How do you tell if a snake is asleep?

It can be tricky because of the whole "no eyelids" thing! But there are tells.

No tongue-flicking.

Even when a snake is just chillin', they'll often hold their heads up as opposed to resting their chins on the ground. Head on the ground is a decent giveaway.

Many snakes like to curl up tight when they sleep (at least when they get all settled in for a long rest, not always with short naps).

Their breathing will be so steady and slow you probably won't be able to pick up on it.

Sleeping snakes will often like to curl up with their heads resting on the coils of their bodies! It must feel comfortable and safe.

So I have this “so called best friend” who is hooking up with my other friend, but lies about it blatantly in front of me.. which I’m like.. fine, your personal life.. I don’t give a shit. This other friend.. recently is in financial trouble and has been living with us. And this “so called best friend” has been shit talking about him with me that he’s overstaying his welcome but proceeds to hook up with him the very same night and gets mad at me every time for hanging out with the other friend.

What does she expect me to do? Hang out with people who lie to my face.. talk shit about people they are supposed to be close to.. who knows how much shit she talked about me behind my back.. I don’t trust this girl at all any more.

Garter snakes make friends, organize their society around females

Garter snakes have something in common with elephants, orcas, and naked mole rats: They form social groups that center around females. The snakes have clear “communities” composed of individuals they prefer hanging out with, and females act as leaders that tie the groups together and guide their members’ movements, according to the most extensive field study of snake sociality ever carried out. “This is an important first step in understanding how a community of snakes is organized in the wild,” says Gordon Burghardt, an ecologist at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who was not involved in the research. Other experts agree: “This is a big deal,” says integrative biologist Robert Mason of Oregon State University. “It’s a whole new avenue of research that I don’t think people have really given any thought to.” Ecologists had long assumed snakes are antisocial loners that hang out together only for core functions such as mating and hibernation. Which snakes give off the most aromantic energy?

Honestly, most of them! There are exceptions, like garter snakes, and there's a lot of complexity here that I won't get into for the sake of brevity, but snakes by and large don't form relationships with each other even during breeding season. The most you'll get out of many species is often just "I will tolerate you during breeding season but then you better get out of my sight immediately." The most typical reaction of a snake to seeing another, if one of them cannot eat the other, is complete and utter indifference.

Personally, I nominate king cobras for the most aromantic snakes. They famously tend to dislike each other's presence so deeply that it's not uncommon for attempted courting attempts to end with one of them eating the other.

I brought home a baby corn snake almost 2 months ago. He eats regularly, but I noticed he hides all day! When i take him out for his semi-daily handling sessions he extremely calm and even lets you touch his head. He has several hides, 2 inches of aspen bedding and lots of climbing opportunities, but he prefers to just dig down and hide instead of using the entire enclosure. Is this normal baby corn behavior? So something to keep in mind with corn snakes is that they are crepuscular, meaning they're active at dawn and dusk. They're probably moving around and using their space a lot more than you're seeing, it's just happening at times when you're not observing.

When you're getting them out for handling, that's their day-sleepy time. This isn't bad! You can continue to get them out during the day. It just means they're not as go-go-go during those times.

It's also pretty normal for a baby snake to choose a region of their environment and commit hard. Many of my littles decide they're either a Sky Snek or an Underground Snek early on and that's pretty much how they are. Many will maintain these preferences into adulthood.

In Part III of TBOSAS, Coriolanus tells Sejanus that they are like brothers and that Sejanus can trust him, and this has always stuck out to me for many reasons. However, the one that I want to address right now is the parallel it creates between Snow and Sejanus and Romulus and Remus. Namely, Romulus’s fratricide of Remus which led to Romulus founding the city of Rome, its institutions, government, military, etc. and how it mirrors Snow’s betrayal and killing of Sejanus. Snow’s betrayal is what ultimately led to Gaul allowing Snow to return home and taking him under her wing as a mentor of sorts, as well as him becoming heir to the Plinth fortune. Thus Sejanus’s death resulting from Snow’s actions played a major part (along with Lucy Gray) in setting Snow down the path of evil and to becoming the dictator we see see in the trilogy—the man who instilled new life into the Hunger Games and ensured their survival for the next 65 years.

His name is Stire with they/he/xe pronouns, gender really isn’t a concept they grasp well.

They’re around 18 years old with baby face so people sometimes think they’re as old as the first/second years.

Headcannon Yuu with actual magic back in their realm, but as they’re soul isn’t compatible they can’t use any of it, only keeping some moderate strength and their glowy under hair.

Stire is inspired by the ferryman, the belief that a hooded figure(usually a skeleton of sorts) will take you to your afterlife on a small boat over the River of nyx in exchange for 2-3 coins over your eyes and/or tongue. They worked pretty closely with ghosts and souls so they’re right at home at ramshackle.

They are very quiet and have a very ghostly vibe to them, often scaring people if they don’t announce themselves when they enter a room. Ze once scared the aduece duo so bad through a reflection duece gave them a black eye

ADORES grim, but they don’t gush a lot. Very matter a fact and takes grim very seriously and gets very excited when he does something new.

Autistic, struggles greatly with facial expression and vocal tone(same.) very oblivious to underlying meaning of words and take things matter of factly. Can’t tell when xey are being used until someone tells him he is. Ruggie takes their food a lot…

Likes architecture and gloomy things, so Ramshackle, Diasomnia and Ignihyde are their preferred place of resident as it’s usually dark, cold, and quiet-ish. Very sensitive to stimulation so they like cave like environments that they’re used to. They despise Scarabia because it’s so HOT and BRIGHT.

Their eyes are sensitive to light, with very pale almost grey irises so xey usually hide them under bangs or sunglasses.

Cold all the time, so frigid hands, giant sweaters, warm drinks are a must.
