On this day: March 14, 1960

Johnny Cash released the first single, "Seasons of My Heart," from his upcoming album Now, There Was A Song! The single, released by Columbia Records, was a cover of the same song written by George Jones and Darrell Edwards in 1955. As the B-Side to the single, Johnny released "Smiling Bill McCall," written by Johnny himself, which does not appear on any of Johnny's antemortem albums. Johnny's recording of "Seasons of My Heart" reached #10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs list. "Smiling Bill McCall" reached #13 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs list and number #110 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles list.
