Re Fox “not a psychologist” Mulder
He has a very valid point when he says this.
While in the pilot he is described as “an Oxford educated psychologist” and utilizes his knowledge of psychology for profiles in the violent crimes unit and on the x-files, he is very much not a psychologist.
At least here in the US, you earn the title of “psychologist” after you have obtained a masters degree or higher (such as a PhD or PsyD) and/or accreditation from a society/state/etc. (PsyD is a doctor of psychology which is different from an MD who practices psychiatry- psychology and psychiatry have differences as well) This is very nuanced and in laymen terms is questionably acceptable to use the term psychologist in reference to Fox Mulder, however, technically he is correct— he is not a psychologist.
The reason is due to credentialism and ethics, anyone can get an associates or bachelors in psychology but “higher education” is a way to gatekeep the profession and to protect the utilization of the knowledge you learn as a psychology student due to the nature of the study. There is higher moral and ethical stakes the more educated you are so only the highest educated may claim the title of psychologist. This concept falls into “scope of practice” and is most applicable in medical and related fields.
(Disregarding moral and societal implication of this act- it’s a complicated issue)
For example, You shouldn’t try hypnosis on someone until you’ve been adequately trained on the technique and consequences (neutral term). These standards are often set by entities such as the American psychological association and is often why you cannot practice psychology without a license- a degree alone is not enough to prove capability and responsibility.
In Dreamland 2 we see his diploma from Oxford University and he has a bachelor’s of science in psychology. He is not trained in clinical psychology, educational psychology, industrial psychology, school psychology, etc. His degree in psychology is one of science so it’s very likely his education had a focus on research and statistics more so than broad theory and principles. (Difference between a Bachelors of Science and a Bachelors of Arts in psychology).
All in all, yes he has a degree in psychology but he is not a psychologist. It’s very likely he would have had the time to get at least a masters before recruitment to the FBI but it is never established he has more than a bachelors from Oxford. I am also not well versed on psychology degrees in the UK and how the education and credits transfer to the US.

As a person who had to be some sort of a rebel to be myself, I think I understand Mello’s fashion choices quite well.
Still considering Mello to be a person who is not especially susceptible to sexual desires, I think he had a very particular psychological reason to wear this kind of clothing.
To me, his style just screams “I AM STRONG, I AM SCARY, I DO WHAT I WANT”, don’t you find?
I guess many kids who were suppressed, hurt and scared in their childhood can see themselves in this example.
You just have to do something to feel more powerful. To feel that you’re in control of your own life. Make sure that people see you the way you want them to.
The rosary seems especially telling in this context. To take something that was considered to be sacred in your childhood and to make it a fashion accessory. This is a really powerful “I do what I want” statement.

Me Picking Apart Leona (and i'm still not a psychologist)
okay, this is based off of this ask that got sent to me by @konekomews and i'm basically taking a look at leona and how he acts in-game and basically connecting his current self with how his childhood screwed him over
(note; still not a psychologist and probably never will be, don't take my theory as fact plz)
the first thing I thought of when I got the ask was 'hey, I can kinda relate to how leona feels sometimes. if there's an oldest child syndrome, is there also a youngest child syndrome?" and lo and behold, there is.
i read a few articles outlining it and here's what i gathered;
good at getting others to do things for them
leona has no problem with sitting around all day and napping, despite being dorm leader, he basically leaves someone else in charge of everything. ruggie is that person, left to pick up after the other dorm members, do leona's chores and get him lunch (seen in chapters 2 & 3) while leona basically orders him around.
manipulative
this one was a given, we see him use this in chapter 2, using charisma to string along his entire dorm until it all crumbles apart and he gives up. we also kind of see it in chapter 3 as well when leona destroys azul's contracts, but that was more of him being a part of yuu's plan and possibly adding his own spin on things.
good at problem solving
this is mainly tied to his schoolwork. while he may not be all that interested in school, we do know that he's very smart and cunning, and is easily able to pick apart problems and solve them. we also kinda see this in action in chapter 2, where he comes up with that elaborate scheme to take out magift players, and while that's more problem making than problem solving, i still wanted to point that out.
~~~
according to choosingtherapy.com, cultural background also plays a big factor in this. in some cultures, firstborn children are left with great responsibility and expectations on their shoulders, while the youngest children might feel less driven to follow their own achievements and success because of it.
i feel like this part related to leona the most. add on to the fact that he's a prince, that makes the feeling way more deeper, considering how the kingdom obviously prefers farena over leona.
i've made this relation before on my YT, but farena and leona give off that pre-mlp ep1 celestia and luna vibe.
~~~
while not all symptoms/parts of youngest child syndrome may not apply to leona, there's still a good few that do apply to him.
does he actually have it? no clue. again, i am NOT a psychologist, so i genuinely have no idea, but if you want to headcanon it, it's fine, just don't go around stating it as fact (cause it most likely won't be).
add in what you guys think, cause i'm genuinely curious about what you all have to say about it.

HETEROSEXUAL CIS-PEOPLE LOOK HERE
Tumblr media
Snaps my fingers at you as you scroll past this post
Look at me. Listen.
I'm not the best at serious posts, but that article up there reminded me of how important it is that people like you stand up for us. So hold on while I try to get this out of my mushy end-of-work-day brain.
We could fight this fight ourselves for decades trying to reach the equal laws, gender affirming trans healthcare that doesn't have a 2-5+ soul-eating years of waiting time, medical care with equal knowledge of lgbtqia+ bodies, and, what is often forgotten, inclusion in the little everyday areas of life like our way of speaking or things being set up or designed with the existence of queer people in mind.
But you joining in could get us there so much faster.
The power you have as a hetero cis person is that you set the standard for what is seen as the average way of treating us among other hetero cis people. You have been given the power of deciding what's "normal" and I'm begging you to use it.
Richard Green is a great example of to what extent your actions can help our situation, and smaller ways of support still add up to a great impact on society, and could make the days of the queer people you interact with.
Educate yourself before you speak up, but don't be silent.

Dp x dc AU: the watchtower gives out very strictly limited passes for visitors. They don’t need the world knowing that their HQ is in space after all, but sometimes family needed to visit.
Batman was the one to install the day pass system back when Dick was Robin- he needed the excuse to send Dick home to Alfred after a certain amount of time has passed and it just stuck. Unless you were a full time member, day passes were the best you got. Engineers and other supportive staff that weren’t members weren’t afforded day passes however- but Jazz is determined to be the one exception.
Jazz Fenton has been a psychologist for the JL for a year now (she just had a very productive performance review, thank you very much) and it’s been killing her to not tell Danny her office is in space. They do weekly dinners that he portals in for, and he knows that she takes a Zeta tube to work, but he’s technically not allowed to know that her office is a satellite. So, she sets a meeting with the man who started the system in the first place.
Batman is hard to read for most but she’s been his therapist for a while now, and she can tell he’s at least considering her request. Dinah couldn’t speak more kindly on Jazz and she’s been an asset to the JL in many ways since she was hired. Jazz’ arguments aren’t preposterous either- she’s submitted all of his identification papers, his background check, his job description and all of his friends names. She assured him that Danny will be able to keep a secret but when pressed she doesn’t reveal if he has any of his own.
Turns out, months of back and forth and negotiations were going be basically worthless- the second Danny got his little wrist band day pass, made it up via the zeta tube and got presented the view of Earth from the observation deck: he immediately transformed. Like zero caution, just went ghost and hyper fixated on the stars.
“You could have mentioned your Brother being Phantom. He’s been an ally to us for a while.” Batman grumbles in the way that only his family and she can tell through his deadpan.
“Yeah, I just thought that would’ve been a second visit conversation.”

One of Jonathan Crane's last patients before he began his experiments with fear gas was a young boy, barely out of his toddler years, who'd wake up every night screaming from intense nightmares.
Jonathan could still recognize that boy over a decade later as the boy was wheeled into Arkham Asylum, strapped to a gurney. Danny Fenton shot him a tired grin. "Hey, Doc! You mind if we start holding sessions again? I got a lot more tangible fears I need to work through this time."

Jazz wasn't crazy. People might argue that burning her childhood home to the ground with her parents still inside would be an indicator of insanity. But how else was she supposed to react after coming back home from college to find out her parents had brutally killed her brother via vivisection?
Dying her hair blonde wasn't crazy either before anyone asked. Plenty of girls dyed their hair when they needed a change. Besides, she could never live with herself if she kept the same hair color as that vile woman.
Admittedly Jazz would have to secede moving to Gotham had been a little crazy but it was the perfect place to start fresh and blend in despite her "quirks". She had even picked out a nice new identity for herself.
Clearly Jazz was not crazy as she had managed to land a job at Arkham Asylum as a psychiatrist. If she were really insane would they have ever hired her? No they wouldn't have.
Jazz was not crazy. She was very much sane. Just like her precious Mr. J.

Half-brother?!?!????
Prompt ig. Don't have enough knowledge to pull it off.
So, Dp stuff happen. AGIT too. So PP is gone and forgotten.
ANYWAY. Time passes, and after another huge battle of Ghosts, Maddie dies. Jack is distraught. He wasn't the most attentive parent before and had completely stopped trying to be one after that.
Danny was 17 and Jazz was 19 when they woke up to a small note with an apology.
Jack moved away. He was in his late 40s, the Ghosts were never his biggest interest tbh, it was Maddie and he loved her and her interests to bits. Now that the driving force was gone he just saw no point.
He got back into Uni. Got a degree and started travelling to different sights.
There he met Janet Drake and the rest is history upto your interpretation.
Tim, when he becomes Robin, does a more thorough check of his family and finds out about the possibility that he might have siblings. Adult, independent siblings. He didn't know whether or not to reach out. If he even should. He found records of them searching for his father. Maybe they wouldn't at all be happy to learn about the fact that their dad had a whole new family...

I have begun watching The New hbomberguy Video
There's some fun bits, like "Where does--and I mean this as a compliment--the most fuckable twink I've ever seen in my life get off telling me how to manage my T-levels?"
But like... man.
I think one of the things that bother me about the Internet Historian case is that it seems like, if the guy had just reached out to Mental Floss, it could have been a really cool collaboration.
He could have just. Fucking asked. Cross-advertized it with the magazine telling their readers "Now this fan favorite is narrated by [internet famous person] with some amazing animation, based on the writing of [our guy.]"
