GENOvember Day 30: A decision.
I've decided to continue writing Geno - every day, posting it publicly or not - until Nintendo officially casts a voice actor for him in something.
Smash, a future Mario movie, a TV show? Don't care what. Do I care if they write him anything like I do? Not in the least. I just want Nintendo to keep using this character.
I'm not speedy enough at drawing to make one art piece a day like Thinginator did… But I DID write 100k words this past month. 😎

Looking up at the starry skies Geno x reader
Just a very short fanfic for my favorite super mario rpg character Geno. I love him and I wrote something short and sweet. Hope you enjoy it!
This fanfic is also posted on Ao3.
---
The adventure was soon coming to its end. It has been a long journey to get this far. You have lived in the mushroom kingdom for a while now and when the smithy gang sent their wicked monsters to torment the poor toads, you helped Mario and Mallow to return the peace. Ever since then you joined in on the hunt for the star pieces and gained new allies.
Out of everyone, you found yourself enjoying the company of Geno. You know that isn’t his actual name and he is just borrowing that wooden action figure as a temporary vessel. But you find him to be rather easy to talk to. Strangely enough, even though he can seem cool and collected on the outside. He is rather adorable when he speaks so passionately about the Star road and about granting wishes.
You had always enjoyed the clear night sky yourself, stargazing was a hobby you enjoyed just fine, but until you started sharing it with Geno. You realize how much more you were enjoying each moment.
However as the saying goes, All good things must come eventually to an end. Nimbus land has been saved and tomorrow you will all venture to confront the Smithy gang.
It’s late in the evening and you find yourself unable to sleep. So you sneak out of the inn to take the rare opportunity to stargaze above the clouds. You sigh as you wander in the empty streets and you take in the sights of the detailed starry sky.
“Wow…” You breathe out, impressed by the sight. You make your way where the royal bus stop was and you sit down on the fluffy ground to admire the sky.
A familiar voice calls your name and you glance back to see Geno approaching you. “I noticed you were gone. How are you doing?” He asked and you smiled, patting the ground next to you. “I’m fine. Just doing some stargazing. Do you want to join me?” You asked and without hesitation Geno joined your side.
He looked up towards the starry sky and after a brief silence, he looked at you. “I must say that it’s a rather beautiful view from above the clouds. It’s just such a shame that the wishes are not going to be granted.” Geno said solemnly and you nod in agreement. “Yeah, but we are going to fix that very soon. I, for one, can't stand for a world without wishes coming true.”
Geno reaches for your hand, squeezing it gently and you smile, thankful that the darkness hid your flushed cheeks. “Thank you. I am grateful to have you as my ally. But very soon I will be…” He hesitated to finish. But deep in your heart you know what he means.
A weight settles on your chest and you look towards the stars. You squeeze his hand. “I know you have to go back to the star road. I’m going to miss you.” You feel tears well up in your eyes and you bite your lip.
Geno wraps an arm around you and he hugs you. He sounded so remorseful.
“I’m sorry. I wish I could stay a little longer. But I have to go back to my duties at the star road.”
You sigh and you gently squeeze him. “It’s not your fault Geno. But when we fix the star road, the next time I see a shooting star, I can make a wish for you to come back. If only for just one day or for a few hours.”
Geno gently stroked your cheek and he chuckled. “That sure sounds nice. But you shouldn’t say your wishes out loud. What if they don’t come true?” He asked and you smirked. Shaking with laughter.
“You listen to wishes all the time up there, don’t you? What’s the difference to me telling you now?”
Geno smiles and he squeezes you. “That’s true. You have got me there. If you make a wish for me to come visit. I’ll be sure to see it granted.”

Super Mario RPG one shot: A Brother's Wish.
Star Hill was unlike anything any of them had ever seen before. Even Geno, who lived amongst the very stars, had to agree at Mallow's soft "Wow" when they set foot on the stardust covered soil. As they traveled to search for the star piece, soft voices whispered up from some of the fallen stars and they quickly realized they were people's wishes. "Oh," Peach gently picked one up, "Geno, when the Star Road is repaired, will these come true?" "They will. I'll make sure they are granted." he replied firmly. The little star in her hands whispered, startling the Princess. "I want my home back." The voice was low and gruff. "Hey!" Bowser snapped, "Put that down, that's mine!" Realizing what he had just said, he tried to backtrack. "I mean, that belongs to somebody! Not me, no way!" "It's okay to have wishes, Bowser." Mallow said. As the king of the Koopas began fussing again, Mario just shook his head and took a few steps away from the noise as Peach and Mallow tried to calm him down. As he walked, Mario overheard Peach. "We all have wishes here, you're not alone." "Bet Mario doesn't!" Bowser growled. "What could he possibly wish for? Little mister perfection!" Ignoring this, Mario just shook his head again and climbed one of the little hills, taking a moment to relax in the soft starlight. Going to sit down, he shot back up when he heard a familiar voice. "Mario…" "Lu?!" he looked around, expecting to see his little brother nearby.
Having decided to take a break, the group settled down, chatting lightly as Mallow handed out snacks from the pack he was carrying. Noticing one was absent, Geno excused himself and went to search for their missing friend. It wasn't long before he spotted the now familiar bright red cap. Approaching, he quietly cleared his throat to avoid startling the other before sitting down beside him. He saw Mario was tenderly holding a star. It pulsed faintly in his hands, and a low, hesitant voice came from it. "I wish I wasn't so weak. I wanna help out my older brother, Mario." Mario held the little star to his heart, his eyes closing. "I didn't realize. Is this what Lu thinks about himself? I never wanted to make him feel like he was weak. I ask him to stay home because if he got hurt, if I lost him…" he looked down lovingly the wish. "I'd lose everything." He then sighed. "Bowser's wrong. There's something I wish for. Every night I make a wish." Geno's eyes widened and he gasped softly as it hit him. He had once heard two wish granters talking while they worked… "Huh, another one, same time just like every night. Should we grant it again?" His companion nodded. "Yup, boss says long as he makes the wishes, we keep granting em." The first granter chuckled softly. "Man, wish I had a sibling like that. Always the same type of wish. 'I hope my little brother has a good day', 'I hope Luigi's safe while I'm gone', but you know my favorite of em?" "What's that?" "'I hope my little brother knows how much he means to me'."
"Geno?" The star spirit blinked, realizing he had been staring off. "Oh, sorry." he muttered. "You okay?" Mario gave him a concerned smile. "Yeah, just, I'll feel better once I know everyone's wishes are being granted again." Mario hummed softly, looking down at the star again. "Yeah, me too."

Roleplay
It was easy to think he'd been a hero this entire time. After all, with everyone backing him, Geno felt he'd been accomplished so much.
But, staring down his greatest enemy, making sure someone he cared for was safe, Geno wasn't sure if he was really meant to be a hero.
Fandom: Super Mario & Releated Fandoms, Super Mario RPG Rating: General Audiences Relationship: Mario/Geno (Nintendo) Additional Tags: Harsh look at reality, It's not always roses, Geno's protective of Gaz, Geno/Mario is a background item, But I'm still making it count!, Smithy's kind of a jerk, There is fire and mentions of burning buildings, Geno gets a little shaken.
Make from @nintendonut1's art: Link
“Whatever happens, just hold onto me, Gaz. And don’t stare at the light for too long.”
Smithy had not taken being defeated well. Instead of falling, as the team had been expecting, the villain had doubled down. Burning red eyes seemed to narrow down on Geno as he stood once more. Declaring he wasn’t going to hide away in his factory any more. That this takeover needed a more direct touch.
Starting with Rose Town.
Geno had never felt so cold before.
Even with the fact they all practically left the portal at the same time, Smithy somehow got a lead. The party arrived in said town with it already on fire. Numerous troupes from Smithy’s gang rushed around and away once the heroes engaged. Mario called for everyone to spread out to help where they could.
Geno was gone before the human finished.
Sturdy footfalls carried him down a path he’d felt uneven walking on only a few days ago. Now only stumbling to avoid the crumbling homes and structures. Still focused on arriving at his destination as quickly as possible.
He shouldn’t feel so sick upon seeing the familiar house up in flames. But it took everything in him to not collapse at the sight.
“Gaz!” the puppet desperately called out, “Gaz, where are you! Can you hear me? Gaz!”
He flinched away as the fire flared up. Feeling as if his soul was crumbling away as the front started to collapse.
“GAZ!”
“G-Geno?”
Relife he’d never felt before seemed to slam into his chest hearing the timid voice. A familiar small Toad just peeking out from the edge of the forest. Clearly terrified and covered with a bit of ash, but otherwise well.
“Gaz… Grambi Above, Gaz!” Gaining strength in his legs once more, Geno rushed over to said child. Feeling comfort by the weight he now carried in his arm. “You’re okay… Are you hurt? Where’s your mother? Where’s anyone?”
“W-We’re all in the forest,” Gaz sniffed weakly, “‘M okay. What’s h-happening?”
Geno faltered as he tried to figure out what he could say about this. “I…I wasn’t able to stop the bad guy fast enough. I’m sorry…”
“But you’re here to stop them now, right?”
“Yeah, yeah of course! I’m going to stop them before you can be hurt any further.”
“Awww, how charming.”
Gaz let out a fearful gasp as he hid away in Geno’s chest upon seeing the person towering behind said puppet. On his part, Geno instantly took a defensive position. One arm wrapped around the small Toad while he faced Smithy. The other was already holding out his weapon.
Said dictator seemed far more imposing with the fire burning casting heavy shadows over him. His eyes seemed to glow a deeper red.
“How something so small could cause so much trouble. Do you want to know something interesting, Little Star?” Smithy asked smugly, “This little piece around my neck holds quite the informative side effect. I can hear every wish that’s been asked for. Every. Single. One. From every living being. Including Stars.”
The overlord chuckled as he watched Geno’s face fall in horror.
“You are quite the interesting being, Little Star. It all started off rather understandable. If not a little dry.”
‘I wish I knew what this stomach pain was.’
‘I wish I knew why I can’t keep my eyes open.’
‘I wish I could understand how people can keep going.’
“I suppose being mortal was a very strange change for you. Being physically tied down is tiring if you’re not used to it all. I’ll be honest, I grew bored of hearing from you after a while. Who wants to hear about wanting to be more ‘mortal’? Not I… Until your wishes turn into something…amazing.”
‘I wish I could tell Gaz how it’s going. He really likes this toy, I’m sure he misses it.’
‘I wish I knew what it was like to have a home. It seems so wonderful to have a place to just relax.’
‘I wish I could enjoy cake every day!’
‘I wish Mallow could keep his smile on his face forever, he deserves to.’
‘I wish Bowser would just admit he likes being around us.’
‘I wish I didn’t feel so nervous around Peach.’
‘I wish I could be as calm as Mario is.’
‘I wish I could be as easy around Mario as Peach is.’
‘I wish I knew why my soul beats so fast when I look at Mario.’
‘I wish I could tell him how I feel.’
‘I wish I was brave enough to tell him how I feel.’
‘I wish I could stay.’
Geno didn’t mean to tighten his grip on Gaz. But hearing his own wishes mockingly repeated back to him was terrifying.
“How absolutely pathetic,” Smithy growled out. Hefting up his hammer to be held in both hands. “If you want to be a mortal, if you want to play the hero, then you need to experience all of it. Even the not so friendly side. You don’t get to pretend.”
“You get to watch this little village burn before I move onto the next town, and the next one. I’m going to make sure you feel the full force of being mortal before I crush you. If you want to act as a hero, prepare to feel failure. Starting with that child.”
The fears he felt were quickly replaced with protective rage. Gaz’s eyes widened in amazement as the weapon pointed at Smithy started to hum. Seeming to suck in light at the tip as a large orb of light began to appear. The multiple colors merge to become white.
“Gaz…”
Said Toad’s attention went to Geno’s face, who was glaring Smithy down.
“Whatever happens, just hold onto me. And don’t stare at the light for too long.”
At that, Gaz buried his face into Geno’s chest. Just before the charged beam was released.
Geno could feel the child flinch as the hum of said attack was released, seeming to mute the area with how loud it was. Smithy moved quick enough to raise the head of the hammer to act as a shield. Feet digging into the ash covered ground as he was pushed back. When he came to a stop, the leader let out a huff followed by a heavy chuckle.
“Well, well, touched a nerve have I?” Smithy smirked, standing once more.
“You have no room to make such threats. I will make you regret those words.” Geno’s voice was cold and unwavering as he stared Smithy down.
“Your little stun gun may pack a punch. But you’re going to need more than that.”
Gaz, who had peeked out, panicked further when the ground began to shake. Letting out a small but terrified scream of surprise as Bowser basically barreled into Smithy. Geno quickly wrapped his other arm around the Toad. The steely anger melted away slowly as he realized it was the rest of the party. Peach and Mallow rushed to help Bowser while Mario drew closer to Geno.
“Hey, are you okay?” Mario asked, “We saw your beam and-”
“He threatened Gaz.” Is what Geno was able to choke out.
The human’s eyes went down to said Toad, who was still clutched close to Geno. Mario offered a comforting smile while gently pulling Gaz away from Geno’s death grip. Silently gesturing to keep the puppet calm before addressing the child.
“Do you know where everyone else is?”
“I-In the forest.” Gaz sniffed.
“Okay, do you think you can find everyone on your own?”
“Uh huh.”
“I need you to go back in then. Geno needs to know you’re safely away from here so he can focus on fighting.”
Gaz looked back up to Geno. The puppet was able to give a very short nod of agreement in his numb stupor.
The Toad turned back to Mario, “You’ll keep Geno safe, right?”
“I’ve been doing well so far. You can trust me.”
That seemed good enough for Gaz as he finally turned to rush back into the foliage.
With that taken care of, Mario’s focused on Geno. Who still hadn’t really moved.
“Hey, Geno, I need you to talk to me.”
Moving slowly, Mario reached out to take Geno’s hands in his own. That caused the puppet to fully jerk out of his stunned silence. Amber eyes taking in his surroundings once more.
“Mario?”
“Hey, yeah, it’s me, you’re okay,” Mario gave a small chuckle, “First time threats are not fun.”
That sent another jolt of remembrance to strike Geno. Who now scanned to find a familiar form. “Gaz, are they-”
“Back in the forest. He’s safe. Think you’re okay to fight?”
Geno looked down at their clasped hands for a moment before addressing Mario.
“Yeah, let’s finally end this.”

"His tears were lovely. They were full of shiny stardust, and left glittering trails down the grooves of his face."
Drew this scene from my own fanfic. The stardust tears were a visual in my head I just had to draw out.

From the “Iggy is Annoying to Some… (and Funny to Others)” Submission Here we have Iggy Koopa giving a comical puppet show to Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Geno, Piantissimo and Amelia/(Mimi).
For those of you who are not familiar with my 11-Part Mario Fanfic, Iggy Koopa went through a redemption arc and became a good guy, (turning against the old ways of his father Bowser). Iggy Koopa was chosen by Mamar, one of the 7 Star-Spirits to be one of the Chosen 7 Heroes to save the world from "The Great Unknown Threat" from another Nintendo series… Iggy was eventually recruited by Geno and now Geno became a mentor for both Iggy and Piantissimo since they were both chosen by the 7 Star-Spirits.
In the picture, Iggy has puppets of both Wario and King Goomboss (The Goomba King) and is entertaining his allies. As Iggy became good, he found a new calling to make others laugh, rather than play mean, harmful pranks from his villain days. (Though, once in a while, he like to do playful, harmless pranks on his allies uncommonly.)
Tumblr media
In my 11-Part Mario fanfic, we have a very sad and worried Iggy Koopa who keeps thinking about his past regrets and hardships.
Previously, Iggy went through a redemption arc and joined the good characters with the Mario crew. He was chosen by Mamar, one of the 7 Star-Spirits chose Iggy to be one of the 7 Chosen Heroes to save the world from The Great Unknown Threat from another Nintendo series.
Iggy regrets all the times he was evil and caused terror under his father's command. Iggy also is saddened that Mario has not been welcoming to him and that Mario does not trust him yet. He's also upset that Piantissimo has been unkind to him, despite how Piantissimo and Iggy are both chosen heroes of the 7 Star-Spirits, mentored by Geno.
Lastly, Iggy fears of being captured by the Koopa Army, his father's army. Bowser now despises his son Iggy for joining the Mario crew and Bowser now labels Iggy as a traitor in the Koopa Kingdom. Bowser has his army to continuously hunt Iggy down until he's found. If the Koopa Army catches Iggy, Bowser will punish Iggy by turning all of Iggy's body but his head into stone and keep him that way for 60 years.
(These are not my characters, Iggy, Mario Luigi, Daisy, Piantissimo, Mimi, Geno and Bowser are the intellectual properties of Nintendo).

How does Geno sleep?
GASP. An inbox ask about something I already can't shut up about? AND an excuse to glow-up some more old art?! 🤩
Tumblr media
In my headcanon:
Badassery notwithstanding, Geno often just sleeps like a sweet little doll. It feels natural and comfortable - after all, long before he ever borrowed it, it spent almost every night sitting like this.
Also, lying down felt a bit too vulnerable for a while. Especially at the beginning of his adventure. In fact, he got a TERRIBLE first impression of anything resembling unconsciousness - so terrible that for his entire first week on the planet, he didn't sleep at all.
And then he discovered sleep is actually… lovely.
Here's a little bullet point story about that! 😊 [oops, it actually got pretty long, haha... hope you enjoy it!]
Geno Versus Sleep
During that first big fight, Bowyer sent a wall of electricity crashing toward ♡♪!? and the two people who had shown up out of the blue to fight by his side. Before it even hit, he knew it would be too much. He heard Mario's shout, Bowyer's mocking laugh, then dimly felt the impact of his borrowed form against the ground.
The next instant, he found himself alone in a blank, dark, starless void. This was new. And… not good. ♡♪!?'s mind was still very much aware, but he couldn't see, hear, feel, perceive anything. All he knew was that he was still in the doll's body.
Then a harrowing realization dawned on him. With almost all of his magic tethered to a body that wasn't working, he didn't have enough left to escape it…
[Continued under the cut]
Seconds later, there came a feeling almost as jarring: a sudden, wild, violent propulsion back into his senses. The first sense to return was a gaggingly sour taste. Then the unmistakable pain of his injuries knitting back together. Then a voice saying "Good morning! You okay?" - then the blurry sight of Mallow's face. Geno was just as disoriented as he had been when he'd first commandeered the doll.
He quickly learned this feeling was a Pick-Me-Up.
Cool.
He inwardly decided to avoid all of that mess involved in being less than conscious - at least when he had a choice in it.
His first full night on the planet, he kept watch all night long. And the second, and the third. Mario and Mallow became increasingly concerned, which Geno only found endearing. Patiently, repeatedly, he put them at ease about his lack of need for sleep.
(He did not mention any other reasons he might be avoiding it. These people had saved him and his mission; no way was he going to get picky about their methods. Besides, even the child could clearly handle these things without complaint. He resolved to do the same.)
He did, however, often feel a specific exhaustion: being low on magic left him dim inside, almost too depleted to maintain his hard-won motor control over his feet and fingers. On any normal day, the Star Road would restore him directly and abundantly, but now he felt this exhaustion more than he ever had. And it was work and expense to use physical consumables to keep himself going.
When he mentioned this inner conflict in passing - masked as appreciation for how much they spent on him - he was quite surprised to learn that for Mario and Mallow, sleep restored their magic. Intriguing.
Resolving to try and save his friends some resources, he finally decided to give sleep a shot on purpose.
Mario and Mallow were both amused to see Geno flop to the floor between their beds like a toy. After several days of watching the serious, otherworldly warrior wreck things ten times his size on the battlefield, it was easy to forget that part - but his limp doll slump against the wall was a clear reminder that his form was still every bit the silly oversized plaything.
"You sure you don't want to lie down?" asked Mallow.
"It's alright. I don't think it makes a difference to this body," said Geno. "Besides… if something happens, I can be on my feet faster."
In his own bed, Mario rolled onto his side toward him and offered a reassuring smile. "If anything happens, we're right here. We'll be in it together."
They turned out the lamp, and Geno tried to relax. He could do this. Piece of cake. He'd been here a week; he'd been able to tolerate feeling trapped in an unconscious body several times. If he had to face that for several hours in one go… well, he'd experienced worse things.
Hadn't he?
What? Yes, of course he had. Stars, what a silly thought. People down here did this every night. Surely he was blowing this way out of proportion. Surely it couldn't possibly be such a -
Geno felt something fluffy brush against him. It was Mallow's hand, wrapping around his. "S'gonna be okay," the kid said, sounding already half in a dream.
Of course. Mallow seemed to have a sixth sense for these things. Geno chuckled softly into the dark, feeling equal parts sheepish and glad for a friend like this. "That's what I'm here to make sure of, my little friend," he redirected anyway, but Mallow was already asleep.
On his other side, he heard his other friend shift. Mario looked quite awake, the shine of his eyes just visible in the starlight through the window. Mario didn't always pick up on Mallow's reactions and what they meant. Had he this time?
Confirming his suspicions, Mario quietly slipped out of his bed and sat next to Geno on the floor.
"Let me guess," Mario whispered conspiratorially, "where you're from, there's always someone alert and guarding, yeah?"
"Yeah," Geno whispered back. "It's what I do."
"Well, who does it for you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Up there, who guards you when you need it?"
Geno was quiet. Mario clearly didn't know his real source of trepidation, but… he'd never specifically considered this question. His unspoken answer was, of course, 'Still me.'
Mario seemed to take his silence as an answer. "Hey, you know what? I'll sit watch tonight."
Geno blinked. "Mario, you really don't have to do that."
"I'm gonna."
"But... you need nightly sleep."
Mario leaned closer to whisper in his ear. "Wanna know how little rest I got when it was just'a me and Mallow? And how much I've gotten for the past week with another actual adult around? It's like having my brother here, but you actually stay awake all night, like - I dunno, almost like you're some kinda star watching over us or something."
Mario's eyes were glistening with humor in the dark. Geno couldn't help a soft chuckle in return, and stopped trying to dissuade his determined friend from his new side mission.
"I can handle one all-nighter. Get some rest… stella dalla testa dura," Mario added under his breath as he got up, a good-natured tease he probably didn't realize Geno understood just fine.
Nice projection there, hard-headed human, Geno thought with affection as his friend sat in the same chair he would have chosen himself, the one next to the window and in full view of the door. He knew it was far from the first time Mario had done any of this… including the unnecessary and probably futile gesture of support at his own expense.
But he was surprised at how much it helped.
Before he even asked it to again, Geno felt his body relax. His eyes drifted closed; his head and shoulders drooped more deeply. The ever-present restlessness in his feet and fingers departed as he realized that, for tonight, he could at least withdraw from the most complicated joints and actually give himself a bit of a break.
Through the wood of his eyelids and chest, ♡♪!? could still see a dreamy, unfocused version of the room. He still had all of his senses. He could still feel Mallow's fluffy hand. The little guy had pulled Geno's entire forearm close to him in his sleep, as if his arm were a doll itself.
Some time later, he heard Mario softly snoring. Geno noticed that he was slumped backward in his chair, his neck at an angle even he recognized as uncomfortable. He sorted himself back into his body. As he got up, Mallow made a little sound and clutched his arm more tightly; Geno carefully detached it at the elbow.
By this point he knew that, if woken, Mario would only be embarrassed and more doggedly committed to staying awake. So instead, he tucked a pillow behind his friend's head, and covered him with his bed's left-behind blanket. Then he quietly sank to the floor next to Mallow again, plugging his arm back into his socket so the little guy wouldn't get a scare when he next awoke.
He relaxed his head and limbs again, letting the sounds of his sleeping companions soothe him, until… finally… he felt it. The magic of this world, barely perceptible. It was always there in the living things, the trees and flowers and mushrooms and people, so strong in his friends, and now it was slowly suffusing every part of him that he'd allowed to relax.
He knew that at its deepest root it was the same old, deep source of magic as that of the stars. But down here it was slower, gentler; less of a fiery focused precision, more of a flowing peace just out of sight.
Feeling at ease at last, he surrendered control, for the first time head to toe, purposefully, completely. The gentle flow of magic coursed like water through his cooling chest… pleasantly ran through the starlight fringe of his spirit like a caring hand through hair.
What a gift of an experience sleep is... he thought contentedly. Yes, I think I'll be able to handle this indeed.
Bonus headcanons:
With his action figure joints, Geno can technically lock his knees and sleep standing up like some kind of weird horse. He doesn't, though. That would freak people out.
At some point in their adventure, Geno somehow acquires the ability to snore. It sounds like creaking. Because it IS creaking. Geno somehow cannot hear himself do this, and genuinely thinks they're all making a joke he doesn't quite get. Finally, Mario, with his assortment of handyman skills that include carpentry, does the rest of the party a favor and gets some graphite and wax into Old Man Geno's joints.
The first time Princess Peach uses star magic (Come Back) to revive Geno, he's absolutely awestruck. He wonders if she has the slightest idea how much sheer potential she has. Here's a big long headcanon of mine about that, with some art!

i needed a size chart for my comic.
i don't have exact measurements of these guys, but I'm gonna say Geno's barely 5' or somewhere a bit below and the others can be comparable from there.
Kamek would be Gaz' height if he were hunched over with a shell. fun fact was that i never thought about whether or not he had a shell when i began the first comic and then at the last chapter, i threw in a sloppy fanon that it broke somehow, and used his magic to survive without it, but it came at the cost of giving so much upper body strength that he stands completely upright.
Mallow and Gaz were 13 and 8 when they met during the smithy incident and are now 23 and 18 respectively. They've been best friends since they first met. Gaz is around the same height as his mother.
Geno is the king of small here. SMRPG as a game kind of gave everyone except bowser same-height syndrome, so having him relatively small to signify that his human form was based on the doll was what I was going for here.
As for Fawful, I made him tall in the original fanfic back in 2004 and I just refused to change that when I rebooted the story as a comic in 2010. i just didn't feel like it
maybe i'll do a full color of this in the future as i do need to make some key art of all the main characters.
I don't even know if Margie (jellyfish girl) is gonna be in the comic. It was gonna be ifool canon that as much as she and Fawful stay in contact after he leaves Beanbean, they don't actually see each other in person again for at least several years.
of course, that was way before i thought "hey, this would be an interesting mutually-aroace ship idea" so who knows what'll happen.

Hi friends!! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while: since I don’t, as of yet, post my work on AO3 or anywhere else besides here, I wanted to get together a collection of my writing. I will keep this post current, so if you are looking at this from a reblog, be aware that it might not be up to date unless you visit the original post!
This isn’t everything I’ve written in my life, of course, but it’s everything that lives here. I have much older stuff that I might port over here gradually if I decide I’m still happy with it.
Nothing I write is too explicit, but it sometimes may deal with body horror, injury, death, and distressing themes such as depression and suicidal ideation. Content warnings are given on individual posts.
Fanfics are collected into general fandom categories below. Thanks to anyone who’s ever read, commented on and enjoyed my work!
Super Mario RPG
I first played SMRPG over half of my lifetime ago, but it never really captured my imagination until the remake came out. Being older, I felt like I was in a better spot to appreciate some of its more subtle themes, and became enamored with the Smithy Gang in particular. I haven't written all that much yet, but I'd like to do more.
The Forging - A Spear is born.
Smithy Gang Headcanons - My personal timeline and background from which I hope to eventually build more ideas.
Mack/Claymorton Headcanons
Mario + Rabbids
This is the fandom that brought me back to tumblr and got me to stick around, and also got me writing on my own again after ages of drought. Years ago I would have never believed that rabbids would get me to write so much, but here I am, and I’m grateful for it!
Most of these so far are about Woodrow and Palette Prime more generally, because that’s where my brain lives, and the catastrophe poet is very special to my heart. I’ll eventually branch out more though, I swear.
I write a bunch of Phandrow (Phantom x Woodrow) stuff specifically; it started out with me trying to justify a crackship to my own brain and then whoops! I became obsessed
Of Verses and Curses
My magnum opus of fanfics, as of yet, and the longest work of fiction I have written independently in my life, this is a story of finding the person who loves you even if your passion in life seems to only bring failure and misfortune. It’s a deeply personal story built off a lot of my own feelings and struggles. It’s also a story about two gay rabbids who have never canonically met. [Phantom x Woodrow, also includes plenty of Dryad x Sweetlopek]
Chapter One
Chapter Two
Chapter Three
Chapter Four
Chapter Five
Chapter Six
Chapter Seven
Chapter Eight
Chapter Nine
Chapter Ten
Chapter Eleven
Chapter Twelve
Chapter Thirteen
Epilogue
Music of the Night
The dark inverse to Of Verses and Curses, set in the Sparks of Despair AU created by @pastelprince18, this is a far more upsetting tale of doomed love and unhappy endings. There is a monster at the end of this book.
(Body horror warning, especially at the end, so just be aware before you get invested.)
Chapter One - In Sleep He Sang to Me
Chapter Two - Do I Dream Again?
Chapter Three - Our Strange Duet
Chapter Four - To Glance Behind
Chapter Five - Those Who Have Seen Your Face
Chapter Six - Where Night is Blind
Chapter Seven - Angel of Music
Other Woodrow or Phandrow stuff
Bwahstrella’s Warning - an exploration of what might happen when you push the galaxy’s own disaster poet to the heights or the depths of his passion. [Phantom x Woodrow]
Poetry Slammed - Sweetlopek’s perspective of a certain boat incident. [Sweetlopek and Woodrow, platonic]
Happy Phandrow Things - not really a fanfic so much as a collection of thoughts/headcanons but they make me happy so they’re going here, gosh darnit!
The Eulogist - Woodrow necromancer AU. Not sure I need to say more than that. [character death and slight body horror warning]
Wolf of the Woods - An exploration of a Werewolf Woodrow AU! While not much in itself, people liked it; not only did it spearhead a lot of fun discussion/art, but it’s pretty much what got me writing again and therefore led to EVERYTHING above!
Unmerged - Not really a fic, but an exploration of an idea that makes me too sad to think about too much D:
An Appeal to the Heavens - In a time long past, a poor poet makes a desperate plea to the god he yearns to serve.
Pocket Poet, Part 1 | Part 2 - my one exploration of the Borrower AU: tiny Woodrow experiences the theatrical world of his lover, up close and personal.
Non-Woodrow Stuff (wtf, it DOES exist)
Something from Nothing - before we really knew what the Tower of Doooom was about, we had thoughts. Unhappy thoughts. [featuring Spawny and extra-evil Phantom]
M+R Timeline Analysis - Not a fic, but some background on how I view this universe.
Tools of the Traitors - A mini Super Paper Mario crossover between Kanya and Dimentio.
The High Seas AU
Sirens and Soliloquys - a pirate poet who bears a curse in secret is tempted by a siren's song, and gets more than he could have possibly imagined as a result.
Further worldbuilding and character background ideas for the AU!
Sea Legs - just a little more Phandrow silly sweetness
The Vampire [Phanpire?] AU
A Phandrow-centric AU that really speaks for itself, collaboratively created. Usually Phantom is the vampire and Woodrow his willing prey, but sometimes the roles are reversed, sometimes the ""victim"" is Prima Donna (Phantom's drag persona), sometimes they're both vampires- look, we like to have fun here.
As a general warning, pretty much anything in this collection will deal with blood and mild injury.
A Bite for Good Luck - my starting point for this AU, and its companion piece from Tom's perspective.
Burning Like The Sunrise - a little prequel to the above. A tale of passion at first bite.
One Paw in the Grave - Woodrow learns just how vulnerable a vampire can be.
Bat's Eye View - A vampire shows his beloved the world as he sees it.
Batsong - Lord Phan runs into misfortune; but thankfully, it's only of a rather amusing kind.
Various Vampire Phandrow Ideas: A Duet | The Lord's Protection | Thoughts on Sleep | Something More Than Blood | Nothing Wasted | Paeans to Prima Donna | Sacred Anatomy
Donkey Kong/Banjo-Kazooie/Rare-Playtonic Universe
A Donkey Kong’s World - this is a narrative record of the homebrew D&D campaign I was in, and includes elements from all of the things mentioned above, as well as Sea of Thieves and the Mario series. I’m including it here because not only was I involved as one of the characters, but I actually novelized most of the whole story (taking over from our DM who did the first few chapters) based on our session recordings. It was an extremely special experience for me, and is quite a long read, but if you’re a big fan of any of these franchises I think you might enjoy coming along with us. [Link is external and goes to the forum where the story is hosted.]
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga (+ Bowser’s Minions)
These are years old, from before my tumblr hiatus, so they may not be quite up to my current standards... but I still like them.
Anamnesis - While Popple and Rookie plan their biggest heist yet, Rookie tries to remember who he is... and almost does.
Wallflower - In the quiet moments, Captain Shy Guy realizes just how much he cares about that silly Goomba... [Captain Shy Guy x Captain Goomba]
The Stolen Birthday - a little headcanon for a Popple backstory.
That’s all for now!!

Since I played the SMRPG remake, I'm now thinking back on the game that became my next hyperfixation from that era: FFTactics. Like Mario RPG, I played the everloving bejeezus out of this game! I maxed out the game clock! Ramza was like 48 years old by the end of it (okay maybe not THAT old)!
But I know if I went back and did a proper playthrough now, my "read" on it would be completely different (I'm way too embarrassed to go into detail about my takes and the resulting fanfic I did as a 13 year-old LMAO). Also I'd like to give the PSP version a fair go; I actually own the game, but unfortunately my PSP battery is looking, well, a bit... Puffy. 😬 (Yes we are disposing of it safely)
Also, due to visual issues I often have with these little handhelds, I might try to (LOUD WHISPERING) rip the UMD and emulate it on my PC so I can at least see the blasted thing without headaches. 🤫 It's legal if its your own disc, right? Right???
I don't know why but I've been thinking specifically about Meliadoul and her brother Izlude, and how like... the latter half of the game becomes (at least in some small part) about avenging his demise. Sad stuff. I love Matsuno's stories.

everyone: now that smrpg is being remade maybe nuke will stop talking about her extremely weird and cringe "smash bros" fanfic where she's on an adventure with geno and magolor
me, now, empowered by remakes of both of those freaks' games: WHAT WOULD I LOOK LIKE IF I HAD GENO AND MAGOLOR SPIRIT AT THE SAME TIME AND HAD BOTH THEIR MAGICAL POWERS WITH THE COOLEST CAPE
