WELL...after almost 4 years of working on it, Evelynn is finally...FINALLY done. lmao In the end, she became a bit of an unwearable disaster, but all she had to do was look good in pictures, and by god, she did that like a champ~ 🖤

okay, so i just listened to the ‘feeling rotten’ episode of kraig’s retirement party (glory to kraig)
i’m gonna rope @lifeofbrybooks into this, because i have a compliment for the both of you. i have never enjoyed podcasts until this one. i got so much work done while just listening to you guys bouncing theories off each other, and it was fun. so thank you for proving podcasts can actually be fun to listen to
secondly, i listened to it because you had a theory similar to mine about the gun and why kit can fire it, and i agree with each of your points, but like what bry (at least i think it was bry) said, i’m just lost on why lucie wouldn’t be able to trigger the gun
so I COMBINED TWO OF YOUR THEORIES (i could have potentially zoned out and you may have done this already)
what if lucie could trigger the gun, but because she didn’t have a propelling factor (like the gracelet or kit blasting the riders into ‘thin air’ or links to the shadow world) she can’t unlock it?? if something happens between her and jesse (like you know the snippet where lucie can no longer touch jesse in cot for some reason), could she potentially then be able to fire the gun?
idk i’m tired and i’m probably just doing that one meme where he’s like i connected the dots! and the other guy is like you didn’t connect shit
hello love!!
first of all. I was not ready for that compliment. help 🙈 literally tearing up. I LOVE that you were still able to enjoy our silly chaotic podcast despite.. well everything lol but especially since you didn't have a positive view of podcasts before?? like I'm sorry?? blows my mind tbh and i just.. ugh I'm giving you a kiss on the forehead <3
OKAY. as for the theory...
I love the idea that Lucie has the ability to shoot the gun but just hasn't unlocked it yet. Bry and I discussed recently the potential for needing something to amplify or direct energy/magic in order to shoot the gun (maybe on top of already-established extra demon blood?). If this is how Kit's powers work as is, it would make sense if this (or he, himself?) allows him to shoot the gun. Bry suggested that maybe the gracelet acted in the same way for James, but we did a search of Chain of Iron and were reminded that the gracelet is already off (good fucking riddance) by the time the battle with Belial/Lilith happens and James shoots the gun. SO unless the gracelet has some sort of residual power over James, I don't think it was that which allowed him to shoot the gun. I also don't think the gracelet would have been able to unlock something in him, since it was working so hard to mask his true emotions etc.
your thought about the connection to the shadow realm being a "compelling factor" tho... and thinking about Lucie not being able to touch Jesse. It feels very like.. if she's begun to be given to the pull of the shadow realm because of the shady necromantic shit.. could that then make her able to use the gun in chot. gosh i would kill for that.
I feel like there are so many possible explanations for, or readings of, that snippet with Lucie saying she can't touch Jesse. but what if she gave part of her life force or solidity to Jesse in order to make him the way he is and therefore she exists in part in shadows? what if she had to take energy from the shadow realm to bring him here, or what if she rooted him in the shadow realm? I just LOVE the idea of Lucie having access to the shadow realm in some way too, for that to be the power source of sorts that her and Jamie's powers tie into. And if Lucie touches that in some way now and she's able to shoot the gun...
hmm vanishing into thin air and pulling things from thin air seems to be a common thread for our (supposedly) three special gun-slinging Herondales doesn't it?? I wonder how much that means.
so I guess in answer to your theory/question.. yes. I can absolutely see that happening. and I am dying for more thoughts and I can't wait for chot so we can see if Lucie gets to be a piece of this puzzle!!!
(also it's been a bit since I've listened to that episode, so sorry if I repeated anything I said there!!)

Alona's Interview With Mako
Interview from Mako. May be a little off since it's translated from Hebrew... LOL like Seal Team is translating to Sea Lions and it's so damn cute I'm leaving it.
"I'm afraid because I really want to do it, and do it well"
Tumblr media
For a long time now, Alona Tal has been maintaining an international career, and in fact, it has been no less than six years since she began acting in the American series "Sea Lions". This week, the sixth season of the series came to an end - and for Tal, it was a little more exciting than the others. In a conversation with mako, she talks about the challenges she experienced as a pregnant woman on set, the separation from her partner on the screen - and the plans to direct in the future, despite the fear
And, of course, speaking of Tal's success overseas, it is impossible to ignore her role in the military drama series "Sea Lions", in which Tal has played the image of Stella since she came on the screen in 2017. This week, the sixth season of the series came to an end. "It's sad, dramatic, but necessary. It's a bit heartbreaking for me from this episode, and from this whole season," Tal admits in a conversation with mako.
"I filmed this season when I was pregnant, so it all kind of moved me, because I was very hormonal," laughs Tal. She says she wasn't afraid to shoot while pregnant, as her colleagues on "Sea Lions" had done so before: "In season five, we had three pregnant cast members," she says, "so I knew it wasn't going to be a problem. The bosses in the series know how to work around it. I wasn't afraid: I just got pregnant, that's the way it is." Still, Tal admits that the pregnancy did complicate the situation: "It was not the most comfortable, because I don't like pregnancy clothes - and also the very fact that you have to hide your belly, because my character is not pregnant," the actress explained. And, as mentioned, the pregnancy also made Tal more emotional than she is used to being.
Tumblr media
Separation from a partner, a kind of
But that wasn't the only reason why emotions were at their peak this season. At the end of the season, "Sea Lions" parted from one of its most notable actors, not to mention the most prominent: Max Thiriot, who embodied the image of a Bravo crew member, Clay Spencer. For Tal, the departure of Thiriot was particularly difficult, since he is not only the star next to her - but also her partner on the screen.
"It was a farewell to a central figure who is very close to me," says Tal. "Everybody took it very hard, saying goodbye to him, partly because his character is very much loved - and also because everyone loves the actor. He is truly one of the most amazing people I have worked with. I had a relationship with this guy for six years. We've been playing a couple for six years, except for the third season, which was the break."
"I'm very afraid to direct: the fear is not there because I don't want to do it, but because I really want to do it, and do it well"
Not only the cast members and crew of the "Sea Lions" found it difficult to say goodbye to the character of Clay, but also fans of the series. According to Tal, most of the comments she received from viewers at the end of the season were angry comments protesting his resignation. "The fans or viewers of the series are very angry about the move made with Clay's character, and I hope people understand that there was no choice, that it was the best thing for the continuity of 'Sea Lions'. The way he ended his participation in the series will open up an opportunity to tell more stories from the side of the families who are left without the fighters, who die in battle. At the moment the viewers who respond do not understand, but that is because people are going through a kind of mourning. I get it."
Thiriot's retirement is unfortunate, but Tal says it wasn't surprising, neither for her nor for the production and other actors of the series. "He's moved on, it's something we've been worried about for a long time," she says. "We knew he was developing a series, we knew it was progressing very quickly and we knew who was involved. Everyone who knew this was the case anticipated this situation, including the main boss of the series." And although their professional paths are separate for the time being, Tal is confident that she and Thiriot will continue to talk: "We are very good friends," she says, "we are still in touch."
Tumblr media
"As I always say, I am open to jobs in Israel"
Although "Sea Lions" has not yet been renewed for a seventh season, Tal believes that it will happen soon – and she is imbued with a purpose and determined to fulfill her next goal: directing. "I hope, nothing is set in stone, as they say - but it will go there," she says. "I don't know if next season, I'm waiting to hear. The boss of the series knows I'm waiting for that confirmation."
Do you feel ready? "Yes and no, I'm very, very scared of it. Mostly because I think I really want to do it. Anything I want to do and don't want to fail at, I'm afraid: the fear is not there because I don't want to do it, but because I really want to do it, and do it well. And it's also something new for me, it's a lot of responsibility. And I think if I've taken this step of directing, this series is the best home I can do it in. I know the team, I know the language of the series. I'm in a very good and open relationship with the boss, so I'll have good guidance and a lot of support. I very, very much hope that it will be carried out."
Apropos directing, are there any other proposals on the agenda in the field? "I've received offers, there's talk to my partners about a romantic comedy that they want me to direct. Until you do that, no one really takes you seriously, so you have to get through the first time – and then more doors will open."
Tumblr media
What's your next project as an actress? "Right now I'm shooting a movie, right now at these moments. It's an independent film, an unexpected thriller. I play Chabadnik. I'm waiting for them to put the wig on me. It's the first day of filming now, and it's weird. I play an American Jew, and it's very different (from a Jew from Israel, G.M.). When you think of someone who is religious, I immediately go more in the direction of someone I know - an Israeli, who speaks Hebrew, but she doesn't. So it's a bit strange. It's different."
And what about projects in Israel? "There was a role that I was offered in some series, but I couldn't confirm my arrival, because the filming was supposed to be when I was in advanced pregnancy. Unfortunately, nothing has been said since then. But as I always say, I'm open to jobs in Israel."
okay so she’s filming a movie and mentioned a wig so I’m guessing that’s the wig 🤣🤣🤣

title: from home pairing: jungkook x reader genre: richkid!jk, baker!reader, fakedating!au, fluff, angst, e2l, smut in future chapters word count: 7.1k+ prompt: jungkook is the youngest of five boys, the last in line to truly inherit any his parents’ money. but what if his mom suddenly cuts him off due to his current poor behavior and he’s forced to learn how it feels like to be part of the working class?
a/n: i hate cliches but i also love them so i’m gonna write them lol also i know ‘from home’ is an nct song, don’t come @ me. in addition to that, i’m hoping i can expand my writing and be able to lengthen it as much as possible! (well... this chapter only has 7.1k but baby steps...)
next chapter →
Jeon Jungkook is a disappointment.
Well, kind of. His four older brothers think so, especially when he comes stumbling at noon on a Thursday, hair disheveled, shirt buttoned all wrong, half tucked into his pants with the zipper down. “He’s already fucking drunk.” His second eldest brother, Jonghyun, hisses, standing up from the dining table of his parents’ home. They’re supposed to have a scheduled lunch together, and although Jungkook is surprisingly on time, he’s still intoxicated. Jungsik and Jongseok, his other big bros respectively, only shake their heads in their seats, finding this situation all too familiar. The baby does it again.
The oldest of them all, Junghwan, does nothing. His eyes say it all—the glimmer that once was evident in them was drowned, full of nothingness when he looks at his youngest sibling.
But their mom didn’t think of it that way. She spoiled Jungkook like crazy, to the point that he’s the way he is today. Mrs. Jeon saw potential in him the moment she birthed him in 1997; full of love, life, and glory, Jeon Jungkook was going to be off doing great things.
Yet, ever since Jungkook ripped into the age of 16, everything changed. He started smoking, cigarettes, weed, name it and Jungkook has done it. By the time he turned 17, he was experimenting with different types of alcohol, far and wide, and eventually moved up into sleeping with multiple women consecutively. Coincidentally, they’re rich from wealthy families with nothing but dollar signs in their eyes when they see Jungkook, his beauty just being a perk of the package. In spite of his women endeavors, he had enough respect for his mother not to bring them home.
“Mother,” Junghwan finally speaks up, voice stern and face hard. She comes peering out from the back, the house servants trailing behind her before they all realize the sight of Jungkook, clumsily tripping on his own feet, quickly running to his aid while his mother only gasps in horror. “Jeon Jungkook does it again. He can’t just come to a family lunch, no, that would be too easy. He has to do it while reeking of alcohol, on a weekday, all in broad daylight. This is what happens when you let your child run wild and do whatever they please with all the money in the world. They turn out like him.”
His words are harsh, but they don’t impact Jungkook like they used to. No, not after he discovered his love for vodka, whiskey... all of the above. He learned that before seeing any of his family members require at least a couple servings. Stepping into the Jeon’s residence means being criticized, words that come shooting at him like bullets and in the beginning, they pierced through his thin skin with ease, heart clenching in pain at the men he idolized and admired. His skin hasn’t thickened since then, but alcohol does a great job of numbing it all.
Mrs. Jeon glares at her eldest son, the next in line to take over the Jeon Corporation when their father retires. She loves all her kids equally, yet gifted Jungkook more attention than the rest. To be fair, she couldn’t help herself when she saw those pools of sweet chocolate called orbs, begging for her love and affection. “Jungkook, why are you drunk already, love? It’s only 12:30. You probably haven’t eaten lunch yet.”
“But I’ve already had breakfast,” He slurs, the housemaids attempting to have him seated at one of the chairs at the dining table that extends from one end to the room to the next. Seat big enough for two people, he slides down in it, head falling to the side in drowsiness. “Mimosas. My favorite breakfast drink.”
“What’d you do? Champagne with a sprinkle of orange juice?”
“Mmm, didn’t have champagne. Worked with vodka instead.” The four men grimaced.
Their mother’s face softened at his response. “Jungkookie, baby. You can’t just come marching in here like this. We’re having a lunch, together, as a family. You’re lucky your father is coming here late, or else you would’ve been kicked out in seconds.”
“You’re lucky I didn’t kick you out in seconds,” Junghwan chimes in, expression unwavering. “This is ridiculous, Jungkook. You need to stop acting like some bachelor. What are you? Twenty-three? Kim Taehyung was that age when he proposed to his now wife. Yet you’re still fucking around with mom’s friends daughters who innocently are just looking for love. How reckless is that?”
“Junghwan.” Mrs. Jeon says through her gritted teeth, eyes shooting daggers at her son. “Stop it.”
“Hyung has a point, mom,” Jonghyun interjects, making his way toward Jungkook before sitting on the armrest of the chair beside the youngest one. “What has Jungkook even done other than come to every event drunk, spend all our family’s money, and fuck around with women he has no intention of marrying?”
Mrs. Jeon raises a brow at Jonghyun, sucking in her cheeks in disbelief. “You boys are acting like you guys have never been through this phase.”
“Mom,” Jungsik, the middle child and the most empathetic of all, attempts to console his mother’s anger toward his older siblings, humming soothingly. “We all got over that by the age of 21. Jungkook is twenty-three.”
Despite being completely under the influence, the pain is evidently still there. He regrets not drinking an extra glass or two of that make-shift mimosa. They speak of him as if he’s not even in the room, and it makes him feel sick. He knows this feeling well—and his stomach stirring isn’t from the alcohol. Jungkook can’t even look at his mom at the moment, a bit embarrassed by how all his brothers seemingly gang up on their mom just because she was defending him. He really felt like a baby.
“Well, what do you suggest I do? Tell him to get married? You wouldn’t want that, right, Jungkook?” He gazes at the table. Mostly because he doesn’t know what to say, especially if she’s suddenly taking suggestions. “I take that as a no. So it’s settled, there’s nothing we can do.”
“Why don’t you just like... cut him off?” Jongseok proposes, shrugging at his own idea. “I mean, just until he gets his act together. He’s not getting any younger, and if he actually put his brain to use, he could be part of the company, leading in a division. Jungkook isn’t stupid, he’s just acting it.”
At this point, Jungkook’s consciousness begins to fade, slumber creeping up and drowning him like quicksand. For the first time, he regrets consuming so much alcohol because when he’s awake, he’s sleeping on the couch of one of their family rooms with his mother sitting in an armchair, worry washed over her face.
“Mom?” He jerks up, pushing off the blanket that someone had laid on him while he was asleep. “Everything alright?”
“Jungkook,” She begins, and he can already tell it’s going to be bad news. “I think I’ve spoiled you too much. When I first saw you as a baby, I thought that you needed everything, and I wanted to give you everything. Your brothers just grew up so much more differently than you did, your dad wasn’t so swamped with the company and had an abundance of time with them before you came along.”
His mom doesn’t look over at him. She looks uneasy, something eating her insides, and he feels nothing but remorse for her. Jungkook wants to move closer in attempts to comfort her, but it seems that she purposely sat at that distance. “I thought that giving you everything you needed and more meant that I was giving you the things that your father couldn’t give you and look where you are now... wasted every single time you come home. You haven’t had any real jobs, and when I supported you during your modeling endeavors, you threw all of that away! And for what, Jungkook? I gave you everything... and now I feel like a horrible mother.”
“Mom,” He reiterates, his voice soft and apologetic. “You’re not horrible. You took care of me, defended me against all of my hyungs, and guided me through the hardest times of my life. But maybe you’re right, I can’t do it anymore. I’ll do better, mom—”
She finally turns to see him. Her eyes are bloodshot red from the tears, bags underneath them from years of taking care of her five sons that have increased over time from Jungkook’s shenanigans. “No. Jungkook, I’m cutting you off.”
He nearly chokes on his spit. “What?”
“I’ll give you an allowance every month. It’s not a lot, but it’ll be enough to get you by. You can stay in my studio apartment downtown; I haven’t been there in a while so it’ll require some sprucing up.” She places a manila envelope on the table with Jungkook’s name written across it, wiping the tear that streams down her cheek. “You need to learn to fend for yourself, Kook.”
The next morning, Jungkook finds himself lying flat on his bed, staring up at the ceiling with his legs tangled in his satin sheets. Just like that, in an instant, he lost everything. He should’ve stayed sober before coming, or at the very least, took one shot of vodka rather than... well, a couple cups worth. Sleep didn’t come easy that night but the guilt crept in like a tsunami. All that went through his mind was how he let his mom down, her favorite son, and that she had to come to terms with this new arrangement. Disappointing his brothers was something he’d done continuously over the years anyway, so the chance of finally making them proud has gone out the window but with his mom, there was a little bit of opportunity left to show her that he wasn’t completely a fuck up.
Tumblr media
“Thanks, Hyungjin.” Jungkook is grateful that his mom let Hyungjin drive him downtown, and to come up to help drop off his belongings. The older male nods, tipping his hat at him. Hyungjin had been Jungkook’s driver for as long as he could remember; from piano lessons, early and late school drives, to even his one-night stands, where Jungkook would panic call Hyungjin and he’d come almost immediately after. Although he’d hope to see him again, he knows that this may be the last time Hyungjin drives him. “I hope I get to see you again.”
“Of course you will, Mr. Jeon. If you prove yourself to your brothers, I’m sure that they’ll be more than willing to accept you back into the family with open arms.”
Jungkook scoffs, shoving the key to the apartment into the slot of the knob. “I wish. I’m sure they’ll find a way to still keep me out. They hate me, Hyungjin, and I don’t know what else I’m going to do.”
“No, no, Jungkook. They’re your brothers. They have nothing but love for you. Tough love, maybe, but love nonetheless.” Hyungjin carries a portion of the suitcases and bags when Jungkook opens the door to the apartment; the both of them sneezing and coughing abruptly once they step inside. The entire apartment was dusty, dark, and gloomy. The windows had these black long and heavy curtains that blocked any sunlight from seeping through, and the remains of his mother’s paintings and canvases sprawled all across the floor with splatters that coat the wooden floors and brick walls that all were collecting dust.
“Uh... I guess Mrs. Jeon isn’t tidy when her artistic side comes out.” Hyungjin jokes, eyes skimming around the apartment. He walks over to sink, turning the knob of the faucet on, and Jungkook doesn’t even notice that he’s holding his breath until he releases it when the water flows out of the spout. “Least there’s still water? I think your parents are still paying for this place.”
After shoving as much of Jungkook’s personal items into the apartment, Hyungjin brushes his hands off on his slacks, straightening his back afterwards. “Well, Mr. Jeon, congrats on the start of your new future. I know that technically I’m not supposed to drive you anymore, but... if you are in dire need of help, please don’t hesitate to call me.”
Placing a hand on Hyungjin’s shoulder, Jungkook sighs. “Thanks, Hyungjin, really. It means a lot.”
After sending Hyungjin off, Jungkook does some scavenging. For one, there’s some plates in the cabinets that he could use for the time being. No shampoo, no loofah and... when he opens the fridge in the kitchen, his face scrunches up from a whiff of the odor. Milk. Of course, his mother left half a carton of milk in there and hasn’t been back for months. “Guess... I already need to go shopping.”
Tumblr media
“Your total is going to be ₩62,636.00.” Packing the groceries that had been scanned into the brown paper bags that were stuffed into another plastic one, you push it down the line for the customer as she’s shuffling through her purse for her wallet.
“You know, I am the bag boy, right? I can do it.” Hoseok, a fellow co-worker of yours, comments at your actions, hooded eyes darting in your direction in annoyance. “I know you’re trying to be nice to me because Hyeri broke up with me last night, but that doesn’t mean I’m incapable of working.”
“Hush,” You demand, yet face blooming with smiles for the customer who replicates the expression, sliding the credit card into the payment terminal. “Have a good day!” You’d cry out with every receipt you handed to a customer as they’d walk out the store, slouching immediately afterwards from the exhaustion that washes over you. “I’m just trying to make today a bit easier for you, Hobi. I know how much she means to you.”
“You’re kidding right? I’m rich, I’m only working here because I’m trying to save some money up to leave that household but I haven’t left yet. I’m thinking of doing some type of yacht party tonight; drinks, girls, all my homies getting drunk, it’s a great way to truly mend my heart.”
You roll your eyes at the male, leaning back against the register. “If you keep spending your parents’ money like that, you don’t have to leave. They’ll just kick you out.”
He gasps. “I sure as hell hope not, not ‘til I’m ready.” Shaking his head at the thought, he freezes as his mouth gapes open. “Ah, speaking of. Mrs. Jeon actually cut off one of her children. Mostly because he’s a brat and needs to be taught how to be humble... and grateful... and maybe not to be such a dick.”
“Oh?” You raise a brow questioningly. “Which one? Is it the one you’re friends with?”
Hoseok wags his finger in disagreement. “Not friend, acquaintance. We’re party buddies, but he and I don’t talk deep things like you and me. But yes, it’s the baby of them, Jeon Jungkook.”
The name is familiar. His face is plastered on almost all of the billboards that you’d pass by on your route to work. Jeon Jungkook was one of the heirs of the Jeon Corporation, and his mother being the CEO of the supermarket and café chain you had been employed at. Despite all of that, he chose to go the path of modeling (from what you know, it’s just for fun and games), and did nothing to help his family out in their business. Although you never found yourself involved with the media, Jungkook was an image hard to get rid of. His news was everywhere, especially since you had no idea how to remove the Apple News notifications from your phone. Tech wasn’t exactly your strongest suit.
“Interesting. Well, that sucks for him. Can’t have it all.”
“You say that because you’re not rich,” He frowns, crossing his arms. “You’d be living a different life if you had some more money.”
Leaning over the counter, you tap Hoseok’s nose with your pointer finger. “And I’m okay with where I am. Working two jobs, saving up money for my dreams while paying off my student loans... I’m okay with that. Yes, I’m tired, and who wouldn’t kill to be rich, but let’s be honest here. Coming from money, and money that’s not yours, sound horrible.”
“And it is,” Someone sighs, dropping their groceries onto the conveyor belt. “Money that’s actually yours being spent doesn’t feel as fulfilling as when you’re spending someone else’s, but having them control how you spend it... well, it’s not the best.”
“I mean, I feel great knowing that I earned my own money and—“ As you turn to meet with this customer, you’re speaking to the devil himself. Jeon Jungkook. “—oh, uh, Hello.” Magazines, pictures on the internet, billboards... all of them do not do Jungkook any justice because he’s not just gorgeous in person, but he looks like perfection on legs. The way he pushes his long locks back when they begin to irritate his eyes, his skin is milky smooth, supple and soft, and when he shoves his hands into his pockets afterwards, all you can think about is how his arms flex in the sleeves of his T-shirt.
“Kook,” Hoseok greets, forehead crinkled in confusion as he extends his hand for a shake. “What... why are you here? I’ve never seen you at a supermarket before. Doesn’t your personal chef take care of those things for you?” He’s feigning ignorance, afraid that his assumptions of Jungkook’s withdrawal from wealth is only gossip spread by the middle aged women. Jungkook lets out another heavy sigh, shoulders dipping in disappointment. “Well, you probably heard from your mom... who heard from my mom. She kicked me out. Cut me off. So... I’m trying to fend for myself now and get some groceries for dinner tonight.”
“Where are you staying?”
“Uh, my mom used to have an art studio downtown. She’s too busy to go there anymore, so she paints at home now. So the studio is pretty much abandoned... therefore I’m residing there now. I’m also getting an allowance every month to live off of.”
You snort. It was truly an accident, but the words coming out of Jungkook’s mouth were unbelievable. His mom made him leave the house yet gifted him an apartment and an allowance? Does anyone even consider this as being kicked out? “I’m sorry,” He turns to look at you. “Is something funny?”
“I... thought you said she cut you off?”
Without saying it, his face contorts to a visual version of an, And?
“Well, if your mother really cut you off, you wouldn’t even have an apartment. You’d be living on the streets or sleeping on your friends’ couches in rotation. Trust me, I know, I’ve been there. And you’re still receiving an allowance from them?”
Jungkook thinks he doesn’t realize that you’re from a wealthy family as well. “You... have been cut off of your family money and kicked out?”
Hoseok bursts in a laugh, hand in front of him in an attempt to stop himself before apologizing. “Ehem, sorry. She’s never been cut out, her family isn’t well-off in the first place. She’s trying to say she did the latter, sleeping on her friends’ couches on rotation. Me being one of them.” As you’re scanning his groceries one by one, sliding them down to Hoseok, he bags them quickly and efficiently as Jungkook’s eyes dazes off in amazement at his skill. “You... said you’re still getting an allowance from her?”
Jungkook nods but he’s completely immersed by yours and Hoseok’s quick movements, shuffling through the bags and scanning the items. When his toothpaste doesn’t beep, he watches as you start typing in some group of numbers into the register. The system recognizes it immediately before you turn back, resuming into your previous actions. He admits that this isn’t the first time he’s been in a supermarket, but the last time he remembered stepping foot in any of his mom’s businesses was probably before he hit puberty.
“So that’s going to be... ₩113,552.00.” Hoseok looks up when he realizes that Jungkook hasn’t moved from his position. “Jungkook?”
Jungkook shakes his head from his daze, quickly rummaging through his pockets for his wallet. “Sorry, I was just... you guys are really good at that.”
“At what?” You ask, confused with your brows furrowed.
He gestures the register and bags with his chin as he pulls out his wallet. “The whole... register thing. You guys move fast and... expertly. Where’d you learn to do that?”
You and Hoseok freeze. It’s weird to hear, exclusively forthcoming from someone who’s known to be arrogant, and yet the expression on his face is genuinely impressed by the show the two of you had just put on for him. “Uh... basic training? They just give you some tips and you just do it.”
“That’s it? It’s that easy?” He says, eyes bulging from his head at the simple response.
“Well, I wouldn’t say easy,” Hoseok rephrases as Jungkook inserts his credit card into the system. “It gets tiring when your shift gets long. But the task itself isn’t difficult, just becomes brutal.” You shake your head in affirmation, wiping the counter down with a rag. “Don’t look down on your local grocery store employees! Where else would you get your groceries without them to help you?”
He laughs, and he’s so pretty when he laughs, but what subsequents after his laugh isn’t so... pretty. “I won’t, but I don’t think I’d ever work in a supermarket either. Not really for me. I think I have more potential than... everyone here.”
Hoseok eyes his friend quizzically. “Uh... I didn’t think I would be either. I didn’t choose to work here, you know. I want to move out eventually, so I’m saving money. Do you think she chooses to work here too? No. This is temporary for us, Kook. But even so, there’s people who have to work here because it’s how they put food on the table.”
He only shrugs. “I guess. I just think I can do better than this. Thanks for the family discount though! Even though the allowance my mom gave me paid for it.”
And with that, he leaves.
“Who the fuck does he think he is?” You jeer, completely appalled by Jungkook’s comment. “Is it because he’s the boss’ son? Is that why? That’s so ridiculous, why didn’t I say something—“ Hoseok interrupts your rant with the sound of your name soothingly coming out of mouth. “Let him be. I believe in karma and it’s going to bite him in the ass later.” You let out a dejected sigh, caving into his words. “On another note... you’re coming to my yacht party right?”
Tumblr media
You hate Hoseok for luring you here.
He’s got chicks in bikinis, dancing away with their drinks swaying in their glasses, waists so thin you could wrap your hands around them. Guys are lounging, admiring the view of both the sea and the women, alcohol also accompanying their hands, whispering things here and there when they catch a sight of you— jeans and a crop top. You were not going to let Hoseok see you in a bikini, no matter how nice he is to you. He’s still a slob at heart.
When Hoseok spots you through the crowd, he hollers your name. “Oh my gosh! You actually came! I’m so stoked! Which text convinced you to come? I did all those things, just in case any of them are actually the reason why you came.”
hoseokie [1:03PM]: pls come to my party hoseokie [1:03PM]: we’ve got tacos hoseokie [1:04PM]: we’ve got white claw hoseokie [1:05PM]: we’ve got pigs in a blanket hoseokie [1:05PM]: we’ve got some weird hors d'oeuvres hoseokie [1:06PM]: we’ve got fresh fish hoseokie [1:07PM]: we’ve got... mini sandwiches?? idk i’m running out of nice things to mention hoseokie [1:09PM]: what about.... chick-fil-a? i know chicks dig that hoseokie [1:09PM]: i take that back, i know you’re into the feminist thing and don’t like it when i say collectively chicks like something
You frown. He’s so annoying.
hoseokie [1:12PM]: attachment 1 image
Ah. There it was. The true reason why you’ve decided to come.
The picture mostly shows the food that sits at the table, but the angle that Hoseok takes it from gives you a glimpse of the kitchen, a delicious glance because right there is a take for inspiration for your own that you’d like to see for yourself. With that, you figure you’d hit two birds with one stone; getting to steal an idea for a small kitchen and celebrate Hoseok’s... breakup? You’re not even sure what this is for.
“Uh, where’s the kitchen? I want to wash my hands.”
He’s kind of drunk, so you’re thankful he doesn’t probe for more information, like why the kitchen and not the bathroom. “Downstairs. Do you need me to take you?”
“Nah, I’m good.” You grin, walking in the direction he points afterwards. On route to the kitchen, you spot the catering of Chick-Fil-A. Guess he kept to his word after all.
That’s when you spot him.
Jungkook is sitting on one of the white leather couches that Hoseok’s yacht is built with, arms resting on the top of the seat while surrounded by women who giggle with their hands on his chest with hearts coming from their eyes in admiration. “Kook-ie, you’re so funny! Who knew someone like you would have such a beautiful personality!”
You have to swallow the vomit that’s begging to leave your body.
Finally downstairs, you get to see it yourself with your own eyes. It’s beautiful. So beautiful that you can’t believe that a room can look this beautiful, and on top of that, it looks untouched. Reaching the stove, you almost hold in your breath from all the excitement forming in you, pulling the handle out to peek inside. “Jesus, stainless steel, great for cleaning, so much space, enough for inventory, and so much wattage—”
“Are you getting turned on by a stove?”
Fuck. Slamming it the oven shut, you abruptly straighten yourself. “Uh, no.” Turning to see the owner of the voice, you frown at the sight. Of course, with your luck, it’s Jungkook. “I’m just really curious on how people do their kitchens. I wanna open a bakery and want some ideas on how to work with a limited amount of space.”
Your breath hitches at the view; the shirt he has on is barely even buttoned, exposing his toned chest, and his hair is slicked back with a comma curl that hangs over his forehead. His lips are pink and plump, arms are tight in their sleeves, and when he leans over on the counter across from where you stand, the smile that tugs on the edges of his mouth is so pretty. “Hire an interior designer. Why do you need to do it yourself?” His breath already reeks of alcohol, and the drink in his hand almost screams that it’s not going to be his last either. “I don’t have the money for it.”
“Sure you do, you have two jobs. Why do things yourself when other people can do it for you?” You roll your eyes at him. “Because, unlike you, I have student debt. I need to pay for that and start a business. It’s not easy. I need to make a profit somewhere.”
He shrugs before saying nonchalantly, “I’ll pay for you.”
“With what money?” It comes out faster than you expected, but it’s too late to back down now. “With the money my mom gave me,” He responds calmly, tapping his fingers against the counter. “It’s more than enough to start a business.”
You nearly piss your pants. His mother’s allowance was enough to fucking start a business. Jungkook was indeed not in lack of resources and with the way his mom was taking care of this meant he will never truly learn responsibility.
“Are you kidding me?” You’re almost gasping for air. “Your mom gives you that much money for an allowance? What are you? I thought she was cutting you off. At this rate, you’re never going to actually be an adult. How are you even going to prove to her that you’re capable?”
He gets up from the counter, startled by your sudden outburst. “What makes you think I’m incapable?”
“You were just about to give me money to start a business. This is the second time you’ve met me, Jungkook. You don’t even know me. You don’t even know what the business is for, what my plans are, and where it’s going to be. You were just going to throw away good money without even having any knowledge of what it’s going to be used for!”
Unsure what to say, he speaks the only thing that comes to mind. “I trust you because you’re friends with Hoseok, and well, I trust Hoseok.” How could a guy with five older siblings who all went to prestigious ivy league universities, including attending one of them himself, be so gullible and naïve?
“That means nothing, Jungkook. All it means is that we have a mutual friend. I can’t stand kids like you, strutting around with all the money in the world without knowing what to do with it. You have no real responsibilities, no real life plan, no dreams— nothing! All you do is fuck around and get drunk. What a fucking waste of space.” You shake your head before climbing up the stairs out of the lower level of the yacht, heated from Jungkook. He hasn’t actually said or done anything actually wrong yet you can’t help but hate him. Jungkook was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and all you can think about is how you were born with a plastic one instead.
You’re not actually anyone to Jungkook. No, not really, especially since yes, like you mentioned before, it’s only the second time he has met you. Whether or not if the proposal for paying for those things were serious, he wasn’t sure why he made you upset so easily.
But it hurt. Those things you said really hurt— more than when he speaks to his brothers.
So he drinks. He drinks the pain away or just enough that it fades to the point he doesn’t notice it as much anymore.
When you catch him slouched on the couch alone, cheeks flush pink from what you assume is from the beer sitting in his hands loosely, guilt washes over you. Without much thought, you’re already making your way to the innocent looking boy, buttoning his shirt up and tearing the can from his grip. You figured you’d take him home, it’s the least you can do after flipping him off earlier.
Tumblr media
With Jungkook’s arm draping over your shoulder, you wince when the button on his sleeve tugs on your necklace. “Jungkook, could you at least try lifting yourself up so I’m not doing all the heavy lifting here?” He doesn’t say much but mumbles with drool coming out from the side of his mouth, emitting a whine from you.
“Oh my god, is that Jungkook?” Mrs. Jeon drops the book she reads in what seems like a living room, rushing toward your side before Jungkook vomits again on the marble floor. “Hana! Nayeon! Please come clean this up— quickly, quickly, please.” She pulls his other arm over her shoulder, tugging him along with you before reaching the couch, letting him settle down easy. If she wasn’t here, you would’ve thrown him on it. “Sorry CEO Jeon, I wanted to take him back to his place but... I didn’t know where he lived and I didn’t really feel comfortable leaving him by himself like this. So... I googled your estate and here we are.”
She gives you a pained smile, clenching your heart at the same time before she’s draping a blanket onto Jungkook’s sleeping body. “Would you like some tea?”
It feels weird sitting on a tall stool chair at a marble countertop island in such a huge kitchen. There was more than enough space to hire a staff sized for a large wedding venue, and truth to be told, you were jealous of the appliances that were stocked. If only you could touch the deck oven, just one touch...
Mrs. Jeon says your name for the first time since you’ve introduced yourself, interrupting your thoughts. “Ah, yes, CEO Jeon?”
“You keep calling me that. Do you perhaps work at one of my franchises?”
Rubbing the sides of the mug full of tea anxiously, you nod. “Two, actually. I work at one of the supermarkets down in Seoul, and a café at the University. I admire your plans and how you treat your employees, so I based my search on that.”
There’s a smile that jumps upon her lips, and it’s genuinely full of joy in comparison to the one she shares when you dragged Jungkook in. “A hard-working class citizen. I love that.” She brings the mug to her lips, taking a sip of her tea before sitting it down gently. “You brought Jungkook here. Are you two... an item, maybe? I’ve never seen him bring anyone home.”
Hastily, you wave your hands in front of you in denial. “Oh, no, no, CEO Jeon, we are not. If anything, I brought him home.” You pause for a moment as she eyes you carefully. “Oh, wait, no, not like that, I meant brought him to his home, here. Not to my house. Gosh, no, that’s weird.” Mrs. Jeon laughs, leaning back, almost stumbling off her seat and you were already set on your toes in preparation to catch her. “Geez, my son displeases you that much? Honestly, I wouldn’t be so opposed if you told me that you both were in a relationship.”
You blink. “Really? Why’s that? I kind of expected you to hope for him to go for someone who’s a bit more... accustomed to this lifestyle? Not that there’s anything wrong with it... I just... this is a bit different.”
Although you had been preoccupied with dragging Jungkook into the house, there was no missing in the way their home looked. Chandelier hanging in the hall off the ceiling with crystal-like features that you were sure were actually authentic diamonds, walls and floors were marble and granite, portraits and paintings that hung on the walls were originals, and the size of the home itself was... breathtakingly prodigious. The kitchen alone was a prime example— from your own personal research and knowledge, the appliances were top tier products of the industry, only the best of the best were able to afford it. Not to mention that the dimensions of the kitchen was about four times the surface area of your apartment.
Mrs. Jeon shakes her head in lack of approval, tapping her fingers against the ceramic cup. “No, I want my sons to go for love that they feel is real. But for Jungkook, I always hope for more than just that, someone who can teach him that this life of luxury isn’t necessarily everything. He hasn’t found anyone yet, or at least, I still hope it’s you, but I figured cutting him off the money would be the next best option.”
You tilt your head to the side, mouth open in hesitation. “But... you didn’t cut him off. Jungkook still gets an allowance.”
“Yes, but—“
“Sorry to interrupt, but isn’t that defeating the purpose? Like... you want Jungkook to go off and learn responsibility and what it means to be a functioning adult yet you’re still giving him money. I don’t want to criticize but...” You’re expecting her to jump at the chance to interject, mention something about how you’re overstepping, but she does nothing. Instead, her shoulders slouch and she frowns. “Am I doing this wrong? Should I take his allowance away?”
Honesty seems like an iffy noun to act on at the moment, but you speak words with it, nonetheless. “CEO Jeon, don’t get me wrong, you are a great person. But if you’re trying to teach your egotistical and spoiled-rotten son some life lessons, putting a step stool down for him isn’t going to make it any better.”
Tumblr media
“It was you, wasn’t it!” Jungkook exclaims, stomping into the supermarket with his face flushed red with anger, hair pushed back with a vein popping out on his forehead. He has his pointer finger directed at you, startling Hoseok as he shoves Jungkook’s finger down. “Ok, I get you’re mad, but no pointing please. You may proceed.”
He scoffs. “She did this, you know. My mom cut me off. Completely! Done, I’m so done for. How the hell am I supposed to pay for anything? All she gave me was the money I earned from those modeling gigs in the past. What the hell is that going to do for me two months from now?”
“Uh... I don’t know, get a job?” You say sarcastically, unfazed by his fit of temper. If childish is how he’s going to act, he might as well embarrass himself while he’s at it. “It’s not my fault that she decided to actually cut you off.” Jungkook doesn’t get the right to come in here, full of flames just because of something you suggested to his mother the night he blacked out. He doesn’t, especially not after you learn from Mrs. Jeon why she wants to do this in the first place.
“Where the fuck am I supposed to get a job?”
Hoseok stares at Jungkook blankly for a moment before pointing to a sign behind him, taped to the wall with big letters printed.
CASHIER FOR HIRE @ THE JEON MARKET! PLEASE SEE AN ASSOCIATE FOR DETAILS ON HOW TO APPLY!
Jungkook lets out a heavy breath of defeat, falling back against the counter, fingers raking his strands of hair back stressfully. “Fuck, fuck...” He closes his eyes, head falling back. “... Fuck.”
Tumblr media
It’s barely even the start of his first day and he’s presently on the verge of throwing another hissy fit when the apron doesn’t tie around his body like it does for the other workers. “Are you fucking—”
Snatching the fabric from his hands, you can see through Jungkook’s orbs that he’s ready to pounce at you for doing that, but you’re already standing on the tip of your toes as he dips down unconsciously for you while pulling the loop over his head. “This is so much easier when you’re calm, cool, and collected enough to think like a sane person.” He mutters a quick thanks, jutting out a puff of air from his lips. “Also, tie your hair up, will you? It doesn’t look professional.”
“Professional?” He scoffs, shaking his head as you’re slipping off the hair band that’s on your wrist, handing it over to him that he grabs unwillingly. “This place is far from professional. It’s a freaking goddamn supermarket.”
“It’s just... in your face and we have an employee handbook that wants your hair out of your face so the customers can see your lovely smile.”
“You think my smile is lovely?” His heart is warm at the compliment but it quickly fades when you respond, “No, it’s how it’s worded in the handbook. I’m only quoting what I read.”
“Why are you helping me anyway? I thought you didn’t like me.” This was true, notably since you’ve last spoken to him was with fury and fire in your eyes. But you merely just roll your eyes this time, turning away to turn the dial on your locker, pulling a slip of paper out to hand to him. “I was assigned to train you. Here’s your locker combo. Don’t think I’m doing this to be nice to you.”
“I’m still trying to understand what I did wrong that made you hate me.”
Tying your own hair back in the magnetic mirror that hangs on your locker door, there’s clips in your mouth to push your bangs back and Jungkook can’t help but find the action so... attractive. After taking the bobby pins from your mouth and slipping them into your hair, you straighten your shirt before turning to face him. “Because I can’t stand entitled people. And you are one of them.”
His mouth drops and closes several times before he finally gets the guts to speak up. “You don’t even know me.”
“I know enough,” Tugging the apron over your head and knotting the strings behind you, you inhale sharply afterwards. “I know that you’re the CEO’s youngest son, the bachelor, who basically doesn’t really do anything but freeload off his parents and spend their money. You’ve never had a real job before today and if I’m being totally honest, I kind of expect you to fail.”
“To fail?” He exasperates, his posture stiffens, in disbelief of your perspective. “I haven’t even started the job yet and you had this image of me build up before I even get the chance to clock in.”
“Speaking of, come here, I’ll show you how to clock in.”
Trailing behind you to a mysterious machine that hangs on the wall, he can’t help but attempt to sink everything in around him. He’s in the back of a supermarket, his mother’s supermarket, one of many, dressed in their uniform with his luxurious hair tied back, hidden away from all the people to admire. The locker room has flickering melancholic lights that he realized are unflattering when he looks at himself in the mirror earlier, and the people here drag their legs when leaving through the double doors to start the shift, all the way to the end.
“Hello, Earth to Jungkook?” You wave your hands in front of his drifted gaze, frowning at his sudden daydream.
“I can’t believe that it’s gotten this bad. I have to work... like a real job. I’ve never had a job in my entire life.”
“Well, yeah. I mentioned that just moments ago.”
His stare shifts to you, worry written all over his face. “I’m above all of this, above all of the people working here. I know what it’s like to be happy—I have money for god’s sake, I don’t need any of this. I could be working some corporate job right now that requires less effort.”
“Jungkook, I haven’t even started the training yet.”
He still hasn’t learned how to clock in before a shift yet and he’s already prepping to quit this job.

TGF Thoughts: 5x01- Previously on...
Welcome back!! I’m so excited to be writing one of these again. I think this hiatus has been the longest I’ve gone without new Diane Lockhart content in ten years, and it sure feels like it. A lot of important stuff has happened in the time since TGF season four ended (not concluded—ended). Most notably, CBS All Access became Paramount+ and suddenly started offering a lot of content I care about! I kid. 2020 was quite an eventful year, so I was curious how television’s most topical show was going to take it on. TGF is always forward-looking, but too much happened in 2020 to be ignored. And while I didn’t think TGF would have much to say about the pandemic, it seemed impossible to imagine a season five that pretended it never happened. Going into this premiere, I was expecting that they’d either skip COVID entirely or include very few references, but after seeing this episode, I feel like the writers took the only approach that made sense. And that is why they are the writers, and I'm just some girl on the internet who writes recaps.
Anyway, before I dive into the episode, I should also note that my pandemic boredom spurred me to actually pay $30 to watch this episode early as part of the virtual ATX Festival. Yes, I paid $30 on top of the money I spend every month on Paramount+ for this show. But I write tens of thousands of words about each TGF episode—are my priorities really that surprising? I note this not to brag or even to poke fun at myself, but because watching the episode before I knew a single thing about it (not even the title!) completely changed my viewing experience. I’ve never had an experience like this with TGW or TGF. I’m one to search for critics tweeting cryptically about screeners and refresh sites looking for background extras (haven’t done this in the TGF era, though) and read every single piece of press I can find. For any big episode, I usually know the outline of what to expect going in (I even knew about Will before the episode aired in the US!). Not this one! So, I got to be surprised, and I had to—gasp—formulate my own opinions before I knew what anyone else thought! It was really pleasant, actually. I think the structure of the episode worked extremely well for me because it caught me by surprise... and also because I’m the kind of person who somehow managed to write a college paper about Previously On sequences.
I see Tumblr has made it so that “keep reading” expands the post in your dash instead of opening a new tab. I absolutely hate this. Here is a link to the post you can click instead of the keep reading button!
The ATX stream started mid-sentence, meaning I missed the “Previously On... 2020...” title card and skipped right to Adrian saying “I’m retiring.” It was pretty easy to pick up on the device (the directness of the scenes at the start, their cadence, and their placement in the episode made it clear this was meant to mimic a Previously) but the second title card hit way harder because... well, I had no idea if this was meant to be 2020 or some moment outside of real time until a bit later in the episode.
Man, before I get any farther into this, two things that I don’t know where else to put. First, this episode had to cover so much ground. They had to write out both Adrian and Lucca—more on that later--, figure out how to deal with all of 2020, figure out how to either wrap up or continue all the truncated season 4 plotlines, and set the stage for a new season... in 50 minutes.
Second, just wanna shout out the Kings’ other Paramout+ show, Evil, which you should absolutely be watching even if you hate horror. Evil is a Kings show, so it is unsurprisingly topical (sometimes evil takes the form of racism or misogyny or Scott Rudin) and at times very, very funny. I would be recapping it if Paramount+ weren’t attacking me personally by airing it at the same time as TGF. Ever hear of too much of a good thing, people?! (On that note, I am VERY upset with myself for not having made a Good vs Evil joke about the Good shows and Evil. I didn’t even think about it until Robert King made the joke on Twitter, and it was right fucking there. How did I fail so miserably?!)
So STR Laurie, who wants a 20% downsizing, is still a thing. Noted.
This scene with Landau is the only one in this previously that is actually old footage, right?
Unexpected Margo Martindale! Yay! (Ruth Eastman is a character who is so much more effective on Fight than she was on Wife and I’m quite glad they’ve had her appear on Fight several times. It kind of redeems season seven. Kind of.)
I don’t think the writers intentionally chose for Adrian’s book deal to be with Simon & Schuster because it is the most politically fraught publisher (the number of stories about controversial memoirs they’ve picked up in 2021 alone...) but I kind of like that Adrian’s Road Not Taken involves S&S. My guess is they chose S&S because it is owned by ViacomCBS.
“Years ago, I wanted to create a law firm run entirely by women, but it never worked out. So, why not now?” Diane says to Liz. One of the advantages of having twelve (!!!) seasons of Diane Lockhart is that we’ve seen what she’s talking about. And we’ve seen her put this idea forward multiple times, too. I have my reservations about Diane’s brand of feminism, and I’ll say more about how fraught a Diane/Liz firm would be as the show explores the potential issues there, but on the surface I’m kind of excited about the prospect of a Diane/Liz led firm. Diane has wanted this for ages, Liz is a good partner, and this actually makes sense (unlike the nonsensical Diane/Alicia alliance of late season seven, where the only rationale was “well, Alicia needs to betray Diane in the finale, but they’re not on good terms. So maybe we make them business partners so then the betrayal stings more?”). Plus I fully love that Diane would end up running a firm with Alicia’s law school rival.
(Has TGF mentioned that Liz and Alicia were law school rivals? No. Am I still clinging on to that as a large part of Liz’s character? ABSOLUTELY.)
Julius is on trial for Memo 618 reasons; Diane is defending him. So this is still happening. (There’s more old footage here.)
Do they put these references to one/two party consent in these episodes as a wink at the fans? It has to be intentional. (Please do not ask me what the actual law is on this, this show has thoroughly confused me.)
I knew Cush was filming stuff for TGF, but I didn’t know it was for the premiere. She was just posting about it a few weeks ago, so either they shot a lot of it right before air or she posted a while after filming. Anyway, yay Lucca!
Bianca’s still around. And, TGF gets to shoot New York for New York, since Bianca is there. I do wish TGF could do more location shoots; there’s something about seeing an actual skyline that feels more real.
Bianca wants Lucca, who has never been outside of the country (except to St. Lucia, as Bianca reminds her) to go to London and buy her a resort. It’s supposed to be a three week stay and Bianca’s already arranged childcare. Speaking of children, because of COVID and filming constraints, that’s Cush’s real kid in this scene! You can’t really see him, but I recognized his curly hair from Cush’s Instagram, and the Kings confirmed in an interview.
Adrian wants to write a book about police brutality cases he’s worked on. Ruth very much does not want him to write that book. She wants him to write a book without substance about how white people and black people can work together. He, understandably, has no interest in writing this book. (Also, you can see in the background that Ruth doesn’t think Biden’s odds of winning the Democratic primary are good—there is a big down arrow next to his picture, which definitely dates this scene.)
Oh, David Lee is in this episode. He acts like an asshole towards Marissa when she’s trying to help him.
Marissa, not happy with the lack of respect, calls Lucca for advice “for a friend.” Lucca mentions she’s in London and Marissa does not believe her and keeps going on and on about her frustrations and her new desire to become a lawyer—quickly.
Marissa wanting to become a lawyer because she “hates being talked down to” is not a plot I would’ve expected but it’s also one that makes a lot of sense. I think Marissa’s used to being respected and praised even when she’s doing things that aren’t glamorous, so I see how she’d get very restless when she’s no longer outperforming expectations and is instead taken for granted.
Bells toll in the background on Lucca’s side and Marissa asks where she is. Lucca again notes she’s in London and Marissa still doesn’t believe her.
I’m going to miss Lucca so much, especially since we’ll also be losing a lot of the Millennial Friendship scenes with her. Cush is fantastic (even if she never really got enough to do here) and she plays so well off of the rest of the cast. I even sometimes liked the writing for Maia (who?) when she had scenes with Lucca, Lucca is that good.
Jay wakes up sweating and unable to breathe, so he deliriously calls his father-figure Adrian. This whole scene is shot like something out of Evil and (I’m getting ahead of myself here) this plot is the only thing about this episode I felt was a misstep.
“I think you’re my father,” Jay says to Adrian. Heh, I didn’t catch this line the first time around (maybe subliminally I did, since I just called Adrian his father figure lol) but I love that it is included here. Adrian and Jay’s relationship definitely deserves a goodbye.
Adrian calls an ambulance and also gets to Jay before the ambulance somehow. Adrian notes that Jay might have “this thing from China” and... we’re doing the pandemic, y’all. (Minor nitpick: on March 13th, 2020, when this scene is dated, COVID was not “this thing from China”-- we were all aware of it. March 11th was the day Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson announced they’d tested positive and the NBA shut down and travel was restricted and every single brand that had my email sent me a message about their plans and measures. March 12th was the last time I was in my office, and we’d been getting emails telling us to wash our hands and prepare to work remotely for weeks. I went to San Francisco in mid-late February and distinctly remember deciding to leave a burrito unattended on a table while I washed my hands because I was paranoid about COVID... and then I remember making a specific trip to Walgreens to buy hand sanitizer so that didn’t happen again. My point is, Adrian lives in the same world I do. On March 13th 2020, he would not be treating COVID like it was some new thing he’d vaguely heard of.)
(I am going to nitpick this timeline, but please know that I’m only doing it because I can, not because I think it’s necessarily a bad choice. Lines like this do feel a little forced, but I see the reason for introducing COVID as something new rather than going for the line that’s exactly historically accurate. I also am pretty sure there are references to dates in March/April in s4 of TGF that are now going to be contradicted by this episode, but I truly do not care. The writers get a pass on this one.)
We skip slightly back in time to the beginning of March after the MARCH 13TH title card, or maybe this is supposed to be after March 13th and my own memories are preventing me from believing these face-to-face interactions were happening. Who knows.
Michael Bloomberg is... here, again, I guess? He asks Diane to assist with a Supreme Court case about gun control. I guess it does add some weight to the plot and make the stakes feel higher.
Oh hey, this case is the 7x17 case!!!! Love that continuity.
Diane and Adrian are both at the office late, working, and there is an unnecessary split screen that feels even more unnecessary when you consider that the editing alone was enough to create the parallel.
Diane and Adrian have a nice convo (which I’ll really miss, their dynamic is great and this really feels like a successful partnership) as they wait for the elevator. When the elevator dings, they nearly tumble down into nothingness because... the elevator never came. Apparently this is a reference to an law old show I’ve never seen that killed off a character this way, and it’s meant to be a wink at how they are not going to kill off Adrian.
I do not know why I remember this, but I do: after they killed off Will, a critic (Noel Murray; I just googled to confirm my memory) who didn’t want to spoil things tweeted, “Exactly 23 years and 2 days ago, Rosalind Shays fell down an elevator shaft.” Please tell me why I remember this reference that I didn’t even understand well enough to have tracked down the original tweet in under a minute. Back on this show, Diane and Adrian share a drink and talk about their wishes. Diane wants to argue in front of the Supreme Court, and Adrian encourages her to speak up. His own near-death experience motivates him to trash the book Ruth has him writing, and Diane trashes the (bad) legal strategy someone else prepared for the Supreme Court.
DIANE IS WEARING JEANS!!!!!! Tbh, I think my favorite part of this episode is how many slice-of-life scenes and settings we get. These are always my favorite moments. I love the satirical and political stuff too, but the character moments are what get me invested enough to write these. (Yes, Diane in jeans constitutes a character moment.)
Diane tells Bloomberg she wants to be involved and advocates for herself. Kurt gets a call on their landline (hahaha) from Adrian.
God, I love Diane and Kurt. Not only is their banter fun, you can just see a different, more relaxed side of Diane in these scenes. Diane tells Kurt she has good news for herself, but bad news for him since she’s arguing for gun control. She asks him to help her prep for court, too.
So this is before Jay is rushed to the hospital, because now we are back at the hospital with Julius, Diane, and Marissa. I do not believe any of these people would be setting foot in a hospital like it’s any other day on March 13th, 2020. But I'm trying not to nitpick.
I get why they chose to give Jay a rather severe case of COVID. I just don’t get literally anything else that follows from the initial shock of Jay having COVID.
I see why the writers chose March 20th (the actual Illinois stay at home order) as the next date for this timeline. I still do not believe that people were in this particular office on that date.
You know what else I don’t believe? That RBL just shut down for two weeks and was like, no work is being done. Did law firms really do this? I can believe it if it’s an excuse to cost-cut, and I know there were massive layoffs, but this seems... really weird???
Why are they setting up a teleconferencing infrastructure (didn’t they have one at LG? In season five?) if they are not planning to do work?
Lol Diane explains what Zoom is, very slowly. She asks everyone to “download a program called Zoom.com” which is one of the first Zoom jokes I’ve chuckled at in a while.
Marissa is not happy to hear that there’s no work for her in a work-remote world (this I believe 100%), so she calls Lucca again with more questions about law school.
Love these NYC and London location shots. Wish they could do that for Chicago.
Lucca asks Bianca to help get Marissa into a law school, fast, and Bianca tells Lucca to use her name... then offers her a job.
Marissa is at the office, alone, boxing up her things, when one of the office phones rings with some dude offering her a spot in a law school class. I guess we are really all-in on this! (Why would Lucca have given a firm phone number not specific to Marissa, though?)
Adrian and his corrupt girlfriend decide to shelter in place together. I still do not understand why he is okay with her being corrupt. I also don’t really understand why they’re going from talking about sheltering-in-place to George Floyd. How did we just skip from late March to late May? Are Adrian and corrupt gf having a conversation about sheltering-in-place two months into sheltering in place?
Okay, I am not doing so good at this no-nitpicking thing. Again, I understand why they need to merge several scenes into one to keep things moving. And I guess they could just be getting around to this conversation.
I’m going to nitpick again, I can’t help myself. How did we just go from a scene of Adrian specifically talking about sheltering in place to a scene of Adrian bursting into a bustling and maskless DNC headquarters room? How!? The only masks in this scene are on TV!! There are like ten people in this scene!
Anyway, more importantly, Adrian tells Ruth off and screams at her that she needs to listen to him instead of acting like she knows the way forward. He is completely right.
Why is travel from London closing down in May 2020? Is it because this scene is supposed to be at a different place in the episode? Liz is asking Lucca to come back home from her three week stay in London (which has now lasted three months but travel is just now closing down), and Lucca’s hesitant to come home.
This is all happening via Zoom, btw. Lucca’s in her hotel, Diane and Adrian are at their respective homes, and Liz is in the office. All of this feels right. There is a chat off to the side of the screen where you can see Adrian and the others discussing how to unmute on Zoom. Very real. Though probably not very real in late May 2020. Feels more like April. I am convinced this scene got spliced in later to help the episode flow because everything in this scene (except the TV footage that definitely was added later) feels like it should be happening in the March section.
Lucca mentions that Bianca offered her a job, and at this point we as viewers know how things are going to go—Lucca's going to end up taking it. Liz types in the Zoom chat that they don’t want to lose Lucca. When Lucca tells them how much Bianca’s offering ($500k/year, go Lucca!), Diane types “Shit.” into the chat. “Shit’s right,” Liz replies. “Yes... What should our counter be?” Diane replies. Lucca is kind enough to point out the messages are not private (again, this feels like March not May) but I think knowing that their reaction to topping $500k is “shit” tells her all she needs to know.
Diane’s background still says that RBL is a division of STR Laurie. Weird how little we are hearing about the overlords except the 20% staff cut.
Liz and Adrian chat and decide the only way to keep Lucca is to make her a partner. Which, yeah, if you’d just made her a partner years ago when you told her she was in the running for partner and then offered it to fucking MAIA, maybe she wouldn’t be considering Bianca’s offer. Lucca is definitely one of RBL’s stars, and I don’t think she’s wrong to feel like they don’t value her enough. They treat her well enough to be upset about losing her, but not well enough to have already made her partner and not well enough to actually give her authority (even though she runs a whole department). I’d be pretty unhappy too. It kind of feels sometimes like they take her for granted, and I don’t know that Lucca is one to feel like she owes a company anything. She’s more of an “I’m out for myself” type.
Madeline and the other partner we’ve seen a few times who isn’t Liz/Diane/Adrian, walk into the office (wearing masks! Which they take off as soon as they enter a room with Liz! Without asking her if she is okay with this! TV logic!) and ask who is replacing Adrian. They think this is a good time to reevaluate having a white name partner of an African American firm, and they are spot on. Liz tries to deflect, noting that Diane is already a name partner and was before Liz even joined, but Madeline and other partner (whose name I really wish they would say so I can stop calling him “other partner”) won’t let up. Their position is that Diane shouldn’t have been made a name partner then—all she did was bring in ChumHum, an account that quickly left the firm. Good point.
“What is this firm if it’s not African American? It’s just another midsized all-service Midwestern law firm, one of 50,” Madeline argues. The other partner says Liz needs to remove Diane and promote two African Americans to name partner. Liz laughs and asks if they mean themselves. Madeline does not—she's concerned about the number of black associates they’re letting go. Liz heads out, but this conversation is very much ongoing.
And I think it’s a very interesting dilemma! There’s a lot of mileage the writers can get out of this, because I don’t think there’s a right answer or a wrong one. It’s all about what Liz decides she wants the future of the firm to be. If Liz chooses Diane, she might be choosing something that works for her personally or that she thinks is a safer financial bet—but she’ll be choosing to work at a firm that can no longer be thought of as a black firm, and she’ll be choosing to move away from her father’s vision for the firm. And since the plot hinges on what Liz will decide rather than what’s objectively the right path forward, there’s a lot of interesting tension there I can’t wait to see.
(My favorite thing about Adrian leaving is that Liz will likely get more to do, especially when it comes to managing the firm. Adrian tends to speak up first, but Liz is more than capable of managing without him and I’m so excited to see what she does when her ex-husband isn’t constantly talking over her.)
Marissa and Lucca video chat with Jay. He’s still in the hospital. One thing that bugs me about how this episode handles COVID is that I never really get the sense that any of the characters are particularly afraid of the virus. Maybe none of them were. But you’d think you’d see a little of that fear, the weird dance of trying to assess others’ comfort levels with masking, etc., in an ep specifically about living through this time. ESPECIALLY since someone they all know and are close to has been hospitalized for MONTHS with this thing! It’s just so weird to go from a scene where people wear masks until they come in contact with other people (when masks matter the most) to a scene of someone in the hospital with COVID.
And now Jay’s weird hallucinations start as his battery dies on the video chat. I really, truly, hated these hallucinations. I was ready to be done with these from the second they started. They’re weirdly shot, they go on for too long, and they feel like the clunkiest parts of Mind’s Eye when Alicia starts having a debate in her mind about atheism mixed with the (far superior) hospital episode of Evil.
I don’t have much to say about these hallucinations except that I hated them a lot. When there’s the reveal that Jay is hallucinating a commerical, I almost came around on the hallucinations because that’s kind of funny and inspired. And then several more hallucinations popped up and they had a round table and Jesus got added to the mix and I was like, nope, this is bad in a very uninteresting way. I reject this.
I feel like the Kings didn’t have much to say about COVID, the actual virus. This episode is definitely more about what the characters’ lives were like during COVID and not the pandemic itself. I think they likely got a lot of their COVID commentary out of their system with their zombie COVID show The Bite (I have not seen The Bite due to it airing on Spectrum On Demand, which I have no way of accessing. Like, I would have to move and then decide to pay for cable in order to watch it.) I also suspect a lot of their commentary on COVID isn’t going to be specific to the virus and is instead going to be about things like mask-wearing and vaccinations becoming political. And, really, that’s just a new variation on talking about polarization... and they’ve been talking about polarization for years.
In fact, they even wrote a whole series about an outbreak of a (space-bug-spread) virus that caused political polarization before Trump was even elected. BrainDead is basically commentary on the pandemic before the pandemic even happened. Soooooo I get why they are more interested in recapping 2020 than in doing a Very Special Episode about themes they’ve been talking about for years. (I still think they would’ve benefitted from at least one character being afraid of getting sick or getting their family sick.)
There is likely some interesting content in these Jay hallucinations. I hate them so much I cannot find it. You know when you’re just on a completely different wavelength than the writers? This is an example of that.
Also I’m not a fan of the shadowy directing. I think this is meant to look cooler than it does.
Have I mentioned yet that I absolutely love the “Previously On” device for this episode? It’s such a fun, propulsive way to get through the slog of 2020. Scenes can be short and to the point, and each scene has to do a lot of lifting to fill in the gaps. I think that leads to scenes that are better constructed and telling on lots of levels—where are people when they’re quarantined? Who’s wearing casual clothes and when? What about this scene defines this character’s life at that moment in time?
Bizarrely, even though this episode is pretty much all plot (this happens! Then that!), I actually found this to be one of the most character-driven episodes TGF has ever done. There’s a lot of story, but most of that story is about how the characters reacted to 2020 rather than overarching plots that will weigh on the rest of the season. This episode covers a lot of ground, but it does it with character moments that resonate.
Now it’s July and Diane’s prepping to argue in front of the Supreme Court. Kurt’s helping her witness prep and it gets a little personal... and that ends up turning Diane on. Good to see McHart hasn’t lost its spark. (Remember how Kurt cheated on Diane in season 7 of Wife? No, me neither, because that never happened.)
Corrupt judge is back. Adrian playfully tries to distract her from work. Then he takes a video call from Liz, who updates him on the conversation she had with John (so that’s his name) and Madeline. I guess that part of May was close to July? Anyway, Adrian isn’t surprised to hear that people are upset at the prospect of Diane being one of two name partners.
Liz is at the office in workout clothes and I love it!
They’re losing 15 black associates (and Adrian and Lucca) and 4 white ones, Liz says. This sounds like a very big problem. (I’d be curious to know what that is as a percentage of the firm and how the racial composition shifts.)
Liz knows it’s not exactly up to her if Diane stays on as name partner (the other partners get a vote, but I think Liz knows she has a lot of sway here). She’s also wondering if Biden could win, and if so, would it be to the firm’s advantage to be black-owned? Interesting.
“Well. If you’re thinking it, then Diane’s thinking it, too,” Adrian says. He’s right. “White guilt. It runs verrrrry deep on that one, huh?” Ha. He is right about that, too. I actually can’t decide which of these interpretations is correct, because it could be either even though they seem contradictory. (1) Is Adrian saying it with a hint of mockery because he knows Diane will fight for her partnership even as she would say she’s a huge supporter of black businesses? (2) Is he saying it because he knows Diane would have enough white guilt to realize what her presence as a partner means and think through the implications? I think it is, somehow, a combination. I’m interested in this line because this whole dilemma (from Diane’s POV) is something that’s very familiar. Diane’s always been an idealist who will betray her ideals for personal gain. That sounds like an attack, but I mean that as neutrally as I possibly can. There are so many examples of this that this is kind of just a character trait of hers at this point. Usually those ideals are about feminism, but this situation seems closely related.
Adrian overhears Corrupt GF talking about Julius, Diane, and Memo 618. You would think she would wait to have this conversation until there is no chance of Adrian overhearing, because if Adrian overhears, he might...
... do exactly what he proceeds to do and hop into a car with Diane to give her a heads up. (I think I’m just going to have to accept that the mask usage rule on this episode is “we use masks to show that the characters would wear them, but we don’t want to have scenes where characters are fully masked because that’s annoying.” If that’s not the rule, then why else would Adrian be masked outside... and then take off his mask as soon as he gets into a confined indoor space with Diane?
Baranski looks ESPECIALLY like Taylor Swift in this scene.
Adrian tells Diane what he knows. He dug deeper after overhearing Charlotte, so he has even more info. “If you tell me, I will use it,” Diane warns. Adrian knows that, so he takes a moment to decide. And he decides that he cares more about Diane and Julius than about his relationship with a corrupt judge.
Diane and Julius are masked in court. Visitor and the judge are not. They use masking in a clever way in this scene: Diane uses being masked to her advantage because it means no one can possibly read her lips, so she can use the info Adrian fed her against Charlotte without any fear of spies. Charlotte, who is unmasked, guards her lips with a folder, as the Visitor watches interestedly.
Diane convinces Charlotte to recuse herself. Charlotte says she’s making a mistake; Diane does not care.
The new judge is, unfortunately, the idiot who doesn’t know anything about the law. Uh oh.
Charlotte decides she’s done sheltering in place with Adrian. He tries to talk through the conflict, but Charlotte says “You made your choice, Adrian. Julius Cain over me.”
“The choice was about right and wrong, Charlotte,” Adrian tries to explain. I mean, yeah, but if you’re dating a judge who has admitted she’s totally corrupt, didn’t right and wrong go out the window a while ago?
Adrian seems to think the other people involved in the events are bad and Charlotte is good. I am not convinced. I don’t think she’s the big bad, but I don’t think she’s good.
Charlotte points out that he invaded her privacy. She is right about that. “You said the choice was between right and wrong. Turning over my emails was the choice,” she said. I get her POV. But also, she is corrupt.
I do not like the way the part of the scene where Adrian physically restrains Charlotte to keep her from leaving is shot. I don’t think this is an abusive scene but I think it should’ve been shot from a little farther back so we could see it’s more like Adrian reaching out in desperation than trying to choke Charlotte. Because it very much looks like he is trying to choke Charlotte.
He tells Charlotte he loves her. She says it’s too late and leaves. “Maybe you won’t be with me. But you keep down this path... you’ll be done, I’m telling you, you’ll be done.”
I think something that I’ve been missing in these interactions is that I didn’t quite realize until this scene that the Adrian/Charlotte dynamic is more interesting than Adrian liking a corrupt judge. I think he truly believes Charlotte is a good person who got caught up in some bad stuff, and that she can bounce back from it. I’ve always seen Charlotte as someone who is corrupt for herself and then ended up going along with the corruption of others, too, so I’ve dismissed her and the relationship. This is the first scene that has felt real to me, and the first scene where she’s felt like more than a caricature. Kind of sad it’s the last she’ll get with Adrian—now I’m actually starting to find her interesting. Notice how in these last few sentences I’ve used her name instead of “Corrupt GF”!
Charlotte says she loved Adrian too, but that’s not enough. Awww.
He can’t really be surprised though, can he?
Now it is August and we get to see Diane and Liz react to the announcement of Kamala Harris as Biden’s VP pick, and I would like to thank the writers for giving me the opportunity to see Diane and Liz react to this. It’s kind of fan-service, but it’s also a nice tie-in to the girl-power theme of the Diane/Liz alliance.
Diane and Liz realize that Adrian’s probably not a good candidate for 2024 if the DNC only wants one black candidate and Harris is the clear front-runner. Liz suggests keeping him on as partner instead, in a way that very much implies this would be her ideal solution. Diane, being Diane, says she was liking the idea of an all-female firm. Liz hesitantly says she was too, and Diane senses the hesitation.
“Let’s look again at which associates to fire. I’m worried we’re losing too many African Americans,” Diane switches the subject. How have they still not made this decision? If any employees know downsizing is coming, and they’ve had months to act on it, assuming there are jobs elsewhere, people would’ve been jumping ship by now.
But that’s not the point of this scene. The point of this scene is that Liz corrects Diane: “Black. You can just say Black people.” Very nice moment underlining the tension. Diane means well, but she’s still acting like a white lady who doesn’t know how to act around black people... and she wants to (and, I guess, already does) run a black firm. Major yikes.
Marissa and Lucca are talking again. Marissa does not want to be in law school—she just wants to be a lawyer. Lucca won’t accept Marissa’s refusal to memorize meaningless rules: “Marissa. I know that you know how to play the game, but you have to pass the bar to get into a position to play the game.” Why does this line make me love Lucca? This line isn’t even anything amazing. It’s just a line that cuts through the bullshit and makes a good point.
Marissa keeps going, insulting all of her peers and teachers, and Lucca figures out how to cut through that, too: she tells Marissa that she’d hire her as a lawyer if she killed someone, but only if Marissa passes the bar. Marissa is instantly intrigued.
“Why are you leaving here? I’ll miss you,” Marissa says.
“Because they won’t pay me what I deserve,” Lucca says in a matter-of-fact tone. “Anyway, I thought they fired you.”
“But they didn’t mean it. It’s like the smoothie place—they kept trying to fire me and I just kept showing up,” Marissa replies. That checks out. (Love the callback!)
Lucca tries to get Marissa to come over to England. Marissa shuts that down as Lucca gets a news alert—and it’s not good news.
Our next date is September 18th, 2020 and I will get my nitpicks out of the way up front! I don’t really know why it is daytime for Lucca when she reads the news, considering it was already the evening in the States when the RBG news broke. And, also, it was Rosh Hashanah, so Marissa probably would not have been sitting in her bedroom studying... she most likely would’ve been with family or friends. OK I’M DONE. FOR NOW.
Diane is getting ready for her arguments in front of the Supreme Court. It’s almost time! She’s in casual clothes but has on a wonderful mask. She’s standing in front of Kurt’s guns to make a point (love that she’s using her video call background to her advantage) and there are several people in her bedroom getting the tech all set up. I have noted before that they only built one set for Diane’s apartment, and it’s just a massive bedroom. Diane choosing to be in front of the guns does a nice job of cutting off my question about why she’d be arguing in front of the Supreme Court from her bedroom rather than the home office she absolutely would have.
Kurt walks in and tries to shake hands... he’s clearly not very COVID paranoid, and Diane seems to be, and... that’s something I might have wanted to see? How was Diane okay with Kurt taking risks that also affected her?
Diane confirms she intentionally chose to stand in front of the guns. That’s when Kurt gets the push notification. He pulls Diane into the bathroom to show her the news. He hands her his phone and Diane’s face falls. She starts tearing up. “2020 just won’t let go,” she says, speaking for us all.
Normally I hate things that are like, we’re going to contrive this so the news hits at the worst possible moment! This works for me, because the Supreme Court plot for Diane feels more like something that exists to be a through line for the episode. It would also be a little hard to work in RBG’s death as a main plot point—and it is definitely important enough to be a main plotpoint—if it didn’t also affect something in the world of the show.
Also, another reason I like this contrivance is that it makes it all the more powerful when Diane says, “It’s over. He gets to nominate someone. Another Kavanaugh! We’ll have a conservative court for the next 20 years. My whole fucking life!” She’s not thinking about how this affects her case (and that case is basically a life-long dream for her). She is thinking about way bigger things, and knowing that her mind goes to the bigger things before the personal with news like this really underlines how big of a deal RBG’s death was.
Diane tells Kurt, “I don’t deserve you. You don’t agree with me.” “I can still feel bad for you,” he responds. He holds her while she cries.
Jay’s hallucination thing is back. Now Karl Marx is here. So is Jesus. I’m so done with this. It’s nice to get a break from writing.
Malcolm X is also on the roundtable and now they’re talking over each other in that way that everyone on this show always does. (RK gave an interview about Evil where he said he likes having the children on that show talk over each other because he grew up in a household like that. I did not need to read that interview to understand that RK likes scenes where people talk over each other.)
If anything happened in those hallucinations, I missed it, because I didn’t pause the episode. Because I do not care about the hallucinations. Because I hate them.
Now it’s November 2020... Diane’s watching election results and rocking back and forth. She tells Kurt he can go watch Fox News in the other room (so they do have more than one room!). He says he’s fine—he thinks Diane needs it more.
“Yes, but Kurt, if you stay, I know this isn’t sensible, but... Trump seems to get more votes whenever you’re sitting on this couch,” Diane tells him. Ha, I relate to this kind of superstition so hard. “Are you serious?” Kurt says. “I am so deathly serious,” Diane responds. “Whenever you’re sitting here, Arizona goes for Trump. Humor me, please. Just go in the other room.”
When Kurt tries to kiss her, she pulls away: “No, no, no. No kiss. If you kiss me, we’ll lose Georgia.” This scene feels so, so real and perfectly captures what it was like (at least for me, though I don’t have a Republican husband or anything) watching election results come in.
“Uh, if you lose, we’ll be fine, right?” Kurt asks. “Kurt, let me just say this. I’m only saying that we won’t be fine so that the universe will grant me a win,” Diane responds. This scene is so fun and so good! It simultaneously captures a relatable mood, adds some levity, gives us a window into Diane’s life, and shows some of the tensions in her marriage?! I want this all the time!
Kurt leaves the room. Diane pours more wine.
Later, with Diane still rocking back and forth with anxiety (just you wait for the several more days this will drag on!), Kurt brings in the champagne. “That was for when Hillary won. I can only drink it if Biden wins,” Diane protests. Did I also refuse to drink any celebratory alcohol until things were absolutely certain? No comment.
“It’s odd you progressives resisted religion. You seem to have a hundred religions to take its place,” Kurt says, speaking on behalf of the writers’ room. (This joke doesn’t get written if the writers don’t believe this and probably even see it in themselves.)
“Go away, Trump. I mean Kurt,” she shoos him away. Have I mentioned yet I love this scene?
“Love me even if you lose?” he jokes (though I do wonder if this isn’t that joking? I think it is, but he keeps saying it!) as Diane gestures at him to get out.
I could do without the joke about Diane’s heart on the TV for a couple reasons. One, it goes on too long. Two, I was very worried something would actually happen to Diane. You’d think that would make the scene feel more tense, but it does not, because it takes me out of the moment.
“Ok, God. You know I don’t believe in you. But I will believe in you if Joe Biden wins. I’m sorry. I know that that’s not what Jesus taught. There’s nothing in the New Testament that says, ‘Believe in me, and I’ll make sure your candidate wins,’ but I need Joe Biden to win. I’m sorry, God, but I just do. I need some faith.” This is a little much but... yeah. Also, is this the first time Diane’s flat out said she’s an atheist? I think it is, though I’ve assumed as much for quite a while.
The next day in court, masks are no longer required if you’re a series regular and votes are still being counted. I remember those days. Marissa thought Diane was checking in on Jay... Diane was not. She was checking on vote counts.
Apparently Jay’s finally being released from the hospital!
Bad news for Julius—the idiot judge finds him guilty of some nonsense charge and sentences him to seven years in prison.
Diane says not to worry, and Julius asks “Why not?” Good point.
Then we have election results! We skip, specifically, to December 14th and the electoral college vote. I’m a little sad we skipped over the huge party that was November 7th, but I get why they’d rather keep things moving along. I think showing November 7th in an uncomplicated way would’ve just been too close to fanservice. But, man, what a day.
Diane, in a red hoodie with leopard print that she somehow manages to still look classy in, is ready to pop champagne. Then she hears that on January 6th, a joint session of Congress will count the electoral votes and there might be a debate. “Nope. If I open it now, something bad will happen,” she reasons. “I’ve waited four years. I can wait another few weeks.”
It’s been almost a year and they’re still somehow negotiating with Lucca, but I understand why they’d space this out across the episode. Otherwise we’d have to say goodbye to Lucca in the first like, 15 mins of the episode and all those scenes would be in a row. I can forgive (and still nitpick) choices like this when the reasoning behind them seems sound.
Adrian says they don’t want to lose Lucca. He, Liz, and Diane are all in the conference room, and they ask Lucca for a yes or no on their latest offer by the end of the call. Diane offers Lucca partner—she'll be the youngest partner in the firm’s history—and she’ll get a $500,000/year salary. Adrian tries to sell her on being part of American history by being part of the firm.
“We are a black firm, Lucca, and we need you,” Liz says with a lot of passion for someone who knows she might very well partner with Diane. Diane looks at Liz with a bit of suspicion at this, wondering if Liz is showing her cards.
Lucca manages to make the wifi malfunction (or she gets very lucky) and uses the disconnection to call Bianca for a counteroffer, even though they said they needed a yes or no on the spot.
“They used George Floyd because they want you for less. They have never appreciated you as much as I do. All those scars, all that time being taken for granted and undervalued has made you a fighter. It’s made you someone I now want,” Bianca tells Lucca. She gives Lucca a counter offer of $1.3 million and the title of CFO. Lucca takes it. Is there really another choice? (If she were concerned about loyalty to the firm and the partnership was what she wanted, she probably would've just taken it.)
(Also, the partners can’t really act like Lucca is making history by being the youngest partner ever when they passed her over for partner two years earlier and offered it to Maia! To MAIA! Who had like three years of work experience! And yes I was fine with Alicia and Cary getting partnership offers with four years but, one, that was a scam, and two, Alicia and Cary actually worked. Oh, I see I still hate Maia with a passion. Back to THIS season...)
Lucca apologetically informs Marissa she’s leaving and the offer was just too good to turn down. I believe it. I also believe Lucca wants that job more. What has loyalty to RBL gotten her? She's someone so talented and good at her job that she just gets job offers from acquaintances all the time (starting with Alicia!). RBL appreciates her, but just enough to appease her while still undervaluing her. I don’t know that I would’ve believed a plot where Lucca actively job hunts, but I definitely believe this.
“Marissa, we don’t have to work together to be friends,” Lucca tells Marissa. I’m going to miss this so much. Why is this the best material Lucca’s gotten in ages?! I think one of the things that makes Lucca such a great character is that you can see why everyone instantly wants her on their team. She’s a fantastic friend (without giving too much of herself), she’s not a pushover, and she is incredibly sharp and able to get to the heart of any situation. I love her and I’m sad we won’t get to see more of her.
(On that bit about friendship—I can’t write about Lucca’s departure without writing about the moment I realized just how great of a character Lucca was. It was in 7x13, when Alicia has her breakdown that’s seven seasons in the making... and Lucca supports her. But the writing, and Cush’s performance, never make it feel like Lucca exists to be a part of Alicia’s story. Lucca seems like her own fully formed person who happens to be supporting Alicia at this moment. I don’t think I can overstate how tough of a task it is to get me to care about the other person in a pivotal Alicia scene, especially when that other person was added to the cast in the final season and many suspected she’d just be a replacement for a different beloved character! Anyway, Lucca’s been great for years, and I’ll miss her.)
Just when I thought I couldn’t hate the hallucinations more, we get a hint that they are going to continue: Jay sees one right after he learns that Marissa’s used her quarantine to start law school and he’s done nothing.
Jay says he carries a gun now and it’s “performative.” I have no idea what that means and Marissa and Lucca don’t seem to, either.
Another thing I like about Lucca’s final scene is that it isn’t rushed. We have time for all that, and also for Lucca to tell Marissa about the time she stole her breakfast sandwich, and for Marissa to react to it, and for Marissa to find Lucca’s Birkin bag, and for Lucca to tell Marissa to keep it, and for Marissa to react to that, and for Lucca to sappily say “think of me when you use it,” and for Marissa to nonsensically reply, “you think of me when I use it,” and there’s still a little bit more of the scene after that!
Marissa’s silly line makes Lucca tear up. “God, I’m gonna miss you guys,” she says. “I’m gonna miss this. You make me smile. I didn’t smile much before you guys.” Awwwwwww. This is also so true to character! Her friendship with Alicia aside, Lucca’s definitely said before she’s not one to have friends (which is hilarious because she is, as I've said like 100 times, a fantastic friend and also just like, the coolest person??? Who wouldn’t want to be HER friend?!).
She says she has to go because she’s getting too emotional and says goodbye. She’s also super sappy and when Marissa says, “you were the best,” she responds that they were the best TOGETHER! Awwwwwww.
What a nice, fitting goodbye for Lucca. There’s no bad blood or fireworks—she just makes a change like a lot of people do. I’d like to think she’ll still be friends with Marissa and Jay after this. I don’t want too many Lucca references in future episodes, but I would really like it if we see Marissa and Jay update each other on the latest from Lucca, or if a scene begins with Marissa closing out an Instagram post from Lucca of her kid, or something. I wouldn’t want clues about what Lucca’s up to, but I’d love to see that she’s still a part of Marissa and Jay’s lives.
Now it is January 6th. Liz, Adrian, and Diane sit on the floor of the mostly empty office, watching TV coverage and drinking. It’s so relaxed it’s almost surreal, and it, like many other moments in this episode, feels like a slice of life. Everyone’s dressed casually and no one is worried about appearances or looking like the boss.
“God, have you ever seen anything like it. It’s so fucked,” Diane says. Adrian’s more optimistic—the courts rejected most of the challenges to election results! “System worked,” he says. “Yay.” Liz says in response. She’s not as optimistic as he is.
“Liz. Liz. Sometimes when things work out, there is no parade. There’s no congratulations, but I’ll tell you this: We live to fight another day,” he explains to her even though she makes a good point that a system just barely hanging on doesn’t bode well for the future. (She doesn’t say all this, but that’s a very loaded, “Yay.”)
“Yeah? Then why are you leaving the law?” Liz asks. Diane seconds to the question.
Adrian announces he’s still retiring—and he’s moving to Atlanta. He wants to go to the south to help “create and consolidate political power.” He’s excited to start over and inspired by Georgia going blue. This is a very nice exit for Adrian. I fully believe that he’s interested in political organizing, that he’d be good at it, and that he’s ready for a change. I don’t think he’s always the most progressive person (of the three in this scene, Liz is absolutely the most progressive one, though Diane probably thinks she is!), but I absolutely think he thinks of himself as an activist and I believe that if he’s going to step away from the law, he’d do so to make a move like this.
Adrian—and Lucca, but especially Adrian—probably both got better exits thanks to the events of 2020. If Adrian had just left to be groomed by the DNC, that would’ve been a predictable and boring ending for him. His candidacy would, obviously, go nowhere, and the whole thing felt weird from the minute it was introduced. But this? Adrian being energized—like so many others were—by the ways the world changed in 2020 and using his already announced departure from the firm and recent breakup as a chance to start over and make change? This is great!
Adrian asks Liz and Diane what’s next for them. Liz says that she thinks the Biden admin will be better for black businesses. Adrian asks if they’re replacing him, and Diane says, “I think the big question is, are you replacing me?” She’s smart. I like how this scene goes from friendly to tense very fast, with everyone kind of testing the waters. Adrian tries to force the conversation, Liz opens with something vague yet pointed, and Diane speaks what’s previously been unspoken.
Liz says it’s not her intention to push Diane out. “I can’t change the color of my skin,” Diane replies. “I know,” Liz laughs. Audra’s delivery is fantastic on that line.
“Hey, I’m gonna fight for my partnership,” Diane says. “I know,” Liz says. The tone of this scene is so different from previous partnership drama on these shows and I’m excited about it. This is just a bunch of adults talking about business decisions with each other and treating each other as equals?? It's not backstabbing?? Or drama?? No one is hiding things?? It’s refreshing and I hope this plot stays like this. We’ve done so much partnership drama that I think drama that stems from a real, pressing question that has no easy answers and isn’t anyone’s fault is going to be much more fruitful for the show.
Adrian heads out—ah, I see now this scene is set in his empty office and this is why they are on the floor—and gets a nice last moment with Diane. And then they give him a last moment with Liz, which I knew they would but was still glad to see.
Liz asks if he knows what he’s doing—he says he’s not sure.
Adrian asks if Liz knows where she stands regarding Diane. “It’s going to be interesting,” Liz says. I don’t think she’s decided what she’s going to do yet.
It wouldn’t be an Adrian and Liz scene if Adrian didn’t have some unsolicited advice. “Diane’s a terrific lawyer, but this firm belongs to you.  Your dad built it. He did, Liz. Despite all his faults. You got to run this place the way you want. This is a black firm. And after today, the world needs black firms. You got me?” He tells Liz. He makes it seem like Liz gets the choice and then tells her what to do. She says, “I got it,” signaling she understood him but not that she necessarily agrees.
I cannot wait to see what Liz does next!!!!!!! About this but just in general!!!!! Without Adrian there giving her constant advice I feel like she can grow so much and the show will have to give her more to do!!! I think Adrian, for all his many wonderful qualities and all he brought to the show, can suck all the air out of a room with his charisma, and Liz usually ends up suffering as a result. She’s such a capable lawyer in her own right, but Adrian has a way of making it always seem like he’s right—even in arguments she wins. I’m excited to see Liz lead (or stumble at leadership; she is fairly new to management) without Adrian’s direct influence.
Liz walks Adrian out and it’s cute. They run into Marissa and Jay. “Everybody fun is leaving,” Marissa notes. Liz is minorly offended, but playfully. Heh.
Adrian asks Jay how he’s doing; Jay says he’s a long-hauler but he’s doing okay. I like that they included that moment in Adrian’s goodbye sequence. It’s a very little thing, but it underlines that Adrian cares about Jay.
Then Liz interrupts to note that Trump pardoned a lot of convicted and corrupt Republican officials....... including Julius.
Everyone celebrates, but especially Diane and Marissa. Diane lets out her wonderful laugh and then we, finally, get to the credits. Because now that the previouslies are over, it’s time for the real show.
The credits are absolutely delightful, btw. I was a little worried some of the kittens would blow up, though! Once I relaxed and realized what they were up to—literal puppies and kittens because Biden won—I couldn’t get enough of these credits. They work so well because they accurately capture the way I (and all of these characters, except maybe Julius and Kurt) feel about the election results, but it’s so exaggerated that you know the kittens and puppies aren’t a realistic representation of our new reality. They’re just too good to be true, but you may as well enjoy them for a minute. I’m sure we’ll be back to exploding vases next week.
What a great episode! My timeline nitpicks and whatever they’re trying to do with Jay aside, I was blown away by how well the writers managed to move on from season 4, tie up loose ends, and write out two main characters. And they did it all while making me revisit the events of 2020, a year I don’t think many of us want to spend much time thinking about! This episode was enjoyable, fun, emotional, and clever. I don’t know what to expect from the rest of the season, but I’m definitely excited about the show in a way I haven’t really been in quite some time.
This season’s naming convention seems to be titles that end with ... and only have the first word capitalized. I want to see more.
Season FIVE? There have already been as many TGF seasons as there were TGW seasons prior to Hitting the Fan?! Time flies.
Please writers: No topical episodes this year-- no pee tape, no Melania divorce, no Epstein. None of that business.
Sorry if I repeated myself here. I never proofread these things, and I wrote half of this on Saturday and half of it today (Wednesday) and the days in between were an absolute blur so I cannot remember if I said the same things about this episode twice.

KHR Jujutsu Kaisen AU Part 3
About the Varia & Bianchi & Dino.
Here’s part 1 with the Arco.
Here’s part 2 with the Vongola Tenth Gen and the Kokuyo gang.
Words: 2360
The Varia are all humans.
Squalo, Bel, Luss and Levi don’t have cursed energy.
They’re all in the “killing people” business because of no Tragic Backstory at all, but simply because they figured they’d be good at it, and they like it, and they’re just plain awful people.
They end up being cursed, and proceed to fight the Cursed Spirit (CS) sent their way, and kill it.
They kill all the others one too, and that’s how they learn about CS and Jujutsu Sorcerers (JS) and get used to fight against both.
They submit some of the CS to do their bidding through sheer fear only and by beating them hard (and sometimes just by being awful people enough the CS recognizes them as one of their own), because it’s much easier to fight CS with CS.
The CS don’t like this much. The humiliation of being turned into obedient pets is bad enough, but the fact it’s done by mere humans who don’t even have cursed energy, let alone aren’t JS?
The fact the JS treat them as one and the same doesn’t help (though it just happens to be they never interrupt them when they’re going after other CS lol.)
They become enemy number one. And they thrive and slaughter their way through the onslaught of attack.
They still are enemy number one after that, but the CS aren’t so eager to act on it anymore lol.
------
They learn about each other through the CS and JS talking about them and lumping them together during their fights.
They instantly hunt each other down because 1) one of them is more than enough, and 2) they sound like they’d be one hell of a fight.
They end up bonding together by very begrudgingly and reluctantly becoming Bel’s dads after repeated fights with each other.
Bel who’s only eight years old here because it makes it much funnier as far as I am concerned.
Little 8yo Bel just goes around wreaking havoc and very much killing both CS and JS all stabby stabby like, and then turns around and demands quiet for his nap. Or else.
So of course Squalo, Luss and Levi have to make sure he grows up to reach his full potential so they can kill him properly. And no one else.
Also they sometimes get overwhelmed having to fight off the CS community (?) single-handedly, but they’re not gonna admit that.
(They’re even less going to admit they just enjoy each other company and the very fucked up and bloody aesthetic they respectively have going on.)
------
Xanxus is a JS. Was a JS.
Nono saves him from a CS back when he was on the field, and adoptes him because of his already awoken cursed energy.
That’d only keep leading CS to him, and he can’t possibly just leave him by himself to die.
(And I’m just pulling fanlore out of my ass now uh? aqsdfghj)
Also he feels guilty to not have come in time to save his parents.
(Which yeah, it would have happened often, but idk, he’s at a particularly low point that time or something.)
Anyway, Nono adopts Xanxus, and it’s not that bad. Nono’s a bit of an absent father because of his work, but Daniela dotes on him a lot and it makes up for it.
So Xanxus grows loved and into a hell of a lot more put together teenager.
Of course he also grows to become a JS, and all goes downhill from there.
------
Because see, Xanxus is smart, and willing to do what is done and bears the consequences of it, so when he takes one look at the current situation, he decides they’re doing this all wrong.
There will obviously have no end to this if all they do is going after CS after they’re born.
And though his first thought isn’t to wipe out all the non-JS, he thinks strongly wiping out the ones being openly piece of shit of human beings would be a good start.
Nono immediately shuts him down, and actively pressures him to squash this thought to nothingness. Daniela doesn’t stop him, though she tries (and fail) to offer some comfort on the sideline.
Xanxus reigns himself in, until one dreadful mission when he just snaps. He knows better than to go back.
Nono sends Iemitsu after him without Daniela’s knowledge, and has him seal Xanxus’s cursed energy.
(When Nana gets pregnant not soon after, it's the last little push Iemitsu needs to retire.)
Daniela is furious, but before she can reach out to Xanxus and try to salvage whatever she can, Xanxus cut all ties and disappears.
Nono swipes all of this under the rug, and no new students of both the Tokyo and Kyoto school ever learns about Xanxus’s existence since then.
(And everyone else who knew him assumes he’s dead and sure as hell never brings him up to either Daniela or Nono.)
------
Viper starts their rogue career and spreads the word they’re looking for strong allies.
The CS seize the opportunity because of course they know of them (and their strength), and tell them they have to take care of this group of humans first to gain their trust.
Viper laughs when they learn about what these humans did to occur their ire, because how it is JS never tried to cause a civil war among CS yet?
(Mukuro sneezes somewhere ahjkfsd.)
They wouldn’t mind using the same method if only it was more reliable. And it’s not like they aren’t confident in their capabilities to submit them too, but always being prepared to a backstabbing sounds exhausting.
(But it also almost sounds worth it, the taste of CS disgusting, and they hate it, hate it, and what is even the point when they won’t ever be able to swallow enough them?)
Viper shrugs and says yes and gets to work.
------
They meet Bel first, and he wavers their convictions just the slightest bit.
(Because killing all non-JS would also mean the children, wouldn't it? And they’re pretty sure all of them won’t be as kind as being serial killers.)
Bel spends the whole fight trying to uncover their face when not trying to kill them, and, okay, he’s very cute. In a very child serial killer way, but still.
Viper decides it’s too early in their rogue career for them to kill children, so they don’t kill Bel.
Next thing they know Bel, Squalo, Luss and Levi show up in their apartment because of course Bel tattled.
They aren’t interested for shit in what they have to stay, but listen anyway once Viper beats them up to attention.
They’re even less interested to achieve world piece (or a world free of CS anyway), but the way to that promises a lot of fun and fights and spilled blood so sure, count them in.
Also Bel is attached already.
------
They stumble upon Xanxus finishing off the CS Viper wanted to recruit.
Yeah, you didn’t think you saw the last of him, did you? Let’s have a little flashback.
Iemitsu seals his cursed energy (which is very painful and scars him physically, and yeah he fought back to the very end but it changes little), and doesn’t find it in him to chase after him when he runs away.
(To bring him back to the Tokyo school, not kill him lol.)
Xanxus takes a year and some to recover, but the seal stunts his growth so he ages very slowly.
During that year he basically turns into Canon!Xanxus except worse because this time there was actually genuine love going on.
(I feel like there’d have to have been someone taking care of him during that time, but I can’t come up with anyone to save my life lol.)
He puts himself back together and doesn’t leave behind the JS business, cursed energy or not.
Except this time there’s quite the humans dying too along the CS. And he can’t bother helping or saving the JS he stumbles upon either.
He didn’t change his mind at all about what needs to be done with the CS, and decides if Nono doesn’t have the guts for it, someone else who has just needs to take over.
He thinks over a one-man coup, not because he’s a prideful, confident and competent stupid bastard (but also, yes he is aqsdfh), but because boy, that’s some trust issues he got as a parting gift.
------
That’s when he meets with the rest of the Varia before he can try anything.
He shoots Bel without meaning to (much like Viper he’s not that deep in the dark side yet lmao), and all hell break loose.
They fight each other until they’re half-dead and can’t move anymore, and only then they talk while bleeding out.
Viper & Cie straight up laugh at Xanxus face because what kind of suicide dumbass plan he has going on?
They laugh harder when they realize Xanxus is very serious, but oh, that’s a drive and will they can get behind.
And while Viper and him aren’t exactly on the same page, it’s such a relief for both of them to meet someone else who understands and is willing to act on it.
(Not that they’ll ever say that to each other.)
Thus the Varia is born.
------
Bianchi waltzes into the Tokyo school like she owns the place to be given a mission because she’s bored.
It’s a thing she sometimes does even if she has her own thing going own.
She walks to Gokudera like it’s no one’s business upon seeing him to catch up with him.
Gokudera is shell-shocked, and that close to start exorcising her.
“Onee-san, what the fuck? You ran away from home with your boyfriend and we never saw you again? We never heard of you again? I thought you were dead. We buried you, Onee-san, what the fuck?”
Bianchi goes “Oh yeah, that piece of shit? I killed him. I didn’t want to involve you into this mess.”
She never elaborates further. (But does apologize properly once Gokudera is ready to hear it.)
------
Here goes another flashback.
Bianchi is fourteen and in love and doesn’t think twice about running away from home with her boyfriend Romeo.
The dream turns quickly into a nightmare, and instead of breaking up with her like a normal person, Romeo curses her.
Bianchi kills both Romeo and the CS, and her first thought is: she has to keep her little brother out of whatever this mess is.
And so she never goes back home or stays in touch in any way at all.
She digs deeper, and learns about CS and JS, and figures out how to use her cursed technique.
It works through the food she cooks that ensnares CS long enough for her to kill them.
Somehow she ends up with some permanent CS she cooks for on the daily because they like her cooking, but they’re useful and strong so she considers it a fair deal.
(It’s the Simon.)
(Yes I’m just throwing around as many names as I can.)
(No I won’t elaborate this side plot further, it’s your problem now lmao.)
------
She’s not too sure about the JS‘s stand on the matter though.
It seems much more efficient to her on the long term to take care of the problem at its roots.
(Yeah I know, that’s three of them already lol, but isn’t it very likely there was more than one Geto Suguru in JJK?)
(I feel like the JS would have to take care of the ones that stray from their imposed right path every now and then.)
She’s more reasonable than the other two though lol.
She makes Romeo the first of many, and makes a business out of hunting down fuckers who think they just can go around cursing people (and only them).
Good thing they’re often rich bastards because she isn’t payed for that.
Though she still needs a steady paycheck, who knows whenever Gokudera will need help of any kind.
(Yes she keeps tabs on him all this time.)
That’s why she makes the JS agree she’s not too much their enemy they can’t give her missions.
Yeah she kills bastards posing as humans and lives with CS, big deal, who cares, she’s not leaving until they tell her how to earn some money.
(Lal loves her so much, idk, it just struck me right now, and I like it.)
------
Dino is a CS. Not your average CS either, he’s strong.
He’s still clumsy, except it takes the form of his cursed energy randomly hitting such a low he’s basically reduced as a human being for random amount of times.
On the other hand when it comes back it always reaches an all time peak he can’t reach normally.
And yeah it has nothing to do with clumsiness lol, whatever.
He meets Reborn during one of his Low Phase, and fails to recognize him as the threat he is.
He strikes a conversation with him like they’re the best of friends, already acting as his self-proclaimed older brother, because he never saw this CS before? He must be a newbie.
Reborn finds it so funny he goes along with it. Dino doesn’t realize his mistake when he gets back his cursed energy, because Reborn is a bastard and by then he was already concealing his cursed energy.
Reborn messes with him for weeks, and it’s the funniest fucking thing when Dino finally realizes.
He doesn’t have the common sense to stay as far away as he can from Reborn even then, which is good because common sense is boring and Reborn has no need for it.
Reborn adopts him, not as a friend or because he’s lonely or anything below him like that, of course not, but simply as an entertaining pet.
He trains him because he’s a walking waste of potential, and not because he’ll need the skills if he is to hang out around him, and Reborn would hate for him to die too soon, of course not.
Dino suffers. Reborn is happy. Everything is well.
------
Meanwhile, the different sides in this war between JS and CS keep blurring more and more.

Hi I'm that some person who asked about the Bat Family! Your post was really useful! Thank you so much! Do you reckon you could do another post of the others??? (Only if you want ❤️) And I saw that you wouldn't mind doing a Villain post? Cause I wouldn't mind either! Thank you again! You're amazing ❤️❤️
right ok sorry i didn’t answer this earlier lol but im off college now for christmas break so i have all the time.
First post! - The boys and Cass
Barabara Gordon: Babs my wife. ginger goddess, love her. Babs is the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, and the first batgirl. She was introduced in 1967 and just pretty much decided she wanted to kickass and made herself a little costume to join batman and robin i think???? anyway joker’s a jackass and decided to shoot her to get back at her dad so,,,,,, he shot her in the spine, paralysing her, so she retired as batgirl and became Oracle instead, the information broker and master hacker of the justice league, had a thing going on with dick for a while but DC likes changing their minds on whether or not their characters can be happy so who knows what’s going on there anymore. Part of the Birds of Prey, which she helped formed, and she’s not even in the new movie about it that i can see so fuck u DC :/ Age varies wildly but she’s normally around Dick’s age or older - to begin with she started off as his babysitter but DC doesn’t like sticking to their own timelines so- 👾/10
Stephanie Brown: My girl!!!! steph ok steph is amazing, basically her dad’s another jackass villain right but like not even a good one just a lame one, called Cluemaster (discount Riddler), and she was like ‘well fuck you dad im going to ruin ur whole day, every day’ and then she dressed up as a vigilante called ‘Spoiler’ to keep in with the family heritage and then just kept fucking with him until one day Tim, as Robin, came along and she chucked a brick at his head and from that blossomed a beautiful friendship. Anyway she was Spoiler for a little while longer and was dating Tim in that period, until Tim’s dad found out about everything and was like what the fuck so he had to retire for a bit and then she became the 4th Robin, until she died bc Black Mask is another Gotham Dickhead, but then DC was like ooooh maybe we shouldn’t have done that,,,, so they just pretended she died. Anyway Bruce dies and Cass, the current Batgirl, is like tfvygbuhjink so she gives Steph Batgirl and now DC keeps swapping between Spoiler and Batgirl for her. She was Dick and Damian’s Batgirl when Dick was Batman. Around Tim’s age, maybe 18?  🧇/10
Duke Thomas: Duke!! Duke’s new to the continuity so he’s not been in a whole lot, but this boy already needs a break oh my god. Duke’s the only vigilante meta Bruce allows in the city bc Duke is his son now and the JL are a bunch of bastards so there’s obvious logic behind it, Clark. Anyway he’s called the Signal and he can manipulate light when taking it in with his eyes, can look back and forward in time briefly using the light. Duke first met Bruce when him and his family rescued him when he was unconscious, which then got repayed when they got kidnapped by the Joker as he was planning to murder them to recreate Bruce’s parents’ death but Bruce got to them before he could kill them, but not before Joker drove his parents crazy with Joker toxin. He joined the We Are Robin movement and is currently trying to find his parents after he was placed in the foster system, and is currently training with Batman. Bruce can’t adopt him yet but I’m sure he’ll find a way. May have shadow powers rn, who knows. Around 15-16 i think?  💡/10
Kate Kane: Kate is Bruce’s cousin, who’s last name just happens to rhyme. She wears a wig in costume, and has short hair out of costume, which I don’t understand but anyway. She shares my love of the colour red and I wish to marry her also, and she goes by Batwoman. I love how creative this family is, and she was expelled from the military for being an out lesbian. After that she trained with her father, a military officer, to become Batwoman after seeing atman in action. She’s also Jewish! I don’t really follow her story that much so I’m not that knowledgeable on it I’m afraid, but she’s a sick character. Around Bruce’s age I think  ❤️/10
Jim Gordon: he’s so tired. he’s the head of the gotham police force and that’s really all you need to know to realise that this man needs a break. please dc. he’s been through so much. The show Gotham is really good if you want to know more about him in his earlier days before being promoted. he’s probably older than like all the gotham rogues so there he is, this old man watching these children causing havoc on his city and having to flick on a goddamn bat switch to get this overgrown furry, his annoying sidekicks, and his wonderful daughter to deal with them instead of you know, the police force he runs. An old man. 👮/10
i’ll try and do a villain one later if u still want me to lol!! im very biased towards all the rogues except mr booboo the clown

Title: First Day’s
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“We’re late, we’re late, we’re late,” you repeated in whispers as the line of cars didn’t cease.
It was a rush-hour morning in beautiful Austin Texas. The sky was blue and with no sign of clouds. The cars in front and behind you honked for the line to cut short. Everyone seemed to be in a hurry to get to their destinations but not you. The location your GPS was directing you wasn’t one you were excited about. Yes, you were late but it was not affecting you as much as it honestly should.
At the sound of babbling, your eyes went to the rear mirror. They met with JJ’s soft pigtails and her bouncing head at the rhythm of Ariana’s latest hit.
An incoming call took your eyes away from your daughter and back to the dash.
“Good morning, babe,” you spoke the second you touched the green icon on your screen.
You weren’t seeing his face but you imagined the wrinkles of his eyes showing as he smiled.
“Mornin’ babe,” Jensen said. “How’s it going?”
You let a deep sigh as you hold the steer with both of your hands.
“Traffic is…,” you stopped yourself from cursing out loud, “bad. I feel like I am in L.A. of how bad this traffic is.  And I honestly do not want to leave her there… It’s too early.”
“Babe, we talked about this,” Jensen said.
You rolled your eyes, “I know we’ve talked about this but- Jensen… The main reason I literally quit my job was to stay home and take care of JJ.”
“I know but it’s been a year,” Jensen said.
“Has it?” You looked at the screen with doubt.
It hasn’t felt like a year since you retired and weren’t shooting for a TV show.
“Babe, JJ needs to meet some friends,” your husband reply sounded logical but at that moment you were letting your heart rule over your head.
“She has Tom and Shep… and soon she’ll have another friend,” you said.
Jensen chuckled softly at the other end of the line. “I know you’re having trouble separating from her after all these months but she needs to learn how to communicate more and learn the colors and letters and just start a normal school journey.”
You sighed harshly again, slowly giving in to his logical thoughts.
“What if I homeschool her?” Jensen did not speak a word to your suggestion and you quickly interpret the silence on the line. “Am I being a crazy mom right now?”
“You’re not being crazy…,” Jensen said softly, “I mean, you’re being a little crazy BUT you’re just being a mom. It’s going to be okay, Y/N. I wish I could be there to experience her first day… I love you.”
A smile formed on your lips, you were having trouble separating from your daughter but Jensen was struggling with the guilt of not being a part of it.
“JJ, say hi to daddy!” You looked at her.
She instantly smiled, “Love you, daddy!”
“Love you too, little bird! Have fun at school!”
You couldn’t see his face but you knew there was a big bright smile on his face.
“Love you, babe,” you said, “I will facetime you when we’re there.”
“Alright, we’re on a break from filming so it should be good,” Jensen said. “See ya’.”
You continued to drive towards JJ’s new school. Thanks to your talk with Jensen your nerves had calmed down into the level of not being scared.
/ /
You carried JJ as you walked into the school. Her eyes instantly began to wander around the colorful walls. A smile formed on your lips noticing how her eyes sparkled with excitement.
There were parents all around the halls of the colorful school. You were grateful that you remembered the direction to JJ’s Pre-Head Start classroom from your latest visit to the school, if that weren’t the case, you would have been lost like a first-year student.
As you walked towards JJ’s classroom, you grabbed your cellphone from your pocket and called Jensen in Facetime. Who picked up the call in a matter of seconds.
“You’re there?” Jensen asked, looking down at the screen.
“Yep,” you said, realizing you were in front of the classroom.
“You’re ready little bird?” you asked your daughter.
JJ smiled big, showing her pearls and curiously looking into the colorful classroom. You looked down at the phone and found Jared and Misha had joined the Facetime call. A giggle escaped your insides and you put JJ down on her feet.
“Now you be good today and have lots of fun,” you said as you fixed her beige skirt and a pink shirt. “Okay, baby girl?”
She nodded with a smile, glancing down at the phone.
“Hi, Uncle Jared! Hi Uncle Misha!” She greeted them with excitement. “I’m going to school!”
They chuckled and smiled for JJ, “Yes sweetheart! You go have fun!”
“Baby, have fun and meet a lot of new friends!” Jensen added, “Love you.”
JJ blew her dad a kiss before giving you a kiss on the cheek and then continued to run into the room. Standing up straight you met with the Valery the teacher and smiled. Chatting about today being JJ’s first day at school.
“Well, I will be back at 3 PM. See you, JJ!” You told her and she waved before going back to play with two new classmates.
“Did she stay okay?” Jensen asked. You nodded, feeling the tears building up in your eyes. “Aw, babe! Don’t cry! Don’t be sad.”
You wiped off the tears, “I am not sad, I am happy - She is just so happy and already making friends. We - we don’t have a baby anymore.”
“She will always be our baby,” he said.
Once in the car, you took a moment to take deep breaths and get yourself together.
“Babe, I have to go back to shooting. Are you going to be okay?” Jensen asked.
You gave him a small smile, “Yeah. I’m meeting with Gen for lunch and shopping for the new baby. I’ll text you later.”
He blew a kiss and winked before ending the call. At that moment all the tears began to run wild, you didn’t know why you were crying so much but you couldn’t hold it back. You were happy for your kid, she was happy and ready to learn new things and start her education but at the same time, it was sad for you to let her go.
/ / /
It didn’t take you long to arrive at a nice Mexican restaurant in Downtown Austin. Gen was waiting for you by a table with guacamole and chips ready.
“I am so sorry for being so fucking late,” you said hugging your best friend.
Gen giggled, “It's no worries. I got here in like 20 minutes.”
You pouted as you sat down and looked at the guac, “That looks so good.”
“It is, that’s my second order,” Gen said with a big unapologetic smile.
With a giggle, you grabbed a chip and dipped in the guac. “This is amazing!!!”
“Told you,” she said caressing her pronounced belly.
You looked down at her seven months old belly. “You’re glowing.”
She smiled, “Thanks. You were right though, I thought having a girl would be a piece of cake after having two boys but girls are a handful in the belly.”
“They just don’t stay in a place,” you said. “JJ would move around my belly 24/7.”
“My girl too! Sometimes I can’t even sleep but… it’s worth it.” Gen said.
“It is,” you agreed.
You two continued to order and chatting as you munched on the chips and guac.
“You look like you've been crying,” Gen commented having a sip of her water.
“I was crying, leaving JJ at school left me so emotional,” you told her, feeling a bit of tears trying to push through. “How did you do it with Thomas and Shep?”
Gen chewed and shrugged with a small smirk, “I honestly cried my guts out too. They were so independent and ready to go and I just wasn’t but they were and I think that’s what is important. It's good for them to be ready for life and for new experiences, we just have to be here for when they need us.”
“You should write a book,” you said in awe. “It’s true… even if I am not ready, she is and that means we have done something right.”
“You have,” Gen said, “you and Jensen are the most amazing parents I’ve met and you will continue to be. Yeah,” she shrugged, “it's not always going to go the way you plan but at least it is going somewhere.”
You took a moment to take the words of your best friend. She was right, you needed to go with the flow and let your baby begin her own adventures, these ones starting with school.
“Do you want more?” Gen’s words brought you back from your thoughts.
You looked at her, with confusion in your eyes. “More what?”
“Kids,” she said, having a small sip of her juice.
Instantly you smiled, “Of course but I’m not planning it.”
Gen tilted her head and shrugged continuing to eat her meal. You also continued to eat yours. In between you two talked about her future plans for her blog and about future events that will be happening.
The rest of the evening you guys went baby clothes shopping for the future baby. Everything was so cute and it slightly gave you baby fever. You were excited for the new baby but the thought of having another kid hasn’t crossed your mind but you wondered how Jensen felt about it.
After the mall you picked JJ up in school and spent a couple more hours with Gen and her boys in the Padalecki household. Your daughter was very happy to spend more time with Tom and Shep. As you and Gen fixed dinner for them, they would play around the house.
“Hey Jules,” JJ greeted your dog as you guys walked into your house.
Instantly JJ began to play with Jules as you put everything in place.
“JJ, you need to get in the bath,” you said.
Your daughter turned and began to walk upstairs. It wasn’t always that she agreed in the first try to what you asked but it was rare times like this that were perfect. Your phone began to ring inside your bag.
“I’ll be there in a second, sweetie!” You shouted as you walked towards your bag that was in the kitchen’s island. Once in front of it, you grabbed it and smiled. It was Jensen.
“Heeeey!” He cheered through the screen.
You let out a chuckle and began your way towards JJ's bathroom.
“Hey, babe,” you smiled at the camera. “What’s up?”
“I’m at the apartment watching sports. It’s lonely here,” he said.
“Aw,” you walked into the bathroom and JJ was ready for the bath. “I’m prepping JJ’s bath,” with one twist the water began to fill the bathtub. “Say hi to daddy,” you turned the screen towards her.
“Daddy!” JJ exclaimed with excitement.
“Hey little bird!”
You could listen to your husband smile in his tone.
“How was your first day in school?” Jensen asked.
She got into the bathtub and began to play with the bubbles and toys. Meanwhile you sat and listened to their conversation about her first day. She told him about how much fun she had with her new friends. JJ liked the teacher and the classroom.
“What was your favorite thing?” You asked.
JJ took a moment to recap her day inside her mind before answering the question.
“Brownies! Mrs. Dixon had brownies.”
You chuckled, “of course that was your favorite thing.”
“Did you bring me brownies?” Jensen asked.
She shakes her head saying no, “Mommy and I will make brownies for you, daddy.”
“I love that,” he said with a smile. “Babe?”
“Yes,” you turned the phone towards you.
“I miss you,” his tone was low with a spice of sadness.
“I miss you too,” you replied, “can’t wait for Friday to be here already.”
He smiled, “I can’t wait either. Call me when JJ goes to bed?”
You smirked, “Will do. JJ say good night to daddy?”
“Good night daddy!” She shouted and followed with giggles. “Love you!”
“I love you too birdie,” Jensen said before hanging up.

SPN 15X07 Last Call: Notes
Summary (via IMDB): Dean goes off on his own to take on a case. Meanwhile, Castiel has an idea of how he can help Sam track down Chuck.
Written by:  Jeremy Adams
Directed by: Amyn Kaderali
Tagging: @thegalwhorants @emblue-sparks @metafest @verobatto-angelxhunter @evvvissticante @sudo-apt-get-destiel @wildligia @mishka-the-angel-of-saturday @stopmakingfaces @legendary-destiel @studio-hatter (peeps put in bold are those tumblr won’t let me tag. It’s tumblr, what else is new?)
Spoilers under the cut:
Episode notes:
-Texhoma, Texas
-Two girls leave the bar. The very drunk one loudly declares the sober one's her Best Friend.
-Angela, the sober one, gets nabbed in her car.
-Angela awakens, bound to a chair, her blood feeding some equally imprisoned creature.
-We cut to Dean, who's heavily drinking, and finds a case. The headline reads how Sally, Angela's friend, claims Angela got 'raptured'. Angela, Angel, raptured, Angela telling Sally to 'purge your sins'. Huh.
-Sam and Eileen, cooking and... eating bacon? Sam?? They're hungover?!?
-Sam points out how equally weird it is for Dean to turn down breakfast.
-Dean doesn't want to rain on Sam and Eileen's honeymoon parade.
-It's so nice to see Sam have someone else to talk to.
-Local cop thinks Angela left on her own. I'd have said she got kidnapped, but whatever, Denzel.
-Dean heads over to Swayze's, the bar Sally frequents.
-Ew, never give up your phone. I know Dean's probably got ten more on him [spoiler, he doesn't], but red flag, my man.
-Sounds like Lee's a Hunter, too. He owns Swayze's. Chances of Leo being the baddie suddenly increase.
-Ooh, Eileen, go for it!
-Ho, ho, ho, Sammy. Now the shoe's on the other foot! Cas is back, Sam sounds flustered, and I'm cackling.
- Cas: "Dead?" Eileen: "Yeah, I got better." I love you, Eileen.
-Cas: "There may be some of you inside of Chuck." Eileen: "Ew."
-So, Lee Webb’s from pre-S1.
-Look, I'm not trying to look at this with a Dean-and-Lee-were-a-thing lens, but I'll be damned if they don't have chemistry. In fact, I feel like I'm intruding on something private just by watching them catch-up.
-Lee got out of the Hunter's life, and doesn't regret it one bit.
-Cas is gonna try and probe Sam's bullet wound, and FUCK! Boy smacked into that wall!!
-Now Dean's not answering Cas' calls. [Lots of shoes being switched]
-Talk of triplets. Reminds me of Crowley and Deanmon. That, and the red shirt of bad decisions.
-Castiel calls up Sergei, the guy who screwed him over in S14.
-How's Lee not heard of the Winchesters and the multiple apocalypses they've been a part of. All Hunters, past and present, know of them. Strike two against Lee, who's now trying to convince Dean to take a break, leave the work to someone else. Is this just another way of giving up? Or, is it retirement-positive?
-Singing, bar fights, things never go this well for Dean, let alone Dean in this destructive state-of-mind.
-Sergei arrives at the bunker. He gets to work on Sam. Sergei says Sam's dying.
-Dean talks to Sally. She recounts the night Angela went missing.
-Dean: "Best friends don't just up and leave without saying goodbye." Lee: "Not unless they deserve it." LOL DRAG HIM LEE
-Lee jumping at the chance to work with Dean, after dismissing Sally's story; looking kinda disappointed when Dean wants to split up. Either Lee's the baddie, or he's sad he can't get in Dean's pants. Maybe both.
-Sergei explains how Sam's soul's attached to something, or someone, else. It's stretched too far.
-Dean's at the junkyard. He finds Angela, dead, and Lee's thE BADDIE, I FUCKING CALLED THAT SHIT. We can never have nice things on this show, when will you learn, Dean?
-Sergei's done his inevitable betrayal, says he won't save Sam unless Cas gives him what he wants, Eileen pins Sergei to the wall, threatening to kill him, WTF IS HAPPENING?!?
-Key to death? Castiel refuses Sergei's demands, and uses the niece as leverage. Sam wakes.
-There's a lot of in-jokes this episode.
-Dean wakes. He's hooked up to an IV like Sally was.
-Lee's gone full nihilistic. Joy. He feeds the creature, the creature gives him money and health.
-Dean breaks free. So does the creature.
-Dean just beheaded the MFer. There's a shoot-out. Both are terrible shots.
-It's a proper bar fight, now. Damn, Lee got stabbed.
-[Dean enters the bunker, telling Cas he finally got his message] BOY YOU FUCKIN' LATE TO THE PARTY
-Awkward silence, awkward distance.
-Sam: "I think we can beat God."
That was a LOT. What an episode. Great work Jeremy Adams, have fun blocking them haters.
And, I guess you could say Dean got caught in a... Webb of lies.
So, thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed, I think I’ve got a meta for this episode coming up, and if you want to see that, or my notes for upcoming episodes, let me know! I’ll tag you in the next one!

“Catch and Release”: an HYH recap
LOL I guess we need to discuss these new opening credits? It’s a real throwback, incorporating some of the more famous images from the first few years of the show, especially young Carrie (also I don’t remember the maze as much the last few years but it was there, and it features heavily this year as well).
Tumblr media
Some notable audio clips:
Saul: You had a relationship complicated enough to lie about. Carrie: Yeah, it’s complicated! I lost seven months of my life!
Saul: You will become the focus of an investigation that will define the rest of your life.
Saul: Please God, tell me you haven’t…
Tumblr media
(had to include this cap because I’m trash)
So… this should be fun.
The episode opens right where the last one left off. Carrie is visibly disturbed by the site of Yevgeny walking out of G’ulom’s office. She wastes no time asking G’ulom what the hell they were doing there. He plays coy and says they’re just businessmen but Carrie is doing her whole righteous indignation, “New Car Smell” thing. She says he’s got to take back his comments about the POWs. There’s a pointed exchange where Carrie says they’re prisoners of war and G’ulom counters that they’re terrorists and OH MY GOD how much heavier could the Brody parallels get?? Anyway, G’ulom is very unconvinced by Carrie’s argument, which basically boils down to “please?” She seethes the whole way back to the CIA station and says her first mean thing to Jenna this episode.
Later on the phone with Saul, she asks if he knew Yevgeny was there. “Of course not,” Saul says, though I’m not really sure I believe him. But apparently they can’t do shit about this as it was part of the terms of Carrie’s release. Which I guess they forgot to mention in her debrief.
Tumblr media
Elsewhere in Afghanistan, Max is talking to the DoD’s version of Siri. His Hot Marines give him all a hair tousle, which he hates (obviously), but which also seems to be some sign of good luck. The nice guy in the hat from the last episode notably does not touch his head, so I’m sure he’ll be dead in 2-4 episodes. Apparently the DoD Siri is better than the real thing because he manages to comb through some conversations of Haqqani talking to his son about ending the war. Saul says this is “black and white” evidence, because as we know everything that happens on this show is “black and white.” He’s convinced that if he could just talk to Haqqani, they could end this war together. This is one of Saul’s more insane plans but it will probably work because: Saul.
Tumblr media
Back at the CIA, Carrie’s gotten an “anonymous tip” which is basically a name written in large block letters inside an envelope. She manages to use a computer successfully and discovers the name is of a woman who was involved in a government corruption probe that got ~mysteriously~ shut down when it uncovered actual government corruption. How quaint! Anyway, then her husband was killed in a car bomb that was probably meant for her. So she’s justifiably pissed and probably has dirt on G’ulom that Carrie could use.
Carrie proposes to Mike Dunne an operation wherein they pretend to interview her for a job while Carrie breaks into her apartment to find said dirt. Mike Dunne brilliantly suggests Jenna for the operation since apparently Jenna set up a fake NGO with all her downtime on account of not being let outside. Their conversation goes something like this:
Carrie: Wait, just last week you told me Jenna is sort of an idiot. Mike: I said she was stuck in the starting gate. That is a horse racing analogy. Carrie: [raises eyebrows] Mike: We need her idiocy to add a little drama to this otherwise straightforward operation you’ve devised.
Later, Carrie prepares with Jenna:
Carrie: I’m phrasing this next bit as a rhetorical question with an obvious answer, because I don’t actually believe you know the right answer, because you are an idiot. Jenna: I promise I’m not an idiot. Did Mike say I was a fuck-up? Carrie: No, I said that. Jenna: Oh, right. Carrie: Are you not a fuck-up? Jenna: [blank stare]
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Tasneem is observing the transfer of Taliban POWs from Guantanamo, including one who is carted off on a stretcher. Also Saul is nowhere to be found. Between the ambulance and the “where the FUCK is Saul” of it all, this scene has several of the same elements of the iconique ending of “A Red Wheel Barrow.” Like Carrie then, Tasneem knows something is fishy.
Tumblr media
…and something definitely is! Saul’s not back in America like Tim Guinee says. He’s with Haqqani’s cousin, one of the released POWs, trying to convince him to hand deliver a letter to Haqqani in exchange for his immediate freedom.
Saul and Haqqani’s cousin arrive in Peshawar, where Saul hands over the letter to Haqqani, which he then reads via voiceover. It’s all very “A False Glimmer.” He pleads with Haqqani to meet with him, claiming “it’s only the men with guns who can make peace.” Which, I guess?
Tumblr media
The next day, Carrie’s operation is a go. Samira leaves right on time for the interview with Jenna’s fake NGO and Carrie and her crew easily break into her apartment. They don’t find much, until Carrie notices a burqa with a USB sewn into the hem. Incriminating evidence sewn into fabric that is discovered at the last moment is my FAVORITE device on this show.
Carrie is victorious in her search but Jenna royally fucks up the interview, because she’s an idiot (and a fuck-up, apparently), revealing that she knows about the “audit” Samira took part in. Jenna, you literally had one job! To her credit, Samira realizes what’s going on almost instantly and then takes a photo of Jenna. We have to stan!!
Samira doesn’t get away though. They abduct her and take her back to the CIA station, cuff her, and throw a hood over her head. Carrie is enraged, claiming they’ve just traumatized her all over again and now she definitely won’t talk. After a few seasons of getting a hood thrown over her head, Carrie sympathizes.
She does her best “here’s the lay of the land” with Samira and gets her to tell her the significance of the documents on the USB drive. Samira wants G’ulom arrested and says she can wait two more years, or even twenty, to take down G’ulom. Carrie knows the best they can do is just cut him at the knees by advancing the peace deal. In the end, she convinces her.
Tumblr media
Carrie calls Saul from a big abandoned building, location unknown, which is supposed to be an army base. Key phrase: “supposed to be.” Samira’s documents show evidence of an entirely fabricated Afghan Army battalion. That’s right, G’ulom is a scammer! He’s been funneling millions of dollars meant for the Army base into his own pocket for years. Incredulous, Carrie exclaims, “We’ve been enabling this motherfucker for 18 years! What is wrong with us?”
In Rawalpindi, Tasneem pays a visit to her retired stepfather Bunny (last seen in season four). He’s fallen asleep in his massive garden shooting squirrels with a pistol. The neighbors are complaining.
Tumblr media
Tasneem: If you took down the bird feeders, the squirrels would stop eating the bird seeds. Bunny: I prefer this. Also, that’s not fair to the birds. Tasneem: Is this a metaphor? [Later] Tasneem: Stepdad, I think Saul is up to no good. If he talks to Haqqani directly, there could be a real breakthrough. Bunny: Unacceptable. We must control everything. Tasneem: How far am I allowed to go then? Bunny: The Americans hate us and our God. Go as fucking far as you please. Tasneem: Coolio, it’s murder time.
Wearing a nice set of gold bar earrings, Carrie is back in G’ulom’s office, presenting him with a slew of incriminating evidence about his scam. He has two hours to walk back the statements before she shares the papers with his own government, who’d likely have him killed. Finally she has leverage, but G’ulom still manages to give a menacing speech about how peace will be terrible for everyone. Carrie doesn’t relent.
Poor Max has not gotten any alone time at the Army base in Afghanistan, but he has realized that the ISI definitely know that Saul is in Peshawar. Apparently the Taliban does as well. Twist of twists, the ISI aren’t preparing to hit him, they’re preparing to hit Haqqani. Saul yells at the Taliban’s convoy to stop but it’s too late. Amid the panic, Saul is abducted again. I honestly cannot. How many times has this been? This was not the Homeland Greatest Hits I had in mind.
Later, Carrie is stomping her way through the streets of Kabul. She ends up at a bar with the rest of the crew. She says something encouraging to Jenna and orders a “soda water,” both of which are not things I would have expected Carrie to do. Mike Dunne is like, Carrie when the fuck are you gonna leave? Carrie does a cute lil’ shrug and randomly asks where the bathroom is.
That’s right, we needed Carrie alone and somewhat lost because YEVGENY IS BACK. Somehow he looks even hotter than last week. Apparently he gave the anonymous tip, which makes no sense.
Tumblr media
Yevgeny: I thought you were gonna thank me. *wink wink* Carrie: I am so confused. Yevgeny: Who else would have done something so nice for you? *wink wink* Carrie: I am maximum confused. Yevgeny: Don’t play dumb. *wink wink* Carrie: I am more confused now than that time I saw a screensaver. Yevgeny: Hey, maybe we could go to Banana Joe’s together? *wink wink* [fades into darkness]
The episode closes somewhat awesomely with Saul, still blindfolded, entering a cement fortress. The blindfold comes off, his beard looks raggedy. I’ve seen this all before. Haqqani walks in. He’s not dead. Saul’s thanking the heavens, and then Haqqani smacks him across the face with a rifle. Cut to black. *chef’s kiss*

Battle of the Blades: Epi 1 Write-Up (Live Taping)
Last Thursday, I got the opportunity to attend the Battle of the Blades live filming with Danielle, her mom, and my mom. We had dinner at this great German restaurant in town and had amazing Schnitzel. [[Danielle wants you to know that Schnitzel and Spaetzle is the love of her life]]. Since Danielle was shooting the event, we got to the venue quite early around 5:45pm. Danielle went straight in while the rest of us stayed outside for a bit. We saw Mike Marinaro and Alma Moir outside so we chatted with them for a while (Danielle's Mom knows them more personally).
After that we headed into the venue and local skating clubs and hockey teams had some skaters paired together for a little show. These were the skaters that Scott had worked with a few weeks prior. They were all very cute, each pair containing a figure skater and a hockey player. Tessa, Scott, and Colby (the 3rd judge, who used to be a contest) came out to watch the little kids perform. Tessa looked like an ABSOLUTE DIVA in the black jumpsuit and the bangs and updo. I LOVED IT! My mom didn't even recognize Tessa with her hair and outfit. I pointed them out and my mom said "That's Scott but that doesn't look like Tessa". At that time they were in shoes so I had no clue they were going to wear skates. From the first time they sat in the judges chairs, you could sort of tell that Scott was uncomfortable in the tall chairs. He like sat down and then got up and sat on the edge with his feet on the ground. They left right after the performances and didn't come back till being announced at the beginning of the show.
The venue was nicely set up with the judges on one short end of the rink and the skaters entering from the other. They had giant screens on both sides of the rink and the Battle of the Blades signs on both sides with lots of sparkles. Just before the taping started they had all of us move down as close as possible to fill in all the empty seats. That worked out great for us as we ended up being 3rd row! So close that it was a better shooting location for Danielle that she came to sit with us.
When they introduced Tessa and Scott there was an arena wide standing ovation! I was surprised they were in skates while being real clothes, it was kind of funny LOL. It was so nice to see such a warm response to them and have the whole crowd on their feet. Since everyone was talking about the hand grab thing, it was one of those reaching for her hand without looking and landing on her wrist. If you watch my video again they turn to go back to their seats and hold hands properly, so calm down. Right after they launched into their retirement spiel. I have a video of it that I posted on my Youtube, linked here (x). Sorry about them being in portrait, you'd think by now I'd remember to make them landscape but it was a fast record it and I forget!
For the show itself, I was super excited to see Natalie Spooner because I'm a fan of hers. She was really great with Andrew, I thought her posture was so great for a hockey player. For sure Shelley and Kaitlyn were my biggest surprise. Danielle and I were SCREAMING when they started doing the polka-- how adventurous for a first outing! The crowd had a great atmosphere and was reacting well to everything it was a nice crowd to be in. The costumes for the most part were really well done-- kudos to Matthieu of course! I thought that the judges might change out of their skates after the intro but they were in them the whole time. Kurt was the first one to jump up and show a skater an example of what they’d like to see from them and then it made sense to why the judges were so far from where the skaters were standing to get their scores! The tv crew wanted the judges to stand up and show the skills as needed and left them ice space to do that. Danielle and I got the vibes really quickly that Tessa and Scott were playing good cop bad cop on judging. Tessa being positive and Scott giving those coaches corrections, it seemed to be working well. I wonder if they’ll switch that up next time.
During commercial breaks, all the judges would get make-up and hair touch-ups! Kelly was there fixing Tessa's hair as well as the make-up person. Scott was always quick to jump out of his seat (which he had been fidgeting in the whole time) and skate around or talk to Kurt. Tessa would also chat with Colby some of the time. Other times, Scott would stand in front of Tessa and they would chat. It was nice to see them looking at each other when dancing in their seats to the music, laughing, and whispering with each other as usual (typical VM dynamic!).
Since Tessa and Scott represented one score, they would whisper to each other during the performances. Tessa often holding up her cue card for them to look at and then they would quickly decide on a score. I know there was lots of talk about Scott talking over Tessa but I have to mention that the judges chairs were pretty far apart and there was a mic delay. Tessa and Scott were also seated side by side where in interviews they can usually sit on angles so they can anticipate when they finish speaking. I think it was just honest mistakes when they overlapped.
At the end of the night, we ran into Cara and Alma and had another quick chat with them. And just before leaving in the parking lot we saw QUEEN KIRSTEN MOORE-TOWERS!! She always has such great outfits and is SO SWEET-- she remembered me and HUGGED me (I DIE). After chatting with her for a bit, we called it a night. We had a really good time! We were planning on going to the finale but when we went to get tickets they were ALL SOLD OUT. So as of rn, I don't have ticket but hopefully they'll release more. I'm looking forward to watching the season on tv!
(This was a second time I wrote this, bc it got deleted so if I remember anything I add it after).

Abramazing Spider-Man #2 Thoughts
Tumblr media
More crap.
Let’s deal out some of the minor positives I have.
The art continues to be nice.
Having a Spider-Man get into heroing via the influence of their love interest is something different for whatever that is worth.
Ben burning the suit only to then immediately regret it was a funny subersion of expectations. It made me chuckle.
The only thing I noted as derivative of older Spider-Man stories was the cliché burning of the costume in the backyard.
The recap page did a good job of catching up new readers. Yes. I’m praising the recap page. Let that sink in.
Okey dokey that’s enough now.
Whilst last issue initially made me vaguely interested before chatter surrounding me converted me into hating it, this issue was more bland and going by through the motions.
The thing is last issue so utterly tainted my (and everyone else’s) experience that I am struggling to look past the fact that this is obviously amateurish and actively deceptive of the readers.
That’s perhaps made me resentful to most of the things in the story, I know I’m probably not being fair and balanced in my approach to it.
But all I can say here is how I felt about the book and how I felt about it was supremely unimpressed.
I want to address some tiny points before diving deeper. So Peter is a super scientist but somehow he couldn’t find or design a camera that would work better for him as a one handed man?
Benny clearly never used the webshooters before and yet he’s swinging around with a degree of experience that doesn’t make sense when it’s literally his first try. Hell he’s even carrying someone while he’s at it.
I also don’t get the passage of time or the physics of the web swinging scene. So they are standing on the ground, he shoots a webline, smash cut to a splash page of them swinging, with the dialogue clearly conveying the latter clearly follows the former. Comic books are sequential storytelling. One scene or sequence should lead into another, in particular when conveying movement. Ron Frenz was a master at this, rarely if ever, were you questioning how characters moved from Position A to Position B. I don’t know if this was Pichelli’s fault or if it was Henry Abrams just wanting a cool shot but it sucks.
The recap page claims that Ben accidentally hit the bully from last issue harder than he meant to, and maybe I’m just forgetting something, but I did not get that impression. So good job telling me stuff about last issue that the story itself failed to convey.
Finally Faye Ito/Ito Faye/Asian Michelle Jones/Benny’s Manic Pixie Dream Girl stereotype collides face first mid swing into a billboard. But she’s fine. She’s not even scratched or banged up? What? Would that have made her less pretty or something? Also I guess that scene was a callback to Spider-Man 2002, but I’m not griping about that.
Let’s move on to the more significant problems with the comic book.
I’m not the first person to point this out, but I think it bears repeating, this comic book feels like a movie, and I mean that in a bad way.
The panelling feels like a fill storyboard more than a comic book, it’s not making great use of the things you can do with the medium or the space provided. You want a great example of the opposite check out the art in Absolute Carnage: Seperation Anxiety #1.
Tied in with this criticism is the idea that the Abrams (well Abrams the younger) have developed this story like a film.
I am going to slightly disagree here. I think it’s more as though they’ve designed this as a prestige TV mini-series with a Hollywood film budget. I say this because the way this issue starts and finishes feels like a Netflix episode more than the second half hour of a movie.
Part and parcel of that was the obnoxiously incremental advancement of the Cadaverous and Peter subplots. Cadaverous spewed random cryptic nonsense that existed more to remind us he existed than actually accomplish anything.
Peter’s job overseas...again, why is he not just a scientist if he’s retired altogether? He’s not even a science photographer, he’s basically a grizzled Jimmy Olsen or something. Peter became a shutterbug because it was convenient, he didn’t really want to do that long term as a career, his ambitions lay in science, a job that if anything would be far more accommodating for his disability than going to dangerous parts of the Middle East to awkwardly snap photos. It’s not even like being a scientist would preclude him from getting away from NYC or his son if that’s the idea. He could be travelling for conventions and conferences. I also don’t get why we needed as many scenes of Peter overseas as we got nor why it bothered to linger on the tragedies experienced by the people there. It wasn’t like it was a lot but it’s panel time that could be put to better use. At best it felt like a pretentious attempt at being deep, at worst it might be set up that plays into the story later. The thing is the Middle East doesn’t really make for great Spider-Man stories, nor indeed most international conflicts.
Getting into the meat of this issue...Faye...fuckign Faye.
She’s a cliché.
In fact lots of stuff in this story is cliché, it’s just that unlike last issue they aren’t cliches specifically drawing from older Spider-Man stories, they’re more general clichés.
The thing that really annoyed me with Faye and Benny’s interactions was that she was obviously being played up as a kind of remixed Black Cat/Catwoman due to her costume. Like she’s supposed to be a bad influence on him or something, exemplified by the fact that she shoots down and subverts Peter’s famous motto about responsibility. It didn’t even make sense. Having responsibility gives you power...what?????????????????????????
Benny himself continues to be bland and boring as a protagonist to follow. Like so much of this story thus far he feels like a typical film or TV protagonist having issues with their Dad and in that regard is just going through the motions. I dunno if I’d call him passive per se, but he’s not too far removed from being passive that’s for sure; but not as passive as Aunt May.
I mean blaming his Dad for abandoning being Spider-Man and his mother’s death. I practically predicted the dialogue from the moment that scene started up and whilst okay it’s never been done in Spider-Man before strictly speaking it’s so generic to countless other forms of media, including other superhero comic books, it’s just banal.
His belief that he is a freak is also questionable, specifically it brings into question the world building of this universe. Were this a world where only Spider-Man existed as a hero (more or less like the Raimi movies) then that’d be fine. Even in a world of mutants that’d also be fine, though you’d imagine mutant acceptance would’ve 10+ years removed from when Peter was active. But so far this version of the Marvel Universe feels very generalized in regards to the MCU.
It’s like the Spider-Man and MJ of this universe were generalized versions of the Raimi films iteration, jammed into a generalized version of the MCU where mutants do not exist and the 2012 Avengers are THE Avengers. But if that’s the world Benny grew up in, why would being born with powers make him jump to ‘freak’? He’s just a superhero, that’s cool in a world where there is no mutant stigma and where the Avengers are revered fallen heroes.*
My final criticism is in regards to the final sequence. It was just weird.
Benny and the civilian he was rescuing had dialogue that was far more casual than the situation demanded. Like dude, you’ve been blown up, buried alive and rescued by a bona fide superhero who’s not been seen in 10 years and now killer robots are surrounding you. Who is that chill in such a scenario? Who goes through all that and at the end basically says ‘lol classic Spidey lol’?????
The civilian also had odd dialogue where it was as though Henry was throwing shade at the premise of the book itself, about how lame an older, disabled Spider-Man with a beard and a kid would be.
But like Henry...YOU came up with that? If you think it’s lame why are you making 5 issues worth of it????????????????
My final point is that whilst the artwork is praiseworthy, it’s also far from Pichelli’s best work. It’s in fact noticeably lower quality than the work she was producing on the 2016 Miles Morales titles or even the debut of that character.
My recommendation?
Don’t read this. If you are truly curious wait for the trade to come out and then buy it as cheaply as possible?
As for me, I’m sticking this out to the end but I’m also going to be saving my money and reducing my order to just one copy and have cancelled my pre-order of the trade.
Ever since Spencer showed up I’ve made a concerted effort to support the spider titles I like and want to see more of (that’s code for the titles featuring MJ) and since last issue deceived me and this issue failed to impress, I don’t want more work like this from Marvel in the future.
*Also I’m going to be pissed if it turns out a chucklefuck like Cadaverous wound up taking out the Avengers somehow. Like really, this clown did them in?

Riverdale Liveblogs 3x07 - 3x13
Instead of making you all suffer through six separate liveblogs as I was catching up, have them all in on post!
3x07, “The Man in Black”
Remember when Jughead was the biggest woobie ever with a bunch of sad shit happening to him. Fun times. Honestly, Jughead’s just really taking advantage of finally being on the roadtrip he was denied
Justice for Jingle Jangle. Why did we need a new drug? Or I’d be fine with it complementing the other but NOooOooOOOO. It’s trying to shove JJ out of the spotlight!
Elvis’ granddaughter could’ve just drugged the eggs but instead she chose to nearly give Archie a concussion. Hiram might chop her head off if his Archiekins gets permanent brain damage
Let Archie kill a man!! Jughead got to skin someone who was fucking up his life. Why can’t he let Archie take his shot!? I can’t hear you about consequences
Your business is failing because trading away the final piece of the Soutshide to open a vanity project in the form of a dry speakeasy was not a great idea. Also, gamers can give you business. I’ve seen it!
The show can make Veronica say all these supposedly empowering lines, but I’m never going to forget that she supported a for-profit prison
MAYBE MY DAD’S NOT SO BAD!!?!?
Tumblr media
This voiceover was completely unnecessary. Honestly, it’s sort of a slap in the face to Lili’s acting as if they didn’t think she could convey certain things without some hand holding
I’ve seen movies. They make you swallow that shit on the spot
So many negative thoughts being awkwardly confirmed
Honestly, this is what happens when you keep exploiting the place for abuses to help your investigations but never fucking shut it down
3x08, “Outbreak”
Does Moose need drugs to get it up? He said Midge liked to get wild, but methinks he liked it of his own volition as well. And just what I wanted. Shadowy makeouts while high on drug laced childhood candy
Kevin needs to find out who put a curse on his dick. ANOTHER hookup interrupted by bodies in danger
I don’t know why a group of high school boys acting like typical jackass high school boys with loud laughing is cause for thinking they’re all high.
“good people like Archie”
Tumblr media
Gladys being a Jarchie shipper is pure. I will not stand for this no homoing
Wait, Cheryl did actually get to be Student Body President? I thought they were just going to let that circle the drain and disappear
MY FAVORITE INCOMPETENT EDUCATIONAL ADMINISTRATOR
THE PRISON WAS A FUCKING COVER?!?!? So all of S2 was just…oh my fucking god, I’m going to do drown myself
“good looking shortsatck” Love it. Goddamn, I love Gladys
Do they know that the way they write Hiram and Veronica feels like it’s been dipped in ten layers of incest? He talks to her like she’s the mistress he wants to bed
The affection the Jones women have for Archie is cute
The Gargoyle King being a hallucination is the most disappointing thing
TABLETOP RPGS ARE NOT FUCKING BORN OF MADNESS. Ugh, my inner geek is angry with rage
Oh, now you care about the kids in conversion therapy
So I guess they didn’t go to Toledo for Christmas??
Lili should get a raise for this Griffin Queen shit
I’m more emotional than I would usually be over these Fred scenes given Luke Perry’s recent condition
PROTECT THAT FUCKING DOG WITH YOUR FUCKING LIFE!! THROW YOURSELF IN FRONT OF A BEAR
I missed alcoholic Hermione. And lmao this Watchmen realness
Tumblr media
I love Silent!Kevin getting nothing to say in that office! Just fucking great
we need to know more about this fucking Governor. Racist piece of shit who gets upset about vandalized statues of genocidal war criminals, AND he’s under Hiram’s thumb.
3x09, “No Exit”
Will someone get bit by a monkey? I can only hope
Oh fuck off with the Star Wars reference. IT DOESN’T FIT
Stealing from the rich to give to the rich. How very one percenter. And Toni, all your friends are living in tents by the river
KEVIN. WHY THE FUCK DO YOU ALWAYS JOIN THE WORST GROUPS
While the implication of Jughead sleeping over is nice, what the fuck was the point of last episode’s cliffhanger. This timeline makes no sense
I’M GETTING FIREWATCH VIBES
Tumblr media
They’re so fucking low budget that they couldn’t even show the bear, LMAO
I forgot what Fangs sounded like. Didn’t FP retire? ARE THERE EVEN ANY ADULTS LEFT IN THIS FUCKING JOKE OF A GANG. But Damn, Fangs is good at crying. So pretty
Aww, I actually missed the hammy ass warden
Every time Joaquin’s name is mentioned, another dagger in my heart
The fact that the sisters have been fake nuns this whole time is just…what the fuck. AND THE FUCKING SOCIAL WORKER KNEW AND JUST LET THEM KEEP OPERATING!?!? LET THIS WHOLE FUCKING TOWN FALL INTO A HELLMOUTH
Remember when Jughead was outraged about the Serpents being paid security at the Pickens festival thing? Time is a flat circle
CHERYL, WHY DON’T YOU JSUT KILL HIRAM THEN
“SAVED”!??! REALLY NANA ROSE!?! IS THAT WHAT YOU CALL THE CHILD GROOMING YOU DID!? And uh, Fred and Sierra should know about that sordid piece of Penelope’s past
Damn, Veggie is hot as fuck
You know who else could’ve gone undercover for the Serpents to infiltrate the Gargoyle gang?!????? I HATE YOU FOREVER, RAS. ANOTHER AU FOR THE DRAWER
Tumblr media
3x10, “The Stranger”
LMAO that they tried to make us think Archie died
Being attacked by a bear in Canada means not having to suffer through crippling debt because of the hospital bill for the rest of your life
Sidenote, but I really thought the painting of Veronica would have a bug or something. The fact that she just kept the painting instead of burning it says something
Oh so the core four are THOSE type of friends
Betty’s money >> those kids
Claudius just doesn’t want to do actual work
They let a kid pass the first grade when he couldn’t read? So the educational system has always been rather shit
Hey there, Silent!Kevin! Just sitting silently with your slowly developing biceps
Does Reggie know what PTSD is
I spy with my little eyes Kevin in the corner putting his PE clothes away! Once again robbed of a shirtless scene
FUCKING TALL BOY!?!? Lol, this is really good for my drawer fic actually. Keep sounding like a spiteful man! It’s semi feeding me
Wow, they really crammed in two Varchie sex scenes
Hiram deserved this and every agonizing second of pain he felt
Raw milk, huh? Yeah, that’s all you need to bait Kevin into this cult
Bye Claudius, no one will miss you
I want Hermione/FP to fuck
Jughead throwing a party to make things better is the biggest twist this series has ever done
Archie the alcoholic, eh. If this lasts more than one episode, that’d sure be something
3x11, “The Red Dahlia”
This is the noir episode, isn’t it. I’m…really bad with noir so an episode from THIS team is going to be…very trying
Awww, FP mentioning Joaquin is an extra pang. I wanted to know more about their relationship
I’d love to see the notes on this draft when Jughead tries submitting it to a publisher. Unless he goes the self pub route
Who even runs the newspaper now?
Betty, you’re like the last person to talk about black and white morality
Archie sounds like the protagonist of Office Space at the end when he finds his calling in construction
ELIO HAS SPOKEN MORE THAN MELODY EVER DID. EAT SHIT, RAS
I still need Jughead and Veronica arguing about classic cinema
I wonder where Penelope learned those crocodile tears, Nana. Like I never need a scene of her criticizing her ADOPTED DAUGHTER again
Cheryl is pretty forgiving of the uncle who sort of helped with her institutionalization
Have these boys never watched an episode of Breaking Bad? Put that body in a barrel
Tumblr media
So has Veronica had a change of heart about Daddykins? I’m so confused
SMITHERS!?!? YOu’RE STILL ALIVE!? Protect this man
Remember when Betty was a camgirl for ten seconds and watched all of her fake brother’s porn videos
Josie’s voice is pure butter, and the show needs to stop pretending that we want to hear anyone else sing
Why doesn’t Toni have a job at Veronica’s dry speakeasy? She used to be an actual bartender!
“Kevin’s dad boxes at the gym” being a line from Josie is the most beautiful line in this episode
Well at least they explained the seizures.
YYYAAAAAASSSS, KELLY RIPPA!!
What is even the point of Minetta having faked his death just to be Hermione’s kept man
Well, damn, I really didn’t see this FP reveal coming. I wish he was the sheriff Hermione was fucking. And given all the things Jughead used to say and aim at Keller, it’s interesting to see him have to deal with his dad being somewhat in Hermione’s pocket
PULL THE FUCKING TRIGGER, ARCHIE
Tumblr media
Lmao at this Bad Boys line. I see you, synergy
Honestly, how dare Archie shoot the person who was going to kill Hiram. I guess that’s one way to bury the Archie/Hiram grudge
Hermione’s trigger finger is life goals
3x12, “Bizarrodale”
So first off, fuck that title and everything it implies.
Second, this is the episode where I’m supposed to finally get fed, eh? FINGERS CROSSED
I forgot what Kevin sounded like after not talking for four episodes
WHEN CAN WE MEET KEVIN’S MOM!?!? I HAVE MANY FANCASTS
Veronica watches Netflix confirmed, and yet I guess she just scrolls past Orange is the New Black every time it’s recommended to her
Why are Kevoose makeouts always in shadow? Is it to disguise the fact that when they makeout it’s with their lips sealed shut
The actor who plays Major Mason followed me back on my burner instagram
Awww, Sweet Pea is a relationship guy with a gooey little heart!
Sierra pegs Tom confirmed. Love these two kinky fuckers
The way Tom says “Gargoyle King” goes straight to my nether regions
So does Britta have a kink for people outing others against their will? I swear this is a plot point in Ship It too
I feel like these issues are something they should’ve talked about way more. Making Moose’s coming out be an ultimatum is pretty gross
How DARE they not let us hear Josie sing?!??! Ohhhh, if we’d heard Josie sing then we would sent death threats to the fake Juilliard board. I never want to hear Josie’s teary little voice again because it hurts my feelings
Lmao, this is the second time a parent has been judgmental of how the Lodges involve Veronica in their business
Remember that time Moose and Cheryl made out? I’m forever traumatized by that
Hiram and Hermione strolling in like a fucked up Gomez and Morticia
I’m sure that Dilton would approve of his friend from another lifetime using his secret bunker to pop his cherry. But only Moose. Yes, I ship comics Dilton/Moose
Oh, HeeEYEEEEEEE, IT’S LIKE A BUNCH OF MY FIC DREAMS COME TO LIFE. Wow, I finally got pandered to. Kevin being in dagner is like…the basis of the majority of my drawer fics
I’M FUCKING PSYCHIC X2!!!! Well huh, this puts that earlier diner scene in a new light
Yesss, please keep calling him Tommy and talking about how Kevin looks like your old friend with that sad, wistful tone. Please feed my fic bunnies
Christ, Ashleigh has such a fucking amazing voice. I can actually bear KJ’s singing
Moose having to leave makes sense. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU WATCH CODY”S SHOW ON NETFLIX TO MAKE THIS WORTH IT
I never want to see Kevin cry again. Fucking Maramaduke
Gladys can step on me, and I’d apologize
3x13, REQUEIM FOR A WELTERWEIGHT
I’M FINALLY ALL FUCKING CAUGHT UP
I don’t think that bacon is fully cooked
So Veronica just decided to not move back out because the path of least resistance?? And she’s back in her Daddy’s clutches because....he got shot???
The Serpent with the awesome dreads is still there! Can he be an actual character with a name? He deserves it
Between last episode and this one, I am being fucking BLESSED with Daddy Keller content.
VERONICA IS a FUCKING REPUBLICAN CONFIRMED. I guess we all know who scrolled right past 13th on Netflix!
They’re really trying to sweep up their awkward plot mistakes from last season, eh
I need a flashback of young Alice in this ugly fucking wedding dress
This is some Rocky and Mickey shit. Hopefully Keller doesn’t have a heart attack while confronting Mr. T
YES, GLADYS!!! CALL OUT THAT LEADERSHIP!
San Junipero water, huh.
Why is Archosie so perfect
Ehhhh, the last time they talked was eight episodes ago. Will this scene be about how Kevin’s recovering post-Moose?? Of course not. My hopes for investigative Kevin are once again yanked away. Though of course remember that time she got him to catfish a murderer without telling him that Chic had killed someone?? Fun times
“cute gay farmies”
Tumblr media
Veronica is the opposite intimidating ESPECIALLY in the face of Gladys who we all know has actually fucked up a bitch
The monstrous Freeform ate Malachai, eh. Ghoulie jackets are still the best jackets
I’ve never watched Apocalypse Now so this scene is wasted on me
THUNDERDOME!!?!?
Tumblr media
Keller looks like he gives good hugs
How the fuck did Jason learn about The Farm?
This is Polly’s revenge for being sent to the Sisters
It’s awkward how Choni just sort of disappeared from the episode
Damn, Archosie has everything going on
Hermione, you should’ve just killed Hiram when you had the chance
PROTECTIVE BIG BROTHER JUGHEAD!
Gladys doling out gang advice is just everything I wanted from her

Aurix update
There won’t be one of these for a while, since our schedules ain’t workin’ out until next month, buuuut:
Last time: Ronin wanted to get some Thieves’ Tools, and Aurix brought him to some shady-ass Drow gang to hook him up. He didn’t really wanna pay 50g for a set of tools, so instead offered to do A Favour. They asked him to get rid of an elf who was a High Priest of Savras; he agreed. Aurix asked him if 50g was a price he was okay with paying for blood on his hands, and promised to back him up in however he approached this job.
THIS TIME: Aurix made some very excellent use of her new spell, Flock of Familiars, in scouting out the Temple of Savras. We not only found out the high priests would be meeting tonight (one of which was our assassination target) so everyone could see them vote on a change in tenets, but we spotted a young girl that may be the child who was taken away by the temple. (I’m a little fuzzy on what THAT’S about, since it’s a plotline that was going on before I joined the campaign.)
Von (the bard) polymorphed Ronin (the samurai) into a spider, Aurix tucked him into her hood, and one Mask of Many Faces disguise later, we sneak into the temple for that big meeting. We see the girl is being kept behind a High Priest by the name of Shadowstone, who’s got a fancy tattoo on his arm marking him as a member of the dwarven shady-ass mafia. Ronin also picks up that our assassination target glances at Shadowstone with utter fear before voting the same way that he does. It’s pretty clear that Shadowstone is the dude behind the sketchy business, and it’s equally clear that the drow gang who Ronin promised to Do An Assassinate for probably picked this dude because he’s obviously in Shadowstone’s pocket.
The Polymorph is getting close to running out, so disguised-as-a-random-Savras-cleric Aurix tries to scootch out of the meeting all “bathroom break s’cuse me.” She manages to deceive all the high priests except one, ducks out, and hides away in an empty room so Ronin can be a half-orc again and not a spider. Knowing their cover may be blown, Ronin tries to suggest pulling out and coming back with the rest of the party. Aurix is wary, knowing that much of the party won’t be super on board with “murder a church guy” or really cut out for Stealth, and fearing that the suspicions they raised may lead to tighter security. She suggests instead that they do a “to hide a tree, use a forest” approach and try to slip in with all the leaving clerics when the meeting ends, and maybe try to follow their mark that way.
No luck seeing him among the people who go by, though, so Ronin figures that we should just cut our losses and leave. He gets caught on the way out, though, and we get taken to talk to the High Priestess who wasn’t fooled by Aurix’s “lol brb bathroom” bit. She talks about Shadowstone’s shadiness, a bit about our mark’s past, and how he’s one of Shadowstone’s many puppets. Aurix suggests that they, as ardent adherents to the tenets of Savras and not this skewed version Shadowstone is trying to push, try talking to the mark in private. Somehow, this works, and the priestess arranges for them to talk.
At this point, Aurix is READY THE FUCK TO HIT. Hexblade’s Curse, poised to strike, waiting for Ronin to give the signal. He talks to this drow High Priest a bit. The guy doesn’t really know anything useful at all about Shadowstone, but he quickly realizes that we were sent by the drow gang to kill him, and starts sobbing and weeping. At this point, Ronin does a 180, and completely changes his mind about killing the dude. He kinda does a “well now you know that this gang wants to kill you, so we’ll just see what fate decides” kind of thing and asks how he can help and stuff. Aurix is like shooting him Looks and trying to mouth stuff like “DUDE WE NEED TO GET INTO THE UNDERDARK ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DOUBLE CROSS THE DROW MAFIA,” but she takes her oaths pretty seriously, so she doesn’t really want to run this clown through in front of Ronin after she promised “I’ll have your back, however you wanna get the job done.”
She knows that the High Priestess of Savras has seen his face and heard his voice, and she also knows that he openly admitted where he’s from, so she’s just thinking, like, “well shit, I gotta protect this poor naive idiot or he’ll absolutely get arrested and/or silenced.” She tells him “okay, go leave back to the inn, don’t hide it, just let people witness you exiting the temple.” Once Ronin clears off, she talks with the mark, convinces him “look, these people will just send someone who’s actually willing to assassinate you once they realize this failed, you have to flee, I can help you disappear so well neither Shadowstone nor drow can find you.” With some very lucky smooth-talking, she convinces him to tell some of the Savras clerics he’s heading out for a walk to clear his head (thereby proving he was still alive after Ronin left), and she takes him out to one of the city gates.
Now, at this point, her full intention was “get somewhere with no witnesses, run him through, dump him in a ditch.” She did NOT want to backstab the drow criminal syndicate for a lot of reasons.
They also knew Ronin’s face and voice, meaning they could easily come for him and/or the party he was with.
Aurix had been prepared all along for “I can do an assassination for you” to result in actually doing the assassination, so she was pretty braced for “this is a priest, he probably won’t go HELL YEAH KILL ME I’M EVIL AS SHIT,” so she wasn’t all that moved by tears at all
also Aurix is a True Neutral lizardfolk only really concerned with keeping her oaths and surviving, so risking the necks of herself and her friends for no better reason than “this total stranger did a real sad cry” is just not really something she’s wired to understand
Aurix is a fuckign criminal with an evil sword that thirsts for blood. She’s been in shadyville so long that she’s probably pretty numb to shedding the blood of sapient beings, especially ones that are cronies in some Real Fucky Business
they definitely did still need to get to the Underdark, and the only really accessible entrance is in this exact city, so thumbing your nose at the drow seems REALLY unwise
It didn’t actually work out that way though. The mark passed out a little outside the gates, an elf standing guard there was all “HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING.” Aurix tries the “hhha ha ha he’s just drunk I’m taking him home,” but the dude just automatically knows that’s horseshit. I’m thinking “jesus christ this unexpected morality moment is going to get my character arrested and/or killed,” so I try to cast Hold Person. Automatic fail (I guess elves resist paralysis or WIS saving throws?). I’m like. [SCREAMS INTERNALLY] and just..... try to bribe the guy to forget he saw anything
I think the DM feels sorry for me and my utterly screwed character lmao, because the elf kinda just goes “actually for this much gold I’ll just handle making sure this guy gets to the next town over lol” at which point I go “COOL THANKS IF ANYONE ASKS YOU SAW NOTHING” and just fuckign. peace out. So I ended up losing a chunk of change on this, but like.... at least Aurix didn’t Perish
So the whole party reconvenes at the inn, and Ronin has already spilled most of what they were up to. The group moves up to one of their rooms for Privacy and Aurix is... not entirely happy.... about the way things went. She’s pissed that he sprung a last-second backdown on her with no warning and put her into a situation where she had to break an oath to these dudes, that they’ve made enemies of both sides of a gang war, that she had to go through a bunch of money and trouble to clean this up, and that there’s now a loose end running wild on his way to the next town over. The vanishing of a high priest is very quickly noticed, despite the “just going for a walk” thing, and the alarm is raised across the city. We decide “hey this would be a REALLY GOOD TIME to skip town.” We wait until the next day, when Corrin (half-dragon ranger/sorc) can pick up her new +2 spell focus, Aurix picks up the Entire Live Cow she ordered, and we skip town to go back to the ancient dragon’s lair and see how much of the hoard the kobolds have dug up.
Aurix comes barreling in all “MY SWEET LITTLE LIZARDY BABIES I BROUGHT YOU A BEEF.” Kobolds are very pleased to get an entire delicious cow, and present us with A SHITLOAD OF STUFF. 11K gold tossed into our portable hole, along with 36 more magic items (most of them are scrolls). We explain that we’re gonna be away for a while and that the kobolds really should stay away from hassling the nearby city because AURIX NEEDS HER BABIES TO BE OKAY LMAO.
With our ducks all in a row, Von (bardy boi) does a Teleportation Circle, and we all blip back to Breedonne to hand in our dragonscales to (and get our magic items Identified by) the wizardy dude who we’re doing this Main Quest stuff for. We retire to an inn to discuss our next move. We’ll still need more dragonscales probably, but it took us a lot to find this white dragon, so we’re not all that sure how easily we’ll even be able to locate another dragon to hunt. Sticking to getting mindflayer helmets from the Underdark seems like the better move, but considering the only really accessible entrance is the one in the city we just messed with the drow in, we’re kinda unsure how well that will go. We figure that we’ll maybe just, like... spend a bit here in Breedonne preparing and researching and getting materials for our Underdark adventure, and hopefully by the time we’re ready to come back, the heat will have died down a little bit. On that decision, we end for the night, and we’ll pick back up sometime in March!
