Manip: Love at First Punch/ Checkmate
Sparks fly upon first sight (or rather first punch) between Jonathan Bishop who locks eyes with Eleanor "Nell" Brandon, at a party they don't want to be at- unaware that they're on a collision course...
On paper, they couldn't be more different- while Jonathan is the proverbial black sheep and middle child in a family consisting of his sisters and mother, Nell is the golden and only child in her family, en route to following in her parents' career paths and footsteps, with no room for contemplation or Plan B's. While he longs to follow his heart in becoming a mystery writer and out of the small town where he lives, she is content with where she "has" to go- her eyes are set on Harvard, her parents' alma mater. He embraces unpredictability, she downright rejects it. If there's one thing they do have theoretically in common- they both choose to be happily single and falling in love is NOT an option for either of them.
But they both have a hidden talent- while Jonathan can read people through body language without blinking an eye, Nell is overly and incredibly empathetic and can tell when something doesn't seem right in a situation...
So when a person they both care about is found murdered the following morning- they find a kindred spirit in each other's grief and decide to take matters into their own hands.
What happens when a night of passion, startling revelations and caveats as they go about their investigation, instigate something that neither one of them are prepared for- falling in love?
Starring:
Darren Barnet as Jonathan Bishop
Natalia Dyer as Nell Brandon
Summary: a grittier version of Literati (Jess and Rory from Gilmore Girls) solving mysteries in a Twin Peaks style town with Riverdale season 1 romantic drama and 2000s nostalgia/ TV shows (Veronica Mars/Law and Order SVU).

i want bix to deal with her trauma in messy fucked up ways in season 2. put actual healing second to avenging her old self. burn like a sun that destroys the empire around her while simultaneously consuming herself. suppress fear and sadness while trying to convert them into more, more, more rage. get beyond angry if anyone tries to stop her from her single-minded goal of killing every imperial on ferrix, even out of concern or to try to get her to take a break. meet up with cinta. burn hot in contrast to cinta's burning cold. detach from everything but reclaiming ferrix. realize at some point that the drive for revenge can’t sustain her and she's hollow and she's imploding but she can’t stop and she won’t stop she'd rather burn herself to ashes if it means taking just one more imperial with her

Frankly I think Alistair being mildly shitty to that mage in Ostagar seems pretty in-character for the guy he is before the massive, life-altering trauma that is the Ostagar massacre wherein he sees all of his Grey Warden comrades, his beloved mentor/father figure, and his beloathed half-brother/convenient-target-of-projection absolutely torn to shreds by literal Thedas boogeymen. IIRC Morrigan and Flemeth both comment on his wack behavior after Ostagar and then by the time we get to Lothering Alistair just fully surrenders any and all responsibility (and, frankly, agency) to the player's Warden for the foreseeable future. It can then take anywhere from a couple IRL hours to the entire second act of the game for him to retake almost any amount of it back. And depending on the player's choices in dialogue, and especially whether or not they choose to romance him, we may only see flashes of that guy we met at Ostagar before he potentially morphs into almost someone else entirely (hardened!King!Alistair). All that to say, I don't actually think it's a useful criticism of "characterization" to bring up Alistair's glibness as compared to his behavior in the majority of the game because from where I'm standing (looking directly at his snottiness about Cailan, his complaints about being assigned to the Tower of Ishal, his Templar-esque focusing on Morrigan and Flemeth being apostates, his generally pretty brusque manner with the Warden recruits) it seems fairly in-line with the rest of his behavior at Ostagar.

In 2 or 3 years when we meet Mammon for the first time and Hazbin Hotel comes out and we get Lucifer action and lore, I hope to see at least one edit with that one part of Biggering about Pride and Greed.
"Greed is like a little pet. The more and more and more that you feed it, the hungrier it'll get. But you know, you can't really blame greed. That's stupid. You see, it's got a worm inside. That worm always needs to feed, and is never satisfied. And the more you try to find it, the more it likes to hide. That is a nasty little worm, [and] I like to call it pride."

got curious and read the toms memories from hbp and i still DONT understand why the fuck dumbledores beefing with this 11-year old kid. like him trying to explain to harry his analysis even with like u have NOTHING bro.....u knew two facts about tom when u first entered and u immediately assumed he was a bully, without regards to any context. i thought the cave thing would be more specific but theres legit nothing in it to show any malicious intent. tom showing them magic in an effort to impress but traumatized them instead is just as likely as tom doing something awful to them there, theres not much info to go from there, but dumbledore seems to be hellbent in scaring tom with the cabinet and the box and warnings of expulsion (which i find laughably funny when harry and co were stealing ingredients from snape as early as year2)
all i got from the orphanage flashback is tom being a troubled child considering his background (and my personal interpretation, lit just him having difficulty navigating around people who are not in the spectrum too), got wary thinking dumbledores a doctor, showed actual excitement with the confirmation that he actually is Something, and then get blasted by dumbledores cold shoulder that made him immediately close up, with him admitting he can talk to snakes in one last effort to impress him
its just so bizarre...like bro i just cant imagine treating a kid like this. as a character dumbledores p interesting but my god please let other people in the faculty talk to children and stay away from them GMFDMGDFMG

OC Smash or Pass
tagged by @mysticstarlightduck in their version of this here! thank you for giving me an excuse to talk about Cass :)
Rules: pretty self-explanatory. include physical descriptions or pics, and propaganda. the “other” label can be used for “sexuality misalignment” (ie: oc is femme and you’re gay, vice versa or you aren’t into smashing but a specific thing you wanna do with them like perhaps hug or study them under a microscope idc)
Cassandra no-last-name-yet
Stats
Height: 5'5
Age: 47
Gender: Female
Pronouns: she/her
Sexuality: No clue!
About Cass:
Oldest living member of the HSO, a spy organisation owned by elves. The world she exists in is one where humans and elves are not really all that friendly, and as a halfling she works for the elves to spy on humans. Due to the dangerous work she does and elves general disregard for their halfling citizens, Cass living to 47 is quite remarkable. She has a complicated relationship with her technically-adopted-but-it-doesn't-feel-like-it son Cyrus that isn't quite akin to parent and child.
Pros of Cass
Strong
Ambidextrous :)
Cool scars and tattoos
Scary
Cons of Cass
Intimidating
She will never love you more than she loves her son
Scary

me before experiencing the star wars fandom: "huh bix seems like a cool character. kinda underutilized though, i'm sad they didn't pull much on the threads of her being the main rebellion contact on ferrix and likely fencing stolen tech on the black market even before that. her isolated situation even when surrounded by community was really interesting and she clearly had a lot of potential there, I hope she gets to do more in season 2" *ready to move on*
half of the star wars fandom: "bix only exists as an accessory to cassian. if you talk about her, you should be talking about him"
the other half of the star wars fandom: "bix is a flat nothing character and anyone who sees anything to like about her just thinks she's hot. i will not consider anything else to like about her so clearly no one has"
me: "... ok it's now my life's mission to explore every bit of this character's circumstances and emotional depth i am thinking about her 24/7 she's everything to me i will defend her to the death"
