Lesson 76 Summary & Analysis

Simeon finally tells us what’s up.

Story

We’re in applied magical potions class, and Leviathan notes Lucifer’s unusual tardiness. Belphegor reveals he went to assist Solomon with transporting materials. Mammon complains about the group project they’re assigned to do. They rib Mammon about having once been turned into a dog.

Raphael tells them to be quiet. Luke mentions Raphael has a lot of experience mixing potions, but Raphael corrects him (he doesn’t) and says it’s easy as long as you just follow the instructions. Luke compliments him anyway (such a good boy).

Thirteen then complains about Luke being so easily impressed. She thinks potions is easy, too, and she’s interested in what kind of traps she can make with them. Mephisto reminds her she needs to follow the directions if she wants to get a good grade.

Thirteen is surprised at this because Solomon is allowed to make all the concoctions he wants regardless of whether or not they’re in the textbook, and it’s revealed he’s the exception and Diavolo granted him permission to experiment due to his skill. The Devildom is given the patent to any new potion he makes.

Thirteen complains about how it’s so unfair. Asmo says Solomon doesn’t care about intellectual property rights: he just likes doing it. Thirteen vows not to be outdone by him, so naturally she’s not going to do what she’s told. Mephisto tries to remind her again. Good luck buddy.

Leviathan calls us over and we begin to plot with the brothers and Luke.

We get a flashback to when we actually discussed the plan: Satan wants to make a magical potion with the first addition of the book he found. Apparently the Devildom destroyed all the first editions of the book because of how dangerous they were, but he’s got his hands on one… he doesn’t elaborate on how.

The potion Satan wants to concoct is Verbum drops, a potion that can force someone to reveal secret information. So it’s almost like the fire cracker trick but it actually works. Supposedly. Luke is uneasy about it, and you get the option to also be uneasy about it. Satan spins it by hyping up its other uses (Leviathan calls him out on being more interested in using it on Lucifer), and how they’re doing it will be for Simeon’s sake because if they know what’s up they could help him. Luke agrees to the plan.

Back in class, Raphael has failed in his potion making. It’s a potion meant to seduce someone.

Thirteen notes it looks fine, but Raphael demonstrates by tricking Mammon into consuming the potion by telling him it makes money rain from the sky. It instead makes Mammon charitable.

Apparently Raphael’s angel-ness has influenced the potion and it’s now a potion that purifies the heart instead… not unlike what the bangles did to the brothers during the Angelic Demons event.

Mephisto asks Thirteen about her potion.

Naturally, she’s done her own thing and everything went wrong.

Satan is glad no one else has noticed us huddled together and plotting on the other side of the room. Luke reads off the ingredients for our potion, but they sound hard to acquire. Satan prepared ahead of time and got all the ingredients off screen. Beelzebub naturally wants to eat said ingredients.

Satan then notes the fine print. It seems he’s forgotten one key ingredient: Simeon’s tears. The amounts they need to measure are also quite unusual and tedious. Satan continues to mix the potion, and tells the others to find a way to make Simeon cry. You get a choice on who to ask to help. I chose Luke.

He tries to get Simeon to watch a sad movie in the middle of class. Asmo accuses us of interfering with their group. Belphie snores.

Simeon says watching Belphie is making him sleepy, too, and Luke inquires about his sleep. He lets out a big yawn and apparently… that’s what makes him cry? Idk. He’s just as confused as we are.

We get back to Satan and proceed with the potion. Beel gets confused about which ingredients go in and how much.

Spoiler: it will not be okay.

They mix the potion with the tears and everything goes awry. In a group text, we find out the Fantastic Three are on their way back to the classroom. Barbatos has a “feeling” something bad is about to happen and advises Lucifer to hurry.

The potion has conjured a “dark crevasse” in the classroom, which is apparently is a magical tornado/black hole of death. Sleeping Belphie starts to get dragged into it, but Mammon goes in first while he’s trying to wake him up.

Leviathan languishes about not having yet watched his newest anime series yet, and latches onto Asmo when the crevasse starts dragging him. They both get swept up.

You’re given the option to protect Luke or yourself, but Luke informs you that his blessing protects him and you should help Belphegor instead.

Beel comforts Belphie, who continues to just snore. Thirteen complains about the mess. Raphael is worried about what happened to the ones pulled in, but Mephisto is more concerned about the immediate danger.

It goes after Simeon, who no longer has the same blessing as Luke. You get to protect him. No one seems to notice, but to be fair, it is pretty chaotic.

Satan asks if anyone knows how to extinguish the dark crevasse he’s responsible for, and Mephisto tells him they would have done that already if so.

Lucifer arrives to save everyone. And berate us.

Well sort of. The whole crew is here now!

Solomon is the least concerned and more interested in how we acquired the ingredients.

Satan yells at him, and he asks Barbatos to get rid of it. Barbatos sighs in exasperation at the order, claiming that Solomon himself is powerful enough to get rid of the crevasse on his own. He nevertheless gets rid of it.

Everyone is relieved. Thirteen asks what happened to those dragged into the crevasse. Raphael tells her to look up, and they tumble down onto them.

Solomon thanks Barbatos, and claims while he could get rid of the crevasse, he lacks the ability to retrieve things sucked into one. Barbatos asks if he’s being modest, but Solomon says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about (this is probably a lie).

Lucifer asks to know who is responsible so he can string them up. Diavolo urges him to forgive, and Lucifer chastises him for being too soft. Mephisto demands everyone help clean up the place. We learn that apparently the ones who got sucked in actually… died?

Apparently during all this Raphael did notice we went out of our way to protect Simeon, and he thanks us. I’m even more convince he’s there to protect him now. Simeon, overhearing this, ellipses.

In the group chat with Lucifer, Simeon tells him he’s decided to finally tell us what’s happened to him. Lucifer asks if he’s ready for that, and Simeon seems unsure. He tells Lucifer that we’re planning to head out to visit Purgatory Hall, and Lucifer says he’s coming over, too. Simeon insists it’s okay for him to stay put, but Lucifer insists, and he relents.

Simeon invites us into his room. He’s aware of what we came there to talk about and offers to make tea.

He asks about how Luke is doing, and we can suggest he’s not having a good time. Simeon is sure he must be comfortable there if he hasn’t returned yet, and we apparently don’t think to inform him that no, Luke wasn’t actually invited and he ran away because he’s upset.

We finally talk about what’s happening with him. He still takes his time getting to it, buuut…

Not much of a revelation at this point, but this confirms that Simeon is a full-fledged human now. He’s no longer an angel, but they don’t mention that he’s fallen anywhere. This also implies that he’s confused about why he was punished in this manner, though why he was punished doesn’t seem to be much of a mystery.

No that’s just my default expression lol

Lucifer steps in and offers to explain things further like the Mr. Leader Man he is (Simeon was doing fine lol?)

Yeah I figured. There was nothing in the story that pointed to anything else. You get the choice to blame Lucifer, Simeon, or yourself.

You get a flashback to S2 (now in SEPIA), when we were speaking with that mysterious voice in the light.

Remember: the voice relinquishes the ring to us in spite of it being stolen. It’s ours, bitches.

But this means Simeon is being punished just on principle. It’s bad to steal from Michael/the Celestial Realm, so he has to pay the price... even if it save everyone from a lot of harm in the end.

Is it, though? He should be rich in the human world due to TSL. If anything this should be a boon to his mental health because he no longer has to be Michael’s favorite door dasher. Additionally, we found out in S3 that Simeon is an archangel, which is the CR’s warrior caste. Even without his powers, he should have some martial ability and physical fitness, which still puts him above your ordinary human.

The Devildom is an entirely different matter altogether… which is why it’s kind of silly he’s there? I don’t think the Celestial Realm is ordering him to be there, now. It’s also dubious that they still left him the custodian of Luke, who – as we just saw – can defend himself better than Simeon now.

But Simeon trusts in The Plan, I guess. This may explain why he stuck around even after the brothers fell.

Lucifer reassures Simeon that they will help him get back to the Celestial Realm, which reaffirms that this is meant to be a temporary change in status. Simeon thanks Lucifer and us. It fades to black.

Analysis

I agree with the general consensus that seems to be forming in the wake of Simeon’s revelation: that they did in it the most deflating, boring way imaginable. This has been a consistent trend in the writing in general and I absolutely hate it, but it’s really coming through this season. There’s no reason why it had to take this long to wring an answer out of Simeon – it’s not like we couldn’t deduce what was happening already. We could have spent this season trying to help him.

That would have been a lot more exciting than the stupid student council. No one cares about it. Not even the writers themselves: they haven’t even assigned positions to the brothers outside of Lucifer and Satan yet lol

He’s been getting a lot of flak again, but I doubt Michael is personally responsible for Simeon’s current predicament like some people seem to believe. I don’t think he has the power to take away Simeon’s powers and turn him into a human. That seems to be a Diavolo-level thing (because he did it with Lilith!), and the only being on that level (or higher) is Father. He might have been responsible for snitching on him (the text between him and Simeon also heavily implies that he’s also upset that Simeon stole from him more than MC having the ring now), but the theft of such a powerful item may also have been difficult to hide.

We do know he’s responsible for Raphael being enrolled in the exchange program, and so far he’s been looking after Simeon like a hawk. Not sure how much Raphael is doing that on his own volition, but it’s noteworthy.

Since we know Luke is upset at being left in the dark and we now know the specifics of Simeon’s situation, MC will henceforth be complicit in keeping secrets from him and the rest of the group. Yaaay. Once Luke figures it out, I hope he’ll be mad at us too, but I know better.

Speaking of Luke: he’s the last chance this season at any real excitement. The revelation that Simeon is being punished by the Celestial Realm for doing something that saved MC and the rest of the three realms will likely force him to question things in a way he simply hasn’t allowed himself to thus far. It’s also worth remembering that, so far, Luke has never mentioned Father. In season 3 it’s apparent he thinks Michael is personally responsible for the brothers’ expulsion, and it confuses him because Michael still clearly cares about the brothers. If Luke doesn’t know Father exists, that’s gonna be one helluva conversation to have when he starts demanding answers.

And if he doesn’t know Father exists, it’s all but certain that everyone around him has been knowingly keeping that fact from him. Michael, Raphael, Simeon... everyone. That could be a big reason why Simeon has been reluctant to tell him, too.

But he’s gonna find out. And it’s going to be much worse than it needed to be.

Predictions

My last post has my predictions for the rest of the season. We may very well go along with the brothers’ next attempt to get Simeon to tell them what is up, full knowing what is up, making ourselves even more unlikeable. I don’t think there’s any point in Simeon keeping all this from them now. But he probably will.

I don’t know what the last trial is going to be and I don’t really care. It’ll probably be just as dumb as the trials leading up to this.

I am looking forward to how Luke reacts to all of this. I think they’ll have to try really hard to mess it up, but they’ve been doing a good job doing that thus far.

i just want to put this out there into the world.

my own personal dark twisty theory about Simeon being human is that the Celestial Realm is using him as a sort of test to make sure a person like MC will never happen again. MC comes along and quite literally puts all three realms out of balance because Lilith fell and became a human. so i think they made Simeon a human without having him fall to ensure that no one (especially a human) could be that powerful ever again.

It confirms what's been going with Simeon and that it's basically mc's fault. I feel bad. I want to give Simeon a hug. He deserves the worlds, honestly.

Also, Diavolo really needs to punish them more. I'm with Lucifer in the fact he's far too lenient. They spawned a black hole, sir! Destroy them before they destroy you, your kingdom, and your image! What the hell?! Literally!

I also hate how everyone's trying to force Simeon to tell his secret 24/7. Bet you in the next lesson it's gonna be super obvious to the brothers that mc knows and they're gonna force it out of them. LEAVE SIMEON ALONE. The dude's confused and distressed, give him some time to process something that's their business!

The lesson overall though was cool! I'm excited to see what happens next, especially between Simeon and Luke.

in the newest lesson we finally got the reveal about what happened to simeon!!

I saw, I saw!!! 😭😭😭

I had to spoil it for myself again because I literally could not take not knowing.

Spoilers for lesson 76 under the cut!

ALSKGJFJAKDJG I cannot BELIEVE HE'S HUMAN!? I 100% thought that he was going to fall or that he had already, but I guess when I was thinking more about it last night, it makes sense. Maybe this is kind of a sign that the Celestial Realm is easing up on punishments? Idk, they could have easily made him take the fall for that bc in theory he did the exact same thing Lilith did, right? But with a ring instead of the apple.

Also, I'm questioning who exactly turned him human. Did Michael do it? Did his Father? Or was it some higher up within the realm? My immediate guess is Michael, but Simeon doesn't really confirm or deny this so it's hard to tell. But personally, I think Michael is being set up as a villain. I'll bet you that's the next new character we'll get to see, and I'm also willing to bet he's gonna stir the pot and create a whole fiasco involving the Celestial Realm and Simeon himself. (This blog fully supports Michael Slander. F*ck you, Michael!)

I have SO many questions. Like, is he fully human, meaning he ages normally now in human years, or was he just turned mortal as in he could get injured or die just like MC? Who turned him human? What does this mean for the game and in what direction will things be going from here? Is Diavolo keeping him as a human exchange student now? Where is he living at now since he can't stay in the Celestial Realm anymore? Does he have some place to stay in the Human Realm or is he living full time in the Devildom?

There are so many unanswered questions! But I am both relieved to know what happened and so very sad at the same time. The Celestial Realm was his home. Can you imagine how hard that must have been for him and the personal struggle he might have went through? He knew he broke the rules. He knew what he was risking when he took the ring of light. But he loved and cared for MC so much that he did it anyways, and he ended up losing his home, probably most of his friends in the CR, and his powers. And he doesn't even hold any of it against MC- he sees them as his reason to keep going despite everything that's happened to him.

I don't know if Luke found out in this lesson or not, but I'm not ready for the angst and heartbreak that's going to create in him. I just know it's gonna be emotional. Poor baby...and poor Simeon! I can't wait to see how the rest of this plays out!

Lesson 76 spoilers ahead

Simeon's secret is finally revealed he is no longer an angel but human. There's something irking me about this new revelation .... If this was a punishment for stealing the ring of light in the second season that means Simeon was a human during the third season?.

Man that would explain why he sudenly was in the Human Realm. However, that means he had kept this secret while being there and It wasn't until he came back to the Devildom he couldn't keep the secret anymore. In the human realm he didn't face any danger besides the boogyman at the latter lessons but in the current one he has been in danger ... how many times 2 or 3? Where he couldn't defend himself with that angelic blessing stuff so of course everybody is gonna notice something is wrong with him.

Now we'll have to wait what's in store for our Ex angel boy and how the fuck are the 7 idiots from hell and their trusty sheep gonna convice the Celestial Realm to turn him back to his angelic self.( Which sincerely kinda pisses me off? Simeon seem happier in the Devildom with rhe brothers, yeah he missed the past times when they were all angels but still...)

OBEY ME! Dateables x Reader

One night, out of nowhere, you started to feel an ache all over your little sheep body. It got worse and worse and you were just about to call for help, until your vision got surrendered by smoke! Once you opened your eyes again you… were turned back into your human form!

Characters: 《°•[ Solomon , Simeon , Diavolo , Barbatos...]•°》

Warnings: 《°•[ Simeon , Barbatos' part contains suggestive themes...Also Simeon's part contain a spoiler from lesson 76, sorry to anyone who got spoiled 😭]•°》

“Oh no.”

“What do you mean ‘Oh no’?” you grumbled, crossing your arms as you glared at the shady magician. His face contained a frown, making you confused, “Not happy that I turned back into human?”

“...Are you happy that you turned back into human…?” Now he sounded confused too, “I thought you might be sad considering when you were a sheep no one expected you to walk long distances, cook meals, or clean. And you were always carried by one of the brothers, weren't you?” he sighed, making you realize how much attention he paid to your sheep form. He was right, people let you off the hook more easily when it come to chores. After all, you were small, and had no fingers, but the downside was that you were small and had no fingers.

“Yes, but both forms have their ups and downs… Being a sheep wasn't as fun as you seem to think.”

“Maybe I should turn myself into a sheep?”

“...What?”

“Well, I wouldn't mind being carried by you. I used to love carrying you around, you might like having me in your arms too.” he smiled, you didn't know what to think of his smile though. He doesn't seem to be actually interested in this topic, it was more like he was trying to hide something.

And yes, Solomon actually IS trying to hide something, nothing important, really. Just his jealousy. Like usual.

He noticed how people's eyes lingered on your form more after you turned back into human, and they always had this weird mesmerized look in their eyes whenever you walked by which made him furious. Only he is allowed to look at you that way. So maybe if he became a sheep and made you carry him around he could scare your new suitors? Played little harmless pranks on them?

“Solomon, please.” your voice snapped him out of his thoughts, “You are fine the way you are. And I was…really looking forward to the day we could walk hand in hand.”

…

Ah. He is sure he had the same mesmerized look on his face he was talking about.

Your warm hand enveloped his as he blindly followed you, not really caring where you are taking him, “I'm sure your sheep form would be very cute though.” you said with a smile which made him chuckle.

“Haha, yes, I think so too.” he looked at you with a faux innocence, “maybe we can both turn into sheeps and run to the horizon hoof in hoof?”

“Solomon.”

Simeon was sitting on the sofa in the Cocytus hall and browsing through his phone, more used to the technology now. However the calm atmosphere surrendering him disappeared when a sudden weight on his shoulder made him jump a little. He turned his head to see what it was to only find you resting your head on him.

You hummed, not looking sorry for scaring him at all, “Sorry, did I scare you?”

“Ah.” right, you weren't a cute little sheep anymore. You were in your human form, able to reach places, like his shoulders, “I forgot that you can reach my shoulders now.” he chuckled.

You joined in his laughter then let out a fake angry huff, “You better get used to it.”

Simeon looked at you, unfortunately, he was only able to see a little bit of your face since your hair was in the way. It was a little upsetting that he couldn't see it fully but your hair tickling his jaw made his sadness quickly disappear. He sighed happily as he placed a hand on top of your head, “Then, perhaps you should spend more time with me to help me adjust quickly.”

“...So~ does that mean you prefer human me?” you said with a smirk as you looked up at him.

“Hmm…I have to say, as a sheep you were very cute.” he mumbled innocently, but the teasing smile on his face said otherwise. However, it quickly became wobbly as soon as he saw your frown, “Of course, you are cute like this too.” he quickly added.

“I see…Not ‘very’ cute though, huh.”

“H-huh?”

He tried to meet your gaze as you stared at the floor, seemingly in deep thought. He hoped he didn't make you angry. Simeon opened his mouth to apologize only to find himself suddenly lying on his back. A shocked expression appeared on his face, and his cheeks warmed up as soon as your face came into view.

You got on top of him, body creating a shadow over him. How fitting, considering you do really bring dark thoughts in his mind.

“Shall I give you different reasons to love this body, Simeon?” you said, voice calm maybe a little playful, it was nothing to be afraid of but for Simeon you were really intimidating at this moment. Even if he wasn't an angel anymore he still felt like he was about to get corrupted by you -again-. Which seems to make him embarrassingly more excited.

“Yes… Please do.” he could only whisper, not really thinking straight. He shut his eyes and waited for you to do whatever you please with him.

Once you turned human the very first thing Diavolo did was laugh happily and offer you lots of, I mean, LOT OF clothes. Rambling to himself and not hearing your protests as he went around the shops to get even more, “Maybe this dress? Oh! This suit is made with such fine fabric too! And these shoes would go nicely with them! What do you think of these accessories- actually. We'll just take them all, please put it in the basket!” he chuckled.

“Diavolo, where would I even wear those?” you let out a tired sigh as you walked behind him, starting to miss your sheep form with how much walking you had to do. If you were a sheep, you could've just made him carry you in his arms…Now that you think about it, it's been a while since he… showed his affection physically. He was acting more like a sugar daddy instead. It's been so long since he hugged you that you were actually starting to miss his crushing hugs.

“Can you try these for me?” he turned around to give you the bags, inside of it was probably the clothes he was talking about, “I promise these are the last ones.” he said, sounding apologetic, probably noticing how tired you seemed. You just nodded and went into the cabin. Once you were done, you stepped out. Only to be greeted by Diavolo's sparkling eyes and huge smile, “Just as I thought, it looks great on you!”

You were kind of getting nervous at this point, he was really starting to act like...a stranger, “Uhm, you think so?”

“Yes, it can stay on you if you want. Let me just go and pay-”

“Diavolo, why are you trying to dress me up?” you decided to finally question him, at first it was a nice way to spend time with him, no matter how tired shopping was actually getting, but now…

“Do you think…I look ugly? Is that why you are dressing me up in expensive clothes…?”

“What?!” you have never seen Diavolo look this horrified, “Of course not- I- No, that's… Did I seem like that?” he sighed, “Love…I apologize deeply. I was just really excited. After seeing your human form I just couldn't help but imagine how you would look like in different clothes, but there are just objects to make your beauty shine more, nothing else.” his warm hands grabbed yours, giving them a little squeezed as he gazed into your eyes.

You were starting to feel a little bit okay, but still wanted to tease him as a punishment. So you crossed your arms and huffed, “And you've been acting a lot distant too! Everytime I try to hug you you are running off to somewhere, very rude!"

He chuckled when he noticed how you were playfully scolding him, “Oh dear. I didn't even notice. Looks like seeing you like this, really did make me…” he suddenly stopped, eyes locked into yours as his cheeks slowly darkened. Diavolo turns his head, “As I was saying…” he mumbled, voice shaky, “I'll be sure to act more carefully.”

“That isn't what I want…” you sighed, frowning. Seems like the future king is still unable to understand your requests, “I don't want you to act more carefully, I want you to act like my lover.”

“Oh!”

“Now, give me a hug?”

“Of course!”

Barbatos is someone who prefers to stand back and observe people, hence why you didn't see him much after you turned. Only after everyone had their moment and talk with you did he come to you, and even then it still a very short interaction. He smiled and said, “I'm happy for you.” with his usual charming smile on his face when… talking to people. However, you were hoping for more from him. Especially with something like your outer appearance. You wanted to see him become surprised with your appearance or something, like those cheesy cliché scenes in romance movies.

“Reality can be really disappointing…” you mumbled as you watched Barbatos cook dinner.

“Hm? Where is this coming from? You sounded a lot like Leviathan just now.” he didn't turn around, continuing to stir the pot.

“Barbatos, do you ever get surprised or embarrassed?” you asked without thinking, but guessed it would be fine since he won't understand what you are talking about anyway. Just a random question. Yeah. Nothing weird about that.

“I do, of course.” he put away the spoon, finally turning to you, “I do get…Surprised. From lot of things.”

“Really? That's hard to believe…” you muttered to yourself, “Like what?”

“You.” he smiled.

“Me??” you almost fell from your chair, maybe your appearance really did affect him but he was good at hiding? “Uhm… Why?”

Barbatos tipped his head to the side as he closed his eyes and smirked, “Just the way you act. Your personality. And how you overcome difficulties.” the way he said it seemed so…polite and kind. Which made you weirdly annoyed since you already heard something like this from him. However, you shouldn't get frustrated at him for that...

“I…” you tried not to sigh, “Appreciate it.”

“And how you are seeking my compliments is also very surprising.”

“I- wait, what??”

He chuckled, appearing in front of you in a blink of an eye. Giving you no time to gather yourself, “The brothers, the angels, other demons, and even the Demon Lord... They all complimented you but here you are sulking because I didn't say anything about your human form?” he leaned in closer, taking his gloves off and placing his hands on your cheeks. His sudden warm touch on your cheeks surprising you as he held your face. Without his gloves it was strangely very… Intimate.

The feeling of one of them sliding from your cheek, to your jaw and slowly to your hand to bring it to his lips is even more exciting, “I can't say I dislike it.” he whispers, his breath tickles your skin which causes your whole body to shiver as his piercing eyes look into yours, “If you are curious about what I think maybe I can tell you, or maybe you would like me to show you? Which one would you prefer?”

having thoughts about the black characters in obey me bc i love me some simeon, mams, and dia...raph and mephisto are growing on me

so y'all know how mammon is the only black character to actively use aave in the game? i think simeon and raph had it trained out of them, while dia just never used it to begin with bc of how he was raised

mammon was always getting into trouble with michael right? he'd always be up to something, doing shit that he didn't have any business doing, and he didn't act like a typical angel would. part of that also was the way he spoke. michael always reprimanded him for talking in a "less formal, more improper" way, and the punishments only got worse when he started getting himself into trouble. michael had almost made it so mammon stopped talking in a way that was comfortable for him, but he was entrusted to lucifer before he got the chance to

lucifer, obviously, caught on to the way he'd force himself to sit up straighter, to speak "properly" when in front of higher-ranking angels, and he saw how uncomfortable and insecure it made him to have to change the way he talked to cater to everyone else's comfortability. luci encouraged him to speak in whatever way was comfortable, disregarding everything everyone else had to say, telling him to be proud of something that made him unique

with raphael and simeon, raphael was the easiest to, for lack of better phrasing, beat the black out of. he didn't ask questions and was ready to do whatever was asked of him, not caring if it meant being inauthentic. the inauthenticity stuck, though, and he's no longer used to the dialect that was like second nature to him

simeon...simeon almost always had questions. why couldn't they do what was comfortable? what about their differences made them less worthy? less proper? due to his ranking, he couldn't be punished in the same ways mammon was for having the same grievances. simeon eventually learned that fighting back was of no use, training himself how to speak in a way that was more...acceptable to the angels that didn't look like him. he spoke comfortably in private with mammon and encouraged him in the same way lucifer did, but nobody else understood how dehumanizing it was to be told that something that came naturally to you was wrong

diavolo and mephistopheles grew up together, two sides of the same coin. mephisto came from old money, dia came from royalty. mephisto wasn't nearly as sheltered as diavolo was, having interacted with more demons that looked like him from a young age when his family decided they'd take a trip into town. he was always confused to find that they spoke differently than them. he tried to mimic them when he got home and got slapped by his father, saying that nobody of their stature should speak in such a manner, and he never tried it again

diavolo...yeah, he was beyond sheltered. little to no interaction with anyone outside of royalty or friends of the crown, and he copied the way they spoke, knowing that he had no choice but to make himself presentable to his family, his friends, and his future subjects

after the fall, simeon didn't have anyone he'd be able to speak comfortably with, and he kind of...lost the desire to speak that way. raphael was too stuck up, luke was...luke, and he wasn't nearly as close to any of the other angels as he'd been to lucifer and his brothers

diavolo hadn't actively interacted with someone who spoke in ebonics until he met mammon. he thought it was interesting! mammon thought his ignorance was a little irritating to begin with, but he couldn't blame him for having a sheltered childhood. he'd be curious, too, if he was in the prince's shoes

by the time mc's arrival to the devildom rolled around, diavolo was able to interact more freely with the other black demons. he couldn't exactly relate to them and all of their experiences, but he recognized that and acknowledged that he came from a position of extreme privilege

mc was loud and proud with their identity. but they could code switch when they needed to. early on, they only felt comfortable using aave around mammon, but he helped ease their anxiety pretty quickly. the brothers noticed the shift, but they didn't care. mc was still mc, regardless of how they talked

when they met mephisto and raphael, they nipped their off-handed and disrespectful comments about their accents in the bud as soon as they said something. diavolo thought their accent was cool, and encouraged them to to speak comfortably with him. regardless of his status, he was still their friend

simeon also only felt comfortable to stop code switching around mammon and mammon only, but even then, it was awkward to do so since he hadn't in so long. it felt good to be comfortable again

he eventually ended up feeling comfortable around mc, and the first time they heard him say something, code switching out the window, they genuinely, genuinely did a double take. asked him to repeat it. say it again real quick. c'mon, one more time? lemme get it on video... mammon was clutching his stomach from laughing so hard at the way they reacted, but also happy to see the two of them getting comfortable around each other

mammon and mc definitely have videos of diavolo saying shit and it all sounds horrendously wrong. lucifer and barbatos have to threated him not to post or sell the videos on numerous occasions, but it's so tempting and it's so funny

simeon found it funny, raphael didn't care, and mephisto almost blew his lid because they were tainting the image of the future king of the devildom-

they walked away in the middle of his rant. he's no fun. but at least they had each other, right?
