In your arms
Rowaelin moth - Day 15 - Bad day
This is set in the Island Dreams AU.
This fic is basically three years after the wedding scene and somewhere before the epilogue which is 5 years later.
Aelin had a bad day at the hospital and Rowan looks after her.
Tumblr media
Aelin loved her job. A lot. When she got offered the job of senior emergency surgeon she had been ecstatic, especially after the London drama. She had many years of experience in a big trauma centre in London and a hospital on the islands would never be any close to the madness of the capital. There were days though, when a smaller sized hospital showed just how difficult it could get.
That was one of those days. She and Malcolm had been running around the A&E non stop directing the show and supervising the treatments. They had victims of a car crash happened just outside Stornoway, two different patients airlifted from two different locations with sever injuries, and on top of that the usual influx of people. Her day had got even worse when a 3 years old girl was brought in after an extreme allergic reaction to something she ate. According to the mother’s tale she had started having trouble breathing very quickly after the ingestion of the food. By the time the girl was brought in she had already been without oxygen for too long. Her heart had stopped beating soon after. Aelin had stood near the mother and tried to comfort the woman who had gone in shock herself at the sudden loss of her daughter.
Once free again she had rushed to the toilet and emptied the contents of her stomach. Then sat on the bathroom floor and cried. It did not help that she was pregnant and hormonal. The girl’s death had hit her badly.
Her two girls, Freyja and Morrigan were the same age as the girl she had lost. The idea of losing them was so painful that would just send her into a full panic attack.
And now she and Rowan had decided to give it a go and add another member to their family. After months of trying they were finally successful and they now had a boy on his way.
Slowly she made her way back into her office and plopped heavily in her chair, her head in her hands while tears still run down her cheeks.
She picked up her mobile and phoned the one person who could help her.
Rowan picked up immediately.
“Missing your husband this much?” His voice cheery, but her chest tightened and more sobs broke through.
“Aelin, are you okay?” He asked her when he heard her sobbing over the phone.
“I just…” her voice broken “I just lost a three year old girl.”
Rowan was silent for a moment probably looking at the twins who she knew were at the bookshop with him.
“How?”
Aelin sobbed once more “anaphylactic shock.”
“What can I do?”
“Nothing. I just needed to hear your voice.”
A moment later she heard a girl’s voice and realised that Freyja had rushed to Rowan and now wanted to talk to her mum.
Aelin spoke to her daughter for a bit until she stated that she had to go back slaying the dragon.
“How have they been?”
Rowan chuckled “Morrigan has been playing quietly on the mat and coloured a couple of pages of her book.” He sighed “Freyja in the meantime has slain three dragons, saved a prince in distress, went on a quest to find the perfect marker and now is helping me tidy the books in the history section. If she sits down for five minutes I call it a success.”
A small chuckle left Aelin. Their daughters were identical physically, but they were complete opposite when it came to behaviour. Morrigan was like Rowan, calm and quiet. Freyja was a hurricane. Constantly moving and full of energy.
“You could have left them with my mum.”
“Ach, mo chridhe, you know I love having them in the shop. I had a busy day and Freyja just loves to charm the customer with her babbling.”
After a moment of silence Rowan spoke again “how are you two?”
Aelin’s hand went to her stomach “baby and I are fine. The nausea today is not too bad.”
“You need to take it easy.”
Aelin huffed “I worked when I was pregnant with the twins, surely I can manage with just one tenant.”
“I know, but remember what Yrene said.”
“Tha.” She replied. She had been taking Gaelic lessons for a while now, especially because they had decided to raise their daughters to be bilingual, so Aelin had been putting effort in it. But her progress had been slower than she expected and she was still very shy in showing off her language skills.
In that moment her pager went off and she groaned. It was definitely one of those days “Ro, I need to go. Give a kiss to the girls.”
“Will do.”
“Love you.”
“Love you too, fireheart.”
She hung up and ran outside, ready for more drama and a shift that didn’t seem to end. Malcolm met her halfway Accident in a farm. Crush injuries and chemical burns.”
“This day just gets better and better,” she grabbed the protective gown he passed and while walking to the the A&E she donned the gear.
***
It was later than expected when she did manage to leave the hospital. It really had been the day from hell and all she wanted to do was curl on the sofa in Rowan’s arms while watching the twins play.
She stepped in the house and was quite taken aback by the silence. Their house was never quiet.
“Rowan?” She called, while dumping her messenger bag at the entrance and shedding shoes and jacket “Ro?”
He appeared a moment later with a towel around his waist and Aelin blamed the hormones because in that moment all she wanted to do was to jump him, but with the girls around that was a treat that would have to wait.
“Taking showers without me?” Seeing him in front of her, washed away the tension and the stress of a horrible day.
Rowan opened his arms for her and Aelin crashed in his embrace, his lips kissing the crown of her head.
“Where are the girls?”
“With your mum.” He explained “I thought that after the bad day you had, you could do with some peace and quiet and some care from your husband.” He took her hand and walked upstairs to their bathroom. He opened the door and Aelin gasped. The lights were off but there were candles all around the tub, which in turn was filled with bubbles and foam and Aelin could smell her favourite bath salts.
“I just thought you and I could relax…”
Aelin threw her arms around his neck and kissed him “you really are the man of my dreams.”
He kissed her back and then his hands started to rover along her body “but first… we need to get you out of these clothes…” he whispered and turned her so that her back was against his chest. Slowly he removed her shirt and then the trousers, his hand caressing her bump that had started to show. He then unclasped her bra and soon after her knickers were gone too. Aelin turned in his arms and begged for a kiss he did not deny her.
“You are stunning.” He said softly while his lips teased her neck.
Aelin in response snorted “I will be a stranded whale again, some of the weight I gained from the twins never left me and I have horrible stretch marks. Seriously, you need glasses.”
Rowan’s kiss deepened and her legs went weak. After three years of marriage he still had that power over her.
“You are gorgeous. And those marks are proof of the amazing job you did to bring our girls into the world. They don’t bother me.”
She seemed to believe him and hugged against his chest “sorry,” a small sob broke from her lips “It was such a horrible shift today.”
“Shhh…” Rowan took her hand “nothing a bath with your husband won’t solve.”
Rowan slowly climbed in the big tub and then took her hand for her to follow him.
She sat against his chest, water lapping against her skin. She dunked her head under the water and then leaned it against his shoulder. Rowan grabbed some shampoo and slowly started massaging her scalp.
“This is perfect,” she moaned and Rowan kissed her neck, while his hand trailed down her arms in gentle caresses “just relax in my arms, I am here for you. Let me take care of you.”
Aelin closed her eyes and let the feel of him wash away the dreadful day she had. The pain, the anguish and the fears.
“Thank you for always being at my side. For being my rock.”
Rowan gently kissed her head “when I married you I promised I would be at your side in difficult times…” his hands covered her bump “You are my everything and making sure that you are fine after a dreadful shift goes under my job of husband.”
Her head turned slightly and kissed the length of his neck.
“At our wedding I also promised chocolate cake and, after we finish our bath, I have it ready for you.”
“Good,” she whispered while turning and straddling him. When they fixed up the house they got a bathtub large enough that would allow them to have some fun in it.
“Aelin…” his warning tone. She knew he was not keen on them having sex while she was pregnant, no matter how many times Yrene had told them it was okay.
“I thought you said you’d do anything to make me happy…” her hands slipped under the water and gripped him “your wife is asking you to help her forget.”
At those words he caved because knowing she was okay and happy was all he cared about.
And slowly, in her husband’s arms Aelin forgot about death and pain and only felt his love… healing.
In his arms, love pushed away all the pain.

                                Chapter 8: Pluto
Life with Spencer wasn’t easier but it sure was better.
It had been about 9 months now since the two of you started dating and you knew it would be rough. The two of you traveled a lot for work so it was a lot of missed calls, texts, and video chats in the beginning but now you’d say the two of you got a grip on what you both wanted which was each other. Around month 6, Spencer asks you to move in with him. At first you say no, and you keep saying no until around month 8 when Spencer gets shot on the job and you take care of him and just never leave. Not that he was complaining, it was what he’s wanted since Month 2.
You met the team officially and without impending danger around month 2 as well. Emily and Derek who you already knew through the investigation welcomed you back with open arms and tequila shots at the bar you met them at. JJ took a while to warm up to you which you completely understood from how you left but she warmed up to you when she realized just how much you loved Spencer and how much you regretted pushing him away.
You and Penelope Garcia got along like a house on fire which everyone expected the two genius women to. Though her sunny, social disposition and your quiet, mellow one didn’t mix on paper pretty soon you guys were trading baked goods and having sleepovers. It was nice, you never had girl friends you could be yourself around but you found that in them.
Spencer was still Spencer.
In some ways, he was still the man you met in the observatory of your job, and in some ways he was very different. He was definitely a lot more touchy than you thought he’d be, seemingly unable to be in the same room as you without touching you in some way. Not that that was unwelcome, you loved him all the same. He was still that nerdy guy who whenever he read something or found out something new about your field he’d call you up and immediately to tell you about it. And you would sit and listen intently, never having the heart to tell him it was something you already knew. You liked to hear him talk anyway.
You still found out a couple of things too. One being that Spencer gets extremely jealous and you found this out around Month 7 of your relationship, your first official fight. He had come to surprise you at work and you were helping the new Doctor hired on the Terra-Mora project get acclimated with the space. You didn’t think anything of the guy other than he was overly friendly but when Spencer came in and saw the fairly attractive man lingering a hand on your back he became livid.
The car ride home was awkward because you could tell something was up with Spencer though he wasn’t saying anything. “What’s wrong?” You asked.
“Nothing, bunny.” He says, you can’t help the smile that crosses  your face at the nickname but you knew there was something wrong.
“Okay so there has to be something up. So out with it.”
He’s silent for a moment. “How’s working with Dr. Sutton?”
“Landon?” You ask. He gives you a look when you refer to the man by first name but you choose to ignore it.  “It’s fine. He’s better at math and he’s been nice.”
“Bet he has.” Spencer mutters under his breath.
“Ok, what is that?” You ask.
“Why did you just call him Landon just now?”
“His name is Landon….?”
“Every person you work with you refer to as Doctor, you even refer to yourself as Dr. L/N when talking about work.” He points out. “In fact, the only other person you didn’t do that for was Jonathan, who you had feelings for. So why is he ‘Landon’?”
“He asked me to call him Landon.” You shrug. “You almost sound jealous, Spence.” You can’t help the small chuckle that leaves you when you say it because it was ridiculous to even think about. You loved Spencer. You couldn’t imagine your life without him or even fathom wanting anyone but him but when you saw the look he gave you back when you said it you knew that was exactly the case.
“You wanna tell me what this is actually about now?” You question.
“Why didn’t you say I was your boyfriend?” He whispers.
“What?” You say, confused. You park the car in front of your apartment and turn fully towards Spencer.
“You didn’t say I was your boyfriend, you called him Landon…”
“Baby, I didn’t even realize I didn’t do that.” You say, looking into his eyes. “If I did it’s because everyone knows who you are.” You say, cupping the side of his face with one of your hands, he instantly leans into the touch. “My genius boyfriend, who works for the FBI and saved my life. I talk about you constantly because I am happy and proud to be yours. That you still took a chance on me even though I pushed you away and treated you like shit in the beginning. I am never trying to hide you and you have no reason to be jealous because I don’t see anyone else when I’m with you, ok?” You say, Spencer smiles and leans over the center console to kiss you and just like every time Spencer kisses you, you contemplate the likelihood that the earth could stop its rotation because it seemed that the world stood still every time you were together like this. When you pulled away, you leaned your forehead against Spencers for a second, catching your breath.
“Plus you really have no reason to be jealous.” You add. “Me and Landon spent most of the morning talking about our boyfriends.”
Spencer looks at you with a wide eyed expression. “You mean, he’s--”
“Yup.” You cut off. Getting out of the car, Spencer follows you. “You should get jealous more though. It’s kinda hot.” You shrug. Spencer rolls his eyes at you.
-----------------------------------------------------
On your one year anniversary, you go to your first date spot which was the Planetarium. You rolled your eyes at the time when Spencer suggested the date saying that you’d both just end up annoying the tour guide. In the end, you ended up with a 16  year old named Anna, who had the same twinkle in her eye when she talked about Space that you had as a child. You ended up shushing Spencer every now and again so you could listen to the young girl tell you about the planets you both knew so much about. At the end of the tour, you told her who you were and that if she wanted an internship at NASA after high school to give you a call. She smiled excitedly at you and hugged you, which you returned before apologizing profusely for hugging you. When you and Spencer were walking to get food after that he asked the question.
“Do you want kids?” He says.
“Whoa!” You laugh. “Big ask for a first date.”
“I’m sorry, you were just so cute with the tour guide that--It’ll come up eventually is all.”
“I do want kids someday.” You say, smiling at the man. “I never thought it was in the cards for me but I would love kids someday. What about you?”
“I never thought it was in the cards for me either but I like the idea of having a family.” He says, reaching for your hand. You smile at him again and the topic never comes back up.
You guys head to the Planetarium again and Anna is still working there, finishing up her senior year. She lets you guys venture around without a guide this time and you and Spencer just sit in the auditorium alone, talking softly at the fake constellations that pass by.
After, you ask if you guys can skip dinner to go to the observatory just to see if you can get a peak at Gaia tonight as the sky seemed pretty clear. Spencer smiles and obliges you as the two of you head over to your job. The night security guard just nods at the two of you as you walk in, having come accustomed to your late nights and Spencer accompanying you.
Spencer sits a ways while you set everything up, booting up your computer and positioning your telescope. The two of you settle into a comfortable silence as you often did around each other. You felt slightly bad, it was your anniversary and Spencer was indulging you just like always. He was really way too good for you. You look up at him and smile, which he instantly returns before you turn your attention to the telescope.
That’s when you see it.
Gaia.
Fully visible from earth for the first time in what could have been a millennium.
You scream out of happiness and Spencer looks up at you raising a brow as you run for your tape recorder.  Gesturing for him to come look. He looks into the telescope as you type into your computer for a second, making sure your telescope was taking the pictures you needed, before speaking into your recorder.
“This is Dr. Y/N L/N. I am accompanied by Dr. Spencer Reid. The date is April 12th 2014. For the first time ever Planet KXSY-1029 or Alias Gaia is Fully visible from earth!” You turn off the recorder and jump into your boyfriend’s arms. He instantly catches you and spins you around before kissing you fully on your lips. You moan into his mouth slightly as his tongue meets yours but eventually he pulls away but he is still lifting you fully.
“Do you realize how big tonight is? This is probably the only time anyone in centuries will be able to see her until we actually start human trials and it’s the only time it’ll probably ever be visible from earth and WE were here for it! This is amazing! This night cannot get bette--”
“Marry me.” Spencer says, looking into your eyes.
Your eyes widen, as Spencer sets you down on the ground. “What?” You ask.
“I was going to ask at dinner.” He says pulling a ring out of his jacket pocket and getting down on one knee. You feel tears welling in your eyes.
“I ruined your whole plan.” You say.
“No! No, you didn’t. Because seeing you react to seeing Gaia just now reminded me exactly why I wanted to marry you.” Spencer says, grabbing your hands. “Did you know the greek goddess Gaia in creating the earth, gave humans four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. And Zeus, fearing their power, split them in half and that’s where the soulmates come from?” He asks, you shake your head and more tears fall as he rubs small circles with his thumb on the back of your hand. “Y/N, you are the single most caring, passionate, amazing person I know. And if I could go back and change anything about how we met and when we met, I wouldn’t. If I could take away your hurt and tragedy, I would but I feel like everything I’ve ever done, everything that’s ever happened to me, was designed to lead me to you. Meeting you, loving you was the first time in my life I felt truly like myself, like I was half a person until meeting you made me whole again.” He tears up as he looks you in the eyes. “So, Y/N… Will you marry me? Please.” He adds softly.
You nod fast, tears falling more than they were before as you give him a wet smile. “Yes, Spencer! Of course!” You laugh as Spencer smiles up at you as he slides the ring onto your finger. He gets up and kisses you passionately, hands cradling your face. When you pull apart, he hugs you tightly. You breathe in his scent and look behind him at the images of Gaia on your screens. You thought back to the story Spencer had just told you about soulmates and how before you met Spencer you were just going through the motions of life, feeling incomplete and never knowing what was missing. You seemed to have everything you wanted. Your dream job and life. It wasn’t until being with Spencer you realized what was missing. That he was missing.
In the end, you were just two halves.
Made whole by Gaia.

Ginger Snap, Chapter 6
A/N  Well, here it is.  The last chapter of Ginger Snap.   As an unplanned fic inspired by a vanity license plate, I’m happy with how it turned out.   There will be a short epilogue posted in the next week or so.  In the meantime,  thank you so much for coming on this unexpected ride with me!   This chapter’s themed title is Fire in the Belly.
Previous chapters are best enjoyed on my AO3 page, because I have a bad habit of going back and editing them after they’ve been posted.
The next five months were some of the most difficult of my life.
After our talk, Frank and I agreed that it would be best that we parted ways.  The Southside flat was close to the university, plus I’d never truly felt at home there, so it made sense for him to keep it.  Fortunately, we’d never combined our savings and I still had money tucked away from my time as a medical resident in Boston.
Geillis wanted me to move into her sprawling Murrayfield home, at least temporarily, but I knew that I needed a place of my own.  To stand on my own two feet, as it were.   Which was how I found myself moving my few belongings into a modest Morningside walk-up as the rest of Edinburgh celebrated Hogmanay with fireworks and drunken revelry.
I scheduled the written component of my medical licensing exam for February.  This was likely foolhardy, but I’d already wasted enough time.  As a result, almost every waking hour was dedicated to studying.  The flat remained an empty box whose naked beige walls bore witness to my rudimentary existence.
Geillis called regularly, reminding me to eat and to occasionally step outside for a breath of fresh air.  Returning up the high street from one of our weekly coffee dates, a bright flash in a shop window caught my eye.
I stopped and stared as the afternoon sun lit the vase like a shard of stained glass.  It was a profound shade of blue: the colour of a field of indigo, of the night sky in a Byzantine icon, of Jamie’s eyes when he laughed.  It sat on my windowsill, filled with the season’s first daffodils, as I pored over practice exams.
***
“Geillis, I passed!  I fucking passed!”  An elderly woman seated across from me on the bus muttered under her breath about vulgar Sassenachs, but I was too elated to care.
“Of course ye did, ye brilliant disaster.  Now I can brag tae the neighbours I have my own personal physician.”
“Not so fast, Duncan.  I still need to pass the clinical exam, and that’s no small thing.”  My gut twisted just thinking about it, but unlike the written exam, there was little I could do to prepare.  Either I knew how to perform as a doctor or I did not.  The long months since I’d last treated a patient loomed like a large shadow over that question.
“Och, yer bum’s oot the window Claire,” my friend dismissed blithely.  “Ye’re gonna do great.  When do ye head down tae yer homeland, then?”
“May first.”  The practical examination took place in Manchester and needed to be scheduled three months in advance.
“Sounds like ye’ve got some time on yer hands.  Whate’er are ye going tae do with yerself?” Geillis asked in a singsong voice.
Fortunately for me, spring was Edinburgh’s most pleasant season.  Its many gardens and laneways erupted in carpets of buds and blooms.  The air smelled fresh and green, like biting into a tart apple.  I took long walks and fell in love with the city I now called home.  There were secondhand bookstores to explore and a weekly craft market where I gradually amassed an assortment of items that made my flat feel like a home.  With each passing day, my existence felt more and more like a life; one I defined for myself.
I also started to explore my options for employment, hoping for a job offer from one of the city’s hospitals that was conditional upon my successful completion of the licensing process.  It was to that end that I found myself walking down the corridor of The Royal Edinburgh hospital after what I hoped had been a rather successful interview with the deputy director of surgery.
“Claire?”
I recognized her voice immediately.  Before turning around I closed my eyes and sent out a fervent appeal to the universe.
“Jenny, hi.  How are you?”
She looked just the same, her straight black hair such a contrast to her brother.  Next to her stood a man, but not the man I had conjured the moment I heard her voice.  I was unclear whether that meant my prayer had been answered or not.  Seeing my gaze stray, Jenny jumped to introductions.
“This is my husband, Ian.  We’re here fer treatment on his leg.”
“Nothing serious, I hope.”
“Jes a fitting fer a new prosthetic.  Jenny keeps beatin’ me o’er the head with the old one, ye see.”  I laughed, instantly liking his easy-going manner, so in contrast with Jenny’s intensity.
“Ye must be the Claire I hear sae much about,” he went on, and I wondered what had been said about me in the Fraser household.
“Nothing bad, I hope.”
Ian smiled warmly.  “Only good things, I promise ye.”
“What brings ye tae the hospital, Claire?” Jenny interjected.
I explained how I was in the process of qualifying to practice medicine in Scotland, provided I could pass my exams.  Jenny and Ian were both delighted, congratulating me as though I’d already accomplished my goal.  As we spoke about Wee Jamie’s latest exploits and the ongoing growth of Ginger Snap, I couldn’t help notice that Jenny was staring at my hands.  At my left hand in particular.  Finally, I couldn’t resist temptation any longer.
“And, how is Jamie doing?”  I tried to sound casual, but I was certain my faltering voice betrayed me.
“Very well,” Jenny replied.  “Busy, as ye can imagine, but he thrives on chaos.”
I nodded, trying to be satisfied with the news that he was well.  It was the most I could hope for, really.  Jenny eyed me shrewdly before continuing.
“He’s a good man, my brother.  Any lass would be verra lucky tae have him.  I’d like tae see him settled, but he refuses tae be rushed.  Says the right woman is worth the wait.”  She paused before adding,  “I reckon ye ken wha’ he means.”
“Yes,” I breathed.  “I know exactly what he means.”
***
I took the overnight train from Edinburgh to Manchester.  It meant I was likely to arrive at the testing centre deprived of sleep, but I rationalized that most of my residency could be characterized as one long evaluation under similar conditions, and I hadn’t killed anyone yet.  Still, as the velvety darkness slipped by outside my window, studded by the lights of passing farms, my doubts got the better of me.
I texted Geillis, looking for moral support.  For once she didn’t reply immediately.  There was one other name on my laughably short list of contacts.  I deliberated for all of a minute, but the late hour and creeping panic made me impulsive.
Hello.
Best to start with something innocuous, rather than the slightly more revealing “I miss you.  I think about you every day.”  A reply bubble appeared immediately after I hit send.  At least I hadn’t woken him up.  A small tempest stirred in my gut.
Arsonist.  Hello.  How are you?
I tried to picture him.  Was he at home?  Working late?  Or, in a scenario that played out far too often in my mind, on a date?
I’m alright.  Well, to be honest, I feel like I’m going to puke and cry.  Not necessarily in that order.
Och, lass.  Do you need me to come over?
Damn it, this man.  I had done nothing to deserve his unswerving loyalty but mislead him and then disappear for months on end.  And yet here he was, willing to come to my aid on the flimsy pretext of a late night text.  Guilt and tenderness warred for possession of my heart.
That may prove a bit difficult, Jamie.  I’m on a train to England.
There was a long pause, and then a two letter reply.
Oh.
I realized at once that he’d leapt to the wrong conclusion: that I had left Edinburgh for good.  I rushed to correct the error.
I’m taking the second stage of my examination to practice as a NHS doctor tomorrow.   It’s all hands-on situations, and the licensing facility is in Manchester.
Arsonist, that’s wonderful news!  I’m so proud of you.
I blushed, then leaned my heated cheek against the chilled pane of glass.  It had been a rash impulse, but this conversation was exactly what I needed.  I wasn’t alone in this.  Geillis and Jamie were in my corner.
What has your stomach in a twist, then?
What if I’ve forgotten what to do?!  It’s been almost a year since I’ve so much as used a stethoscope, Jamie.  The exam is eighteen real-life situations and you’re given eight minutes to respond to each one.  Not a second longer.  I’m just...  what if I fail?
And there it was.  The kernel of fear that lived at the heart of everything I did.  What if I failed?   What if my best wasn’t good enough?
Claire, listen to me.  You’re a doctor, just as I am a chef.  It wouldn’t matter if I had not set foot in a kitchen in ten years, I would still remember how to cook, and I know that it’s the same for you.  I believe it with everything in me.
On some level, I knew that he was right.  But it still comforted me tremendously to hear it from someone I trusted.
Alright.  That helps.  I should let you get to bed.  Thank you for talking me off my ledge, Jamie.
Anytime, Arsonist.
As I got ready sign off, another text bubble appeared.
Oh, and Claire?  Don’t burn down their wee laboratory, okay? ;-)
I laughed out loud, muting my phone and reclining my seat.  Outside, the stars shone brightly, tiny fires in the firmament to guide me on my way.
***
It was a lovely late spring day, and the retractable doors to the fire station were open to the warm breeze.  I could hear Angus’ voice as he led a cooking demonstration for a group of young women; a bridal shower by the look of their ridiculous costumes.
“Mind the coriander, lass.  Tis a verra powerful aphrodisiac, ken?  I willna be held responsible if ye canna resist my considerable charms after ye eat yon soup.”
There was an outburst of giggles as I rounded the corner and entered the reception area.  Jenny was on the phone.  She halted mid-sentence when she saw me walk in.  I rubbed my hands down the front of my jeans, trying to stay calm.
“He’s in the storeroom, in the back,” Jenny prompted before I could even offer a greeting.  I smiled gratefully, relieved I didn’t have to make small talk.  I had only so much courage stored in reserve, and I didn’t want to use it all up before reaching my destination.
The storeroom was long and narrow, lit by a single naked bulb and girded with shelves.  Jamie stood with his broad back to the door, his curls absorbing the light like amber.  He had a clipboard in one hand, performing some kind of inventory.
“Jes how many lentils dae ye reckon we need, Janet?  There’s nine cans of them here already, and ye have us ordering ten more.”
I’d almost forgotten how much I loved his voice, the undulating grit and silk of it.  I had to remaster the art of speech before I could reply.
“It’s not Jenny.  It’s me.  Claire.”
He froze, and if it weren’t for the sudden rapid flow of his breath I would have assumed he hadn’t heard me.  My nerves got the better of me and I blurted out, “I like lentils.  You should listen to your sister.”
“Claire.”  More sigh than word.  He slowly turned.  It was when our eyes met that I knew nothing had changed for him.  It was still there, after all these months.  That look that told me I was the map to his journey, the focus to his vision, the reason to his why.
Hopefully he could read that same certainty on my face.
“I passed my exams,” I began.  “I’m a doctor again.”
“Ye never stopped bein’ a doctor.  This jus’ makes it official.”
“I’m still a disaster in the kitchen,” I continued.  “Last week I ruined two saucepans.”
“Tha’s only a tragedy if ye dinna have someone willin’ tae cook fer ye,” he replied with a strange squinting motion I understood was meant to be a wink.
“I’m still learning who I am.  How to be true to the person on the inside,” I confessed.  This is what had kept me away for so long, worried that I would escape from Frank’s orbit just to be caught up in another.  Jamie never once expected my submission, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t offer it out of habit.
“I’ll let ye in on a secret.  Sae is everyone else,” he replied.
Without realizing it, we’d both been moving until we were crowded together amongst the dried herbs and canned goods.  My hand rested against the solid metronome of his heart.  Just one more confession to go.
“I burn for you in a way I’ve never burned for anything before.”
There.  It was said.  A thousand wings of rapture beat against the cage of my ribs, clamoring to break free.  Jamie carefully pushed a loose curl behind my ear before cupping my jaw.
“Wee arsonist.  Come, set my life on fire.”

some harry potter opinions
speaking as a ravenclaw, slytherin is my favourite house because they have some of the most human qualities of the four, as well as the best aesthetic
dumbledore is not a bad person
all his backstory is so interesting and i really like the way his character develops across the series as harry/the reader grows to see him differently. but people in the fandom will reduce him to a terrible old man without bothering to think about the complexities of his character
sirius black is slightly overrated
goblet of fire is the worst film and adaptation in the series
malfoy and hermione aren’t compatible even if you disregard how badly he treated her
prisoner of azkaban is overrated. the film is very well made but badly adapted
deamus > wolfstar
luna lovegood is the best female character
dumbledore and percy weasley should have been in slytherin
books ranked from best to worst: deathly hallows, half blood prince, goblet of fire, philosopher’s stone, order of the phoenix, chamber of secrets, prisoner of azkaban. this opinion may change
philosopher’s stone is the most underrated film and i personally think it’s one of the best in the series. it’s also the one i have almost no problems with
kindness isn’t one of the main traits of hufflepuff because it’s a practice, not a personality trait. anyone can choose to be kind. better positive hufflepuff qualities are patience, fairness, loyalty and friendship
a lot of people over criticise elements of the narrative to the point where it’s less about critical thinking and more a case of finding things to be annoyed about. i personally am not affected by a lot of the issues raised so i can’t speak on those, but i do think people should stop holding a book series written in the 90s to the standards of society and literature in 2021
ron weasley is my favourite character so i always love seeing posts defending him/criticising the way the films portrayed him. however, a lot of people are prone to forgetting his mistakes in order to build him up; to me the reason he’s such a wonderful character is because of his flaws so more people should remember them
it’s very in character for harry to name his child after snape, even if i don’t like it that much
i find it a lot more convincing for dumbledore to see his family alive and happy in the mirror of erised, rather than grindelwald. i think it fits in so much better with what he says in the cave in half blood prince
harry wouldn’t have been happy as a hogwarts professor. he needs to be where the action is, and he’s not an academic
luna and charlie are asexual and i do not take criticism
as a stickler for canon, it’s rare for me to find headcanons that i like because a lot of the time they seem to be very over the top ways to add diversity (which is valid because there isn’t much, i get that people want to add their own ideas). to me the best headcanons are the ones that support other areas of the narrative and sit comfortably within the story, as well as things that could have been true but didn’t need mentioning e.g. the headcanon that harry has adhd fits in with a lot of his behaviour and hobbies, but it’s also something that didn’t need to be explicitly written
i don’t care that dumbledore didn’t say it calmly
the weasleys all being in gryffindor is one of the main reasons the sorting system is flawed. although it makes sense narratively (they all have similar values and would probably choose to be in gryffindor) it would have been way cooler for them all to be in different houses
i personally think arthur and bill would be in ravenclaw, molly in hufflepuff, percy and the twins in slytherin, and charlie, ginny and ron in gryffindor. another concept™ would be fred and george in different houses because imagine the shit that would go down
shipping hermione and malfoy is basically the same as shipping her with crabbe or goyle but because they weren’t played by conventionally attractive actors those ships aren’t popular
also what is the obsession with shipping hermione with every single character
the best house pairing is slytherin and hufflepuff
the golden trio belong in gryffindor because they use the traits they have from the other houses in order to be brave (harry has a strong survival instinct, ron’s loyalty helps him defend others, and hermione uses her intelligence to find solutions to dangerous situations they find themselves in)
luna embodies ravenclaw house more than any other character
voldemort’s death in the film was actually quite cool but i still do not forgive them for undermining the entire point of his character by not having him die like a regular man
the golden trio all chose to be in gryffindor
i’m glad the deleted scene of draco malfoy throwing harry his wand wasn’t included. i think it’s out of character because malfoy wasn’t heroic
snape loved lily, but he did so selfishly because he only cared about being with her and not about the lives of the people she loved
i like remus and tonks together
hagrid is underrated
harry and hermione’s dance scene is nice but it would have been better placed in literally any other part of any of the films. i don’t think it has to be read with romantic undertones, however the fact that at the same time in the book both harry and hermione were feeling too depressed to even bother cheering each other up was a really important way of showing how ron was the glue that brought the trio together. also they cut out ron and hermione’s dance scene and still had time to do this
one of the most underrated quotes is “we’re all human, aren’t we? every human life is worth the same, and worth saving” as said by the elite sir kingsley shacklebolt sir
in comparison to the rest of deathly hallows the epilogue wasn’t very well written, but it was the right ending the book needed
lupin was a better professor than mcgonagall
draco malfoy actually did have a choice, even if it was a difficult one

Epilogue of the Nomad Nie AU // On AO3
The Lan family comes through the Nie's domain again
After what happened during their last commercial expedition, it took Lan Wangji great effort to be allowed on this one. His uncle, plagued with guilt over being forced to leave Lan Xichen among blood-thirsty barbarians, hadn't wanted to risk his other nephew. Lan Wangji, stubbornly, had insisted for weeks, arguing about experience, about precedence, about simply wanting to, until finally his uncle gave in, as he’d always known he would.
The journey hadn’t been easy. They’d had to hire a new guide after the old one tried to double cross them. That new man, that Wei Wuxian, was extremely irritating at times, but even Lan Qiren admitted that he understood the nomads’ languages better than old Su She had, and that he knew safer passages as well. It wasn’t unlikely that if they’d worked with Wei Wuxian that last time, Lan Xichen wouldn’t have been lost to them.
It was because of Lan Xichen that Lan Wangji had been so insistent on accompanying his uncle on this expedition. He had always been close to his brother, and until he knew for sure that Lan Xichen was fine, that he was treated decently, he would know no rest.
After some weeks of journey, their group finally arrived at the spot where the Nie had demanded they should meet them next time they travelled in this region. Lan Wangji prepared himself to wait a long time, but barely a shichen and a half had passed before they spotted a group of riders coming their way. There was some nervousness at first, in case the nomads’ situation had changed since last time, but as the riders came closer Wei Wuxian confirmed those were indeed Nie, and Lan Qiren soon recognised the Khan who had stolen his nephew.
Not long after, two dozen riders came to stop before their camp, led by the tallest man Lan Wangji had ever seen in his life. Next to that giant Lan Wangji guessed to be the Khan, there were two slimmer silhouettes dressed as richly as could be among nomads, as if they were treating this encounter as a great event. Lan Wangji barely looked at them, searching through the group of nomads for a sign of his brother, finding none. Fear seized him at the idea that Lan Xichen was unallowed or unable to be present, and a glance at his uncle told him that fear was shared.
They watched the Nie dismount, the Khan and those two companions coming closer while the rest stayed back, watching the merchants warily. Stopping in front of Lan Qiren, the Khan said a few stern words at him. Before Wei Wuxian could start translating, one of the two Nie with the Khan did it, in a voice that made Lan Wangji shiver with emotion.
“Khan Mingjue is pleased to find you well again, master Lan,” the man said. “He hopes your travel was pleasant so far, and that it will be peaceful in the future. We have brought provisions to share with you as a gift, as well as some precious items you might be interested to purchase. There’s some really beautiful furs,” the man added in a warmer inflection. “They’ll be easy to trade along the way, and even if you have to take them home I think they’ll fetch a good price.”
“Xichen?” Lan Qiren gasped.
The man smiled and laughed softly, a hint of surprise on his face at the idea he might not have been recognised.
Now that he knew, Lan Wangji couldn’t doubt that this was his brother. It certain was his face, and his too rare laugh. But the rest of him just looked so different that the confusion was natural, surely. After all, Lan Xichen was dressed in the exact same manner as the other Nie around him, and had even done his hair in the same manner as them, decorated with braids instead of tied in a respectable bun. Not only that, but his skin was nowhere as pale as it used to be, as if he’d been working outside in the sun. Lan Wangji might have been outraged on his behalf, if only Lan Xichen hadn’t been smiling so brightly.
“Uncle, it’s good to see you again,” Lan Xichen said, bowing before Lan Qiren. He then noticed that his brother was there as well, and his face illuminated. “Wangji, you came too! I’m really glad. Uncle, brother, I must introduce you to my husband, Huaisang. Huaisang, these men are my family.”
Lan Qiren went pale upon hearing the word husband. Before he could say anything, the smaller man next to Lan Xichen bowed before them as elegantly as if he’d been raised in the imperial palace (he’d trained for this, Lan Xichen later said, eager to make a good impression) and spoke to them in perfect Hanyu.
“I am honoured to meet my husband’s family,” Huaisang said. “I hope we can all get along for many years to come.”
Lan Qiren gaped at his nephew’s spouse, opening and closing his mouth a few times. Then, realising that a mere barbarian was showing better manners than him, he regained control of himself and nodded at the young man.
“I am pleased to meet you as well,” Lan Qiren said in a voice that could hardly have been more displeased. “Although it was my understanding he would be marrying a woman, a Nie princess?”
“Su She wasn’t nearly as good as he thought he was,” Lan Xichen explained, while his husband tried to contain a giggle. “I’m glad you hired someone else this time. I told you back then that it was the Khan’s brother who wanted to marry.”
Lan Qiren looked devastated by the news.
“Xichen, we’ll buy you back. No matter the price…”
“What for?” Lan Xichen asked with sincere surprise, taking his husband’s hand. Huaisang’s expression, which had hardened for a moment, relaxed again. “Uncle, don’t you worry about me, I’m really fine. Though I have a list of things I’d like you to bring, next time you come here. It’s so hard to get paper here, you see, and I’m teaching Huaisang to paint… he’s really quite good, you know.”
Huaisang preened at the compliment. Lan Qiren, too stunned to say anything, just nodded. He hadn’t expected to find Lan Xichen in such high spirits, and neither had Lan Wangji who, in the privacy of his mind, had imagined three dozens scenarios in which he would have to rescue his unfortunate brother from the cruel villains who kept him from his family. He had prepared himself to find Lan Xichen desperate at worst, resigned at best, but instead he found him… happy.
The idea was odd to Lan Wangji.
His brother, in his mind, was a serious person, a kind one, hard-working, dedicated to the family business, caring also when it came to Lan Wangji himself, but he wasn’t sure happy was a word he’d ever have used to describe Lan Xichen. At best, his brother had seemed satisfied with his lot in life, and aware that others weren’t as lucky at him. Since he hadn’t been miserable it had been enough for him, and Lan Wangji hadn’t paid it any mind.
So it was odd to see the way Lan Xichen’s face illuminated every time he looked at his husband, or when he explained he had his own horse. His countenance was more animated than it used to be, his smiles came more easily, he spoke with more spontaneity.
He really was happy, and Lan Wangji wasn’t sure how to feel about it, when that happiness had only been found once far from home.
“Lan Zhan, your brother is not at all what I expected!” Wei Wuxian told him later and they inspected some of the merchandise the Nie wanted to trade. He was standing far too close to Lan Wangji, as he tended to do. “Since you said he’s the oldest I thought he’d be even more stern and boring than you, but he’s actually quite fun!”
Early on, Lan Wangji would have asked their guide why he insisted on pestering him, if he found him so boring. He’d learned the hard way that it was impossible to get a straight answer out of Wei Wuxian. Unless he was working, that man just never took anything seriously at all.
That night, Lan Wangji found that he didn’t mind. Maybe being serious wasn’t such a virtue after all. If letting go of restraint was doing such good to his brother, then surely relaxing a little couldn’t be bad.
“He’s really nice to chat with,” Wei Wuxian insisted, looking at Lan Xichen who was now talking with Lan Qiren, probably still discussing business, Huaisang nodding here and there at their side. “His husband isn’t half bad either, I guess.”
Lan Wangji nodded. That Huaisang stood out like a sore thumb among the Nie, but he seemed decently clever and not too ugly in spite of a somewhat nasty scar on his neck. He wouldn’t have been Lan Wangji’s type if he’d had one, but Lan Xichen seemed immensely fond of him, and that was what mattered.
“How awful though,” Wei Wuxian whined, poking at Lan Wangji’s ribs as if they were friends. “I’ll be out of a job if those nomads start learning Hanyu. Hey, Lan Zhan, you’ll continue hiring me even if you don’t need a translator, right?”
“Hm,” Lan Wangji replied. “I will.”
Wei Wuxian cackled at that promise. Lan Wangji didn’t bother reminding Wei Wuxian that he did far more than just translate and was the best man they could have hired for the job. All his attention was on his brother and that husband of his.
It was good to see Lan Xichen this happy.

Consequences - Matthew Tkachuk: part 6
Tumblr media
summary: you absolutely hate Matthew Tkachuk so it’s just your luck when you wind up pregnant with his child.
a/n: well... here it is lol 2(or 3?) weeks late. sorry for the wait, this chapter was just a bitch to write and every time i thought i was done, i wasn’t happy with it & i didn’t wanna post just for the sake of posting. but i stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish this, so technically it is sunday so im posting on schedule lol
im not sure how many parts are left to this story, maybe two or three + an epilogue but i haven’t decided yet.
also, this gif made me feel things 😂
word count: 2.1k (i wish they were longer too but im doing the best i can😩)
warnings: none other than a couple swear words
Part 6
29 weeks
“What are you doing?”
“Researching how to murder someone and get away with it.” You mutter, typing where to buy a tiger in Google.
Becca gives you a wary look and sits next to you. “Everything okay?”
“No!” You groan in frustration, tossing your phone on the coffee table. “Matthew is driving me insane.”
She frowns. “Is he being an ass?”
“He’s being nice. Too nice.” You grumble, ignoring when Becca chuckles. “It’s like he’s trying to make up for missing the doctor’s appointment even though I told him I forgive him.”
Becca raises an eyebrow at you and you try to ignore her pointed look. “Do you though?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You ask defensively.
“You’re different around him now and I’m sure he’s noticed. It’s like you don’t trust him.”
You start to deny her accusation but stop to think about it. Were you more cautious around Matt lately? You certainly didn’t let yourself depend on him for things that you had been before, too afraid that he would let you down. You wanted to, but there was a nagging voice in the back of your mind reminding you that he’s let you down before and there’s always a chance he will again.
It’s as if Becca can read your mind because she shrugs. “You should be honest with him.”
However, something you’ve learned recently is that too much honestly can get you in trouble.
. . .
Sending Matt a text that said we need to talk, probably wasn’t the best approach because it took him approximately fifteen minutes to show up at your apartment and his is a half hour drive away from yours.
So his windblown hair and wide eyes really weren’t a surprise when you opened your front door.
“So, I think I should have worded that text a little better.”
“You think?” He huffs, walking past you when you step aside. He doesn’t even bother to take his shoes or jacket off, walking straight to the living room and turning to look at you.
“I’m sorry. For whatever I did.” He says and you groan.
“That’s the problem! Stop being sorry for things. It’s driving me nuts.”
He frowns and looks at you in confusion. “So… you don’t want me to be sorry for things?”
“I don’t want you to not be sorry for things, I just want you to stop being sorry for everything. It’s like you’re walking on eggshells around me.”
“I’m just trying to make-”
“Make up for missing the appointment.” you say, finishing his sentence. “I know.” your hand falls to your stomach and you sigh. “We’re going to be parents in less than three months. We need to start trusting each other.”
Matt slowly walks over to you and reaches out for your hand which you let him hold. His thumb rubs across the back of it and he nods.
“You’re right.”
You grin and lightly punch his shoulder with your free hand. “Of course I am. When am I ever wrong?”
He smiles, pulling you in for a hug and pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You ignore the way it makes your heart race because the last thing you need right now is your feelings for him to get even more confusing when you’re both finally on the same page.
Things are good now and you can’t risk messing it up.
. . .
31 weeks
He’s like a kid in a candy store, you’ve realized as you follow Matt around buy buy BABY. He has two carts, one already stocked full of things and the other slowly being filled. You stopped keeping count of how much everything costed an hour ago because the number started to make you queasy.
“He has enough clothes, Matty.” You whine, taking note of how Matt trips over his feet when you call him by that nickname. “and he’ll grow out of them before he even gets a chance to wear them.”
“Last one, I swear.” He says, holding up an outfit. “C’mon, how fucking cute is he going to look in this?”
“If his first word is a swear word, I’m going to kill you.” You mutter, taking the outfit from him and tossing it in the cart. Matt just grins and rests a hand on your stomach, hoping the baby will kick.
“How’s Joey?”
“Grayson is doing just fine.”
“We’re never going to come to an agreement on a name, are we?” he asks and you smile sweetly.
“Nope.”
He laughs and starts walking towards the checkouts.
“Did my mom tell you that they’re coming to visit?” He asks and you nod, recalling your conversation with Chantal. She’d called you first to make sure you were okay with the entire Tkachuk clan showing up. She knows how stressful pregnancy is and didn’t want to overwhelm you.
But you were ecstatic when she asked if it was okay for them to visit. You’ve grown to depend on her for any pregnancy questions over the past seven months and even when you needed some regular advice for everyday things, you sometimes texted her.
“Yeah, it’s Wednesday, right?”
Matt nods, smiling politely at the cashier as he starts loading every thing on the conveyor belt. You can tell that she’s a hockey fan by the way her eyes light up when she recognizes who he is.
“I’ve been meaning to ask if you can pick them up from the airport?” He asks, catching you off guard. “Their plane lands around noon and I won’t be back until later that night and I don’t really want them to have to take a cab.”
You’re a little surprised that he’s asking you to do this instead of paying someone or asking a close friend to do it instead. It’s an odd feeling, realizing that he trusts you with his family.
“Yeah, I’d love to.” You tell him and his smile warms you to the bone.
. . .
You show up to the airport forty-five minutes early because you can’t decide if you should wait in the SUV for Matt’s family, or meet them in the airport. Would it be weird to wait for them inside like you would with your own friends or family? You double check your phone to make sure that Matt did tell them it was you picking them up because how weird would it be if they were expecting him only to find you waiting.
You’re definitely over thinking it but you find yourself standing at the gates when their plane lands.
Chantal is the first person you see and her face lights up and she scurries over to you, pulling you in for a soft hug.
“Oh, look at you!” She gushes, taking your hands in hers and holding you at arms length. “You’re glowing.”
Glowing isn’t exactly the word you would use because as much as you tried to look nice to pick them up, you’re still seven months pregnant, sweating because of the jacket you have on and most definitely are wearing odd shoes because you can no longer see your feet and Matt wasn’t here to check for you.
But you blush nonetheless, letting Keith, Taryn, and Brady hug you before starting to walk to baggage claim.
“Thank you for picking us up.” Chantal says and you smile.
“It’s nothing,” you say, brushing it off. “You’ve done a lot for me.”
“Anything I can do to help. I know how hard it is being pregnant with your man travelling a lot.”
You want to correct her when she calls Matt your man, but you don’t want to be impolite so you just nod.
“Speaking of your man,” Brady says in a teasing voice, “what time does he get in, again?”
“Around 8.” You say, ignoring the teasing tone and changing the subject to ask Taryn how school is going. You know you’ll hear more comments about the nature of your relationship with Matt from his brother but for now, you chat with Taryn and Chantal about plans for the baby.
. . .
Matt gave you a key to his apartment when you both realized that you spent more time at his these days then you did at your own so you don’t miss the knowing looks Chantal and Keith share when you use your key to unlock Matt’s apartment. You know they can tell it’s your key and not Matt’s because he painted it your favourite colour when he gave it to you.
“So do we get a sneak peak of the nursery?” Taryn asks hopefully and you nod, gesturing for her to follow you. Matt turned one of the guest rooms in to the nursery in his apartment. You haven’t done anything with yours yet because you and Matt were starting to wonder if after the baby is born, at least for a little while, the two of you should just live together. It would certainly make things much easier.
“It’s beautiful.” Chantal says, and you can see her eyes watering a little.
“We’re going to put up letters spelling his name above the crib.”
“Oh yeah, have you guys decided on a name yet?” Keith asks, testing the sturdiness of the crib by wiggling it a little.
“No.” You mutter. “We can’t agree on anything.”
“You’ll find something you both love eventually.” Chantal reassures you. “Now, please tell me my son has food in his fridge, because I’m going to cook dinner.”
You grin, realizing that she too knows how bad Matt is at keeping his fridge stocked. Before you started spending so much time here, you would be lucky if he had eggs in the fridge.
. . .
Matt arrives home just as dinner is cooked and you get to witness what a typical Tkachuk night must look like. There’s lots of chirps thrown but you can tell how close this family is and how much they care about each other. Especially when it comes to Matt and his mom and sister. He treats them like gold and it warms your heart to see it.
After dinner, you volunteer to clean up and you’re surprised when Keith offers to help. You’ve only spoken to him a few times before today and you don’t feel as close to him as you do with Chantal so it’s quiet while the two of you clear up the dishes.
Keith breaks the silence after a couple minutes, turning to look at you.
“I know Matthew can be a handful… but don’t give up on him, okay?”
You’re surprised to hear this coming from Keith because you were truthfully expecting Taryn or Brady to say something about it. Every time you and Matthew touched or spoke to each other, you noticed the knowing looks and soft smiles from the other Tkachuk family members.
It was like they knew something that neither you nor Matthew did.
You’re not sure what exactly to say so you just nod.
“I won’t.” You promise, realizing that you truly mean it.

Diabolik Lovers GRAND EDITION for Switch ;; More, Blood ー Azusa Dark [Epilogue]
Tumblr media
Monologue
Whenever I bleed, everyone is happy.
Every time I saw those smiles on their faces,
I could feel as if I was alive,
and had a place to be.
Yet...Those arms which punch me,
kept on growing thinner with each passing day.
Even if I clung onto them, wanting to get punched,
they would just weakly shrug me off.
Until eventually,
they would no longer even bat an eye at me.
I wanted to get punched and kicked by them,
after they had regained their strength from eating to their heart’s content.
I desperately yearned,
for a reason for existing.
In the form of something visible like pain or blood.
Because those are proof,
that my life is worthy.
Which is why,
I mustered up all my strength and kicked the pavement,
before going off to steal some food.
Some pieces of unripe fruits,
and the slightest bit of bread.
I was convinced,
that everything would work out now.
ーー So God, why?
ー The scene starts with a flashback of a young Azusa in the city
Azusa: Haah, haah, haah...
( Wait for me, everyone. I’ll be back soon... )
( I’m sure everyone will feel a little better after eating these, right? )
( Then they’ll punch me again, right? )
( Nn...What’s with this crowd of people? )
Male villager A: ...So those pesky little thieves were finally killed, huh?
Who would be so stupid to sneak into an aristocrat’s mansion? ...Well, guess they had it coming for them.
Female villager B: Even so, they don’t have to make such a show out of it...
Apparently they weren’t even given a proper trial? It’s quite cruel...
Male villager A: That’s true, but...
Azusa: ( Why...? )
...Justin, Christina, Melissa...
( Why? Why? Why are you guys...? )
( There’s no way they were the ones behind the theft. They were with me the whole time after all. )
( Besides...They were all starving, to the point of being unable to move... )
( So exhausted, they couldn’t even hit me anymore... )
Male villager A: Well, I guess this means we can rest in peace for a while at least?
Female villager A: Yeah. I feel bad for them but...Through their sacrifice, peace might finally return to this area.
Azusa: ( No...You’re wrong...You’re wrong!! )
...Uu...Hit me...Uu...
( Give me...A reason to exist... )
( Everyone... )
Police officer: ...Oi, you.
Azusa: ...
Police officer: Oh? You’re crying?
Azusa: ...Uu...
( Aah...This again...I’m alone again... )
Police officer: Well...I can sympathize with you. Those kids treated you pretty hard-handedly, didn’t they?
However, you can rest assured now. I avenged you after all.
Nobody will hurt you any more.
Azusa: Uu...
Uwaaaaah...!!
ー The flashback ends as the scene shifts to the living room
Azusa: ...Nn...
*Rustle*
Azusa: That dream again...
...
*Rustle*
Azusa: Justin, Christina, Melissa...
Can I become Adam, I wonder?
Can I succeed at giving birth to this ‘new race’ that man wishes for?
Can I finally be useful...?
I...
Uu...Haah...
*STAB*
ー The scene shifts to the hallway
Yui: ( Huh? That’s Azusa-kun in the living room, right? )
Azusa: Fufu...
*STAB*
Yui: ( Azusa-kun, what is he doing...? )
Azusa: More...
*STAB STAB*
Azusa: More, more...!
*STAB STAB STAB*
Yui: ( H-His arm is covered in blood! )
ー She enters the living room
Yui: Azusa-kun! Stop!!
Azusa: Yui-san...? What’s wrong? Why are you in such a rush?
Yui: Of course I am! I mean, your arm is covered in blood...!
Azusa: Aah, this...?
*STAB*
Yui: S-Stop...!
Azusa: Stop...? But why?
But I have to...save him...
Yui: Save...? Who?
Azusa: Justin.
Yui: ( Justin is...He’s referring to one of the scars on his arm, right? )
( But what does he mean with ‘save’? )
Azusa: Justin seemed to be in pain because he had almost faded away, so I saved him. He’s my friend after all...
Now we can be together again.
Yui: ( I see. In Azusa-kun’s eyes, those wounds are his precious friends...Right? )
Azusa: I never want to lose a friend...lose my family again.
Yui: ( Azusa-kun...? )
Azusa: ...You see...I had this dream.
About the past...
Before I became a Vampire.
Yui: ( ...Before he became a Vampire? )
(  Could it be, Azusa-kun wasn’t actually born a Vampire...? )
( He might have been human then... )
Uhm...Were you...originally human?
Azusa: Yeah...I was...
Yui: ( So I was right...! )
Azusa: Haah...
A dream of the time when my precious friends were murdered...
They were all like family to me.
They punched me lots. Hit me, kick me, yell at me...
That’s how they gave my existence meaning.
They gave a meaning, to someone utterly worthless like me...
...
Yui: ( Azusa-kun... )
Monologue
Azusa-kun was originally human.
A human, just like me...
So why?
Why does he feel so far out of reach?
Azusa-kun.
I don’t understand...

You and Me and the Big Blue Sea
Word Count: 6720 (no freaking way this started as 3,000 words and is now this freaking long
Book: The Nanny Affair
Pairing: Aditya Bharad x MC (Alyssa Febrey)
Rating: Mature (ish)
Warnings: Language, allusions to sexual content
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters, they belong to Pixelberry studios.
Author’s Note: This is so stinking long! I don't know how this happened! I haven't wanted to write for a long time, but I just thought Aditya was a cutie and wouldn't it be nice if MC could just date him in TNA. I am not loving Sam Dalton right now, but I did try not to be super cruel to him. I did run through and edit this, but I'm going through an emotional time at work so it's possible that it's bad. The ending was hard for me, because I wanted it to be a happy ending and I thought making it epilogue-ish was how to do that. Maybe I'll explore some of the in-between that I didn't dive into that fully. Thank you to anyone who reads!

Aditya had spent the entire evening watching Alyssa Febrey. She stepped out in a sinful, skintight dress that was more visually appealing than the whole of the Casino de Monte Carlo. He surely lost thousands of dollars that night, but he would never know because he was just looking at her. He watched as she was joined by Sofia, their boss, and Sam Dalton, their boss boss. Sam Dalton clearly noticed what Aditya had, that Alyssa was the most beautiful woman in the entire building. He watched as Sam tried to touch her, discreetly. He also saw Alyssa twist her face from one of annoyance into a kind smile each time he did.
Aditya had admired Alyssa from afar for a while now and he could say with confidence that she was seeing Sam Dalton. He could also say with confidence that she was unhappy with Sam Dalton.
He and Alyssa ate lunch together every day. He would see her get a call from Sam on her watch and lately, she’d been declining it instead of leaving to see Sam as she had at the beginning. Maybe it was because of something Sam had done, or maybe she just wasn’t feeling it anymore. Aditya didn’t know for sure.
After watching them for a long time, he decided it was pathetic to be pining after this young woman, fresh out of grad school, who was immensely talented and capable and undoubtedly the most intelligent person in their division. She had saved the expo today by thinking on her feet and being the most charming person in the room. Even though she was drawing him to her like a magnet, he knew he needed to stop staring at her like a loser.
He noticed that Sam had slipped a room key into her hand and that she was now waiting to go join him. And Aditya didn’t want to be the chump who didn’t get to be with her and watched her with another guy, but he had to talk to her. He gulped down another shot and took his liquid courage over to see the girl he’d been thinking about all day.
“Hello Alyssa,” he said softly to get her to turn towards him.
She turned and her frown lit up into a grin when she saw him, “Addy!” She jumped up and wrapped her arms around him in a hug, “Today was amazing, wasn’t it? I can’t believe how well it went for us!”
“How well it went for you, you mean. You saved us out there, Lyss.”
“I don’t know about that, but thank you. It was exhilarating to talk about our idea with people who can actually make it happen and use it to make the world a better place.”
“It was. You did a great job presenting. I would have been so nervous about having that responsibility on my shoulders. You’re great with people.”
“Aw, Ads, you are too! I know you would have done a great job with it, too.”
“Nah, I wouldn’t have.”
The way she was looking at him had him believing her though. Her eyes were lit up in a way he hadn’t seen the whole time she’d been at the casino. She was leaning in towards him, looking into his eyes, smiling brightly.
“So, you doing anything fun tonight?” she asked.
“I wasn’t planning on much. I thought I might take a walk down to the docks since I haven’t done any working out since I’ve been here. Or sightseeing, we just have been stuck in here dealing with the expo.”
She sat there for a second, contemplating, “Can I come with you?”
. . .
Alyssa had been feeling alone lately. That is until she met Aditya at work. Where all Sam wanted from her was to have sex, Aditya was interested in talking to her and getting to know her. Sure, she liked having sex, but she wanted more from someone she was pursuing a real relationship with. She wanted to feel like she was friends with the person she was with, not just white-hot lust. She didn’t have that with Sam.
Aditya was filling that gap. And sure, the grass wasn’t always greener on the other side. But as she’d been getting to know Aditya, she was realizing that there were romantic feelings there. They hadn’t so much as flirted, but she was crushing on him hard. There were just lunch and work conversations and many long hours of working closely together and somewhere along the way, she realized that she liked him a lot. And she’d given Sam chances to be what she was looking for, she had told him she needed to not feel like a booty call and to be treated like she was a person he actually loved. Still, he only ever called or texted to sext or to set up a time to have sex. He didn’t listen to her. And she was absolutely exhausted trying to make it work.
Alyssa knew she had a lot to offer and she knew what she was worth. Which was why she was done sitting around. She texted Sam that she wouldn’t be joining him, then followed Aditya out of the casino.
“Go slow, because I can’t move that fast in these shoes.”
“Do you need some help?” he asked, offering his arm for her.
“Thank you, Aditya,” she said, hooking her hand in the crook of his arm. Being close to this man was making her stomach flip in a way it hadn’t in years. She wondered if she would work up the courage to say anything to him yet.
“So, I haven’t been able to help but notice that you and Sam Dalton seem closer than former nanny and employer,” he started as they walked slowly down the sidewalk to the docks.
“What an astute scientific observation, Mr. Bharad.”
“And would it be the type of relationship where I would get fired for taking a walk arm in arm with you on a beautiful night in a foreign country?”
Alyssa laughed, “Please, I don’t think Sam cares about me unless I’m in a bedroom.”
Aditya stopped and turned to look at her with a heartbroken gaze, “Well, he’s an idiot.”
Alyssa returned it for a moment, then looked away sheepishly, “Yes, he is.”
“So you’re not going to use that room key in your purse?” he asked, cringing that he asked that question.
“I texted him that I wasn’t coming.”
Aditya was in shock. He couldn’t believe she had decided to hang out with him over billionaire Sam Dalton, “Has he replied?”
“I muted him.”
“Ouch.”
“Well maybe he should’ve thought of that back when I told him I was tired of feeling like a booty call and I wanted to feel valued, and then he kept just trying to have sex with me and not actually do couple things,” she didn’t want to admit how stupid she actually was. She couldn’t believe she had actually thought something serious could happen with Sam.
“So is he your boyfriend?”
“He’s not my boyfriend in public or in private,” it was the most honest thing she had admitted about Sam. She wasn’t his and he wasn’t hers. She didn’t think she’d ever said anything that brash about Sam.
“Oh.”
“I feel a little stupid about it actually.”
“You shouldn’t.”
“But I do. I let this guy tell me that I’m pretty and smart and then didn’t even stop to think about if the relationship was actually good for me. He didn’t even have to do anything to get me, I just followed after him like a little puppy dog. And I’ve never gotten anything back except for him leaving his fiancee who cheated on him and it was exposed in front of all the guests at his rehearsal dinner.”
“You deserve better than that, Alyssa.”
“I know I do,” she said, knowing she did in her heart, hoping that she was maybe standing in front of her “better” right now.
“You’re so confident, Alyssa. I don’t know what has happened with you and Sam, but I know you to be a confident woman who knows what she wants,” Aditya was hopeful that she would be confident and tell him if she felt something for him because his confidence was dwindling with all of the Sam talk. He thought she’d realize they had good times together and go back to him. His window was dwindling. He wanted her so badly, just to hold her hand and talk to her and buy her lunch and flowers and follow her around while she was shopping and research next to each other on the couch and eventually fall in love and get married and have children. All he wanted was a shot. He had one but he thought it had already passed.
“I think I’m learning what I want,” she said after a few moments of silence. She was standing there with a man she really liked and who had always put her first. He was so kind to her, always helping her when she was still figuring out her way around the lab, eating lunches with her so she wouldn’t have to go on her own, bringing in coffee for everyone but getting her the fancy latte she liked instead of just a regular coffee with sugar and cream. She could not have asked him to be a better guy. He was so sweet.
“What do you want?” he asked. They had reached the docks and were now strolling to the end to look out at the water. It was a beautiful night, maybe a bit chilly. Alyssa shivered and Aditya shifted to wrap his arm around her. At that, Alyssa turned so she was completely in his arms.
She looked up into his eyes and smiled, “I want you,” and with that, decisively pressed her lips to his. He secured her in his arms tightly, pulling her tiny body to his almost aggressively. She smiled into his lips, running her hands up to rest at the nape of his neck. He ran his hands over the silky back of her dress, holding onto her bare skin when his hands moved up her back. She lost herself in the feeling of Aditya’s lips on hers. She’d wanted to be kissed like this for so long. Like the other person was desperate for her. Like she was all he wanted and all he needed. The way his hand gripped her back, gently but intentionally, made her knees weak. And she realized she hadn’t kissed like this for a long time. She was desperate for him. She wanted him and she needed him. He was as necessary as the salty air she was breathing. If not more. The kiss ignited feelings that had been brewing for a long time. All she could think about now was him.
He stopped kissing her to look into her eyes. He looked at her like she hung the moon. She smiled up at him and said, “That was perfect.”
“I wholeheartedly agree,” he said, wrapping her up into another perfect kiss.
They stood at the edge of the dock, holding hands and chatting almost all night. They talked about work, more than just the expo that day, but their hopes and dreams for environmental innovation. She’d never enjoyed conversations like this with a guy before. He didn’t talk down to her or assume she didn’t know what he was saying.
They could have talked about it for hours, but eventually, they moved on to family. He had two loving parents who had emigrated from India to give him and his four brothers and two sisters a life in America. They had expected him to be a doctor, but he had insisted on becoming an environmental engineer. In the end, they were proud of their third child. They lived in Boston, Massachusetts, and hadn’t loved everything about America, but were huge Red Sox fans and bought season tickets every year. Secretly, she hoped she’d be able to join them sometime. When she was at MIT she loved going to Red Sox games and if things went well with Aditya, maybe she would actually get to join them realistically.
She told him about her parents, who loved their only daughter with all their hearts. They lived in a small town in upstate New York and took all of their vacations to visit her, whether she was at MIT or living in the Big Apple. Her parents were German and they loved to cook German cuisine for fun and would invite anyone to join them. Her dad also loved to fish on the quiet lake their house sat on.
They talked about music, and art, and their favorite restaurants and movies and tv shows and what they thought about the books they were reading and how they saw the world and what they thought about politics and taxes and British imperialism and anything and everything until it was well into the early hours of the morning.
Eventually, she could feel her feet growing numb. Sore, she could deal with. Numb was a completely different story. She started shifting her feet a lot, and Aditya noticed.
“You can take those off you know,” he said.
“No, a lady never takes off her shoes until the end of the night,” she joked, drawing a quick laugh from her handsome companion.
“Well then, I’ll carry you,” he offered.
“You’ll carry me?”
He nodded, reaching down under her knees and lifting her up into his arms, “Ads! What are you doing?”
He laughed and kissed her gently on the cheek, “I’m carrying you. Your feet hurt and I’m a gentleman so I’m carrying you back to your room.”
The two of them giggled the entire way back to her room, which was conveniently on the same floor as his. When they arrived, he set her down on her feet, then leaned down and met her in a final kiss.
“I want to spend every moment with you, Alyssa. But I want to prove that I want more than something physical with you,” he whispered against her lips as she started tugging him closer to her. It was obvious what they both wanted, but he was committed to not being Sam. He wanted to show her that he wanted more with her. Because boy did he want more with her. He wanted to visit her parent’s cabin in upstate New York and go fishing with her dad and learn to make schnitzel in the kitchen with her mom. He wanted to sit in front of the warm fireplace with her, reading books and talking and kissing.
“You can come in, I’ll still believe you want more,” she looked up with him, batting her eyelashes flirtatiously. “I promise.”
“If I come in, it will just be for a drink.”
“Oh of course. Just a drink,” she smirked, wrapping a hand behind his neck, curling her fingers into his hair to pull him down into a kiss. He went into the kiss willingly. They were ramping it up to more when there was a shout from the end of the hall.
“What the fuck is this?” Sam exclaimed from the end of the hallway, hands on his hips. Alyssa had never seen him looking so angry. She knew why, she had her hand tangled in another man’s hair and her leg was doing that thing where it was hitching up over his hip. It looked bad. But it didn’t matter if it looked bad, it wasn’t bad. She was single.
“Sam, it’s late. These people in this hotel are trying to sleep! Go to bed,” she hissed loudly.
“Ill pay for their rooms. Who the fuck is this guy and why the fuck is he kissing my girlfriend?” Sam’s intense features were darkening and she genuinely believed he was going to kill Aditya. Genuinely believed it would happen.
“I’m not your girlfriend, Sam,” she said adamantly.
“Like hell, you’re not.”
“We’re not doing this out here,” she thought if she whispered it, he would get the hint and stop yelling.
He seemed to get the hint as he lowered his voice, “Fine, we’ll do this in your room.”
“No, we’re not doing this in my room either. We’re not doing this at all. Go back to your room, Sam,” as soon as she said it, she was done with him. She knew she couldn’t go back to what they’d had, just sex and kissing and occasionally seeing the boys. She still wanted to see the boys, but that was all. She’d be staying in this just to be the next mother to those boys. And she loved them so much, more than she loved most anyone in the world. But that was not enough of a reason to stay in a relationship that was causing her so much pain.
“No,” Sam crossed his arms adamantly.
“She told you to go, man,” Aditya stepped in front of Alyssa. Alyssa leaned her head against his shoulder, holding onto him gently as he stood up for her. She had to hide her grin as the hot guy she had a crush on stood up for her against the billionaire she had been sleeping with. It was a tense situation and if she smiled like a crazy person it would make Sam even angrier.
“And who are you to tell me what to do?”
“Someone who cares about Alyssa, and you’re upsetting her. You don’t need to talk to her about this now.”
“And are you going to leave? Or are you going to go into my girlfriend’s room?”
“Last I checked, she’s not your girlfriend.”
“She’s not yours either.”
“I do know that. I don’t go around calling women my girlfriend unless we’ve had an explicit conversation about it and we’re both on the same page. Go back to your room.”
Sam growled, turning on his heel and marching over to the elevator. He waited for a few beats, glaring over at the couple that had been on the verge of happy before he stormed down there, then shook his head and went inside and left. Alyssa sighed in relief, wrapping both arms around Aditya and holding him tightly against her.
He turned around in her arms, tilting her chin so she looked up in his eyes, “Are you okay?”
She nodded, “I appreciate you defending me, even if it put your job on the line.”
“I think my job is okay. Sofia doesn’t seem like she takes instructions from Sam Dalton.”
“A valid point,” she replied, leaning up to press a gentle kiss to his lips.
“So, I want to talk to you about this, but I don’t think we should out here. Can I come in, or are you done with people for today?”
“No, you should come in,” she said, a little exhausted at the thought of having to talk about this more. She wanted to talk to Addy about everything, but tonight she just needed to fall asleep with that attractive man next to her. How she would convince him to stay with her, she didn’t know.
He followed her into her room. When she started to take a seat on her bed, he stopped her, “Why don’t you change into something comfortable, and I’ll go back to my room and change too?”
She nodded and he left to change. She changed into a pair of sweatpants and an MIT hoodie. As she waited for him, she curled up on the couch and tugged a blanket over her. She was exhausted by the whole night. It was late and she wanted to sleep but she wanted to assure Aditya that she wasn’t just going to kiss him once and run. A few moments later, Aditya returned and joined her. She sat up a bit and let him take her hands.
“Do you want to talk tonight?” he asked, observing that she was exhausted and didn’t have the capacity to talk about her tumultuous relationship with Sam Dalton that night.
She shook her head, moving over so she was sitting in his lap, “I just want to cuddle up with you.”
“You can cuddle up with me.”
She let him adjust on the couch, moving so they were pressed together completely, holding onto each other tightly. They didn’t say much at all, just enjoying being near each other. She nestled her head into his chest until she couldn’t breathe. It was a delight to be suffocated by being comfortable with this man. And like she could be in his presence and not have to sleep with him for it to be okay for them to be hanging out.
After a long time of cuddling together, Aditya picked her up and took her over to set her down in her bed. She was so happy in his arms. They were so much bigger and stronger than she expected, but they were also cozy and comfortable. So comfortable that the four-second walk to her bed was enough for her to basically fall asleep.
“Good night, Lyssa,” he said, pulling the covers back with one hand, then gently depositing her into the bed.
She snuggled into her covers as he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead, “Please stay,” she whispered.
“Lyssa . . .”
“Please, Addy?”
He looked down at the beautiful woman snuggled tightly into her covers. She looked so exhausted that she would probably not remember if he left, but there was no way he was going to deny her anything she asked.
He crawled into the bed from the other side. As soon as he was laying down, Alyssa slid over and wrapped her arms around him. For a moment, they just lay together, snuggled up happily. And she was, so happy. It was blissful. She’d spent a while getting to know him, they had built a friendship, they had grown to appreciate and trust each other and then they had developed feelings. It may not have been white-hot at first, but there was a moment when she kissed him before Sam interrupted them. But mostly it was just them being comfortable together. She hadn’t felt this way with a man in years. And after a year of feeling on edge and unsure, it was perfect.
“Goodnight Addy.”
He kissed her forehead gently, “Good night.”
. . .
A few weeks later, Alyssa had ended things with Sam. She had told him it wasn’t working and she knew he had tried, but it still wouldn’t work. She didn’t want to disappoint the boys, so she said she’d be willing to hang out with them if he ever brought them to the office or if they asked he could reach out and plan a time for her to see them. Other than that, she didn’t want to be with him. It broke her heart a tiny bit. In the end, she did believe he loved some part of her.
He was distraught. She had never seen Sam Dalton cry before, but he did when she ended things. It made her cry too. They needed closure, and the conversation gave them closure. It was a little sad, but when she thought of Aditya and being able to pursue a real relationship with him, she suddenly became deliriously happy.
One morning, all those weeks later, she walked into the lab with a smile on her face and an extra scone and coffee in her hand. Aditya always got there early, so she wanted to be there before everyone else. She had a very important question to ask him since they had been seeing each other since Monaco.
They had gone on a few dates here and there but mostly had just seen each other at work. It was clear that they were meaning to get together once she had the official conversation with Sam.
“Hey Ads, sorry to interrupt your early morning,” she strolled over to him and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “But, I come bearing breakfast.”
He grinned, looking around to make sure no one else was there, then kissed her lips softly, “Thank you for breakfast. Want to go eat in your office?”
She nodded, “Yeah let’s go.”
They sat in her office, chatting about work and all of the things they had going on that day. Sam had won the competition and was named CEO, but the environmental division had gotten some incredible grants and investments and was successful. Sam promised not to fire her or Aditya and to let Sofia continue running the division.
When the clock struck 8:00, signaling when everyone else, in every other department, would be in, Alyssa popped her question, “Aditya, would you do me the honor of going to HR and becoming my official boyfriend?”
He laughed, reaching over to pull her into a hug, “I would love to.”
“Yeah?” she asked, burying her face in his chest. This man was finally going to be hers, all hers. And in return, she would be all his. Her whole life, she had been waiting to feel this safe and secure, and giddy and excited, and hot and sexy. She finally felt like she found what she was looking for, what everyone was looking for in their life. And wow, was she happy.
“Yeah,” he replied. He couldn’t believe that he was making Alyssa his girlfriend. She had become his best friend over the course of their time working together, but he had felt that spark when he met her. The spark that made him know that even if this incredible woman was only ever going to be his friend, he was going to have to try to make her his girl. He was grateful for her friendship and appreciated her so deeply, but the minute she kissed him, he knew he would not be able to return.
She gave him a gentle kiss that he ramped up into more, pulling her over into his lap. They started making out more passionately than they had ever before. They had proven their commitment to one another and now were ready to step up other areas of their relationship. She couldn’t have been more excited, but she had no idea how she was going to make it through the workday without having this man.
“Alyssa- oh my god! I’m so sorry, umm,” their coworker Charles walked in. He was clearly embarrassed, but he wasn’t going to leave just yet. He wasn’t the only one embarrassed. Aditya looked away and covered his face with his hands. All Alyssa could think about when he did it was how big that man’s hands were and how badly she wanted them back on her.
“Don’t worry Charles, we’re going to HR this morning,” she said, wishing she could just ravage him there instead of having to go to HR at all.
“Oh. Well, good. Um, as you were,” Charles wanted to leave, clearly, but he didn’t make a move to go just yet.
“It’s okay, we’re going to HR now,” Alyssa said.
“Don’t go on my account.”
“No, we’re going. We already decided on it. That’s what all the kissing was about. Probably should have waited,” she said, slipping off of her boyfriend’s lap.
Aditya kept his eyes on the floor as he took her hand as he led her past Charles to take her to the HR office. That was probably why, when they got into the elevator, they didn’t notice that Sam was in there too.
“Oh, hi Sam,” this was the first time she had seen him since they broke up. He had texted her telling her that the boys missed her, so she arranged a time to see them at the park with Jordan. But she hadn’t seen him. He looked good, but she could tell in his eyes that he was sad. Maybe not before they came in the elevator, but since they came in the elevator it was all she could see, that a man she had loved was sad and missing her. But in that moment she knew, she was fully over him.
“Hello, Alyssa. Aditya.”
Alyssa nodded, not noticing that she was still holding Aditya’s hand. Sam noticed and nodded towards them, “So, you two are together?”
Alyssa nodded again, “Yes. We’re going to HR right now.”
“Well, that’s good. I’m happy for you,” to his credit, he seemed genuine.
“Thank you, Sam,” she said, offering a smile. “And congrats on winning. You deserve this company. And so do the boys.”
He smiled, “They do. I’m glad to have secured their futures from them. If they should want this future of course.”
Alyssa smiled back at him, “Of course. Tell them hello for me.”
“I will.”
They stood awkwardly for a few moments, “Well, this is our floor.”
“Of course. Good luck in there.”
“Thank you,” Alyssa said, leading Aditya out, hand in hand.
After they went to HR and declared their relationship with all the paperwork in the world, there was a bouquet of wildflowers on her desk. Apparently, Aditya had scheduled for them to arrive in the elevator when she was talking to Sam.
“Oh, Addy!” she threw her arms around him and gave him a solid peck on the mouth. “They’re beautiful, thank you!”
“You like them?”
“I love them! They’re perfect!” she said, holding him tightly. It was so nice to be shown affection in public by the person she was dating. The flowers were huge and they were beautiful and they were her favorite kind. She couldn’t remember telling him that she loved wildflower bouquets.
Later that day, he bought her lunch. It was from their favorite bistro that they frequented when they were tired of the cafeteria, but he got her the cookie she always refused to get for herself.
After work, he walked her home, then promised to be back in an hour with a kiss. She got ready for the reservation he had made during the day, at a restaurant she had never told Sam she liked, but that Aditya had figured out without even having to ask. It wasn’t super fancy, but the way this man made her feel made her want to dress up for him. She put on the dress she had worn to the casino in Monaco, the first night they got together.
When he showed up at her apartment, his eyes lit up the way she had hoped they would, “You’re wearing the dress!”
“Is it your favorite dress?” she asked, walking over to him sexily.
“I love everything you wear, but this dress. My god, you look incredible. You look like everything I’ve ever wanted,” he was devouring her with his eyes. She felt so desired.
“Addy,” she whispered, reaching over to cup his face in her hand and guide him into a kiss with her. In that moment, she knew she had never been this blissfully happy in her life. She loved the kinky sex she’d had with Sam, but it was not even close to what she had with Aditya, and she hadn’t had sex with him. He was so committed to proving to her that he wanted her in a way that she hadn’t been wanted before that he held back and didn’t have sex with her. Now that she had a label on it, she was hoping it would happen soon. There were moments where she could hardly stand to keep her hands off the man.
She pulled away and held his hand, “You’re wonderful, you know that, right?”
He laughed, “Just trying to be as good a man as a woman like you deserves.”
“I would be so lucky to deserve how good you are to me,” she reached up and kissed him again. “I’m ready to go, are you?”
He nodded, taking her hand and leading her out to go to dinner. She had a wonderful time, realizing that this was really going to work. They were going to have a really great relationship, she knew it was her happily ever after.
And after dinner, she drew him into her bedroom and had her way with him. He was blown away by her prowess in bed. She knew her way around a man, and she was learning his body at a rapid pace. She adored him and was happy to show it by worshipping his body. While she was the more dominant of the two, he still had a few tricks up his sleeve that had her moaning and writhing beneath him.
He spent the night for the first time. He assumed he would and had brought over a bag so they could go to work together in the morning. As she fell asleep in his arms for the first time since Monaco, she felt truly at peace. Maybe it was the mind blowing sex, maybe it was the kind gestures, maybe it was that cute, kissable face. Whatever it was, she fell asleep comfortably.
That next morning, she made him breakfast in bed. They cuddled and kissed and he wasn’t early for work for the first time. It wouldn’t be the last. Alyssa Febrey could be very persuasive.
A month later, when they were going for a stroll after a date, he had something big to tell her. They had stopped walking to admire the water in Central Park, and while Alyssa was gazing out at the water and smiling, Aditya couldn’t keep it in any longer.
“Alyssa . . .” he whispered breathlessly.
“Yes?” she replied, looking up at him with hearts in her eyes.
“I love you.”
She smiled at him, that big, wide, brilliant smile. As he was pulled into a kiss, she said the words back to him. They held each other tight until she got too cold to stay out there. He took her back and made literal love to her, showing her what he had told her was true.
After the three little words were uttered, it was time to meet the parents. He brought her to Boston to celebrate Diwali with his family. His mom lent her a kurti to wear, which shocked him. His mother would never have let any of his past girlfriends wear any of her clothes. She also let Alyssa help in the kitchen. Aditya wasn’t even allowed to help cook for a holiday like Diwali. And while Alyssa was not a bad cook by any means, she had no experience with traditional Hindu dishes. His mom loved her and told him every single day that she felt that way. His dad liked her a lot, enough that he planned to take her to a Red Sox game in the spring.
Over the winter holidays, she took him home to meet her parents. He fit in with them so well. Her dad asked him to help him with a whole bunch of home improvement projects for the four days they were there. While she was in the kitchen teaching her mom some of the recipes Mrs. Bharad had taught her, Aditya was out in the living room with her dad laughing and joking as they mounted the new flatscreen on the wall. Her mom caught her smiling to herself as she turned on the stovetop.
“What’s that smile for, little miss?” her mom asked.
Alyssa looked up, blushing, “Just that this could be a preview of the rest of my life.”
“So you think he’s the one?”
She nodded, “Yeah mom, I do think he’s the one.”
Her mom looked over at her with a hint of a tear shining in her eyes, “I think he is too.”
After a year of being boyfriend and girlfriend, Aditya booked a trip for them to Monaco. Alyssa talked to Jenny, and Jenny was convinced he was going to propose back in the place where they had first fallen for each other. Jenny loved Aditya, and so did all of Alyssa’s other friends. They raved about how he treated her and told Alyssa every day that he made them believe there were good men in the world. They also insisted that he was going to propose in Monaco where they’d made their first romantic memories together.
Sure enough, they took a walk down to the very same docks where they first revealed their desires to each other. Alyssa knew her man well, and she’d never seen him this nervous. He had presented prototypes in front of the entire company and had watched the Red Sox win a World Series in seven games. Never this nervous.
“Alyssa,” he started, reaching over to take both of her hands in his and make her face him. “From the minute I met you, I knew you were special. You were so clever and such a quick learner and I thought ‘I need to know more about this woman.’ And as I got to know more about you, I found myself falling more and more for you. And here, in Monaco, I finally got to see that you felt a similar way. And from that moment, I couldn’t look back. I would do anything to be with you, Alyssa. You’re the only woman for me.”
“Aditya . . .”
“Alyssa,” he let go of one of her hands, reaching into his pocket. He knelt down and pulled out a beautiful emerald-cut diamond ring. “Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” she exclaimed, dropping to her knees and wrapping her arms around him. “Oh my god, Addy, yes, yes, yes!”
Aditya laughed and hugged her tighter, “I love you, Lyss.”
“I love you, Addy.”
He pulled away to give her a kiss, then put the ring on her finger.
“My God, this ring, Addy. It’s so beautiful.”
She let him carry her back to the same hotel, and this time they went to the same room and spent the night in the heavy throes of passion.
After a year and a half, Alyssa and Aditya were married. It was a traditional Hindu wedding and it was beautiful. She had spent the year learning the traditions from Aditya’s parents and family. Although neither she nor Aditya subscribed to any religion, his parents wanted a traditional wedding, so a traditional wedding they had. There were more people there than she had ever anticipated, but she wore a fabulous red wedding saree and it was the most beautiful wedding she had ever seen, although she was a little biased.
And by the end of their lives, they had three beautiful kids and a love that didn’t die. There were ups and downs, there were moments of heartbreak and heartache. They went through the deaths of their parents together, holding each other tight as they confronted the reality of losing the people that meant the most in their life. But before that, they had two of their beautiful children, who got to meet their grandparents and love them dearly. They lost a baby, and it broke them both to the point that they didn’t know if they could keep going. In the end, they realized they had to hang onto each other to make it through this life. They bought a house in Greenwich, spending their quality time together on the drive into the city. They built their own research laboratory that made innovations in environmental science, and built a life they loved. Their third child was a blessing, a miracle after losing one. They made sure their kids had everything they could possibly want. They took them to Monaco when they were old enough to enjoy it to show them where it all began.
It was a life she could not have imagined in her wildest dreams. Neither of them were perfect, but they were wonderful together. They had brilliant chemistry, at work and at home. Their family was beautiful, their lives were rich and full.
Alyssa got to see her children grow up and lead successful lives, with plenty of grandchildren. She couldn’t have imagined, back at the expo in Monaco, that she was going to build a life with that man who was kind enough to walk her down to the docks so she could see the beautiful sea.

Mistake III
George Weasley x reader
Little note my George Sweater comes in like a week and I am beyond ecstatic anyways here’s the fic:
After George finds comfort in Angelina Johnson instead of his fiancé, he tries to redeem himself. But will he be too late?
Part i Part ii Epilogue
Since she found George in bed with Angelina Johnson, and losing her family to the second Wizarding World War, she decided she needed a break from magic.
So, as she sat in front of a muggle man she had met earlier when she moved to London, she decided maybe this would be okay.
“So, James, what is it you do for a living again?” She asked, taking a sip of her tea.
“Oh, I’m a psychologist. Where did you say you worked again?” He responded with a question, but both of them weren’t great at small talk.
“Oh, uh, I was a teacher. I taught at a private school. Rich kids are quite pretentious I’ve found.” She giggled a little, setting her warm cup down and focusing her attention on the man in front of her.
He smiled back, basking in the comfortable silence between the two. “Hey, do you wanna walk around the park a block from here? It’s kind of small, but the scenery is beautiful.” James asked, and she nodded, grabbing her bag as she stood up.
“I would love to.”
Since then, James and Y/n’s relationship had been going great. They made it official a little over six months ago, and decided they were ready to move in together.
They moved into a nice two story home, with a huge backyard, a library for Y/n, and a bay window. Y/n’s dream home.
Six more months had passed, and James was finally ready to propose. The two had lived together for a while now, and he found that he lived, slept, and felt better when she was there. And she felt the same.
“Y/n? Come out with me for a minute?” James asked, gearing up to bring her to the backyard, where he had set the decorations.
“What’s up James?” She asked, linking her arm through his as they began their walk out the porch.
“Y/n, we’ve only known each other for a year, but it felt like a life time. We know everything about each other, even if most of it was a surprise, specifically the whole magic part,” they laughed lightly at that. “But, it never made me love you any less. In fact, I think it made me love you just a little bit more.” He chuckled, bending down to one knee and pulling out the box.
“So, Y/n Y/m/n Black, will you marry me?” James asked, little tears prickling his eyes.
“Yes,” she happily sobbed, watching him slip the ring on her finger.
Y/n sat on the couch of the house she shared with James, holding her scrapbook of moving photos she had found while cleaning. Flipping through the pages she found multiple of her and the twins, during a prank, or just simply hanging out. She always had a camera with her, just in case something worthy of keeping as a physical memory happened. And it usually did.
As she was flipping through she came upon a photo of George and Fred standing in front of Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, the day before opening. Tears began to flood her eyes as she thought back to that memory. “I miss him.” She muttered lightly, stroking the photo with her thumb.
Suddenly, George appeared in her living room, holding the same photo.
“George! What the bloody hell are you doing here? How did you find me?” She exclaimed, standing up to face him.
“Well, I uh, I charmed that photo, so whenever you stroked the photo, I would appear. I meant to give it to you for your birthday as a surprise, but you found it first. And well, here we are.” He responded, rubbing the back of his neck. The diamond on her finger caught the light and drew George’s attention to her hand. “You’re engaged?” He asked, suddenly seeing all the photos of her and James in frames on the walls.
“Yes. I am. Happily. And you aren’t going to ruin it.” She demanded, reminiscing on some of the memories. She didn’t want to admit it, but she wasn’t as happy as she was when she was with George. But, he made the mistake. Not her. He has to live with the consequences.
“I miss you too by the way.” He smiled, watching her expression change.
“What can this photo hear me now?” She asked, angrily throwing the photo down onto the scrapbook.
“No, I just wanted to know if you missed me. I could kind of tell, you get this look in your eyes.” He smirked, watching her face fall.
“Dammit George! Get the hell out. You don’t belong here.” She shouted, pushing his chest.
“You aren’t happy with him! You miss me! Admit it! I know. I messed up. I shouldn’t have slept with Angelina! It was a horrible mistake. But I still love you. And I know you do too. You can go off and get married to this muggle git, but he won’t make you feel the way I do. He won’t make your heart swell the way I do. He won’t make you laugh as hard as I do. He won’t make you scream as loud as I do. He’s not as good as I am.” George finished, watching for her reaction.
She rolled her eyes at the ignorance that was practically radiating off of the man. How dare he come into her home she shares with her fiancé, (well, it was kind of her fault he’s here, but she didn’t know it was charmed.) talking about how much better he is than her loving partner, who from what she knew, hasn’t cheated on her.
“That’s not fair. James has treated me much better than you have in the year we’ve been together. A big example, he didn’t cheat on me. Secondly, I’ve never been in trouble because of him. He’s made me feel safe since we met. He cares about me. He doesn’t make me feel insecure like you did that day. He loves me. You never did George.” Y/n cried, watching his shoulders slump.
“No, that’s not fair. I was in a bad place. I just lost my brother for Godric’s sake!”
“So you slept with his ex girlfriend!” Y/n shouted.
“I wasn’t thinking clearly! And I did love you! I still do! Please, reconsider. I love you. So much. And I can’t lose you again.” George pleaded, trying his puppy dog eyes.
“This is a big commitment George. You’re asking me to leave my fiancé. For someone who cheated on me. But, I love you. And if we’re being frank, I don’t love James as much as I thought I did. Just give me a few days to break it off and get my stuff.” Y/n sighed, watching as George’s expressions changed.
“W-wait you’re serious?” George laughed a little, in disbelief.
“Yes you dingbat. Now don’t make me change my mind.” Y/n giggled as George threw her over his shoulder and apparated out of the home.

Epilogue: Like Real People do.
The lace of your dress is itchy.
You had gone dress shopping with the girls and you had tried a bunch on before settling on the one you chose. It was a long sleeved chiffon dress with a slim bodice that flared into a puffy skirt stopping just above your ankle. It had small floral details along the top and the sleeves. At the time, it had been perfect. You had felt beautiful, and you cried thinking about seeing Spencer for the first time down the aisle in it. But right now it itches.
Why did it itch?
It wasn’t that you were getting cold feet. You wanted nothing more than to be Dr. Y/n Reid but for some reason you couldn’t bring yourself to move when it was time. You were standing looking out the window when Hotch came to find you.
“Y/n, are you ready? Everyone’s waiting.” He says, before pausing. “You look beautiful, why are you upset?”
You didn’t even notice the tears falling. You quickly try to quell them to not ruin your makeup you just had done. “I just--when I pictured my wedding. I didn’t think my parents would be gone and that I’d have to walk alone. And thinking of everyone’s eyes on me is freaking me out.” You sniffle a bit, eyes going wide when the idea comes to you. “Will you walk with me?” You ask.
“You want me to walk you down the aisle?” Hotch asks, shocked. You immediately back track.
“You don’t have to—I should’ve asked before. I just didn’t want to go alone—“
“Y/n…” he says, looking at you sincerely. “Nothing would make me happier than to give you away, if that’s what you want.” You look at him, seeing he is also misty-eyed. You nod, pulling him into a tight hug.
————————————
You and Spencer are married November 10th. After months of arguing over the date of your wedding. Him wanting a fall wedding and you wanting a winter one, November felt like the perfect compromise. In the end, he was right just like he always was with your wedding being held in a forested area near the Potomac. The tall trees with the red, orange and brown leaves falling, the view of the lake and the yellow string lights you had around the ceremony. It was breathtaking. Fall had definitely been the way to go. You also argued about writing your own vows. You didn’t want to and he did. In the end he was right again. His vows to you were beautiful, he talked about how some believed soulmates were 500 years in the making and able to transcend lifetimes. And that while he was a man of science, upon meeting you had been the first time he actually believed that. And that he was excited to spend this lifetime with you just as much as he was excited for the next. You tried to hold the tears that were falling involuntarily as the minister announced it was time for your vows.
“Um, I don’t quite know how to follow that.” You chuckle nervously, inducing a laugh from the people at your ceremony. “My father used to tell me every time I was upset that ‘a lot of rotten luck means good luck was on the way’. For most of my life, I didn’t believe him. I didn’t believe in luck, just in circumstance and that I was a victim of just really bad circumstance.” You say, you gripping Spencer’s hand tighter. His hand reaches up to wipe at a stray tear that falls from your face. It’s in that moment you remember one of the biggest reasons you loved Spencer. He was always ready to comfort you, whether you needed it or not. The action just makes more tears fall. “It wasn’t until I met you that I believed in luck. Meeting you has been the single most luckiest thing to ever happen to me and I plan on spending everyday treating you like I am the luckiest woman alive because when I’m with you, I am.” You tear up, Spencer hands move to wipe your tears again only this time you lean in to kiss him which he happily obliges.
“Save it til the end guys!” You hear Derek call over the crowd, which induces a chuckle from everyone including the two of you.
——————————
You still worked well together. Better than ever actually. The first couple of weeks were awkward as someone would call for Dr. Reid and you both would turn. Spencer would always look at you, eyes shining with admiration every time it happened but after a while, everyone knew to say your first names when they needed your attention.
You meet Spencer’s dad about 6 months after you’re married. A case takes you back to Las Vegas and unfortunately to his offices as one of the victims recently hired him for a case. Spencer absolutely refused to go talk to him, you tried to convince him to but in the end, you understood why he couldn’t. Which was why, you and Derek walked into his office that day. Derek reaches to shake his hand.
“Walter, I don’t know if you remember me from before but I’m SSA Derek Morgan and this is my associate,Dr. Y/n Reid.”
He then let’s go of Derek before turning his smile and hand towards you. “Reid, huh?” He says. “What’re the chances?”
“Slim, actually. I’m married to your son.” You say shaking his hand. He looks at you in shock as does Derek. You had told him you weren’t going to say anything but upon meeting him you decided you didn’t want to beat around the bush.
“Spencer?” He says, confused. You nod before getting into the actual nature of your visit. As Derek goes through the questions you had for him, you feel his eyes not leaving you. Once you’re done, the two of you thank him for his time before starting to leave. He calls out to you, you nod to Derek to wait for you outside.
The man looks at you, confused. “Sorry I’m trying to wrap my head around this. You’re married to Spencer?” You nod. “How long?” He asked.
“We’ve been married for 6 months and together about 2 years now.” You say, the man looks at you sullen. “I told him we should at least invite you but at the end of the day it was his decision to make and I respect him for it.”
“And is he doing okay?” He asked, “Spencer?”
“We’re taking care of each other.” You say. “But if you want to know about him, you have to reach out yourself. I lost both of my parents so family is really important to me. I don’t want either of you to miss out on more but at the end of the day it’s his decision to reconnect or not. And I’ll respect and support whatever he decides. Thanks for your help, Walter.” You say before leaving.
----------------------------------------------
About 8 months into your marriage is when you meet Abigail Reyes.
She’s a 5 year old whose parents hid her in a closet while the unsub murdered her family. Hotch warned you before the case not to get too attached and you tried, you really did but when she looked at you with those giant almond colored eyes, you couldn’t help yourself. You conducted all her interviews and watched her down at the station, drawing with her, you couldn’t help the tug at your heartstrings. Here was a kid who went through the same exact thing you had yet still had the capability to smile brightly at you.
That night as you and Spencer settled into the hotel bed, you asked him.
“Does she have someone?” Spencer looks at you, confused.
“Who, Doll?”
“Abigail. The vic’s daughter. Does she have someone or will she go into the system?” You say before rattling off quickly. “Because I know we haven’t talked much about kids but I know we both want them and maybe adopting isn’t what you had in mind but--”
His arms are hugging you instantly. “Sweetheart, I’m sorry. Her grandparents live in North Carolina and are probably already on their way for her.”
“Oh.” You say, trying not to sound disappointed. She was still going to a loving home even if it wasn’t yours.
“Do you want children?” He asks you, you shrug, silently. “Then whenever you’re ready, I am also ready. I can’t think of something I’d want more than a family with you.” He kisses your temple before rolling over to sleep.
You don’t remember when exactly but you turn off your reminder for birth control.
--------------------------------------------------------
You’re about 10 months into your marriage when you start to feel sick.
You’re sitting in Penelope’s bat cave drinking coffee and talking about the latest Doctor Who episode when the sudden wave of nausea. You were going to barf right now. You looked around for something before grabbing the nearest trash can. Garcia watches in shock as you lose your lunch.
“Are you ok? You’ve been sick a lot.” She says, concerned.
“Yea, I’m fine. This bug going around has been kicking my butt.”
“No one else’s lasted as long though.” She points out laughing. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were pregnant.” She laughed. You looked up shocked. What was the date? You think to yourself.
September 14th.
You were late.
“Shit!”  You say out loud. Garcia looks at you shocked.
“Oh my god! Are you--?”
“I have to take a test. Please don’t tell the others, especially Spen. i just-- I need to find out first.”
“You told me I wouldn’t have to keep any more secrets for you.”Garcia pouts.
“I know! Just one tiny one though until I can get in with my doctor?”
“Fine!” She exclaims. “You so owe me.” She says.
“I know. And If I am Garcie, You’re godmother, I promise.” You say, bolting out her office, smiling.
Garcia ended up right though. She always was.
------------------------------------------
You’ve decided pregnancy sucks but Spencer made it a bit better.
Spencer was, of course, over the moon when you told him. Immediately pulling you into a tight hug and spinning you. The two of you cried for at least a couple hours at the thought of your growing family.
As soon as you found out, you went to Hotch handing him the letter of resignation you drafted earlier yesterday night. He looked at it shocked before looking at you sadly. “Why, Y/N? I thought this was what you wanted?”
“I’m pregnant.” You say, Hotch’s sad expression immediately turns soft and happy. He pulls you into a tight hug. “I love this job but I saw what it did to my parents and I can’t do that to my family. Someone’s gotta take one for the team and since Spencer is such an asset, I think it’s me. I’ve already accepted a job to teach Criminal Psychology at Georgetown. Don’t try and stop me.”You say, Hotch immediately nods in understanding, putting his arms around you again.
“You’re going to be a fantastic mother.” He says. You can’t help the heavy sobs that rack through you.
———————————————
Autumn Alice Reid or as the team has started affectionately calling her, Double A, is born June 25th, despite her namesake.
You and Spencer had been sitting in the house you had purchased months ago in preparation for your daughter, playing chess when it happened. It was his move when you said.
“Spen, we have to go to the hospital. My water broke.”
“Y/N, I’m not falling for that again you say it every single time you’re losing.”
“I know, but this time I’m serious.” You stood up to reveal your extremely drenched pants and Spencer's eyes widened in shock.
“We’re having a baby!” He said, excitedly standing to hug you.
“We are. Now we should leave because I’d prefer to do it in a hospital.”
Childbirth is just as heinous and terrible as people say it was but the end result made it so much more worth it. Autumn laid sleeping in your arms now, her little fist grasping Spencer’s pinky. You never in your life thought it was possible to love something so fiercely, so instantly. But here she was, your own personal cryptid.
The team, of course, came in almost the instant the nurses let them. Everyone passes her around Godparents, Derek and Penelope, going first.
“She’s going to be such a little genius, isn’t she?” Penelope says, holding her little hand while Derek cradles her in his arms.
“Yea, and she’s going to ride that all the way to Cal-tech, aren’t you, sweetheart?” Spencer says, grabbing her from Derek.
“Or most likely Stanford.” You pipe up, from your hospital bed. Spencer narrows his eyes at you and you narrow right back at him. That was an argument for another day.
———————————
You woke up to an empty bed. Which isn’t uncommon, Spencer almost always was the one who tended to your daughter when she woke crying. You told him that you should switch off every once and a while but he would always dead that idea, saying you needed your sleep. He always put you before himself.
You padded along the cold, hardwood floors until you were at the open door of the nursery. The sight before you made you wish you also had eidetic memory, Spencer cradling your sleeping child in one hand, reading softly to her from the book in his other hand. As you moved closer to him, you could make out what the book was.
“Spen, we have children’s books. You don’t have to read her Tale of Two Cities.” You whisper, smiling softly at him.
“I know, but she doesn’t seem to like those. Tale of Two Cities seems to put her to sleep faster.”
“Well, Tale of Two Cities puts me to sleep too, so I get it.” You chuckle softly at the narrowed eyes Spencer gives you, before you sit on the ground next to the chair he’s sitting in with your daughter. “Read it to me too?” You ask, laying your head on his thigh.
He nods, smiling softly at the two of you.
“It was the best of times, It was the worst of times....” He starts, you drift off almost immediately.
Finally at peace in life.

Hello!! It is @rare-egg-hunt month which means we are officially celebrating all our Solas rare pairs!
If you're following this blog you may be somewhat aware I've been "painting" my eggs all through March. Starting next Monday I'm going to be pushing out a multichaptered story built around 12 of the prompts from the Rare Egg Hunt. It's called Cheating the Dread Wolf and will focus on the post-Trespasser love story of Maria Cadash, Solas, and Varric Tethras.
Maria Cadash hung up the Inquisitor's mantle for the Viscountess' crown, but she's unable to stop her desperate and impossible struggle to stop Fen'Harel from destroying the world both her husband and daughter inhabit. The fact Varric, Maria, and Solas are all madly in love with each other just means she may have enough of an edge to win this game.
In other words, everyone is poly and happy but first there's some shit they've gotta go through. I promise there will be angst, fluff, smut, dad Varric, dad Solas, and mama Cadash. Plus an absolutely ADORABLE baby as a treat.
I also have a playlist to go with it! Here's a list of all my songs and why I've picked them as a sneak peek!
Things That Stop You Dreaming by Passenger
If you can't be what you want You learn to be the things you're not If you can't get what you need You learn to need the things that stop you dreaming Oh the things that stop you dreaming
The PINING at the beginning of this story is outrageous. It is honestly a sequel to two fics, the first of which was written by the lovely @blarfkey who inspired, enable, and beta'd this entire project. (seriously. It would never have happened without her and I owe her so much for the idea and the love she's poured into it alongside me).
The two fics can be found in the series Three Liars Mend Broken Hearts on AO3. It shows the way Solas and Maria can't seem to stay away from each other and the ill advised sexy times that happens as a result (yes these are both smut with plot and feelings). So by the time we start Cheating the Dread Wolf they've already acted on their feelings even though they shouldn't and they're all a bit of a mess.
Rest of the playlist below!
Never Really Over by Katy Perry
Two years, and just like that, my head still takes me back Thought it was done, but I guess it's never really over Oh, we were such a mess, but wasn't it the best? Thought it was done, but I guess it's never really over
I revisit the theme of not being able to let go and move on a lot in this story - in both good and bad ways. Varric, in particular, is completely unwilling to give up on Solas no matter what. Solas is unable to let go of his past. Maria can’t let go of her distrust. It’s all a mess.
Power Over Me by Dermot Kennedy
So we hide away and never tell You decide, if darkness knows you well That lesson of love, all that it was I need you to see You got that power over me
This is such a good smut song. I will live and die on this hill. It’s on my smut playlist too. ANYWAY. This is a good song for Maria and Solas. Also. Smut.
That Man by Caro Emerald
Ooh that man is like a flame And ooh that man plays me like a game My only sin is I can't win Ooh I wanna love that man
This is a recommendation from @blarfkey and is the quintessential Varric romance song. I picked this one for a very specific chapter where Varric in effect tricks Solas into a tea party with him and Varric and Maria’s daughter.
Hold My Girl by George Ezra
I've got time, I've got love Got confidence you'll rise above Give me a minute to hold my girl Give me a minute to hold my girl
This is actually for a chapter that mostly focuses on parenthood and how it brings our trio together. It’s very angsty and heartwrenching and I love it so much.
You are the Reason by Calum Scott
I don't wanna hide no more I don't wanna cry no more Come back I need you to hold me (You are the reason) Be a little closer now Just a little closer now Come a little closer I need you to hold me tonight
This is THE OT3 song and the unofficial theme song of this fucking fic. I have listened to it on repeat more than anything else on this playlist.
Me and the Devil by the Fratellis
Tell one last beautiful lie for me Make all your promises rhyme for me Keep me in line but do it honestly Make it real, make it slow, stay alive for me Come on, babe where the line goes dead I'll be fire, I'll be rain, I'll be joy, I'll be dread Come on, baby don't be shy All I want is you and I Out on the street I'll be every face There'll be no man alive That can take my place
This song just gives me Solas related chills. I cannot with it. These two verses in particular scream Varric, Solas, and Maria. This is also on the playlist at approximately the part of the story where shit starts going down. Also another @blarfkey recommendation.
Move by Saint Motel
This girl, this beautiful girl, with eyes the size of the o-o-ocean. This man, this dutiful man, he's got these mixed up emo-o-o-tions. I want it, can't have it. Oh I can hardly stand it. Oh what's a man to do... Gotta get up, I gotta get up. Move!
A recent addition to this playlist thanks to @paisleybees who sent this to me as I was writing a chapter that fit it PERFECTLY. I actually picture it as a Varric/Solas song for this work.
Monster by Paramore
I'll stop the whole world, I'll stop the whole world From turning into a monster and eating us alive Don't you ever wonder how we survive? Well now that you’re gone, the world is ours
Another “shit is getting real” song and another @blarfkey recommendation. This is a McFighterson Cadash song for sure. It’s also what I picture for the sole action sequence in this fic.
Poison and Wine by The Civil Wars
You only know what I want you to I know everything you don't want me to Oh your mouth is poison, your mouth is wine You think your dreams are the same as mine Oh I don't love you but I always will
Enemies and Lovers. Enemies and lovers. Need I say more?! This is SUCH a good song for that trope!
Silence by Marshmello (featuring Khalid)
I found peace in your violence Can't tell me there's no point in trying I'm at one, and I've been quiet for too long I found peace in your violence Can't tell me there's no point in trying I'm at one, and I've been silent for too long
Circling back around to themes of letting go and holding on. This kind of starts the happy ending bit of this work (YES I SWEAR THERE’S A HAPPY ENDING).
This Year’s Love by David Gray
This year's love had better last 'Cause who's to worry if our hearts get torn When that hurt gets thrown Don't ya know this life goes on? Won't ya kiss me on that midnight street? Sweep me off my feet Singing, "ain't this life so sweet?"
HAPPY ENDING. A bittersweet but ultimately hopeful one <3
Glitter and Gold by Barns Courtney
Do you walk in the valley of kings? Do you walk in the shadow of men Who sold their lives to a dream? Do you ponder the manner of things In the dark? The dark, the dark, the dark I am flesh and I am bone Arise, ting ting, like glitter and gold I've got fire in my soul Rise up, ting ting, like glitter
This is for the epilogue. It’s called the Dread Wolf Cub Rises and I refuse to give any other details.
BONUS
Problem by Natalia Kills
I'm your dream girl This is real love But you know what they say about me... That girl is a problem Girl is a problem Girl is a problem problem
Bea Cadash shows up a lot in this fic with her background sweet angel boyfriend Cole. There’s been a couple times where I need to write Bea and this is just the perfect song to capture her goddamn attitude.
Anyway! Happy egg hunting!

OBSERVER NOT PROFILER EPILOGUE SERIES PT3
Summary: Life was beautiful, you were so happy, so content, until it was all flipped on your head
Warnings: mentions of death, cursing
A/N: Flashback time ;) Sorry for the short chapter!
Tumblr media
The moment you saw her face your mind spiraled, filling in a few holes from the past as you hit the ground cold.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The feeling of her warm hands on your cold and bloody body sent shivers down your spine. Her short fingernails are painted a icy grayish blue color which clashed her fiery red hair, which was tightly tied up.
Pointless whines and screams of help escaped your gagged mouth while she continued to look over your body.
“Why would you do this to her? She’s a girl!”
She shouted at the man holding the knife that has sliced its way across your body.
“A minor setback dearie. I’ll let her go when he tells me to. In the meantime, why don’t you go ahead and fix her up? Get her something to eat huh?”
“Oh don’t you dare talk to me like I’m a little maid you piece of shit! You go cook her something and I’ll help her. Now get out of my sight before I stab you.”
He holds his hands up in faux defeat before setting the knife down at a table next to you and walking out.
Once he’s gone, she immediately unties you, but holds your wrists gently as you scream out and try to hit anything.
“Hey. Hey. HEY!”
She manages to grab your attention the third time. Her blue eyes pierce into yours as she slowly let’s go of your wrists.
“I get it okay? I understand the pain you’re going through. I promise, but I am going to help you. I swear. Now let me treat your wounds.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You couldn’t tear your eyes from hers as she continues to pummel the man into the ground. She was still so hot even when beating him up.
“You got this Honey!”
One year since you began dating her. one and a half since you were...
She glanced to you with a smirk, her freckles glittering in the sweat that trailed down her face. Her long red hair was tied up in that classic ponytail it was almost always in, a few stray hairs sticking to her forehead, a bit darker than the rest once drenched in sweat.
She was wearing her favorite exercise outfit, a pair of sweatpants and one of your exercise bras. She had told you numerous times that you were never getting that bra back yet you always ended up taking it off of her at the end of the night.
You felt safe with her.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She looked at you like you were worth a million dollars. Treated you like a human. Kissed you like the sweetest chocolate candy in the world.
“Hey. I love you forever. You know that right?”
She asked, intertwining her finger in yours as you both laid out naked on the abandoned house’s roof. You smiled, squeezing her hand gently before turning to press another kiss to her smooth lips.
“I know darling. I love you too.”
You respond smiling a fully real smile. They were rarely real anymore. Not since...
“Hey, I’m going to get you out of here okay? Then you have to promise me to forget. Forget everything. Even me. Especially me.”
“Babe. We talked about this. We’re getting out together.”
“No.” Her voice was strong, but still quiet as to not alert the others. “I’m in too deep Y/N. You don’t understand I have to stay. They’re... They’re all I have left and I’m all they have. I can’t leave. But you can! And you will. And the moment you get somewhere safe you do exactly what I taught you and you forget.”
You couldn’t repress the tears that streamed down your face as she pulled you close, her icy cold hands rested on your equally cold back as you sobbed silently as the thuds of knives on wooden targets ring out beneath you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You woke up with a start. A soft beeping of a machine tracked your heartbeat. Your hands immediately flew to your swollen tummy as Spencer shot up beside you.
“Hey! Hey! Hey! You’re safe Y/N, you’re alright. Everything’s okay.”
You break out in tears as he wraps his arms around you, kissing your forehead repeatedly.
“What happened?”
You ask after he kisses you twice.
“You passed out in Garcia’s office, the baby is okay, you’re okay, Doctors just think it’s stress. You have to take it easy though, you can still help with the case but not right now.”
You sigh, leaning back into your temporary bed and shut your eyes momentarily but all you can see is her.
“I knew her. That girl.”
He looks at you, confused and shocked as you open your eyes again.
“When I passed out. I remembered some things that I think I forced myself to forget. But her, I knew her. I dated her for six years. Spencer what does this all mean!?”
You shouted, tears streaming down your face as you sobbed. Spencer wrapped his arms around you regardless of the confusion that screamed at him not to.
“You kept repeating a name while you were out.”
You pulled away, looking at him in suspect, he looks deep in your eyes, pausing for a moment before speaking.
“Maxine.”

An Old Life Meets A New Masterlist
Chapter 30: Epilogue
An 18-year-old Harper Ackles was currently painting a landscape on her wall. She had just returned from her therapist appointment after school and wanted to do some painting. JJ suggested something with horses, so Harper immediately got to work.
Since her first mural years ago, her walls all had different paintings on them now. One wall was the entirety of Central Park, another had a few paintings of flowers of all sorts, her back wall still had Time Square and below it was the Texas Capitol, but the current painting she was working on was a landscape of a grass field with wild horses.
JJ was doing her homework on Harper's bed when she looked up to Harper, "Hey, Sis?"
Harper turned from the wall, "Yeah?"
"I’ve done everything, but I still don't understand this stuff. Can you explain it one more time, pretty please?" asked JJ, flashing her puppy eyes at her sister.
Harper chuckled and turned back to her painting, "PEMDAS stands for parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. You work through a math problem in that order, starting with-"
"That I understand, but the order is multiplication then division and addition then subtraction. What happens if the problem has more than one of each?" JJ pointed at her book, "Like this one has (2+9) - (9-2).”
Harper smiled at JJ, "The order of operations still stands. Parenthesis first from left to right then subtract them."
JJ stared at her book for a moment before smacking her forehead, "Oh, man. I'm so stupid!"
Harper let out a laugh, "No you're not, JJ. You're in 4th grade. It's difficult at first but the more you do it, the easier it gets," she pointed at JJ with her paint brush, "Don't forget, I use letters and words in Calculus. You're lucky to still have just numbers."
"It’s only because you're also old," JJ mumbled.
Harper set her paint supplies down and stepped down from the latter, "What was that?"
JJ held up her hands in defense, "Nothing, I said nothing."
Harper stood with her hands on her hips, "Yeah right. Just because you're 10 doesn't mean I can't still treat you like a kid. Come here!"
Harper lunged at JJ, but JJ jumped out of the way last minute. Harper chased her around her room, screaming and laughing, until they both got too tired and fell to Harper's bed, laughing at their childish games.
JJ laid on her stomach and looked at the landscape mural, "I really like this one. It feels like I'm actually there. Like I can feel the breeze and hear the horses."
"That was sort of the point," Harper stared at her painting, "Besides, it would be bad if you didn't like it. This will be your room someday after all."
JJ's eyes widened, "What? Really?"
"Well, I'll be off to college soon. And as a teen, you'll want your own space. Believe me, I know," Harper rolled her eyes.
"Harper, there's mail for you!" Jensen yelled from the living room.
JJ turned to Harper, "I'll race you."
Harper shook her head, "No, not today. I’m not really feeling it."
Then Harper shot up from the bed and ran to the door with a laugh. JJ chased after her to catch up. Harper jumped down the stairs followed by JJ. Jensen, Jared, and Genevieve turned from the couch to see the commotion from the girls.
"Oh, you totally cheated!" JJ exclaimed.
"I'm the oldest, I do not cheat. I just outsmart," Harper stuck her tongue out at JJ.
JJ scoffed, "I'd call waiting until you got to the bedroom door cheating."
"Well I call it strategy."
"Okay, girls. That's enough," Danneel said stepping between the two, "JJ, did you finish your homework?"
"Well, um, about that..." JJ chuckled nervously.
Danneel pointed upstairs, "When you finish, then you can come downstairs."
JJ rolled her eyes, groaned, and stomped upstairs.
Harper chuckled, "Well, she'll be a delightful teenager if she's like this now."
Jensen stood from the couch and walked up to Harper, holding out a letter, "Guess who it's from."
Harper took the letter with a shaky hand and looked at it with a gasp, "NYU?"
Jensen nodded, "You should open it."
Harper hesitated, "But what if I didn't get accepted?"
Jared stood and walked over to Harper, "And what if you did? You'll never know until you open it."
Genevieve walked up and wrapped an arm around Harper's shoulder, "Besides, whatever it says we'll support you in any decision you make."
Harper smiled at her family and sighed, "Okay, I'll open it."
She took a few steps forward and slowly began to open the letter. Once it was opened and the pulled the letter out, she paused.
Jensen walked forward and laid a hand on her shoulder, "What's wrong?"
"I'm scared. I know that I want to go to NYU because their art and education program is so good, but what if they didn't like my application? What if they think my paintings and drawings are average or even below average? What if-"
"What if you're stalling?" Jared interrupted her.
Harper rolled her eyes and chuckled, "Yeah, thanks Uncle Jared."
He smiled, "Anytime, kiddo."
Jensen shook his head at Jared then turned back to Harper, "Babygirl, open the letter. No matter what it says, you know we all think you're an amazing artist."
Harper let out a long sigh and nodded, "Okay."
She unfolded the letter and started to read. Her hand slowly came up to cover her mouth and she turned from Jensen, walking away from him. Jensen turned back to Danneel with a sad look on his face and shook his head. Jared and Gen exchanged an upset look as well.
Then Harper turned back around, uncovered her mouth, and quietly said, "I got in."
Jensen took a step forward, a surprised looked took over his face, "You what?"
"Dad, I got in! I'm going to NYU!" Harper yelled out.
Jensen ran up to her and picked her up, spinning her in a circle. Danneel ran over and hugged Harper as well. Jared and Gen doing the same.
"Read it to us, Harper," Genevieve said excitedly.
"Okay, okay," she cleared her throat, "Dear Miss Ackles, We are glad you have considered NYU and have completed the first step in joining the Bobcat family. We would like to be the first to congratulate you on your admission to New York University. After thoroughly looking through your application and artwork, we would also like to offer you a full ride to our university. We look forward to hearing from you soon and we'll see you this fall. Sincerely, The Director of Admissions and Recruitment"
Everyone was cheering and hugging Harper. They were so happy for her. She is following her dreams, continuing school, and moving forward with her life.
Danneel hugged her tightly, "Harper, I'm so proud of you. You're so grown up now, going off to college and starting your life. I knew you were destined for greatness."
Harper smiled, "Thanks, Mom."
Everyone suddenly paused. Harper's face got bright red as she realized what had just came from her mouth.
Danneel held her out at arms length, "What was that?"
Harper shook her head, "Nothing, nothing. Sorry, I didn't mean...it just slipped. I'm sorry...I shouldn't have-"
Danneel hugged her again, "Harper, it's okay. If you feel that way, it's completely okay with me. If you want to call me Dee or Mom, it's your choice."
Harper backed away and looked down, a tear falling down her face, "I've actually wanted to call you Mom for a few months now. I just didn't know how to tell you."
Danneel smiled, "Well if you ask me, I think that was perfect timing."
Harper ran her fingers through her hair, "I mean, now or never right?"
Just then, JJ ran down the stairs to interrupt them, "I was kind of standing behind the way and listening. But Harper," she ran to hug her, "Congrats! I'm so proud of you, Sis."
Arrow and Zeppelin ran into the room as well. Arrow walked up to give Harper a hug, as did Zeppelin.
Harper bent down to look at them, "Well, it looks like you three will finally all have your own rooms in a couple months."
Zeppelin looked at her confusingly, “But I already have my own room.”
“Yeah,” replied Harper, “But now you won’t be across from both Arrow and JJ.”
Zeppelin crossed his arms and mumbled, “Maybe then I won’t get my nails paints every weekend anymore.”
“Nice try,” Arrow spoke up, “This weekend, JJ and I are having a makeup party! And you, little brother, are at the top of the guest list.”
Zeppelin groaned in response, which got a laugh out of everyone in the room.
The rest of the afternoon was spent celebrating Harper's admission into NYU. Jensen went out and got a cake, Danneel made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner as it's Harper's favorite, and Jared and Gen brought their kids over for a pool party.
Harper felt so loved and filled with so much joy that day. Things were changing, and they were changing for the better.
A couple months later, Harper's room was packed up and she was off to New York. Jensen, Danneel, Jared, Genevieve, Tom, Shep, Odette, JJ, Arrow, and Zeppelin all took her to the airport to say goodbye.
"I promise, I'll call you when I land and I'll send you pictures of my dorm," Harper said as she hugged Jensen and Danneel goodbye.
Jensen wiped his tears, "Please do. I want to see everything."
Danneel kissed her cheek, "Just please check in with us whenever you can."
"I will," Harper laughed.
She hugged Jared and Gen, then their kids, and finally the Ackles kids. JJ kept her arms around Harper's neck, trying to make her stay.
"JJ, I have to go," Harper said trying to pull JJ off.
JJ kept her grip though and continued to cry, "No, you can't leave."
Harper felt her heartstrings beginning to pull, Is this how I felt when Dad left?
Harper held her sister at arms length, "JJ, I can promise you this. I will come back. I'm not leaving forever. You'll see me for Thanksgiving. Just promise me something okay? Be good, keep studying hard, and stay out of trouble. If you ever need help on your homework, call me. I'll try my best to help you over the phone."
JJ sighed and nodded, "Will you call me when you land?"
Harper looked up at Jensen and they exchanged a smile.
She turned back to JJ and smiled at her then bringing her into a hug, "Of course, Sis. I'll call as soon as the plane touches the ground."
Harper stood up from hugging her, tears were flowing from both of them. Harper then walked back up to Jensen.
"Harper, I'm so proud of you. You're such a smart girl, and you've really grown up," he said.
Harper shrugged, "I learned from the best, Dad."
Jensen laughed, "Be safe, okay?" then hugged her.
Harper hugged him back, "I will. I love you, Dad."
"I love you too, babygirl."
Harper pulled away from the hug and grabbed her carry on bag. She waved goodbye at the Padelecki's and Ackles' families and walked towards the security area.
Both families started to leave the airport, but Jensen didn't move.
"Honey, is everything okay?" asked Danneel.
Jensen wrapped an arm around her, "Yeah, Dee. Everything is perfect," he kissed her temple, "Our little girl is all grown up now."
Harper's flight was 3 hours, but felt quick. She touched down in New York, got her bags from the baggage claim, and walked out of the airport. She called home to let her know she had gotten there safely, and JJ was very excited to hear from Harper.
She got a taxi and it took her to NYU. She checked in, got her dorm keys, and put her bags in her room. She took a few pictures of her room and sent them to Jensen.
She sat down on her bed and thought for a moment. She stood up and searched her carry on for her sketchbook and her pencils. Then she grabbed her dorm key and left the dormitories as quickly as possible. She took a taxi and went to the cemetery. Once she arrived, she took a stroll to the corner where her mother was.
Harper sat down next to the headstone, opened up her sketchbook, and sighed, "Hi, Mom. It's been a while, huh? Let me catch you up on everything that's happened."
The End

Coming off of true trainwrecks the likes of Mars of Destruction and Skelter Heaven, I actually came out of Dark Cat with a sense of respect and gratitude for its competence.
For the uninitiated, Dark Cat is a notoriously bad OVA from 1991 that you will see listed in many Worst Anime Ever countdowns. It follows 2 brothers, “dark cats” Hyoi and Rui, who investigate supernatural happenings and purify evil with their somewhat undefined powers of shapeshifting and increased strength/agility. The majority of the story in the OVA is about a school girl named Aimi, who is pining after her childhood friend Koizumi, who since the rejection and sudden death of his crush, has been suffering a depressive episode and ignoring her. Hyoi and Rui sense dark forces are manifesting at the school, and they keep an eye on Aimi while fighting off the increasingly brazen appearances of demonic enemies.
A monstrous ex-dark cat named Jukokubo is revealed to be manipulating Aimi with his dark powers, and Hyoi and Rui fight him, but not before Aimi succumbs to the evil magic -- as well as her own violent jealousy and overprotectiveness of Koizumi -- and transforms into a horrific tentacle monster that kills seemingly everyone in the school.
In the end, Koizumi realizes that Aimi was in love with him the entire time, and doesn’t fight her when she engulfs him completely. Apparently this act of selfless love was enough to purify them both, and although they do indeed die, their souls are “light” and able to ascend. This throws a wrench in Jukokubo’s plan to prove that humans are The Worst, so he turns tail and leaves his boss fight against Hyoi, threatening to return again. In the epilogue, Hyoi and Rui reflect on the mission and wax poetic about the nature of humanity while crossing a busy street.
… Ehm… happy ending, yes?
Now then: there are actually quite a few things I enjoyed about Dark Cat, and they are all very simple things that I had come to miss after days of watching other entries from the Bottom of the Barrel.
It had a narrative, and was -- mostly -- comprehensible in its storytelling, as rushed as it may have been. There was an undeniable presence of an art director, something I’m not convinced was present in a few of the other similarly rated titles I have seen. Some of the shots were noticeably well composed and even clever, and required an artistic vision and some decent effort to create. The animation wasn’t awful, the designs ranged from serviceable to genuinely charming (I like the subtlety of Hyoi and Rui’s cat-like features!), and I liked that the characters actually emoted. It wasn’t as generic as I expected and took some risks, even if they didn’t pay off and left it with a reputation of being “too grotesque to be enjoyable”.
I can understand the common criticisms of the gore and body horror being poorly animated, but I won’t decry it for existing and “being ugly”... of course it’s ugly, it’s body horror reminiscent of The Thing from The Thing. (Now would be a good time to warn people not to look this OVA up, unless they are sure they are okay with body horror and gore of this calibre. Tentacles with teeth and spines rip out of people’s skin from the inside and deform their hosts, it is quite awful! I would also include a warning for trypophobia -- there are shots where the mutations form clusters of holes on the skin.) The body horror in Dark Cat being disgusting and making my skin crawl isn’t a fault -- I think it’s the intended purpose. Though I will concede that:
The phallic imagery of the horrific flesh mutations, particularly that of the teacher who attacked Rui, was… bizarre, considering that otherwise the OVA isn’t particularly dark in tone or otherwise sexually graphic.
Perhaps having grotesque body horror is completely unexpected in a story about two bishounen teens (?) who can turn into cats and fight ghosts.
Yes, Dark Cat, the OVA put on Worst Anime Ever lists for being a grotesque spectacle, is just as commonly placed on those lists for being a dumb anime about guys that can transform into house cats and who fight supernatural entities with not so amazing powers. This is a gripe I’ve seen in a few popular reviews, but there was no point during my watching experience that I thought, “Man, these teens are pansies, they don’t even turn into big scary lions or anything! What’s the point, it’s practically a power-down! cinemasins ding” because I don’t go into anime expecting every single male character I see to be Big & Strong & Cool, because I uh… don’t have brain worms I guess? I don’t know what to say about this criticism really, other than people who watch a lot of shounen have very strange hang ups about super powers.
Otherwise, it seems the biggest reason Dark Cat is lauded as One of the Worst -- perhaps even ahead of the silly concept and nauseating gore -- is actually because of the abysmal english dub. It’s my honour to say that I didn’t watch the dub, so it doesn’t factor in at all into my impressions!
So in the end, perhaps my only true gripes with Dark Cat are:
Despite having no particular issue with body horror and gore existing, the extent of destruction and graphic death gave the OVA a bit of a snuff film vibe.
The conclusion to the story was quite bad.
It could be surmised by the brief plot outline I wrote earlier that Dark Cat isn’t a very complicated story. Demons and ghosts exist and wreak havoc on emotionally vulnerable humans, and supernatural soldiers try to mediate between the realms by purifying tortured ghosts and saving those dragged into darkness by evil entities. These beats are common in the supernatural genre of anime, but Dark Cat’s handling of its tragic morality tale left me more confused than anything.
Koizumi didn’t do anything wrong -- he shouldn’t have had to die for the sin of not reciprocating Aimi’s feelings, nor for developing depression after the rejection and death of his classmate and crush. Aimi… did things wrong, but was nevertheless the most compelling character in the OVA. Throughout Aimi was kind, patient, and forgiving when it came to being treated badly by Koizumi. In the finale however, it is revealed that Aimi was the one responsible for Koizumi’s crush’s death, assumedly having murdered her out of jealousy or out of revenge on Koizumi’s behalf for hurting his feelings. Prior to this, the first students to be killed by the tentacle monsters just happened to be the ones that had bullied Koizumi in class earlier that day -- implying that Aimi was getting revenge on them, as well.
It was with these revelations that I started to wonder: Why not just let the flesh monster manifest as a direct result of Aimi’s negative feelings? Aimi confessed to murdering Koizumi’s crush before the events of the OVA -- would she have done so if she wasn’t being influenced by the malignant force set on her by Jukokubo? I feel that her arc would have been much more interesting without the introduction of a non-compelling and badly designed villain like Jukokubo, because then we would know it was all her. Even if she was influenced by forces exacerbating her pre-existing jealousy and rage, that is a more satisfying option than having a big dumb green cat of a villain to trace everything back to so neatly.
And really, what did Jukokubo do in the story beyond take the spotlight, and the blame, from Aimi? He had some previous relation to Hyoi and Rui, but it’s not developed at all, and his ideological rivalry with Hyoi was trivial. Hyoi could have come to the same conclusions about holding out hope for humanity without Jukokubo there to insist he be a guest to debate on his political podcast.
The lack of accountability regarding Aimi is a part of why the resolution to her conflict with Koizumi feels so wrong -- he succumbs to her feelings because he realizes the evil was born from her suffering, and he feels that he has to sacrifice himself to make up for unknowingly hurting her so much that she turned into a monster from hell. In the end she is absolved via being purified and getting to die with her spirit entwined with Koizumi’s, and he apologizes for having not recognized how he was hurting her.
Aimi kills his crush, kills his bullies, and ends up -- inadvertently, at least -- killing almost all of their classmates, because she was tilted about her childhood friend not realizing she had romantic feelings for him. And when Koizumi learns all of this, he apologizes and dies with her, and this is proof of humanity’s goodness? The dark clouds part and the rain stops and Aimi and Koizumi ascend in a heavenly ray of light, because he decided, while she was devouring him, that he was wrong to ignore his murderous best friend’s love for him?
I guess it’s fine -- it was probably mostly Jukokubo’s fault anyway, and everyone was just an unfortunate victim of his meddling… 😒
Other than the bad writing, the string of deaths that happen in the finale when the monster lets loose in the school are quite uncomfortable to behold. Deformed student bodies are splayed and strewn around classrooms, and the bullies are rendered into unrecognizable mounds of pulsating flesh in their homes. The violence of a fight against a monster like this, I can handle, but the graphic images of helpless death were difficult to stomach. And in this OVA, there is no miraculous reversal of the demon’s damage once it is purified -- there is no implication whatsoever that everyone who died isn’t still just as dead as Aimi and Koizumi in the end.
The main thing I was actually worried about when I watched Dark Cat was that there would be sexual assault, thanks to reviewers griping it for “generic hentai tentacles”. I am relieved to say that there is none, at least not insofar as deserving a comparison to actual porn. There is sexual content scattered throughout the horror scenes: The occasionally phallic appearance of the tentacles, shots of the tentacles coming down from under skirts, and there is one shot of nudity when Aimi’s shirt is ripped open as she transforms, though I would say it’s too horrific and ugly to be sexualized or otherwise considered “fanservice”.
What is the point of the hits of sex imagery in Dark Cat? I have no idea. This isn’t Alien, it isn’t about the horror of sexual assault or the violence of creation -- though the main horror of the scene where Rui is ambushed by the teacher seems to be that she uses magic to seduce him, only to reveal a very phallic tentacle from her mouth that she means to kill (or infect…?) him with, which can have multiple, potentially offensive readings… it is a one off, however -- and there doesn’t seem to be any moral posturing about it as is often seen in slashers. I couldn’t parse any sort of consistent STI allegory regarding the plague of tentacles upon the student body, despite how many summaries I have read that describe the tentacles as that, a “plague”.
… I realize I am probably the only person on earth to give any aspect of Dark Cat’s production this much thought. To sum up: It seems to just exist for the shock value. Considering the extent of disgusting imagery already present a la The Gore and Deformation of Human Bodies, I don’t think this OVA benefitted from featuring some explicit looking tendrils, beyond cementing its abhorrent reputation.
Is this all to say that I think Dark Cat is a good OVA? No, of course not. It’s tone deaf, and tasteless, and has awkward pacing and bad writing. But compared to the utterly soulless and artistically devoid works the likes of Skelter Heaven and Mars of Destruction, I would say the fact I was able to write this much about Dark Cat is testament to that fact that it at the very least, contains content -- and some of that content was like, decent! Skelter+Heaven was such a mess it was all I could do to understand the sequence of events, and Mars of Destruction was so bland I literally have no posts about it on the blog despite watching it more than once. Psychic Wars was a snoozefest I barely finished that similarly has no mention on the blog, and Hanoka’s production gimmick couldn’t save it from being a totally forgettable romance story.
Therefore, Dark Cat is the best worst title I have seen thus far, by virtue of being executed with an average amount of competency for an OVA from the early 90s, and for having a balance of good and bad elements that gave me something to hold onto and mull over after viewing.
3/10.
Oh, and I loved the bad 80s insert songs.

Alive: to Live is to Love
[A Detroit: Become Human, Markus x reader story]
Chapter 5
Epilogue: Their Road to Happiness
(I have no idea about laws and stuff so I'm only going to write this as politically correct as I am capable of so please don't hate me if I get the whole thing wrong)
xX0Xx
There were many reasons why Markus was so keen on getting android equal rights.
One was so that androids can be treated equally while having their own housing and property to their names, another was so that they could be legally registered as official citizens with their own names and not just models and numbers, one more is so that they could vote for whoever they want to elect and have the choices that were granted for the humans as well.
There were many reasons why Markus wanted to settle all their rights together and of course all of this was for the stability of his people but one particular human rights he wanted for androids as well was something very close to his own personal reasons.
The rights of android marriage.
Although there were no rules for his kind when it came to love and happiness the thought of being legally bound to someone and them being called your spouse was something Markus really liked.
He absolutely loved the idea that the only woman he cherished more than anything in this world would be called his and only his.
Call him possessive or whatnot but the thought of Y/n walking out their door with a ring on her finger signifying that she only belongs to him and he only belongs to her was more than enough reason for him to actually put it on his list of rights that should be immediately approved.
Markus went and proposed this to his council and they all looked at him with knowing smiles, especially Simon since he was well aware of how Markus was dying to propose to Y/n.
-
It was a grueling and long process for the androids to get their equal rights and after that things shifted to third gear.
Everything became political after that and as far as Markus knew he wasn't designed to know anything about politics but, a perk of being an android was having extensive knowledge so, although he wasn't originally programmed to be a political figure, he had to become one for the sake of his people.
Coming home mentally exhausted had become a norm for Markus and he was always thankful when he entered his home to find his beloved waiting to welcome him and listen to all his complaints.
Sometimes he felt bad for Y/n since he would rant about his stressful job over and over again but she would often remind him that she personally liked hearing him talk and speak about his troubles and she told him that it made her feel involved in all aspects of his life.
Markus was always so thankful for Y/n and her kind understanding so, he pushed forward everyday and worked hard since he had the person he loved behind his back.
"I'm home." He called out and soon Y/n's figure came out of the kitchen door as he hung his coat.
"Welcome home." She smiled and pressed quick a kiss on his lips.
Markus wrapped his arms around Y/n's figure and held her tight, a sigh came out of his lips earning a giggle from the woman and she wrapped her arms around him and she gently rubbed his back.
"Tired?"
"Very."
Y/n chuckled a bit before leading Markus to one of the couches in the living room and gently pushed him to sit down, Markus had been accustomed to this action and turned his body to the side of the couch where he lifted his legs towards the armrest and let it dangle from there. Y/n then sat down behind him and gently pulled Markus to where his back met her chest and her arms lazily found its way around his.
This had been common for the two ever since Markus got more work load with handling everything that revolved around human-android relations. This was their downtime and Markus completely understood why humans wanted to take breaks so much.
"So, tell me all about it." Y/n spoke as she nuzzled her cheek on Markus' head.
Markus let out a content sigh as one of his hands found its way on hers and gently held them.
"Let's talk about something else, I wouldn't like it if we just talk about my problems all of the time."
"Didn't I tell you that I'm okay with hearing whatever it is you're going through? I know what you're going through is rough so letting you vent is the least I could do."
Markus smiled as he heard her words, he felt so lucky to have someone like Y/n with him. Not only did she love and accept him for who and what he is but she's willing to do everything she could to help him and that's more than what he could have ever hoped for.
"Did I ever tell you how amazing you are?"
"Only everyday we're on this earth, Markus. Frankly though, you're the amazing one here since you're doing all of this." She smiled and hugged him closer to her and he melted even more at her touch.
"Behind every great man is a greater woman and I'm glad that it's you."
Y/n smiled lovingly at Markus and she couldn't help but tighten her hold on him.
"Everything alright?" He asked and she only smiled in return.
"I just love you so much." Y/n replied in a loving tone and this made Markus even happier.
"I love you too, Y/n. More than words can express."
They both took a moment to relax and enjoy each other's company when a loud noise came from the kitchen and alerted the two immediately.
"Oh no, my pasta!"
Y/n quickly scrambled away from their position and Markus couldn't help but laugh at his beloved's actions.
His thoughts went back to the android marriage law that he wanted to implement and when the thought of Markus finally being able to call Y/n his wife came back to him he couldn't help but smile as he felt the box on his pants pocket.
Soon enough.
-
Months have passed and the cycle still continued on, it took more time than he thought to get their rights granted and day by day Markus would get frustrated.
There would be demonstrators on the streets that would be against androids getting their rights and some groups would be particular with what right they didn't like the most. Markus mostly didn't like the groups who would protest against the rights for marriage, some would say that androids don't really love and it makes him upset that Y/n would hear any of their nonsense.
Although he trusted Y/n, there was a small amount of fear building up inside of him, he would sometimes think that what if Y/n heard what they were saying and she actually believes them?
Markus would then shake his head whenever those thoughts would creep into his mind. His Y/n would never abandon him after all they've been through so because of this he was very adamant into finally getting their rights. He wants to finally give her a grand wedding that she deserves to show his love.
As the android council continued their work and settle paperwork the time for another meeting with the humans arrived.
The first few meetings were not the best, granted it happened shortly after the revolution but, with time. the humans who were assigned to discuss with the androids grew less hostile than when they started.
Of course there were still the select few on their end but after President Warren's strict rule that there would be no harm on both ends they only went as far as using words to try degrading androids to provoke them and make them act to which, of course, they fail since Markus and his side never showed any hostility.
Before the meeting started and while the people gathered Markus stowed himself away on a private room, away from the prying eyes of both ends.
He sat on the couch as he looked at one of the many pictures he and Y/n had, this one was of them playing around with some paint as they painted a mural that showed android and human equality. They made sure to paint it at a public place together so that onlookers would see how well they just worked together. This photo was courtesy of Simon who seemed to take an interest in photography after Y/n showed him that there were many forms of art.
His mind was occupied with the big smile on Y/n's face as the Markus in the photo smothered blue paint on her cheek as she laughed. As he admired the pure joy the photo gave him a knock was heard on the door. He took a quick glance at the photo and then at the door before placing it down on the table, he stood up and walked over to the door to open it himself.
There stood President Warren with a few body guards waiting outside.
"Madam President?" Markus slightly raised his brow in question.
"Markus, do you have a minute?"
President Warren's face showed a small smile and her stance showed no hostility still, he had to keep himself on alert since she had numerous guards behind her and he was sure there were more around the vicinity.
"Yes, of course. Please, come in."
He moved to the side for her and her guards to enter and he followed.
President Warren sat down on one of the couches in the room and Markus sat opposite of her. Markus eyes her warily but not enough to raise any suspicion, he saw her eyes land on the table where his photo of Y/n was and he could see a smile form on her face.
"May I?" She motioned to the photo.
"Of course."
Markus watched as the president took the photo and smile at it. He could feel his own smile building since he cherished the photo and the memory.
"I see Miss Manfred is doing well?"
"Yes, she's been mentally, emotionally and physically well." He smiled.
"Well that's good to know, last I saw of her was when her father died. It's good to see that she's gotten better and I believe that's because of you."
Markus was well aware of Carl's past and how his art seemed to have caught the eye of the president even before she came to her position. He knew that they had been somewhat friends after seeing each other at a few CyberLife parties.
It was also no secret that Y/n and Markus were together. The first it came to light was at a press conference Markus had and Y/n had come to show her support, people were all over her asking questions about her relations with Markus and Y/n boldly answered each question without a second thought. Not only did she declare that they were together but also how she supported androids and their fight for equal rights.
It became big news to know that the deviant leader was with a human woman and public opinion was mixed. Majority of the people were against the very idea of it and course Markus was scared of the backlash Y/n would receive because of it but to his surprise a lot of people were supportive. Some even romanticized the idea that Markus caused the revolution because of his love for Y/n.
"I'm glad I can help her. Carl was very special to both of us." Markus smiled sadly as he reminisced the life of the man he looked up to as a Father.
"Well I'm glad you two have each other. I understand that you two really do love and care for each other. In fact, it was one of the reasons why I had ultimately decided to stand down during the revolution."
"I'm sorry... What do you mean?.." Markus asked as he looked at the president in slight confusion.
"Why that time when you called Y/n, before the revolution ended. Didn't you call her then?"
"Yes... Yes I did... With all due respect, how did you know about that?"
"Didn't she tell you? She was with me when you called."
Markus stared at President Warren as if waiting for more information and the confusion that was clearly on his face made him very human in the president's eyes.
"Well, Miss Manfred had... Gone past my extensive security, God knows how, but she successfully did and she had begged me to cease all attacks on androids during the night of the protests. Poor thing was in the middle of crying when you had called her, I was able to hear your message and it showed me just how you felt for each other, to go through such lengths was very admirable."
Markus leaned back in both horror and awe, horror at the fact that the woman he loved so much ran through the president's security and straight to the president herself to beg for his people to be spared, awe at the fact that she went through such great lengths for him and his people. Awe that she loved him so much that she would do such unthinkable things for him.
President Warren saw the surge of emotions that flowed through Markus' face and this gave her the idea that he hadn't known what Y/n had done for him and his people. She motioned for one of her guards and the guard handed her a thick stack of papers, she then placed it down on the table with the photo she had looked at on top.
"I didn't just come here to make small talk. I came here to give you a... gift of sorts."
Markus snapped out of his thoughts when the president spoke, he looked down on the table where the large stack of papers were and on top of it was the picture he had. What shocked him was the words printed on the paper underneath the photo.
"When I saw that you had wanted this I had a vague idea as to why, so I wanted to give this to you in person... Before it was publicly announced."
Markus took the stack of papers and smiled brightly at the words as he read them, on sentence made his smile even wider and he couldn't wait for it to be publicized.
"Androids have been granted rights to marry whomever they desire and will be looked upon under the same law as human marriage laws."
He looked at President Warren and the emotions just flowed through him, it was so much that he didn't know how he would show her that he was really thankful.
"Thank you so much, Madam President." He opted for a simple thanks which he hoped would reach her and with how the president smiled at him it seems like it did.
President Warren stood up and the guards all positioned themselves around her.
"I'll give you some time to yourself. The meeting will commence in a short while, I'll see you there." Markus stood up to shake her hand and the president was more than willing to shake.
"Thank you, from the bottom of my heart." He smiled gratefully and the president sent him once last smile before taking her leave.
It was quiet, as Markus sat on the couch his mind raced with different ways on how to propose and to break the news to Y/n. He felt a surge of emotions which ranged from happiness, joy, excitement, fear and anxiety.
All these thoughts of marriage was beginning to feel real now that they have been granted this right and it took Markus everything he had to stop himself from leaving the meeting and running home to propose to Y/n.
He placed his hand on his pocket and felt the small square box that was in it. This small box had been with him for a few months and it had been hard to hide it from Y/n, they shared everything together so hiding it from her had been near impossible.
Of course his friends knew about it and even helped him plan on how to do it, they had given him so many good suggestions and as much as he wanted to plan it out he just couldn't wait to do it.
Seeing these papers made him want to go home and finally propose to her but he knew he had a duty to fulfil. It took a few knocks on the door to snap him out of his thoughts and when he had opened it Simon was on the other side.
"Markus, are you alright?" Simon asked after seeing the distant look in Markus' face.
"Yeah... I'm more than alright." Markus smiled widely at Simon and the man smiled back.
"I take it the president shared good news? I saw her leave from this direction."
Markus showed Simon the papers and Simon smiled in full understanding at what this meant.
"Congratulation, Markus! I'm sure Y/n would be thrilled by this."
"I want to propose to her as soon as I can but I also want I want it to be perfect."
"Markus, you don't need to worry about how you're going to do it. I understand that you want it to be special but I'm sure that just being proposed to by you would already make her very happy. Besides, you pushed for this right to marry for more personal reasons than any, that's already special."
Simon placed a comforting and reassuring hand on Markus' shoulder and he felt grateful to have such a good friend. Ever since the beginning, Simon had been more than just a friend, he was brother. Having him here made Markus more confident in himself and his proposal to Y/n.
"You should do it when you feel that the time is right, if it's later after the meeting or next week then follow what your heart tells you."
"Thanks, Simon..."
Markus stared at Simon for a bit and Simon in turn gave him a confused look.
"What is it?.."
"Simon, you're like a brother to me and it's customary for a groom to have a best man... Would you be my Best Man? When Y/n does accept my proposal?"
"It would be my honor, Markus."
They shared a brotherly hug and when they released each other Simon clasped Markus' shoulder and looked at him with a smile.
"Now, let's do our best and get this meeting done, quick."
When the both of them walked to the assembly hall almost everyone had already been there. There were also people from different news channels and various journalists in waiting, ready to report the results of which rights have been passed.
"Let's get this over with."
-
Y/n stood in the kitchen cutting up ingredients for her dinner tonight, she had been busy with an upcoming art exhibition that showcases both art from humans and androids. She had wanted to be part of it but she hadn't expected that most of the major tasks would be handed to her since she was Markus' lover and also a Manfred.
Being the lover of Markus gave her more spotlight than when she had just been Carl Manfred's daughter and a simple artist. Still, she wanted to use her new found popularity with the masses to spread android equality.
This caused her to become extremely busy for the day with schedules, reviewing art pieces and where they would be placed. There were so many things to plan but she loved seeing the art pieces dedicated to human and android peace.
She knew it was a special day for Markus too, it was because they would be discussing which rights were approved and which were still under evaluation. Y/n wanted to give Markus a call but she knew he'd have his hands full so she opted to just wait for him to get home.
Y/n had been cutting some onions and thinking of various things when she heard the alarm of the house deactivate.
"Y/n?" Markus called out and she replied.
"In the kitchen!"
Markus came in the kitchen in a rush, he didn't even take off his coat as he immediately takes the knife from Y/n's hand, places it on the counter, and pulls her into a tight hug.
"Oh!"
She was shocked for a for moment at the sudden embrace but returned the hug, she snuggled into his arms and soon enough she relaxed. She felt Markus tighten his hold on her and she was momentarily worried that this was because he was upset about something.
"Is everything okay, Markus? Did the meeting not go well?"
"No, it went well..."
"Then what's wrong?.."
"Nothing... Nothing's wrong... In fact, I'm going to do something I've been dying to do for a long time."
"Oh? What is that?"
Markus removes his hold of her and takes her hands in his. He goes down and gets on one knee and Y/n felt her breath stop. She felt a chill run through her body and she could feel tears starting to form in her eyes, Markus hadn't even said anything and she was already on the verge of crying.
"Y/n Manfred, we have only been together for a few months but I know I've felt for you longer than that. You're the reason I can take every day as it is and push through even though the weight of the responsibilities given to me are sometimes too much.
"Every day I spend with you has made me happy and I can't imagine a world without you. You are what I think about most and I love you more than words can describe. I want to spend the rest of our lives together as a married couple... That's why..."
Markus took the box he had been hiding in his pocket and opened it to reveal a simple yet elegant gold ring.
"I know it's not perfect... I really wanted to give do something special for you but I couldn't wait any longer. Androids now have the freedom and right to get married under the same law as humans so..."
Y/n was already crying as he spoke of his love and when he pulled out the ring she cried ever harder.
"Y/n Manfred, will you marry me?"
She couldn't help herself and basically threw herself at Markus, they both end up falling on the floor and Y/n was sobbing uncontrollably as she hugged Markus.
"Yes! Oh my God, yes!" She cried out and she felt Markus wrapped his arms tightly around her.
"I love you so much." He spoked softly compared to her loud cries.
"I love you too! So very, very much!" She continued to cry and when she had calmed down Markus helped her up. He then took her hand and gently places the ring that fit her perfectly well and he saw her smile widely at the ring now on her hand. She places the same hand on his cheek and leaned forward to kiss him. He eagerly reciprocates and when she pulls back she starts laughing.
"Oh my God, we're engaged!.. We're finally engaged!"
"Finally?" He chuckled with her and she kissed him again.
"Of course! I can now admit with no shame that I've been dreaming about it for so long, that and of course getting married to you."
Y/n continued to cry and Markus wiped her tears away.
"Stupid onions... making me cry." She laughed while tears kept falling down her face.
Markus chuckled as he kisses her forehead and she giggles at the action and when he looks down at her he kisses her again.
"You're gonna make the onions sad if you keep blaming them like that."
"Oh hush." Y/n laughed at his little comment. "I can't believe this is happening..."
"You have to, we'll be planning our wedding soon." Markus smiled and Y/n smiles brightly at him.
"This is going to be so exciting!"
Y/n's smile suddenly turned into a sad one and that brought concern to Markus.
"What's wrong?.."
"I wish dad was here with us... He'd be so happy for the both of us..." Markus also smiled sadly at the mention of his father figure and he pulled Y/n into a hug, she hugs him back and he tightens his hold on her.
"I'm sure Carl's watching over us right now and I promise to make his one and only daughter happy."
"You already have."
Markus pressed his forehead on hers and the two spent the night doing the things they loved to do together, they talked about their day while holding each other in an embrace and even got started on brainstorming on what kind of wedding they'd have.
-------
A little over three months have passed and everything had been settled. Markus continued to work with his council in establishing life for androids and Y/n had been busy with taking more projects and handling more exhibits.
The two have been awfully busy but when they get home they relax and talk about their wedding plans. Nothing made the two happier than getting married as soon as they can but Markus wanted to make sure that it was extra special. Still, they made sure to plan for the shortest time possible.
Markus now stood in an all white tuxedo and looked at himself in a mirror, he fixed his tie and made sure it was perfect since it was his big day.
A few months ago he had only daydreamed about getting married to the woman he loved and now here he was, getting ready for the big event.
The news media had been a buzz when they found out that marriage was one of the rights the androids have gotten and they had naturally bombarded him and Y/n questions about getting married. Markus had been a bit hesitant to publicly announce that they were engaged since there would be another wave of backlash but Y/n had proudly told everyone that they were.
He could see the big smile on her face as she told people that they were engaged and Markus felt his heart swell with love. This woman was so excited to tell the world that he was her fiancé and he felt happy about it too so, seeing as how happy she was with it his hesitance with telling people that they were about to get married disappeared.
"Markus? Are you ready?" Simon entered the room he was in and Markus widely smiled.
"I am, a bit nervous though."
"Don't worry, everyone made sure that everything would be perfect."
Their wedding was invite only since the public wanted to see it too, journalists tried to get the details of their wedding date and location but everything was kept under wraps. He wanted to make sure that their wedding was intimate and for only close friends and those they treated as family.
"Everyone's ready when you are."
Markus smiled at Simon and they both walked out the room and to the traditional church. As they got there, all of the people they were close with were talking and waiting for the ceremony to start. He greeted his and Y/n's friends as well as some politicians that weren't against androids and had even accepted them with open arms, that included the president.
"Congratulations on your big day, Markus."
Markus turned his attention the voice and saw Connor with a woman. Connor had been one of his groomsmen and he wore the same white tuxedo shirt and black pants that Josh did. The woman who was with him had long black hair, curled to waves, black eyes and was wearing the same light pink dress that the bridesmaids wore.
What was notable was how Connor held the hand of the woman.
Just like him, Connor was with a human woman with the name of Hannah Anderson, a detective at the Detroit Police Department. She was good friends with his soon-to-be wife since they share a somewhat sort of bond when it comes to human-android relations and so, she was one of the bridesmaids. The only difference was. their relationship wasn't as public as his.
"Y/n is already finished getting ready, I hope your not getting cold feet because I'll have you know I can and will chase you down." Hannah lightly teased and Markus chuckled at her.
"I would never. I've been waiting for this for so long."
"She's almost here, places everyone!"
North's voice echoed around the church and Markus could see her excitement. She was the Maid of Honor that Y/n chose and North took her job seriously. The two of them had become very close after the revolution that it even shocked the said woman herself. She was hesitant to open up to Y/n seeing as she was human but now both treated each other like a sister.
Because of that, North put her all into making sure that things go smoothly for their wedding day.
"You ready, Markus?" North smiled and Markus smiled in return.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
Music started playing from the organ of the church and people stood to look at the door, it soon opened and Markus' breath was taken away.
There stood Y/n in a beautiful white wedding gown but the way she looked made him pause. She had always been beautiful in his eyes but seeing her in white, about to get married to him, made everything much more magical. She slowly made her way to the altar and when she looked up at him it was as if all the color in the world magnified itself around her.
Y/n now stood in front of him with the biggest smile he has ever seen and he didn't stop himself from taking her hands. It was a bit cold and shaky but when he had held them the shaking stopped and he felt her squeeze back.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered her today in great celebration. One where love triumphs above all. We are here for the union of Y/n and Markus, as they show their love to the world. A love that will conquer all and last for an eternity. Do you both accept this marriage freely and wholeheartedly?"
"We do."
"We may now start with the vows, Markus?"
Markus took his time to stare at the woman he loved and he took a breath.
"Y/n, things between us haven't always been easy. It took us a hard and rocky road to get where we are right now but knowing that I'll be standing here in front of you, marrying you, I know that if I needed to go through it again I would.
"You are the most precious thing in the world for me. I love you, more than words can ever say and describe. I will fight for you, I will love and cherish you and I will protect you. I will build a world that would make you live in peace and happiness and I will always stay by your side."
He saw tears come down on Y/n's face and she started crying, the smile on her face never left and it only grew brighter at his words.
"Y/n?" The priest nodded and she smiled.
"Markus, when I thought I lost you all the color in my life faded. When I got you back it returned tenfold. You're right, it was never easy for us and there will always be problems along the way but I will never abandon you and I will fight for you, for us.
"I love you with all my heart, Markus. You're the one I cherish the most and no matter what the world throws at us know that I'll be beside you, proudly declaring how much I love you. You mean the world to me and nothing will ever change how much I love you."
It was his turn to feel emotional now. The only time he had cried was when Carl died but now, as he stood in front of Y/n he felt tears of happiness flow down his cheeks.
"Do you, Markus, take Y/n as your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold; from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"I do."
"And do you, Y/n, take Markus as your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold; from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"I do."
"And now, for the rings."
Simon walks forward and presents the two of them the rings.
"May these rings be blessed by the Lord as the sign of your love and fidelity towards each other. You may now exchange the rings."
Markus took Y/n's hand and placed the wedding ring on top of the engagement ring he had given her and she did the same. The shine in Y/n's eyes as she looked at him and then at the rings they had made him smile at her. The two of them were overflowing with happiness and everyone could see it.
"And now, for the moment I'm sure you both have been waiting for."
They both chuckled and the priest smiled at them.
"I now pronounce you, husband and wife. Markus, you may now kiss your bride." Loud cheers echoed through the church as Markus takes Y/n into his arms and kisses her. She laughed in joy and he peppers her face with kisses before she does the same to his.
"Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Manfred!" The priest congratulates and Markus felt the happiness he had tenfold.
Not only was he legally married to woman he loved the most but he now carried the name of her family, of the man he thought of as a father. As he looked down at Y/n who was now waving to their friends and laughing happily he felt that everything is right in the world.
All the pain and suffering he had gone through months and months ago, now vanished as he held his wife. She looked up at him with a smile and he leaned back again to give her another kiss.
Their road to happiness had finally paved its way for them and Markus will surely treasure each and every moment they spend walking down its path.
