Miko and Holding a Grudge: Storytime is Learning Time

I was thinking about how in the final episode of TFP, Miko uses the "I'm going to beat your ass" armour to punch Knockout clean across the face

Miko punches him so quickly and efficiently that I genuinely could not get a screenshot of the impact moment. lmao

And there are a lot of good reasons for her to want to slap this twink into the stratosphere, but I was thinking about any specific grudges Miko might have personally against Knockout to help fuel that punch

Because typically Miko goes in with a sort of "I learned this by watching WWE with Bulkhead and I'm excited to hurt you" tiny human wrecker energy and is naturally hyped, so she tends to go in with a slightly showy approach to delivering a beatdown, which makes sense.

We know she watches stuff like monster truck rallies with Bulkhead, and we know she's watched Bulkhead and Wheeljack pretty closely, and this has had an impact on her developing her personal fighting style: High energy, maybe a couple attempts at some kind of signature moves. she's learned from TV shows and watching actual factional alien warfare play out in the Nevada desert. Shit's wild, and so is she.

But when she punches Knockout, it's a totally silent, quick, efficient hit-- which is pretty different to how Miko usually approaches "the smackdown".

Sure, part of it is because Knockout is sort of ruining a huge moment for the Autobots by quipping at a particularly annoying moment to do so, and she probably just wants him to shut the fuck up as quickly as possible so they can all get back to enjoying watching the revitalisation of Cybertron.

And they're all probably a bit tired from even managing to get to this point.

But then I remembered:

In the episode Flying Mind, Miko and Raf help Fowler off the Nemesis after he's been incapacitated.

But Jack stays behind, and when Knockout snaps out of Trypticon's stasis, he attempts to power drill through Jack's head/upper torso.

Ratchet comes through the ground bridge and punches Knockout, in the same way Miko punches Knockout in the series finale. One hit, and we're done here.

Now, Miko wasn't there to witness this, but we know Miko frequently asks the others to tell her about anything she misses, either because she's been asked to stay home or because things kicked off when she was otherwise not around. She likes to hear battle stories. She's actively jealous of the others when they get to go deal with cool shit and she can't for various reasons.

So we can assume that she asked Jack what happened, or perhaps Ratchet briefed everyone once the other Autobots were revived from temporary stasis, and she would have been present for that in the base.

Miko holds a grudge. There is an entire episode where her and Wheeljack essentially go on an ill-advised revenge mission after Bulkhead is injured. She operates on that mafia level shit, wanting revenge so badly that she essentially withholds information from Wheeljack until he agrees to let her tag along.

And while she learned from that experience, it does hint at the type of mindset she has-- Don't fuck with her friends, or she will very much hold onto that anger until she gets the chance to act on it.

When she punches Knockout, it's a quick, clean punch. Which makes sense contextually for that scene, she's not going to haul completely off on him in that moment.

But it also echoes how Ratchet dealt with him when Knockout was threatening Jack, and that seems like the kind of detail Miko would remember after having it described to her.

She has a bit of a vengeful streak, and even though she does learn not to act on desires for revenge, she's still a kid and god she loves fighting so much, and there is no way she forgot about that one time Knockout tried to kill her friend with a fucking drill-- Even if she didn't get to witness it, it's likely she was told about it in some way, and she's been holding onto that for a while.

So I just really like that her punching Knockout is a mirror of when Ratchet punched Knockout previously, because we know she's very good at paying attention to detail when it comes to fighting, and we know that she learns from observation and from listening to battle stories.

It makes a lot of sense if she just recognised Knockout as being that one bot who nearly killed Jack and remembered how Jack likely described the incident to her later (or may have gotten details from any debriefing Ratchet may have provided at the base), and in that moment recalled that Ratchet took him down in one hit, so she should probably just do the same.

It's quick, it worked before on this exact bot, it'll probably work again.

Miko does learn. She very much holds a grudge. And I like that even though her actions in the finale make sense even without the possible background connection to a prior episode, it does perfectly make sense either way.

You know she begged Jack for all the details later, and you know she committed that shit to memory.

If Ratchet can knock out Knockout, so can she.

And she's not having their victory moment fucked up by some dude who seriously put them in danger on many previous occasions, even if he came around to the "winning team" in the end.

anyway you just know Miko is a mascot for the Wreckers later on, like there's no way Wheeljack and/or Bulkhead doesn't custom paint the side of a ship at some point like a WW2 aircraft lmao but it's just a painting of Miko laughing maniacally while punching a boulder or something

***TBB SPOILERS**

Realized I never wrote up my thoughts on "Into the Breach," which was the first episode I've liked since "Extraction"!!! Probably because all I could think about was Echo for 72 hours afterward.

This episode gave me such Rebels vibes, and that's truly the highest compliment I could pay any Star Wars media. I present my case:

There's an objective laid out from the start that is a small but crucial piece of the larger plot. The beginning of the episode presents this problem, and by the end of the episode, that specific problem solved.

Everyone is competent, and every character gets to do something vital to the mission. Whether it's a small thing doesn't matter; it's the fact that if that character wasn't there to do that small thing, the mission might be screwed that matters.

The action is meaningful—it conveys something about the characters while also driving the plot forward—and there's suspense that ratchets up the tension. And then to diffuse it, there's humor, and each joke is funny, but it's not overdone.

Infiltration episodes are such a Star Wars staple, and it's a real shame that TBB hasn't had more of them. They tried to make up for it by putting THREE infiltrations into this episode lmao. The fact that they show one long-term infiltration, one short-term infiltration, and one super short-term infiltration is very clever and makes the writing feel cohesive and dynamic, something this show hasn't always been able to achieve.

Also important, they do both a space/flight mission and a ground mission (two of each, technically), which is something that always helps make an episode feel like it's set in the GFFA and not just, you know *cough* Space!Louisiana. Or Tatooine scene #700.

There's also some nice storytelling going on with the environment—they go from being outside on the cloud city (free) to inside a space station (trapped with enemies), and for Omega, inside a cell (in which she actually enters another cell, visually—her bunk). The wide outdoor shots make the close, indoor shots feel much more claustrophobic, which is exactly the atmosphere these particular indoor settings should be giving off.

Other thoughts and meta:

Daytime Tantiss is a good sign! Forecast: Not death?

Prison Break Omega is just such a good vibe, and this would just be so fucking cool...except we've literally already seen her escape once this season??? And it was already really well done??? This is like the flip side of my complaint that Omega was too helpless in the first season, and it was annoying how she constantly needed to be rescued. Now she's too competent and is always escaping lol. It just really, really cheapens the dramatic effect either escape could've had.

Needless to say, the Batch's driving purpose once again being that they're struggling to rescue Omega is just. I'm tired. If there are going to be two major captures and two major escapes this season, at least one of them needs to be a narrative flip!!! The Batch rescuing her at the front end of the season and Omega escaping herself at the end, or vice versa, would've made it much less repetitive (and stopped cutting the Batch off at the knees in order to show Omega's competency). Omega even gets captured in the same fucking way—she gives herself up in "Plan 99" and "Point of No Return"! Ughhhhh

Okay I swear I actually like this episode lmao, I just. Editor instincts.

Thinking about how Omega left Lula on Pabu and has essentially left Straw!Lula to Eva, and how it shows that she's shed her need for comfort and is now ready to provide that comfort to other children, which is very lovely. But I'm also worried about Lula and Tech's goggles being on Pabu, because there are only three thematic options here: Everyone returns to them (sanctuary), everyone leaves them behind (leaving the past behind), or Omega returns to leave more items, say a bandana or a Firepuncher (memorial). The link between Lula and the goggles is actually not that natural (unless you're a Techwrecker shipper like me :D), so I've been pondering this choice a lot.

The symbolism of everything inside Tantiss being in the shape of the Empire cog and every character within its walls being a cog of the Empire is so heavy handed...and I am here for every moment of it!!!

Truly did not expect Rampart to stick around for so long. He's going to be a main character in the finale at this point?? I like how he's like a Kallus foil here—despite being scapegoated by the literal emperor he's still loyal to the regime and takes such pride in it. A very Jennifer Corbett & Brad Rau–esque character.

The way that when Echo came down the ramp I literally said, "Oh, thank god."

Hunter and Echo doing the clone hand clasp (and not wrist clasp, you'll note) isn't as emotional given that we already know how strong their bond is at this point, but it's still nice to see this visual callback to the Batch respecting Cody so much despite him being a reg that Hunter would use this hand clasp to greet him. It's a great shorthand (ha) for Hunter's feelings, since he is particularly suspicious of outsiders, and Echo is now fully "one of his."

I really love the mirror of the scene when the Batch is in the cell on Kamino and they escape by breaking into the wall—Omega effectively does the same thing here. These are the satisfying kinds of repetition, rather than entire arcs!

Every time I think about the Tech-is-the-mustachioed-doctor theory I giggle. It would just be. So anticlimactic?? But absolutely hilarious.

The costume change is so unnecessary, buuut I'll be first in line to buy the variant figures! Also it's nice to see some canon clone armor painting after writing and reading so many fics about it!!

I really like Hunter sensing Rampart plotting and how it brings his powers even closer to Jedi precognition.

Not too much Crosshunt in this ep, but I like how in both shuttle scenes, Crosshair stands in a position that blocks Rampart from getting to Hunter in the cockpit (while Wrecker blocks Rampart from getting to the exit).

Not particularly significant, but I like the visual detail of Hunter, Echo, and Crosshair bracketing Rampart in a triangle and it looking like they're his bodyguards but them actually forming that position because he's their prisoner.

The way I screamed when Rampart tries to get Echo to say "sir" and he just says, "I don't think so." Echo did not go through everything he's gone through up to this point to take anyone's shit!!! And the way Rampart just takes it and looks down all ashamed is peak comedy to me. Even he sensed that he was treading on dangerous ground there. (Just for a second think about Fives on Umbara and how he refused to take Krell's shit from the very start...)

The commandos being on this space station (that's orbiting Coruscant??) makes me very sad because it kind of foreshadows a dark ending for the Tantiss arc by showing that the commandos are spread all over the galaxy. So even if they rescue all the commandos from Tantiss, it still wouldn't save all the others. In which case, writing wise, it feels way more unlikely for them to save the commandos on Tantiss at all.

Wrecker tapping his foot while scrolling through the comments on his AO3 account is very cute. Also in the last episode the mining foreman was on his datapad like a phone and I thought it was supposed to convey that he was lazy lol but maybe this sort of thing is just going to show up in SW a lot more now haha

The lieutenant demanding to know where the captain is is kind of silly because wasn't he the one to let him go inside?? Why would he be back at his ship? But I love me the Rebels-esque gag of knocking him out on the ship.

Everyone is screaming about Crosshair having faith in Echo getting them through, but I would also like to contribute the fact that Crosshair says, "You can't go alone." A very poetic line of dialogue because being alone in the Techno Union is what the Batch saved Echo from being, and it's what Crosshair chose to be for two and a half seasons of this show. Not wanting to be alone again was also what made him turn against the Empire! We also see this anxiety in the previous episode, where he (in that very ridiculous reveal) admits he doesn't want to go back to Tantiss (and be alone again).

ECHOOOOOO!!!! About fucking time they gave him another action feature!!! I rewatch that opening sequence in "Tipping Point" constantly. And not only that, it's a very character-driven action feature for once!!! We see him showcase what it means to be an ARC trooper and also what it means that he's "part-droid." A test I like to consider when I gauge the quality of action-ensemble media is, Could any other character have done that? In this case, the text is very loudly telling us absolutely not! Also the way he exudes confidence about it ("But I can") is also just. Super hot, 10/10

Tbh the Echo feature felt so out of place for this show that at this point I was suddenly filled with terror that he was about to die. Thank god he did not, but he's still separated from the others by the end, so it's not out of the question for something terrible to happen in hyperspace, and I do not want it!!! But altogether that was a badass third act and a very good episode!

Yesss, Predaking *needs* a Queen, and Magnus is perfect - beautiful and strong..

The idea of Magnus actually being easy took me OUT but you know.. i actually love it. No one knows about it because they just.. never try. And Predaking is charming anyway, so Magnus is opening up pretty quickly..

omg Ratchet being so done with Optimus' pining that he wordlessly thanks Predaking for giving him something to goad Optimus with, relieved when the Prime stomps to the ship..

Even if they weren't already determined to end the War (something that will be much easier with Predaking as a secret agent on the Nemesis, my god imagine Prime and Predaking teaming up, holy shit) they would be determined anyway once Magnus tells them "nothing's going to happen until the war is over anyway". I can imagine them waiting for things to settle down and then pinning Magnus between their bigger frames, smugly pointing out that the War is over now..

They're very understanding though, despite their *need* to breed him - giving him more time, until one day he bashfully tells them that he thinks he's ready now.. He's an absolute wreck by the time the sun rises again, definitely not getting out of berth for the foreseeable future..

Also omg. Imagine Optimus and Predaking playing with Magnus' refineries. His wells. His tits. They're so big, and warm, and soft.. It's so easy to mark them up as well, pulling on the little nubs and biting them, pulling the sweetest noises out of Magnus.. And when they finally spark him up, and his tits start leaking whenever they're being too rough...

I think ratchet's been putting up with optimus pinning for TOO LONG. The first time Optimus and Magnus meets Optimus walked away like 😳👉👈 and went to bother ratchet about it, then every time Magnus showed up after that ratchet had to deal with Optimus doing the same thing. They may be friends but ratchet is SICK OF IT. He's tried many solutions over the years to get Optimus to act on it (Optimus' last relationship was with Megatron, who was more upfront in their relationship and usually initiated stuff. Rip Megatron u were a good one b4 u started doing space crack)

As soon as Cybertron recovers enough to have bars, Ratchets going to buy Predaking a cyberbeer, he swears it.

I probably worded that wrong earlier lol, the autobots are def trying their best to end the war!!!! but having a secret dragon turncoat that's infiltrated the nemesis helps a LOT lmao. I am now imagining a comedy of errors where Predaking keeps trying to bite Megatron's head off on the nemesis and various factors (starscream, well placed door frame, too many witnesses, starscream again, dark energon, starscream a third time, etc) keep stopping it from happening. There's gotta be some dramatic reveal too, Predaking and Optimus teaming up to fight would be SO COOL.

Mayhaps after their team-up is the first time they share Ultra Magnus, after gaining a new appreciation for each other in battle ☺️ (and maybe they fuck in the aftermath too☺️☺️☺️)

Oooooohhhhhhhhgggggg them working together to tease and grope Ultra Magnus' Megamilkers 🤤🤤🤤 2 titties mean one person can put all their focus on one boob... so sunny and blue are mates. i personally headcanon that similar to most actual fish species, once the spark eggs end up hatching, the little babies end up swimming out into the rust sea to grow up. (let's be real here most of em end up dying but maybe sunstreaker meets a few of his offspring later off down the line)

so sunstreaker really wants to dick down bluestreak again, because what else are mate supposed to do with each other? and bluestreak is like "oh babe no, i have a job, i cannot get pregnant with three hundred eggs again"

and sunstreaker basically fucking calls off their relationship. and by that i mean he fucks off to the depths of the rust sea with a pout on his face plates and a sinking feeling in his spark. he's torn because he really like bluestreak, not just the interfacing is really great, but also just because the land dweller is a genuinely nice bot who treats him as more than just a nice piece of valve

bluestreak is very busy with his job but he starts to get really worried when sunstreak doesn't show up to their usual meeting spot. he ends up talking to a group of local merformers who live at the university he's studying/working at (i'm thinking rodimus, ratchet, and drift) who basically tell him "you done fucked up stupid" and poor blue is sparkbroken because he didn't mean to hurt his beloved sunny but he really cannot afford to be knocked up 24/7 (y'know with that pesky land dweller economy the way it is lmao)

sunstreaker, on his end, has eventually decided that he's gonna go talk to blue, sort some shit out, and try to fix shit, because while he's a petty bitch who can hold a grudge, more than a few other merformers have caught wind that he's fair game now that the stupid land dweller is out of the picture and sunny's getting real sick and tired of beating people up just to get some alone time

maybe sideswipe knocked some sense into him. (perhaps sides and his mate have decided not to have eggs or smth and they tell sunny about the joys of causal interfacing and how nice it is to be cuddled after getting your valve absolutely wrecked)

anyways sunstreaker manages to swim through the sewer system into the university and bluestreak is minding his own business when he gets a frantic call to come down to one of the tanks with a more aggressive merformer because his boyfriend just randomly showed up and now they're beefing (maybe the bigger merformer is trying to dominate sunstreaker and now sunny's trying to rip his fucking throat cables out)

bluestreak manages to get the whole situation sorted out and sunny is quickly moved to an empty tank so they can talk. cue cute and fluffy shit before sunstreaker grabs blue by the collar faring and hauls him into the water, quickly pinning him down and getting his beloved's spike deep inside his valve opening

anyways happy ending, sunstreaker quickly comes to realise that the idea of bluestreak being stuffed full of eggs is great, having his mate's pussy 24/7 without eggs in the way is just as, if not, better.

hell maybe he moves to the university tank full time and agrees to help catalogue/give info to the university regarding the life cycle and mating habits of rust sea merformers.

bonus points if sunny gets his servos on those fake eggs that bluestreak used on him and then stuffs bluestreak full, slapping a panel lock on him to keep his armour flared and have him waddle around without the downsides of pregnancy

i just really like the idea of sunstreaker and bluestreak being sweet and cute with each other while simultaneously having the nastiest sex possible in the middle of bluestreak's shifts.

Sun Wukong just quietly weeping in the corner cause he can't be Father or Grandpa Sun to the bots. They all call him kid including Bumblebee(who decides to be a little shit about it half the time). Actually, he can be Grandpa Sun to Predaking as the Predacon is a clone and probably isn't that old.

They'll have to wrestle first though considering the Decepticon issue. Only other way for the Monkey King to be older than a Cybertronian is if it's a Sparkling(baby bot). Everyday he's closer into searching for one just so he'll rightfully feel old.

Speaking of being called kid, Pigsy would instantly go silent as he can't really rebuttal about it due the massive age gap. At most he'll ask for them to not refer to him with that title. Sandy just blink but shrug it off. Although he is most likely to get offered water a lot since he's a river spirit in Nevada which either a desert or wasteland.

Nezha would be number 2 on the 'Don't Call Me Kid' list. It's embarrassing for mortals to refer to him like that as none of the factions are truly immortal. They just have insane life spans.

Macaque has a shit ton of blackmail if someone dares call him 'Kid'. He can hear into the past so finding something would be a cinch. Also Macaque definitely share some new swear words with Miko as further incentive to not call him 'Kid'.

DBK is number 1 on the 'Don't Call Me Kid' list. He's older than Nezha and Sun Wukong so being referred to like that would just anger him. Especially since DBK will only get involved in this alien robot insanity because of Red Son. Princess Iron Fan doesn't want to be called kid either but she likes hearing about the drama from this war. It's a free soap opera in her opinion.

Speaking of age, imagine the looks on Team Prime's faces learning their items that can grant immortality like peaches as there is the idea of magic they're still trying to figure out. Ratchet already had an aneurysm when MK cloned himself just to help with unpacking their latest supply haul. (Ratty doesn't like Porty MK at all.)

Optimus in the corner recording all of this as the archivist in him has become active. Tang and him would be talking for hours if they ever met.

I was tagged by Jams @not-nervous-jester to share my writing process so here you go, I'm sorry but this will get a bit long and it'll not be proofread cause life's too short (and my laptop has 4% battery left) 🙃

Do you write in order?

Yes and No. I start off any writing project (whether it be fanfic or work) with a detailed outline of the major plot points. I do the endings first more often than not when I'm planning a fic, then the middle, and finally, once those are out of the way, then I'll tackle the beginning kinda.

Because I write like a person possessed, the beginnings sort of just happen on their own but I need a guideline for hitting the major points or it will be all out of whack.

How fully formed does your writing come out the first try?

About 100%. Because I am so incredibly stupid and anal about this stuff, my first try is essentially a weighty tome of garbage. You can only throw out the garbage once I'm done, you can't add more to it. I guess this analogy doesn't work but it works in terms of the ✨ vibe ✨ I'm trying to create, stay with me people!

How many drafts do you go through?

Just one actually. If there is stuff in the first draft that I am not okay with, I will stop writing and simply leave it for a week or a month until I feel like picking it up again later 😐 The only time I actually create a new draft is when parts of the original are unreadable. Actually I'm lying, I just add stuff to the first draft while whistling and being inconspicuous.

Tell me about your process.

First comes the playlist. It HAS to start with a playlist. Every project has a separate playlist. Songs can be repeated, playlists cannot be the same though. It's a thing, and if I don't do it, it'll be a whole separate thing tbh.

The playlist has to be instrumental, it has to be mainly cellos and violins for the meatier scenes, piano is okay for the fluffy non-plot filler bits that I'm writing for my own entertainment. There can be no words or bits of the fic will turn into a Metallica song, I'll be sued, I'll lose everything and most importantly, the fic would never be finished.

Next comes the poetry, stuff that is actually inspiring the work and pushing it forward. That usually goes in tumblr drafts so it's easier for me to access from my phone. This is usually screenshots from e-books or actual pictures from physical books.

Because I do a fairly detailed outline beforehand, I usually start writing the beginning because that's what I haven't planned out yet and am most excited by. This takes me the longest amount of time and I also do a LOT of rewriting at this stage because personally, as a reader, I do abandon a lot of fics if the beginning isn't doing it for me.

I use google sheets cause I'll sometimes reread my stuff over the phone but I only ever write on the laptop, my phone is mainly for rereading and obsessing.

I also edit as I go along based on feel and make notes where I need to add stuff. If I edit later once I'm done, it usually doesn't come out like I want it to.

Once chapters are done, I copy paste them into Google Translate so I can hear them being read back to me. I catch a record number of missed typos and errors this way. I'm very conscious of the way I write dialogues because I'm so nitpicky when I'm reading other people's dialogues and this also allows me to correct issues with those (the "he would never fucking say it like that" errors)

After the first couple chapters, I'll share the google doc with mutuals and friends (mostly Ara @stedebonnets ) and I don't have a beta reader. Plot points I'll discuss with Josh and Joy 😭 and I don't publish fics on ao3 until the entire thing is written cause I'm a big stinking fic abandoner lmao (smauglock fic from 5 years ago rip 🪦 sorry readers)

Rodimus for the ask meme. I think about Him daily

oh my boy. my favourite bastard lad. i adore him.

The moment I loved them most: that scene on mederi where ratchet condescendingly attempts to get rodimus riled up because he kind of gets where rodimus' reckless attitude draws from but doesn't FULLY understand so it's unconvincing, and then rodimus turns around and shows everyone how it's really done by very seriously demanding god show up to argue with him and THEN, when god seemingly does, is delighted and immediately ready to go. like. that scene is peak rodimus. he is simultaneously exactly as absurd as everyone around him thinks and also like. way, way more serious about it than they realize. he's not actually shallow and immature as much as he's just so completely unhinged under the surface you almost wish he was just those things instead. i would die for rodimus.

The moment I hated them most: ghhhh man. he has so many moments early on where you're like. god stop being an ASSHOLE for FIVE SECONDS. him insisting swerve take the shot on fort max is a standout. that one is BRUTAL. for both of them, not to mention poor rung. it's so staggeringly bad a bit of judgement that reveals how much rodimus cares about taking action personally over like... the very obviously better option for everyone's well being. oooh i always hate him for a second when he does that, lmao.

The moment I understood them most: god like all the time honestly. i find rodimus regrettably easy to grok tbh, lol, i'm like *points* Oops, That Bundle Of Flaws Is Annoyingly Relateable! maybe when he peeks at the list of people who want him gone. i can't stand when people have opinions about me i'm not privy to. it drives me up the wall. i would 100% want to look at that list.

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (1998) Review [Part One]

Two days ago, I made a decently long post about my thoughts on the classic Playstation game Crash Bandicoot. Yesterday, I made an even longer follow up post about my thoughts on that game's sequel: Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. I recommend reading those first. So to keep that streak going, today we're going to look at the game made to conclude the classic trilogy and this post got so long that Tumblr made me break it up into two parts. How could possibly be so much to say about an old Playstation game? Well, let's just get into things.

Once again a year after the previous game, Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped released on store shelves. Well, in the UK anyway. Here in the US, it was titled simply Crash Bandicoot: Warped. I refuse to call it that because randomly dropping the number is dumb. Well whatever you call it, this game is a weird one. It’s starting to feel like Naughty Dog might be running out of ideas, because unlike the previous Crash games, this one is entirely themed around a single gimmick: time travel. Having your whole game tie around a single theme is normally done when your series has reached a certain point that you have to do it so that your new game feels distinct from all your other ones. For example, most 3D Mario games chose 1 single theme, be it summer islands, traveling across space, or exploring around the world and then have each level be different takes on that theme. That’s not a bad thing per say, but it is weird for Crash 3 to suddenly go for this approach when Crash 1 and 2 didn’t. Perhaps that’s why it’s not known as Crash 3 in some regions? Probably not. Anyway I digress, let’s just move on to the story.

This game picks up right where the true ending of the last game left off with the Cortex Vortex destroyed and falling from space. It crashes into… some kinda temple and someone or something was “freed at last”. We cut to Crash and Coco at home when Aku Aku realizes that it was the evil Uku Uku who was freed. Now I’m sure you’re wondering: "Who the heck is Aku Aku and what’s the deal with this Uku Uku guy?" Well Aku Aku is a character who was in the first and second Crash games who I’ve simply failed to mention until now, and that’s mainly because he wasn’t really a character at all. Aku Aku was just a powerup in levels. You find an Aku Aku and you get an extra hitpoint. Find three and you get invincibility. Pretty simple. Starting in Crash 3, he’s now a main character. Honestly in the first two it just felt like Aku Aku was just some weird inanimate mask that there are tons of, not one singular character. Why is he in boxes? Why can three of them stack? Well whatever the reason, in this game going forward he's now a parental figure of sorts to Crash and Coco. As for Uku Uku, we find that he was sealed away in an underground prison eons ago by his twin brother Aku Aku to protect the world from him. Meanwhile we find out that Cortex was somehow working for Uku Uku the whole time actually and Uku Uku was the real mastermind. Uku Uku is angry at Cortex for failing as Cortex begs for forgiveness as they scheme a new plan to collect the crystals. Aku Aku warps Crash and Coco to a time machine Cortex was going to use..somehow and Crash and company decide to collect all the crystals before Cortex does, except this time, they’re going to go through time and collect those crystals where they could be found throughout history and this is literally the plot of Avengers Endgame. Obviously there’s no way Endgame was inspired by this, although they did reference Ratchet and Clank in that movie… Nah moving on. Crash stops Cortex and Uku Uku by collecting everything in the game and after the pair’s defeat the time machine malfunctions and sends the two of them, plus N Tropy (the creator of the time machine), back to the prehistoric ages with them all stuck as babies. The end.

This plot sucks lmao. It’s full of retcons and moments that don’t make sense. Obviously it’s not a big deal because the storyline isn’t why you play these games, but the game is certainly still trying to tell a story. You know, if they weren’t trying to tell a story they wouldn’t have bothered to do anything, like the average Mario game. There’s a bizarre amount of lore and characters tied up in this series and I haven’t even mentioned a lot of them. It’s fucking weird. Perhaps it’s even.. insane? No? Ok. Well the point stands that if they didn’t want to tell a good plot they shouldn’t have told one. I suppose I can understand if the point was to give us an excuse to see these characters interact with one another, but none of the dialogue in this game is very entertaining. Crash is voiceless and he doesn’t really have a well defined personality, I’m not sure Coco had any speaking lines, Aku Aku is just kinda boring, and none of the villains were interesting. Well, except Cortex I suppose. He’s shown to be a lot more tired, reluctant, and pessimistic about his plan working in this game which directly contrasts with the confident and energetic Uku Uku. That was moderately interesting, but there was no real payoff to that. This whole plot just confuses me. What was Naughty Dog doing with this? Did they want a narrative or not? My best guess is that they wanted to do the Mario thing where we have a basic narrative that’s just an excuse for gameplay, while at the same time not? If you just want a gameplay excuse, what’s all this extra fluff? It makes no sense. Perhaps it’s even… insane- wait fuck I already used this joke.

But yeah, once again the plot doesn’t really matter in Crash. I just think it’s interesting to analyze. Naughty Dog is a company that later went on to be known for their groundbreaking storytelling (although whether or not their later stories truly are groundbreaking is a heated debate that I don't have time to address here). It's interesting how even as early as Crash 3 they're trying to do... something narratively. Something beyond what was necessary to include for a game of this type. In a way, it's part of a larger shifting trend moving into the Playstation 2 era where a lot of platformers started having progressively layered plots despite the fact those plots weren't particularly needed to prop up the gameplay per se. Games like Super Mario Sunshine, Sonic Adventure 2, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and of course Naughty Dog's own Jak and Daxter. That's not to say Crash 3 was responsible for that trend (I'd argue that games like Sonic Adventure hold more of the blame) but it was an early adopter of that style. Not that there's anything wrong with having a story, as long as it's well written (which a lot of the games of this era sadly weren't).

In fact, this theme of Crash 3 being an early adopter of trends common in the Playstation 2 era is actually a bit of a running theme here, as we finally move on to what actually matters: the gameplay.

Which of your fics would you keep the basic plot of but rewrite completely?

hmmmmmmm probably it is love we must hold onto. it's an hp au/eighth year fic i was working on before jkr's really shitty behavior went public and i kinda lost my interest in the fandom, but it's a really neat idea, i've just grown a lot since i started it and at this point, it'd need an overhaul for me to feel comfortable continuing it. (i've considered it, but if i do it, it'll have to come after invisobang lmao)

9. Thoughts on cliffhangers.

if they're done well, HELL YEAH BABEY BRING THEM ON!!! but if an author has just cut a scene in half to create artificial tension, no. the cliffhanger should feel natural, you should be able to see the fade to black for a commercial break or the "next week on..." or flipping the page to see the next chapter page. rick riordan does a really great thing in blood of olympus where he'll ratchet up the tension and just as you're in it, you're like "yes! let's go! let's see what they'll do next!" you turn the page and you change POVs, and in that book's case, location. it was a great way to keep the tension moving through the story as they slogged through a long and boring travel without The Extremely Long Camping Trip

had a transformers dream so I’m going to write it down in case I ever get the time/energy to write this fic because it has potential

typing real fast before I forget the details!!! 

premise of dream: Transformers but also Greek mythology 

Rodimus was Dionysus and used his flames to heat up water in this totally badass cyber-hydroponics type system to grow these huge plants like grapes but the grapes contained energon which he made special “wine” with lmao, good vibes 

Ultra Magnus was Zelus, owing to his strong conviction in structure and law, embodying dedication and genuine satisfaction when shit is Done Right lol (Zelus = Zelos = where we get the word “zealous” from). my brain made an interesting choice here but honestly not the worst, I can see it. he was not in this dream a whole lot but he was there briefly so I’m just telling y’all what my brain generated lol if I write a fic I might reconsider this one or leave as-is, idk yet more research is needed 

and because apparently I ship Dratchet even in the depths of my subconsciousness, Ratchet was Priapus -- Likely because of the overlapping connotations of health and fertility in a lot of classical medicine. 

There was a brief Med Bay scene and he was just doin’ regular maintenance type check-ups on a few bots, but at one point someone roasted him because apparently in this dream mythology AU he has a tendency to run a little warmer than average as a default setting, checks out I guess lmao

he was also hyper protective of his patients, like he doesn’t care if other medics come in but his whole vibe in this dream reminded me of Angry Ram LOOOL listen it’s not his fault he’s charged up by default okay, it means his systems are running correctly, his vents are working fine so no problem, he’s just kinda Like This 

I’m asexual so there was no sexy content in this dream LMAO but I assure you Drift was always in relatively close proximity lol 

and of course Drift was Aphrodite -- I am 99% sure this is because of that one Aphrodite statuette I saw that one time in the Ashmolean Museum with the huge hips and belly but the statuette was posed as if it was dancing which evidently is extremely rare for that period in Grecian iconic sculpture if I remember correctly so it kinda sticks out in my memory among all the other ones that were on display but anyway 

so in the dream Drift had the proportions of the Aphrodite statue which honestly isn’t that different from his actual canonically huge hips anyway (best character design decision of all time, thank you JRO / J Law) 

tbh I like the design for him that my brain generated, very fat and glowy but still a potentially dangerous warrior, sticks with the theme of passion l guess :’) <3 and he still had his swords so watch the fuck out lmao but also: potential for sword dancing in this dream AU which seems like it could be cool. 

people apparently also go to Drift specifically to officiate conjunx ceremonies, which makes sense; he’s still a third in command of some kind in this AU from what my brain allowed me to perceive in the dream realm LMAO and he’s also the embodiment of most themes related to relationships and love, so this checks out to me 

idk I like the idea of Drift dragging Ratchet into helping set up space robot god weddings every now and then, Ratchet pretends to be uninterested but he always arranges check-ups for those undergoing their rites just to be sure everyone’s healthy for the big day. :’) it’s stressful, make sure you stay adequately fuelled etc. 

(Ratchet may also carry out what are essentially equivalents of fertility clinic screenings for any bots who might express a desire to raise a sparkling at any point in the future, because that’s thematically appropriate-- even if the Well generates sparklings or hot spots exist in this dream AU, he’s still like “you are going to get ZERO recharge for the next several cycles, sparklings that are going through initial protoform development are restless and you’ll need to pay attention to...” and so on lol) 

but I like that my brain made these two the power couple of this dream AU lmao, Angry Ram Ratchet is a fun take and I love Drift with the super fast, super fat, super warrior of passion vibes, he’s super excited about helping you pick the location for your conjunx endura rites to be carried out, and he’ll fuck up anyone who ruins this for you <3 lmaooo I actually really like this idea??? thanks dream brain, hell yeah 

I like the idea that their designs are all mostly the same but the changes are related to their respective mythical entity theme and symbolism which my brain integrated from TF canon lol, like Priapus!Ratchet is already wide and sturdy etc. he just runs hotter here due to permanently slightly higher charge (which is also useful for delivering jump start shocks if someone’s in spark arrest etc. so it’s helpful at work, not just a “lol somebody call Drift already” joke) 

and Aphrodite!Drift is all rounded out because it’s a common theme with love/life in a lot of TF media; sparks are round inside the chest compartment, sparks (as in sparklings in hot spots) are round, the Well of All Sparks has a round opening and any sparks emitted forth still retain their circular shape even when not being subjected to cyber-geological pressures in the ground in hot spots which is interesting, when becoming amicas etc. round outwardly emitting halos of life energy intertwine between sparks, and so on 

there’s a lot of round/circular imagery associate with life and love, so I guess my brain was like “makes sense for Aphrodite!Drift to be round too” and honestly huge shoutout to my dream brain for generating that because it works super well both conceptually and visually 

anyway oh god uhhh what else can I remember from this dream 

Velocity was Hygieia and First Aid was Asclepius, makes sense to me 

fuuuuuck I already forgot the others!!! dreams always fade so fast for me, but hey at least I got some notes down lol 

anyway it was a fun dream, mostly everyone was hanging out in a Temple-like version of Cybertron that was basically “what if Iacon was Crystal City but also Athens”

Idw Prowl is an evil SOB (took him two years to send the Wreckers to Garrus-9 and help Maxy (who was protecting all the war crimes the Bots did), put Maxy’s torturer and a war criminal on board the Lost Light cuz why not, sent Pharma to Delphi knowing it was DJD territory)

Prowl... Prowl’s creation and competence in his area of work is astounding. He is brilliant, creative, and defiantly apathetic of this world. But, he is very human in his own way. IDW Prowl is selfish, yet not. He is a unique in that aspect because most people make decisions like his for the sole reason of benefiting themselves. But Prowl’s sole reason of existing is to create PEACE. 

Peace. Peace can only be done when people are complacent, happy, and satisfied. When things are stationary. Stable. 

But life is never stable. Elements desire to form bonds, yet are almost always leaning towards to instability... Prowl’s form of PEACE is a world where there is no fighting. But everything sentient requires to fulfill its desires. As long as there is desire, people will fight. 

A world of PEACE would be a world of full control, there are no surprises, no change. Safety, routines, and constants. No creativity, no development... nothing. stagnant. 

But I must admire Prowl’s tenacity and dedication to this world! 

He sacrifices everything for the sake of the directive, preserve cybertron, PEACE. He sacrifices his morals (Robot Gets Bullied By a Human), his dignity (Recent News, Cop Accepts Orgy For The Means of Establishing Peace, his body (Recent News, Cop gets Molested by A Spider for The Autobot Cause), and of course, thousands of lives (Not Recent News). :D Prowl respects and understands that there will always be chaos and instability, and he is so very flexible around it all! He literally can maximize everything and anything he has. He is the embodiment of consequentialism with a lil dash of politics. I wish my group project members were 1% as productive as him! Prowl tries to put everything black and white, and he gets upset when things get far more tricky, and wants to get everything in control so people can stay safe and remain in peace and not fight! And that’s a respectable goal! Control can be good, it means one understands and is able to retain themselves and the thing they are controlling. But Prowl doesn’t want to accept that there are things out of his control. And Prowl likes to think he’s justified when he controls the uncontrollable. 

I mean, yeah, if he didn’t do what he did, the autobots would have been six feet under A LOT EARLIER. Optimus is not a good leader, preserving organic life over his own soldiers? Psh. Look at Spike, he’s got valid points and can I understand why he left the ‘bots. Prowl’s probably thinking everyday, DAMN, OP, WHY R U SO DUMB. LISTEN WE NEED TO FEED OUR SOLDIERS AND PRIORITIZE OUR SPECIES LIVES INSTEAD OF THIS FUCKING CARBON BASED CIRCLE. HELLO??? And literally Prowl could have been like I’m gonna get ya assassinated so I CAN HAVE IT MY WAY. But Prowl was BORN for the RULES. To follow, to MAKE PEACE. Killing the prime figurehead is against that, even if it would make his life way easier! (hence, not that selfish and also sad that your life is the rules. That’s a short leash, but he makes due)

Honestly I feel bad for Prowl. Must suck to be so big brain that everyone hates you when you say the truths (but also you could learn some more tricks from Jazz to be nicer and hide the truth, but that’s scary because a nicer prowl means more people he can trick and use. Thanks Prowl for being so straightforward! Now people can avoid you easier). He's so straightforward about things that need to be done, he’s in constant denial about the grey area of life!

That’s why when Spike slapped Prowl with reality slaps, Prowl lost some of his shit. Remember, nearly everyone had the edgy depressed time in their teens or young adult years where you realize the world is truly unfair and nothing is black and white? Yeah. Slap that on a 6+ million year old robot with a battle computer and is capable of big brain CPU-age, and was literally built for the sole purpose of enforcing rules and making peace? And no one really cared about Prowl enough to understand him and his background. So Prowl goes through his angst moment alone with his huge titties, frustrated. THIS. IS. WHY. YOU. COMMUNICATE. YA DINGUS. 

Prowl doesn’t become a school shooter like Pharma cuz hes got bigger brain and a lot more power and control over himself, but he literally becomes Shadow The Hedgehog (Even if the world’s against me I’ll fight like I’ve always have). HE’S GONE ROGUE. MA’AM, SIR, THE FUCKING OREO COOKIE HAS TRANSFORMED AND ROLLED OUT.  like. OP was the one thing holding prowl back, which was good! But now prowl’s on the roll and bumblebee is too nice and passive to hold him back. + the bombshell brainwash? feels so bad. being prowl sucks. because Prowl is a necessary evil. 

At least he’s wonderfully blunt about his goal to create a peaceful cybertron, which makes it easier if you want to avoid him or smth. meanwhile you have fake people IRL that smile their way through and then slit your throat and you won’t even know it was them (hey jazz, no offense, but that’s what spec ops does). Fakers are the scariest enemy, but Prowl is still a threat, just not as big as a someone who fluffs you up on a balloon and then pops it. Prowl would just be like, hey, you’re really useful, come over here in my white van i wanna show you something and then maybe you get destroyed. But hey! You were the one with the highest chance of surviving compared to other people! Isn’t that great? You’re so skilled WOW. (Prowl gets punched. Again!) Prowl represents the necessary evil in society. We WILL ALWAYS HAVE EVIL people in this world. But Prowl is a far better evil than people who do evil for their own selfish reasons. It’s like how we have law enforcers and politicians . It’s basically giving them legal rights to do illegal things (lmao). BUT we need them regardless. We need those people to get their hands dirty, possibly killed, so that people can live in innocence and peace. 

I don’t think Prowl ever realized that he was a necessary evil, and when Spike showed him that, he was bitter. But he accepted it. Which I respect because most people can’t be bothered to understand themselves and just throw themselves in denial, and point fingers for their flaws. Prowl sucks up and understands who he is, and he makes the best of it to achieve his goal.  I mean, honestly? Prowl is probably a miracle worker. Not in a Ratchet sense. But look at the way modern governments run, nothing gets done, everything is stalled because no one has the guts to make sacrifices. Prowl would have gotten a shit ton of things done, man, and take quick efficient action. Even if he sacrifices many things for it.  (Warning. I do not condone any taking of lives, NO ONE has the right to judge whenever a person should live or die.)  Prowl reminds me of 秦始皇 (Qin Shi Huang), the king who unified China and sacrificed millions to make the Great Wall, canals, and road systems that last to this day. If it wasn’t for these accomplishments, China wouldn’t have been what it is today. Was it a good thing? For the future residents of China? Hell yeah. But the costs? Those are sins that can never be erased, and they are horrible and shouldn't be done ever again. Was it necessary? Perhaps. But that’s another discussion. Is Prowl evil? Depends on your definition of evil. Perhaps he’s justified, perhaps in his world, he’ll go down as the Qin Shi Huang of the Cybertronians. Regardless, Prowl like Pharma, is an EXCELLENT example to study on public ethics, and administrative officials should analyze him and learn from his mistakes and sins.  I think Prowl is not evil in a sense that he wishes to harm others, but evil in a sense of his apathy. Prowl is a necessary component to a functional society (someone to plot, to use people, to enforce rules even if some are sacrificed, someone who can get their hands dirty). He lives a terrible and sad fate, and I do not wish ANYONE to live a life like Prowl’s or look up to Prowl. Yes, he’s so clever and brilliant, but that kind of power will make you the loneliest person on Earth.

Thanks Prowl for taking the entire load of sin on your shoulders! Big MVP! You get nothing from the world except hate and contempt.  I would go on about him more but I have IRL stuff to do. I love Prowl as an example to tell people that MODERATION. COMMUNICATION. AND COMPASSION are important factors to have a healthy and good mental state. Prowl is the perfect example of someone who doesn’t want to empathize (haha so many people are like this today), who doesn’t want to try to use more braincells and friends help to make better plans that are more moderate and not extreme, and who doesn’t want to talk to anyone thinking its a waste of time or have difficulty explaining things.  BUT I LOVE G1 PROWL because he has far more patience and manners, and doesn’t take a darker, route for his goals. awhohdohd he’s baby,,, i wish all cops had patience and manners and in general open-minded yet cautious enough not to be taken advantage of,,,, perhaps then we wouldn’t have so much polarization and fighting with authority in this world.... 

uwuwwuwuwuw they did prowl so dirty in idw WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ;____;   Again, you are welcome to disagree or agree! I wrote this really quickly so I’m sure there will be points that could be clarified or edited. Prowl’s really complicated and I do not like to talk about current IRL problems, but Prowl represents a lot of problems in society. And I think it’s critical if we try to look at both perspectives to get an understanding on WHY people do these things, and is there a solution to AVOID making those same mistakes? There’s a couple of controversial things in this short essay I wrote, esp. about cops IRL. So feel free to have at it! Or ignore it! Whichever is more comfortable for you! Thanks for coming to my ted talk! Again, Prowl is a bad influence and a sorrowful life to live. please do not try to be like prowl. xD I won’t intrude on you if you do, because you have a right to live the life you want as long as you’re not hurting other people’s interests and wellbeing!

like, I get why op had him give that speech - to prevent the cons from trying to free megs again/thinking that he was being coerced into things (ironic considered he WAS coerced into giving that speech) - but it’s kinda the easy way our for megatron - being able to completely abandon the decepticon cause and not deal with it at all, and start over anew as an autobot

it would've been a lot harder to remain a con and try to reform what he has broken in the decepticon movement - but I think that would've been really interesting

though from a writing logistics standpoint, I get why jro didn't go for that bc we don't get a lot of other decepticons in the cast for that to work, and also megatron still definitely DOES have to face down all his mistakes w/the decepticons w/the djd and overlord and whatnot

anyways. I cant believe that all megatron had to do to join the lost light was make ONE speech denouncing the decepticons. like, they should've at least had him do a tiktok dance too or something, just to make it a really tough deal

anywho. i have more thoughts that are less, uh, emotion-based. i might be biased cos im a magnus & impactor stannie. but theres a lot of stuff i can talk about that arent about that.

i liked the lighting! the animation, for the most part too, is pretty good. aside from like, the face acting, which i found to be rather stiff, and some bits of jank. it’s a little weird how much more, “anime” or as i say, handsome, some face models are compared to others?? feels a bit inconsistent. but the visuals in general i found to be alright!

music’s solid too. coulda done with more synth but. i always like more synth.

bumblebee’s annoying. even past his intro and going through the series. thankfully’s he’s not Too important.

wheeljack and ratchet are EXES. this matters to me.

moonracer was done dirty.

elita and optimus’ relationship wasn’t As hetero-cringe as i expected, but still not the best. i think elita really shines towards the end, Specifically when she’s Not constantly hovering around optimus offering advice he doesn’t listen to. it’s a waste! i think having her be more offense-focused & optimus be more defense-focused instead of what they are in the show would’ve improved it a bit. like, when elita is commanding, when she’s being listened to? she really shines. but that only happens towards the end, which sucks.

what else... oh! JETFIRE.

i like his arc! but i feel like his start was weird. i dont think they set it up well enough, especially since he was needlessly kinda cruel. if they just toned him down and emphasized more of like, his desire for honor, it woulda been fine. 

basically if jetfire was more like dinobot it wouldve been good LMAO

I've been working on this for a long while and I kinda like it? It's mostly so I can get some writing done and play around with changing perspectives. It has my humor in it, that may have made it worse though lmao.

“Woohoo! I win!”

Jack rolls his eyes, handing the controller over to Raf who sat patiently watching the other two’s round. Miko fist pumps the air, bragging rights having been awarded. Shamelessly jumping off the couch and playing air guitar, making sounds to match her frivolous strumming. Jack huffs in annoyance.

“Okay okay, you're up against Raf next-”

The sound of the ground bridge being activated reverberates throughout the base, two bots emerging from the blue and green vortex. Bulkhead and Bee were back from a scouting mission in record time. Miko wasted no time with her new bragging rights,racing to the railing and leaning dangerously over it.

“Bulk! I beat Jack!”

“Ugh..” Jack rolled his eyes in response.

“Be there in a second Miko, I gotta go pick up Y/N.”

And he quickly shifted into his alt mode and left skid marks from how fast he left, causing Ratchet to groan in the background. The three humans and ‘Bee all stood in confusion as the green car raced out of base. 

“Wow.. He seemed like he was in a hurry..”

Jack commented offhandedly, watching Raf load the next round. Miko shared a glance towards Jack, both thinking the same thing.

Miko roughly grabbed the two boy's arms, pulling them towards her. All three of them hunched over. “You thinking what I'm thinking?”

“You wanna do it now? Now now?”

“Yes! You see the way Bulk acts, and the way Y/N acts!?”

Raf then spoke up, “Uh but why do.. This? Why not just talk to her?”

Miko huffed. “Because he won't do it on his own! We just gotta give him that push! That and I'm tired of Bulk sighing when we hang out! I wanna crush dunes but Bulk's too busy crushing on Y/N!” Miko whispered exasperatedly. “

“Okay okay,” Jack runs a hand over his face and sighs. “What are we gonna do?”

Miko chuckles. 

“More like what am I gonna do!”

*Y/N POV*

Bulk and I have been chatting for half an hour now, making our way towards the base... While I liked talking to him, I couldn't wait to get out of his alt mode. It's not that I hate him, It's that I like him. Really like him. To the point that I can't stand being around him without blushing or stuttering and making a complete fool of myself. I've been able to have short conversations with him, but after a while I start thinking of my crush and I get blushy. Last time I told him I was sick and ended up with him worried over me... I didn't want to avoid him, but I'm not good at lying either. So I came up with the best solution.

Avoid him.

“What'chya thinking about? You’re quiet..”

Or at least trying to.

“N-nothing really, just thinking about what the other's a-are doing right now.”

Nice save dipstick.

“I'm sure Miko's causing a riot.” He said with a deep chuckle that I love so much...

“As usual.” I commented, both of us laughing. I loved being able to make him laugh, it makes my heart swell with pride and leaves me glowing for the rest of the day when I hear his gravelly laughed... Oh no, I can feel my face and ears getting red. Look for a distraction-

“Oh look we're here.” I interrupted abruptly, opening the door myself before he could even get stopped. 

“Woah...” I heard Bulk say before the familiar sounds of him transforming followed. Bee's voice beeped out towards Bulk, but I didn't stay behind to find out what he said. I hurried up the stairs to the platform the other humans stayed at most of the time. I had to distract myself from my beating heart, it feels like it's coming out of my throat. The kids were all sitting on the couch muttering to themselves. Miko noticed me first, poking her head up from the small huddle with the other's.

“Hey Y/N! Just the person I was looking for!” Miko jumped up.

“R-really?” I'm going to blame my stutter on a dry mouth and not my heart being caught in my throat. 

“Yep! Ya wanna go dune crushing with me and Bulk?” She exclaimed, louder than usual. That got Bulk's attention from across the room, and although I was internally cringing, he had already noticed and made his way over. I swallowed thickly and averted my gaze from my approaching crush. 

“Y/N's coming?” Me and Bulk met eyes. It was too late now, saying no would make it awkward. I smiled to cover the fact that my face has been heated since I got here.

“Uh yeah, I'm ready!” 

“Great!” Miko jumped with joy. I could feel my face get heated at the thought, it's fun getting to ride around with them. I could hardly contain my excitement, but the nerves soon followed. Hopefully it won't be awkward with Miko there, right?

“Well? Let's go!” Miko grasped my wrist, practically pulling me down the stairs. I nearly tripped from the force of her, and nearly landed at Bulk's pedes.

“You okay?” Bulk’s servos came down enough for me to reach. My face reddened from the contact, I hurriedly yanked my hand away.

“Yeah, I'm good...” 

“Heh sorry 'bout that, I'm pumped!” Miko fist pumps, she's always excited to ride the dunes even though she's done it a bazillion times. Although she wore a peculiar smirk.. Before I could question any further Bulk had transformed into his alt mode, his passenger door opening as well as the back door. Miko made a move for the back, hoping in with the door closing behind her.. She usually takes shotgun.. There's something odd-

“Ya getting in slowpoke?!”

“Uh, y-yep!”

I sat in the front, rubbing the sweat off my palms onto my jeans. The door closes, and we make our way through the ground bridge, blue and green swirls shining inside Bulk's alt mode. On the other side is sand, sand, and more sand. As well as some hills, made of sand.. Have I mentioned there's sand? Finally, Miko speaks up.

“We're here-... oh looks like I forgot something. I'll just go find it and be right back!”

“Want us to come with you?” Bulk questioned through the speakers, but Miko was already out and closing the back door.

“Nah that's alright, you two go ahead without me. I'll be right back!”

“.. Okay.” Miko ran back through the ground bridge, throwing a wave over her shoulder before she disappeared. The portal closed behind her. Leaving me and Bulk alone... together… I reluctantly spoke up to try and help the situation. 

“So.. what's up with Miko?”

“I.. don't know.. She's been acting like this for a while now, heh.”

I was in shock. Miko, Bulk's number 1 fan and best friend, being distant? That is odd and highly unlikely.

“Really? You think so?” Bulk snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Huh?”

“What you just said?” Oh, I-... I said it out loud. I mentally facepalmed, hopefully I don't do that out loud too. I nodded and stammered out a reply.

“Well, yeah. She looks up to you a lot. I don’t see why she'd want to be distant from y-you. You're amazing... uh to her.”

The car was silent afterward. Keeping my head down turned away from the mirrors. Of course I made it awkward, this is why I don't stay around him. I accidentally speak my mind, and I can't be around him if my mind starts to drift... My head drooped, I've got no chances being with him if I stay this awkward. He'd like someone more outgoing and able to keep up with him. And especially not human.

“Thanks.”

I glanced up, Bulk had a soft expression on his helm. His audial seems to be stuck in the back of his throat when he opens his mouth to speak just to close it seconds later. I gave his mirrors a quizzical look.

“You.. Okay?” When he didn't answer, I took it as a sign to continue. “I'm sure if you just talk to her you'll both sort this out. Nothing could break the Wrecker duo up.”

His chuckles sounded through his speakers at that, but went silent again. He seemed to be lost in thought before he spoke up.

“Yeah, you're right... Can.. I ask you something?”

“Uh yeah, sure.”

“... Why.. have you been avoiding me?”

He questioned bluntly, my face flushed from embarrassment from him realizing. What if I came off rude?

"I'm.. sorry.." I was clueless as to why I was apologizing, or what I should say to him. I really didn’t mean to hurt his feelings but at the same time I’m afraid of confessing mine.

"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have sprung it up on you and..”

Bulk being so bashful and remorseful made a pang of guilt rush through me. He’d ranted and apologized multiple times without stopping. I had to say something.

“No no, you deserve an explanation. Uh…” I felt myself drawing a blank, admitting to why I was avoiding him also meant admitting to my feelings… Judging by the way I made him feel, I had to. If just to make him feel better. My voice wavered.

“I.. like you Bulk. A lot…. I’m sorry I’ve been avoiding you, I just… have the biggest crush on you that I couldn’t be around you.” I chuckled dryly. “It’s not the most sound logic, but I didn’t know what else to do. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship…” I sighed, knowing it was already ruined now. Everything would be awkward from here on out and I would never live it down just to live a miserable life infinitely embarrassed-

“Oh..” His response making my nerves worse. I could kill Miko for leaving me. 

“I like you too..” 

I visibly flinched back as if getting stabbed, feeling flutters within my chest. “W-wha- Really?” 

Instead of answering his passenger side door opened, beckoning me out. I stepped out and backed up to give him room to transform, my head down turned in embarrassment all the while. I heard his metal plates shift and move before a shadow was cast over me, I fixed my gaze at his pedes. Bulk’s deep voice hummed out.

“Y/N, I like you too…” Before I could react his servos curled beneath my legs and carefully brought me up to his helm. I found the courage to meet his optics, searching for any hint of a joke. But there was nothing but affection and an adorable heat on his helm. He awkwardly coughed into his other servos, breaking eye contact to hide his heated helm. I was close enough to reach for his helm, embracing what my arms could reach. His other servos covered my back, shielding me from the harsh rays sun of the desert sun. 

We stayed like that until I let go, leaning back enough to see his face. His helm matched mine, completely heated and blushing. I couldn’t help but giggle, my chest feeling lighter ever since finding out my feelings were returned. I had to sit, else my wobbling legs buckle beneath me. I watched my legs dangle from my position, steering clear of meeting his optics. 

“This will.. Be… different…” He spoke up, already knowing what he referred to. 

“Yeah,” I whispered, leaning back into his servos and sighing out loud with my hands resting on my stomach. He sighed as well, neither of us knowing what to do or say. Instead, we both sat contently. After so long of holding it all in, and being without my best friend, I couldn’t hold my thoughts in anymore.

“I don’t mind, I really care for you ‘Bulky.” I didn’t care to raise up, already knowing his helm would be stained blue permanently. After a while, he chuckled and ran a digit over my head as gentle as my giant could be.

“I care for you too.”

Jro does this thing in mtmte/LL that I've only ever really seen done to this degree by one other author- I recall what must be at this point a VERY old post by Andrew hussie talking about Homestuck where he discusses the concept of "retroactive foreshadowing" and I'm uncertain if there's a more formally accepted word for this or not but I like it and I'm going to use it, but- he does this thing where he throws in random shit in his writing to add to the lore, and then comes up with a reason for it to exist later. It SOUNDS kind of lazy but like. Try to do it, it's not easy to do without looking like you're just making shit up as you go.

So like, most people have read jro's big post idw interview where he talks about the original rewind1 intention at this point, which is, just, insane, but it really speaks to the LEVEL of stuff he's willing to seed to reap later. Like, how when he introduced senator shockwave at first, he WASNT shockwave yet, he hadnt even HAD that idea. So rereading it, there's definitely concepts that, in the timeline, currently exist, but narratively, exist... But only kind of. Like, empurata for example, the way it's treated in universe is WAY different in later issues than it is in early ones. In later issues empurata is virtually a taboo to mention, it's like, super bad form to fucking ask somewhere why they don't have hands! Rightfully so! But in earlier issues people know what it IS but that culturally taboo doesn't seem to exist. Swerve laughs at Whirl's inability to emote (I mean, it's swerve, but still) fort max calls him damaged- it's sort of slowly retconned over the narrative into being a bigger deal than it's initially introduced as.

But it also makes literally every single fucking thing rung and brainstorm especially say absolutely wild lmfao because I know at this point rung was NOT planned to be Primus specially yet, but brainstorms whole time travel thing is HARD FUCKING SEEDED, people CONSTSNTLY make references to things that are going to come to fruition, so it's really easy on a reread to tell jro had brainstorms arc LOCKED in at this point- like specifically Megatron mentions to rung they had met once when he was thrown at him in a bar, unconscious, and rung doesn't remember it.

But then there's like things that are significantly less locked in, they're a little more wiggly, more room to change course into different subplots based on author whim and reader response- a lot of cdrw stuff obviously, a lot of whirl stuff I think. Like Whirl's BACKSTORY was locked in but I don't feel like his character arc was yet. Not like. Fully. And then there's drift lmao! Oh my god. I really just think jro had no idea where he was going with this boy at this point at all

Like was the only thing he knew he needed drift in the cast for was the overlord incident and his ratchet backstory? Because drift is running around being absolutely wild with his motivations I'm desperately trying to figure out what jro was thinking half the time for him. I get "drift has deep history with ratchet" and "drift is here to hype up the djd and then leave because of overlord" but do you have anything to say on his ex con perspective on... Whirl??? Or Optimus prime? Or, Cyclonus? Please god let him comment on anything other than rodimus and ratchet I want to know what he thinks about all of this

Or, hell! Whirl! Whirl, what IS your perspective on this shit as, supposedly, a dude who openly rebelled against the Senate BEFORE he was traumatized!
