I saw an interesting post the other day about concerns straying far from canon when making fanworks, and then i look back on my 14-year Fawful project as it strayed farther and farther from god every page.

I'm pretty sure that even back then, I wanted to do something different. I was one of the most unpopular nobodies in the M&L fandom and the comic only attracted a niche audience, so it gave me freedom to make the most weird and nonsensical character design takes and headcanons that could possibly be put on the table, and now i hold them all to heart and draw them and talk about them way more than their canon versions.

You can say "why not make this an OC project instead", but anyone who's followed both my comics already saw that Highly Experimental sorta started as an ifool oc spiritual successor and kinda became its own thing

anyway. The production of iFool's final chapter came during the era of a very specific being trigger-happy with shutting down fan projects and tournaments. It's never hit the fanart/comic scene, for now, anyway, and since then, I've been super happy with the comic having strayed so far from canon accuracy because i can avoid big n shutting me down if they ever decide to go after fancomics XD

hot artists don't gatekeep

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

malViolence's first anniversary is today!

Yup, you read that correctly.

Today, malViolence is 1 year old. How fast time flies...

On my end, things have been chaotic; with moving to a new state (still in progress), seeking full-time employment, and juggling a bevy of freelance work. I don't think I've been this overwhelmed in a while.

Still, I do have a few new things to share for the Violence series, which I'll list below:

malViolence and protoViolence are now available on the JAST USA store! If you've played a lot of visual novels, you've probably heard of JAST USA; famous for publishing legendary titles like Full Metal Daemon Muramasa, YOU and ME and HER: A Love Story, or Saya No Uta. It's surreal (in a good way) to have the Violence series stand by their side, and I hope our future entries can reach similar heights.

protoViolence will receive a new voice-acting patch in 2024!  As promised, Dr. Tan and Shriya's voices have been cast. Please welcome Darling DonutCat as Shriya, and returning voice actor Adoxographist as Dr. Angela Tan! They're a talented, hard-working pair, and I look forward to sharing their full contributions sometime this year.

As for the future of the Violence series... I've written a thread about it on my Twitter. 

But for now, thank you for supporting Cautionne's story for an entire year! Your kind, encouraging words have kept my team and I going, and we hope to make even better work in the future.

I'll also tell you a funny thing about the NPC- I actually never looked at a single reference of her this whole time. I just remembered tiny jellyfish kid with a red ribbon, assumed she was a kid, and aged her up along with fawful (absolute coincidence). It wasn't until I linked to the wiki article in one of her last appearnances that I realized I was EXTREMELY off-model with her and figured she might as well be an OC at this point.

And she was definitely referred to her as "margie" in the production notes as short for "Merri and Gigi's sister", but she will always be known as Margie now

As for the sprite, I think the yellow bit is an apron, as spa/salon workers wear aprons, but i could be wrong. it looks like a dangerously cheezy dorito! XD

I drew Margie!! OC belonging to @cammiluna I love how your designs are very simple and easy to draw, yet look iconic, I did struggle with the hair but I figured it out >:D While I was drawing her I was wondering what the inspiration for the OC looked like because I completely forgot about the receptionist in SS, and when I saw them I was like. AH--not what expected why is she baby??

This led me to draw this for funsies, do you think this is what Margie looked like when she was younger? Anyways much prefer your interpretation! You should ramble to me about her and Fawful someday I vant le loreeee

This is a sketchbook that I've kept at my work desk to draw during my shifts if i was in a phone call with a customer that either entitledly nagged about something or needed five minutes to look up their account number
