You have a crush on Simon Riley. You know this, and so does everyone else, including him. Despite the very obvious adoration on your part he's never said anything about it.

You honestly have no idea how he feels about you and you're not sure you want to know. You do tons of little things for him and he does things for you, but that's all your relationship entails.

You are both so different it's not like you could ever fit together so perfectly, right?

“Here you are Lt.” You slide him a drink across the table. He makes a face behind his mask that you now recognize as his scowl. “Don't make that face at me.”

“You can't even see my face,” he replies, in his signature thick accent. “And I don't need you buying me drinks.”

“Well that's too bad 'cause’ I did. Don't tell me you're gonna let good whiskey go to waste.”

His deep brown eyes stare at you for a heavy moment before picking up the drink, lifting his mask just enough to show his cut jaw and full lips.

“Usually this is where I get a thank you.” You taunt him, trying not to let your gaze linger on what you can see of his perfect but slightly messed up face.

“Don't push your luck, Sargent.”

My coffee black…

“Oh dark like your soul, ain't that right Lt.” You gesture towards his black mug of black coffee.

Simon takes a deep breath as he takes in your words, his chest rising and falling in annoyance. He shakes his head silently, apparently not wanting to pleasure you with a response.

“Seriously, how do you drink that?” You put your hand on his perfect arm to push him out of the way of the coffee pot.

“Oh let me guess you take your coffee with a pound of sugar.” He rolls his eyes at you, in more of an attitude than you appreciate.

“Incorrect. I'm sweet enough as it is.” You smile at him while you turn around to stir your drink.

“Maybe a little too sweet don't you think?”

“Only to you.” You mutter under your breath.

…And my bed at three

“Oi Lt, what are you doing up at this hour?” You take amusement at the way this giant of a man jumps slightly at your voice.

“Did you just say oi?” He asks as if he didn't just hear you say it.

“Yes I did, do we need to get your hearing checked?” You make fun of him for the hundredth time that day.

“Why?” His gruff voice cuts through the air.

“I want it on record that I don't appreciate this attitude of yours. And I said "oi” because I'm becoming more like you.”

“I don't say oi.”

“I don't believe you. You sound like you say it.” You shrug and take a seat on the couch next to you.

“What does that mean?” He sits down next to you but he seems like he doesn't want a real answer.

“Your voice.”

“What's wrong with my voice?” This time it seems like he actually wants to know what you think.

“Oh nothing. It's a nice voice but it just gives me oi vibes.” He stares at you like you're crazy.

“I have a nice voice do I?”

“Don't let it get to your head.” You lay your head.on his shoulder.

No one speaks for a while but eventually Simon sits up. “It's three in the morning, we should get to bed.”

“Yeah that's probably smart.” You give him a big smile when you stand up. “Goodnight Lt.”

You're too sweet for me

“And here you are.” You take a dramatic bow as you hand Simon his gift, acting as if you just delivered the most important thing in the world.

“What is this?” He asks with a tone of impatientence.

“A gift.”

“It's not a holiday-” You quickly cut him off.

“Or your birthday I know, but I remember you saying something about it and got it for you”

“How do you know it's not my birthday, I've never told you that.” He pauses for a split second before continuing, “Did you look at my files?”

“That's not important, open your gift.” He shakes his head but opens the bag you've given him.

Quickly, he pulls out a mask just like the one he's currently wearing. A mask you've handmade just for him.

“What is this?” He instantly demands.

“That is what we call a mask sir. I remember you told me about that one having an annoying hole so I thought I'd help you out. Originally I was just gonna patch the hole but then I figured that mask has been through a lot so you deserved a new one.”

He loudly clears his throat. “I hope you know there won't be a gift in return.”

“I don't expect one, simply doing a nice thing.”

“Well thank you Sargent.” You smile at his thanks, feeling how much he means it.

“Anytime.” Is the only word you get in before he runs off.

“You know this is basically our third date.” You randomly blurt out. You're sitting with Simon in a coffee shop off base. You don't know what you were expecting with Simon off base but one thing you never thought about when inviting him out is his absence of the mask.

Obviously wearing it would draw more attention than usual but now you're sitting straight across from the face of the man you're practically fawning over.

“This is not a date.” He defends roughly.

“Yes it is, our first was dinner and second was the bar so that makes this the third.”

“Those weren't dates, just outings between friends.” He runs his eyes everywhere but your face.

“Aww so you admit we're friends.” You can't help but tease. “But I'm being serious Simon. You can't deny it forever.”

“Yes I can.” He fiddles with his drink as you continue your mini interrogation.

“No you can't. I know you like me, Lt. Why won't you say it.”

“You're different.” He begins.

“If you start to say I'm dumb you're getting punched.”

“No! Of course not. You're different from me and I don't know if we would work.”

“Bullshit. Spill it.”

“Fine, you're too sweet.” He spits out as if it was fire coming out.

You can't help the bubbling laugh that spills out your mouth. “Too sweet? What does that even mean?” You ask him, still laughing.

“I don't know. You're too sweet to me, you give me things and you say all the right things and I don't think I could give all that back to you.”

‘I don't want you to give me anything back. I want you to give me you, you're too sweet for me too Lt. Even if it is in a different looking way.” You slide your hand across the table to lay on his. He returns your hold and gives you a smile that is uniquely his. This is all you need.

Black Hole: the cheeky NANANANA at the start is so scoups. the intensity of the instrumental and the overall confidence this song exudes makes me think of cheol’s charisma on stage. not to mention this song has one of jongseob’s best raps of all time and that’s so fitting imo. + scoups is literally an inescapable black hole. ask any carat🫡

Love Me for Me: this song is so fun! and a little mischievous! and the bright chorus especially reminds me of jeonghan’s adorable character so much. idk what else to say for this, because the vibe just fits jeonghan perfectly that’s all😭

Look At Me Now: the MINUTE that epic intro starts it’s hoshi coded. the power, the confidence, the intensity i can picture SO clearly hoshi in this song. even more with that powerful hook into a smooth dark chorus ugh if you know anything about the choreo for this song, you know hoshi would eat it up. i can’t imagine him being any other song than this, it just suits him so much.

More Than Words: the quiet, chill, yet gentle feeling in this song made me give it to wonwoo. this song feels like holding hands while walking in the park or eyes softening when they meet the one they love. it’s every day love, it’s quiet domestic romance, which is often the loudest and sweetest kind, and that is so so wonwoo.

Different Song For Me: woozi was honestly the hardest for me to pin, but the lyrics sold it for me. the idea that music embodies different emotions and acts as a comfort and strength in every mood. and the whole vibe makes me think of songs like circles and pinwheel which are close to woozi’s heart🥺

Yes Man: dude. just listen to this song and tell me it isn’t dokyeom personified. i don’t feel like i even have to explain but… “anything you want i’ll be your yes man” “i’ll take you anywhere, wherever it is i don’t care” “i’ll be your missing piece” goodbye😭😭 the all encompassing, exciting, ridiculously sweet kind of love this song depicts is the embodiment of dk and his big golden heart, that will readily open itself and is unafraid to show just how deeply he loves. mannnnn🤧

Wishlist for PJM1

I don't know about about you, but my feeling listening to VIBE is that Jimin, and we as a people, can only go up from here. So I decided to list everything I'd love to happen in PJM1 - from the music, to the potential features/collaborators, to the styling.

The Styling

(I never moved on from this)

For PJM1, I've always hoped Jimin would channel Victor Nikiforov. For my readers who don't watch anime, please bear with me here. I'll explain.

Platinum grey or silver, waist-long hair. Solid neutral colours on form-fitting pants or anything that highlights Jimin's beautiful dance lines. Victor is a character from the anime Yuri on Ice (highly recommended). He's a world class figure skater, a good-natured and kind person who mentors the main character. And this man is all lean muscle, executing calculated and refined movements while he glides over ice, even when he performs intense and sometimes aggressive routines. He's beautiful and I can't not see Jimin in him.

With this sort of styling on Jimin, I can easily see him switching between elfin elegance and an almost cruel and quiet intensity, or even having both energies co-exist mid-performance. Like an assassin.

Speaking of which, the flipside we've already gotten a preview of:

I know Jimin is blonde right now, likely already filming for PJM1, but what I would give to see Jimin in this styling. His hair being almost waist-long is a firm requirement in my wishlist.

The Music

Who should I kill, fuck, or marry to have Jimin on a rock song? What will it take? Because I need the universe to gift us with the one track that will reset all life as we know it - Jimin utilizing his low and upper registers on a rock song. No other genre has the range and versatility to embody anger, joy, sensuality, pain, grief, humour, like rock music. Another wild card I've dreamed of for Jimin, is for him to include a song in the Afrobeats genre (and to collaborate with an actual African artist, not just lift their sound verbatim *cough* B.I.).

Jimin on a song like Vibration by Fireboy DML will solve the birth rate crisis in several countries. It would be club banger of the century.

(Add in a reverse modulation for Jimin to come in with his lower register, a bridge, and an Adonis or two *%#@*! in the MV and it's a wrap)

Looking at the roster of producers Jimin is working with, PJM1 will likely lean more pop and R&B, but at least one song with symphonic metal, folk rock, alternative or psychedelic rock, would suit him perfectly and elevate his album over the current milieu of k-pop.

And this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I love rapper Jimin.

He'll need to work on his breath control, but he's got everything else. If Jimin has even just one song where he simply speaks over a beat, anyway he does it, I might lose it.

The Features / Collaborators

Anyone who has followed me for more than a few months has likely seen me gush about:

Taka from ONE OK ROCK,

Tyler from Twenty One Pilots,

Mitch from Pentatonix, and

Asa - a queen and in very loose sense, the French-Nigerian analog to Erykah Badu.

I don't know how to explain it, all I can say is I can hear their voices together in my head and it sounds like paradise. If Jimin has any of those four on PJM1, I'll ask for nothing else.

Fireboy DML whose song I linked above isn't my favourite collaborator to work with Jimin in terms of vocal contrasts, but I do like the music he makes and think Jimin would body any of his songs.

The next best thing, is of course either Yoongi or Jungkook collaborating with him on a track. As this is his first solo album, I wonder if he'll go the route of the rapline so far, in seeking out only voices outside BTS, or if he'll include any of the members on his first album. If he does, Yoonkook has to be the obvious choice because if Who was incredible and Tony Montana made me look twice at Jimin, having either or both members on a song with him is sure to create magic.

I've got a few more ideas but don't want to be nitpicky, plus this list is already outlandish enough. Lol.

Anyway, back to streaming Vibe. That song isn't half bad after several listens and two fingers of Laphroaig.

So I listened to every Eurovision 2024 song and here are my rankings and reviews!

1. Slovenia: Veronika-Raiven 10/10

Holy shit, my jaw is on the floor! This is easily my favorite song this year with only Mustii coming close. This girl’s voice is insane. I am obsessed with dark songs and…this climax. It’s actually insane. The background vocals had me climbing up the walls, this is INSANE. I JUST WISH THE SONG WAS LONGER! It’s so good that my only complaint is wanting more of it!

2. Belgium: Before the Party’s Over-Mustii 10/10

Holy shit, this is incredible! I have a strong affinity for dark pop and songs that build in intensity over time. It starts out as a fairly by the numbers ballad but gains a lot of momentum. Mustii has incredible vocals and the atmosphere is insane. The lyrics aren’t anything special but the delivery and mood of the song more than makes up for it. That final chorus with the choir legitimately gives me chills.

3. Norway: Ulveham-Gåte 10/10

Okay, this is incredible. Mixing old Norse folk songs with a hard rock vibe is excellent and the vocals are incredible! This is the perfect blend of beautifully traditional and kickass! This is another band I’ll definitely be checking out after this!

4. Switzerland: The Code-Nemo 10/10

Seeing a nonbinary artist making a song that’s blatantly about queer joy makes me absolutely thrilled, and the blend of rap and opera is insane. Their vocals are absolutely insane and I really hope this wins.

5. San Marino: 11:11-Megara 10/10

This is my first introduction to Megara and wow, I’m obsessed lol. I love hard rock especially female-fronted and I’ll definitely be checking this band out. This is just a really kickass hard rock banger with some electronic elements! There’s not much else to say expect the flamenco breakdown was really cool and actually fits well.

6. Latvia: Hollow-Dons 10/10

Yeah, I love dark stuff with this kind of vibe, it’s right up my alley. (Daylight and Arcade do this sound BADLY) this song does it WELL and I give a lot of credit to Dons for this insane performance. I could see this shrinking on me but for now, it’s hitting the spot! Anthemic shit like this is my cup of tea!

7. Serbia: Ramonda-Teya Dora 10/10

As far as ballads go, this is about as perfect as you can get. Teya’s voice is gorgeous, and the instrumental is perfectly spare leading up to a big crescendo. The final chorus gives me chills with the incredible layered vocals.

8. Czechia: Pedestal-Aiko 9.5/10

We love pop punk girlies! This song is so fun. It’s a great kickass self empowerment anthem about not needing no man! I’m a big fan of this sound and Aiko has a nice voice. The only reason it’s not a 10 is because I find the song a bit short.

9. Luxembourg: Fighter-TALI 9.5/10

Welcome back, Luxembourg! This is pretty much a perfect pop song and totally how you do a pop song lol. It’s catchy without being annoying, has all the production elements in the right place, a mix of languages, and a great performance by TALI. This one won’t get out of my head!

10. Croatia: Rim Tim Tagi Dim-Baby Lasagna 9/10

This song is very fun and peak Eurovision to me. The energy reminds me a lot of Kaarija last year. It’s extremely campy while still sounding pretty awesome and having that hard rock chorus. The anxiety of growing up and moving out is real so even if the lyrics are cheesy I enjoy them quite a bit. It’s just a bit cheesy for me to listen to regularly but it is such a banger.

11. Poland: Grito-iolanda 9/10

I’m not much for ballads but this one has some nice swell to it and a really pleasant melody as well as great vocals! What’s not to love?

12. Finland: No Rules!-Windows95Man 9/10

As goofy as this is, I can’t help but love it. It puts a huge smile on my face and it has a nice positive message. Also the whole Windows95 aesthetic is awesome lol.

13. Ireland: Doomsday Blue-Bambie Thug 9/10

Okay, yeah, thanks for the discovery! This gives me BIG Ashnikko and TeZAtalks vibes and I am here for it. Also more nonbinary representation! Definitely the most unique song of the year! I love the aggro rap and hard rock juxtaposed with the acoustic chorus. Very cool!

14. Estonia: 5MINUST, Puuluup-(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi 8.5/10

This title is way too long lol. I had no idea how to rank this, but yeah, this is fun and just embodies Eurovision for me! It’s such a bop!

15. Albania: TiTAN-Besa 8.5/10

I love everything about this from Besa’s vocals to the anthemic mood, to the handclaps to the synth explosion of the final chorus. My only problem is how the first part of the song is kind of boring and the lyrics are woefully generic.

16. Azerbaijan: Özünle Apar-Fahree, İlkin Dovletov 8/10

This song is really gorgeous. The vocals are beautiful, it has a relaxing ethnic vibe, I love the stings and backing vocals, and this definitely strikes me as a unique entry!

17. Moldova: The Middle-Natalia Barbu 8/10

I’m not really sure why people hate this one. It’s really unique and has a great orchestral vibe to it. Sure, the lyrics are generic, but the vocals are great and I love the combination of the more orchestral vibe and the dance beat. It’s a really nice vibe!

18. Australia: One Mikali (One Blood)-Electric Fields 8/10

I like this one a lot. It has a nice message and a really great crowd pleaser vibe. The vocals are great and it’s an electronic sound with traditional and ethnic elements. I really love the synth riff, that’s some delicious stuff. I just find it a bit cheesy to be one of my top choices.

19. France: Mon Amor-Slimane 8/10

I’m not usually much for ballads, and this isn’t something I’d listen to all that often, but this man has some pipes and his vocals absolutely carry this song.

20. Italy: La Noia-Angelina Mango 8/10

This is a really fun ethnic song with good vocals and a nice instrumental that makes me want to dance. I like these type of songs a lot.

21. Cyrpus: Liar-Silia Kapsis 8/10

This one is strange for me, since it has tropical house elements and is extremely generic which I both hate. This kind of reminds me of Solo from last year, but better. Idk what it is about this girl and the song but it’s so catchy and I have a lot of fun with this despite its shortcomings.

22. Armenia: Jako-Ladanavia 8/10

This is probably the most ethnic sounding song on the list and I find it to be quite repetitive. This seems more like a novelty song than one I’d listen to a lot, but I can’t deny how fun and upbeat it is! This is a very unique entry in the lineup!

23. Greece: ZARI-Marina Satti 8/10

I was not feeling this at first, but it’s really grown on me. It’s incredibly infectious. Yes, it can get annoying after a while, but I listen to a lot of noisy music so I’m sort of immune. I like the ethnic sound and party vibe but I do think it has the potential to shrink on me really fast.

24. Malta: Loop-Sara Bonnici 8/10

This is a really solid and fun pop song with nice vocals, there’s not much else to say about it!

25. Georgia: Firefighter-Nutsa 7.5/10

I really wish I liked this more. Iru was absoltuely robbed last year and I can’t help but feel that this one also has very generic lyrics and messy production. However Nutsa is a good perfomer and I really like the “I see it in the air” chanting and the song has a nice build to the chorus. Considering I listen to a lot of K-pop with similarly messy production, this doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it would for some.

26. Netherlands: Europapa-Joost 7/10

This one has grown on me a lot since I first heard it. It kind gives me similar catchy energy to “Who the Hell is Edgar” from last year and it’s a fun song about Europe with a fun beat that I enjoy.

27. Ukraine: Teresa & Maria-aloyna aloyna, Jerry Heil 7/10

I think this song has a great message and an absolutely gorgeous chorus, however I find the rap to be very out of place and it sounds like an entirely different song to me and really takes me out of the experience.

28. United Kingdom: Dizzy-Olly Alexander 6.5/10

This is one that I can see a lot of people liking, and it isn’t bad! It’s not a nice chill electronic vibe and I wouldn’t turn it off if it came on. I just don’t find it all that interesting, sorry!

29. Austria: We Will Rave-Kaleen 6.5/10

Austria went with 00s eurodance this year and the song is pretty decent. The title is certainly accurate as this would go off hard at a rave. I think it will be a crowd favorite. I don’t find the vocals to be that interesting and the song is incredibly repetitive, however.

30. Poland: The Tower-LUNA 6/10

This one is also really boring for me. It’s a nice synthpop song, but not much else. It’s not dark or exciting enough for me to latch onto. Also LUNA’s vocals remind me of Halsey which is cool I guess.

31. Germany: Always on the Run-ISAAK 6/10

This feels like a very generic Imagine Dragons-type song. ISAAK has a good voice and the song is very anthemic and uplifting, but I don’t like how generic the lyrics and melody are.

32. Denmark: SAND-Saba 6/10

Another woefully generic but well-produced entry. Saba’s vocals are quite good, but yeah, it can’t get much more generic than this.

33. Sweden: Unforgettable:-Marcus & Martinus 5.5/10

I unfortunately find this song very forgettable. It’s just generic evil woman lyrics, the vocals aren’t anything special, and while the beat is fun, there’s just not much to come back to.

34. Spain: ZORRA-Nebulossa 5/10

This song sounds like early 2010s schlock and is just not that well produced and the performer doesn’t do much to elevate it.

35. Lithuania: Luktelk-Silvester Belt 5/10

This one is just pretty generic to me. I could see why people like it or find it fun, but I’m not getting much from this.

36. Iceland: Scared of Heights-Hera Björk 4/10

Man, this is so generic. I don’t even know what to say other than that this sounds like a 2009 song and that’s not a compliment. Yes her voice is good, but you can’t get more generic than this shit.

Stephanie - Wings (Little Mix)

This song perfectly captures Steph's strong confident independent bad B personality lol. She seizes every opportunity, lives in the moment, and makes the best of every moment. That's what this whole song is about!

The only thing is... it makes a point about mothers giving their daughters life advice, and that doesn't exactly fit Steph as a character lol. She doesn't even know who her biological mother is... but the general message of the song fits nicely, so who cares?

Bret - Iris (The Goo Goo Dolls)

This song just screams Bret to me, I can't explain it.

Also, fun fact - a friend/follower of mine actually suggested that I put this on his Spotify playlist! So it isn't just me lol. I've actually put it on the Brelise playlist instead of the Bret one.

It's deep and moving, and beautifully written. Perfectly encapsulates his more vulnerable, sensitive side - the part of him that is hurting and looking for peace and solace and understanding (even if it's from just one person in the whole world). He wants someone to know who he is. He wants acceptance. And luckily, he does get it!

I feel inclined to say "Für Elise" by Beethoven since that is where I got her name from. That's why I made this piece so important to her character.

Also, it is classical music, which I think suits El quite a lot... pretty, expressive, structured and classy. Plus, she's the studious one, and it is recommended to listen to classical music while you study!

Personality-wise and character-arc-wise, I feel like this song suits her a lot, though - it's called "Keeping Your Head Up" by Birdy!

I don't want to explain it too much... just listen to the lyrics. Elise's character in a nutshell, definitely.

I feel like Dylan would love it too. It's optimistic, while also reflective.

Gives off strong Dylan vibes to me. Very upbeat, but with a surprisingly rich inner world.

Just wanted to share with you a few songs that remind me of your masterpieces 🥰

First and foremost I want to tell you that WHGTB is my favorite work among all Tommary fandom that I have read all the time and I read a lot. I cherish it and looking forward to reread it once memories fade away a bit 😅

The WHGTB one definitely perfectly reflects Tom and his way of thinking. I don't even know which memorable moments to pick because almost every line fits!

This really illustrates the duality of thoughts and feelings Tom had regarding his own personality. He never felt regret over hurting or killing anyone, but he felt it through the prism of his intense love for Harry. Harry mattered more to him than anything or anyone in the world: Tom craved his love and approval and he dreaded his disappointment. Trying to change in order to become someone who Harry wouldn't feel torn about loving re-defined Tom to the point where sometimes it was difficult to assess him as his own person. Harry set his roots in him very deeply.

This is another passage that echoes what Tom was thinking so often. That if Harry just stayed, just let him explain, everything would be fine. Only they saw too many things way too differently, so Tom miscalculated more than once.

Head so full about your band AU rn, I have to share the connections my brain has been making

First of all, Kung Lao getting his bass all bloody? This reminds me so much of Sodo from the band Ghost who did this (multiple times, might I add) and his white guitar was all bloody.. yummy

Then Sento as the drumsticks? Dude that's so smart and the crack potential is unreal (the fans will learn to ignore all the weird stuff happening during concert with time I'm sure lol)

Also, I know I will never hear Raiden's death growl or angelic voice, but in my head it's so clear how amazing he sounds, I can bet how many fans the guys have just purely after hearing him and not even knowing anything about the band itself

kung lao was partially inspired by that (ive listened to ONE ghost song i apologize)... but also I PLAY TOO HARD... as for Sento im a big fan of the little(?) details but also i am actually sentos #1 fan move over kenshi. Raiden would have those real sweet and soft vocals outside of the death growl but all i can really imagine in my head is him throwing his head back and leaning down and putting his entire heart into it. Kenobi use to sing this to Anakin when he was a child to make him feel better, he even thought him the dance, so whenever the song plays the whole ship turns to Obi-wan and expect him to do it.

Please don't notice how obsessed I am with Ahsoka and her wholesome relationship with the 501st clones, Rex always sings this song to Ahsoka, along with the rest of the clones as a magnificent choir.

Fives has a bit of an obsession with the Backstreet Boys, but Echo won't let him die alone, so he always sings the little 'Yeah's’ in the song so Fives won’t feel so alone.

*poke poke* okay your turn lets hear some music takes! (no need for a long list like i did you can just tell me your top and bottom picks if you wanna)

Iiiiiii spent way too much time trying to analyze these. It felt like a good excuse to look at them all, your analyses were really fun to read! And I like making lists! Unfortunately I am way less knowledgeable about rock genres and music in general so this'll be less smartly analytical as opposed to me just screaming. Also I found out that I was way more opinionated on some songs than on others. Not surprising I guess but man looking between my thoughts on Chipp's vs Faust's was a little embarrassing.

Find Your One Way- Likewise I absolutely got the title confused. Tbh I think it'd make more sense if it was 'own.' I feel like this song sums up Sol well in terms of being edgy and rocking but mechanically pretty straightforward. Not bad, just kind of basic. It's serviceable. Just…not much else

Roar of the Spark- I fully maintain that Ky has not had a single clunker or flop theme, not even in the original vocal tracks. Tonally and lyrically it's an absolute gem. I adore how the sparkly keyboard gives it a bit of a 'holy' vibe. Not a second of it doesn't absolutely go hard. This is one that I regularly relisten to not even as a video game theme but just a song I love banging my head to

The Disaster of Passion- A little basic? Sure. Absolute bop? OH BOY IS IT. Utterly bursting with energy, but it never comes off as exhausting or cloying. For the most part I really love AISHA's themes, and it's another one I listen to for fun a lot

Out of the Box- I appreciate that even if I'm not a huge fan of the theme it still very clearly reflects who it belongs to. A very offbeat and leisurely feel, fits Axl perfectly. I love the drum kicks, but the high pitched parts are a little silly. At least it knows how to a decent chant, unlike some themes.

Play the Hero- ….man, it really is an anime theme, huh. The sudden sweep of energy going into the first chorus does do a great job of pumping you up. I wish I had more to say. It's good, it does its job.

Armor-Clad Faith- I don't know about 'underrated,' but I feel like the low, grinding, industrial vibe really fits Potemkin and creates a really powerful atmosphere that gets a bit overlooked. You can feel Potemkin, but you can feel the mechanical nature of Zepp surrounding him too. As much as I love Engage I'm tied between them, they both create really good atmosphere

Alone Infection- (Prepare for a long-winded mess)

It's been a hot second since I listened to this one, at least before Another Story, and not to read too into stuff, but I feel like the whole thing is an abridged version of Faust's entire plot arc. The first portion is growling and harsh and whispering with fretful undertones, which fits really well with his original snap as Baldhead, psychologically he was all over the place, unable to process the grief and self-loathing, and even after stopping with the killing and trying to atone, he had nobody to connect with or to talk to in order to help him understand and process his psychological damage. It constantly hangs over him, but nobody else can see it's there aside from him.

The sort of goofy vaudeville/circus-esque section could be a lot of the 'Faust' persona, but I'd lean towards Xrd and maybe the tail end of the XX-series. He's happy! He's fun! Don't focus on the undertones! He's the happy silly doctor man, everything is fine! Everything is fine!! But it's temporary, because it's just a band-aid on a stab wound, making everything look good on the outside. As soon as you prod it, it's obvious that barely anything has changed, and we're back to the chorus

And just as quickly, it all cuts out into a gentle guitar piece. I think this could be Another Story. It's finally quiet, no distractions for him to use to ignore what he hasn't been able to address. He recognizes that he's been running from his past and the trauma that comes with it, and is able to see 'eye to eye' with himself. It's difficult, and it's something he hasn't wanted to look at, but it's what he had to do in order to accept what happened and finally let it go.

While the final section is basically the same lyrics at first, it's much more grand and sweeping, soulful and dare I say it, hopeful. Positive things are mixed into the line about grief, and the final round of the chorus gives off the impression that he's come to terms with the fact that his trauma is something that he still is the only one that can see the full depths of it, but it's something he's accepted as a part of himself and can allow to coexist with the rest of him rather than overshadowing everything like it has for years.

Love the Subhuman Self- Ough Millia sweetie I'm so sorry I overlooked your theme it's fabulous. Tbh in general I love whenever they go for a more electronic sound, and the opener does give off a slightly lopsided vibe, like Millia herself isn't psychologically solid. But the low, grinding sound it veers into not long afterwards also works really well for her tonally, it remids me of a Metal Gear track, and offers up a mental image of her masking her uneasiness and discomforts with the rigid assassin duties she's given. The growl in the chorus also feels like a pretty obvious nod to Zato, and how even in a song that's supposed to be about Millia and who she is, he still seeps in. Even if she tries to move on, he's still there.

One thing I hadn't noticed the first couple of times that there's a sense of…almost childishness in some of the lyrics. The repeated mention of lullabies, throwing rocks into a lake like children would do, specifically the mention of looking 'cute' rather than something like pretty or beautiful that an adult would use. Could be overanalyzing but I like the suggestion it gives off that her upbringing left Millia psychologically stunted in some ways, and part of the reason leaving the assassin lifestyle is so difficult

Let Me Carve Your Way- Okay. Yes. The opening and the ending do worm into my skull and do indeed slap monumentally. However, I think the middle of the sandwich is just…decent. Basic in the same way that Sol's is, and I don't think it flows into the ending well, it just kinda stops and starts as a new song. Front half is a solid C tier, back is an A

Necessary Discrepancy- MORE ELECTRONIC SOUNDS YIPPIE. It plus the usage of Esperanto fits really well for an artificial girl. I know this one is a little divisive, but I love the chorus. The turn into standard guitar and vocals after the first chorus could make sense from a narrative POV, but it feels a little like playing it safe after getting experimental with the beginning. Did I mention I like the chorus? I like the chorus.

Hellfire- Cool opening! Can we please send Leo to therapy now. It's a good song but genuinely I don't think any of the themes are so transparently about self-hatred and intentionally suicidal recklessness born from it and it's legitimately hard to get into it like the others because I just keep side-eyeing the lyrics uncomfortably. Small aside but the sitar-esque twangs are a fun addition even if I'm not sure if it fits him well.

What do you Fight For- Still amazed they went for a Beatles homage in the intro. Like with Zato's though, the different parts don't so much flow into each other as they are stapled together. I like the radio segment but I still don't get what relevance it has to Nago. Thankfully he wasn't stuck with just the one

Trigger- She gets a really good and distinct sound, shame they don't do much with it. Nothing wrong with a song that just sounds fun, and while I know it's sort of the point of the lyrics, but given how much they were used for telling a story or going deeper on a character, hers is so surface level and uncomplicated that I wonder what the point is of having lyrics at all for her theme.

Rock Parade- Still eternally mad about the 'it's about wanting to have sex with Baiken' interpretation that is still so prevalent despite it not making a shred of sense. Nonetheless, terrific song. The shifts between parts actually feel natural. The usage of an intentionally more 'Japanese' sound in the later parts is both a fun way of tying into Anji's background and gives the emotions more of a sense of earnestness, which is especially punchy for someone who's known for their dishonesty

Requiem- It really stands out that so far, this is the first song that opens with lyrics. While I can't say this theme is my favorite for a couple of reasons, maybe in part due to listening again after Strive's release this one did bring my mood down. The post-chorus is getting stuck in my head though.

Crawl- BANGS BANGS BANGS BANGS THE THEME NAGO DESERVES. Perfect followup to I-no's theme honestly because the contrast of 'I'm not going to give up in the face of this suffering and I will literally crawl out of it if I have to' is all the more impactful. I adore the last round of the chorus and the concept of the 'freedom of calm' is so good that I can gladly overlook it being a touch cheesy

The Kiss of Death- Like with Axl's, I love how a theme can so resemble a character just in terms of its sound. Mechanical thrumming like heavy machinery and a slow, rocking beat? That's our peepaw! I wish the title had a bit more explanation behind it but that's a minor nitpick

Perfection Can't Please Me- Huh. It's just like Jack-O. Cute and boring. I get what they were going for, but this is the cloying energy that May's theme skirted. The 'this is it' refrain was fun and them playing around with piano was a nice touch, but like with Giovanna's the lyrics are so surface level comparable to others and the themes it's trying to go over feel like they were done better and more creatively in other themes

Drift- Playing with the piano again! Like with Ram's, opening with something cool and unique before shifting into the standard guitar feels like you're playing it safe. Hokey or not the Disney segment almost got me feeling something earnest before they gave up again. Dammit Happy you almost had something.

Mirror of the World- Like with Anji's I appreciate deliberately including more clearly Japanese elements, in this case the actual language. So much of this becomes more heartwarming since we got Another Story, relistening was worth it just for that

Like a Weed- I am ashamed to admit I had yet to hear this one in full. I say with shame because wow I sure have been missing out. Some of the lyrics feel a little forced, including the title drop, but I appreciate Naoki doing something different with his voice. The theme of 'life is simple and unremarkable yet beautiful and full of the meaning I choose to give it' is similar to Jack-O's except good and well done. The string outtro was unexpected but gleefully welcomed

The Town Inside Me- Similarly to May, a little basic? A little poppier? Yes, but if you're going in that direction, go whole hog, and this one totally does. Own it! In that way, it ties into Bridget even more. Use that energy to be joyful and confident. There's no shame to be had in being so bright

The Hourglass- Another song I hadn't gotten around to. Unlike Testament's though, I don't think I missed too much. It ties nicely into Sol's theme by being relatively basic. Not bad, just not anything stunningly original. The piano gave it some energy, but I don't think there was anything to make it have a clear identity of its own. Like you said, fun but simple in the way that Sin himself is. The fact that I've only heard it twice now probably doesn't help but I couldn't tell you any of the lyrics, it's that dry. Interested by the return of the radio/vaudeville voice, I hope it isn't meant to have the same implications as Faust's use of it.

The Circle- I'm starting to believe the crack theories that Happy and the bed siblings have something to do with each other because they both have themes with a lot of slapdash elements that don't mesh together. And, again, it's possible that was intentional, but by this point not even the mishmash is original. I still don't get why the chant is there, it adds nothing and feels like they're trying to fill space. Talk-singing is a staple with a lot of these, but this one feels the most egregious. I've warmed to it a tiny bit, I like a couple parts of it, but I think this feels less like a proper song and more like slam poetry. I want to like it. I really do. But when it came around to listening to this one again it felt more like a task to endure rather than be a song I genuinely enjoyed looking up and listening to for fun. I'm just confused how at how Does the Sheep Count the Sheep manages to do so much better at indicating who Bedman is as a character without having any words whatsoever and still having a good melody that flows well. I'm sorry for both of them, it's just such a nothing song to me.

Misty: Unreleased song, Who I've Always Been. This song perfectly encapsulates her stubbornness, her insistence to prove herself. I also ADORE that yeehaw Taylor was feral and straight up said 'I will fight you in an empty room', which... Misty vibes.

Ash: Invisible String. Ash has such a deep connection with all of his friends, and I think this song encapsulates that well! As if fate brought him to everyone he loves. Also a very good satogou/shigesato/shigesatogou song.

Brock: The One.

May: Smacking Teardrops on my Guitar away with a broom Holy Ground. It paints a picture of a girl who has the entire world open to her, of someone who seeks new feelings and experiences.

Serena: Gold Rush. Could be Amour I GUESS but it just feels very serena to me even outside of the crush plotline, even sonically and production wise (shoutout to Aaron Dessner). Could easily be made to fit the spphic serena agenda. (the song is pronoun-less, other than 'you'!) BUT ALSO DOROTHEA!!!!!

Bonnie: No Body No Crime. Didn't she kill Lysandre??? Or is that just a meme???

Chloe: Mirrorball. A song fit for a girl whose place in the world isn't concrete but she's still trying. (A Place in This World may have been more fitting but lyrically, it was written by a fourteen year old so I think Mirrorball is a more interesting choice).

Iris: Forever and Always. Not because of anything in the song itself, but because during the live preformance of it Taylor throws a chair and that is VERY Iris I think.

Rating Eurovision 2022 looks

It’s me again! I meant to do this around the time the contest was actually happening but then I didn’t have time, so deal with it. I have fun doing these. And it helps stave off the withdrawal.

I want your Grandma yum yum -Honestly this is such Eurovision chaos and I lowkey love it even if I also find the song a little annoying even if it’s also catchy -I just feel happy when I see them, this is the weirdness I like getting a taste of at Eurovision -My one critique is I think it would have been better if they all had the same shoes instead of two of the dancers wearing heels. I just prefer the sneakers 9/10

Moldova train boys -Traditional meets contemporary, we love to see it -I wasn’t sure about the hoodie and the hat at first, but you know what? Why not? -This is what Eurovision is about -The colours and patterns match the fun energy of the song perfectly -Nothing else to say 10/10

Chanel No. 10 -I’m probably about to get cancelled for my opinion on this -I like the matador theme and the sparkles and the mesh -But I would have liked it better if it were a regular body suit instead of a thong -There’s nothing wrong with her body, or the body of anyone who wants to rock this look -I just don’t like the thong aesthetic and it looks uncomfortable 7/10

Onesie spaceman -Yes, I know, technically it’s a JUMPSUIT -Fits the vibe of the song fairly well and I like that he went with something we haven’t seen before in the whole show this year -Glittery and space themed without being ugly and gaudy, which I appreciate -Still not my favourite, but not bad 7/10

The Champions -More traditional and contemporary, we love to see it -Not sure how I feel about the full-body suit/balaclava thing, even though I like the traditional patterns and it’s not like anything else this year -That pink bucket hat is so of the moment and while I wondered at times how he could see, it only reminded me of wishing other people let me be with my pink bucket hat as a child instead of telling me to flip the brim up to see my eyes, so I vibe with it -Also that guy with the big feathery costume looks very interesting even though I don’t know what he’s supposed to be. 10/10

Latvian Vegan Wiggles -As soon as I saw the purple guy and the yellow guy they reminded me of the Wiggles -They want us to eat our salad, which I can only assume includes fruit salad -I liked their energy and colourful looks even if there was a fair bit of chest on display, which isn’t my favourite 9.5/10

A ya ya -He’s so cute and I like his voice -This look fits the vibe of his Western-y song, which is an important aspect of a Eurovision outfit -But I thought it was kind of uninteresting compared to others in the contest this year 7/10

Let the waaaaaaater carry me away -I know I just said Stefan’s look was a little boring, but while Ochman’s is also somewhat traditional I still really liked it -The blue ribbons representing the water really fit well with the song even if it didn’t always show up super well in the lighting -Also, he’s classically trained, so this outfit carries a bit of his history along with it -Anytime someone does something different than a plain black and regular tie is a victory for more interesting developments in men’s suits 8/10

Disko Kids -ISTG the difficulty I had trying to find decent photos of these wonderful, wonderful suits -Retro, velvet, nice colours, gender neutral, what’s not to love? -These kids were done dirty by the voting they should have been in the final -Rocking these badass 70s suits 10/10

Systur says Trans Rights -I know my posts about fashion are kind of silly but I want to end on a serious moment and say that this is one of the most important Eurovision looks this year -I could have talked about how pretty these women looked onstage, because they did, but this is more important -One of them is the mother of a trans boy and the whole group has been promoting trans rights in their clothes throughout the contest, and I love that they were wearing these shirts and stuff during their interviews -I love that they carried a trans flag at the competition, too -Also, the same article about one of them having a trans son said one of the other sisters is a lesbian, so stop saying lesbian rights and trans rights are in conflict because they’re not -I hope lots of people will listen to them 10/10

Warning: A lot of “I think”’s for a relationship that isn’t mine between two people I literally do not know below. But all of my opinions have been formulated based on what they’ve said in their interviews and their songs. 

My personal theory is that they redefined their relationship sometime in 2018/2019. I honestly believe they were monogamous before then when they were “on”, at least. I think it’s possible that their relationship was becoming really toxic (as HS1 reflects for me) and touring apart, changing lives and life events in general certainly did it no good, so they chose to readjust it so that their relationship could survive —> “What if you’re someone I just want around?”. It’s clear Harry wanted his partner’s presence in any capacity possible, even if romance was not an option.

TBH, I don’t think they hookup with others all that much and I do think they have a sense of commitment and a true, pure and enduring love between them. I just think they’re trying to navigate their lives as best as they can in a way that assures each other’s presence in a healthy way instead of being stuck in their MMITH era haha. I think their importance to one another goes beyond being a romantic partner. I’d define it more like “life partners” than anything else. Non traditional situations are bound to bloom non-traditional relationships.

I feel like all of these feelings can be summed up in Keep Driving, too. Gives off the vibes of two people sharing a life together, but also a couple of tiny little hints that it perhaps doesn't fit exactly with the Larry Narrative ("kiss her and don't tells"). I think that song embodies how I view their relationship more than any other one written by them both.

I also believe that if such a situation does exist, it’s “temporary”, as I cannot imagine it continuing once their careers mellow out and they settle. I think Harry once hinted at something like this as well. 

I love the “Keep Driving” analysis. Because I choose to take the same meaning from that song (like, let’s keep going despite the challenges). I mean, none of the references have any clear meaning to me. There’s no direct reason for me to believe the song is about Louis versus anyone else. But it perfectly embodies the way I view their relationship, too.

I’m very picky about what songs I allow myself to believe they might have written about each other. I always suspected that Walls was mostly about Harry. “All Along” was enough to confirm that for me. Admittedly, I don’t view most of Harry’s music as being about Louis (at least, not explicitly). But like I said, I do think Louis writes about Harry. So I’m willing to believe Harry writes about Louis. 🤷‍♀️

Elizabeth. It means “God is my oath”, and although she starts losing hope in there even being a God after being forced to move to Sheridan at 17, she still finds herself praying to Him almost every night for things to change and be in her favor for once. It’s one of the few times of day where she allows her vulnerability to show itself.

2. Last name?

Lacey.

3. Do they have a middle name?

Nelbert, after Nelbert Chouinard, the woman who founded the Chouinard Art Institute (now known as the California Institute of the Arts).

4. Name a song that describes them.

“Grey Street” by The Dave Matthews Band. To me, this song perfectly encapsulates what it means for a teenager like Elizabeth to try and live with clinical depression. Like Dave sings, there's an emptiness inside her, and she'd do anything to fill it in. But all the colors mix together to grey, and it breaks her heart. There’s also mentions of this girl praying almost every night, wishing badly to be somewhere else, and a helpful stranger sitting outside her door giving her advice (who I always picture being Herman), only for her to deny this “crazy man” and say that she lives on the corner of Grey Street - and the end of the world. She just feels like kicking out all the windows and setting fire to this life. It’s a song that I’ve associated with Elizabeth almost since the beginning. It’s literally perfect for her. I can’t imagine a better song to describe her with than this one.

Gray. It’s the color of the hoodie she wears almost every single day, and the color of the depressive fog that surrounds her mind most of the time.

ENFP/The Campaigner, although it’s very hard to believe for those who don’t know her. Parts of her personality type do shine through on her better days if one pays attention.

Type 4/The Individualist.

No character in particular. She just kind of came to me.

Her aunt, Grace Lacey. You’d probably want to do the same if you had an aunt who constantly downplayed your mental illness and dismissed your asexuality.

Again, Aunt Grace.

Arnold Deacon from “Thank You Mr. Arnold”. Considering her only true friend in Sheridan is an intelligent middle-aged man, she’d probably pick up similar vibes from Arnold, and may show much less hesitation in approaching him than most other people. She might be a bit offput by how no-nonsense and stern he can be at first (especially compared to the warmer and goofier Herman), but with time and patience, I could see her eventually seeing and appreciating the positive aspects of Arnold, such as his passion for the sciences and his everlasting love of gaining new knowledge. In a way, he is like Herman - just a little more reserved, is all. 

19. Character they would hate if they were in the same universe.

Logan Hirschfeld from “Thank You Mr. Arnold”. If she were to ever form some sort of emotional attachment to Arnold, you better believe she would be pissed to see him be mistreated by a boss like Mr. Hirschfeld. In her mind, it’d be like seeing Herman being mistreated - and that’s definitely not okay.

20. Artist they would listen to.

Meat Loaf. It’s the themes of his music that do it for her. Rebellion? Expressing long held emotions like extreme sadness and anger without shame or judgement? Feeling absolutely isolated from the rest? Sounds like a winner to her.

21. Artist they would hate.

Anyone who she feels “sings too many damn love songs”. The only one she’s even willing to let slide for this is Meat Loaf, only because “he sings so damn good”.

22. Give them a theme song.

“Act of the Apostle” by God Help the Girl. It sounds very much like Elizabeth’s thoughts on one of her emotionally numb days. One where she’s just too sick to care and just decides to go for a walk. After all, a change of scenery should help her feel something, right? So she does, and she does a whole bunch of things (such as buying a newspaper she’ll never read) to make herself look like a teen with a properly working mind, even though her mind is anything but. 

In reality, she’s on autopilot, following a programmed path she set up for days like this. If anybody asks what she’s doing out, she uses the same answer: “I’m going to a seminar”. After the first few times, it’s clear that it’s bullshit, but she doesn’t care. It’s better than humoring some damn nosy stranger about her business. After all, if she’s got to grow up some time, she has to do it on her own - or so she believes.

At home, she tunes in to her radio, blocking out yet another fight between her mother and aunt. Her safe audial haven. The girls at school may be singing about her life (or rather, snickering about her life), but who cares? They’re not here. Only she is. They can’t get to her here.

Quite a few people wonder about her, but she’ll never tell. If they want to find out, they can find out. But without trust, there is no discussion to be had.

25. Assign them an aesthetic.

Oily dark hair, dark eye circles, constant brain fog, chronically dry patchy pale skin, oversized gray hoodie that she can easily sink into, black sneakers that are slowly falling apart, a constant need to hide from the world, the ever-present echo of self-hating thoughts, broken mirror glass, radio and TV static, raindrops on the windows, worn covers of half-priced books she bought at Herman’s store.

26. What are their strengths?

Loyal, knowledgeable, creative, curious, grateful for any good things that happen, and good at listening. She typically displays these strengths around the very few people she trusts, but she’s slowly working her way up to showing these strengths around other people - just like she used to do around the fine folks of Paradise Fields. After all, these strengths helped her gain at least one friend she can depend on, so there’s hope for her yet.

27. What about fatal weaknesses?

Self-deprecating, easily frustrated/angered, stubborn, not easily willing to open up about her emotions, has difficulty keeping up with routines (not for lack of trying, obviously), and very distrustful.

28. The one person who can convince them to do something they’re stubbornly against.

Nobody. Absolutely nobody. She’d punch their face before she’d ever consider doing anything she’s against - which is never.

29. Who would they kill for?

Probably Herman, although he never ever wants her to go that far.

30. What tropes do they fall into?

I guess the “ill girl” trope, since she does have a mental illness at the start of her story (clinical depression). 

She also falls under the “angsty teen” trope, but not without good reason. Being forced to move away from her childhood home of 17 years because some jerkasses wanted the land for urban development, having to live in an apartment complex building owned by her rich bitch of an aunt (that she unfortunately has to see on a regular basis), no friends at her new school (but plenty of bullies), almost none of her teachers like her, having her relocation depression advance to clinical depression, etc. Needless to say, Elizabeth’s 17th year of life was one hell of a rocky one.

31. Fatal weakness (food edition).

Anything pasta related. There’s nothing like homemade linguini and meatballs topped with parmesan cheese on a rainy Saturday afternoon while listening to Pierre Alexander lovingly talk about his husband’s (Percy Livingston) travels across the globe aiding animals in need on the radio. She really doesn’t care much for romance, but with Pierre and Percy, she doesn’t mind that much. It’s actually pretty sweet if she’s to be honest.

32. Book they would definitely read.

Just about any book that Herman recommends her to read. Anything to help her escape her invasive self-hating thoughts at night. Plus, she really likes Herman, and he’s a well-read man, so she has complete trust in what he says is a good read. 

If you want a specific book, then “The Arabian Nights”. While she greatly prefers non-fiction, there’s just something so fascinating about these fantastical tales from the ancient past for Elizabeth. Yet another point for Herman for recommending that one.

33. Language besides their mother tongue they would (have) learned.

Yiddish, namely so that she and Herman can have conversations in Grace’s presence and not have to worry about her eavesdropping. Herman couldn’t help but smile and laugh when Elizabeth brought up that idea. Learning a whole other language just to piss off someone she hates? “This kid’s got it all figured out,” he thought.

34. Murder accomplice.

She’d like it to be Herman, although he’d always say no, and once again advise her to never go that way, lest she end up in jail for life. “Okaaay fine, I won’t,” Elizabeth would say with a sigh and a roll of the eyes.

35. Thing that makes them go weak at the knees.

Anytime someone tells her they’re proud of her. Could be her mother, her visiting father, or her friend/mentor Herman - her reaction will always be the same. Weak knees, followed by teary eyes, a surprisingly strong hug, and nuzzling her face deep into the crook of their neck. She may not be the most cheerful or open, but truly, all she wants is to not be seen as a waste of space or an inconvenience. She’s a human being fighting a mental illness after all - any positive acknowledgment helps.

36. Most obscure thing they HATE.

People who are pro-development. Land development was the reason she and all the people she knew in the small rural community of Paradise Fields were forced to leave, so of course she’d be anti-development after that. She often swore that if she ever met another person who was pro-development, she’d punch them in the nose.

37. While we’re there, biggest phobia.

Thanatophobia - the fear of losing those she loves.

38. Are they (would they be) a book or movie person?

Both, but especially books, given that they become her main escape for her first few years in Sheridan. She is especially fond of non-fiction science/history books.

Also, as an aside, she finds comfort in listening to the radio. Every Saturday evening at 7:30 on the dot, she tunes in to Pierre Alexander’s (Sheridan’s most beloved local DJ) radio show to listen to some picks from his father’s antique record collection. The rock records are her absolute favorites.

39. Are they a romantic?

Not even in the slightest. Remove the space between “a” and “romantic” and then you’d be right on the money.

40. Childhood experience that defines an aspect of their life.

The yearly Summer Light Festival in Paradise Fields. Every year in late June, the townspeople would string beautiful twinkling white lights from one house to another to signify the connection shared among all the residents in this small rural “everybody knows everybody” town. At night, the lights would be turned on, lighting the dirt path between each row of houses, symbolizing how with loved ones in your life, you are never lost. 

Furthermore, many evening games and activities took place over this period of time, including the “Circle Game”, where the kids danced in a circle to a fiddler’s music, wearing sunflower crowns on their heads. When the fiddler stopped, the children would all fall back on cue, their eyes facing the clear starry skies. It was during this event one summer that one of Elizabeth’s core values developed (as well as one of the earliest signs of her aromanticism in hindsight). 

Right as the fiddler stopped, and she and the others fell back laughing, a thought crossed her mind. Earlier that day, she overheard her mother sharing concerns to their neighbor, Don Adler, about how high school is not too far away and how nervous she was over her daughter getting involved with boys and possibly getting herself into trouble. “Pfft - what’s Mom so worried about anyway?” she thought. “I’m only 12. And besides, I don’t need the attention of some boy to be happy. I’m already happy having fun with all my friends. How can it get any better than this?”

That memory always stuck with Elizabeth, as she just so happened to come up with that thought during the activity that symbolized everlasting friendship between the children of Paradise Fields. As long as the music of life played on, the circle would rotate forevermore. The day she and the other neighbors she spent her whole life around had to move away was the day her friendship circle stopped turning. For the first time in her life, she was alone. She had her mother, sure, but that wasn’t enough. 

In Elizabeth’s mind, no love is greater than the kind shared between good friends. Without it, life is just not worth living. 

Romance is optional - but friendship is necessary.

Lepus, the Hare. Like Lepus, Elizabeth feels like she’s being chased - not by a hunter and his dogs, but by thoughts and feelings of self-hatred and suicide.

Sisyphus and The Boulder. Every single day she feels like she has to push an enormous boulder in the form of her mental illness up the hill called life - only to fail to get to the top and have to start over the next day. Some days she manages to push it higher than yesterday. Some days she doesn’t bother pushing at all and just lies on the ground. It all depends on the day.

Old soul. She’d be 25 by now if she were a real person, but she’d still feel far older than that. She values her time alone, seeks only meaningful connections, has high empathy, seeks knowledge and growth (namely from books), is a great listener, and tries to avoid negativity at all costs (although she can’t avoid the negativity in herself).

The overwhelming scent of cherry blossom body spray to try and mask the fact that she hasn’t showered in a week.

Sunflowers. It reminds her of her old home in Paradise Fields.

48. Can they swim?

Yes. She learned to swim at the communal swimming pool in Paradise Fields, and it was one of her favorite places to go in the summer. God, she misses those days so much.

49. Street smarts or brain smarts?

Brain smarts. Not many people even bother to pry into the mind behind the face, but Herman knows for a fact that Elizabeth is one truly intelligent individual. Space, the ocean, paleontology, meteorology, history, fine art - she has knowledge on them all. There is academic potential in her without a shadow of a doubt. He just wishes others could see her the way he does.

50. What is this character’s purpose to the plot?

To provide Herman - a middle-aged bookstore owner who’s also fairly new to Sheridan - some companionship along with a possible kindred spirit he can nurture.

I realize after re-reading my response about the whole Andy Biersack/Palate Royale thing that it might have come off as aggressive so I apologize. I guess I just get defensive about them because a lot of people like to talk sh*t about anything involving them without knowing any of the background info 😆

Ah no worries I didn't interpret it like that whatsoever and I actually really appreciated the sharing of knowledge ahaha. I knew Andy and Remi were both very happy to do the project so I just shrugged the choice off, any content of Andy is a bonus, and boy do I love Remis covers of all those songs so 👍🏻👍🏻 zero complaints from me hehe

But I'm glad now I can finally place why they had made that choice! 🐛

9. what are you struggling with the most in finishing your current wip(s)? 

I have the most troubles with filling in the gaps. I love adding more and more plot, but taking the time to write everything out can be a struggle. When I'm not into that particular vibe at that moment is is almost impossible, so I really need to follow my heart and work on what it desires hehe~

22. when do you know you’re really in a writing frenzy?

For me, that is usually when my ideas come faster than my fingers can type (which is mega fast) and I love it!! I love surprising myself with all the new plot and dialog etc. It is really exciting and I often find myself exclaiming out loud from happiness or astonishment. I really start gushing. These are the moments of writing I cherish the most, and what brings me the most happiness and fulfilment ♡♡♡

I'm moving to England today 😳

My bags are stuffed to the max, 99% practical minimalist stuff but I'm convinced I'll manage with this. Or else I'll have to get it there because nobody is coming my way for several months hahaha.

I'm ready for this adventure, woo!~☆

First real time of living by myself, but I got my dream job in the dream place so I'm positive about it ;)

MUSIC SHOP 

: pairing — idol! heeseung x music store worker! reader 

: genre — fluff 

: album recc. — case study 01 by daniel caesar and any of the albums i mentioned throughout the story! 

: a/n — this is a little more on the lengthier side so please know that before reading! (i couldn’t help myself i luv hee too much) 

it was a slow day at the shop. the dim fairy lights hung around lowly, making the atmosphere feel even slower. you walked around the store pushing a small grey cart that held all the albums, records, and cassette tapes one could ever imagine of, placing everything in their correct spots for future consumers to find. 

the sound of a faint bell was heard from the back of the store. where you were, indicating that someone had came in. you flatten out the front of your sweater and rush to greet the costumer. you are met with a tall man dressed in all black from head to toe, water droplets fell off the shoulder of his jacket and you make a mental note to mop the floor later. 

“hello! welcome to moonshines music. please let me know if you need help with anything, i’ll be happy to assist!” you cheerfully exclaim. you welcome costumers with a joyful energy that even cheers them up, it was your thing. the costumer pulled down the black mask from his face and waited for you to react. he was a slightly astonished when a reaction never came. no gasps, no eyes widening, no realization of who he was. just you with a firm smile on your face waiting for him to walk away and start shopping. he eyes you for a little before nodding his head and makes his way to the direction of the CD albums.

he pondered this feeling for a little. he wasn’t used to not being recognized. i mean, everyone knows him. he was on ever magazine cover and topped all the charts with his music. his face was plastered on every product poster that covered the walls of the busy city. so how could you not? he thinks that maybe you didn’t want to scare him off or bother him with pictures and autographs,  inflating his ego a little bit. but still, why did you not say anything? 

“excuse me! do you mind helping me out?” you could hear his voice from across the store as he shouted for you. jogging from your previous to his still figure. 

“how can i help you?” continuing on your energetic personality. he didn’t have a real reason to ask for help, he was just too intrigued by you and needed a reason to converse with you. he looks around the store frantically for a minuet before looking back behind him to the CD’s he initially walked towards. “can you choose an album for me?” he blurts in your face loudly. 

this wasn’t the first time someone asked for music recommendations but he walked in with confidence so you assumed he was a man who knew his music. “uhh yes um— do you perhaps have favourite genre that you maybe like?” you question him. he just stares at you, his lips folded in with a blank expression on his face. he shakes his head no. you politely nod again, now even more conflicted with what to recommend. you trail your eyes around the store till you see through the window next to the door. the sky is crying, whilst gray clouds surround it. the streetlight emitting an orange hue that reflect the fallen rain drops on the glass and you suddenly remember the small drops of water that trickled down his jacket sleeve when he first entered the store. 

walking behind him you scan for the letter D section and begin to search for the album. letting out a soft ‘hmm’ before pulling out the album and handing it to him. “Case Study 01 by Daniel Caesar. perfect for rainy days when you aren’t lost in your thoughts.” you end with a smile on your face. ‘so they really have no idea to who I am, huh’ he thinks to himself. he looks down at the album in his hands than looking back up at you. a gentle smile reaching his lips. he follows you to the cashier register and pushes the album towards you. “that’ll be $10.15! card or cash?” he whips out his wallet and takes out a credit card. you can’t help but notice it was a black card, a card only the richest of people have. you wonder how this man can be so rich and why he is buying from a tiny music store in the middle of a unknown area. 

you’re pulled away from your thoughts when the sound of the machine goes off,  indicating the purchase has gone through. you delicately place the album into a tiny bag and hand it over to him with glee. “enjoy the album sir! if you ever do comeback, let me know what you thought about it!” you say in a courteous manner. the young man now looks at you with a toothy grin on display for you to awe at. he nods in affirmation before exiting. the atmosphere becoming quiet again. you hoped to see that man again. 

another week has rolled around. you hum under your breath a silly little tune from a song on one of your many playlists, sending another customer off a new record they seemed to be extremely excited about. your job wasn’t much but seeing people share the same love for music as you was something that never failed to make you love life. wiping down the cashier, you hear the door chime and see the same handsome man from last week. you catch a glimpse of the clear sky and the natural light of the sun from out the door as he enters. 

“i LOVED that album! you described it literally perfectly, it fit the vibes of the weather sooo much but didn’t leave me agonizing about life like how the rain usually makes me feel.” it made you so happy and almost accomplished to have someone come back and praise you for your music choice. you were about to start telling him it was no big deal before he proposes, again, to choose another album for him. you look at him a little unsure, you honestly didn’t know what to give him this time and you were scared he wouldn’t like it this time. he can see the anxiety flush over your face but lets you know he is looking for something this time. “give me your childhood favourite album. like, you know every single lyric for every song on this album.” your eyes go wide as you practically jump towards the shelf. he giggles quietly, thinking how cute you looked. 

you prance towards the shelf knowing exactly where it was. in your hands was the Up All Night by One Direction, you shove the album into his hands with a passionate smile. he looks at you and tries to hide his judgment from you, which doesn’t work as you can see his eyebrow arch up and study the album in slight disgust. “hey! i danced to this album every night before i went to sleep for 3 years as a kid okay? it’s my favourite album!” your bottom lip pushes out, gazing at him with eyes the resemble a cute puppy. he throws his head back lets out a laugh that you think you could listen to for hours on end. 

just as the prior week, he passes you the album to scan through and pulls out his card to pay. he was about to make his way out before you stop him. “can I have your name?” you requested. you took a liking to the kind guy, he had a pretty face and laugh that you particularly enjoyed. he checks his phone and swiftly swipes through the millions of notifications he has, then gazing back up at you. a genuine look plastered on your face. a look that feigned innocence, kept promises, and truly enjoyed life for what it was. “heeseung. my name is heeseung.” 

you tug the key out of the door lock with a little force. the moon created a source of light and comfort as you made your way away from the shop and towards the subway station. you worked longer than usual and fatigue was the only thing felt within your weak bones. a car pulled up next to you, the window rolled down and revealed the person that has been occupying your thoughts recently, heeseung. 

“on your way home?” you nod. “hop in, i’ll drive you home, we can listen to some music while we’re at it.” now you usually don’t just get into random peoples car, but you trusted him. who else would listen One Direction because someone asked them to? 

his car was black from top to bottom, mirroring his outfits that he always wore. the windows were tinted and it looked intimidating from the outside, but on the inside sat a doe-eyed boy with the prettiest smile to exist. heeseung’s hand reaches out to turn up the volume of the car sound system. the sound of Frank Ocean’s voice fills up the empty sound within his car. it was song you were unfamiliar with. you ask what song this was and he lets out a dramatic gasp, almost looking offended. “you DON’T know this song? I guess pretty people can have flaws huh,” he turns his head to watch you flush a pink shade that can still be seen despite the darkness. a sight he thinks is quiet lovable. 

the car ride to your home lasted much shorter than you wished it did. you two talked about everything under the moon. favourite songs, old childhood friends, past lovers. heeseung enjoyed the fact that you didn’t know his career identity. to the world he was Lee Heeseung, world renowned singer and model, but to you he was just, heeseung. a young boy who loved music and loved the world involved around it. you made him feel like a regular person again. 

as you open the car door to make way into the glass doors of your apartment complex, heeseung grabs your wrist and pulls you back into the car. “how about... i lend you my favourite album this time, and next week on—” he checks the schedule his manager sent him, “saturday at 6 pm, i pick you up and we can talk more about it hm?” he holds his phone towards you with a cheeky smile on his face. you shake your head in disbelief as you bit back a smile of your own that is creeping on to your face. “I’ll see you then, hee.” your heart skipping beats as you walk away from the running vehicle. 

unbeknownst to you, an excited heeseung punches the air rapidly with excitement. he silently screams into the night like a kid. feeling as if he was on cloud 9 to have scored a date with someone who’s a) the most beautiful person he’s ever seen and b) someone who likes him for his truest self.
