Okay so the content that I mentioned in the dead of night.

Some context, it involves my dear friend @cringeyvanillamilk's Demon Slayer ocs Suzume and Takayuki. They are a thing. They are one of my precious ships. Suzume x Takayuki a ship in the depths of my heart that I would die for.

So the thing about Suzume and Takayuki is that their breath style is Breath of the Bird. I've actually written fight scenes involving Breath of the Bird and though they were short lived, I loved them creating them. But also Suzume and Takayuki are designed after birds. Suzume's is a little obvious; her thematic animal is a sparrow ("suzume" in Japanese). Then Takayuki is actually not an eagle ("taka" in Japanese) but a swan.

And back when the Demon Slayer brainrot was at its strongest for me, I was like "Swan Lake AU but its Suzume and Takayuki." And obviously Takayuki is the Swan Prince.

I had written a little bit of the AU, just enough to the point where Takayuki was in that "swan by day, human by night" state that Swan Lake is known for. And other blurbs. Such as:

Truly, Takayuki was an ideal future king.

What Takayuki was not, however, was an ideal future husband. Though handsome, his features were usually marred by a cold frown or even an angry scowl. His aggressive warrior spirit seeped into other areas of life not related to combat, making him an intimidating person to converse with. His intellect was sharp but highly critical, unwilling to put up with wishy-washy ideas.

On top of all though, the prince seemed hellbent on avoiding marriage.

Steph, I'm sorry I made Takayuki a little shit. Eiuafharitu! Man knew he was a prize but he wasn't about to let himself be won like one though! 🤣 He burned letters from princesses vying to marry him!

There's also this interaction between Takayuki and Sanemi.

“Today is a fine day for hunting,” commented Takayuki as he watched white clouds pass through the bright blue sky. “Wouldn’t you agree, Sanemi?”

“A whole day out in the wilderness… Just the two of us… And you say you’re hunting… Are you planning to kill me with no witnesses?” snarked the man with a cheeky grin.

“Ha!” Takayuki threw his head back. “Don’t give me any ideas.”

Like bruuuuuh! Takayuki and Sanemi really would be as eager to fight each other as they would be to protect each other!

Anyways, Takayuki becomes a swan because one of the ladies chasing after him turns out to be a witch. And she's like "well if you won't marry me by choice I'll just make it so you don't have a choice." Then she swan-ified him thinking his pride would buckle and he'd agree to marry her to be human again.

HAHA! Not today, witch!

Takayuki flies away from his kingdom and eventually meets some woodland critters, Tanjirou the tanuki, Zenitsu the mouse, and Suzume the sparrow. Yes, I know Inosuke isn't there, but that's for a reason. The trio of animals (that aren't cursed to be animals) guide Takayuki to Kagaya Ubuyashiki, a reclusive forest sorcerer who gives Takayuki his nighttime human form back and even alters the curse on him so the condition to break it is to find mutual love. So now the witch, who doesn't believe in love, won't be able to break it herself.

Takayuki then asks Tanjirou, Zenitsu, and Suzume about something they mentioned before bringing Takayuki to Kagaya: other cursed people they've met, and cursed by the same witch actually. Obanai was cursed to be a snake because he was trying to court Princess Mitsuri the same time as the witch. Inosuke was cursed to be a boar because the witch wanted to marry Kotoha, but Kotoha refused in order to care for Inosuke (see, told you there was a reason). Obanai and Inosuke's curses were broken by similar conditions to Takayuki's. Although Obanai specifically had to earn not just Mitsuri's love but also her hand in marriage for the spell to break.

And actually, back in Takayuki's kingdom, Sanemi is in jail because he (as Takayuki's personal guard) failed to protect the prince. Genya and Shizuka (adopted sister) visit and Sanemi mentions the name of the witch who cursed Takayuki. Shizuka is all "hey wait I recognize that name!" Because Shizuka is the one who broke Inosuke's curse and would've heard about the witch.

As for Takayuki, he's kinda in a rush to break his curse (missing prince after all) but he's not going to just randomly pick a person to try and make fall for him. He's actually a bit of a romantic and wants it to happen naturally.

This is where I had left off writing. From this point onward, I'm recounting the ideas that I had but never really wrote down.

Thankfully, fate is on his side.

Kyoujurou and Tengen are a pair of hunters who come to the woods to do their job. Kyoujurou and Tengen take a rest at a lake and that's when Suzume, Tanjirou, and Zenitsu approach the men (thinking to maybe set up Takayuki with one of them). Kyoujurou happily interacts with the forest critters (they're too small and cute to hunt, Kyoujurou would say) and when Takayuki happens to see this, he's already a little smitten. (Takayuki is demi if I remember correctly, but Steph you can correct me.)

Kyoujurou and Tengen stay long enough for the sun to set. And then Takayuki approaches, like some kind of mystical forest spirit to Kyoujurou and Tengen. It'd be awkward at first since Takayuki is very stern and formal while Kyoujurou is loud and jovial (and Tengen is third wheeling) but the men hit it off.

By day, Takayuki spends time with Suzume, Tanjirou, and Zenitsu. He listens to the critters retell Obanai and Inosuke's stories in more depth. He'd be baffled by Mitsuri and Shizuka (why does that name sound familiar, Takayuki would think) being able to fall in love with Obanai and Inosuke in their animal forms. But that's in the past so it's nothing at that point. Takayuki spends most of his time with Suzume as she helps him get used to flying and she's a little more mature than Tanjirou and Zenitsu. Plus, she's just really sweet and one of the first girls (even if she's a bird) that's treated Takayuki normally.

Kyoujurou returns each night to meet with Takayuki and they grow closer together. Takayuki doesn't mind that Kyoujurou is just a common hunter, because he's kind and funny and brave. They spar each other and enjoy the forest atmosphere together. It's great. It's peaceful. It's pretty romantic too.

While Takayuki is catching feelings for Kyoujurou, Suzume is catching feelings for Takayuki. Oopsie! She's conflicted because Takayuki is a human, not actually an animal. But he's cool with how hard he tries to get used to his swan body and surprisingly kind with the way he frequently talks about being worried for his family and Sanemi. Suzume's smitten. She goes to Kagaya for advice and he reassures her that so long as Takayuki loves someone and they love him back, the curse will break. So... Hope spot for Suzume?

Sanemi (released from prison so he can find Takayuki to redeem himself), Genya, Shizuka, and Inosuke find their way to Takayuki and the forest critters. After Sanemi nearly plucks Takayuki for making everyone worry, Takayuki explains his situation. Inosuke would make fun of Takayuki's "dainty birdie" form only to get a lashing from Takayuki (swans are violent, okay?). Genya is going "wtf, the swan in talking?!?!?!" And Shizuka is remembering her time in the forest, falling in love with Inosuke.

More time passes and the Takayuki's kingdom, despite still mourning Takayuki's disappearance, will soon be holding a festival. There will be food and music and dancing. The perfect romantic setting for Takayuki to confess his love to Kyoujurou. The witch, who had actually been spying on Takayuki the whole time, knows she can't let this happen.

So as per the Swan Lake tradition, the witch disguises a minion as Takayuki. And Kyoujurou proclaims his love to the fake which Takayuki sees. He returns to the woods to die of a broken heart. As Takayuki lays dying at the lakeside, his friends (human and animal alike) try to console him.

Suzume then tearfully professes her love to Takayuki and begs him not to die. Takayuki has his love epiphany and admits the feelings he's just realized. Takayuki is no longer dying and his curse is broken.

Kyoujurou would eventually show his face again and apologize for not seeing through the fake at the festival. He confesses to Takayuki but also admits that he wouldn't feel right being with him after his mistake. Takayuki accepts the apology and even offers to remain friends with Kyoujurou, which Kyoujurou readily takes.

Suzume and Takayuki are a little awkward now that Takayuki is truly human again while Suzume is still a bird. Kagaya then enters again and offers a choice: Takayuki can become a swan again or Suzume can become human.

Suzume chooses to be human. Takayuki brings Suzume back to his kingdom as his bride (and his parents are only a little bothered when they hear she used to be a bird, but at least their son is married now).

And they all lived happily ever after.

Thinkin' of WOF Au for DC, but like, it's a Gothamite and Fawcett thing. (And Amity Park if crossover)

Like those are the most magical areas in the world, even if Gotham is cursed as fuck. An unspoken secret of sorts that while they present themselves as human to outsiders, they are all Very Much Not.

Which means hilariously in the league, when everyone expects Batman to be suspicious and short with the new guy- even made bets on it- they are then shooketh when both visibly relax and start talking. And half the shared complaints don't make sense!

Now Gotham technically has no Queen, nor does Fawcett, but Batman and Captain Marvel are the closest things. Not in the traditional sense of back when they were in separate tribes (& maybe from a different dimension but shh that was millennia ago) but in the sense of, they're the ones patrolling and protecting the cities along with calling the shots in disasters.

Which does sort of change the dynamic they both have in their city. If one of them calls to arms, the city would follow them. They could declare war, and their cities (begrudgingly in Gotham's underbelly's case of strongest is in charge) would follow. And while Billy is oblivious, both Marvel-the-not-hivemind and Batman are. They know they have to be very careful.

I'm sure we all want Nightwing Bruce but no. Bruce, like both his mother and father and father's father and so on before him, is actually an Icewing. The Waynes however, have a case of melanism running in their bloodline. Thomas Wayne? Only his quills and part of his back were darker, but Bruce? Practically pitch black scales that shadow his eyes.

Now Alfred on the other hand, is a Nightwing. No special powers there, though you would hear many a child protest with how he seems to know everything.

Commissioner Gordon is a Mudwing, big stocky and very tired, which translates to his human disguise as a large trenchcoat. He finds this very amusing. Barbara similarly, is half Mudwing. Her mother was a Hivewing, making her a hybrid between both. Which does ironically mean that Batgirl does in fact have insectoid wings. Though that does ponder the question on if they'd all go by their original vigilante names.

Dick is a Silkwing. Wingless as he watches his parents fall and unable to do anything despite this place supposedly being safe for beings like them. He grows into his own, and his wings, when they come in, are dark Gotham colors through and through, with the deep blue of the sky he's come to crave.

Jason is a hybrid between a Mudwing and a Skywing. He's also an animus- not that he knew that. He doesn't find out until he's dying, telling himself to not die, to get back to Gotham, to his dad, his family- And then he wakes up in his Coffin, alive.

Now Cass, raised to be the perfect killer, is also a hybrid, just one between a Nightwing and a Rainwing, egg set out under the moon. Which succeeds, partially. She can't straight up read minds, but combined with her talent in reading body language on both human and inhuman bodies, it's a near thing.

Tim is a Seawing, borderline abandoned by his parents who seek treasures and more wealth as he's trapped back in a city where the water is dark and poisoned. But he's Gothamite, through and through, and he adapts. Scales darker than the original blues he was born with, and glow shifting to that sickly white of the Gotham's Bats.

Now Steph, is a full-blooded Rainwing, and can in fact change her scales, but can mostly be found in purples and golds. Though for a short time she was in another set of colors, thought dead before she slithered out of the shadows older and wiser than before.

Damian is his father's son, but he's also an Al-Ghul. The not-quite dragonet is half Icewing, and half Sandwing. And struggled to adjust at first, to a place so different from his first home where the only other dragons were blood related. But like any Wayne before him, he adjusts, and he adapts.

Billy wasn't a Beetlewing originally, and perhaps he would have hesitated if he'd known it would change him, would change his body and the last thing he had of his parents. But his friends, his Team and new family help. And he can pass as a Silkwing like their sort-of foster mother. All six of them can do so now, even if the others look more like hybrids themselves thanks to not being the Champion. They might not be, but they're his family. And that's enough.

Aoi Kurashiki really did just support his sister as she crafted the most batshit plan for a death game he did everything he was asked to even putting a gun to her head and playing the role of the villain it’s like. I wonder if it was all a way of pretending he had control, like he mattered at all in whether she lived or died, that he was the one who would be saving her like he had always done as her brother who practically raised her himself, and that her fate wasn’t entirely dependent on whether or not some idiot she had a crush on as a kid went through the correct door

Absolutely love your writing for all the AU/5 headcanons asks. Can I ask: AU where Rei cheats on Endeavor with All Might? It happens after AM's injury, so she doesn't recognize him, and he ofc doesn't know that she's married in the first place, much less to whom

you make this very difficult for me by giving me a window of 6 and half years for them to have an affair and for every single moment of that window, Rei is institutionalized. how am i supposed to get them to meet, much less take their clothes off. ok. think. there are other fic writers who specialize in this kind of thing, surely. what would they do....

1- ok so. The fire alarm at the hospital goes off. Rei doesn't know if it's a drill or not, but she's been there for seven years and generally does not need a lot of support during something like this like other patients do, so the nurses wave her out and she stands around outside a bit waiting for the fire alarm to stop and them to go back in. (It isn't a drill, they wouldn't have evacuated everyone if it was, but Rei is on the other side of the building and facing away from seeing any smoke) (This smoke is from a villain attack that All Might is taking care of, though he's only got seconds left of his power to use that day. he quickly rushes off, deflating and stumbling out on the other side of the hospital. Where Rei is.)

2- Rei is like "huh that guy doesnt seem to be in good shape" and kinda waves attention at him, and a nurse who's passing out water to patients and keeping an eye on the road gives Toshinori some too, getting more concerned when he dazedly answers that he's All Might and coughs up blood, but the nurse figures he's concussed since he smells of smoke and must have been closer to the fight, and is just reeling from being able to see the number one hero in person. Then they get distracted and wave Toshi to wait nearby, where Rei offers to chill his water and asks if he's alright, if he breathed in any smoke.

3- They chat and then go back into the hospital as it's un-evacuated together, Rei hanging out in the lobby where he sits as the hospital staff focus on getting everyone else back to their rooms. It pays to be low priority sometimes. Eventually she tells him her name is Rei and that she's in room K18, if he ever wants to visit or call. She doesn't get to talk to anyone except doctors, family visitors, or other paitients, and most of them don't stay nearly as long as she does. It's been seven years, and she's very lonely. Toshinori is lonely too, and when he's out of time for a day and feeling useless with nothing to do, he likes to talk to a friend.

4- Rei has been in the hospital for eight years when it gets physical. At that point, Toshinori knows a bit about her family. She has kids, mentions visits from a son and daughter, and then quietly mentioned when her son turned seventeen- her daughter's already twenty. She's been there for so much of their lives. He asks if she's married, and she admits she isn't sure how to file for divorce in a hospital like she is, if she even can, if she wants to because she'd lose custody, if it matters when she's not raising them anyway. He doesn't ask much more, knows there is a dead child and a baby she says isn't safe with her there. Toshinori never called Nana 'mom' to her face while she was alive, and had a reason for it, and has a similar reason for not asking more, not asking for the other names when he gets Fuyumi and Natsuo's. Yes, the doctors and nurses all know Rei has a boyfriend who visits. they don't say anything. who would they even tell, anyway. I debated the humor of reusing the bit from candlelight shoto that Toshi and Rei could have a kid with a fire quirk, but yeah here? Rei ain't getting pregnant, absolutely not.

5- When Natsuo turns eighteen, Rei does actually file for divorce, or at least tries to get the ball rolling on that. Toshinori's trusted her that her marriage is over in all but name, but he's more at ease with it ended fully. Fuyumi is crushed but burying it all deep inside. Natsuo is like 'what are you talking about. divorce is the most normal possible outcome here.' But anyway, Rei also begins to bring up being discharged- something she never bothered with earlier, when it seemed like she'd never be able to go home while Shoto was there, and never would want to go back anyway. (Her parents are absolutely not an option either so where would she go once discharged? the hospital was her only security.) Toshinori then tells her at this point about his diagnosis, that he's supposed to be terminal, in a way. He doesn't have a lot of time he can give her. Rei says that's ok, she'll take what she can get. She moves in. Fuyumi still goes out to eat with her once a week, though Rei doesn't say she's moved in with a boyfriend, just says she's in a safe place and it's not Fuyumi's job to worry about it, please, let her do that, relax, be her daughter instead of a mother. Natsuo adds her to his cellphone plan and gets her one. Rei doesn't tell Toshinori her ex's identity. Toshinori doesn't tell her about OfA, though she does know he's mentoring a student for heroics and is very proud of him. (Toshinori is a secretary at Might Tower, he's a great mentor. Oh huh, he got a job position at UA at the same time as All Might, she wonders if they carpool.)

+1- OK THE REVEAL so the reveal is. Toshinori gets home from the SF. And Rei almost knocks him out by the door, eyes wide and panicked, asking if he's ok, if Shoto's ok. Toshinori is like "... young todoroki? yeah he's alright? i know his fight with young bakugo looked bad but- Rei???" And that's when it all clicks for him, he's having dozens of horrible realizations at once, all while Rei weeps over her youngest. Toshinori's been a hero for a very, very long time. He's felt hopeless, before. But even then, he's known what needs to be done, he just isn't able to do it. But now? he's at a complete loss with no idea what he should do.

So, your Clear Sky post is absolutely horrifying, but it was very needed, so thank you. What are your general thoughts on tackling his abuse for the AU? Like you've said, pretending he's a good guy is not the way to go, but are you planning on toning down *some* of the situations, just to give some of the cats a break? Clear Sky is a very realistic depiction of abusers, but that seems to come across even without victim number 25, yknow? I'm very curious about how you'd like to go about this.

My most recent big change was bringing Slash back into the fold, because I realized that it was actually a disservice to not address where DOTC's themes dip into Colonialism. It's a hard topic, and I'm still trying to work out the details, but I realized it was important.

With how BB!DOTC is such a MASSIVE overhaul, to properly address abuse and the ways it impacts you, ableism and its violence, and xenophobia broadly, a huge reworking of Slash belonged here too. He's one of the greatest examples of how badly WC demonizes non-Clanborn cats. I shouldn't dance around it.

That's what I need to do with Skystar.

MANY of his victims have happier endings than canon, though. Bumble is one of the most famous, bumped up into a major character and directly responsible for the formation of ThunderClan. Bright Storm is taking most of Gray Wing's roles. Birch and Alder are getting examined, with either a father who wants his kids back or Milkweed as the mate of Misty.

A lot of people will die because of him, even more will be hurt, but I see BB!DOTC as a story about victims and survivors.

Others might grab POVs here and there, but as a response to canon which I feel is Clear Sky's story told in many parts, I center this rewrite around Thunder Storm. The path of kindness he marches down, with love and with anger, and the people he helps.

So BB!Star Flower...

Previously I was playing her as ENTIRELY just manipulating Clear Sky. She was loyal to One Eye and trying to get at Skystar to bleed him dry for 8 lives to sacrifice; but connected to Thunderstar over recognizing him as a victim who deserves her idea of justice. So, she offers Thunderstar the final kill, so her father will be grateful to him and he'll get power AND the death of his abuser.

(When Thunderstar looks upon Skystar, pathetic and neutralized down to one life, he thinks about the collateral damage that will descend upon the forest if he accepts the deal. He decides that he has found the line between Justice and Justification. Of course he wants the power to make his enemies cower, protect his people, and eliminate Clear Sky so he never threatens them again; that's not the problem.

He can still do these things. He wouldn't NEED the power of a war god to do so.

But if One Eye returns, he will be endlessly hungry, ruthlessly dedicated to revenge, and set out to devour the whole forest. Everything would get worse, and even more people he loves would die. It's where his desire to destroy a monster would lead to him BECOMING one.)

Even on its face, it was previously missing an element. There's a step between "Starf decides to bring One Eye back" and "Starf offers Thunderstar the final kill" that was bare. This is the piece that was missing-- That she, herself, is trying to reach out to the only person who's ever really understood her.

But more importantly... I do feel this topic belongs here, in BB!DOTC. Abuse is a MAJOR theme. SKYSTAR is a monster already. He's harmed two wives in BB (Bright Storm and Falling Cry) and played toxic games with all three kits (Thunder Storm, Pale Sky, Tiger Sky).

And I'd avoid Star Flower being abused... why? Because it's uncomfortable to confront the pattern that Clear Sky displays? That in-canon, he tries to cut all his victims into the same ideal shape, from Storm to Thunder to Star Flower? ...it should be uncomfortable. Everything that I described in Clear Sky Is A Monster is rooted in the same desire for control, power, and punishment most abusive people share, he just happens to be a severe example.

Yes. That includes how he treats his child and romantic partners. The parallels that are drawn between Starf and Thunder are there because he wants power in the form of obedience. Starf replaces the son as a narrative award for his "growth" of not killing random people anymore for a while.

A cookie cutter is an effective tool because IT ONLY MAKES ONE SHAPE.

You know what's more uncomfortable? Reading canon!DOTC and seeing someone who hurt you reflected almost perfectly in the character the writers think did nothing wrong. Because of "good intentions" that were not there.

I will say though, just to be clear; I don't see a purpose in being more than PG-13 about serious topics for this project. I promise none of my intentions have changed. Nothing will be more graphic or gorey than canon WC-- just more intentional.

I'm keeping the sacrifice because it's dope. No one is taking this from me. Girl Moment: Killed her awful husband 8 times to count as 8 sacrifices and offered the last life to her buddy as a show of good will. How else do you make friends outside of high school

But I know now that Star Flower NEEDS to keep the canon fact she has very little agency, UNTIL that moment she snaps.

She's sacrificing one abuser to try and bring back a bigger, badder one, because in spite of everything, her father One Eye always made her feel safe. Even though he promised her off to Skystar, and expected her to be willing to die for him. She's followed every command, every order, past the death of his mortal vessel.

The first, and only, selfish choice she's ever made was in reaching out to Thunderstar to offer him the power of her father.

Thunderstar's Justice is a story about a Thunder Storm at the pinnacle of his arc, how the survivors of his Clan are settling into the new normal after the carnage of The First Battle, how Skystar's arrogance brings a violent god to the Forest... and the connection Thunderstar makes with the daughter of a monster.
