I read this story today because everything feels hard and heavy. So I wanted something short by an author I know writes well. I have read and enjoyed some of this author's longer fics (the Roommate is a classic).
This story wasn't what I was expecting. I went back to check if it has archive warnings at one point. It doesn't, and actually it shouldn't. It's a powerful read though. It didn't give me the fluff injection I maybe needed today, but it did lift me completely out of my own head, which I probably needed even more.

In which Benny owns a coffee shop and has a pie addict as well as a weirdo in a trench-coat among his regulars.
Who doesn’t love a meet-cute in a coffee shop? This fic is short & sweet, and told entirely from Benny’s POV. Plus, it contains as much mutual pining as will physically fit in 2.4k!
Benny is as sweet as his pecan pie as he (not so subtly) tries to pair together two of his regulars, Dean and Cas. Elizabeth plays the straight-man to Benny’s romantic, and they have a wonderful sibling-energy, bickering from the sidelines.
The major misunderstanding comes when Dean grabs a coffee with Sam. Castiel, of course, gets the wrong impression.
"Castiel didn't show for nearly a week after that - much to Dean's very obvious distress (in Benny's opinion; Elizabeth told him he was delusional)."
This fic is so heartwarming and cozy, it feels like taking a sip of your favorite hot beverage. The perfect story for a lazy weekend of fluff!

And Steve's whole life changes again.
Why it's being recced: This story is a beautiful deep dive into Steve’s life and the way he feels about adjusting to a new century, himself and Captain America. It's enhanced by food, Jewish culture, the Barnes Deli, queerness, disability, Brooklyn, and the love Steve and Bucky find with each other. The writing takes you by the hand and leads you through the story, through the feelings it evokes. This is truly everything I could ever want from a Stucky fic.

In which Steven G. Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, gets a roommate. Who rapidly turns into his "roommate"—in the euphemistic sense of the word.
It takes SHIELD and the rest of the Avengers an absurd amount of time to notice.
Why it's being recced: This is a wonderful story about people only seeing what they want to see and also Steve being seen for who he is by Bucky, when others don't. The fic also goes into privacy and how people assume someone like Steve doesn't deserve it. Though, of course, Bucky does think so. The characterization of Steve and Bucky is spot on in this. I also really enjoyed the multiple POV's. It added to the premise of the story and it was interesting to have a glimpse into different characters' heads.
Cynics are Simply Thwarted Romantics by Reccea (Unrated, No Archive Warnings Apply, 13,746 words, Archive Locked)
"It could be alien technology," Natasha offered, folding her arms over her chest. "Something he stumbled on. They're still finding things from the Chitauri so it's not impossible. But the simplest answer is the most likely."

Why it's being recced: This is a fun and compelling story, filled with magic, true love's kiss and wondering whether the love you feel for someone is requited or not. The friendship between Sam, Bucky, and Steve is also wonderful in this and the ending of the story makes me smile.

That is until one night, Natasha drags Steve out to a charity music concert by some hotshot singer that Steve has never actually heard of (which would surprise exactly no one, seeing as Steve is still partial to his records and his radio plays). And as soon as Steve lays eyes on Grammy-award winning musician and international heartthrob James Barnes for the very first time, suddenly he wonders if maybe dating wouldn’t be so bad after all. Dating James Barnes, specifically, that is. The question is just: how does one go about that? Especially one like Steve, who’s never wooed anybody in his century-long life, let alone a man. Let alone a man with long, dark hair, tattoos all over his arms, and a fanbase that rivals Steve’s own.
It’s not like he can just go up to him and say something like, "You and me babe, how about it?"
Why it's being recced: This is a really fun story and Steve and Bucky are so cute in it. I loved how Steve just immediately was completely blown away by Bucky’s beauty. I also really like fics that incorporate music the way this fic does. Music has such a way of changing our lives and this fic felt like that. I also liked how vivid the descriptions are in this story.
A Long, Long Way by thepinupchemist (Teen and Up, No Archive Warnings Apply, 5,595 words)
Post-Thanos, post-Captain America, post-Nomad, Steve Rogers is lost. He takes a Volkswagen bus on a self-discovery tour of the United States.
When Steve hits a bicyclist in the Rocky Mountains, he meets the love of his life.
Why it's being recced: I think road trip fics are fun and this one certainly delivers. There's humor, there's sweetness, and the characterization is spot on. I also loved the hype for Cap!Sam and all the references to books.

Driving 101
Growing up, Steve never learnt how to drive, never had either the opportunity or the need. Unfortunately, as Captain America, everyone just assumed that Steve knew such ‘basic’ skills. But that’s fine, how hard can driving a jeep actually be?
All you need are the go pedal and the steering wheel.
… neither his passengers nor the mechanics appreciated his habit of stopping the jeep by running it into either a tree or the enemy.
All you need are the go pedal and the steering wheel and the handbrake.
… the serum massively boosted his night vision so he never gave it much thought, but then one of the guys finally showed him where the button is, and that does make things rather easier.
All you need are the go pedal, the steering wheel, the handbrake, and the headlights.
… he’ll admit that the lights come in handy, if just to warn people of their arrival when they get back to camp late, but if only there was a way to do that during the day?
All you need are the go pedal, the steering wheel, the handbrake, the headlights, and the horn.
(He is a bit disappointed that he never quite manages to get his head around the gearshift, aka the ‘go faster’ stick.)
All in all, he feels like he’s got this driving business down pat. He can get his team (mostly) safely within the vicinity of the latest HYDRA base. Then the jeep barrelling full-speed at the gates – lights on and horn blaring, rigged to explode on impact – makes for a great distraction!
Of course, there’s the slight challenge of getting everyone back out again. But it’s fine. There’s usually something they can commandeer, and even in Hydra’s modified vehicles he can usually find the go pedal and steering wheel.
Easy. He’s totally got this driving thing all worked out.
It was only decades later, that Steve discovered that the other Howlies all learnt to drive specifically so that, as much as possible, he didn’t have to.

The guqin on his back has not played Inquiry for his own selfish needs in a while, perhaps the last time was a decade or so ago, for now after hundreds of years Lan Wangji has at last given up whatever hope he had left.

Wei Wuxian finds himself in the past, a few months before the Gusu Lan lectures, and decides that his best shot at hiding his trauma fixing the future is faking his own kidnapping and asking Wen Qing who all he needs to kill before she or someone she trusts is in charge of QishanWen. Clearly, he thought this through.

The petite redhead sitting next to them cocked her head to the side and pulled her phone out of her handbag. Beautiful Face just looked kind of pained, so Bucky redirected. He was a gentleman. He could take a hint. No hitting on beautiful guys who were uncomfortable with that sort of thing, no matter how lickable their jawlines were.
“Hello,” he repeated, doing his best to mind his manners. “I’m very sorry to bother you. Can I have a piggy-back ride?”
