No, "brazil banning x/twitter" is NOT THE SAME as the US trying to ban Tiktok. The US want to ban tiktok simply because it's chinese. Y'all can cry about personal data all you want, but in the end of the day it is because Tiktok is not from the US.

Brazil IS NOT BANNING TWITTER. Brazil wants Twitter to get rid of accounts that organized/fomented the attempted coup last year - which is, in fact, a crime. Elon refused to obey the SOVEREIGN DECISION OF BRAZIL, and is threatening to leave brazilian market (good riddance). As y'all can see: No, here in Brazil it is not "freedom of speech" when your speech is a CRIME. Same goes for racism, xenophobia, homophobia and so on. I am truly sorry that the US as a country has brainwashed most of their citizens to believe that freedom of speech is the human right to rule above all else, including human decency.

What I see online is obviously far right people talking shit about it, but my God if I see another goddamn liberal talk about my country the same patronizing way I am seeing right now, I might as well talk shit about yours too. The difference being that I do not see my country as the paragon of perfection and center of the world, contrary to some if not most US citizens

it’s imperative to me that all the non-portuguese speakers know about the portuguese slang “coringar” which literally translates to “to become the joker” or “to have a joker moment” and yes it can be conjugated into whatever tense you like (“conringei” = i had a joker moment, “coringando” = having a joker moment, etc). forever and cellbit use it fairly often and i KNOW the translator won’t be able to pick them up so i need to make it known somehow

I love how supportive fit is when it comes to pac's english, it's 100% his teacher brain taking over but it's so nice to see if pac ever struggles with a word, fit'll pronounce it clearly for him and sometimes tell him more about the specifics of the word for fun. Things can sometimes come off as condescending when it comes to language corrections, but he always turns it into more of an informative moment, it's very cool :)

one thing led to another led to me watching a video about Turkish tonight, and then another one, and honestly I need to stop complaining about German adjective declensions and sit down

with the deepest respect and admiration, vowel harmony + whatever the consonant equivalent of that is called + agglutinativity = a situation that is just straight up bonkers? it’s very difficult for me to alieve that anyone not immersed in it from babyhood has ever learned to utter complete sentences in Turkish aloud in real time

look. German adjectives have this irreducible three-dimensional matrix of suffix variations (1. case 2. gender/number 3. definite vs indefinite vs no article) and it’s hell, right, and it’s hell partly because there aren’t even that many different forms in total, it’s very syncretic, the same suffix or article will have a lot of different jobs in the matrix, so seeing a form doesn’t much narrow down wtf you’re looking at, so it keeps happening that in the midst of a sentence you find yourself utterly lost in a dark wood

but imagine if the pronouns and the possessive pronouns and some large proportion of the prepositions and etc were also suffixes that just had to pile into the word alongside the case suffixes, and multiple suffixes sometimes interacted with each other in weird ways, such as emitting buffer consonants

worse, imagine if most or all of this dauntingly massive pile of suffixes needed to be in bespoke form, with vowels and consonants exquisitely tailored to each base word. in one or more of, you know, several ways (yes, both vowels and consonants change) (yes, suffixes are in fact made entirely out of vowels and consonants) (yes, there appear to be uh. dozens? some wildly high number of forms for a given suffix many of which look nothing tf like one another) (yes, i’m probably getting this egregiously wrong somehow but that fact tbh is just sharpening my goddamn point)
