- talking shit at each other and then someone goes “stop fighting :(“ and we looked at each other very confused like “we’re not fighting??” apparently this girl genuinely thought i hated him

- him: “good thing i like weird little freaks” me: “awww thats great cause me too”

- literally our first meaningful interaction was outside a frat party when he saw me, pointed to me, and told his friend, “this is the freak i was telling you about!” and it was the funniest thing to ever happen to me and i immediately told everyone i knew

- and then later i joked about it and he was like “yeah i called you a freak cause im also a freak” and i was like omg. i’m adopting you but also you’re my dad i am imprinting on you like a duckling

- this is actually not very stobin related now that i read it back but i’m so mf obsessed with this guy. what an enigma

Put up with my ramblings for a bit, but so I was doing a whole twins thing with my Azem where her twin (Persephone) dies young in a brutal accident and her soul--since they were twins with a soul split at birth--returns to my Azem, true name Ophelia. I was going for the whole "if soulmates were real, Persephone would have been the one Hades loved" to explain the whole, Hades' complicated feelings for her and Ophelia's complicated feelings for him back where she's certainly drawn to him, but is not entirely sure. Their relationship is a bit of a mess (and she actually has a thing for Venat, and refuses to let go of it no matter how much I've tried to set her up with Hades........ ma'am, I get it, but my storytelling!)

Anyway. I'm still a sucker for the tried and true Hades/Persephone myth and have been excited to work that into my Azem's story where Persephone is dead but lives on some in Ophelia, who technically is and was meant to be Persephone (split soul, remember!), they just developed as their own people, too. Ophelia's name was because 1) I love the name 2) I love the painting and I think it fits very well with my Azem's story and 3) the character of Ophelia as the mad woman fits my Azem even better.

But, and hear me out here: since there was one soul (split into Persephone and Ophelia) and they are twins, what if Ophelia's name is Kore? So the one soul was split into twins and they were named Persephone and Kore, with Persephone dying young and Kore remaining as her own self but absorbing the other half of her soul. So Kore really would be Persephone at her core; not the one who developed as her sister, but a Persephone figure (Kore) all on her own.

Basically I think I like this and want to ruminate on it for a bit.

Something a tad personal again after quite some time, but whoof, being brutally honest about my own shortcomings and fears or hopes with new(-ish) people who I look up to and would like to befriend is ssssssso fucking scary.

I just don’t want to enter any relationship with false pretenses anymore because that is SO draining to keep up. So far it seems to have paid of??? Maybe? Idk man I’ve never really learned to form healthy and lasting friendships, so maybe my 30s are just a whole new learning experience again ahhfjfk

Don’t know if this post has any point really, other than maybe: folks, being honest is scary, but it can also mean your relationships are finally the right ones for you. Maybe we should try being honest and broken more.

I've been escaping to my phone pretty hard for the last 2 weeks. In all fairness, two of my best friends are there and all my other friends are in person friends that i dont see very often. Its been a really hard two weeks so of course i sunk into the world of the internet. In 24 hours, things will start to get better. I dont know how much it will change of course, but im imagining it like Spring. All Winter long i get sucked deeper and deeper into my depression and then Spring comes, warmth returns, the Sun is shining and the difference is SO DRASTIC. The slow decent into the dark is overwhelming different to the sudden surge of light and suddenly the distance is a lot clearer. I imagine thats how it will feel. In 24 hours, we'll see.

In the prologue, Alina explains she never finishes her food because it tastes like mud. When Mal says it tastes fine to him, she simply teases him by saying he will eat anything.

I find this particular interesting for two reasons:

It could possibly mean she used to eat good food before going to the orphanage, or something of a decent quality. However, we know nothing of her parents or origins other than her birthplace which happens to be a battlefield between Shu-Han & Ravka, leading me to believe they were most likely trying to survive day by day, saving money and food.

Or, the suppression of her powers (and her sickness) comes from before Mal. We know the Duke's orphanage is not the best environment to grow but surely he could give them access to good ingredients as far as I remember. Sweet girl, why aren't you eating?

i'm having so much fun with the new tmagp characters (and i will miss them dearly until april 11th) (side note: patreon members get access on my sisters birthday which is pretty cool) and i don't want to compare them to the tma characters because they are unique and different in MANY ways, i just also notice some parallels

gwen is very similar to jon, she has had a somewhat skeptic attitude but has now clearly been exposed to the horrors (bonzo..) and she's also climbing the corporate ladder if you will. she runs the place, she's grumpy, and i think she's closer to becoming an avatar than any of the others (even sam) (see my other post about it if youd like) (idk how to link it on mobile sorry)

alice and tim are kinda obvious, both comedic with younger brothers and are very susceptible to romantic feelings (sasha/sam). there was a lot more going on with tim and we haven't seen much of that side of alice, so i'm really excited to learn about her backstory and/or traumas. less excited about what that might to do her but yk.. yk..

sam/sasha is the most interesting one to me. sam is curious like sasha was. sasha wanted to know which made her archivist potential in everyone's eyes. sam also wants to know, he'd make a great archivist. except he's not cautious, he's like sasha if she had never worked in the artifact storage. i think sasha's strength was what she had already experienced and what she knew, but she didn't know enough and ultimately that got her killed. sam is going to keep learning until he does know enough, but he doesn't have that prior knowledge to stop him from going too far. very interesting characters from both of them

celia and martin i guess? celia's different since she's not exactly from tmagp

lena and elias because creepy murder boss

and finally colin and gertrude which is kind of insane of me to say but hear me out. gertrude cut out the eyes of book covers and magazines and everything in her home. she was incredibly paranoid she just was also a boss ass bitch about it. i think younger gertrude must've been a lot like colin, but she figured it out quicker and realized what she needed to do to survive. she asked the right questions and took the right precautions. she had the archive full of knowledge. colin doesn't have the archive, he's messing with the wrong thing and he's taking every precaution and hurting himself and those around him (sam's phone specifically comes to mind). i think gertrude was like colin but she had the right resources to get through it

idk all of these are very interesting and it makes me worry a bit, but ofc every character is unique and has aspects to them that change their stories. they're probably still gonna die though, we know jonny sims loves killing characters ☹️

Teach your kids that it’s okay to give up.

ESPECIALLY, of course, your kids with ADHD or your autistic kids or your kids with a different neurotype in general, but your neurotypical kids will thank you for it as well.

Giving up isn’t shameful. Sometimes, we’ve done all we can with the tools that are at our disposal, and we still fail. Failure is a part of life and should be treated as such. We fail, we try again—or we don’t! And that’s completely fine!

In fact, teaching your kids that failure is in fact a moral failing or a fault in their character SETS THEM UP FOR MORE FAILURE. Encourage them. Bolster their resolve. But also know when it’s time to soothe them and let them know they don’t have to sink their teeth into something if it refuses to work out.

New paths can be forged at any time. Let it be.
