Hi! Hope you're well, just wanted to say that you're a brilliant writer. I've been following TGSTLTH for a while and I'm still taken by it. I wanted to ask about Ciel's portrayed loyalty to the queen, Sebastian and some others seem to be disgusted by it but I never got the impression that he is loyal to her, only naive about her intentions. I think, Ciel takes watchdog's duties seriously out the need to prove himself capable, pride and duty, for the name of "Ciel Phantomhive". What do you think?

I agree with you. I think Ciel doesn't have genuine emotional loyalty to the queen, but he has naive respect and reverence instilled in him by his father. In the anime, Vincent, even knowing that Victoria was planning to kill him, stated that Ciel must never know because he should stay loyal to her. I think he was cultivating this loyalty by displaying his own and making Ciel absorb it - children often mirror their parents. Ciel heard about the greatness of Victoria and the honor of serving her that stretched through multiple generations of his family so much that it became a universal truth to him.

He sees it as his family tradition, an obligation like marrying Elisabeth. No authentic emotional engagement, but the belief that it's expected of him and that he must carry this duty as a Phantomhive. And Ciel is treating his duties very seriously - he sees a lot of pride in it.

What is it about Hannibal and Will's relationship that you like the most???

Oh, there are many things! The first and major one is the 'soulmates' quality of their relationship. The only people who can understand one another, who are drawn to each other like they've never been before, who have the power to destroy and revive one another. The fact that they almost have a mind connection at times, that they can read each other from a mere glance - I love this.

I'm also a big fan of obsession and possessiveness, and Hannigram delivers both. The topics of darkness and morality - or its absence - are an extra cherry on top.

They are so different from everyone else in this show. They are like two deities who speak their own language and operate on a level no one else can hope to access.

Hey, I was re-reading ATLWETD when I noticed something so obvious in this paragraph that I stupidly didn't notice the first time.

"Riddle was taller than him, so now his lips were almost brushing against Harry’s forehead. 

“I don’t need to live in a Muggle world to own someone,” he murmured. Belatedly, Harry realised why he was standing so close — he didn’t want others to overhear his outrageous statements. “You should know this. After all, you know me better than anyone.”"

He wasn't gloating only about the death eaters, like Harry thought, he was mostly referring to the Horocrux situation and their own really unique relationship (also, the fact he almost kisses the scar as he speaks made me scream).

Will we see more moments like this in the next chapters?? (If you don't want to spoil us, just ignore this part.)

This all brings me to the actual question: Harry replies:"It’s because I know you that I’m not going to entertain your disturbing fantasies,” he said. Somehow, he managed to sound less harsh than he intended. “No matter what loyalty anyone promises you, it is not infinite. If you treat people who pledged themselves to you cruelly, they are not going to stay. I saw it happen. And by the rate you’re going, I think it might happen again.”

What the hell did Tom assume from this reply? And most importantly, what assumptions did he make about the connection between Harry and fake!Tom based on this answer?

Hi! Thank you <3 I'm glad that you saw the second meaning of Tom's words. It was related to how Tom envisions their relationship and to the Horcruxes both.

The more Tom imagines what life he and Harry might have had, the more feelings and desires are born in him. He's certain that Harry was his in every way and that he had absolute control over him because in his eyes, that's the only possibility for them to have a relationship. This is what he began to want now, so he's sure that any other version of him must have wanted the same. Harry cannot relate to it, ownership doesn't interest him, so he didn't fully comprehend what Tom meant.

I cannot say specifically what kind of moments of closeness and possessiveness we'll get because I never plan these things, they pop up by themselves as I write! But there will definitely be a lot of them))

As for your second question, Tom and Harry are having somewhat different conversations here. Harry is talking purely about Tom's followers, Tom is talking about them and about his bond with Harry at the same time. Harry's words made him think that he lost the devotion of some of his Death Eaters in that other reality, but most importantly, he contemplates the fact that his attitude cost him Harry. He doesn't know the specifics, but he thinks that his insanity pushed Harry away and resulted in him being snatched into some other world. Harry doesn't seem to be actively trying to go back to it, which Tom considers as another proof of their broken bond. In his mind, with their connection, Harry would have to be obsessed with reuniting with 'his' Tom. Since he isn't, it means that the other Tom failed him so much that Harry is now more interested in building something new with his other version.

Tom is confident that he'll be a better partner. At the same time, while he places Harry above everyone else, he doesn't see him as his equal, and he cannot imagine a relationship without any violence and control in it. He thinks Harry mostly accepts it, only that 'his' Tom overdid it because of the Horcruxes. So after Harry's reply, Tom's trying to assure him him that some violence is an inherent part of a relationship, and that he's in his right mind, so he'll know how to keep a balance between violence and fondness - basically, that he'll succeed in being a leader that Harry (and the others) would be glad to respect and follow both in 'professional' and personal capacities.

This probably sounds a little messy, but Tom's mind is still reeling from all the (fake) revelations, so he cannot always settle on a specific picture) It keeps changing.

I have a mixed opinion about the twins arc in manga. On the one hand, I feel a lot of admiration for it from a story-telling perspective. The psychological potential of it!.. The idea of our!Ciel assuming another identity, lying to everyone, having only Sebastian as his confidant, constantly striving to secure his new name and achievements, but also fighting the feeling that his brother might have been superior, that he was supposed to be the real heir - it's fascinating. Even more so when you add some guilt over what happened. And like you said, him and Sebastian both having a true and a fake name is a fantastic element that creates even more similarities between them.

On the other hand, as a reader, I just don't like twins-based plots. I also don't like when some relative presumed to be dead makes a sudden appearance and starts playing a big role in the life of the main characters. No matter how justified it is, it's something I tend to avoid in my books/movies/etc. The manga in general feels too big for me - I prefer smaller, protagonist-driven plots, which is why I love the anime so much.

As for Those Gentle Slopes, it's based on the anime, so Ciel doesn't have a brother there. His existence would have come up otherwise since it would have made a big impact on Ciel's personality, plus Sebastian would have mentioned it. So in my story, Ciel used to be a spoilt only child, darker and much more cunning than his parents gave him credit for even at that age.

Hi! Oh, I'm beyond excited about it! I watched the first episode as soon as it aired. I missed seeing Ciel and Sebastian in some new situations so incredibly much!

So far, I'm mostly satisfied, especially since they speak in the same beloved voices. I have a mixed opinion on some animation choices, and I'm not sure I like the opening. The second half of it in particular doesn't appeal to me, it feels weird and contrary to the style I've come to expect. But I swooned over the ending sequence. Ciel falling and Sebastian catching him, holding him, and them staring at one another... ah, the seductive tension, the connection between them, it's just what I love.

Seeing Ciel plot and switch between his real and fake personas in the way only he can pull off, and with Sebastian observing and playing back subtly - it was a delight. I can't wait for more episodes.

As always, thank you all so much for worrying and caring about me <3 @homunculusdm-blog, some parallels between what Tom lived through and what I'm going through will definitely make it into ATLWETD - I'm very interested in portraying the contrast between his and Harry's reactions! And who knows, it might actually be healing for me to describe everything like this, in a story. The first anon, I'm very grateful for your words! Very often, I don't feel strong at all, but then it's a deeply subjective thing, and I'm happy if I can inspire anyone.

There were a few bombings since I posted the chapter, but this time, the reason for my absence was actually good. It's my birthday soon, I'm turning 30, and my mother, my brother and I went on vacation for a couple of days to a safer part of Ukraine. It was such a wonderful time. I planned to respond to some asks and comments there, plus to write my fics, but honestly, I got completely lost in all the nature and peace. I felt like I was in some other country - everything was so lovely, soothing, and quiet - just the forest and the mountains. My brother and I rode a thing called the Alpine coaster, it was so fun. And I got to swim in a hotel's swimming pool - it's been a while, and I love swimming.

Coming home to Kyiv was almost sad, though I missed my pets a lot. I feel really well-rested now and eager to start getting more things done!

Hello another night of bombing! At least the chapter is out this time.

Also, I got a war-related ask a few days ago asking about my opinion - anon, I'm sorry but I don't have it in me to really discuss it right now :( I'll save it for later. Just, in short... these endless bombings the Ukrainians have been living with for over two years can be stopped with just a few weapons that countries like the US have in huge amounts. But none of those with true power are interested in helping us for real. Hell, they're even making money selling parts for these missiles to Russia and expressing empty concern when our people die yet again. And Ukraine itself was very stupid and brash - it willingly left itself completely defenseless.

That's it. Endless tragedy and greed, and no peace or justice in sight because they don't sell well.

The sweetness of victory blanketed him throughout the day. Ciel knew it was senseless to be so pleased — guessing Tanaka’s role was only one step up the road lying ahead, but Sebastian’s sour expression served as an inexhaustible source of joy. Ciel kept stealing smug looks at him, his heart soaring every time Sebastian purposefully ignored him, pretending he was busy with something else.

By evening, the heady sensation of triumph began to fade little by little, and Ciel was finally able to focus on the remaining players.

“You really ought to remodel the dining room,” Lau was saying. He was eagerly consuming his meal, talking between the bites, and tiny pieces of food kept escaping his mouth. The sight of it was enough to ruin Ciel’s appetite. “It looks too light. In the morning, you need to see some darker colours around. Give yourself some time to wake up properly.”

“I agree!” the Undertaker chimed in. He was still wearing a ridiculous number of medals — if anything, there were more of them decorating his cloak now. “That’s why I never turn on the lights in my little workplace. I don’t need to see much, and my roommates — well, they are dead, aren’t they?”

“This conversation is boring me,” Sebastian said. He was curled in a chair opposite Ciel’s with a book on his plate. It looked wildly inappropriate, and if they had any other guests, Ciel would be mortified enough to order Sebastian to kill everyone present. No one of esteem who witnessed such an embarrassing display from one of his servants could be allowed to live. Since his current guests were as far from respectable as they could be, though, he couldn’t care less. Randall was an exception, but he was so thoroughly under Ciel’s thumb that pretending for his sake alone wasn’t worth an effort.

Hi! The chapter that I was writing for my Black Butler story gained the insane volume of 50K+ words, so I had to break it into three parts, which is why I kept updating it. It was all one chapter, and I have this habit where I can't stop writing until I arrive at the point I have planned))

Right now, I'm done with this fic for a while, so I'll be focusing on ATLWETD. And yes, there will be a couple of updates, too, because the chapter will be long and it'll be easier to break it into parts.

I know it's been ages since the update, but I hope to compensate for it with the size of it! For some reason, it's easier for me to drop a 50K chapter once every 6 months than to make smaller but regular updates. No idea how it began but I can't seem to break this habit.

Hi, my wonderful readers! Thank you with everything I have for your support, words of comfort and reassurance - you who sent these asks and everyone who left the notes, messages, and other kinds of support. Four bombings in less than a week is a lot, but two days of peace did wonders: I finally got enough sleep and I finished editing the BB chapter. It gained some new content in this process, so now it's 23K words long. I'd post it right now but I'd rather do it after I wake up because I need to take care of some minor AO3 technical issues.

Some of the explosions that woke me up on Monday, ruining the first bombing-free night. Children from the kindergarten running to the shelter:

My cats were terrified, just running around with wide eyes, and I fled to the hallway away from the windows. But, you get used to forcing yourself to live even where someone is set on taking this life from you. So I was working less than half an hour after this, and I ordered a small take-out to treat myself.

Fortunately, no one died in this attack.

So many terrible things happened in other cities, but I can't talk about it right now. I just wanted to let you know that I'm fine, to express my absolute appreciation and love for you once again, and to tell you that the BB chapter will be posted within a day because it's 100% done + that I'm already working on ATLWETD and my Batman fics.
