Thinking about how my Chronicle of the Spheres series is kind of an open letter to my extremely Lutheran upbringing, and an ongoing discussion of the effects of growing up queer and neurodivergent in that environment.
The setting, with its strong focus on the citizens of Heaven and Hell, is an obvious reflection of that. Then there’s the eventual reveal that “demon” used to mean “problem” and then linguistic drift happened. And the way all the major villains are characters who abuse the power they have over others (I know, I know, low hanging fruit). The fact that angels and demons for the most part are just people, but sometimes there’s an archangel who is vast eldritch and unknowable and he gets mad and stomps around because someone he’s fond of got hurt. There’s the character with a chronic illness being cast out from his own people. There’s the character struggling to face his trauma and screwing up over and over again while being exceptionally competent at everything else he does. There are exhausted healers.
Lost Souls aren’t condemned, they’ve just strayed from where they belong. Dragons are a diverse category of beings ranging from crow-like to godlike. Fallen angels have committed murder, but what about angels who have done every evil except murder? Sometimes a person can become an entirely different species. Mostly people just need the care and support of others.
There’s a theme of growth and healing throughout these stories. Akieryon goes far from home to find his place. Ragheiyont discovers (by total accident) a way to better manage his symptoms. Blood must be paid to restore the world of the dead, but it must be as just an act as the one that broke it. The remnants of a fractured culture will come home. The fridged character will be thawed.
It will be okay.
We will heal.
We will find where we belong.

Ocunan has gotten pretty good at hiding his presence, not necessarily willingly, though he tends to want it to be his own will that he hides, so he has trained to be nearly undetectable. Or maybe that's just what Ocunan wants you to believe.
Previous part:
I hope you found my comic interesting, I spent way too long to get it done.

So I found this video. It's just Joel Crawford (Director) and Januel Mercado (Co-director) discussing and showing the deleted scenes of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
Looking at the deleted scenes and reading some of the comments. I wholeheartedly agree that some of these scenes would've made the movie cringey or even downright bad. There are some I liked, but most of them I didn't. I am so glad that they didn't settle for half-baked jokes, bad character depiction and most of all, the seemingly forced relationship between Puss and Kitty. I'm not saying their ideas were bad, instead I praise them. I praise them for not being Disney.
So anyway, I wanna point out something here. I am incredibly grateful, that the final product that we, the viewers, got is the result of multiple revisions and changes that resulted for the better.
I used to think that PiB:TLW was a miracle movie. A one-off event that happens every 10 years or so. But I guess I was proven wrong by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. The video really showed that it wasn't a miracle, it showed that it's just the result of creative minds and collaboration. It shows that this is the result of a project that took 10 years to make. You can really feel the blood and sweat within it.
I truly admire their sense of passion, not just towards the director, but to everyone who participated in the project, who gave it their all and make it the best it can be. The actors, writers, screen writers, FX and the music team, everyone. They didn't leave any stone unturned and didn't settle for "Good enough", just like the Japanese saying "Kaizen" or "continuous improvement".
Anyway. All I'm saying is that Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, and everyone who worked on it, deserves every praise. They worked hard on it and they gave us something so good that it's almost a miracle.
Thank you, DreamWorks.

The Thrill of the Perfect Ending: A Chat With the Writer and Editor Behind The Atavist‘s New Issue
In this excerpt from The Creative Nonfiction Podcast, host Brendan O’Meara talks to Greg Donahue and Atavist editor Jonah Ogles about their work on “The Fugitive Next Door.”
Donahue’s story chronicles the life of Howard Farley, a man who hid in plain sight for more than 30 years before his past ultimately catches up to him. Not only does Donahue detail the twisting path that led to Farley’s discovery, he delves into the psychology of what it takes to disappear for that long. “There are certain writers who recognize good stories that have depth,” Ogles said — and this conversation gave us both.
I always like to end these conversations by asking for a recommendation for the listeners. It can be brand new coffee, a pair of socks, or a kind of notebook or a pencil you really like, but what might you recommend?
You may have heard of Steve Padilla as an editor at the LA Times. I don’t know him, I have no connection to him, except that he did these writing workshops a couple decades ago, and he’s recreated them over the years. If you just Google “Steve Padilla” and “writing workshop” it comes up in the form of tweets, or you can find the podcast of this talk he gave, but it’s his rules for writing nonfiction — and these rules have totally changed my life in terms of writing.
The number one for me, the singular advice that really hit home for me, was — and I’m paraphrasing — if you’re having trouble writing a sentence, if you keep getting jammed up on a particular sentence, it’s not that sentence that’s the problem. It’s the one that came before it.

behind the story // girl in the flame & hope in the horror
becca foreshadowed her attack on the arkadian when lexa first met her; just to taunt her. lexa and clarke initially didn't know who the commander was, but becca had known who they both were, ever since they worked the original calliope cadogan case. becca always had a plan, and it was always to blow up the arkadian.

Behind the Story-About Last Night
Link to story on AO3
This story inspiration came from the following fic on AO3 called Family is everything. I never considered Lillian and Kara as a pair until I read that. It was one chapter, but I realized that I wanted more. Unfortunately, since Kara and Lillian are a rare pair, there were only 11 stories on AO3 at the time. I decided then that I had to write a story about them. I thought about what the craziest thing I could think of the two characters doing together and then it hit me: drunken wedding night shenanigans.
I mostly wrote this story for myself since I was not really expecting a response considering the low amount of stories for the pair. I was baffled to find that there was a huge response to this story. It is my second popular story on AO3. I still have more in store for the pair story-wise that I hope will keep you guys thoroughly entertained :)

Conversations From the Road – A Creatively-Driven Life
Yesterday I talked about the anxiety I deal with on a daily basis, and the anxiety I’ve always had about whatever employer I’m working for suddenly canning my ass. Yet strangely enough, I’ve never had anxiety about my writing not working out. Granted, I haven’t gone all-in on it but that’s because I never believed enough in myself to do so. But realizing I don’t have anxiety about whether or not…

Dani, sightseeing in Gotham, thinks that perhaps Robin needs a personal Villain.
The others clearly suck at their jobs, and she's already hated by the government. Plus, there's a bunch of dead goons that would gladly help set up training exercises for Robin if she asked!
Vlad and Dan are always telling her to make friends in her own age group anyways.
So she goes and starts trouble when Robin is on patrol, and adamantly refuses to play with any other hero.
Red Hood arrives? She just stops, stares at him in disgust, and disappears.
Nightwing? She waves at him half heartedly and asks when Robin can come out.
Red Robin? Loves planning with him, isn't entirely convinced he's not actually a villain.
Spoiler? Best costume. But also the best at hunting Dani? 0/10. Dani flees on sight.
BlackBat? Girlboss. 10/10. Likes to learn some cool ninja moves from her to practice on Robin.
Batman? Adult. Smells like money. Gross. She makes it a point to stare at him with all the disgust and hatred she can before going invisible and stealing the candy from his belt.
Signal? Creeps her out. Always knows where she is. She does make sure to give him a wave sometimes. He seems pretty cheered up when she does that.
Robin? Time to play time to play time to play. Intense weird plots that serve no real purpose, mazes that always shift, puzzles she put together with Red Robin, holding Robin's other friend Superboy hostage for a really cool battle across the rooftops (Superboy is also like, kinda cool? He prefers to hang out normally, though; although he does agree that Robin needs this level of entertainment for enrichment purposes).
She thinks Robin is having as much fun as her, honestly.
(Damian is, and the rest of the Bats and Supers think it's adorable)

Among The Sweeteners and The Bitters
"I only listen to the Sweeteners than the Bitters, all my effort and love only for the Sweeteners. But these two, between sweet and bitter. Yuusei-kun, my administrator partner, and Sano-kun, my loud badass top. Wholesome players, I can't do both."
Behind the making of my short story for school story book. I have so much ideas I wanna send to the editor, this title is my new concept that I couldn't continue, sadly.
I have a request, what if I add a picture for this?

Bonus 8: How met your mother (CSSR design by @qourmet!)
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#cangse sanren#wei changze#jiang fengmian#It was important to me that WCZ had the hereditary mole. I will die on this hill.#I have been *waiting* for the day to finally arrive when I could finally make this comic. It's been marinating for months.#My mission is to redraw all of qour's character designs one day. They are just *that* good.#CSSR has the vibes of a wandering menace who shows up in towns like a stray cat arriving at a new doorstep for treats. 10/10.#While YZY strongly leads us to believe that JFM was in love with CSSR and that's his whole motivation behind taking wwx in-#-I do think this is (once again) rumour being presented as reality. It's the juicer story to tell after all.#It is still possible that he did love her! But I think that story undercuts the relationship he also had with WCZ.#Yall ever think about how JC and WWX parallel their fathers? How Wei Changze also left the Jiang Leader's side? I do.#Unlike JC though It is far more hilarious and plausible to imagine JFM begging to be CSSR and WCZ's third. You know he would.#My wild headcanon is that JFM and YZY are in a mlm and wlw arranged marriage situation. Deeply unhappy as partners. Better as friends.#they care for each other and I'll admit that there is a beautiful tragedy in them having romantic feelings for each other the whole time.#But I am also here for the gaffs. Let them be unfulfilled homosexuals together.#Meanwhile cssr and wcz are having incredible hetrosexual sex in a bisexual way that WILL leave him pregnant by the end of it.

Alright let's imagine a scene that is all too normal in palestine. A palestinian business owner finds his building covered in graffiti stars of Davids and Hebrew that says "gas the arabs" and "death to arabs"
Now imagine there's a reporter there and asks the palestinian business owner what happens and they say "the jews attacked my business"
Pause. Now your response might be "uncle no. Say israelis not jews" and then this is when he would look at you like youre stupid because the israelis doing this are jewish. They are not the Christians or the druze or the palestinian ones with Israeli citizenship. They are Jewish israelis who believe in their religious supremacy. When you graffiti stars of david all over a palestinian business, car, or the street you seek that conflation. it sends a message, this is jewish land and you're next.
The problem is that these videos circulate in zionist circles. "Watch this video of children in gaza calling for the death of jews" "watch how they say they want to fight and kill jews" those children are referring to Israeli soldiers that come in night and do their raids with the star of David attached to their uniform or the ones that bomb them. It's easy to watch those videos and assume that palestinians are indoctrinating their children on anti semitism or you can realize that those children's only interaction with jewish ppl is through violence and parents cannot protect their children from this. Doesn't matter context is lost
Abby Martin went to Jerusalem and interviewed israelis for 2 hours and she says every israeli was extremely confident to say that this land is for them and that they should push the Arabs out and when she interviewed palestinians they spoke of freedom from occupation and their dreams. That's reality. Not the soundbites.
And yet we have invasive youtubers and interviewers constantly in the street of ramallah or wherever in palestine asking palestinians "do you hate jews?" And in those videos you hear those palestinians say "no we have no problem with jews we have a problem with occupation and we have a problem with zionism." Bc this is how we are trained to respond to this trope. Palestinians are very aware what the world thinks of us and the reality is that many palestinians have internalized it and we grow up reading books on the Holocaust and train ourselves to recognize anti semitic dog whistles so zionists don't get the soundbites they want.
So we say "anti zionism is not anti semitism" and we say "israeli zionists" and we do not say "jewish supremacy" even thought it exists in palestine but "zionist supremacy" and in these carefully worded speech we water down what is happening to us in an effort to not deter people away from solidarity. But it means nothing. The world categorically blames palestinians for rising anti semitism they blame us for jewish insecurity globally.

Writing a new AU featuring the TF2 cast and one thing I hate about writing on my iPad is that, on occasion, if I happen to tab out of AO3 and go back into said tab after less than a minute, there is an 80% chance whatever I was writing will delete itself if I didn’t happen to save it prior.
