan of Aristotle, who loved to create strawmen for her characters to beat subhuman antagonists; and whose biographers said it was invincible in debates, but her invincibility was more because it made the other realize “why the hall am I taking to her?” and just move on with their lives. This is why I hate the trope of "super genius defeats so-called wise men", because it's just so self-indulgent in a toxic way, even when I agree with the winning side.

ashdkfk so true!!!! You are absolutely right on everything!! Boy it is SO refreshing to read opinions like yours because I feel like many people love to bring the same thing about "but Jin created a war--" WELL. Actually! that wasn't Jin. idc what Harada says, but at least he saw the huge mistake he made and is now kinda fixing it on T8. I really like DJ but.. he's *not* Jin. But yeah, I'm not surprised someone said that about Josie :/ ... I've read other things re the female characters, especially about Xiaoyu and Asuka. Whenever someone says they're generic or smth I go "Can't read suddenly idk". As you said Tek has lots of unserious stuff. And it was one of the things that bothered me on 7 bc the Mishimas had their serious storyline while the rest were like,, for the lulz.. I don't think they even bothered to do more than that.
Also the thing you said about Heihachi took me out lmao. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring him back, SOMEHOW. But thank you! Tbh I get hyped whenever I see your posts getting hyped over T8 (if that makes sense?? my English sucks) love how you write Jin! I can’t wait for the game. Hopefully, it will be as great as it looks. I need it like yesterday lol. Btw, I'm starting to think I should go by "hype anon" or something(??)' (I'm going to stop talking now this is way too long I'm sorry! :| )
Thank you!! And YEAH - it's easy to look at a character, and poor writing, and see that it's something the character wouldn't do, and say "this isn't the character lol." But the Tek fandom just CAN'T seem to wrap that around their head!
I like DJ a lot, too! But totes, he's not Jin!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now it seems like we now have 'em both referring to each other as different people! And well, I guess ppl forgot this - but even in TK2, we saw Kaz fighting against Devil Kaz. Which may just be seen as symbolism - but in TK4, Devil Kaz even refers to Kaz by name, asking what he's doing. (And plus Heihachi didn't recognize Devil Kaz as Kaz.) So because of this, I always saw DJ and Jin as different people - just habiting the same body. I also find this concept to be much more interesting than trying to claim DJ is just "Jin but evil!11!!1 his dark desires!!1!!!" Just because that concept if sooo generic and overused for fighting games. Mortal Kombat has their revenants which is just that, and Street Fighter as Ryu and Evil Ryu. And since I wrote in the MK fandom once - I already wrote that concept and I'm bored with it. Jin and DJ being enemies who are forced to share a body is very fascinating to me.
So, that's also why I roll my eyes when I see ppl say that TK6's writing is "justified" because DJ represents what Jin really wants. (Fuck off with thaaat.) And even if somehow, someway, Jin did go "dark." I don't see him behaving like DJ. I see Jin behaving more angrier and aggressive - but not sadistic and maniacally laughing and stuff.
Funny thing is - I actually wasn't too happy with Xiao's depiction in the Bloodline anime because I felt they made her more generic than she is in the games. XD Imo, not many of the Tek characters are "generic." Yes, they all have tropes. (Xiao's the bubbly schoolgirl, Jin's the stoic main character.) But like, many characters are built upon established tropes. It's how they're written and how they actually act with those tropes that make them unique. I really don't see how Asuka's generic. Even if she can be a bit pointless to her family's story, she can be entertaining as a character personality wise imo.
AND YEAHHH - I may also be in the minority who didn't completely hate the TK7 story like many people do. But I def agree they fucked the other characters up completely. Like yeah, I still have gripes about the TK7 story - but at least it was taken seriously. And Heihachi did stuff and was taken seriously again. (Unlike you know, in TK5 and TK6 where he has endings of him sending his family to... Space to kill them.) But my God, I finally got around to unlocking all the character endings a few months ago and TK7 probably has the worst character endings - maybe even worse than TK6 (if not just as bad. As TK6 wasn't all juvenile humor, but a lot of them was just short 30 seconds of Nothing Happening) I'd say Miguel probably had the best ending - if it didn't remind of TK6 and made me angry because of that.
I feel like they will bring back Heihachi - even just to be in the roster, and not alive. Just because even if the character is dead - players still liked his style, and therefore, enjoyed playing as him. I feel like they could pull a Kazumi, and have Heihachi in a flashback, and thus he can be in the roster because of that. Lots of people are saying "they could make clone or robo Heihachi - or even a new apprentice!" But really, I think Flashback Heihachi is most likely. Honestly, I wouldn't really mind if TK8 brought in a lot of "dead" characters as DLC. Like they're just DLC, and most Tek characters have no impact on the story anyway (LOL) So... what would be the big deal? It'd be nice to see Jinpachi or Ogre again.
Don't worry about your English! You haven't said anything that was unclear to me yet, so it's been all good! And thank you soooo very much about that!!! I love writing this character, and I love my concepts - so it's always joyful to know others do, too. <3 And I really like talking to you about the games! As said, it gives me an excuse as well to ramble all my ideas! Which is funny bc you were worried about going on to long, but now I'm going on way too long. xD

Books I read it March and April 2022
Normal People, Sally Rooney
I’m going to be honest, I still don’t know how I feel about this book. I did enjoy a good portion of it, and sometimes felt as if I connected with and knew exactly what Rooney was trying to say with this story, and other times it was completely lost on me and I would be irritated with it. A lot of people either love or hate Sally Rooney books and I feel like the perfect in between.
Heir to Edenbrooke, Julianne Donaldson
This is a novella following the love interest Philip from from Donaldson’s novel Edenbrooke which I read in February. It was a welcomed addition to reading the novel and I enjoyed reading things from Philips perspective. It did get a bit repetitive at times since some of the scenes were exactly the same as the novel just from a different characters perspective but I didn’t mind that much!
Celia, A slave, Melton A. McLaurin
This book follows the court case of Celia who was charged for the first degree murder of her enslaver Robert Newsom after she experienced over five years of repeated sexual abuse at his hand and was once again under the threat of sexual abuse the night she killed him (literally self defence - but the law at the time did not see it that way.) I read this for one of my classes and wrote a paper about it that focused on gender. You should know going into this book that it doesn’t follow Celia’s life or Celia’s perspective in her own case; it mostly discusses the white men involved in her case and the politics of white men in her region. She couldn’t testify in court against Robert Newson for her own case because she was an enslaved woman and had no legal rights - and nothing much is known about her life before or during the case. So it’s almost entirely about white men; from her enslaver to the men who interrogated her to the lawyers and the judges involved in her case.
The Final Empire, Brandon Sanderson
This was my first Brandon Sanderson book and boy did I love it more than I thought I would. I absolutely loved his use of tropes, his world building, his hard magic system and his characters and everything really. It all just worked so seamlessly together. Can’t wait to read the next book :] (if it continues on this path it might end up being one of my favourite fantasy series of all time!)
Heartstopper 4, Alice Oseman
This book was simultaneously triggering and healing for me, so it’s kind of hard to talk about without getting too personal. But god did I love it so much despite all the crying over it lmao! Alice Oseman did it again. And I really think this is the most important and well done Heartstopper volume yet. Charlie Spring you deserve the world. (I also reread Heartstopper 1,2&3 just before this but didn’t feel like writing about the ones I had already read - I love all of them! read heartstopper!)
Letters to a Young Poet, Rainer Maria Rilke
I loved this with my entire heart. Rilke’s every word is filled with so much kindness.
Stormy Night, Michele Lemieux
A really sweet children’s story following a young girl with her dog on a stormy night asking herself and the universe all sorts of questions. Questions we ask ourselves as children and questions we continue to ask as we grow up, questions that we’ll never know the answer to and ask anyways. I wish I read this on a stormy night but I guess a sunny morning was just as an appropriate time to read it!
Thanks for reading muah <3 I really did not know what to say for so many of these books so I just kinda threw it together because I really want to continue writing these posts for myself - it will be nice to have them all at the end of the year.
Here’s the post I wrote on January and February if you’re interested

people are like im 37 years old and assumedly have a whole life with a job and friends but i spend sooo much energy thinking about how the biggest problem in the world is that pedophilic content is censored and not easily available and i make infographics about it and how awesome it is to be attracted to children and how it is ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR to tell someone online that it’s disgusting, and actually i think it’s just like homophobia (i’m allowed to say that because i’m queer) and we need to celebrate our FREEDOM to do anything we want (be attracted to children) and if you point out my age YOU’RE BEING AGEIST and we cherish our precious incest ships because there’s nothing better than a story about forbidden love (and if someone is trying to CENSOR a specific kind of story, that means it should be celebrated so much more [i hate oppression sooo much... btw i hate most Black characters, for mysterious reasons]) and also i have a huge over-reliance on tropes because there’s absolutely no substance to what i write and everything i read has to be the same story over and over again and i have mental breakdowns over people telling me every day that im a bad person? that i am dangerous to kids (again, i’m queer so this kind of statement sounds very suspicious and familiar. ignore the fact that i enjoy sexual content about children)? that i should touch grass? that i should stop pretending criticism of people like me spawns from puritanical beliefs? that i should stop pretending this is meaningful commentary on fandom culture? that i should stop reminiscing about the good ol’ days (REMEMBER FANDOM HISTORY!!! THIS IS FOR SOME REASON SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!!!!! REMEMBER WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!! WHY ARE WE ACTING LIKE THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT CULTURAL THING!!) when apparently everyone in fandom loved pedophilia, before you pesky KIDS came along and ruined it.......... oh.............. that i should stop pretending my ideology is against bullying and harassment (ignore how i sic my badass pedophile friend group onto people to make clumsy insults about them if someone DARES to try to say anything critical about me flaunting my attraction to children)? that i am repulsive and my life has no value and i add nothing to this world and i should die HEY WAIT that sounds exactly like fascism, don’t those guys try to eradicate certain types of people? you seriously want to do a pedophile genocide? oh, you’re just saying it on an individual basis and you don’t think there should be a systemic ability to kill people for any reason? i can’t believe you openly hurl DEATH THREATS at people... isn’t that morally reprehensible? what if i said i think people are born this way? i can’t change this about me, so why should it be condemned (ignore how it’s very much a choice to seek out pedophilic media and constantly engage with it and spends hours upon hours drawing or writing that shit and posting about it and making it my entire personality and life)? am i supposed to just NOT reply obsessively to each and every comment that rightfully upset fourteen year olds leave on my posts and act like i deserve a reminder every second of the day that my choices are fucking terrible and i make a very dangerous environment for everyone, but especially young people who simply want to talk about their cartoons in peace? am i just not supposed to post my explicitly sexual art of the characters while using the main tags and putting no kind of warning (ignore how i love to tell people to curate their online experience and say that we ALWAYS make it easy to avoid seeing this shit) hey also, this time, the art wasn’t even depicting characters who are minors so i don’t know what you people are getting so upset about! i can’t believe every single one of you folx who are AGAINST people like me definitely all know each other and all communicate in a giant group chat and talk about how to conspire against us innocents! i can’t believe that you would say such things to VICTIMS OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE (nobody else except us has ever actually experienced this btw and differing views are just wrong, but i am totally a reasonable normal person) or say that our background means nothing regarding our choices and actually makes it worse because we use our victimhood as a way to groom people into our cult or try to soften what we really get up to or that we encourage abuse victims to read triggering content because no no it’s soooo healing and normal and healthy - ONE therapist i heard of said it was okay - or if you have intrusive thoughts because of ocd, you should also totally engage with pedophilic content- have you ever heard of immersion therapy? it’s the exact same thing and it won’t do anything weird to your brain at ALL and you’ll have really regular, healthy perceptions of the world and people, and be able to interact with others in a really Usual and Not odd way. if you have a problem with my online presence then uhhhh i think you’re a big whiny snowflake, you’re probably like TWELVE years old (i evidently really hate kids, they’re ALWAYS pestering me and snivelling so uh KIDS DNI, but also i just read smut involving a kid this same age) and you wouldn’t survive anywhere in the REAL world... but anyway yeah, fiction has no affect on reality and that’s why i have such a tight grip on all this fiction i enjoy and spend every waking moment of my day thinking about.
also please tag any criticism about media i like. it will ruin my day if i see a worldview that differs from mine, or anything that adds complexity or nuance to my interests. thank you.

Like, is the gist "Real life pedophilia/incest/rape is bad, and stories saying these things are good are bad, but including these topics in a story isn't inherently bad, so the people being like 'hey, maybe Ao3 shouldn't have so much kiddie porn there's an entire category called "Underage"' are just overreacting and making things worse?" Because it feels like you're saying, "your negative reaction to this stuff is valid, but also you're annoying and prudish and bad and really you aren't valid."
So here’s the thing: it really does not sound like you're asking this question because you want my answer, it sounds like you want to be angry with me and have a fight. And fair enough! I'm not terribly interested in a fight, but apparently this is my day to dive into this topic as thoughtfully and honestly as I can be. Maybe I'll say something you haven't already heard from other people before. Maybe not! Only you, anonymous asker, know that.
To begin with, you got part of the gist right. Real life rape (including child abuse/child sexual abuse as well as incest) is bad. Stories about rape, about underage sex, and about incest, are stories.
They're stories. They're pixels on a screen. They're not real. Whether they claim that rape is good, or bad, or sexy, or melodramatic, or life-destroying, or a normal Tuesday afternoon. They're stories.
And having a negative reaction to them is valid. Stories can stir up powerful emotions in people. It is absolutely, 100%, fair and valid and even normal for there to be certain tropes, plot elements, events, and kinds of content that make you upset and that you never want to see in a story you read, ever. You don't have to want to read about sex. You don't have to want to read any of it. That doesn't make you bad.
There are tropes, plot elements, events, and kinds of content that upset me. There are stories I won't read. The same is true of literally everyone else I know. Even though I know the stories aren't real. Even though I know the things happening in them are happening to fictional characters, who do not exist, who I cannot protect and who also cannot be harmed because they're not real. Even then, I can be made sad and scared and upset and hurt by reading those stories. And that is okay and that is valid and I am not bad or wrong for being upset about the story I've read, and neither are you.
But that doesn't mean the story doesn't have value to somebody else. That doesn't mean the story isn't important to somebody else.
What I see most often coming from antis, possibly even including yourself, is an overwhelming desire to protect. They want to keep themselves and others--possibly people they know, possibly hypothetical people they may never meet--safe from being hurt by these stories. And that desire to protect, also, is normal. It's even admirable! The problem, though, the thing that does more harm than good, is when that desire to protect drives people to lash out against things that matter to other people.
There is a difference between actual rape and stories about rape. There is a difference between a story that could theoretically hurt somebody, someday (which is all stories, always), and a story that hurts you personally. And there is a difference between a story that hurts you personally, and a story that is inherently poisonous to everyone who touches it.
We know--absolutely, scientifically, incontrovertibly--that stories about rape do not make people rapists. Yes, even the stories where the rape is there to be sexy. Even stories where the person being raped is a child. Even then. Fiction is not the same thing as normalization; again, there are far smarter people who have written far more extensively on that topic than I, and next time I come across something that goes more into detail on this point I promise I will reblog it. If this really is the thing you're afraid of, I may not be the right person to convince you that this is an unfounded fear, but I know someone out there can elaborate on it.
(Unfounded, which is not the same thing as invalid. My mother's claustrophobia is unfounded; it flares up in many situations where there's no physical threat whatsoever, where she has plenty of space to move and air to breathe. It's still real. It still chokes her. It's still valid, she is not bad or broken to feel that way, and she still can't drive through certain tunnels. The fear is real. But the thing she's afraid of can't physically hurt her, and that is worth knowing in terms of how she deals with it.)
We know, absolutely, scientifically, and incontrovertibly, that stories about rape and many, many, many other things can hurt and even traumatize their readers. Even though the situation you're reacting to is not real and you receive no physical injury, you can still be hurt by it. The key word there, though, is readers. The fact that the horror genre is out there terrifying people who enjoy being terrified for fun does not damage me unless I do something stupid and try listening to the Magnus Archives again and end up tense and miserable and paranoid for the rest of the week. The fact that guacamole is apparently delicious to everybody else in the world does not hurt me unless I do something stupid and order the wrong thing at a restaurant, and end up itchy and miserable with a little trouble breathing for the rest of the night.
The fact that there are, yes, tens of thousands of fics on AO3 in which characters under the age of 18 have sex? It can't hurt you. Those fics do not hurt you by existing. They can only hurt you if you read them. They can only hurt anyone who reads them. That's why there is an 'Underage' tag--and it's worth noting, 'Underage' is a warning, not a category. Nobody wants you to get hurt reading the wrong fic, any more than the sushi chef wants my throat to swell up because I ordered something with avocado. Literally nobody wants that.
The flip side, of course, is that you hating each and every one of those fics individually and as a group doesn't actually hurt me, or anyone else who writes, reads, or enjoys them. By itself. You can hate anything you like, and fic writers can write anything they like, and it all comes out in the end, more or less. Except.
Except that reading fic is always, entirely, 100% opt-in, and online harassment isn't even opt-out. Some antis have a nasty habit of going after writers whose content they don't like; climbing into inboxes and comments sections, calling those writers nasty names, throwing around cruelties and aggression and insults. I know that's not the same thing as simply disliking a genre, or even passively disagreeing with its existence (although disliking a genre and disagreeing with its right to exist are also very different things). I know not all antis do that. I don't know you, anon, but based on the speed and aggressiveness of this response to my last post, I can't help but wonder if you would do that.
And that does hurt people. Just like it might hurt you if someone threw a bunch of content that makes you uncomfortable into your inbox. Including the harasser, actually--because getting into fights with strangers on the internet about things that make you angry, sad, defensive, and upset isn't good for anybody. Including both you and me.
Anyway, after yet another lengthy ramble, let's get the tl;dr response to your ask here: nobody is ever bad or wrong for disliking certain content in their stories, no matter what that content is. You and your emotions are valid. The "overreacting and making things worse" part isn't about what you feel, but what you do with it. Constantly engaging with places where the thing that upsets you will probably show up, even to argue and try to fight it, will make things worse in the sense that now you're spending way more time thinking about this thing that makes you upset and angry, thereby leaving you more upset and angry. Getting together with a bunch of your upset, angry friends to make your feelings everybody else's problem? Makes fandom a more toxic place for everyone else involved.
Don't read stuff that's going to hurt you. Don't make other people read stuff that's going to hurt them. That's the whole thing, really.

Hello, this is my first time asking something and I just can say that I love so much your swapped! AU, maybe if your req is open, could you do the reaction of the brothers (of the swapped! AU) to the Replaced! AU? please
The last days I was reading a lot of this on tumblr, and I'm just want to know how the brothers would react to this.
It's okey if you can't do it, btw I love so much your works ^^
I'm sorry if there is a grammatical mistake, my main language is Spanish and I am still learning English, so I'm using google
Please don't apologise for your English, I understand you perfectly!! I'm also incredibly honoured to be your first ask, I hope you enjoy your time here 😊 A few people have requested it so here are just some quickfire headcanons on it~
Swapped!AU: Brothers React to the Replaced AU
In a world where the brothers are players of Obey Me! and you’re their favourite character, how would they react to the Replaced AU, a fanfiction trope where you turn against them in favour of someone else? Genre: Fluff, Angst (?) Word Count: 1.1k
Asmodeus
It may come as a surprise but Asmodeus is the most devastated out of all the brothers by this trope. It’s not obvious, he’d laugh it off but as someone who strives for validation - and you being the one he fell in love with - he can’t handle the thought of you turning against him
He tried to read it once though and curiosity killed the cat. He cried throughout the entire ordeal and changed tabs to read nothing but fluff for the next hour, unable to even finish the fic
If the fanfic has you insulting his appearance or that he's boring to be around, he'll be absolutely destroyed
Regrets ever reading it and never will touch the Replaced AU again. He’s embarrassed by how much a popular fanfic genre has sullied his mood but he will be pouty for the rest of the week and spending even more time than usual for self care
Beelzebub
Doesn’t like it at all, he simply has too much faith in you. It doesn’t make sense, you’ve spent so much time bonding and supporting the protagonist throughout the game, how could you suddenly change?
He tried reading it out of sheer curiosity but was quick to drop it when it didn’t pique his interest. No matter how justified or explained your sudden change in personality is, he still feels it’s unrealistic
This 'new' side of you isn't fun at all and it genuinely hurts him you being so hostile. He might have crushed his phone again just out of the urge to hug you
Is genuinely shocked at how popular the Replaced AU is but to each their own. He’d much rather go off playing the game or reading some fluff fanfics and that’s exactly what he does
Belphegor
Belphegor acts nonchalant about it. He isn’t fond of the trope (it’s a dating game, so why are people writing stuff where the love interests hate them?) but if a fanfiction is entertaining and well written he might as well give it a try
He finds it amusing at times. Like his twin, he doesn’t believe the trope is realistic since your good nature has been shown throughout the game, so it’s honestly no harm done by reading it
Actually enjoys the darker endings. He loves when the protagonist just chooses chaos and wreaks havoc on everyone in revenge for the pain they've felt
He has no preference for or against the Replaced AU in theory but started to avoid it when he had some unpleasant dreams of it. It’s inconvenient being woken up by it so he usually reads other fanfics instead
Leviathan
Despite knowing what the Replaced AU was all about and how much he didn’t like the thought of it, he read it. He wouldn’t be a true (Y/N) fan if he couldn’t handle some measly words!!
The first time he read it, he truly couldn’t handle it, it sent him down a spiral of his typical self-deprecating thoughts. Of course you’d hate him, he’s just a yucky otaku and now somehow the fanfiction community realised that-
Oddly enough, he finds himself coming back to read the trope. Maybe a poor part of him finds it the most realistic fanfiction out there for him, maybe he enjoys seeing you be envious of other characters interacting with the protagonist, seeing you pine for him like he pines for you
Luckily he only picks up the renditions of the Replaced AU that have a happy ending. Still, after finishing a Replaced AU fic he comes back to the actual game so he can see you smiling and appreciating him
Lucifer
Lucifer actually finds it amusing and entertaining. He rarely has time to read fanfiction but the Replaced AU became a bit of a guilty pleasure for him
Despite the protagonist being mistreated, he feels smug at the protagonist being morally right against all the unfair judgement, like a martyr of sorts as they still commit selfless acts. It boosts his pride
He finds it entertaining because Lucifer is excellent at compartmentalising. The you in the Replaced AU simply isn’t the one who greets him in the game, he’s able to appreciate the two separately
Another guilty pleasure aspect is when the Replaced AU ends in a power fantasy where the protagonist snaps and rules over all. He’d rather it just end with the protagonist being with you but this is a good alternative
Mammon
Mammon typically steers clear from the angst, he didn’t know what he was getting into when he started reading the Replaced AU and boy does he regret it
The instant he senses your behaviour is off in the fanfiction he’s distancing his face from the screen as if he's waiting for a jumpscare. When you get ruder and colder towards him he’s clicking away from the fanfic and is shocked to find mountains of fanfics just like the one he just read
You’re his comfort character, the one who has faith in him and would accept him no matter what. He can’t stomach a trope that goes against that so he couldn’t even finish the first Replaced AU fic he read (he might even block the Replaced AU tag so he never gets reminded)
Likely ranted in a post or two of how the trope slanders your character and calls it stupid. He’ll never admit that he thinks the Replaced AU is an interesting concept, he just wants his happy ending with you
Satan
Depending on how it’s written and its various interpretations, Satan is intrigued, both in the trope itself and how it took off in popularity
As an avid reader, he is aware that even the most mellow and kind-hearted people can snap in certain environments. If that environment is accurately portrayed, then the Replaced AU can be a fascinating deep dive into your character
As long as it’s well written and it’s clear care and thought was put into it, he’ll read any interpretation of the Replaced AU and is interested to see where it will go. For him, it’s less a self indulgent read and more a thriller to keep him on the edge of his seat
That being said, Satan is quite critical about the majority of Replaced AU fanfictions. He knows your character better than anyone and believes it will take a lot more than a second exchange student for you to ignore the protagonist entirely

Bang Bang, Kiss Kiss
Tumblr media
First Kiss HC
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None, mention of cliché teen-romance tropes
Characters: Manjiro Sano, Ken Ryuguji, Chifuyu Matsuno, Keisuke Baji
Tumblr media
❧ Manjiro Sano (Mikey)
Your first kiss with Mikey would be the worst day of your life
I mean it. You even thought about moving countries afterwards
You see…Mikey is not the easiest person to be in a relationship with
You would have to initiate most of the “normal” relationship stuff
And taking the first step with someone like Mikey can be intimidating
Depending on the situation you are in he might even stop you and your attempts, e.g., when you try anything in the middle of a Toman meeting. He has no problem calling you out
So, you would have to plan it beforehand and get the timing right
You would have to be alone, like after he took you out on his bike. A quiet moment where he is your Mikey completely and not Toman’s invincible leader
A warm summer night sounds just perfect, doesn’t it?
you gather all your courage, sweaty palms, shaky breath, every possible emotion and thought in your racing mind
You’d both be leaning against his bike, watching the night sky when you turn towards him, take his face between your palms, giving him a soft peck.
Your initial determination crumbled when he did not respond the slightest. He was frozen in place and a million and one different things went through your head, with the conclusion that you’d have to convince your parents to move out of Tokyo
Thinking your life was over, you turned around to run away, like the girls in your typical teen-movies, but something or someone kept you in place
You hadn’t noticed him holding your wrist, so your only way of escaping the situation was to look away
Mikey didn’t understand why you’d kiss him only to run away afterwards
He didn’t really know what to do next, cue to him giving you a peck that reflected yours, short and sweet
now you were both speechless
„Ahh, I’m sleepy.“
“What?”
That’s how he lightened the situation
You never talked about it afterwards, but little pecks in private became a ritual for you two
❧ Ken Ryuguji
your first kiss would happen sometime after you started dating
as I have states before, I do think Ken has both, experience and maturity, so he would be in no rush at all and give you full control of the pace your relationship develops
but he is good at reading you, so he understands when you are ready depending on the signals you give him
let’s say he brought you home after a late-night adventure (walking through shibuya and enjoying the atmosphere, yes please)
when it is time to say goodbye, you would give him the usual hug, wrists locked behind neck while standing on your tiptoes
he hugs you back, arms around your waist and his head on yours
you could have stood there for hours, but as all good things, even this one had to end. so you let go of each other, slowly.
your hands barely hold onto his shoulder, you can't stop looking into each others eyes, a fond smile on his lips, your reddened cheeks, that would be the moment for the both of you
you meet in the middle, your lips on his upper lip, while he kissed your lower lip
he holds you up, even lifts you a bit, since the pure ecstasy of the moment makes your legs all wobbly
best boy to have your first kiss with, will make you feel so comfortable and loved
when you both let go you once again can’t help but stare at each other (the loving way) and there is no reason for any of you to be embarrassed, so there is no shame between you, only fondness
❧ Chifuyu Matsuno
Inexperienced, but eager to try and willing to learn, that’s Chifuyu for you
Small steps to test the water, to find out, if you want him to kiss you and because forehead, cheek and nose kisses are not as hard as kisses on the lips
His very first physical interaction with you would be hand holding, once you made it through that, cheek kisses will follow shortly
Would happily accept you to be the one initiating it, but has no problem doing it himself. He doesn’t see cheek kisses as a “girls only” thing.
It is a sign of affection, but would use it as a way to make the whole matter more playful, e.g., to tease you in front of your friends
Forehead kisses as a sign of his support and to comfort you, nose kisses to make you laugh
Plans to make your first kiss romantic and enjoyable for you...
Only for it to happen on accident while he tried to tease you with a cheek kiss
You noticed him behind you, but you were in a conversation with your friend
Your back to his chest, you thought he would rest his head on your shoulder, like he usually does, so you planned to greet him with the obligatory cheek kiss
Problem was, he planned to do the same
Long story short, you were met with soft lips and the very surprised face of your Chifuyu
The situation was so funny, your friend had to turn around to stop herself from laughing, since the both of you stood there, frozen in place, staring at each other and it was the most unromantic moment ever
Yet no one moved
Until the both of you broke out into laughter at the same time
It started with an embarrassed chuckle and turned into holding-my-stomach-because-of-the-pain laughter
“You should have seen yourself, looking like a frog.”
“Says the one who stared at me like a fish out of water”
 ❧ Keisuke Baji
Baji is the type to do something before thinking about it, so it would be that way with your first kiss as well
Wouldn’t know what to do at all – when, where, how, its a mystery to him
He sees it like a battle he needs to get over with to reach the next level, and after enough teasing from his friends, who have more experience than he does, he would finally do it
At the worst possible moment, of course
Like, right in the middle of the school hallway or just before an important exam
Because Keisuke Baji is determined to do things once he has made up his mind about them, no matter what
A loud “Oi” would make you (and many other people around you) turn around
He aims straight for you, long steps, flowing hair, a determined gaze – kinda scary and kinda attractive
One deep breath once he stood in front of you, before he lowered his head and just went for it
Your first kiss was far from what you imagined it to be
Keisuke put way too much force into it, simply pressing his lip on yours like it would do the job, while holding your arms to keep you in place
He pressed his eyes together while you looked at him with yours wide open, completely taken by surprise
It would end as soon as it happened, him removing his lips from yours, freeing you from your trap
You’re both speechless, and that was the moment Baji noticed your surroundings and your visible surprise for the first time
He blushed like a little boy
And hated himself for it
Cue to him trying to leave the scene, with you, of course
Since it happened very early in your relationship (or even before you entered said relationship) it was an interesting experience for the both of you
was way more uncomfortable than you were after realizing what he did, and, god, did he look cute, being all bashful
Like a little schoolboy, your little schoolboy
He fully blames his friend for the outcome (and might even beat them up, playfully)
Tumblr media
what do you think of this? I’m not as satisfied as I hoped to be when I first began writing this...I don’t know...Are they out of character? Am I too insecure? I’m so sorry if this hasn’t turned out too good.
Rosalie🌹
