The first thing Gilbert sees is a singular, ominously yellow Converse, sitting overturned in the middle of the empty street. As they get closer he can see that the sole is stained red with blood, though little actually remains. Most of it has been left on the street, in a line of footprints that leads back and over the small hill in the road.

Maybe he should turn around when he sees it – he should turn around and call the police like he’d been contemplating, because as the seconds pass it becomes less and less likely that Anne is playing some sort of practical joke, and more like somebody is dead.

Betwixt the stars

I am currently addicted to MrsVonTrapp stories on the AOGG side of ffnet, and especially this beautiful and so ambitious one : Betwixt the Stars.

“In this modern AU, a present day Anne begins to experience very realistic dreams of incidences in another life nearly a century and a half before. Is it her imagination or a remembered reality? Is she tied to the past life of her ancestor and namesake Anne Shirley? Does love carry on through the ages?”

A reincarnation AU! 

She writes a fascinating gallery of characters, and especially Anne Ford & David Blythe (our modern Anne & Gilbert in this story) in a very intricate storyline.

“He was uncertain how long he had remained, unmoving, half hidden by the dappled shade at the edge of the grove of maples in the wild clearing that had always been known, within the family at least, as Rainbow Valley. He only became properly aware of time passing when his left leg began to ache in protest, and his dry throat felt tight and scratchy in the heat. He usually felt uncomfortable with inaction, preferring to always be occupied, whether it be in physical or mental pursuits, but the unexpected view before him had been so startlingly surprising he had stopped up short, and there had remained, standing awkwardly, crippled by uncharacteristic indecision. October 2023 Wrap Up

We did it, Joe. We finally fucking caught up. I know I'm being ridiculous and these monthly wrap up posts don't really matter to anyone but me, but I actually could not proceed without doing them. Could not dive into my waiting pile of fanfic without coming back to do these. It's been weighing on me all fucking year and now, with two months left, I am finally at peace. Thank fuck, because this has taken me a truly ungodly amount of hours. Like over a full day of work. And I'm feeling a bit like a feral racoon, if I'm being honest.

Fanfiction Wrapped - 2022

So, last year when I got my Spotify Wrapped, I had this idea of doing something similar just with fanfiction because 2021 was a year in which I read a lot of fanfiction, enough for it to amount to a substantial part of my reading.

So, starting in 2022 I started maintaining a list of all fanfiction read. I initially planned to do this for every quarter of the year but that didn't pan out so here we are at the end of the year.

I'm a reader and I read a lot but 2022 was the first year in which I read more fanfiction than books. I read 122 books against 195 fanfics. I read a whopping 3,065,648 words written by fanfiction authors and I thank you all for the wonderful time I had this year reading your fics.

My Fandoms

So, in 2022 I read fics from 11 fandoms and the breakdown is as follows:

The Cherik fandom was absolutely what got me through 2022. Whenever I needed anything to get my mind off things or cheer myself up, I found myself a Cherik fanfic and like magic, my mood improved. I'm a little late to this party but now that I'm here I'm not leaving!

The second fandom that I read a lot of fanfics in was the YiZhan fandom which is an RPF fandom. I know it isn't for everyone but I discovered the works of fireflavoredwhiskey who was hands down the most prolifically read fanfic author of 2022 for me.

The second most prolifically read fanfic author was ikeracity whose Cherik fanfics are very popular in that fandom and for good reason.

Interestingly enough the first fic I read was a YiZhan one and the last fic I read in the year 2022 was a Cherik one.

New Fandoms

2022 was the year of fanfic for me because I read a lot of fanfic in fandoms I discovered this very year.

Everlark - the fanfiction pairing between Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen which led me to discover their ship name for the first time was a first-time fandom for me. My interest in this pairing increased following my re-read and re-watch of The Hunger Games books and movies this year and I'm glad I did.

Shirbert - the pairing between Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe was an unexpected joy. I re-read all the Anne of Green Gables books this year and finally read 'The Blythes are Quoted' which led me to watch the show 'Anne with an E' a TV adaptation of 'Anne of Green Gables' and after watching the show I had the best time delving into Shirbert fanfic.

Ikersi - After watching 'The Eternals' this year, I fell in love with the movie but especially with the relationship between Ikaris and Sersi. I literally love the movie and the paring and I did my fair share of squealing over that fact on tumblr.

Surprisingly, the majority of my first-time fandoms this year feature het couples which is a new thing for me. I have also come to realise how vastly different the treatment of queer pairings is to straight ones in fanfiction. It was a sea change for me.

Of course, my biggest fandom this year - Cherik, was also a new fandom for me but I have read so much of it that it really doesn't feel like it.

Gallavich - My last first-time fandom for this year was Gallavich featuring Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich from Shameless!

Conclusion

I had a blast this year and I hope this momentum continues. Given the number of Cherik and WangXian fics on my radar this year, it's a pretty sure bet though I don't believe I will have a more prolific fanfiction year than 2022, at least not in the near future.

COMING SOON - So, over the next couple of days, I plan to share my favourite fics from the fandoms I read from this year. I really love fic recs because they help point me in the direction of fics I end up loving but are hard to find if you are sorting through all the works by yourself. So, in the hopes of helping someone just like me there are going to be lots of fic recs in the coming days.

The pretty lights, one: shirbert series one

She said, "I was seven and you were nine"

I looked at you like the stars that shine

A whistle, low and as if meant to be whispered, meant for only one's ears, floated through the orchard. It's owner grinned, sly eyes going up and down as he surveyed the tree before him, and the little figure hidden within its extensive branches.

The figure gasped lowly, and tried-- not so subtly-- to move out of his view. The boy, nine, chuckled as he stepped forward slowly, "I wonder where... carrots is," he bellowed, stepping aside as soon as an apple was-- surely-- thrown in his direction, whether it by accident or intentionally meant to hurt him (he'd go with the latter). "How lovely, an apple just for me. De-licious. Thank you, tree, for your welcoming gif-- ouch!"

A sniffle was heard, another apple had fallen, this time directly onto his head.

"That's it," he murmured, rolling his eyes at his friend's childish behavior. After all, he was much wiser than her. By two whole years! And Christopher Columbus, what a whole lot a difference it made, those two years.

Gilbert fastened the bag of treasure he had with him (chocolates! just for her!) to his belt, and with ease proceeded to climb the tree before him. He'd gotten to where he needed to be without alerting her, as Anne had jumped and almost hit head on the branch above after he, swiftly, plopped himself beside her.

Anne quickly turned her head so he wouldn't see, but he caught the persistent tear which slid down her face, and saw the reddened nose he had gotten so used to seeing growing up beside her.

He, gently (as he had learned from his mistakes) tugged at the end of her braid, hair becoming a fiery halo around her small face, to get her attention. "Anne..."

...

"Anne-girl"

...

"I got you some buried treasure..." Anne somewhat perked up at this, although her face was still buried in the log of the tree. "Well, it was technically buried far into the cabinet, but its definitely something you'll love..."

A sniffle.

"No?" Gilbert sighed, unfastening his bags of goods, pulling a piece of chocolate out, "Alright, guess I'll have to just eat the chocolate myself.

And before he could devour the goodness held in his hand, it was swiped faster than he could scream a no, and stuffed into the face of the red nosed girl, who grinned apprehensively as she swallowed what she had stolen.

Gilbert was not impressed, but the look in her eyes quickly fixed that.

"So... wanna talk about it?"

"...erm, it's just stupid Josie," she murmured.

"What'd she do now...?"

The sky quickly darkened, little lights filled up the sky, twinkling every now and then, something which caused a smile to light up Anne's face, as she recounted her tales of trouble to her older, and much wiser friend.

Gilbert, at some point, had stopped listening. The only thing on that little boy's mind, all who he could think of was... well you know who.

Welcome to tumblr 👋 I hope you find many Anne of Green Gables Fans :) (also sorry this has taken me half a week to answer)

I can give you some tips for tumblr, but I'm not sure if I'm the best person to ask how to post fic, since I'm not a writer. I only post gif sets or edits, and that is besides how to use tags a little different. You might want to ask someone that has more knowledge of fic posting than me. You also might get yourself an AO3 Account, since you probably get more exposure for your fics than just posting on here. You might also try looking into the #myfic or #my fic tag here on tumblr, it's a tag that a lot of fan fiction writers use.

And I'm pretty sure ppl still read Anne of Green Gables Fanfiction :) If you post Anne of Green Gables Fic, you can tag dailyshirbert if you have Anne Shirley, Gilbert Blythe or Shirbert in it.

As for general tips:

You should probably get yourself an Icon and Header. If you follow people and your blog is empty, ppl generally think you're a bot and some will probably block you. (I've seen that you've already rebloged a few posts, so ppl might not block you, but it's always better to seem like a person than a bot, if you change the generic tumblr header and icon) If you go into settings you can change everything from color to icon to header and title. As for Headers and Icons I've posted and rebloged a few AOGG ones on Dailyshirbert x x x if you would like those. You could also just use nature, animal, architecture, ppl or other pics, the best place for those would probably be unsplash.

Be sure to reblog and not just like posts. If you follow ppl and they see posts that they can relate to or see shows/films they like themselves, they're usually more likely to follow you than if your blog is empty. You'll also probably more easily get mutuals and make friends :) You can also just like posts, but many ppl just use them for saving post to queue for later.

You might also look into the #newbies #new users for other tips how to use tumblr. There are probably a lot of tips that are better explained than what I've just written lol.

In the end just have fun, post or like whatever you like :)

well, i’m trying to make some kind of wonderful into my byler fic but i’m trying to add jealousy on mike’s side and queer el all while trying to recreate will driving mike and el around on a date. i got an oc in this thing. a fuxking cousin of max that is gay and flirts with will and how is that giving your favorite ‘80s movie carmen? it’s not. you just want mike to get jealous because you love that trope in your fics.
