you were currently cuddled against his chest on the couch, watching whatever movie was playing.

you weren’t paying attention.

but then again, how could you? its like the thoughts never stopped. your mind was way too active and it never seemed to stop coming up with new negativity to leave you overthinking to the max.

you hated when it happened. it was often something new which then added to the bad thoughts as a whole.

and right now, you were at one of your lowest.

you began to think. you hadn’t checked in on your parents in a while. maybe you should? maybe you should text them right now, just incase. after all, you never really know how much time you have left with them.

maybe while you’re at it, text your aunt and uncle. you haven’t talked to them in a while. are they even okay?

the urge to grab your phone right now was beginning to eat away at you. you should really text them. what if something happens and you didn’t get to say one last ‘i love you’? maybe you can just—

“hey,” jj interrupted your thoughts, bright blue eyes searching yours. “i lost you there for a minute, sweetheart.”

oh.

what if you lose jj? what if he loses you? what if—

“what’s goin’ on in that pretty little head of yours?” he asked curiously.

you just shook you head. “nothing.”

“really? cause you were zoned out for a good 5 minutes,” he replied. “c’mon, sweetheart. what’s wrong?”

you felt like you were going to cry. “you know,” you shrugged. “just same old, same old.”

he reached for the remote to pause it before wrapping his arm around your shoulder to pull you closer to him. “it’s just thoughts, baby. they’re not real. you’re not gonna lose ‘em anytime soon,” he said. “and i can promise you i’m not goin’ anywhere.”’

you sighed and buried your head into his shoulder. “you don’t know that though.”

he leaned his cheek against your head. “maybe. but still, you gotta just enjoy the time you have with them now, you know, think of the memories. and i know it’s not easy, but distract yourself so you don’t have the time to think like that. besides, you know your family does the best they can to stay healthy.”

“i don’t know how to distract myself though,” you said, muffled against his shirt. “my mind just always wanders.”

“well,” he began. “i can think of a few ways to distract you.”

you smacked his chest. but then again, you couldn’t help the laugh that left your lips. “you’re so stupid.”

“i know. but that’s why you love me,” he said with a big cheesy grin.

and just like that, with your boyfriends stupid humor, you were distracted for a little.

Qian Jin

Hello and sorry. I’m here again with my “catch the details faster than the frame changes.” Let's talk about Qian Jin! I'm pretty sure we'll learn new information in the next episode because of the flashback, so I want to get ahead of things a little and play bingo ;)

SPOILERS FOR S2

1. Romeo and Juliet Many have discussed this, but we will go deeper. One of the main key points in the s2 is the Romeo and Juliet theme and poster, which we now know is related to Qian Jin's story.

In my opinion, his whole scene with the poster looked very personal, hardly just "symbolism" of his feelings after losing his wife or something like that. And here I will try to explain why. Because, most likely, the actress on the poster is Qian Jin's wife. Her name was shown for such a brief moment that I actually nearly lost my mind while trying to capture the frame. So, her name is probably Chen Nan (陈楠). And I really don't think it was necessary to include such details if they are minor.

Well. Pure speculations. We all remember that initially everything was wrong with the case, the suspect in the murder of Qian Jin‘s wife after some time committed suicide and left a note with a confession. Although I can read some words, I can't rely on my eyes, so I can't string them together into complete sentences. But what I can guess is that there are two characters in the signature, and the surname kinda looks like Zhuang (庄).

So. Which character also has the surname Zhuang, who has already been "shown" in the series… On the same poster of "Romeo and Juliet", where the actress, theoretically, was Qian Jin's wife… Yeah. Zhuang Shuai (庄帅)

Okay, this could all be a coincidence, my imagination, speculation. But is these details actually connected, for now, until this has been refuted, I suspect that the story of the murder of Qian Jin's wife was much more personal and deep. Like, now we are convinced that after he found out about Cheng Xiaoshi's ability, his motivation is obviously to capture Cheng Xiaoshi in order to rewrite the past. Likely to save his wife (?). But I'm not sure how much more complex it will be?

If any of this is confirmed, I rather think that Qian Jin's wife was killed by Zhuang Shuai out of jealousy. I also need to say, for now I don't think that 戴绿帽子 is a possible situation here, seems TOO cruel for me, but who knows.

2. Qian Jin and details Eyes. We were all confused because Qian Jin's eyes were not common, but icy yellow. In fact, his eyes can be said to have three states. I also note that sometimes pupils are not drawn or too small because of 2D graphics, so I take into account only obvious close-ups. First type: present, yellow eyes with a vertical pupil. We see that kind of his eyes in most of his scenes. The same type of eyes are in his character design pictures and intro.

Second type: present, yellow with a round pupil. This type of eyes appears specifically in episode 4.

(Technically) third type: the past, yellow eyes with a round pupil. In all the close-up scenes in flashbacks, his pupils are round.

Abilities: It's hard to guess, but at the moment I don't think he personally has any special abilities. It seems to me, given his one line, that Qian Jin relies more on his skills, plans and his people, treating abilities (at least in this situation) in a rather lenient way. Also, his real words sound more special and poetic - If there is a way to reach the sky, it will be difficult to fly away even with wings (friendly reminder, I'm not a translator or native speaker)

But there is one dubious detail. OK. Speaking of gloves, he probably uses gloves to avoid accidentally touching Li Tianchen and getting controlled, which is a pretty logical conclusion after episode 8. But. At some point, while talking to Li Tianchen, when the frame points to Qian Jin, there is a rather small movement of the hand and the sound of either the rustle of clothes, or the sound of something being handed over (ep 7, 1:22-1:28). This was weird.

This may be a trick, but at some point, when it gets to 7pm, Qian Jin claps his hands. And given to Cheng Xiaoshi's abilities, we know that clapping can be a means of activating/disabling an ability.

Speculation: Since we can't fully rely on changing the shape of the eyes, pupil, eye color, due to the change in visual "rules" compared to season 1 + animation errors, but for now I'll make assumptions.

In fact, in some of these scenes, Qian Jin may be possessed by Cheng Xiaoshi (which is trite, but possible)

Someone uses their abilities on Qian Jin, they are in cooperation. This person either possess him either they watches events through Qian Jin's eyes from time to time, as if through a camera.

Qian Jin gave something to Li Tianchen in the car, and that will play a role in the plot.

The change of eyes is an attempt to show the change in his personality, but I don't think it's that simple.

3. Something beyond my understanding

The man with a hat. They are obviously connected, and I already wrote a big theory about this, if the man in the hat turns out to be Liu Xiao, let's not dwell on this, if you want to read, click on - Person in the shadows.

Dates In his intro, although there is some information, as always, the year is not indicated. Obviously, the current year is still 2021 (according to s1). But in the second season, we are not shown specific dates anywhere (even with the twins, although we can find out their year of birth by literally subtracting 19), and here. There is an event, there is a blurry date. Not specified. I guess something is wrong with time already or is this a hint that it doesn’t matter, because the events are looped / will be erased.

Player and music And probably the most ??????? thing. When Qian Jin is in the car, there is a VERY short frame before he takes the call. If you catch it... here is a player on the screen. The music is Symphony of Fate (生命交响乐). And the player does not have a "back" button, only forward.

y/n stared at the wall, blushing as she did so. Sukuna now letting yuji have control as yuji subconsciously held the young girl close. He snored lightly, unaware of what took place.

Sukuna left the girl to think as he himself thought aswell.

What did the king of curses mean by “he doesnt deserve you?” she tried not to think too much. Trying to make her thoughts dwindle as the time past. Unfortunately for her though, she could not.

Sukuna was raging in her brain, while she was raging in sukunas and yujis.

It had not been long as the sun rose, she took in what yuji’s face looked like, there was a tiny window near the roof of the basement, where the sun reached at the right angle. illuminating yujis face all in the right ways. His salmon hair, with traces of gold through it, sukuna’s eyes that were under his eyes, held a nice shadow to them. He had not moved much for his position, apart from the fact he was facing her and not the tv.

“yuji..” she softly whispered, watching him with wonder. He was so pretty.

He mumbled, pulling her closer. His breath evened out, matching hers. “yuji!” she spoke, in shock as her face was now inches from his, barely. She looked ith wide eyes, she smacked the back of his head as he “ack’ed” Grabbing the back of his head as he realed back. “huh?” he asked, sleepy. “y/n?” he mumbled, eyes squinting trying to get the sleep out of them.

“hn.” she let out, blushing at there one proximity.

“gojo-sensei, will be here soon.” she spoke, pushing him off as she flattened her shirt and skirt.

She looked down, she forgot to change.

She cleared her throat, as she turned to face him.

fuck, she thought. There he was, sitting on the couch, man spread and elbows on his knees, looking at her. Jaw line sharp, and shirt out of place, he leaned back, in the same ish position, his shirt lifted a bit showing his abs. “yuji!” she blushed beat red. “huh?” he asked, innocent tliting his head. I pointed at his shirt as he oh’ed and fixed it, apologizing as he did so.

y/n turned to leave his line of sight as he mumbled, throwing his head back. Exposing his adams apple.

holy fuck, who ever his is dad or mum. I fucking love you for blessing my eyes.

Yuji opened one of his eyes to look at your widen eyes. Pupils blow out as you looked at him like a piece of meet. “y/n? you alright?” he asked, standing up to reach for her.

She eeped as she blushed, running out of the room.

Had he done something wrong? He was about to rush after her but remembered he could leave the room.

Did sukuna do something to her? “sukuna!” he yelled out, making the curse roll his eyes and grumbled. “what, brat.” he sneered.

“what did you say to atlas!?” yuji spoke, frowning his eye brows.

“tch. What, your crush wont talk to you? Nothing brat. I never took control of you.” he snuffed out, lying easily as the boy was annoyed.

Just as the boy was about to complain again, you came back with a plastic bag. “here yuji, i got you food.” she spoke, unintentionally eyeing him again. “woah! thanks y/n” he spoke, kissing her cheek making her blush red.

“oh shit! im sorry y/n! i didnt mean to” he spoke, ashamed and looking down. “Its okay, i dont mind yuji.” she spoke, a bashful smile on her face.

“eat up, gojo is coming soon” she spoke. Yuji nodded, he paused, going to say something until a white dino appeared. “gojo sensei?” he spoke, clearly starttled as it happend.

“yo.” he spoke, “mission time!” he giggled like a child. A full grown adult, acting like a child. Again.

“okay!”

“yuji! your foo-“ you sighed, rolling your ryes as you packed the unfinished food. Packing it for later as you got on with homework.

It's okay! I don't mind being called Dootz :D It's fun! *headbonks back*

I actually don't know much about them other than basics. :'( As I've been an idiot that basically went "Okay, stop reading 6 different translations of the Odyssey and more Euripedes, and get your FIC DONE. STOP READING OTHER SHIT AND GETTING DISTRACTED!" (which has actually kind of worked 👀 I've actually been writing!!!)

But I have a LOT on Menelaus, Anaxibia, and Agamemnon's time at Tyndarius' >:D

I have Helen and Menelaus closer in age, (actually have Menelaus a little bit younger than Helen) and similar to your ideas, he's an incredibly quiet and shy kid after what they went through and just his personality as a whole. I love the thought of them all being childhood friends in a way as it's fun (basing it a bit on all time I spent on the family farm playing with my cousins and other friends. Doing wild shit in the woods and pastures. :P We'll nowadays be giggling and the adults are horrified by the dangerous shit we were doing.) Also it's funny having Odysseus being the ONLY one who didn't grow up with them so he's left out when they all start chatting about silly things they did as kids (kind of delve into it HERE but the ages are probably a bit changed :D )

Agamemnon, being the oldest and protective of his siblings, is...having a rough go of it there. Especially at first. A lot has happened. He's really trying to "save face". Probably will "rewrite" what I have planned for him and Clytemnestra as having her being OLDER than the triplets and not the same age as Helen changes a LOT of things I had figured out but I like that more as that makes it so that Iphiginea actually WORKS. As before I just kind of planned on just letting there be a plothole.

Helen and Menelaus, I have lots of ideas on!! >:D Helen and Menelaus are the definition of "Me and the girl I pulled by being autistic." If you've seen the Pixar Movie "Up" with young Ellie and Carl, THAT WAS THEM as kids. He kind of quietly follows her and helps her while she's just dragging him into dumb things. Helen was kind of a bossy girl growing up

Penelope joins in as well (and is behind some of their dumb ideas), as she's the youngest of her siblings and her cousin's place is where there are more kids to play with. Penelope and Helen are both "Go-getters" so they bicker a bit but also are really close. Anaxibia is older than all of them (other than Agamemnon) It's like Zuko with Toph, Aang, and Katara. Getting along with them but also a "I sometimes keep forgetting that you're a bunch of kids."

They're all reckless in their own way and all have their stupid stories they did as kids. (Menelaus and Penelope are close as well. Why Odysseus eventually asks for Menelaus' help being HIS wingman as well.) I wanna keep some things hidden for spoilers in my fics (How Menelaus and Helen get together and Theseus' kidnapping for example) and with how I have to plan around Agamemnon and Clytemnestra's rewrite. BUT I'll be sure to let you know when I have that all figured out!!! >:D

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! I love getting comments, so it’s the least I can do (even if it takes a few days). I love when authors respond to my comments, so it’s only fair.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Like many of the people answering these questions, I don’t write angsty endings. I considered it for Jam (I almost didn’t include the epilogue) but I love a happy ending.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All my fics have happy endings. If I had to pick one as “happiest”, I’d say The Man With the Cartier Frames.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have not, luckily. I’ve had a weird comment or two where I’ve thought “why did you tell me that”, but nothing super negative.

9. Do you write smut?

Not really? I’ve written some mature scenes that allude to things, but don’t go into detail.

10. Do you write crossovers?

No. I have particular objections, but I doubt I ever will.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, Lines in the Sand has been translated into French and That Time of Year into Russian.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I haven’t. I don’t object to the concept, but I’m not sure I’d be a great collaborator given my current writing style. I think I’m better at betaing which gives me a way to work with other fic writers.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

This is really tough. I feel like it’s okay if your “all time” favourite ship changes every five or ten years. I mean, I am a very different person at 40 than I was at 25. My favourite to write is definitely Johnlock—they have a great dynamic and are both really interesting characters in their own rights. So, they are definitely up there. The other ship that comes to mind in terms of those that have really stood the test of time for me is Goren/Eames from Law & Order:CI (a very small fandom). Goren has a lot of Sherlockian traits and Eames is just incredibly cool (and both actors are gorgeous, which doesn’t hurt!). I discovered Merlin in the last year or two and really like Merthur (honestly, I also really like Mergwenthur which I never thought would be my thing, but Gwen is so lovely), but it’s too early to tell if that will last long enough to be on my all time list!

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Corsi, my NHL Johnlock AU. I have a couple chapters written, but I started it a long time ago and my writing style has changed a fair bit since then. I think I’d want to go back and rewrite the first chapter, but that seems like a waste … so, instead, I will just leave it to languish.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I write Parentlock really well. I have young kids, so it’s relatively easy for me to make kids read age appropriate (which they often don’t in stories, be they fic or published). I hope I am also able to convey that delicate balance that parents feel—namely adoring their kids with every once of your being while wanting to throttle them. Basically, I think I can write believable kids and believable parents.

I also think I am okay at creating cases, mainly because I become a bit obsessed with making the pieces fit. I like internal consistency!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I can’t plot out a fic well enough that I can post anything before it’s done. Which means, that I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to write a truly long fic (say longer than 50K words). To have the motivation to write something that long, I think I would need the dopamine hit from posting and getting feedback. But, I just can’t see me ever posting a fic before it’s completely written, because of how often I go back and revise as I write. Particularly for fics with any sort of case—I’ll have the loose parameters of the case set out, but the details won’t emerge until I write. Which may mean I have to go back and edit earlier content to make those details work (internal consistency!). Even things like John’s work schedule or the timing of a phone call or what time Rosie gets out of school may change a half dozen times as I write to make the other pieces work.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I think it’s fine, but it’s best if you have a half-decent knowledge of that language. The only language I would use is French, should that ever come up.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

X-Files (this also seems to be a common theme)

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

Ugh. This is an impossible question. I really like Beneath the Surface—I love epistolary fics and I think I did pretty well with text exchanges in that one. I am also pretty proud of Jam. So, I suppose those would be my faves.

Was Fyodor on Tokoyami island? Speculation on his past

Hello~~

So here I am – joining countless ppl on speculation on Fyodor xD

I must say I like a lot Fyodor as characters – he is truly intriguing and complex villain, which actions could be interpreted very differently as fandom discourse proves (Btw I am totally on side redemption + living atonement arc).

What is fascinating to me is how on one side we know a lot how he is now – his morals, worldview, goal, behaviour – but on the other side, we don’t really know what shaped him that way. After all, backstory are often key to understanding character – I believe that Asagiri is purposely obscuring that for surprise later on. But still imo there are some crumbs in the story – on that I want to focus on right now.

Ofc I can be totally wrong – but still speculation is fun ^_^

1. Does Fyodor has grudge against Mori?

When rereading series this scene caught my attention:

While Fyodor was attacking Mori there is such focus and almost full page is dedicated to his expression. Meaning that his response here is important. For me his look feel condemnatory, like passing sentence on him.

Also he is using knife – close proximity – meaning personal.

After all, it is rather different from other times when we see him kill others – which have more feeling of something he simply needs to do in order to fulfil his goal. Additionally, it is important too that he planned to it personally instead of having Hawthorne do it like with Fukuzawa (which was attacked from distance as opposite to this case).

Moreover, Fyodor was after Ace for specifically finding out Mori’s skill. Ofc it could be that he simply wanted to be prepared before Cannibalism plan, but still it is a little sus to me.

But to be clear – I don’t want to imply that Fyodor is after Mori because the latter did something bad to him specifically. I mean it could be – but imo it is more like Fyodor detests for what Mori is standing for.

Which bring us to Tokoyami Island.

2. Mori’s goal vs Fyodor’s goal

So Mori’s objective on Tokoyami island was to make government understand that times had changed – Europeans started to use skilled people as tools in war and Japan would fall behind if they didn’t adjust their strategy. Mori was thinking of ‘greater good’ and simply didn’t want his country to be ruined and conquered by foreign nation.

What’s important that he achieved that goal – Mori aka most successful anti-hero ever xD – as we see in story how Fukuchi was dispatched by government to the battlefield after battlefield; and also Special Division for Unusual Powers and Hunted Dogs were established to control situation in Yokohama; and military research and experimentation on people to get powerful skill users vide Arahabaki project.

Ofc it is not 100% Mori’s fault – it is more on human nature, where people in power want more power and system which often relies on regular people exploitation. You know, just like real world^^’

But still, Mori didn’t consider how repercussion will make on individual person – that treating living person as convenient weapon can lead to inhumane exploitation and PTSD just as in case of Yosano and Fukuchi. Also it is not that Mori is 100% evil – he just focuses on bigger picture too much and that’s why he needs his boyfriend Fukuzawa xD

Okay, so what all of that has to do with Fyodor? Let me explain~~

Fyodor’s goal is to remove abilities from the world – you know, it doesn’t have to be malevolent plan in his mind. After all:

Imo world without abilities doesn’t mean Fyodor wants to kill all people with skill – but more aiming at creation of new world where skilled people are born as regular people living ordinary life without being used by government as it is now. Imo it is possible that he rationalized killing people too - that they will be reborn according to karma. But for all of that he needs the Book, which has a power to rewrite the world and create new ones.

(BSD into the Multiverse xD or Multiverse of Madness more accurately xD)

But still, even though Fyodor wants to change the world, it is possible that he is feeling resentful towards Mori’s actions being starting point for government’s exploitation of skilled people. And later on cooperating with government via Tripartite Framework.

Especially what if he was able to witness Mori’s action first-hand?

3. Does Fyodor was on Tokoyami island on ‘enemy’ side?

First off – this conflict is based on real one between Japan and Russia:

Yosano's poem Thou Shalt Not Die, addressed to her younger brother, was published during the height of the Russo-Japanese War. It was used as a mild form of anti-war protest, as the number of Japanese casualties from the bloody Siege of Port Arthur became public. In September 1904, Yosano had learned that Japanese soldiers at Port Arthur were being used as "human bullets", being strapped with explosives and sent to blast holes through the Russian barbed wire entanglements in suicide missions.

Yosano attacked the central concept that it was the greatest honor for a man to die for the Emperor, who she sarcastically noted never put himself in harm's way, expecting others to die for him. For calling the war with Russia senseless and stupid, Yosano made herself into Japan's most controversial poet, and the government attempted to ban her poem.

In both cases we have:

Imperialist agenda of government (on both sides) over territories not really belonging to them.

Strategy being more important to government than casualties

Fukuzawa mentioned that people were used as ‘human bombs’ on Tokoyami island too

IRL Yosano’s beliefs are similar to BSD Fukuchi xD

To sum it up – that conflict in BSD could be Japan vs Russia too.

It could be that Fyodor is ex-military agent/spy/intelligence officer, who was dispatched to fight in this war (maybe alongside with Gogol). And seeing first-hand not only terrors of war, but also effect of skill on battlefield –Yosano’s skill caused people being endlessly resurrected with no agency and sole purpose to fight as well as overwhelming power of Fukuchi’s skill, which mostly likely changed outcome of this battle for Japan’s favour. It could be after witnessing all of that terror was one of reasons he wanted to change the world to create new one without evil(=wars) and sin(=abilities).

After all, Fyodor is very negative on human nature – specifically on humans senselessly killing each other:

It could even be that he met broken Fukuchi there after battle – thus DoA was born from common goal and mindset. Even though there weren’t interaction between them so far – from symbolic perspective they stand for similar pessimistic values - that humans can’t do better on their own due to corrupt nature and that ideal world with god’s harmony can be only achieved via Book.

Why I think that Fyodor is ex-military? Well, it just aside from his unknown skill – he is capable very much like:

Hacking – very skilled - Moby Dick wasn’t supposed to be hackable, (otherwise Guild’s plan with Fitzgerald guarding transmitter makes no sense) and opening prison gates

Manipulation – it is like stating obvious but still - he is good at manipulation single person as well as crowds and global social response with DoA plan

Setting own information network – Fyodor has access to lot of not easily accessible information through the whole world. Basically he knows a lot, which doubled with his perfect memory is dangerous weapon.

Communication during Cannibalism arc – through requesting music in radio – it was really creative idea, which couldn’t be tracked or intercepted

Survival – as he mentioned that he is able to withstand starvation during Ace’s interrogation

Ofc, it can be that Fyodor is just self-taught genius – but it is more likely that he gained experience and knowledge during serving some organization on “wrong side”. Just pretty much like his foils - Dazai defecting PM to join side that ‘saves people before their eyes’ and Verlaine defecting France military because of wanting better future for his other self. Imo Fyodor is the same, but just on global scale – wanting to change the world for better one and bring karma as divine punishment to evil. And in BSD government is the evil xD

Honestly, i know I have just hunches – but still, we don’t know everything what was going on Tokoyami island and below things are especially sus to me:

Fukuchi POV on Tokoyama island is obscured - we got only glimpses or explanation from Fukazawa what happened there.

Tokoyami island being supernatural – well, in bsd usually causes of supernatural occurrences are people with ability xD Even though possibly that is just due to far north location, but imo skill users must been on enemy side as well, especially since from Yosano POV Japan was losing before Fukuchi arrived.

Fyodor’s age is unknown, which is sus… imo he will be around the same age as Gogol as all duos in bsd. (btw Gogol is 26, Yosano 25 for comparison)

A bit unrelated, but there is also case Tachihara’s brother knowing classified information on war – it could be just for exposition sake, but still pretty sus…

Also from thematic perspective:

Fukuchi is very anti-nationalism – pretty valid – it just would work neatly in story that starting point would be meeting supposed enemy and realizing they are human too.

Secondly, Asagiri loves parallels and foils - Fukuzawa picking up lost kids like Ranpo and Yosano – and on the other side Fukuchi picking up lost chaotic anti-society kids like Fyodor and Gogol xD and even with Mori, where PM is like new home for Chuuya and Verlaine. On symbolic level it is like one generation wants to start something new (ADA, new version PM) almost to repent for previous mistakes and picks up kids (which symbolize future) who share their vision.

Not me watching the first Z-O-M-B-I-E-S movie and wanting to rewrite it so it actually works, lol.

(Disclaimer: I haven't seen any of the other movies yet but I've been pretty thoroughly spoiled.)

Seriously, Addison "being a freak" for having white hair is really ridiculous. For that to work they needed to either lean much, MUCH harder into the "everyone must conform or else" angle OR she needs to be way freakier than that. At least give her blue hair from the get-go. BARE MINIMUM.

I'm pretty sure this is because they didn't have the third movie in mind when they wrote the first, but kind of... IDK, tree ringed the whole thing. If they'd had "literally part space alien" in the works back then they could have done things differently from the beginning.

They tried to tackle (haha football pun) a set of REALLY tricky subjects and handled it with the delicate touch of a toddler. They tried to Other-ize zombies, but uh... they didn't want to put in the work. They half-assed it. Bread crumbed some really good hints of the severity of what was really going on, but then immediately swept it all under the rug.

Real talk, this zombie situation seems to me like they were aiming for combination of racism and classism, with a small side of ableism. Okay. *Deep breath*

Yeesh, the black people are awfully white in this movie (and I mean that literally). I would change that FIRST THING. None of this pale business, they're all different shades of grey-toned skin. Racism doesn't magically disappear in 50 years, though the divide might be slightly lessened in Zombietown due to shared unusual circumstances. But the school they integrate into is SUPER DUPER white-coded. Poor Eliza would have the extra sucky position of being both a poor black girl AND a grey-skinned zombie, a quadruple dose of Normies constantly dismissing her. (No wonder she longs for revolution.)

The classism is an easier problem to fix when translating from musical to semi-gritty realism. I mean, super easy. Zombietown in the movie is pretty. It wouldn't be pretty irl. Artistic, yes. Pretty, no. They are forced to live in extreme poverty by the government. They're not going to have lights everywhere like that. They'd probably have a limit on how much electricity they can use daily and Eliza uses most of it because she has one of if not the only computer in the whole town (that she made out of an old toaster bc she's a genius). No wifi. No phones, not even old school flip phones. (We can't have the zombies organizing, now can we?)

(Heck, remember when people at Fox News were like "how dare the poors have refrigerators"? 'Cause I do. Just throwing that out there.)

But now this is the one I think they totally slept on. They could have made zombiness an a disease transmittable through bodily fluids and THAT's why Addison's parents flip out when they learn Zed's a zombie. ('Cause you know they were "irl" making out in the Zombie Safe Room during their duet.) But to further Addison's freak cred, she wouldn't catch it (because alien or something). Then there are rumors of her secretly being a zombie all along. Instant drama! Total social annihilation. Her only friend from Before is Bree because she's ride-or-die with her bestie. (And then there's the extra Drama of Bree totally crushing on Bonzo but not ready to become a zombie until like, marriage or something. Whole different can of worms that would be fun to explore.) Then she wouldn't have the silly wig toss reveal because she'd already be ostracized at that point.

They could have at least had a throw-away line in the movie like "we're soda zombies, we're not contagious or anything". (Soda? sorta? Get it? *ducks flying tomatoes*)

And I KNOW I'm watching this with an Adult lens, but... Come on. This is some early-2000s era weak attempt at allegory. Kids today could handle a little more nuance then back in my day.

Then Bonzo, Eliza, and Zed spending time in Zombie Containment (COMPELETLY glossed over, thanks Disney) is actually like, a quarantine thing where they're poked and prodded and studied like animals while the Normies "troubleshoot" their Z-bands.

Z-bands could have been more than just a deus ex machina. Imagine: they need them in order to literally function as people, BUT the bands a) are issued and maintained by the US government, and b) were issued 30 years ago. The technology is outdated and failing, and frankly only one bad bump away from completely giving up the ghost. And Zed, the himbo, decides he wants to play football.

And if we're going for more realism (which I am), Zed should have really screwed up his body. Not "ow my arm hurts" but, like, Iron Man 2 "my life-saving equipment is also killing me". Temporarily altering his genetic code to pass as human needed some real consequences. Yes, it messed up the entire Z-band system and it was Bad, but like it was just Disney musical trouble. I wasn't that worried for any of them.

The world-building in the movie was hit and miss. It's only been 50 years, not 500. I don't think they should have their own alphabet/language. Slang, yes. Whole separate language? Nah. But PLEASE tell me more about zombie light gardens. They struggled to grow a freaking dandelion in Zombietown. Let's talk about that. The land is clearly poisoned. How does anyone thrive in that kind of environment?

This is a total Twilight situation for me. SO MUCH potential, completely pissed down the drain because musical? I guess? Teenagers? Disney? IDK. It makes me angry because I LIKED it. I liked it A LOT. Despite its major problems it was super cute. The music was extremely catchy, and the choreography was fire. But it was so CLUNKY. There were too many serious topics shoved into a fun romp about a cheerleader hanging out with the unpopular kids. Disney did itself a great disservice by refusing to pick a lane on this one.

I'll probably have more to add after I watch the next movie. Werewolves are my favorite monster, after all.

Oh god most of them. The adhd hypefocus gremlin is a bitch and a half when she changes fixations. I really want to finish promise me you’ll catch me but I’ve been stalled out on the third chapter for like 2 years. I also want to finish here we go again but I’m pretty sure I wrote myself into a corner and idk how to fix it without trashing it and rewriting and I don’t have the patience for that.

14) What's your all-time favourite ship?

Again adhd hyperfocus gremlin rules my heart and mind so it depends on the day tbh. In terms of longest reigning ships it’s jukebox and bellarke. Currently I’m obsessed with all things batfam (familial/platonic obvi) and DCU

15) What are your writing strengths?

I’m really good at diving into a characters head and the way they think. One of my fave Fics, writing wise doesn’t have any dialogue or specific action, it’s more character study than anything else. It’s really easy for me to just write and be able to flow through memory’s and thoughts and feelings and how the character experiences the world. I’m sure there’s a word for it I’m just not remembering but it’s my favorite kind of writing

16) What are your writing weaknesses?

Um probably that I get really bogged down in action heavy scenes, I focus too much on where they’re bodies physically are and what movements they’re making and it takes me a billion years to write and I think I put in too much detail but I never know how to trim it down???

17) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

There’s a reason I’ve only failed 4 classes in my life and 2 were math and 2 were a foreign language. It is a struggle for me. I don’t want to have to work that hard to write and also I’m afraid of fucking it up cause google translate is not reliable. I’ll do the occasional word or term of endearment but that’s pretty much it. Usually if the characters are speaking another language I’ll mention it in story and then write the dialogue in English

Amaterasu (As Iblis) : Never mind me, that I would be alive today. So about becoming this thing called the Flames of Disaster, I was wondering about something, why does the name "Iblis" is really translate into Devil? More importanly, what really happened to the Ohkuboverse 1000 years ago?

Mephiles : Time has changed, There's nothing to recall of the world of Shinra Kusakabe, this Soul World he created would officially make it's end, rewriting it's story, retconning the plot, finding out of where would the Ohkuboverse meeting it's end on the chronlogical basis. It's world, it's heroes and villains, living in one universe that only craves nothing but death and destruction, the world you only knew once in the Ohkuboverse to reign chaos, has already been destroyed by this one person that destroyed half of it! (shows a photo of Homura Akemi) This is the person we would like to blame.

Amaterasu (As Iblis) : That's very good to hear, sir. [a vision of Shinra appears] A...Akuma-kun.

Mephiles : Hmm? Did you said something?

Amaterasu (as Iblis) : No, nothing! Not at all! I'm just wondering something. [hears doorbell ringing]

Mephiles : It seems that you have visitors!

[cuts to Silver and Blaze while he's ringing on the doorbell]

Silver : Come on out, you monster!

Blaze : Oh my freaking God! You are so worthless at answering doors. I'll go give it a knock first!

Mephiles : I'll give those two a warm welcome, when the Iblis Trigger is alive.

Amaterasu (As Iblis) : Understood, sir. [Mephiles teleports] Shinra-Kun, it's been 1000 years since the Ohkuboverse was completely destroyed by the hands of that so-called Time Eater. Needless to say, that my reunion with you would never lasts since giving birth to the Demon Weapons that I helped with those humans. So now, My reunion with you, Akuma-kun, shall forever be in your memories, and in your dreams. You'll remember me as my host. Finally, with the redemption from the hedgehog's world, justice to the Heartless will be served!

"Meanwhile back at Hidden Base..."

Ashley : Well, certainly. This is all for the best that it has to be one of NASA's spacecraft that is gotta be inside the Pyramid. Look closely, but I know something suspicious at this ancient ruins-turned facility to thinking that the Necromancer Samantha was supposed to be here?

Roxas : Well, there's always a chance there's three locks on the door. One's for the rockets, while the other's for the space transporter. Guess we'll have to find the key, three keys that are needed to unlock the door. So, which one of you is taking the Death Chamber level? Raise your hands

[the group except for Ashley, raised their hands]

Roxas : And anyone who isn't chicken enough to get those keys at the Egg Quarters level, raise your hands. [Both him and Ashley raise their hands] What? Well, I guess it's just you, Ashley, you'll just have to find those three keys first to unlock the door.

Ashley : What do I have to? Alright, fine! I'll get those three keys from the Death Chamber level first.

"Several hours of key collecting later..."

Ashley : (sighs) It took me hours to find these three keys to open the door. I bet Samantha the Necromancer might be here. Hmm? Why is the whole room gone pitch-black. Is there really Darkness inside the Hidden Base? I was right about it from Roxas. The Hidden Base pyramid is really haunted by someone that is inhabited by ghosts called Boos and Boom Boos, they compare their selves to the Hyudoros of Sandopolis, ghosts that lived inside the pyramid on Angel Island. But speaking of Sandopolis ghosts, [behind her is King Boom Boo creeping on her] where does SEGA get an idea of a haunted-themed level for a hedgehog's world that takes place in pyramids? [hears King Boom Boo noises] That noise. I know it somewhere, and who is this I hear?

Red the Demon (as Ashley's wand) : Uh, Ashley?

Ashley : [turns and sees the ghost behind her] W-What the? This ghost resides in a pyramid like this?

[Masters of the Desert - Jun Senoue]

Ashley : Oh God! Oh man! [King Boom Boo starts throwing flame projectiles while attempting to attack Ashley] It's that darn echidna-eating ghost freak! Not the smartest creature to ever think of, I gotta get out of the darkness and find some light! Maybe that hourglass switch will do the trick. And it was his Stupid Influence that made Humans and Witches becoming arrogant assholes to each other. Soul Eater's real name is just plain ol' Soul World. That's the true name of Soul Eater, you hardly understand?

Roxas : Y...Yeah, we totally understand! Everyone wants to know why does anybody think that Soul World made you a living undead monster?

Anubis : Because the author of their manga was a freaking weirdo and his crazy ass stories that he made up were never really true, but I do believe that Soul World might be connected to the Kusakabe Legacy about 1000 years ago. And for Pyramid Anubis? That tomb from Soul World, it was an ugly tomb anyway, so I had to demolish it with the powers of mine. Apparently, That weird symbol on that phony Pharaoh is really connected between the Kusakabe Legacy and Soul World itself. Believe it or not, the Phoney Pharaoh had that symbol and we took the daily basis of a toothy smiley face logo. They call this logo a symbol of a clown, a symbol of the Dokeshi.

Grim (Metal Sonic) : That's right.

Samantha : No! Not you! It can't be you!

Grim (Metal Sonic) : That Logo on the Wrath of the Pharaoh, is indeed the emblem of the Dokeshi Alliance, therefore, a charlatan in the real world is really behind all of this. And heck, Even the true Pharaoh is only just the King of Games. I heard that Shotaro the Dokeshi has monitored everything around the world. And he knows that he knew that Soul World was Shinra's creation of putting the planet to Despair, and that Despair was someone else's idea, a Heartless somebody that is the true mastermind, and his name is...DEMON VIBE!

As a Russian dude who watched A LOT of English media translated into my mother tongue, translation thing is kinda finicky element. I mean, for one, English's uses of "Sir" and "Mr" does not exist in Russian (we simply refer to them by longer first and middle names, or if we don't know them, "Uncles" or "Aunts"). While I agree that translating should hold accuracy first and foremost, the end result is still what Russians would call "American Speak."

Russian Cont. That said, I don't mind some liberties that change stuff a bit for the sake of making the translation more natural. For example, many of Disney Afternoon Shows had names changed and created new jokes. My favorite translation job tends to come from Final Fantasy series, in which they tend to translate but also add extra (Kefka, for example, was just a prissy manchild in original, but turned into a jokester in English. Shantotto never rhymed, but doing so made her memorable)

So, actually, what you're describing would fall into the realm of localization. Because translation is literally translating something from its original language to the language of anticipated consumers, however localization is looking through said direct translation and going 'okay, that doesn't work in the new language; what can we swap in that both keeps the authorial cadence and makes it so that new readers won't be confused'.

It's actually interesting because -- Let me get my copy of this book so I can make sure I'm not talking out of my ass --

In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (aka: 'that book that, if you are Nigerian-American, you will have to read at least once, so you better get it done sooner rather than later') there's a scene describing a group of missionaries trying to spread their message to a village through an interpreter. However, while the interpreter is translating everything directly, the diction and dialect he's using doesn't work. So he's trying to translate the missionaries' message about how 'I myself have been saved by the one true God', his translation is coming out 'I, my buttocks, was saved by the one true God'.

I bring up that example because I do understand the need for localization in certain cases where a direct translation is either impossible or results in clumsy nonsense. However, there's a difference between the making those localization changes for the sake of flow and rewriting a narrative because potatoes.

As of now : 26 (without counting those of mine I translated in french). 20 for OMORI & 6 for Cult of the Lamb. Plus 9 OMORI fics translated.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

As of now : 475 908 - 44 500 that is just translated works. So actually 431 408.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Hmm...I only write happy ends so...maybe a few oneshots (very few) in "Other kinky situations, BONUS, AU & more." ?

My hanahaki chapter might have a more bittersweet ending note, maybe ? (☀️🌻, kinda unrequited feelings but it's imply that it won't be for long...and a part 2 is in the work that confirm it becomes mutual)

Or the part 1 of my Twins AU chapter ? But part 2 & 3 make it all fine so... (🔪☀️🌻 but part 1 focus on the 🔪☀️)

There's also the part 1 of the one where Omega|Basil is assaulted by random alphas, I guess ? But part 2 is all about his lovers comforting him. (☀️🌻🏀🎀)

Again, at worst, my works end on a hopeful note and it's implied that everything will be okay. (or there's another part where things goes well)

Again, I only write happy ends so it's a little hard to say...I guess all my Mari lives AU ones ?

Sometimes but rare enough. I usually delete comments if they pass the limits (insults, slurs, death threats, suibaiting,…)

I don't really mind people stating their opinions as long as it stay polite and don't pollute the comments too much.

9. Do you write s.mut?

YES!! I try to include it in a natural and casual way, especially in multi-chapters fics, because that's what I like to read. It's part of life so it's only natural that it's also part of the characters' life.

I'm aroace & both romance- and sex-repulsed so I'm a little picky with what I like and writing those (romance&sex) can be a little bit of a challenge sometimes.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I never did and don't plan to in the future but you never know. Probably not though, not really my thing.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not by someone else. I translate my OMORI fics in french little by little myself. It's my first language but somehow writing is easier in english ?

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, and I'm not sure I could.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Well, outside of poly ships (cause I really can't chose between those), I guess Sunflower ? It became such an OTP, that I feel genuine distress if I try to read an OMORI fic where they're explicitly not together.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

None. Unless something happens to me, I will finish all of them even if it takes me years :)

16. What are your writing strengths?

Um...I've been told that the way I write the characters dynamics is good ? I dunno, if there's some of my readers that see this and want to let me know what they think is my writing strengths, go ahead !

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Beside the way my disability mess with my ability to write so much that I need to use text generation (NovelAI) as an assistive tool ? I dunno, that's kinda the bigger one (￣￣|||)

Translating thoughts into words is pretty hard for me so...yeah.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I think I would only do it for a language I can speak well enough to not mess up too bad ?

19. First fandom you wrote for?

OMORI in 2022 <3

The need for more Plural|Sunny fics compelled me ! (It's canon, you can't change my mind)

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Oof, tough choice. I love all my fics quite a lot and I can't really chose one so...

And so, he'd wait. (☀️🌻, mentioned before, I'm quite proud of this one and I love the Yandere/Yandere Unhealthy but Happy relationship going on there, someone once described it as the "healthiest unhealthy relationship" they've ever seen and...well I guess it fit lol)

It wasn't like things couldn't have been different... (☀️🌻 + ☀️🏀, Short: 4 chapter, Angst with a Happy Ending, the whole "I let my chance pass and now he's with someone else" but with a polyamorous resolution~, I also love the discussion between Polly and Basil in the last chapter <3)

Always there for you, always loved you. (🔪☀️ + ☀️🌻 ➡️ 🔪☀️🌻🍉 + Minor 🎀🍭, Not completed but I really have a soft spot for this fic, I always write Sunny and Basil as autistic but in this one I feel it's the most obvious, also the 🔪☀️🌻🍉!! I love that ship so much)

The door may be locked, but the window isn't. (☀️🌻 + ❓, Soft Yandere|Basil who wasn't involved in Mari's death here, Not completed but again love the Unhealthy but Happy relationship going on there, the...almost wholesome if you don't think about it vibe)

They've been brothers for millennia, why would that suddenly change now ? (The NariLesh oneshot !! Who became a twoshot but shh...I just really love the whole polycule aspect in this one, the NariLamb moment is so cute, the LeshyCat with Thory playing matchmaker, Leshy comparing Nari's size to the Lamb lol)

Also a bunch of oneshots like the Basil front while visiting Basil. (Basil/Basil) or the Solo-bloodplay & Phone sex. (Basil/Sunny) or the Headspace|Basil fucks Sunny's eye socket. (Headspace|Basil/Sunny) (A lot more wholesome than you'd think when seeing the title, I promise) or Transmasc|Ace|Sunny part 1 & part 2, or...!
