Okay I want to be 100 percent transparent and say that I do not and will never hold any malice towards the actors in the show. The only things I’m critical of is the writing and the lighting. The actors are doing amazing, I could not think of a more perfect cast they are putting their hearts and souls into the show. The problem is the script.

As for reading more, I only have 1 ficlet I’ve written of them (and that hc post.) I’m a very slow writer so sometimes all I can do is like a bullet point post or a rambling- but I hope to add more! tears of the kingdom could have been so good if it were built around like, its story or its characters instead of being a clunky shell to show off the mechanic no one asked for that it forces you to use

#* #text #totk #mechanics #i had fun scuttling around in the depths for a while but that got old eventually. for obvious reasons #what i liked about zelda games was always the atmosphere and character interactions #like. one of my favorite games is twilight princess. which is. deeply unserious in many ways #bit it COMMITTED to its setting and what the writers went ham making sure #that it was still full of whimsy and affection. #totk doesn't have that. the characters are all 1) instruction manuals or 2) vehicles for what small and disparate semblances of plot #survived whatever disaster must have happened in development that made them cannibalize several different ideas #and stick them into the shell for the fucking. arm #totk plays like a gallery or again just an engine for the building thing. #it's pretty. the music is good. the building thing is well made. but as a zelda game totk Fucking Tanks #i HATE overinvolved mechanics. i HATE having to stop and rely on a Whole Process that i have to keep stocked #to get anything done. i've always liked loz again bc of characters and whimsy but also bc it's always been mechanically vert streamlined #and accessible to someone like me who is disabled and finds fiddling EXTREMELY tedious #you have one required tool per dungeon and they're QUICK they're SIMPLE they're A GOOD TIME #totk. to me. is just clunky and has no redeeming qualities outside of again being pretty and still sort of nominally letting you run around #collecting things. some of the side quests were cute. but even then the characters were very. #THE THING ABOUT ZELDA GAMES IS THAT IM used TO THEM BEING ABOUT. NOT JUST THE FUNCTION!!!!!! #there were things— many of them! sometimes most of them even!!!— there just for fun. again almost especially The Characters #totk is so goddamn UTILITARIAN on all levels ITS. CLUNKY and BORING i don't WANT to have to do 30 things just so i can do something else. #hey nintendo. if you have to force people to play your game. like if you specifically have an ''open'' game and then subsequently have to #manufacturer MANY blocks and caveats to the idea of ''do whatever have fun!!'' so that it's''but only how WE want you to''. maybe thats bad. #maybe you've done a bad job. if again. you have to FORCE players to go about things in the way and order that you want. it's no fun. #like even zelda games where you have less options and linear progression feel less restrictive bc like. they don't fucking punish you. #for. playing the game. you just can't do things. totk really punishes you for going off script. which like. why even do that. #anyway. this is all probably incoherent. i'm right tho. #wow there are so many typos. pretend there are not <3

#today during our one on one my boss told me he would help me with trying to kickstart my writing career over the next year #he said he would recommend me for writer's assistant positions #he said he knows who's running the 24-25 writer's mentorship program and would put in a word when i apply this year #he if i couldn't find a script i need to read for reference he would try to find it for me #he sent me a pilot script for one of our new series and said we could read and meet to discuss character story arc and format questions #he knows i'm moving to mexico in 2025 and says he wants to do what he can to help with my career while he can #for context everyone is anxious about some industry news being reported in the trades about our company being bought by another one #and what it may mean for layoffs in our department #also he says they are testing ai workflow with a key element in our job responsibilities and that means they're prob gonna transition fully #at some point we're all gonna have to pivot #and he'd rather we both pivot to something we want to as opposed to being stuck on the same path and then layed off #so #i am gonna just prepare myself as best i can #if he keeps his word it could be even more of a transformative year for me #I won't have to do what i need to without help #in this industry knowing the right people and being prepared for opportunities is important #i'm just gonna put my head down and do what i need to

ppl are using velma show to pretend that sdmi was peak television. listen i had fun with it too but we're not going to pretend it wasn't just a distant relative of riverdale with scooby doo characters involved.

#sdmi writers were coked up to high heaven writing some of those scripts i swear to god #also the shaggy/velma dynamic icks me out so much even now #i know they were trying to imply that she was a lesbian via her relationship with shaggy but they did such. a bad job with it. #and instead just portrayed a really odd abusive relationship and then made it the butt of a bunch of jokes #iirc (in all fairness it's been a while since i rewatched sdmi s1. but i remember this pretty vividly) #cricket.chatterbox

How do you think Vi and Caitlyn saw each other when they first meet back in Stillwater ? What do they think of the other ?

Well, Vi clearly thought Caitlyn was just another asshole criminal in a fancy uniform at first, but I think Vi found Caitlyn intriguing nonetheless. Caitlyn seems to be the only person who cared enough to visit anyone in Stillwater and interrogate them. I'm sure no one bothered to find out why Vi was beating people up before. They would simply punish her for it. Fighting is just what inmates do.

Caitlyn knew there was more to it.

Amanda Overton did mention that Caitlyn saw the pain hidden beneath Vi's rage, so it's fair to say Caitlyn saw right through Vi's tough act, and I think it happened the moment she was shown the monkey drawing.

Caitlyn flinched like she expected to be assaulted based on the sudden lunge at her. Instead, Vi's entire demeanor changed. She was much softer. Closer. More desperate. Where did you get this? Where did you find this?

That's also when Vi finally offers to help Caitlyn. She is compliant, despite being sarcastic still. Caitlyn has the upperhand here because she’s got something that Vi wants, which is how she can play Vi's own game at being arrogant in defiance ("In what mad world would I trust someone like you?"). 

It's a way of indirectly getting Vi to reveal her true intentions. She doesn't know what Vi's crimes are, but Vi's response to being challenged is how Caitlyn discovers what Vi expects from her.

You enforcers are all the same.

She wants someone to be different - someone who shows her mercy. She’d never admit it, though.

I believe this is when Vi and Caitlyn really saw each other for the first time. Vi was genuinely vulnerable here. Caitlyn was willing to give Vi a chance to redeem herself, but she was still cautious about it. Don’t make me regret this.

They both softened up for each other. They saw each other’s humanity in the end.

Of course, if Qinghua actually wanted to be turned into a puppet or something, he probably wouldn't be feeling this kind of anxiety when faced with the Collector in the first place. It's only that thinking about messing up puts those thoughts into his head to comfort him a little when he inevitably does get scrapped for someone or something a lot better at writing than he is.

Still, I'd rather be in this position than the guys who actually have to read it. I'm completely through whenever he decides my writing isn't good enough. Not that it ever was. Shen Yuan was right, I'm really just a talentless hack who got this far by begging...
