“Are you serious?!” Annabeth yelled, a few of your other siblings backing her up.
You however were standing infront of the full length mirror inside your cabin fixing your outfit which was a pair of bellebottoms and a camp sweater. “Look Annie i get your our counselor and your the smartest out of us all but your not the smartest when it comes to relationships”
“And now she’s starting to sound like an Aphrodite kid” Malcom your brother rolled his eyes before returning to his book. You shot him a hateful look. “All right fine Your right I don’t get relationships like you but I do know clarisse”
“Really?” You sarcastically spoke just wanting the argument to be over. Grabbing some hoops you were deciding between the two different pairs. “Yeah, Clarisse is a hateful arrogant and rude person. She makes fun of our cabin with her siblings and didn’t she use to make fun of you to”
Deciding on the star shape hoop you put the earring in. “Fine! Fine ok I get it but I promise you clarisse is not like that ok she’s sweet, she loves me Annie why don’t you get that” you sighed facing your sister.
The shorter girl crossed her arms, leaning against a desk inside the studious cabin. “Because she’s a bitch”
“Language!”
“I’m 12 why are you giving me shit for cussing you cuss”
“Because I’m 16 you’ve still got two years before you morally can curse now stop.. damn about to make me get Luke” you sighed shaking your head. Facing back to the mirror you analyzed your look.
Annabeth rolled her eyes looking away for some time before facing you once again. “I still don’t trust you being alone with her..”
After finally having enough you turned towards the wiser girl. “Know what fine you can spy on us during our date today, then you’ll see she’s not such a terrible person and you’ll finally get off my ass… deal” you crossed your arms looking down at annabeth.
Your younger sister looked around for a moment feeling somewhat threatened by you before nodding in defeat. “Great” you sighed stepping back, grabbing a small drawstring bag and a book on the stars, you threw on your shoes before leaving.
——
You were sitting in a clearing in the woods, a blanket set out with some strawberries and a pack of Dr Pepper you bought from the Hermes cabin. Annabeth was positioned behind a tree with her cap of invisibility on.
Eventually clarisse showed up. “Five minutes late” you jokingly chastised her.
“Shut up I’m on time” she scoffed sitting down beside you on the blanket. Pulling you into her some she kissed you softly. Her hands finding themselves on your waist
Bringing yourself back you leaned over grabbing a soda, handing it over to the curly haired girl. “Mmhm so how was running around like a fool for the entire morning?”
Clarisse rolled her eyes taking the drink In a harsh joking manner. “First of all its called training and secondly it was actually alot of fun, how was staying up all night to just watch some stupid dots in the sky”
Scrunching your nose at the girl you gave her a sarcastic look. “Yeah you think your so funny huh”
“Yeah I do”
“Mmhm” you knew clarisse was looking at your lips— she wasn’t subtle about it. Tired of her just imagining it you leaned in kissing her again. The playful banter between you two faded away while clarisse deepened the kiss
As much as you wanted to makeout with your girlfriend you weren’t doing it infront of your sister. Pulling back you placed a hand on clarisses arm while darting your eyes to some trees around you with a smile.
The girl furrowed her eyebrows but made a signal to her head almost mimicking a hat. Nodding you knew clarisse understood annabeth was spying on you two.
“Whatever this is stupid” clarisse gave you a teasing look. “What being on a date with your girlfriend? Yeah it’s so stupid” you responded in the same tone.
Clarisse rolled her eyes. “You know that’s not. What I meant” shaking her head you watched as clarisse reached over to her spear grabbing a plastic bag.
Handing it over to you you looked inside. “No way clarisse did you”
“Yeah I did. Your not gonna embarrass me about it if I own up to it” she continued to mess with you. Opening the bag you smiled as your girlfriend made you chocolate chip cookies with the nymphs in the kitchen. “Your the sweetest you know” you becoming flustered while you looked at the treats.
She just rolled her eyes with a smile, laying down clarisse moved around to lay her head in your lap. “Woah careful clarisse you might admit you actually like me a boring Athena kid remember”
“Mmhm Same can be said about you what was that about me being a bitchy ares kid?” She bit back. Flicking her forehead lightly just to get back at her.
You smiled while playing with one of the girls curls. You loved clarisse, wanting to proudly say it but worried you’d scare the girl off so for now you’d settle on just this.. cute dates with her, sneaking into her cabin to spend the night with her and just enjoying the silence with her.
After some time you knew annabeth had left after all she had gotten all the proof she needed. Clarisse knew it to.
“I love you” it finally left your lips. You noticed clarisses body tense making you regret the decision immediately. Clarisse however grabbed your hand kissing your knuckles. “I guess I love you to”
“Shut up”
“Why You Said you loved me”

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
final piece of writing from me in 2023 besties! have a safe and happy new years eve x like a dumb rom com (2) II kyra cooney-cross x catley!reader
"well good morning little mrs cooney-cross." you bumped into teyah who was leaving as you arrived, passing one another in the hall as you gave her a playful shove.
"shut up!" you rolled your eyes, chatting with her for a few minutes before parting ways as she headed down to the carpark and you off toward the apartment she shared with kyra.
"waiting for me are we, bit eager?" you teased seeing your girlfriend already leaning in the open doorframe as a grin broke out on her face and she pushed her phone back in her pocket.
"nah i'm actually waiting for my thursday girlfriend. you're friday through monday, remember?" kyra smirked as you punched her shoulder and she pulled you inside, lips on yours as the door was kicked closed behind her.
"kyra lillee!" you shouted forty five minutes later, the brunette yelling back from the kitchen as she filled up your water bottles for training. "come here!" you shouted again with a huff as she appeared in the doorway of the bathroom behind you with a raised eyebrow.
"look what you did!" you moved your hair out of the way and pointed accusingly to your neck, frown deepening at the amused smile which curled onto your girlfriends lips as her eyes roamed over the hickies littering the right side of your neck.
"oops?" the younger girl smiled innocently as you mumbled under your breath. "do you have concealer?" you questioned as she shook her head and bit her bottom lip. "not in your shade babe."
"kyra!" you groaned, hands gripping the sink as your head fell forward to press against the mirror. "in my defence you didn't exactly stop me." the midfielder pressed herself into your back as you shrugged her off. "not helping!"
"we could swing past yours sometime between coffee, breakfast and training? you have concealer right?" kyra stepped past and pulled herself to sit up on the sink. "well yeah but steph will be there, and there's no chance she doesn't notice these. she notices when i've got my shinpads on the wrong feet." you sighed, letting out another groan.
"mm i could distract her? let you dart inside, just say you forgot your boots or something." your girlfriend suggested, poking you with her foot as you swatted it away.
"i'm not you ky i don't forget things." you had to let out a smile as she kicked you again. "i'm sorry baby, really. forgive me?" she jumped down and grabbed your hips, pulling your body into hers with a pout.
"only because i can't stay mad at that stupidly cute face of yours."
~
"so we go in, you distract her, i go to my room and cover them and we leave asap." you recounted as you pulled up outside the house, parking on the curb as to not alert her to your presence right away.
"kyra!" you smacked her when she didn't respond, pulling her head out of the clouds. "right! yes sorry, good plan babe." your girlfriend zoned back in, the two of you getting out of the car and heading up the driveway.
the first hurdle came when you were too slow grabbing your keys out, hearing someone start to unlock the door from the other side as kyra quickly yanked your hood over your head and you hurried to fix your hair.
"hi?" you gave a small sigh of relief seeing it was dean who opened the door, pushing past him and making a beeline for your room. "hey what-" you heard steph as you zoomed past her, ducking under her arm and into your room, kicking the door closed.
"i thought you left already?" you heard your sister call out, kyra making quick work to engage her in conversation as you hunted around for your concealer.
"of course when i need it i can't fucking find it." you grumbled to yourself as you fussed about in your makeup bag, finally pulling it out from the bottom. "fucking kyra." you mumbled to yourself again as you tugged your hood off.
"little leech." you huffed, hearing her laughter ring out from the living room followed by stephs annoyed groans about something she'd likely said to wind your sister up, a skill that never seemed to be out of stock for your girlfriend.
making quick time to cover them up as best as you could you nodded at the job, grabbing one of your textbooks off your desk and opening the door. "ky lets go!" you called out, the brunette detaching herself from steph.
"you're such a pest! no wonder the two of you are thick as thieves, both just as irritating as one another." steph groaned shoving the girls head to the side who grinned. "why the rush back?" your sister questioned, grabbed your arm as you tried to duck past her again.
"forgot this. need to study today!" you smiled holding up your textbook and grabbing kyra. "didn't you already have your sociology exam?" steph questioned with a frown, crossing her arms as you struggled to think of a response.
"some chapters are relevant in her next exam, crossover stuff yanno!" kyra chirped slinging an arm over your shoulder and turning the two of you toward the door.
"well well look whose rubbing off on her little best mate, you gonna hit the books too ky?" steph teased, leaning in the doorway with a smirk as the two of you headed down the driveway.
"i may just surprise you yet stephanie!" kyra yelled over her shoulder with a grin, though your sister wasn't yet to know just how surprising kyra really could be.
~
"come with me please." you whined as caitlin grabbed your bicep, steering you away from the change rooms as everyone else headed for the cafeteria. "cait i'm starving!" you groaned as she tugged you into one of the recovery rooms.
"so you've told steph about you and kyra then?" the older girl questioned with a raised eyebrow, crossing her arms as you gave her a strange look. "no. why do i look like i've been yelled at today?" you grinned but it quickly faded at her lack of joining in.
"well you might want to consider it because she is definitely going to notice those and have questions."
"shit!" you cursed as caitlin pointed to your neck and you grabbed out your phone camera which confirmed your worries. you'd admittedly forgotten all about the little marks from this morning and with a media session upcoming a lot of the girls had showered in between training and lunch, yourself included.
"its not funny!" you groaned as caitlin finally broke her stern facade and doubled over with a laugh. "foordy help!" you whined, wincing a little as you poked the angry marks and cursing your girlfriend under your breath.
"just put a hoodie on and sit far away from steph. then maybe say your prayers?" the older girl laughed, ruffling your hair and leaving the room as you trudged after her, darting into the change rooms again to grab a hoodie.
you let out a yell as someone grabbed you and shouted boo, the all too familiar laughter which followed having you roll your eyes and shove her away. "you're such a child." you shook your head grabbing your hoodie.
"weren't saying that this morning were we babe?" kyra grinned, glancing around before her hands settled on your cheeks and she pulled you in for a kiss, unable to stop the smile which formed as you did.
"oh well hello!" you jumped apart from each other with bright red faces, heads whipping around to meet the amused gazes of vic and alessia. "will you two be coming for lunch or just eating each others faces?" vic smirked as alessia chuckled beside her.
"don't tell steph." you warned the two older girls who waved it off, stating they'd 'known for ages' and pulling the two of you away with them, all four of you falling into conversation.
following caitlins advice you dragged your friends to sit with you as far away from your sister as you could who gratefully was too busy goofing off with jen and beth to notice you..
though that peace of course didn't last.
"stop!" you whispered, ghost of a smile on your face as kyras hand wandered up your leg, teasingly pinching and poking at your skin as instead the two of you resorted to playing footsies.
"oi!" katie scowled turning around as kyra kicked the back of her chair, pointing to you as katie smacked your leg and you glared at your girlfriend who quickly kissed your cheek and gave you a grin, your elbow nudging into her side as jonas continued to talk.
"do you wanna hang out this arvo?" kyra murmured, grabbing your hand in hers and hiding it in her lap as you smiled. "i have to study, one more exam remember?" you whispered back as she pouted and you shook your head, turning back to the screen with a smile, the two of you still tapping and kicking one another as time went by.
it was at the end of the media session where things started to go a little pear shaped, the lights turning on and kyra quickly dropping your hand, but you failed to see your sisters narrowed eyes a few rows back.
dismissed for the day everyone wasted no time collecting their stuff and heading off, most in small groups or pairs as carpooling was a popular option among the team.
"steph!" you yelped as your sister grabbed you, pulling you back into the room by your hood as everyone else headed out. "what the hell is that on your neck?" you paled at her firm glare, warning you out of anything that wasn't the truth.
"nothing! i burnt myself with the straightener." you rolled your eyes and tried to leave but she held a firm grip on you which you couldn't break. "yeah bullshit. i wasn't born yesterday those are hickies, who gave them to you?" steph asked with a glare as you struggled to pull away.
"none of your business, get off!" you huffed, wrenching yourself free and storming off. "have you got a secret girlfriend or something?" your sister scoffed, grabbing the back of your hoodie as you pushed her away.
"just leave it steph! its nothing." you rolled your eyes, her questions following you into the change rooms as you ignored her. "oi! mum and dad made me promise to look after you, you're too young to be seeing someone." steph cornered you by your cubby as you rolled your eyes and a few of the girls looked over curiously.
"i'm twenty one fucking years old steph i'm not a baby and if i want to get a hickey off someone? i'll get a hickey." you grabbed your bag and shoved past her, ignoring the ooh's from beth who fell silent at a firm look from steph.
thankfully she didn't follow after you and with kyra grabbing a lift home with teyah you wasted no time driving off and heading home, determined to get there and lock yourself away before your sister returned home to no doubt continue the argument.
sure enough you weren't even ten minutes into studying, hauled up in your room with snacks and water that you heard her footsteps thump down the hall. you didn't even have dean as a buffer given he was at his own training this afternoon.
with a roll of your eyes you slipped your headphones on, purposefully pretending you didn't notice when your door swung open and calvin bounded in as you gave him a scratch and gently pushed him off your bed.
"what?" you huffed as your sister yanked your headphones off, holding them out of your reach as you tried to take them back. "who gave them to you?" steph asked, copping a filthy glare as she stretched taller and continued to hold your headphones away.
"none of your business and the more you ask me the more pissed off you're gonna get me stephanie." you warned seriously, snatching your headphones back as she lowered them slightly. "i need to study." you spoke bluntly, pulling them back on and sitting back down at your desk with your back turned.
steph watched on warily with words in the back of her throat before she decided it wasn't worth it, and when you glanced over your shoulder a few moments later the door was closed and she was nowhere to be seen.
with your sister not reappearing for a few hours you used the time to zone in on your studies, your phone sitting on do not disturb on your bed you missed the messages from both your girlfriend and your teammates checking in.
eventually you looked up from your textbook with tired eyes and realised it had gone dark outside. dropping your highlighter and closing your laptop you stretch your back over your chair and sigh in relief as it cracks a few times.
pulling your headphones down around your neck you roll your chair back toward your bed and grab your phone, sighing at the multitude of notifications, too tired to reply to anyone bar kyra.
you noticed two missed calls from your mum and frown checking the time in melbourne realising she'd likely have headed to bed now. sending her a few messages in apology explaining you were studying and would call her first thing tomorrow you slipped your phone into the pocket of your hoodie and stood.
again stretching out your cramped limbs your eyes scan over your planner, plucking off a few different sticky notes with a satisfied nod. your final exam isn't until monday and with the match on saturday you know you at least have tomorrow and sunday free to try and cram in the rest.
though this exam was your last it also happened to be the most content heavy, and though the reward of five weeks off loomed ever closer you knew you had one final push until you hit the finish line.
"done for tonight?" you jumped not having even heard your door open, glancing over to see your sister lingering in the entrance. "yeah. i've still got tomorrow and sunday, i think if i read another word its just going to go in one ear and out the other." you sighed running your finger down what you had left to revise.
"is that how it works when you read something?" you looked up to meet stephs amused smile, but seeing the look in her eyes you know it was as close to an olive branch as you were going to get.
"yeah wouldn't expect you to understand, its hard being the smart one." you quipped back with a smile seeing steph relax a little at your response. "come on, dinners done and calvin misses you." steph spoke with a nod down the hall.
"no dean?" you asked seeing as there was only two bowls of food dished up on the kitchen counter. "out with his team. which means we can watch big brother without his running commentary!" steph grinned handing you a fork as you grabbed the bowl of curry.
"this is so scripted, there is no way someones that dumb!" you mocked his voice. "nah why is she crying? shes doing it for the cameras!" steph joined in, the two of you taking a seat on the lounge with a laugh as steph flicked on big brother.
"hey." you looked over to her a couple of hours later, the two of you now watching a premier league match as calvin slept with his head in your lap, bowls of dinner long washed up and finished. "mm?" you hummed looking back to the tv and groaning as man city scored.
"i'm really proud of you."
"for what?" you frowned at her as she rolled her eyes at your defensive response. "juggling everything. uni, football, living in another country, media commitments, sponsors. it's a lot, but somehow you seem to be managing and thats very admirable!" your sister complimented with a soft smile as you pulled a face.
"you're so weird steph." you shook your head, scratching behind calvins ears as the older girl scoffed. "i'm being nice! that was a very nice thing to say!" she defended with a scowl. "well stop being nice its weird! makes me uncomfortable." you grumbled, never having been great at taking compliments.
"say thank you and tell me you love me." your sister demanded as now you scoffed, ignoring her request and focusing on the tv. "say it!" steph demanded, kicking you as you remained quiet.
"stephanie get off!" you yelled as suddenly her body crash tackled into yours, poor calvin diving off the lounge and moving toward his bed to avoid the squabble.
"you might be bigger now but i'm still older." steph grunted as you struggled to push her off, your arms eventually pinned under her knees as she sat on top of you.
"what are you twelve? get off!" you whined, squriming beneath her and trying to buck her taller frame off without any luck. "no. say thank you and tell me you love me!" your sister ordered, fingers digging into your ribs as you squealed.
"you've very comfortable and you're only making this harder for yourself." steph sighed pressing more of her weight down on top of you as you wheezed slightly. "fine! thank you, love you." you huffed with a roll of your eyes.
"like ya mean it!" steph scoffed in offence, crossing her arms and glaring down at you as you let out a heavy exhale. "thank you for your kind words stephanie, i love you."
"sorry couldn't hear you, bit louder?" "steph!"
"i love you too peanut." your sister cooed getting off of you though not before tightly squeezing your cheeks and shaking your head side to side. "i wish i was adopted." you mumbled with a huff, both of settling back into your previous positions.
"i already told you, we can arrange that if you like?"
~
"ky!" you grunted as she launched herself onto your back, arms locking around your neck and subtly kissing your cheek as you shifted her, continuing about with your lap. "people are going to take videos of this." you sighed knowingly.
"when do they not?" your girlfriend challenged though she slid off of you anyway, falling into step as katie and caitlin appeared on your other side. the four of you conversing about the game you watched with an amused smile as kyra yanked caitlins hair out of its bun and sprinted off, the older girl racing after her.
"so." katies arm slipped over your shoulder and you sighed giving her a look. "you gonna tell your sister about the two of ya then?" katie asked with a smile as you groaned. "not you too! your girlfriends already onto me about it and you saw how she reacted to the hickies." you huffed defensively, turning away so no one could possibly read your lips.
"which is exactly why ya gotta tell her! the longer ya leave it the worse it'll be because you didn't tell her." katie lectured and you sighed knowing there was some truth to her words. "its not that easy! she's insanely overbearing and overprotective, she won't take it well."
"you're twenty one years old catley, whats she gonna do? ground ya?" katie teased as you shoved her playfully. "i do still live with her." you reminded as katie shrugged. "so move out then!"
"let me guess, you can't?" the irishwoman smiled knowingly as you struggled to come up with a response and you looked up as kyra called you over. "seriously though, tell her!" katie squeezed you before heading off for the change rooms as you caught up with kyra and teyah.
"you coming over for dinner? teyahs cooking!" your girlfriend grinned as your friend rolled her eyes. "you're welcome to. we're ordering in!" teyah corrected smacking kyra as the two of them pushed and shoved one another making you chuckle.
"as much as i do enjoy free front row seats to your roomie wrestling matches, i have to study." you reminded as kyra groaned going limp in teyahs arms. "i'm losing to a stack of paper, some pens and sticky notes, unbelievable!" your girlfriend complained as teyah shoved her off and wandered into the change rooms.
"come on. just for dinner? then i'll drive you home. or i can help you study?" she offered eagerly with a smile, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet as you smiled and moved a strand of hair out of her face.
"no you can't." you shook your head as kyra groaned again, slumping into the wall with a pout. "that won't work. my final exam is on monday ky and i have so much content to cover before then." you sighed apologetically, tugging her bottom lip out from her teeth.
"tomorrow?" "studying." "you can take a break! i'll take you out for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, just a drive, anything!" "as sweet as you are, i can't ky."
"can you hear that?" kyra questioned as you frowned, shaking your head. "thats my heart slowly cracking." your girlfriend sighed deeply tapping her chest as you punched her in the arm. "you're supposed to be supportive!" you shook your head with a laugh.
"i am! i'm supporting your health and well being by encouraging you don't burn yourself out and you take breaks in between your studies!" "mmm a likely story cooney-cross. come on!"
with that you linked arms with her and dragged her into the change rooms.
~
"here she is! the scholar herself!"
you laughed as you exited the building, feeling about a tonne lighter now you knew your exam was over and you had five weeks off from your studies.
you still had a whole host of commitments including international break so it was hardly 'time off' but it meant your list of things to juggle grew just that little bit shorter for the time being.
"you didn't need to do this you know?" you grinned as your sister handed you a bouquet of flowers, having requested she get the day off training to chauffeur you to your final exam which jonas was fine with.
"course we did. this is a victory for us too you know? no more sticky notes all over the house to pick up, no more stress head by the minute schedule to navigate, no more late nights helping you revise-" dean tugged you into a hug and ruffled your hair having come along in support.
"excuse me you didn't do any of that mate, that was all me!" steph scoffed punching him in the arm and pulling you into a hug as dean grabbed your flowers for you so they wouldn't be squished. "so so so proud of you peanut." you couldn't help but smile despite the nickname you detested.
"i appreciate all the support, really." you mumbled into her shoulder before you broke apart, starting the walk back to the car. "i don't know how you do it, just reading your planner gives me a headache." dean whistled as he fished out the keys.
"breathing and walking at the same time gives you a headache." you grinned, ducking behind your sister as he swung at you playfully and slipped into the drivers seat.
"oh yes!" you exhaled happily seeing the bagged up food waiting for you on the backseat as you closed your door. "all your favourites." steph chuckled as you eagerly pulled out the first box and a fork, the three of you chattering as dean drove out of camden and back toward st albans.
"does this mean we can have a celebratory bonfire and burn all your books?" dean grinned wolfishly as you parked in the driveway. "no you meat head i still have a year of study left to do after this." you laughed as steph rolled her eyes.
"and we don't burn books!" she shoved her fiance who held his hands up in defence. "and when exactly was the last time you even opened let alone read a book, stephanie?" dean challenged, sprinting off toward the front door as steph raced after him and you shook your head with a smile.
balancing your bag, flowers and leftover food in hand you made your way up after them, almost stacking it up the stairs as you caught your footing and exhaled, stepping inside.
rounding the corner you were met with an almighty cheer and this time you did fall to the floor, landing on your ass with a wince as your face burnt bright red and lia hurried to help you up.
"what the hell?" you grinned in surprise seeing nearly the entire team packed into the living room, half sitting on top of one another as streamers and balloons decorated the walls.
"we all wanted to celebrate you and your achievements." steph smiled, taking your food and flowers for you. "i haven't graduated yet!" you laughed as music switched on and you made your way around the room greeting all the girls.
"i'm just gonna chuck my stuff in my room." you notified steph who nodded and fell back into conversation with some of the others. no sooner had you shut your door did a foot kick it back open as a body slid in behind you and it closed with a soft click.
"hello lover!" the midfielder grinned wofishly and you laughed as she tackled you down onto your bed, attacking every inch of your face with soft kisses. "ky!" you managed to get out, your stomach starting to hurt from laughing as she hovered over you.
"did anyone see you come in here?" "nah i was super stealthy, im like a spy babe."
"i am also very very very proud of you, and now you're free!" your girlfriend cheered and you jolted as she pulled a party popper from her back pocket and let it off with a bang, streamers raining down on top of the pair of you.
"well for five weeks." "hey don't spoil this for me!" "oh for you? so sorry baby, how selfish of me." "exactly! horridly mean girl you are, very hot though so it balances out i guess."
"shut up and let someone else have the last word for once would you?" you smiled grabbing her shirt in your hand and tugging her mouth down to properly meet with yours.
"i missed you so much." kyra mumbled out as your hands tangled in her hair and she shifted, laying down beside you as her hands moved to the small of your back pulling your body flush into hers.
"its been three days!" you chuckled in between kisses. "i know! nearly killed me." she retorted, sending you a cheeky grin before pressing her lips back to your own, the two of you making up for lost time.
"we should really get ba-" but your words fell short as your girlfriend took your bottom lip between her teeth, dragging it down teasingly before pressing your mouths together again in a feverish kiss.
in reflection, kyra really really wished she let you finish your sentence.
"hey peanut we're ordering pizza what do you-" your door swung open as you pushed yourself away from kyra but it was much to late as stephs eyes widened and caitlin peeked over her shoulder with a grimace.
"steffy-" you started as you and kyra sat up, caitlin motioning to your shirt from behind your sisters back as your eyes glanced down and you hurriedly pulled it back down where it had ridden up, kyra doing her best to smooth out her hair from where your hands had been tangled through it.
"kyra go to the living room please." her words were deathly calm and that almost made it worse, your girlfriend looking at you then back to your sister whose eyes burned a hole in your head.
"go, its fine." you whispered, squeezing her hand as she nodded, still looking unsure as she stood. kyra hesitated as she tried to move past steph who adjusted her stance to block the doorway, looking the younger girl up and down wordlessly before moving out of the way as kyra scurried off.
"steph look i can-" you started quietly, stopping in your tracks at the look sent your direction. "hey maybe leave it for now, the whole teams here steph." caitlin stepped in, grabbing your sisters wrist who glanced between the two of you.
"you knew already, didn't you." she directed the words toward caitlin though never broke her hard stare toward you as caitlin sighed, the lack of answer the only answer steph needed.
"we'll talk about this once everyones left, get out of your room." and with that she was gone, striding off back down the hallway.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. This story and any recognizably named characters are based solely on dramatic portrayals of the characters from the series, not the real individuals they represent. All the respect to the actual service people who fought and died in the Second World War. Also, don't copy my writing without explicit permission. That includes you, you AI sonuvabitch.
Your heels clicked on the cobblestone streets, turning into the pub you’d heard so much about. You were out celebrating a very rare weekend off. The Brass had somehow allowed you and twenty other mechanics from base two days leave, so you took advantage of the opportunity and headed straight to London.
Your two best girlfriends from base were with you. Teresa was one of the toughest nurses you’d ever come across. She could give you a wide grin, crinkles around her hazel eyes, and reset a broken bone without breaking a sweat. It helps that she was already working towards becoming a nurse back in New Mexico, the war just sped along that process. You had bonded over your love of books, giving each other recommendations almost weekly.
You’d met Irene on the boat to England. She puked on your shoes almost thirty minutes exactly after leaving the port in New York. You gave a small grin, offering her a handkerchief and a piece of ginger candy and the rest was history. Finding out that she was a fellow mechanic was the icing on the cake. Coming in at a whopping five foot two, the spritely blonde could easily be found in a crowd with her loud Appalachian accent.
It seemed almost like fate for the three of you to have found each other. Being some of the few women on base naturally made you close, but you were closer with Irene and Teresa than any of the others. That’s not to say that you weren’t friends with any of the men, because you were. Friendly.
All three of you were dressed to the nines, in contradiction to your everyday work wear. You all got ready together in your hotel room, giggling while you applied makeup here, spritzed some perfume there. You all felt confident and were ready to have a good time. You spotted some familiar faces and made your way over towards them, your friends linked arm-in-arm with you. Lemmons was the first to greet you.
Of the fifty men on the ground crew, Sgt. Ken Lemmons was the most welcoming of them all. From the get-go, he didn’t care if you were a man or woman. He just wanted to know that you were capable. You were sure he had to go through some hazing because of his age, which probably changed his perspective on gatekeeping the job. This made earning and maintaining respect a lot easier for the women on your crew. We all came over with the same goal, it was better for all if we just helped each other out.
“Hey Birdie! Nice to see you out and about.”
Ah, the famed nickname. You tend to hum and sing under your breath when elbow-deep in a project. It helps you pass the time and clear your mind. Of course, the rest of the ground crew quickly caught on to this habit of yours, which quickly earned you the nickname “Birdie”. You, of course, never sing solo in public, so this confuses anyone who’s not around you while you’re working. But the name stuck, so here you are. Birdie.
Chairs are quickly cleared for you and your friends, which you all graciously take. You go up to buy some drinks, knowing what your friends like, and quickly return with your drinks of choice. Conversation flows, laughs are shared, and a few drinking games are played over the next hours. Teresa soon speaks up on a topic you’d been hoping to avoid.
“Do you think he’ll be here tonight?”
You shrug and look into your drink, “Dunno. Why does it matter?”
Irene, the ever supportive best friend that she is, backs up Teresa. “What do you mean ‘why’? This is your chance to finally make a move!”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You quickly deny, taking another sip.
An unladylike snort leaves Irene, “My ass! You and Major Egan have been making googly eyes at each other when you think the other’s not looking for months. I’m saying it’s time for you to perk your tits up, buck on over and ride that—!” You slam your drink on the table, pressing your hand over Irene’s mouth, heat rising to your cheeks in embarrassment.
“Are you insane?” You whisper harshly, looking around to make sure no one overheard you. You seem to be in the clear, which makes you calm down a bit. Irene pushes off your hand, takes a swig of her drink, and consults the person who started this whole conversation.
“Am I wrong?” You look to Teresa, who cringes slightly in agreement.
You gape at the pair of them. Normally, you were the median between the two girls who had vastly differing opinions. But this is what made them come to a consensus? Unbelievable.
“Look, I’m not saying that I don’t want to.” You start, which makes your friends nod encouragingly at you. “It’s just that… Is he really as interested as you think he is?”
They both groan and slump against each other, like they’d just run a marathon. Teresa sits up, scooching your chair in closer so that the three of you were in a private triangle, cut off from the rest of the group.
“Let’s look at the facts here, okay?” Teresa starts to tick off a finger with each point she and Irene make. But you seem to always have a rebuttal at the ready.
“He brings you coffee every morning.”
“I thought he does that for everyone.”
“He constantly fixes his hair when you’re around.”
“He takes care of his appearance!”
“He walks you to the mess hall every day for dinner.”
“We just happen to be going the same way. And we happen to have the same dinner schedule.”
“He read The Hobbit when you said how much you loved it.”
“He’s an adventurous guy, it’s an adventurous book, what’s not to like about it?”
“You two literally will walk and talk outside alone for hours.”
“A man can’t have a stimulating conversation with a woman?”
“He laughs at all your dumb jokes.”
“Hey! They’re not all dumb. Like, the one with the goose and the—”
“Point proven. Anyways! He has your picture in the inside pocket of his jacket.”
That one stops you in your tracks. You brain tries to justify this meaning but comes up blank.
“He…” You struggle with an excuse. “He…” Your best friends give victorious smirks in your direction.
“He… likes the extra padding in his jacket?” You stutter over what is possibly the most pathetic, sorry excuse you could have ever come up with.
“When are you gonna admit to yourself that he likes you? Like, actually truly likes you?”
You gave a sad sigh, letting the insecurity you were feeling deep down come to the surface. “I just… He’s just so…” You had stomped down your feelings for so long that it was becoming hard to articulate what exactly you’re feeling.
“He just seems so unreal. Like, of everyone he could have chosen, why me? I mean, I know I’m great. But you’ve seen the other girls on base. They’re all so beautiful, smart, classy… and none of them are covered in engine oil ninety percent of the time.” You looked down at your hands, specks of grease and oil peeking out from beneath your nail beds. It seems like it would never completely wash out, no matter how hard you scrubbed. You hadn’t even painted your nails for this weekend, knowing it would be money wasted come Monday morning when you’re back on the clock.
Teresa and Irene share a look that you don’t see, then come forward and grab each of your hands.
“The words you just used to describe those girls. All of that is you, Birdie. That and more. You being a mechanic doesn’t make you any less of a woman, and to hell with anyone else who thinks otherwise.”  You nodded in agreement, Irene’s words of encouragement slowly washing away your anxieties.
Teresa spoke up next, “You deserve someone who will rearrange the stars and the whole night sky for you. And I’m more than willing to bet that Major Egan is up for the job.”
“Besides, none of that 'unreal' stuff. At the end of the day, John Egan is nothing more than a man. If he can’t look past his nose and his d—" You gave a squeak to cover up the vulgar word Irene was about to blurt in public. She rolled her eyes fondly and continued.
“If he can’t see what you’re worth and make the effort to treat you a hundred times better than that? That’s on him. Not you. You know what you deserve, and you deserve everything you want. Absolutely everything.”
You sniffed, happy tears coming to your eyes. You brought your best friends in for a hug, thanking them profusely.
“Don’t sweat it,” Teresa grins into your shoulder “every girl needs to be pulled out of her well sometime.”
You pull back from the hug, grabbing your glass and tipping your head back, finishing the rest of your drink. “Even if he’s not gonna be here, let’s have a ball!” Your girlfriends cheer as the three of you go to the bar for refills.
One drink turns into two, which turns into a few more, and suddenly you’re buzzed. Your group are having a rambunctious time, Irene dancing by the local piano player. Once Irene looks over to you, she stops and whispers in the player’s ear. He nods, then starts a new tune. Irene starts up her voice, walking over to you and Teresa, encouraging you to join her.
The alcohol has loosened you up enough that you don’t feel the nausea you usually associate with being perceived, so you join in the harmonies you and your friends have practiced in your bunks at night.
He was a famous trumpet man from out Chicago way
He had a boogie style that no one else could play
He was the top man at his craft
But then his number came up and he was gone with the draft
Soon the whole pub was jumping and dancing along to the tune as you brought a new vibe to the pub. It was like a spark that started an entirely new night and everyone was eager to go on forever.
One song turns into an entire set, which ends with a full rendition of G.I. Jive, which had everyone singing along. It was a magical moment; made you feel like you were a part of something important.
Irene sidles up to you, giving you a hug. She says in your ear,
“I think it’s time to slow it down a bit. How about you sing that song I taught you.”
She means an old Appalachian folk song that’s been in her family for generations. You had heard her sing it one night and immediately loved the dark, but strong nature of the lyrics. It was an honor to learn it from her.
“I don’t know, it’s your family’s song and…”
“And I can’t think of anyone better to sing it to these soldiers.” You gave each other a look, her slight eyebrow raise gave you the courage to nod in acceptance. She smiled, hugging you again, her voice yelled out to the crowd.
“Birdie’s gonna sing solo!”
The announcement is met with raucous applause, Irene and Teresa shoving you towards a dodgy looking table. Crank offers a hand up, which you take gratefully. As you find your bearings on the tabletop, you quickly spin around and find all eyes on you.
The crackling energy in the air seemed to simmer, the fast-beating hearts of the pubgoers recognizing a moment to acknowledge you. Nausea starts to make an appearance, but a deep breath quells the sensation within you for the time being.
You take another deep breath. Inhale, exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
You close your eyes, open your mouth, and sing.
Meanwhile….
Majors Gale Cleven and John Egan walk down the familiar street, one eager to catch up with his fellow countrymen’s alcohol intake, the other just happy to spend time with his friends. They were arriving later to the festivities due to being caught up in filling out reports. By far the worst part of having a higher rank was the paperwork.
“It’s pretty quiet.” Buck acknowledges. “They’re usually rowdier by this point.”
Bucky sniffs, shrugging off the concern. “Ah, it’s probably nothing.”
As the two men approach the pub, they find that a crowd has formed. Soldiers, civilians, RAF, USAAF, old, young— people had obviously stopped to watch whatever was going on. It was dead silent, save for a voice singing. Was there a radio show on or something?
A familiar face peeks out at them from the crowd, DeMarco quickly waving them over.
Bucky is quick to question, “Hey, what’s going on?” but is immediately shushed by nearby crowd members. Buck cringes in apology, despite not being the one to disturb the peace. His best friend, ever unshaken by the opinion of strangers, carries on.
DeMarco leans in, whispering, “Your girl’s taking us all to church.”
“My girl..?” Bucky’s nose scrunches in confusion. He makes space through the crowd and quickly makes sense of DeMarco’s words. It was you.
I’ll catch you up
When I’ve emptied my cup
When I’ve worn out my friends
When I’ve burned out both ends
Standing on a tabletop, watchful eyes sat all around you like baby ducks flocking to their mama. You were captivating everyone with each note and word that flows from your mouth. Damn, you've got a set of pipes— a voice that belongs on the radio, in concert halls, on Hollywood records. He had no idea.
His little Birdie.
“Wow.” Buck mutters in awe from behind him, and Bucky couldn’t be more in agreement.
When I’m pure like a dove
When I’ve learned how to love
He hadn’t noticed before, but her eyes were closed. Like she needed to concentrate on each and every breath she took, every single movement her body made, before letting them out in an angelic melody.
As if by divine intervention, her eyes pop open and lock on his as she belts “how to love”
It could’ve been an eternity, for all he knows, the amount of time that they spent locked in each other’s gaze. The world pauses around them, everything frozen. Her eyes were already the kind to knock a man clean off his feet with a single gaze, but he thinks- for a brief moment- that his heart completely stops beating.
John Clarence Egan would swear every day from then on, until his dying breath, that the course of his life was altered in that very moment. He knew how it would continue from then on, and how it would end. How he wanted it to end.
Then the world starts back up and carries on.
Right here in the old therebefore
When nothing is left anymore
Her final hums are joined by a short blonde woman who stands nearby, another face he recognizes from base.
The applause that picks up after the end of the song is near deafening. The star of the hour gives a shy smile, a quick curtsy and is given a hand to step down from the table.
Everyone soon starts mingling, the normal chatter of the bar returning. But Bucky is stuck in his spot, dumbfounded. In all the conversations you’d had together, somehow this never came up. He should’ve put two and two together, as he recalls overhearing your hums one morning as he made his daily coffee delivery to you. But you had been caught off guard, so much so that you tripped off the ladder you stood on and fell. Luckily, his quick reflexes kicked in to catch you before any serious injuries occurred.
Remembering the sensation of his hands on your waist and thighs, face just inches from yours, sent his brain into a tailspin. That’s not even considering just how damn cute you were when, after a beat, you turned away from him and playfully mourned the cups of coffee that were splattered all over the hardstand.
“John. John?” A hand waving in front of his face knocks him out of his reverie. He blinks once, twice. Then looks to his best friend.
His voice comes out uncharacteristically weak in response, to which he then clears his throat and corrects. “Yes—yeah?” He pops the collar of his sheepskin jacket to try and hide the rampant red of his ears that signals the heat radiating from them.
Buck just shakes his head and gives him a knowing smile. “You sure know how to pick ‘em, Egan. Never thought I’d see the day.”
“See what day?” Bucky starts to consciously return to his body, leaning on the bar.
“The day when a girl finally knocks you on your ass. I knew you had a thing for her, but that?” He points to his face and motions to indicate where they had just been standing. “That’s something else. That’s something real.”
Bucky gives another shrug in response, to which Buck throws back an unconvinced frown. He turns his head to gaze over the pub patrons and is distracted by you once again. Any denial he was about to spout immediately dies in his mouth when you lock eyes with him again and give him a dazzling smile. The world starts to fade away again.
His heart pumps faster in his chest at the sight. Damnit. He sighs, telling his best friend the truth he’s been privately wrestling with for a while now, all the while keeping his eyes locked on yours.
“I know, Buck. I know.”
Bucky smiles back at you and is elated when your face lights up. You give him a wave.
“She kinda snuck up on me.”

The Long Game
I sat in the passenger seat of the car as I waited for my new boyfriend Steven to come back from the gas station. He came back after a couple of minutes and hopped into the driver's seat. I couldn't help but smile like a ninny as my handsome boyfriend jumped back behind the wheel. It was truly a happy moment for me, but I knew something that could make it even better!
"Hey babe?" I started. He turned to me with big puppy eyes, practically begging me to give him more of my attention. "It's kinda hot in here... Do you wanna take off your shirt? I bet you'll feel better!"
"You're right, my love, hold on a sec..."
I watched with a wide grin as he got out of the car and took off his shirt. He then got back in, now shirtless and body on full display.
"Hey babe? Have you been hitting the gym a lot lately? You're looking swole as fuck right now... do you wanna show off?"
Steven smirked, then proceeded to flex his muscular arms right in front of me. I had a clear view to the gun show and I was loving it!
Tumblr media
It was crazy to think that it was only three short months ago Steven was dating my sister. We first met after she brought him to a family barbecue. I knew from the first time I laid eyes on him that I wanted him for myself.
And so, I got to work. Everytime I saw him, I made sure to leave subtle yet powerful subliminal messaging for him. I knew how to use my words and I knew how people worked on a psychological level. Put those things together, and I was a natural at hypnotizing others. I made sure to keep my hypnotic work on the downlow so nobody would notice what I was doing or that Steven was slowly but surely changing as he fell under my spell.
Hey Steven, wanna go work out with me?
Hey Steven, wanna go to the pool with me?
Hey bro, wanna spend more time with me?
Hey bro, wanna share a bed with me?
Hey, do you think you like boys too?
Hey, wanna go on a date?
Hey babe, wanna have some fun tonight?
I used phrases and questions like the ones above to lure him in. I had to make sure he kept his decision making power while I merely suggested things to him. That way, he wouldn't even notice he was falling under my hypnotic words! I also made sure to spread out my suggestions throughout a long period of time (about five months) before I started making real progress on my goal. What can I say, the power of suggestion was a waiting game, but it was a game I was a professional at!
It took a while but surely enough, I noticed the desired changes in Steven. As I went deeper with the hypnosis, Steven became much more comfortable with me. He became playful with how physically affectionate he was. Of course, because I was the one who became his object of desires, I was always showered by his shameless display of affection. Kinda like a puppy, but it was just the way I liked him.
At the final stage of hypnosis, he finally broke up with my sister and was incredibly ecstatic when I asked if he wanted to go out with me. His pupils had become incredibly dilated due to the hypnosis, but that'll go away with time. I'll also slowly stop suggesting things once he's fully settled in the role I gave him. It'll probably take another month or two. But in the meantime, we'll continue being the best, most-in-love boyfriends this world has ever seen!
"Hey babe, wanna make out in the back seats?"
"Of course, my love, I'd love that."

WAITER SAT AT THE TABLE

OKKK YAKUZA PILLARS WE LOVE..
Kny boys Drabble NOT FINISHED..
---------------------------------------------
"oh shit for real? The pillars are here!? " the pianist asked in shock
"yeah u can see them in the vip seating on the other side of the casino"
"oh for fuck sakes, another fight is probably gonna happen some time soon. "
"you bet"
After hearing the two colleagues gossip Y/n placed her old hairbrush back into her bag.
“What the fuck are pillars?” Y/n thought.
The strip club was definitely something,a popular angle wing in the outskirts of the city of japan
But how could she describe this club?
Utter shit
Female hookers only had a little bit to get ready for their customers, and the bartenders had even less time to change into their uniforms and set the stools down before the casino gets ready
Too add on, the club didn't have a wonderful dressing room for performers to get "all dolled up," as many owners put it, so she dressed up in the ladies employees restroom as long with her female colleagues.
____________________________________________
"HELP Y/N I CANT ZIP MY DRESS UP AND I HAVE TO GO OUT ANY MINUTE!"
"ume calm down jesus fucking crist, Turn around ill do the zip."
Y/N zipped up the performers outfit, which was way more flashier then her skutty uniform.
"daki ur late ur supposed to be on stage letter A right now!"
Another performer exclaimed, rushing daki out of the females room.
"OKAY OKAY I'M COMING ALRIGHT" daki turned around to y/n who was also supposed to be out on her shift right now.
"LET'S MEET UP LATER MM K?"
Y/N sighed lightly while giving a suttle smile
"sure" y/n replied on her way to follow daki to the exit.
Y/n exited the bathroom, leaving her aftershow clothes in on the bathroom sink as long as her bag, and began shifting her fingerless gloves.
“I should’ve pretended to sick today smh” she thought.
"hey y/n! What's up w being late all the time. We could've had a smoke break together."
"i would of been here five minutes ago but I was helping your sister "
Y/ns workmate, also known to be gyutaro rolled his eyes as he gave y/n her note pad and biro pen.
"whatever dude, but come tell me when your on your next break so we can go smoke mm k?"gyutaro said
Y/N waved him goodbye as she slowly walked away.
"we could've talked longer if u came on the right fucking time."
"mm k!" y/n mimicked, taking notes how the siblings act like each other.
Y/N walked out of the bar counter and pushed a stool aside her to continue on to taking orders.
Yet while she looked around she noticed all her work mates avoided the back left,also known as the more "mightier side". Was there someone big there? But if it was someone famous there wouldn't everyone be offering to take their order?
It didn't make sense.
Y/N walked towards to back without a ponder. There wasn't anyone to take the people's orders since the waiters scurried to take their orders, as if they were avoiding a certain table.
'whatever this is; i need that bag, so I guess I'm just going to have to deal with whatever hits me.' y/n thought.
High heels clanked on the ground while y/n search for a table to assist, only for-
"y/n! Y/n!"
She turned around.
"sasumaru? What's up with you?"
Sasumaru was one of y/ns closet friends at the casino, besides the siblings. She wanted to be a volley ball player but failed at everything ever since she was put under house arrest.
"I'm begging you to do that vip table! All of us are to scared to do it!"
"Well why, its not like they are gonna try to kill u for getting their order wrong."
Sasumaru laughed sarcastically
"they tried to kill yahaba because he asked if they wanted ice in their drink!" sasumaru exclaimed, rocking y/n back and fourth by the collar.
"whatever, I'll do it" y/n dead panned
"Are u so sure after hearing what I just told u!" sasumaru panicked even more
"yes it's fine I'll just do what they say, no questions, no ice."
Sasumaru stopped and starred at y/n
"Now will you let me go?" y/n asked.
"AAAAA UR SO COOL Y/N!!! SO BRAVE TOO, JUST LIKE ME"
Y/N pulled sasumaru off her and continued to walk to the vip room
'if u were brave like me, u would be walking to the vip lounge' y/n giggled to her self.
"hey babe what's ur number?"
"look at the fat in her back!"
"I would smack that"
Y/N grumbled to her self about these comments, much to her dismay shes pretty much used to the cat calling here. The manager doesn't really give a shit about the treatment his female employees get here.
'tch, whatever. Fucking saddos'
Y/N walked to the vip table, no in closer inspection she saw a group of men.
Rich men.
Rich and powerful men.
How could y/n tell they were powerful? Doesn't the silent tables of men around them tell you enough? What about the employees refusing to serve any where over here? Is that enough?.
"what could I get for you guys" y/n asked carefully, remembering what happend to yahaba.
"finally someone flashy to help us order!" one of the men said. His hair silver white with magenta eyes that popped. Jewellery coated his body with a expensive tuxedo.
"can I please just have some water? I hope that's okay." the other man said, he was way more bigger then the others and had a red beaded necklace on, his eyes were-wait, is he blind?
"CAN I PLEASE HAVE SOME HOT WINGS" a booming voice asked, his eyes were orange and red, matching with his hair.
"shut the fuck up Kyojuro. I want a sex on the beach cocktail" another white haired male asked, his appearance way more scary then the others with his scars that show from his face to where the tuxedo is undone to show more scars.
"I want the same as sanemi!" the male from the start exclaimed again.
Y/N noted all of these
"anything else?"
"how about you darling?" the flashy man asked. y/n internally screamed inside.
"can uzui shut his mouth for ten seconds" the man known as uzui smacked the scar face beside him while the others laughed.
Y/N walked away when they finished their order.
Okay! Maybe they are a little bit imtimidating.
Yeah, especially when she realised she saw them on the news for murder half way through their order.
But it's fine. It won't bother her THAT badly. Would it?.
"what's up with you? You are all shaken up."
"I just realised I was taking the fucking pillars orders"
"Are you fucking stupid? Everyone knew that's why they stayed closer to the entrance."
Y/N clicked her tounge, she knew that she was stupid but she Just wanted some more money! Cut her some slack!
"I did hear the pianist talk about it outside of getting changed. I didn't really deep much into it though."
Gyutaro placed the drinks on a round black tray along with some hot wings.
"I mean it's your problem now, and to be honest if they didn't like you, you would have been dead by now."
Y/N awkwardly smiled, knowing shes fucked.
"yeah yeah whatever."
She grabbed the tray and started to walk back towards the mobsters
I mean are they really mobsters? even though how imtimidating they were, they somewhat respected you.
They respected you way more then other people you are close with.
"look at her body."
"she's hot."
"yo guys should I ask for her number?"
At this point y/n couldn't even hear the things that were said about her. She was too focused about the men on the Vip table. Is she scared? Incredibly. Is she going to act like nothings bothered her about them? Yes. She is.
The platform heels platters the floor, alarming the men on the table.
"I see your back so soon"
The bling guy said, clasping his hands together.
"took her time didn't she." the scarface complained, tapping his finger on the table.
"don't be so rude sanemi."
" and how the fuck am I being rude?!?"
Y/N placed their drinks down, ignoring how her body's shaking from the pillars infront of her.
"so lady! How long have you been working here?"
Y/N paused at what she was doing and looked up to the fire head who just asked her a question.
"just under a year."
Kyojuro nodded and smiled
"that's nice, you look so young though how old are you?"
Sanemi who sat on the edge of the table hanged his leg out
"I bet not a day over 19"
Y/N chuckled lowly, letting her guard down
"I'm 23"
Uzui spat his drink out
"HUH"
Gyomei smiled towards y/n, he felt comfortable around her arua.
He couldnt explain it, she just seems nice to hang around with.
Y/N chuckled again
"do I really look that young? -"
"NO WAY UR MY AGE"
Uzui shouted light heartily, maybe he could have a 4th wife.
"how about she sits down with us? Since u guys are obsessing over her like bitchy dogs."
Sanemi complained, true they were acting like dogs, but he would be lying if he didn't want to talk to y/n too.
"that's not a bad idea!" Rengoku exclaimed while tengen patterned on the the sofa like chair in between him and Kyojuro.
"how about you sit here precious?"
Y/Ns face paled, does she have a choice? I mean she doesn't mind sitting between them she's just worried her boss would think she's slacking off again.
"don't force her, remember she has a job to do." gyomei said to the two, for sanemi to agree
"I'll pay her to sit with me, her job is to get money from customers right? Come sit down with us darling."
Uzui said, while rengoku took a few papers out of his wallet.
"It's fine if you don't want to! We will still pay for our drinks." Rengoku re assured y/n.
Y/N smiled softly, forgetting her worries about any of them.
"cmon girl they will be asking all night if u don't say anything." sanemi grumbled, embarrassed of the two weirdos on the table with him.
"sure.but not for to long"
"BETTER THEN NOTHING!" Rengoku shouted, for uzui to nudge sanemi to move for y/n to get in.
Sanemi stood up and put his hand on her shoulder.
"come on uzui we don't have all day."
"Sorry my fatass Is making it harder to get out, I know you can't relate sanemi" uzui chuckled to make sanemi embarrassed. Y/n chuckled lowly, just to embarrass him more.
"whatever, in you get girl"
Y/N nudged over to Kyojuro, only to smile at each other while ignoring gyomei telling uzui to not body shame anyone.
"It's not my fault he fails at squats" uzui said nudging over to sit next to y/n
Which made her sandwiched between two physco extroverts who wears expensive tuxedos
Nothing else could get worse then it already is.
"so pretty face, what's your name?" sanemi asked, fed up of the name calling.
"I bet her name is really cool!"
"I bet its something snazzy"
Gyomei took a sip of his water and looked over to y/n
"whatever her name is, it would be beautiful."

Career Day | Jake seresin x Shy!Wifey
Opposites Attract Masterlist | Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
synopsis: It's Career Day at Alex's school and a special guest is missing
word count: 1.3k
warnings: none, I actually wrote pure fluff for once
Tumblr media
It was strange for Alex to be quiet on the way to school. Usually, he was talking her ear off as Y/N drove the five minutes to his school. Alex was always excited about going to school, which helped settle some of Y/N’s nerves. He was so much like his mother, shy as can be. Jake’s father had made some comment about Alex’s shyness and Y/N had grown worried about her son’s development. She worried that he was going to get bullied, or teased at school, making his anxiety and shyness worse. But Alex was a bright, blooming kid who had tons of kids. His teacher even said he was a very popular kid.
But this morning, her little “mister popularity” (as Jake calls him) was looking out the window with a frown on his face.
"What's wrong, baby?" Y/N asked, looking in the rearview mirror as she pulled up to his school. His blonde hair was pushed back out of his face, he chose his blue glasses today to match his uniform shirt. Alex sighed and looked over at the other side of the car, where his baby sister Ella was happily playing with a stuffed rabbit.
"I'm just not happy about school," He pouted, placing one of his small fingers in Ella’s hand.
"Why? Did something happen?"
Alex shook his head and sighed, "It's career day. Jennah is bringing her mom, and Ezra is bringing his mom and dad, but my dad isn't here."
Y/N looked at her son, his large green eyes which resembled his father's, held sadness in them. Her heart broke seeing him sad like this. It had taken some getting used to having Jake gone. It was his first deployment in nearly two years since Ella had been born. Jake hated leaving, he hated it even more now that he had children waiting for him at home. Alex liked having just his mom around sometimes. She always baked cookies and let him have at least one before bed. She also bought him a new toy whenever Dad would leave. It all seemed well to begin with, but it always turned sour after the first phone call.
Alex had been hysterical after that very first call. It broke Jake’s heart to pieces hearing his young boy so upset and hearing his wife trying to calm him down, worried that he would pass out. It took Y/N nearly an hour to get Alex to calm down, and he slept horribly that night. After that, Y/N noticed the small changes in her son. The not wanting to play with his toys, or draw pictures. Not wanting to go play with Jennah Machado, or to go to dance class. And now, not even wanting to go to school.
"I know it sucks not having Daddy here, but lovebug, you could’ve invited me," Y/N said and Alex frowned.
"You’re not as cool as daddy,"
Y/N chuckled at her son’s comment, but it was true. No one could be quite as cool as the Naval aviator in the family. When she reached her turn in the drop-off line, she parked the car and smiled as his teacher opened his door and helped him out of his booster seat.
"Hey, Alex," Y/N called out to her son.
"Yes, mommy?" Alex said.
"Try and smile today, for your daddy, okay?" Y/N told him and Alex nodded enthusiastically, "Bye Alex, I love you, have a good day."
"Bye momma, I love you!" Alex said as he closed the car door and then ran off with his friends out in the quad of the school. Y/N waved as she saw Jennah running around.
Y/N sighed and put her car in drive and looked back in the rearview mirror, seeing her daughter stare at the mirror above her seat with wide eyes. Ella looked the most like Jake out of her and Alex. Her hair was almost bleach blonde, her eyes electric green. She also had his sass, and she was only two.
“Are you ready to go pick up our surprise?” Y/N asked.
“Da!” Ella exclaimed, throwing her toy across the car.
“Yep,” Y/N smiled, “Da.”
Instead of driving home and getting ready for work like Y/N usually did after dropping Alex off, she drove to the airport. She parked the car, and got Ella out, before walking into the airport. Y/N watched people walk down the escalator, suitcases and bags in their hands. Y/N scanned their faces until she saw those familiar green eyes. Y/N smiled and held Ella a bit tighter in her arms.
“Ella, who is that,” Y/N said in a happy voice. She crouched down and put her daughter’s feet on the floor, “Who is that, Ella!?”
“Da!” The little girl yelled, reaching her arms out as he walked up to her, a bright smile on his face. He scooped up the girl in his arms, kissing all over her face, making her squeal.
"Sweets," He said greeting you with a kiss, “Does he know?” Y/N shook her head and he kissed her again.
"No clue. Now come on, you gotta get ready to surprise a very unsuspecting little boy."
--- --- ---
The moment Alex had been dreading finally came. Mrs. Andrews announced that career day was finally starting, as the parents and guardians of kids came flooding into the classroom. Alex tried his best to pay attention and not cry as his classmates introduced their parents. Val frowned seeing her godson look out the window and not at the front of the class. Each kid had to present something, and Alex looked down at the pair of wings he had taken from his dad’s desk this morning.
"Alright next up, Alex Seresin." Mrs. Andrews said. Alex sighed and pushed himself up from his desk, holding the wings in his hand and walking to the front of the class.
He stood shyly, holding the wings to his chest, and looking down at his white vans. He took a deep breath, remembering what Y/N had told him, to smile. He looked up at his class, seeing all their eyes on him, the panic starting to rise in his little body. Val could see the look in his eyes from the back of the classroom, and she waved a bit, getting his attention. He looked up at her, and Val gave him a smile and a thumbs up and mouthed ‘you got this’.
Alex nodded, and took his hand away from his chest, holding out the gold wings, “These are my daddy’s wings. He’s a Naval-”
"Hey, sorry I'm late," Jake said, walking in the door, still clad in his khaki uniform.
"Daddy!" Alex yelled, dropping the wings and running over to him. Jake picked him up in his arms and held him tightly, "How did you know?!"
"Momma told me. I wasn't about to miss career day."
“Are you home for good?”
"I’m home for good," Jake said and sat his feet back down on the ground. Alex grabbed his hand and pulled him to the front of the class.
"This is my dad,” Alex said looking up at him, “He’s in the Navy, and my hero.”
Jake smiled at his son, before looking at the class of wide-eyed first graders. He saw a hand in the back shoot up into the air and he pointed at the little girl with blue bows in her hair.
“Are you a sailor?” She asked and Y/N couldn’t help but chuckle and look at her husband. She knew his eye was probably twitching as he hated it when people asked if he was a ‘sailor’.
“I’m a Naval Aviator,” Jake responded, “And the best one at that. Let me tell you a story of the time I saved my best friend and commander from the enemy.”

A Game Of Cat And Mouse
Leona Kingscholar and Che’nya x Fem!Jerry Mouse!Reader
Note: Reader is Yuu/The magicless Ramshackle Prefect from another world
Tumblr media
I have a ton of WIPs that I really want to complete but to help motivate myself to finish them I decided to write this
So Jerry’s personality seems to fluctuate depending on his iteration so I’m just going to tone down his more sadistic tendencies and make him more like the early shorts where he’s more mischievous and acts when provoked instead of going out of his way to ruin Tom’s life for no reason.
Honestly as a Tom girlie I felt so sorry for Thomas. There were times where that poor cat did not deserve what he went through - even when I was little I would root for him. Though this might just be an oldest child thing since my little sister and mum (who’s the youngest in her family) prefer Jerry.
LEONA KINGSCHOLAR
Honestly, his first impression of you wasn’t the best. Yeah, you’re a girl and he chugs gallons of respecting women juice for every meal but come on - you’re this tiny little mousegirl from another world who can’t even do magic (not to mention that he’s heard rumours that you don’t even speak that much). You’ll get eaten alive!
Then he met you and all of that went down the drain
The meeting went as it usually does: you stepped on his tail, he angrily confronts you (whilst subtly warning you of the dangers of NRC) but then you just give him this flat, unamused look.
“Hey pussycat,” you deadpan, raising an eyebrow and crossing your arms as you jut your chin up so you level him with a glare, “maybe don’t go leaving your tail lying around everywhere if you don’t want people to step on it.”
Okay, so maybe you weren’t the meek little mouse that he thought you were. Even the predators in his dorm don’t have the guts to talk back to him. Honestly, respect.
Then word gets out that you defeated an overblot and his opinion of you gets more and more favourable.
Long story short, you start dating after his overblot.
And it does cause a few turned heads.
And who can blame them? A lion going out with a mouse. That’s definitely something.
And to the untrained eye, it does sound concerning. But to those who know you (read: have been around you for more than five minutes)? Well, they’re praying for Leona’s sanity because you are nothing more than an agent of chaos.
There was this one time before you and Leona got together where a bunch of Savanaclaw predators were trying to push you, Ace, Deuce and Grim around and without even blinking you just pummelled all of them right then and there. At one point during the curb stomp battle you just pulled a mallet out of nowhere and just started thrashing everyone until they were black and blue.
Congratulations the entire Savanaclaw dorm is terrified of you
All that training with Big Cousin Muscles really does wonders
NRC have two new rules: 1) don’t even think about going after the nagicless prefect because you will lose and even if you try to use magic she will dodge and it will be your funeral and 2) DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES hurt Ace, Deuce or Grim because that will probably be the last thing you ever do (memories of Jerry completely annihilating Tom after he hurt Nibbles are resurfacing)
One thing he admires about you is your cunning and intelligence and how you’re always a step ahead of everyone no matter what their plans are. Even when you do find yourself in trouble
Even Rook Hunt has trouble trying to catch you. Don’t worry though, he’s far too fond of ‘petite mademoiselle souris’ to be irked by that.
He does get jealous of how close you are with Ruggie though. Since the hyena is also a greedy little thieving bugger like you, you have found a kindred spirit in him. The two of you bond over raiding the NRC kitchen and making off with as much as you can. And also taking the mickey out of Leona.
 You also get along great with Cheka. He’s noticed that you have a soft spot for children and other animals. The pro is that he gets his nephew off of his back by pawing him off to you (who he knows will make sure that no harm will come to him) the con is that you get along too well and your chaotic natures mixing will probably send him to an early grave - if your mischievous and provoking nature doesn’t already.
One thing he loves to do is tease you over your mouse-like qualities. Yeah, anyone with eyes can tell that you’re nowhere near as innocent as you look but those mouse ears, wide eyes, squeaks and cute little tail are objectively and indisputably adorable. He takes great pleasure in telling you how cute ‘his little mouse’ is, especially when you give such sweet reactions when you're flustered.
Though he does get taken aback by how bold you are. You definitely did that thing Jerry does where he holds mistletoe above his head and made kissing noises at Tom.
Your high pitched laugh makes his heart melt and he definitely uses his rich boy money to buy you all of the expensive cheese you can eat.
CHE’NYA
He loves you so much. Finally, someone he can be chaotic with - you’re a match made in hell.
His interest in you starts when he tries to sneak up on you whilst invisible but you pull one over him and just turn around, look directly into his unseeable eyes and sprAY WATER RIGHT ONTO HIS FACE-WHAT THE HELL?! WHERE DID YOU EVEN GET THAT SPRAY BOTTLE FROM????
At first he was pleasantly surprised before his face broke into a Cheshire Cat grin. He felt cupid’s arrow hit him square in the chest and he just looked at you with heart eyes.
By asking Trey and Cater and hiding in the rose maze, he gathered enough information to decide that you are his future wife
Turns out that your troublemaking antics have you paired with Ace and Floyd for the position of ‘bane of Riddle Rosehearts’ existence’. Mainly because everytime you break a rule you always, without fail, evade punishment by avoiding getting caught - even when you are clearly the culprit
Trey has bribed you with so many cheese based baked goods to stop you from sneaking into Heartslabyul and causing mayhem (you felt sorry for him so you promised him that you’ll only steal from the main kitchen near the cafeteria. That’s not what he meant but he’ll take it)
One day he catches you kidnapping the dorm’s pet dormouse before an unbirthday party so that you ‘can help your fellow mice by freeing them from their subjugation’. He shrugs and nods in understanding before asking you if he should let out the flamingos and hedgehogs from their pens as a distraction.
And so a beautiful relationship was born as the two of you ran off with a tray of choux pastries and a bunch of angry card soldiers chasing you.
The two of you have a competition over who can sneak into and stay in Heartslabyul the longest without getting caught and you’re currently the winner.
He loves that you’re not scared of anyone and you’re not afraid to stand up to people that are almost quadruple your size. In fact, he’s there cheering you on whenever you fight back or plot your revenge (he does know that he has a whole other school to attend, right?). One time you showed him one of your revenge plans and he even helped you set the traps and everything. Oh the two of you working together has NRC running for the hills.
Like Leona, he does like to tease you but what do you expect? He’s a cat, you’re a mouse - that’s nature. Though he does love the fact that you’re always one step ahead of him whenever he does try to outsmart you. He loves a good puzzle and you certainly keep him on his toes.

Can you PLEASEEEE write a fic about Nathan and hockey🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Big Game Pt 1
SLS x Nathan Doe
warnings: Not yet hehehe
Nathan's POV
Today was the big hockey game of the season for Somerville High School. We had made it all the way to the State Finals.
Matt and Chris, my best friends and a part of the Sturniolo Quadruplets, were playing in the game as well. Nick was there for photography reasons, and their sister, SLS/N, was tagging along to cheer us on.
-
It was lunch time and the boys, SLS/N, and I were at our usual table in the back. We Chris and I were talking about the game while Nick and Matt were getting lunch in line. SLS/N was sitting quietly, writing in her notebook
She had her nose scrunched, biting her lip in concentration. Looking absolutely adorable while doing it. I couldn't help but look at her, getting distracted from Chris talking.
"Hey! Are you even listening?" He laughs snapping in my face.
I laugh, may face turning a little red. Lucky for me, Matt and Nick walk over. Matt gently ruffles her hair, as she looks up at him and smiles, showing her dimples. Adorable.
"So, you guys excided for your game?" I hear her ask.
I look up and she's looking at me. I quickly look down, stabbing at my lunch with my fork.
-
The bell rang for lunch, the triplets taking the left to get to PE, while SLS/N and I take a right so I can drop her off at her Spanish class, just like we do every day.
Just before I drop her off, I work up the courage to take my home jersey, the one that I won't use because we're playing away today and toss it at her.
"Wear it at the game. You need a little spirit." I say, giving her a smile while running my fingers through my hair.
She catches it and unfolds it, holding it up and reading Doe on the back. She looks up at me and smiles.
"You know I can wear matt's or Chris's, right?" She asks, but kept the jersey all the same, tucking it into her backpack.
"Yeah, but my last names way cooler than theirs." I say, giving her a wave and walking to my class.
I hear her giggle then walk into her class.
-
As soon as the bell rang, I rushed out of my calculus class, down the main stairs, and out the door to get to the student parking lot. We had an hour and a half long drive to get the the ice rink, so we needed to get going.
Matt, Chris, and I all chucked our hockey gear into the back along with our backpacks, shutting the car door. We then hopped in the car, only to notice that SLS/N was not in the car yet.
"Oh my god, i thought I told her to get out quick." Matt mumbled under his breath, eyeing the long line of cars, cramming together while trying to get out of the parking lot.
We only had to wait about five more minutes until I see SLS/N running towards the car. The hops in between Nick and I in the back, out of breath and her cheeks pink from running all the way here.
"Matt-I'm so-so sorry. Some idiot spilled paint all over me." She says in between breaths.
only then did I notice the blue paint, running all the way down her shirt. Her shirt was wet, like she tried to get some of it off with water, only to make it spread worse.
But I was shocked at what she did next.
"Chris, can i borrow your hoodie for the game?" She asked her older brother.
He nodded, taking off his black sweatshirt and handing it to her. Much to my surprise, she peeled of her wet shirt, leaving her in just a sports bra before throwing Chris's hoodie on.
I felt my cheeks turn red, noticing how close I was to her bare skin. She then dug around in her backpack, and pulled out my other jersey, and put that on over the black hoodie.
I smiled at myself, admiring how good she looks with my name on her back.

The Summer I Loved You -> E.L. 🐚🍸🪝
Summary: you’re spending time with your friends for the end of the summer before senior year, and your childhood best friend is catching your eye more than you’d like him to
Part 1!
Tumblr media
The sun was burning hot as you walked across the beach, the sand baking the soles of your feet and crackling with tiny shells. Tara, rambling about her latest date with a guy named Mark, passed you the Yeti cup filled with rosé so you could take a lofty sip.
A wine walk, she called it. Which is the only feasible excuse you could think of as to why the both of you were guzzling down a jumbo bottle of wine at noon, the hot Sun making you feel slightly nauseated. Or maybe, to your chagrin, the reason your stomach was turning was because of the two boys you saw up ahead.
Chads Meeks-Martin, your college roommate of three years, and your childhood best friend, Ethan Landry. Chad had a cute girl with platinum streaks in her hair tossed over his shoulder, spinning her around as she screamed with laughter. Her girlfriend, and Chad’s sister, watched in amusement. As Tara and you approached Ethan turned first, his brown curls made wilder by the salt-infused air, his toned arms tanned and bigger than they’d been when you’d seen him two months before.
The five of you would be spending two weeks in Charleston, staying at Anika’s family beach house for a last minute summer vacation before senior year of college. You’d been excited; you hadn’t seen any of them besides Tara, Chad, and Mindy since the end of the semester and, even if you shouldn’t, even if it was ridiculous, you’d missed Ethan more than anyone.
“Y/N,” he greeted, jogging over with a smile you’d known since you were kids. He nodded to Tara, sparing her a quick ‘hey’ before he tugged you into a hug, arms lifting you an inch off the sandy ground. Despite yourself you hugged him tight around the neck, your stomach twisting further at the scent of his cologne mixed with the coconut scent of Mindy’s sunscreen. “when did you guys get here? I thought you’d be here like an hour ago.”
“Tara wanted wine first.” You said, smiling sheepishly as he set you down, eyebrows raised.
You passed him the Yeti as Tara darted off to greet the other three of your friends, and he took a sip. Then he let out a long-suffering sigh, tossing those puppy-eyes of his onto your face.
“I missed you.” He said, passing the cup back as he slung an arm around your shoulders. “Mom’s been on my ass about Senior year. Internships and jobs and all that.” His expression pinched, a hint of stress tugging the corners of his mouth down. “Can you tell her to go easy on me? You’re her favorite.”
“You’re her son.”
“A biological technicality, Y/N.” His hand looped further around your shoulders to hook onto the necklace you wore, a thin chain with a small golden heart. His expression relaxed as he touched a finger to the charm. “I’m surprised you kept this.”
Your face tinged with a hint of pink and you ducked out of his grip.
“Why?” You asked, adjusting the necklace. “It was a gift.”
“Yeah, but—”
“Y/N!” Chad yelled, dashing over to scoop you up the same way he had Anika, yanking you away from Ethan and the topic of the necklace he’d purchased you. “My girl!”
You protested in vain, unable to stop a laugh from leaving you. Chad was one of your closest friends—had been since you’d been stuck together freshmen year—and it was no secret that he’d hit on you once or twice. You’d even matched at a Halloween party sophomore year, he as a shirtless (and stupidly hot) cowboy, you as a sheriff.
The two of you had inside jokes, fought over who did what chores, cooked meals together, and occasionally yelled at each other when he stayed for way too long in the bathroom or you took an everything shower.
But Ethan..
Ethan was your friend since childhood.
Ethan was the one who you called when you were upset, or tired, or bored.
Ethan had been drunk when he’d shown up to you and Chad’s shared apartment months ago, your roommate somewhere else for the night. Ethan had pounded on the door for five minutes straight while you were in the shower, his eyes red when you finally opened up the door. He was tired, he said, he couldn’t sleep, midterms were coming up and he needed you, needed to sleep on your bed. So you’d let him inside, let him collapse under your sheets, let him steal back the oversized shirt he’d left—just in case—inside your bottom drawer.
And when he’d given you the necklace he’d kept shoved in his pocket, moments before passing out, saying he’d bought it for your birthday months before but had been too chicken-shit to hand it over, you’d felt a pull to him that you’d been suppressing since you’d been a kid.
Now though, as you glanced up, eyes locking with Ethan’s, you felt a twinge in your gut as his smile faltered, his focus moving from you to Chad. You smacked your roommate’s back lightly so he’d let you down, your feet crashing back onto hot sand as you righted yourself.
“We’re barbecuing later, and then there’s a party on the beach, and then..” Chad talked as you walked, leading you towards Tara and the others, Ethan trailing behind a step.
When you glanced back he was looking at some point in the distance, seemingly deep in thought. So you hung back, shooing Chad onwards as you fell into step with Ethan, his tiny glance at you making your skin hum. He didn’t even have to say anything—his look towards Chad had ‘your roommate is obnoxious’ written all over it, and you suppressed a laugh.
“Be nice.” You whispered. It was no secret that Ethan’d never been a huge fan of Chad, though you weren’t sure why.
“I am nice. I’m so nice.”
“Surrrre.” You grinned and he bumped a shoulder against yours, tan skin brushing the untouched version of yours that would soon be just as dark. “We’ll have You and Me time, later. Don’t worry.” You said, referring to what he’d started coining as the moments the both of you would sneak off whenever his social battery inevitably drained.
“I need it.” He sighed, his head tilting, a small smile playing on his mouth, and damn you if the sight of his eyes on yours wasn’t the most gorgeous thing you’d seen all summer. But he was Ethan. And that wasn’t something you should be thinking about.
So when his fingers laced through yours, tugging you a bit quicker towards the others, snippets of their conversation coming into focus, you reminded yourself that it meant nothing.
Even if he meant everything.

----------
In the days preceding Alpha Tau’s fall formal, Eren doesn’t hear a peep from her. The night he broke the news about taking Pieck as his date, she hung up on him without waiting for a goodbye. He should have predicted this type of reaction. Given how clingy she’s been in the past, he was hoping for a truce in the form of sex after a few days of letting it simmer. That’s how he lands back in her good graces time and time again.
Even with this radio silence, it doesn’t faze him much. He’s confident that he’s still got the upper hand. Once the weekend is over and she realizes nothing will happen between him and Pieck, the anger will subside; she’ll come crawling back. Eager and needy for him like always. Does he feel guilty for pissing her off? Sure, maybe just a bit. It is what it is.
Saturday afternoon, Eren and Armin head to Alpha Tau to board the first bus. Dressed in sweats and bags in hand, the two roommates part ways outside the house. Armin goes towards Annie, Hitch, and Connie. Eren is dragged to where Reiner, Sandra, and Bertolt wait. Pieck and the other Delta Mu sister, who Eren recognizes is Mikasa’s friend Louise, arrive five minutes later.
“Hi Eren,” Pieck says, a polite smile spread across her face.
“Hey. Thanks for coming with me.”
Louise stands next to Bertolt while Reiner hands out flasks to each of them, filled with what smells like vodka. He whispers, “Don’t worry, we have more bottles in our bags. We can refill at the hotel later.”
Sandra breaks away from their group to hug Hitch. Eren turns around to observe them, immediately making eye contact with Annie, who glares. He makes a mental note to steer clear of her the rest of the evening.
He scans the rest of the crowd to look for Mikasa and Jean. He doesn’t spot them, assuming they’ll be on the next bus scheduled to leave in half an hour. Mike is also noticeably missing.
Once boarded, Eren and Pieck sit beside each other in a comfortable silence for the first ten minutes of the ride. Attempting to initiate small talk, he reiterates, “Thank you again for coming with me to this.”
She giggles. “I’ll admit, I was a bit surprised to hear that you wanted to take me.”
“Why?” He sips from his flask, curious.
“I thought you’d take your girlfriend instead. You know, the one we played beer pong with at Halloween?” She says her name, causing Eren to sputter on his drink.
Whipping his head around to ensure no one else can hear them, he whispers, “What did you say?”
There’s a sly grin on her face as she responds, “It was very obvious. You couldn’t stop staring at her.”
“Well, she’s not my girlfriend. I barely know her,” he explains, hastily.
She raises a brow, studying him. “Who is she to you, then? It seems like there’s something going on between you two.”
“She’s no one,” he lies. A twinge of guilt spasms in his chest.
Shrugging, she relents. “Sorry for assuming. I guess I’m wrong.” She wears her pleasant smile again, unconcerned that she rocked his cool disposition. “Forget I said anything.”
He wasn’t expecting her name to be brought up at all tonight. It seems like everywhere he goes, she lingers, whether in his own mind or in that of others. It hasn’t been fifteen minutes into this bus ride, and he’s already flustered. He drinks more alcohol to suppress his feelings until she’s buried all the way in the back of his thoughts.
At the hotel, each brother checks into their room. Reiner, Bertolt, and Eren opt for single beds. Before they head up the elevator to their assigned floor, Armin passes by and mentions, “If you guys want to pre-game with us, we’re all rooming together in Room 310!”
Reiner scoffs. “No thanks. We’re going to have our own pre-game in my room.”
Sandra smacks him on the arm. “I want to hang out with Hitch. Let’s just pre-game in their room. It’s bigger and there will be more people. It’ll be way more fun.”
Reiner grumbles, “Fine. We’ll see you there. We’ll bring some of our alcohol.”
“Great! We brought some too. See you all in a bit!”
Up on the third floor, Eren and Pieck enter Room 324 in silence, both unsure what to talk about. He especially feels awkward after their conversation earlier on the bus. Pieck occupies the bathroom to change while he gets ready in one corner of the room. He decides on an all-black outfit comprised of a turtleneck sweater underneath his suit jacket, black slacks, and black oxfords. Pieck exits the bathroom, wearing a maroon floral dress that flows down to her ankles.
“You look great,” he compliments, as she puts on her shoes.
“Thank you!” she beams. “You too. You kinda look like a spy.”
He takes it as a compliment, focusing on his reflection in the mirror to style his hair in the classic man-bun. It’s only now that he recalls how Mike was the first to tie his hair up like this, way back at the beginning of the semester. You owe me if this gets you laid tonight, he remembers him saying. In a way, he does owe that idiot. He figures they’re even now, considering what happened on Halloween.
Thinking about him with her bothers Eren once again. But he takes solace knowing they won’t be together here. Rumor has it that the senior goes to formals alone on account of him notoriously getting too drunk to pay attention to his date. Certain this is still true, he isn’t concerned about running into her today. The evening will pass by smoothly. All according to plan.
He waits for Pieck to finish her makeup before heading down the hall to Room 310. Armin and Connie greet them, patting him on the back happily; Pieck goes over to the girls to introduce herself. Eren does his best to avoid the women, especially Annie, who continues to stare daggers at him every chance she gets.
The rest join soon after, the girls sticking together, the boys huddled in their own circle. Bertolt sneaks glances at Annie, who completely ignores him. Reiner miraculously does not make any offensive comments, a true rarity for him.
For the next hour, they drink while chatting, the girls casually dancing along to the music blasting through Connie’s speakers. Once it gets closer to 7:00 PM, they all pour whatever remaining liquor they have into their flasks to sneak downstairs. Eren is filling his with vodka when Annie intentionally bumps into him.
“Annie,” he nods.
“Jaeger,” she mutters, eyeing him with contempt.
He doesn’t say anything, not interested in conversing with her, predicting it will lead to the mention of a certain someone. She doesn’t give him a choice, though, as she begins speaking. “Pieck is nice. I hope you don’t lead her on, too.”
In a low voice, he responds, “I’m not interested in Pieck like that. I just had to bring someone.”
She scoffs, barely keeping herself quiet. Luckily, the music is loud enough to drown out their conversation. “I take back what I said to you last week. I don’t respect you at all. At least Reiner knows he’s an asshole and owns it. You on the other hand, you’re a lost cause. I still have no idea why she would associate with someone like you.”
“Can you just drop it already, Annie?” he hisses. “Can’t I have one night without her being thrown in my face like this?”
She blinks, a tiny smirk forming on her lips. “You have no idea, do you?”
“No idea about what?”
“Oh, nothing. You’ll see soon enough.” She steps away to join her friends again, leaving Eren to speculate on her ominous parting. It’s just Annie trying to get under his skin, which she always successfully does. Frustrated, he takes the whole vodka bottle and throws it back, swallowing a few shots worth until his throat burns.
Downstairs, the doors to the ballroom are open. Levi stands at the entrance greeting everyone as they enter. “Oi, pledges. Welcome to your first formal. Seating chart is over there.” He points to an easel with a large sign propped on it. “Have fun.”
Eren scans the poster for his name, seeing it listed under Table 3. He’s tipsy enough not to care who else is sitting with them. At the table, Marco is already seated next to his friend, a girl from the women’s soccer team. Petra from Sigma Nu Kappa sits next to an empty chair with a jacket slung over the back, presumably Levi’s. There are two remaining spots currently unoccupied.
They take their seats, Pieck chatting up the rest of the table as Eren examines his surroundings, trying to locate his friends. Armin and Connie are at a table with Erwin and his guest, Hange. Reiner and Bertolt sit three tables away with another brother and his date, SNK senior Nanabe. He has no idea where Mikasa and Jean are, neither of them making their appearance yet. The second bus should have already arrived, so he expects they’ll be making their grand entrance soon.
The venue continues to fill up, people situated in their seats, snacking on the appetizers. Most of the seniors are in line at the bar to purchase drinks, besides Levi, who is sober monitor.
Eren takes swigs from his flask, letting the vodka continue to take its effects on his mind and body. He feels good. Relaxed. Tonight, there will be no drama, exactly the way he planned it. If he keeps consuming liquor, she’ll remain in the furthest corner of his mind.
Still, the tiniest part of him misses her. But that’s what the alcohol is for. Forgetting.
He sits facing away from the doorway, so when Petra’s face lights up and Levi smirks, saying, “Ah, finally,” Eren has to physically turn around to see who it is they are talking to.
As soon as he recognizes them, the heat from the liquor seems to rush straight out of his body, leaving him frozen in place.
~~~
The week leading up to Alpha Tau’s formal, you start scheming. The infuriating phone call with Eren was just the fuel you needed to get you fired up.
Every decent quality about him, from his undeniable sex appeal to the occasional loving gestures, has been forced into the most secluded crevices of your mind. Instead, you let all the crummy details about him surface.
He took advantage of your naivety, knowing you were inexperienced and desperate for any form of affection. After he lured you in, he manipulated you into thinking you were special, that your many moonlight trysts with one another had to be kept a secret. As if it was so fucking romantic to keep you hidden away like his most prized possession when he was really trying to find more treasure elsewhere.
Worst of all, he won’t let you go. He has to have you. String you along until it’s the right time for him to toss you aside once he grows tired of you. Until you become an overused and rejected toy withering away into the worst version of yourself, all while he replaces you with someone shinier and new.
The only way to avoid that is to end it with him first. Officially and for good.
No more empty promises, no more subtle blows to your confidence and self-worth. No more heartbreak. You won’t allow him to desecrate your fragile heart any longer.
The easy route would be to have a private discussion about it. Maybe after the event, so you don’t ruin his fun weekend plans. But you don’t want it to be easy. You want it to be satisfying. Meaningful. You want it to hurt; not enough to mangle him, but just enough to leave a scar. If he ever becomes a better person later in life, he’ll always remember what he did to you, hopefully determined not to repeat the same mistakes.
Your plan is set in motion. The first step is to get yourself at Alpha Tau’s formal. On Wednesday, Armin invites you and Mikasa over to the fraternity house to eat dinner. You sit with Mike at one of the tables. Mikasa, who wants you at formal for her own selfish reasons, and Armin sit beside you. You plan to bombard the senior to bring you. It’s a known fact that Mike goes stag to these dances, the reason being that he always gets too drunk to pay enough attention to whoever he’s taking.
It doesn’t take much to convince him, though. You proposition him, explaining how much fun the two of you will have together, how you won’t mind if he gets blackout drunk. Even offering to take care of him if in the morning in case he has a hangover.
“Okay. I’ll make an exception for you. By the way, breakfast burritos are my go-to hangover cure.”
You smile at him. “Noted.”
“Do you think they’ll still let her go even though it’s past the deadline?” Armin asks.
“Erwin and Levi are my best friends. They’ll let me do anything, don’t worry. You will be my date this Saturday,” he emphasizes, winking.
With step one complete, the next move is to make a grand entrance.
Thursday afternoon, Mikasa, Annie, and Hitch accompany you to the mall to pick out your outfit. Your roommate suggests a red dress, similar to one that she’s planning to wear. Annie and Hitch, fully aware of your Eren situation, recommend a black, off-the-shoulder bodycon, coming down just past your knees. Complete with a side slit the runs up mid-thigh. A revenge dress.
Out of the fitting room, Mikasa let’s out a low whistle. “Okay, forget I even suggested red because this is everything.”
“You look hot!” Hitch exclaims.
“It’s perfect,” Annie says.
In it, you feel confident, beautiful, and most of all, powerful. You’re ready to pull the rug out from under him in one fell swoop.
Saturday arrives. At the hotel, you and Mike check into your single room. By the time you’re finished in the bathroom, you hear a soft knock on the door. Upon opening it, Mike, handsome and suave in his navy-blue suit, looks you up and down. “You look fucking amazing.”
You smile at him. “Thank you. So do you.”
The two of you share this unspoken agreement to remain friends, maybe with a couple benefits here and there. However, your main focus tonight is to deal with Eren.
“We better head to Erwin’s room now before I get any ideas.” Giving you one more look, he turns around to collect his bottle of Hennessy, waiting for you to slip into your heels.
Down the hall, Erwin, Hange, Petra, and Levi share a room, where they host the pre-game. Mikasa and Jean eventually join, as well as some other seniors. The president and vice president leave first to set up downstairs, dragging their dates along with them. One by one, more people leave until it’s just you, Mike, Mikasa, and Jean.
As it gets closer to dinnertime, you wobble towards the ballroom, tipsy and giggly from the cognac. Mike tries to hold you steady, but he’s no better off. You take a quick look at the seating chart, noting your assignment. Mikasa follows Jean to the other side of the room as you and Mike make your way to Table 3, finding it already mostly occupied. Petra and Levi, who you just saw, greet you with amused expressions on their faces.
It takes you a minute to register that Eren is seated at the same table, staring at you with wide eyes and a clenched jaw. This is not a part of your plan.
Regardless, this is going to be fun.
Avoiding his gaze, you and Mike occupy the empty seats between Pieck and Levi. You acknowledge your neighbor with a smile, who returns it.
“I love your dress. You look so pretty!” you compliment her.
“Thank you. You look pretty, too.”
You continue to chat with Pieck, completely ignoring Eren, who is visibly uncomfortable beside her.
You’re not exactly sure what the next step in your plan is yet. Once you made it to the dance, you figure you’d toy with him, flaunt your sexy black dress in his face until he’s drooling. And if you have the chance to catch him alone tonight, then you’d confront him, ending your relationship once and for all. But there’s no way to predict if that opportunity will ever come, considering how unlikely it is to get a moment alone together. Deciding to go with the flow, you try to relax, relishing the way Eren sneaks subtle glances at you.
Dinner starts. Mike is already on his third drink from the bar, speech slurred, tie loosened. Definitely drunk. Levi attempts to slow him down by switching his cocktail with a glass of water, which works until Mike finally notices the difference. By the time the entrees are out, he gets up once more for another rum and coke.
For the first time all night, you hear Eren speak. “He’s fucking wasted.” There’s malice in his voice, clearly annoyed.
Levi shrugs. “He always does this at formals.”
Eren rolls his eyes. “It’s distracting.”
Petra chimes in. “Oh, he’s harmless.”
He stands up abruptly, rattling the table. “Whatever. I’m getting some punch.”
You wait a minute or two to make your move. “I’m going to get punch too. Anybody want anything?”
Pieck says, “I’d like some, please.”
“You got it. I’ll be right back.”
Eren is alone when you approach the refreshments table, opposite side of the room from where the bar is. He takes a sip from his punch before reaching into his pocket for a flask. He notices you as you pour two cups of punch for yourself and Pieck.
He looks around, making sure the coast is clear. “What are you doing here?”
“Oh, so you’re actually speaking to me in public now?”
He ignores that, repeating, “What are you doing here?”
“I’m getting myself and your date punch, since you aren’t doing it yourself.”
Taking a deep breath, he mutters, “You know what I mean. Why didn’t you tell me you were coming here with Mike?”
“Why should I? You never told me that you were going to bring Pieck until after the fact. And as far as I know, we don’t have to tell each other anything. You’re not my boyfriend.”
He blinks at you, seemingly at a loss for words. You continue to glare at him, waiting for a response.
After a couple of seconds, he murmurs, “This is different.”
“How?”
“I have no intentions of fucking Pieck. But Mike…I know he’s trying to fuck you.”
“Is that all I’m good for? Sex? Has it ever crossed your mind that Mike actually likes me?” Your composure is beginning to crack.
“Come on, I see the way he looks at you. He’s a fucking skeeze,” he spits out.
“So what? At least he talks to me. Acknowledges my existence.”
He swallows hard, saying in a low voice, “That’s not fair.”
“Well, it’s the truth.”
You stare at one another, neither of you backing down. You’re tempted to tell him it’s over, that you want to end it with him. But it still doesn’t feel like the right time yet. Maybe you want it to hurt a little more.
As you turn around to walk back to the table, you hear him say, “You look beautiful, by the way. You are beautiful.”
Shit. You promised yourself you wouldn’t fall for his sweet talk. Every time he calls you that, your heart flutters.
Without responding, you walk away from him and back to your seat, handing Pieck her punch. Mike is back in his chair, scarfing down his steak. A few minutes later, Eren sits down, clearing his throat nervously. Focused on the plate of food in front of you, his compliment replays in your head like lyrics to your favorite song. You grip your fork tightly, upset for wavering, trying to convince yourself that it doesn’t mean anything.
You eat your meal in peace, casually chatting with the others, except for Eren, who remains sullen and quiet. Dessert is served and there’s a couple of minutes for everyone to digest and socialize. Erwin makes a quick announcement, thanking all of the brothers for a great semester, despite last year’s scandal. He even gives a special shoutout to Sigma Nu Kappa for a successful partnership, helping them regain their well-received reputation. He signals to the DJ, who starts up the music again, formally opening up the dancefloor.
“Let’s go,” Eren mumbles to Pieck.
She has an excited expression on her face as she asks, “Are we going to dance?”
“No, we’re going to Reiner’s table. C’mon.”
Frowning, she follows him to where Reiner and Bertolt sit with their dates, looking bored and unenthused.
Grinning at Mike, you yank his wrist, beckoning him to the dancefloor. He gives you a goofy smile and follows, joining your friends who already started dancing. More people surround you, creating a lively atmosphere as the music blares through the speakers.
Mike dances behind you, sliding his hands around your waist to pull you in closer. He buries his face in the crook of your neck, the bold scent of liquor emanating from his warm breath. You feel the vibrations on your skin as he hums along to the song.
You place your hands over his, swinging your hips in rhythm to the music as he moves with you. You glance over to where Eren’s sits, sulking right alongside Reiner and Bertolt, their poor guests watching the rest of the crowd in envy. Once in a while, your eyes meet; you quickly look away to turn your attention back to Mike and the rest of your friends.
~~~
The last person Eren expects to see tonight is her. Yet, here she is, gorgeous and stunning, exactly like in his fantasies. She wears that dress as if it was tailored to her and only her. It’s perfection.
Except for the fact that Mike is wrapped around her like a fucking snake.
The universe has a funny way of messing with Eren. And rightfully so, considering what an asshole he’s been. Still, this form of punishment seems a little too cruel.
He watches from a distance as he slithers all over her, practically salivating on her, similar to a beast in the wild preparing for a feast. Eren’s skin crawls with rage and jealousy.
“You’re not going to dance, are you?” he hears Sandra ask Reiner, who slouches lazily in his seat.
“Nope.”
Rolling her eyes, she says, “Fine. I’m going to join Hitch and her friends then. You’re boring.”
“Whatever, have fun with those freaks,” he mumbles.
Suddenly, Eren feels a tap on his shoulder, finding Pieck and Louise standing together with their purses in hand. “Louise and I are going back to campus. She’s not feeling well.”
He quickly turns around to look at Bertolt, who’s propped up on his elbow against the table, looking absolutely disinterested.
Facing the girls again, he asks Pieck, “You have to go too?”
She nods. “Yeah, I don’t want her to go alone.”
“Are you coming back?”
“I don’t think so. Honestly, you’re not a fun person.”
Ouch. Her bluntness stings. Can he blame her, though? He’s not exactly a bundle of joy right now.
“Anyways, our Uber is coming, so we’re just going to wait outside.” They walk towards the exit, leaving the three moody Alpha Tau brothers alone.
Eren leans back in his chair, defeated. He envisioned formal differently. In his imagination, he’s having fun with her as his date. He should be out there right now, not Mike. Dancing, smiling, and laughing around their friends. Happy and carefree together. Instead, he’s sitting in the corner, pretending to be too cool to have a good time.
It's his own fault. He refuses to admit it out loud, but he did let Reiner influence his decisions. Is he really that desperate to create a reputation for himself that won’t matter in a few years? Maybe even in a few months? At the rate he’s going, he’ll be known for being a dud anyways. It’s not like he was actively trying to be a fuck boy, considering he’s only ever wanted to be with her since they started.
Besides, what’s so bad about dating a Sigma Nu Kappa? Reiner is the only one who seems to have an issue with it. On his big brother’s word alone, Eren has been convinced that dating an SNK girl is a disgrace. He didn’t even think to question it until now. There’s nothing wrong with them. Sure, Annie can be scary most of the time, but he recognizes how loyal she is to those she cares about. Mikasa has been his friend for years, and while she can be just as intense as he is, she loves her friends fiercely.
And with her, he can’t think of any major flaws. To him, she’s beautiful, inside and out.
He lays his head on the table, confused about his feelings, which are constantly in limbo. So much so that even he can’t keep up with himself. Again, he wonders why this is more difficult than it needs to be. Is he that afraid of falling in love?
From his peripheral, he notices her and Mike walk off the dancefloor. The senior heads straight to the bar while she exits the ballroom. Without thinking, Eren follows her from a distance. In the hotel lobby, he watches her make her way outside, probably to cool herself down after nearly an hour of dancing.
He sinks into one of the couches, waiting for her to reappear. He wants a moment alone, just the two of them. Away from the crowd, uninterrupted by the music. Most of all, he wants to invite her to his room now that he has it all to himself. This is an opportunity he didn’t think he’d get at all today. He’ll regret it if he doesn’t take advantage of it.
Once she’s back in the lobby, she heads down the hallway leading to the bathrooms. Giving him the opening he’s been wishing for all night.
~~~
After an hour of dancing, you feel yourself overheating from the constant movement and the heat radiating from the crowd. You and Mike decide to take a break. He leaves for the bar to take shots with Erwin and the other seniors. Sweat beading on your forehead, you make your way outside, in dire need for fresh air. Pieck and Louise are huddled, standing at the curb.
“Are you two leaving already?” you ask, waving your hand across your face like a fan, still burning up from all the dancing.
Pieck replies, “Yeah. Louise isn’t feeling well, so we’re going back.”
“Oh no! Are you alright? Do you need medicine or anything?”
Louise grins, answering, “Do you have a pill for someone dying of boredom? Because that’s what I need for Bertolt.”
Surprised and amused at her joke, you chuckle, “What do you mean?”
“He barely talks! Every time I try to start a conversation, he only gives me one-word answers. And he keeps ogling at Annie. That dude has it so bad for her, it’s sad.”
“So you’re not really sick?”
“Of course not. I just needed an excuse to get us out of there.”
Laughing, you look over at Pieck. “How about you? Were you not having fun either?”
She shrugs, that same polite smile on her face. “Not really.”
“You should have joined us on the dancefloor!”
She laughs. “But how would I get out of spending the night in the same room as Eren? I figured it’s better to just bail completely.” She pauses, then says, “You know, he’s always staring at you.”
Surprised by her observation, you look at her, silently waiting for her to explain further.
“It was just like at the Halloween party. Either he really hates you or he’s absolutely crazy about you. I’m guessing it’s the latter.”
You look down at the ground, flustered. “I don’t know about that.”
She leans in to nudge you gently in the arm. “It’s pretty obvious he’s got a thing for you. I even told him earlier today how I was surprised that he was taking me instead of you. His girlfriend.”
“I am not his girlfriend. I’m sure he told you that, too.”
“Yeah, he did. But he’s a dumb, immature boy. Of course he’s too proud to admit it.”
“I don’t think it’s pride that’s getting in his way. It’s his ego.” Fearing you revealed too much, you veer off. “Anyways, I’m sorry you two didn’t have a good time.”
“At least the food was good,” Louise comments. Her phone chimes. “Oh, our Uber is almost here. Tell Mikasa I say bye! I didn’t get a chance to tell her I’m leaving.”
“Will do. Have a safe ride home!” You bid them farewell then walk back into the lobby, the distinct thump of the bass resounding from the ballroom. Still feeling sticky with sweat, you head to the bathroom down an empty hallway to blot your face and touch up your makeup.
As you exit, you notice Eren leaning against the wall, waiting for you. The two of you hold each other’s gaze for a few seconds before he suddenly takes you by the wrist and leads you farther into the hall, hidden behind a large plant.
Back pressed to the wall, trapped by both his hands at either side of your head, you stare at him wide-eyed as he studies you with uneven breaths. You swallow hard, muttering his name.
One of his hands slide over your shoulder, fingertips tickling your skin gently until they’re at your wrist. He brings your hand up to his lips and scatters soft kisses in between your knuckles.
“My date left, so I have the room all to myself. Room 324. Come by,” he whispers, kissing the inside of your wrist. “Please.”
You feel your heart race and a familiar sensation fluttering below your belly as he continues to kiss you, green eyes peering at you longingly.
“I’m with Mike,” you stutter, suddenly shy under his gaze.
“Well, if he’s too drunk to get it up, you know where to find me,” he teases, smiling into your skin. He drops your hand and cups your cheek, leaning in closer. “Can I kiss you?”
Every fiber of your being is screaming at you to refuse his advances. But one kiss wouldn’t hurt, right? You reach for the collar of his sweater and push your lips together. His tongue slips inside your mouth in an instant, eager for a taste.
You pull away from him. “Maybe I don’t want to see you later tonight.”
He flashes a cocky smirk. “Sure. Whatever you say.”
You’re tempted to kiss him once more. Instead, you push him off and walk away, heading back into the ballroom.
Mike is slouched onto Levi’s shoulder at your table. When Levi spots you, he yells out, “Oi, I think I’m going to bring him back to your room now. He’s pretty much passed out.”
You sit beside them, stroking Mike’s arm. “Is he okay?”
“Yeah, he’s fine. Just piss drunk. Feel free to hang out here for a little while longer.”
“No, it’s okay. I’ll help you,” you offer. “Just in case.”
“Alright. Let’s go.”
The two of you sling Mike’s arms over your shoulders, carrying him as he drags his feet languidly. Once you’re back inside your room, you and Levi carefully place him on the bed, where he shifts around until he’s snuggled with a pillow, grunting occasionally. Levi snorts, “Idiot.”
He looks to you and says, “Thanks for helping me. Sorry he’s like this.”
“No worries. I’m not mad. I should have expected this.”
Levi leaves, heading back as you sit at the edge of the bed, watching Mike snore noisily. You fill a glass of water and set it on the dresser beside him in case he needs to hydrate. You poke him with your finger, which only causes him to mumble something incoherent. To be fair, you were warned about this.
You hear your phone vibrate in your purse. There’s one new message:
Eren: I’m in my room now
Staring at the text, you contemplate your next move. This is the opportunity you were hoping for. A moment alone with Eren, a chance to fulfill what you need to do. Despite all the anger and resentment you harbor for him, there’s still a part of you that desires to be with him one last time.
Letting your feet lead you to Room 324, you decide to give in to one more moment of weakness.
~~~
Eren sits at the end of the bed, staring at the text message he just sent, eagerly waiting for a response. Tapping his foot nervously, he checks his phone every five seconds to make sure he isn’t missing anything.
Ten grueling minutes pass and a gentle knock on the door stirs his insides. He takes a deep breath and opens the door, thrilled to see her, still in her sensual black dress that’s been tantalizing him all fucking night.
He pulls her into the room, double locking the door when it shuts. Squishing her adorable cheeks between his palms, he leans forward and kisses her hungrily, tongue licking her lips and grazing her teeth. Desperate to taste every bit of her that he’s been deprived of all week long.
They lie on the bed, him on top of her, his hands roaming her body starting from her neck down to her legs. Flirting with the seductive slit exposing her thighs. The dress is skintight, hugging every inch of her figure flawlessly. His cock is already hard beneath his slacks, and they haven’t even undressed yet.
“Take my clothes off,” she breathes out, rolling to her side to show him the zipper. He obeys, marveling at her bare back as he splits the dress open. He trails kisses along the skin he uncovers. She slides the dress off at her shoulders, where he gives her a nibble, resulting in that cute giggle he loves hearing so much.
“Don’t giggle like that with anyone else. Only me,” he demands, kissing her sloppily as he shoves her dress lower to reveal her breasts. He hovers over her, sucking at one of her nipples until it’s plump and taut between his lips.
“Fuck,” she moans, squirming beneath him as she wiggles out of her dress completely. In record time, Eren strips off all of his clothes, leaving just his briefs, barely concealing his erection.
“I’ve missed you,” he whispers, mouth surrounding her other tit as his fingers drift to her arousal, rubbing at the wet spot of her black lace panties. “I’ve missed this pretty pussy, too.”
He slips his middle finger pass the fabric, collecting the slick from her entrance to rub onto her clit. Upon contact, her hips buck, begging for more of his touch. With a chuckle, he releases her nipple from his mouth to suck on a spot on her neck, hard enough to leave a mark. He buries his nose in the divot of her collarbone, inhaling her intoxicating, familiar scent.
“Can I taste you?” he asks, dying to quench his thirst, willing to drown in her arousal.
She nods, fingers hooking the hem of her underwear to remove them. He slides them off her, eyeing her naked body greedily.
“Sit on my face. I want it to drip into my mouth.”
She curses under her breath, scooting over for him to lie down. He can’t help but smile as she straddles him, gripping the headboard and slowly lowering her hips so her pussy is flush against his lips.
“Don’t hold back, baby. Ride my face like you ride my cock.” With his hands on her hips, he sucks on her clit until she’s whining in pleasure, slick trickling out of her slit and onto his chin.
She rocks back and forth, obeying his instructions like the good girl she’s always been.
“Come all over my face, baby. Get that pussy really wet for my cock.”
Moaning, she ruts against him faster, his lips surrounding her as he flicks her clit with his tongue rapidly. Cum coats his mouth and chin. She carefully lifts herself off, kneeling besides him, eyes glazed over from her orgasm.
Sitting up to face her, he caresses her cheek, pulling her in for a passionate kiss. He takes his time, appreciating her supple lips and the subtle contrast of his rough thumb brushing over the delicate skin of her cheekbone. He reaches down his briefs, sliding them off and tossing them to the floor. He strokes his cock, craving to feel her lush walls squeeze tightly around him.
~~~
Eren breaks away, slightly out of breath, whispering, “Can you ride me? I want to see your face.”
The words slip out of his mouth, smooth like butter, enticing as ever. You nod, granting his request. Knowing this will be the last time.
He lies back down, gazing at you. You straddle his lap, rubbing your wet folds against him before you position your entrance at the tip of his dick. Without using your hands, you slide onto him, feeling the vibrations from his gravely moans reverberate through his chest.
You ride him slowly, thrusting your ass onto his hard cock. He squeezes your hips, directing you to move faster. You resist, determined to set your own pace. For once, you’re in control, not him.
“Fuck, you’re so good. You’re so fucking good to me,” he chants as you grind onto his lap. You start moaning along with him, succumbing to the pleasure, leaning onto his chest, and listening to his racing heartbeat. He keeps one hand at your waist; the other at the nape of your neck, pulling you in closer.
“God, you’re beautiful. I’m so lucky. I’m so fucking lucky,” he whispers to you, lips grazing your ear. You tilt your head up to meet his gaze.
“Kiss me,” he says, staring at you with soft eyes, yearning for you.
You lean in to brush your lips against his, making him think everything is fine. Sending him to Cloud 9 so that he can crash down onto the cold, hard dirt once you’re through with him.
After a few minutes of fucking, he mutters, “I’m sorry.”
The apology catches you off guard. He’s pulling every weapon out of his arsenal, his velvety words attempting to latch on to you like a leech.
“I’m sorry about tonight. I’ll make it up to you, okay? I promise.”
You don’t respond. With your eyes shut, you continue to ride him, letting your second orgasm build up.
He caresses your cheek again, thumb brushing the soft skin right below your eye. “Baby, please look at me.”
His expression is sincere; there’s warmth in the way he looks at you, affection in the small smile he displays.
“I’m yours, okay? I’m all yours.”
You’re close. It’s almost over. He’s tugging at your heartstrings like he never has before. But this time, it’s not enough. You’re not falling for it anymore.
“I promise you; everything is going to be okay,” he whispers, kissing your forehead, voice trembling.
He makes promises just as easily as he breaks them. You’ve lost trust in him completely. His words mean nothing. They no longer have this everlasting hold on you.
Still silent except for the soft whines that escape from your lips, you ride him faster, wanting to milk him for all he’s worth. Take advantage of him the way he has with you.
“Fuck,” he groans, planting his feet onto the bed and moving his hips in rhythm with your thrusts. “You’re going to make me come, sweetie. Is that what you want?”
You nod into his neck, his hands now holding you in place as he starts pounding into your pussy relentlessly.
“Okay, baby. I’ll give it to you. I’m all yours. All yours,” he repeats, fucking you until you reach your orgasm, letting the pleasure sweep through you.
Soon after, he groans a drawn out, “Fuck,” as you feel his hot load fill you up.
He holds you in his arms, no rush to let you go. Nose pressed into the top of your head, inhaling and exhaling deeply. You savor the steady cadence of his heartbeat, the rise and fall of his chest, the warmth of his skin. Letting yourself imagine only for a short moment that this is what could’ve been if it was any different with you two. Nostalgic for a relationship that never really existed to begin with. One that was doomed from the start.
Maybe you’ll meet again in another lifetime. One where it’s genuine. Painless. Easy.
Just not this one.
His arms loosen as soon as you initiate movement. You remain silent as you pick your dress off the floor and carry it with you into the bathroom. The knob turned all the way to hot, you wait as the heat from the shower fills the space with a steamy cloud. Stepping in carefully, you let the water rinse any cum and sweat from your body, erasing all traces of Eren.
When you’re finally cleansed, you dry yourself with a towel and slip into your black dress. Studying your reflection in the mirror, you take a few deep breaths, preparing for your final act.
~~~
Eren cannot stop smiling.
He’s lying on the bed, palms behind his head, arms splayed out to the sides. Cock glistening with cum. Sheets messy, pillows disheveled all from their love making. He’s in fucking paradise. Whenever they have sex, he always feels on top of the world. Totally and utterly elated. Soaring on Cloud 9.
The best part is that it’s not Mike who she’ll be spending the rest of the night with. It’s him. Eren is the winner. He gets the prize.
It doesn’t even bother him how he uprooted his buried feelings for her. He’ll blame it on the alcohol, which has since dissipated from his bloodstream nearly an hour ago. Or he’ll blame it on being caught up in their fuck fest. Either way, it seems she’s no longer mad at him. He’s got everything under control.
Several minutes pass before she comes out of the bathroom, wearing her black dress. He stretches his arms out, beckoning her back into bed. “Come here, baby. Let’s cuddle.”
She leans down to collect her heels and purse from the floor. “I’m leaving.”
He grins at her odd joke. “Baby, stop kidding around. Come here.”
“I’m leaving,” she repeats. “I don’t want to do this anymore.”
The smile fades, his brain slowly processing the words coming out of her mouth. “What? What are you talking about?”
“Eren, I’m ending this. It’s over. You and me. We’re done.”

The next day, you didn’t leave your room. Sherry and Frankie brought you food and tried to coax you out. But all you could do was cry and lucidly beg them to get Daryl; they left you alone. You spent the day watching shadows cross the floor and staring at the ceiling as thoughts danced around you.
You pictured Glenn and Abraham, and then you cried for them. Then you wondered desperately how Maggie was doing, and the baby and you cried for her. You cried for Rick and Michonne, for Rosita, and Carl and Tora. You wanted to go home more than anything.
Sherry and Frankie visited you before dinner, bringing you a bag with a few books. “I thought you might like these; they’re from the library. You can go anytime you want and take whatever you want.” Sherry told you as she sat down.
Frankie approached you on the bed and sat beside you, sweeping back your hair. “Hey, sweetie,” She said sadly, “How are you holding up?”
You glanced at her and nodded slowly, “I’m okay.”
“Your hair is getting so long. Do you want me to give it a cut?” She offered.
You nodded because of her generosity and because you actually did like her, and she excused herself to find her hair-cutting tools.
While she was gone, you sat up and looked at Sherry. She was leaning forward on her knees and looked more than just preoccupied with a few thoughts.
“Sherry?” You asked her, waiting to get her attention. “Why do you care about me so much? It doesn’t matter to you if I live or die,”
She looked at you for a long minute before coming over to you. “I debated on telling you this… I couldn’t stand the thought of you hating me. The other wives don’t know, but I…” She breathed out.
“What?”
“Dwight and I tried to escape with my sister a while back. This was before I married Negan. We met Daryl on the road. Did he tell you about it?”
“Vaguely…”
Sherry nodded and tucked her hair behind her ear. “We thought he was one of the saviors, so we kept him hostage. But he was able to take off, and you see, Tina, my sister, was diabetic. We couldn’t afford her medications. So we had stolen them, and the saviors were after us. And I guess Daryl saw the medicine because he came back. And he helped us when Tina was bit.”
You weren’t sure what to say, so you stayed quiet and let her speak.
“We stole his bike and the crossbow and went back to Negan. I wanted to run but Dwight he… he wanted to protect me. Negan was going to kill him, but I offered to marry him instead. And now Daryl’s here anyway, after what we did…” Sherry started to cry.
“And I just feel so guilty. And when I found out about you and Daryl, how Dwight said you two must’ve been an item or something, I just had to protect you. I had to help you. I’m so sorry, (Y/N).” She cried.
You moved from your spot and went to her, wrapping your arms around her shoulders. It made sense now why she tried to help you so much. And why she seemed to be intent on protecting you. “It’s okay, it’s okay,” You tried to soothe her.
“It’s not okay, but I’m trying to amend what I’ve done.” Sherry looked at you. “I know you’ve only been here a week, but I hope you know you can trust me. What I owe to Daryl, I can never repay him. But I can help you.”
You nodded and gave her a hug. You knew what she did wasn’t okay, but she was trying to make amends. And she helped you; she probably saved your life, even if it wasn’t a life you wanted anymore. And regardless of what she’s done, you couldn’t find it in your heart to hate her. The two of you were going through the exact situation.
“How do you stand it? What Negan did to him…” You asked her when you pulled away. “Every time I see Daryl, I want to scream. I can’t imagine what they’re doing to him, what they’ve done.”
“I don’t stand it. I drink, I smoke, I do anything to try and forget. But Dwight’s alive and one of Negan’s top men. What else can we do? We tried running before…”
“We can do it again, together,” You said. “We can get them and go.”
“Where, (Y/N)?” She asked. “There’s nowhere to go. We have shelter here; we’re safe here. We have food and running water, and electricity. You can’t go back to Alexandria, you know that. Negan will spend every resource he can looking for us. Especially you and me. And you have people at Alexandria he'll take it out on, too.”
You deflated as you realized she was right.
“I…”
“I know you want to be with Daryl. But he’s alive," Sherry stressed. “Let’s just… let’s just think about this. It would take a lot of work to get out.”
Just then, the door opened, and Frankie walked in. “Amber needs to talk to you, Sher.”
Sherry squeezed your arm as you both stood, and she bid goodbye. Frankie smiled at you, obviously pleased you were up and out of bed.
“I brought the scissors; let’s give you a cut!”
***
The next day, you were in the wives' room, trying to control yourself. The mess from two days ago had been cleaned up, and you had to keep telling yourself that nothing happened, and that you were being silly for acting this way. What Sherry said was right; as of now, you were safe. Everyone you loved wasn’t, but you were safe. And you could figure everything else out.
You were absent-mindedly listening to Tanya and Frankie discuss a book they’d been reading when the door opened, and you heard a familiar bell. Your stomach clenched as you watched Tora run into the room, looking scared and on edge.
“Tora!” You exclaimed, dropping down to the floor. She meowed profusely as she ran over to you, and you scooped her up in your arms. She was immediately purring and rubbing her face against yours as you cried.
“Oh my God,” Frankie laughed as she approached you. “A cat? How?”
You laughed through your tears. “This is Tora. She’s been with me since before.” You cried, trying to control yourself.
Another presence made himself known, and you looked up at Negan, who was leaning against the doorframe. He had a smile on his face, a genuine one, and he walked over.
“A little birdie in Alexandria told me that the cat was yours,” Negan said, “I’d like to say I’m surprised, but I’m really not.” Negan laughed, giving Tora a rub on the head.
“I…” You didn’t have any words.
“I sent out a group to get some stuff for her since she won’t be able to go outside here.” Negan said, “But I thought it might make you feel more at home here, and I knew you all would just love her.”
There was a chorus of thank you’s, yours not included. But you maintained eye contact with Negan, and despite how much you hated it, he knew how much it meant to you.
Negan wished everyone goodnight before he left and shut the doors behind him. You let Tora go, and all the women started playing with her with whatever they could find. She was a little skeptical but warmed up quickly with all the attention.
You sat on the couch and watched, wiping away tears. Sherry sat down next to you and said softly. “He doesn’t do that for just everyone.” You looked at her with confusion. “We get whatever we want here. But he doesn’t do anything like that. I think you’re really special to him.”
“I don’t understand…” Your voice trailed off.
“Nobody does. That’s the problem with Negan. He’s a monster. I know it. You know it. But then there are times…” Her voice trailed off. “He’ll give you more time after what happened. But he’ll be expecting sex soon. He won’t force it, but if…”
“If I know what’s good for me and Daryl, I have to do it.” You finished her sentence.
***
More days passed since Tora arrived at the sanctuary, and even if you didn’t want to admit it, it brought a little life back into you. The run group Negan sent out brought back everything you could possibly need, and Negan had the worker who cleaned all of the wives room’s add Tora’s new litter box to her list.
You felt awful about it, but Sherry told you to let it go. Still, you ensured the worker had something to eat and drink each time she came up. It became a little secret between the two of you.
Negan visited you every evening at the same time unless he was out. He would eat with you all and talk about his day while you and the other wives would listen and share conversations. He hadn’t made an attempt to have sex with you yet, but as each day passed, you knew it was coming.
You hadn’t seen Daryl much, aside from when he was out manning the fence--you could see him from the sitting room, where you watched him more often than not--or mopping up the floors while you walked around with Sherry. The two of you knew better than to speak to each other, but each time you made eye contact, you shared a nod. And it broke your heart every single time.
As usual, you were with the girls, reading a book with Tora on your lap. She’d adapted nicely to the new space, and the wives agreed to keep her on this floor for her safety. She loved the company of all the women and all the affection she got.
Amber was talking with Sherry about what happened with Mark, who you knew she had slept with. You’d learned from Sherry yesterday and dreaded the altercation with Negan.
You heard voices before the doors opened, and everyone tensed simultaneously.
“Ladies,” Negan greeted you all.
When you turned to look at the man, your mouth parted, and your heart dropped to your feet when you saw Carl standing there. The book fell from your grasp, and you stood, knocking Tora off. She didn’t seem to mind because she immediately ran up to him and started rubbing against his legs.
“Carl?” You said, slowly approaching him.
Negan looked at you with that smile again, and your skin crawled. “Baby, can you believe this kid? He hopped on my truck and then gunned down two of my men! The balls on this kid.”
Your fingers were trembling as you made eye contact with Carl. Then you turned to Negan, “Can I talk to him, please? Just for a second. I’ll do anything.” You knew exactly what he would cash in for the word anything.
Negan smiled and rubbed his jaw. “Anything. I sure do love that word on your lips. Go ahead, baby, just for you.”
You breathed a sigh of relief and walked up to Carl, cupping his cheeks. “Carl, what are you doing here? Are you stupid?” You asked quietly, knowing that everyone in the room was listening. “Are you okay? Why didn’t you just stay in Alexandria?”
Carl didn’t answer, but he looked at you with every emotion on his face. You knew he was playing tough, really tough, but you knew him.
You sighed again and leaned forward, not being able to help yourself. You kissed him quickly on the forehead, over his bandages, and then stepped back. You didn’t want to push your luck with Negan.
“My, my, my, and she’s good with kids,” Negan said, “Maybe I should think about expanding the family, then.”
Carl looked up at Negan then, and you saw the exact look you’ve seen in Rick so many times. “Don’t you dare," Carl said.
“Carl, it’s okay,” You rushed out before Negan could even speak. “It’s okay. I’m Negan’s wife now, so… so if that’s what he wants, that will happen. Don’t worry about anything. I’m alright. I’m perfect. I’m happy here.” You rambled on, trying desperately to make sure Negan didn’t do anything to the kid.
Negan smiled at you as more saviors entered the room, and Daryl appeared with them. Your lips trembled as you locked eyes with him, the closest you’ve been to him in days. And he had heard everything you just said.
But with one look in his eyes, you knew he didn’t believe you. He saw right through it, through you, like he always did.
A hand grabbed your arm, and you looked back at Negan. “Isn’t my new wife just perfect?” He asked nobody in particular before he leaned down and kissed you on your mouth.
You froze for a moment as your brain went wild. You didn’t know what to do. To pull away from him in front of everything would make him mad, and you knew who he’d take it out on. So you did the only thing you could think of that would keep everybody safe. You leaned in and kissed him back.
Negan smiled at you as he pulled away. “Oh, I’m gonna love this.” He said to you and then turned back to both Daryl and Carl. “Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot you guys were here. (Y/N), baby, be a dear and fetch me a drink.”
You clenched your fists and nodded, turning your back on them and walking to the minibar. You blinked away tears and swallowed the lump in your throat. The feeling of Negan’s facial hair still tickled you, and you wanted to take a long, hot shower to get rid of the feeling.
After making his favorite drink--one you’d learned to make perfectly the past few days--you brought it over to him as he talked quietly with Sherry. Then you went and sat down in your chair with trembling fingers and tried not to look at anyone. But you could feel Daryl’s gaze. You hoped and prayed he wouldn't do anything stupid. Not after what he saw.
After Negan and Sherry finished talking, and he went to Amber, you knew exactly what it was. You stood up and walked across the room to Sherry, who was making a drink.
“Mark?” You asked her. When she nodded, you poured yourself a drink and took a shot. When you turned back and looked at Negan talking to her, then looked at Daryl and Carl, who were both staring at you. You slowly shook your head.
“Here, you’re gonna need one more for this,” Sherry told you. She handed you another drink, which had a bigger pour. But you didn’t question it and knocked it back.
***
An hour later, everyone was gathered in the main room of the compound. Sherry told you what was coming; you knew very well about the iron from conversations with her and the other wives. But you hadn’t seen it yet and felt like you would be sick.
When Negan finally showed up, you thanked the lord that Carl was with him, but your fingers twitched when you saw that he wasn’t wearing his bandages and looked shaken up. You felt like screaming and throwing something. And you felt hopeless. All you wanted was to be able to protect Carl, and you didn’t even know what Negan did upstairs.
Sherry grabbed your hand when Negan started to talk and walked down the stairs. To your right were Frankie and Amber, and the ladder was holding a scared and frightened Amber.
Daryl was with one of the other guards across the room, usually with him. With Negan’s attention elsewhere, you could show Daryl emotions you’d had to keep hidden. Your face softened, and you bit your lip and pressed your free hand over your heart. You hoped he knew what you were trying to say. That you were scared, and you were doing what you had to do, and that he was the only person in your heart.
You don’t know if your look conveyed it all or even a fraction of it. But then he nodded slightly and lifted his hand. It was brief, and he played it off like he was scratching his chest, but he laid his hand over his heart.
Tears filled your eyes, and you had to look down at the floor to smile. He knew. Of course, he knew; no one in the world knew you better than him.
A few minutes later, you watched as Negan pressed the hot iron to Mark’s face. You looked at Daryl and Carl and then at poor Amber, who was going through a pain that you knew too well. Seeing a loved one hurt. That thought made you tremble, and Sherry squeezed your hand.
After it was over, Negan took Carl away, and Sherry forced you to move on. You didn’t get a chance to look at Daryl as she pulled you away.

Chapter Two: Sooooo Cute 🥰

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knocking on the door, Y/N sighed - she had a great time on her bus journey over to Lina's home (note the sarcasm) and had just barely got to the door at five minutes to six. The door swung open, Lina had a bright smile on her face.
"Hey Y/N. Come in!" Y/N smiled back at the older woman, stepping through the door and removing her coat and shoes.
"Hey, sorry I wasn't here earlier. The bus took forever to get to my stop." she whined as Lina laughed,
"Oh, no worries, darling. It happens to the best of us!" the pair walk into the living room where an adorable scene took place.
Seungmin had Lixie in his arms, talking to her about where they were going and what was happening - Lixie was listening intently to her dad. Meanwhile, Hyuna and Han were talking with Chris who seemed to be in the middle of a little tantrum. They were both holding him as they spoke and he seemed to brighten up at little as his dad tickled him on the sides. Lina walked over to her sister who was sitting on the sofa, very engrossed in whatever she was doing on her phone.
"Innie, it's time for us to leave." the girl looked up from her phone, nodding before loking over towards Y/N,
"Oh hey, I didn't hear you come in." Y/N smirked before saying,
"Well, you were probably to busy thinking about your little boy toy." the teasing remark caused Innie's ears to go red as her older sister looked around towards her,
"Innie, do you have something to tell me?" the smirk on her face, showing she was teasing, Innie's ears got impossibly darker as her sister started to laugh. This caught the attention of the others in the room, Chris and Lixie squealed as they spotted thier favourite person in the room.
"Y/N!" Chris yelled jumping off of the sofa and running up to the girl, Seungmin also put Lixie down so she could say hello.
"Y/N! Y/N!" the small girl cheered, Y/N crouched down and opened her arms for the kids to run into,
"Oh, hello little ones! Are you excited for tonight?" both children nodded at her words.
"Okay babies, come and give us a hug before we leave." Hyuna spoke up, smiling at the scene. The children ran over to Hyuna and Han giving them a hug before running to Lina and Seungmin doing the same.
"Okay, you guys be good for Y/N and Innie!" Lina spoke, walking out of the door,
"Oh, Y/N, Binnie will be here later on to pick up Chris - though I don't know what time." Hyuna called as she was pushed through the door by Han.
"Okay! Have a good time guys, say hello to your parents for me." the babysitter called as she waved them off. Walking back into the house she saw Lixie and Chris sitting either side of Innie on the sofa.
"Right... what do you guys want for dinner?"
It didn't take long for the kids to set themselves up at the dinner table, colouring books and crayons infront of them keeping them quiet for now...
Y/N and Innie were preparing the meal while gossiping about what had happened since the last time they saw each other - which was like two days ago but the tea is always hot with those two, especially if Binnie's huge tiny crush on Innie was involved.
"He came into work, with two of his friends - I don't think he realised I was there at first and then they got to the counter. His friends were ordering, everything was fine and then it was his turn." Innie paused, leaning in so the kids couldn't hear, "and I kid you not, he looked at me, froze, unfroze, turned around, and walked out. His friends were like, what the fuck!" Innie giggled,
"No way! I can't belive he did that!" Y/N spoke, giggling as the image of Binnie running out of the coffee shop,
"Literally! His friends were whispering about something while they waited for thier drinks, they kept looking over at me - so like I don't think he actually speaks about me to them."
"Wait! No way... he has to speak about you?! He's literally obsessed with you!" as Y/N finished her sentence the front door opened, the girls looked at each other in concern before they heard a voice call out,
"Hey, its Changbin." the girls looked at each other with wide eyes before giggling quietly,
"Hey Binnie, we're nearly finished with dinner. Come and sit down." Y/N spoke out to the boy, while looking at Innie with a cheeky expression. Binnie walked in as Chris jumped up to go hug his older brother, his hero Y/N found out once - which she found incredibly cute. The older boy bent down to hold his baby brother as he looked up, expecting only Y/N but spotting Innie behind her, he froze.
"Uh, hello… girls." he stuttered out, unsure on what to do. They pair smile down at him with knowing looks. Lixie seems to finally notice her big cousin, jumping down to greet him - taking his attention away from Innie.
"Hey, Lixie. How are you little one?" the three cousins started to talk as Y/N and Innie plated up food, Innie lent over towards Y/N once again,
"I have to admit that was sooooo cute." Y/N giggled, nodding.
"Bets on him flirting with you in the next ten minutes?" she teased, eyebrow raised at her bedt friend.
"Ain't no way am I taking a bet I have no hope in winning." Innie challenged, Y/N laughed before picking up some plates.
"Hey, the least you could do for him is flirt back!" she turnt towards the table, but not before catching the embarrassed look on her best friends face.
After dinner, the kids were allowed to play for a little longer, Innie went to play with the kids as Y/N and Binnie tidied up.
"How's life at the moment, Bin?" Y/N spoke first, she had known Binnie as long as she had known Hyuna and Han but never really had full coverstaions with the guy.
"Uh, yeah, it's good. Uni is kicking my arse but other then that lifes good. How about you? I hope Chris has been good for you." Y/N smiled, humming before responding,
"Uni is a pain, I understand completly. Chris is an angel ninty-nine percent of the time." the pair laughed at that, his concern about his little brother made her think about the age difference between them and how shocked Y/N was at first. Until, Innie had explained the difficulties that Hyuna had getting pregnant and the many miscarriages that she had gone through - it almost caused a huge rift between her and Han because Hyuna thought he would eventually leave her, or worse cheat on her to have another child. Luckily, Han managed to calm her down and they worked it out. Two weeks later they found out that they were expecting once again - Han literally waited on her hand and foot, making sure she was never stressed about anything and thats when they had Chris - a baby most definitly born of love and adoration. The story made Y/N cry, thinking about having a love like that was almost impossible at her age.
The pair finish the dishes in silence. Walking into the lounge, Binnie spoke,
"Hey Chris, we've gotta go buddy. It's time for bed soon." Chris pouted but got up to get ready. Y/N helped him with his coat and shoes as Binnie said goodbye to Lixie and Innie. Lixie came running out to also say goodbye to Chris, who was a little off put by the hug but reciprocated anyway. The brothers walked out the door with a wave.
Soon after Lixie was put to bed, Lina and Seungmin walked through the door. Y/N and Innie were quick to greet the couple, who sent them on their way with payment and making them promise to message once they got home. The girls left, deciding to have a sleepover at Y/N's, instead of going their seperate ways in the dark.

Natasha will take great care of you.” Yelena reassures as she drives towards the compound. She wasn’t the happiest to leave Y/N behind, but this mission was something she didn’t want her to be part of.
“I don’t need a babysitter, Yelena! I’m 15 and I know very well how to take care of myself.” Y/N looks out the window, pouting she has to be away from Yelena for such a long time. “I’ve done it for my whole life.”
“See, that’s not something we’re going to normalize. Family takes care of each other.”
The word family still makes Y/N feel weird. She isn’t sure how she’s supposed to feel hearing it. She does have some sort of family now, so she should be happy, but at the same time it makes her feel bad. Caring about people always ends badly. No matter what. You can’t win.
Y/N sighs, she knows Yelena won’t change her mind. “Will there be other people.”
“I think so.” Yelena mumbles. That’s also something she wasn’t very excited about. Leaving Y/N with Natasha is okay, but with other unknown people as well is a whole new story. Yelena doesn’t know the Avengers and she doesn’t know how Y/N will be with them. “Nat lives at the compound and I think they fixed things, so no one is a fugitive anymore.”
Y/N hums. “I get to be part of the next mission, yes?”
“Yes, I will keep my promise don’t worry.” She glances at Y/N with a grin. “It’ll be the best mission ever.”
Y/N giggles quietly. “You know every mission we do turns to shit.”
“Hey, language.” Yelena glares at her, while Y/N rolls her eyes. Sometimes Yelena takes the motherly big sister role a bit too seriously. “The next one will be good, I can feel it.”
“I will bet you ten dollars something goes wrong.”
“Deal.” Yelena and Y/N shake their hands at a red light, both having a smile on their face.
“You’ll keep her safe?” Yelena has been standing on the compound’s front door for fifteen minutes already, going over everything Natasha should know about Y/N and making sure she’ll be good.
“I will, Yelena.” Natasha smiles lightly, starting to get annoyed by her sister. She’s holding Y/N’s bag on one hand while the other lays on the younger one’s shoulder. “Nothing bad will happen to her.”
“Good, because if something bad does happen, I will kill you.”
“I know.” Natasha chuckles.
Yelena grumbles at Natasha not taking her threat seriously, so she just turns to Y/N and gives her a tight hug. “I won’t be gone for too long and you can contact me whenever you want to, okay?”
“Okay.” Y/N mumbles to Yelena’s shoulder. She is pressing her head against her, not wanting the involuntary tears to fall. “Be safe.”
“I will.” Yelena kisses her head and backs away from the hug. “Have fun with Natasha!” She starts walking away to her car, waving at the two until the door closes.
Y/N lets out a shaky breath as Natasha starts leading her towards a guest bedroom that’s next to Natasha’s own. “You’ll be sleeping here, is that okay?” Natasha sets Y/N’s bag to the bed.
“Yes, thank you.” Natasha keeps standing around the room quietly while Y/N carefully sits down to the bed. “You don’t have to hover. I know I’m not your sister like Yelena is. Besides, Lena hovers over me more than a family of five combined.” She scoffs with a small smile. She doesn’t hate Yelena’s hovering. It actually makes her feel cared for and safe, but sometimes she takes it too far. Like right now, Y/N would’ve been perfectly capable to go on the mission.
“I’m not doing this just because Yelena asked me to, I genuinely like you and think of you as part of the family.” Natasha sits down next to Y/N. She has a small smile on her face.
“Oh.”
Natasha hums, looking at Y/N’s hands that keep moving. “There won’t be a lot of people around. Wanda is away with Vision, she really wanted to meet you though. And the rest of them are kind of all around.”
“That’s okay. I prefer being around fewer people anyway.”
“So do I.” Natasha stands up, swiping invisible dust off of her hands. “You should rest. You can meet the people who still are here tomorrow. That sound good?”
“Yeah. Thank you, Natasha.”
“Of course.” Natasha gives her a smile before leaving Y/N alone in the room.
Slowly opening her eyes, Y/N looks around the room. The unfamiliarity of it makes her panic momentarily, but she regains her sense of surrounding quickly. The Avengers Compound. She is supposed to be here. She is safe.
Y/N moves the covers aside to stand up. She crosses her arms around her waist, holding herself tightly. She stands in front of the bedroom door, too nervous to actually leave.
At least fifteen minutes pass by. Y/N keeps staring at the door. She isn’t sure which rooms she’s allowed to go, or where the different rooms even are.
Biting her lip, Y/N takes hold of the handle and opens the door. She steps outside. The corridor is almost fully white and full of doors, probably to other bedrooms. She picks a direction and starts walking, her eyes going through everything, especially corners. Old habits die hard.
After a few turns, she starts to hear talking, so she walks towards it. Glancing around a corner, she sees Natasha and an unknown man talking together. With a deep breath, she makes herself known to the pair by walking in.
Natasha turns her way first. “Good morning.”
“Hi.”
The man turns to look at her as well. “Y/N, this is Steve Rogers, the Captain America. Steve, this is Y/N, she was in the Red Room.” She doesn’t mention Yelena or being sisters, Y/N isn’t even sure if Steve knows about it all.
“It’s nice to meet you, Y/N.” Steve walks over to her and puts his hand out.
Y/N stares at him. He’s big and looks strong, but Y/N thinks she could take him down if necessary. “Yeah, you too.” She mumbles, shaking his hand for a very short amount.
“I made breakfast.” Natasha shows a plate of waffles.
“She didn’t actually make them, they’re from the freezer.” Steve fake whispers so Natasha could clearly hear him.
She rolls her eyes, setting two plates down to the table. “Don’t you have a run to go to?”
“Yeah, yeah.” Steve holds up his hands in mock surrender, a smile on his face. “I’m going. Have fun you two.” He walks away.
Natasha gestures towards a chair opposite of her. Y/N walks over to it, sitting down. She stares at the plate full of waffles. There are so much it could feed her and Yelena.
“I wasn’t sure how hungry you are. No need to eat it all.” Natasha smiles quiet sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck. “There’s berries and syrup, take whatever you want. Do you want orange juice? Or apple? We also have water, of course.”
Y/N looks at Natasha. She seems nervous, which is different. She didn’t think someone like Natasha Romanoff could get nervous. “Orange.”
“Got it.” Opening the fridge, Natasha pours orange juice to Y/N’s and her own glass, leaving the jug to the table afterwards. She sits down to her own chair. “I hope you like waffles. I didn’t think to ask yesterday what you’d like for breakfast.”
“I like them.”
“Good.”
They start eating in silence. Y/N takes small pieces at a time, keeping her eyes on the food, while Natasha keeps glancing at her direction. She analyses her face every time, looking for any sign of uncomfortableness or dislike, but she doesn’t see any. Although, Natasha isn’t surprised, Widows are good at keeping their emotions in check.
“You and Yelena have been freeing the other Widows?”
“Yes.”
“It’s going well?”
“Mhm.” Y/N nods, chewing on her food.
Natasha taps the fork with her finger. She isn’t sure how to keep the conversation going with the teenager, or how to overall get more than one word answers.
“What will you do after all the Widows have been freed?”
Y/N shrugs, moving pieces of the waffle around with her fork. “I don’t know. I don’t really know what I’m good at besides killing.”
“That’s what I thought too, but I figured it out. So will you.” Natasha offers her a gentle smile.
“Don’t you still do it?”
“Huh?”
“Killing. Don’t you still kill people? You’re just on the other side now.” Y/N stares at Natasha who struggles to provide an answer. “You would’ve been killed if you weren’t recruited to Shield, yes? So I either have to become an Avenger or a mercenary. And I’m not becoming an Avenger, so I’ll be a paid killer until someone kills me.”
“Well- no.” Natasha looks at Y/N, who has very monotone look on her face. She doesn’t understand how Yelena makes it look so easy. She interacts with Y/N with ease and makes her feel better with just few words.
“It’s okay. I’m just trying to be realistic.”
“Right.” Natasha pushes the empty plate to the side. “Listen, I’m not good at this.” She gestures between the two of them. “Teenagers aren’t my forte, and you aren’t even a normal teenager. Yelena somehow makes it look so easy.” She chuckles. “But I really do want to get close to you, okay?”
Y/N nods, she looks down to hide a small smile. “It’s not easy.”
“Hm?”
“With Yelena.” Y/N turns to look at Natasha. “It’s not easy with her. We fight a lot and disagree on many things. We’re somehow exactly the same and complete opposites, so everything is just a…shit show.”
“Language.” Natasha mumbles with a smirk. Y/N scoffs, smiling at herself. “Yelena can be headstrong and idiotic at times, but she is great.”
“She is.” Y/N frowns. “I don’t think I could do anything without her. She’s the reason I’m sane.”
Standing up, Natasha walks over to Y/N’s side and hugs her. “I know she couldn’t be without you either. And you’ll see her soon. Until then,” Natasha pushes her to arms length, holding onto her shoulders, “we’ll have fun, okay?”
“Okay.” Y/N giggles
“I told you I’d take you to the next mission.” Yelena whispers as she, Y/N and Sonya, a third Widow sneak around the huge house. Y/N only shushes her, making Yelena shush her back in annoyance.
They all freeze when the target, Ana, another Widow, steps in front of them. Yelena and her start fighting, while Y/N fishes out a vial of the antidote. “Yelena!” She shouts, throwing the vial towards her.
Yelena grabs it and releases it in front of the woman’s face. “The next bit is going to be really scary, but we are here to help you.”
The woman scrambles up from under Yelena. She stares at the big red spot on her carpet. “Look what you did to my rug. 20 000 dollars down the drain, thanks.” Y/N frowns, she sure didn’t think that’d be the first thing on her mind after being freed from mind control.
“Excuse me?” Yelena looks just as confused.
“I don’t think she was brainwashed.” Sonya chimes in.
“What, you thought I was some rich pervert’s prisoner?” She stares at all three of them.
“Well, yeah, kind of.”
“Wait, this is your house? How can you afford all of this?”
“By doing the thing we’re all best at. Killing for money.”
Y/N sighs at the sentence. No matter how hard she tries to get away from it, everything just keeps reminding her of the purpose she was made to do. Kill people.
The four of them go to sit in the living room and talk in a more civilized manner. Y/N keeps mostly to herself while the three adults talk about the freed Widows.
“Yelena, how is your other sister doing?”
“She’s doing okay.” Yelena smiles lightly.
“Good.”
“Yeah, she’s good.”
“And then, you and Natasha will be reunited and go live your Sex and the City fantasy in New York.” Sonya giggles, missing the solemn look on Y/N’s face. She and Yelena always did want to go to New York, but it doesn’t look like she’s involved in the plan.
Yelena hums. “Excuse me.” She stands up and walks away from the trio.
Y/N sighs, sinking to the chair. She looks around the apartment. It would be very luxurious to live in a place like this, but she doesn’t want to kill people anymore. There has to be something else she’s good at.
Ana turns on the television to pass time. The sound of it is all smushed to Y/N as she thinks about her future. “I’m gonna go see what’s taking Yelena so long.” She mumbles, standing up and walking towards the bathroom Yelena went into. She knocks on the door and waits. Nothing. “Yelena?” Knocking again, louder than before, she starts to feel worry bubble in her stomach. “I’m coming in.”
Y/N opens the door, but the room is empty. With a frown, she starts looking inside the rooms close by. They’re all empty. Starting to get panicky, Y/N goes back to the living room.
“I can’t find Yelena.”
“Y/N.” Sonya has a horrified look on her face as she turns to look at her, but Y/N pays no mind.
“Are there any other rooms she could’ve went into in this giant house of yours?” Ana’s face is glued to the television. “Hello?”
“Y/N.” Sonya grabs her arm.
“What?”
Sonya turns her towards the television. “Listen.”
The News channel is on. It’s showing chaos all over the city. Cars crashing into each other, a helicopter falling down, people disappearing. “It seems like people are randomly turning into dust and disappearing. No one knows why this is happening or where the people are going. We’ll conti-“
The news anchor continues to talk, but Y/N doesn’t hear it anymore. People are disappearing. “No.” She mumbles, shaking her head. “She didn’t turn into dust, she’s here somewhere.”
“Y/N…” Sonya sets her hand on Y/N’s shoulder, but she brushes it away instantly.
“No!” Her breathing picks up as she continues to shake her head. “No. This is some cruel joke. This isn’t real. Yelena!” She shouts, starting to walk towards a hallway, but Sonya stops here.
“She isn’t here.”
“No!” She tries to pull away, but Sonya wraps her arms around Y/N. “Let go of me!” She starts wriggling around, but the older Widow doesn’t let go.
“Let it out. Let it out.”
“Stop it! She can’t be gone.” Y/N sobs, slowly losing her fight. “She can’t be gone.” She drops to her knees, crying, while Sonya continues holding her.
The phones have been ringing for a half an hour already, but Y/N has no energy to pick it up. She just stares at Yelena’s bed. It’s empty. It shouldn’t be empty. Her eyes have already dried, she doesn’t think she could physically cry anymore.
Yelena’s phone rings. She didn’t have it with her on the mission. She doesn’t dare to pick it up. Yelena always said: ”Keep your hands off of it! You have your own phone.”. The phone stops ringing.
After a minute, Y/N’s own phone starts ringing. Finally she answers it. “What?” Her voice cracks from all the crying and screaming she did earlier. She doesn’t even remember how she got to the house, all she knows she was sobbing her heart out.
“Why the hell haven’t you and Yelena been answering your phones?” Natasha’s loud and angry voice comes through the speaker. Y/N knows she’s only worried. “You can’t do that! I was so fucking scared.” She hears Natasha take a deep breath. “Are you two okay? Can I talk to Yelena?”
“Yelena isn’t here.”
There’s a long silence on the other side of the phone. It almost sounds like Natasha hung up, but the occasional shaky breath lets Y/N knows she’s still there. “Where is she?”
“She’s not here.” Y/N repeats.
“You already said that.” Her voice gets louder again. “Where is she?”
“Not here.”
“Y/N!”
Y/N’s hold of the phone tightens momentarily. “I don’t know. I guess she’s with the other half of the world.”
“No… No, no, she can’t.” Natasha mumbles. She sounds worried. There’s a pause. Y/N can hear her pacing. “Where are you?”
“At our house.”
“Okay.” Natasha clears her throat. “Okay, you should come to the compound. Yelena wouldn’t want you to live alone. We’ll fix this, I promise.”
“Okay.”
For a moment, Y/N actually believes her.
The first year of the blip, Y/N stays in the Avengers compound. She finally meets the rest of the team, or the ones that are left. She doesn’t like them. Why do they get to be here but Yelena doesn’t. It’s not fair. Yelena should be here. She’s glad most of them have already left. Y/N doesn’t think she could have spent longer with them. They’re pathetic.
For the first few months she didn’t speak any more than she had to. She stayed in the guest room assigned to her and ignored everyone. When someone talked to her, she’d mostly nod and hum. Although, sometimes she couldn’t even do that. She’d just stare into the abyss.
Then she started to get angry. When Natasha tried to talk to her, Y/N would shut her off completely. Yelling, slamming doors, throwing things, anything to shut her up. It didn’t work, at first, Natasha would keep coming back. She made a promise to Yelena after all, she’d keep Y/N safe. But after a while, she stopped trying as much.
Y/N started to resent everyone and everything. She hated the feeling of uselessness. The survivors. The ones who started to forget and move on. The Avengers. Natasha. Yelena.
There’s a knock on her door. Y/N puts down her phone. She’s been on it a lot these days. She goes to open the door. “What?”
Natasha holds a plate of food on her hand. “You haven’t come out of your room for days. You have to eat something.”
“I’m not hungry.” Y/N starts closing the door, but Natasha stick her foot in between.
“I don’t care. You’ll eat.” Natasha welcomes herself in the room. It’s tidy. It’s always been tidy. Y/N is still accustomed to order and organization. It’s also empty. Y/N never wanted to get anything extra to her room. Because this isn’t her home. Her home is where Yelena is. “It’s just scraps from yesterday. I can’t cook, you know that, and Steve isn’t here today.”
“Right.”
Natasha gives the plate to Y/N, sitting next to her. “How are you?”
“Perfect, obviously.” She holds onto the plate, but doesn’t eat.
“Y/N.” Natasha sighs. She rubs her forehead. “I know this is difficult to you, I understand. But y-“
“No!” Y/N pushes the plate back to Natasha as she stands up. “You don’t know. You don’t understand!” She laughs, her eyes wide. She’s hollow. There’s nothing in her voice or eyes. “You have your second family or whatever you call them. All I had was Yelena. She was my family!”
Natasha sets the plate down to a side table, grabbing Y/N’s hands. “I know. And I promise you that we will get her back.”
“Don’t you dare promise me things you don’t even believe in.” Her words come out like a bite. Sharp. Cold. Rough.
“I do believe we can get everyo-“
Y/N pulls herself away from Natasha. “Oh shut up! We both know you can’t do anything alone. And everyone else has already given up.”
Both of them turn quiet. They stare at each other. Y/N’s chest is rising up and down as she breathes heavily.
“I want to leave.”
“You know where the door is.” Natasha mumbles.
Y/N clenches her jaw. It hurt. She knows she’ll regret leaving, so does Natasha letting her leave, but both of their judgments are clouded by emotions.
Y/N packs the few things she has and strides out the door, bumping into Natasha on the way. Natasha spends the night in Y/N’s room, crying.
The next four years go by rather quickly. Y/N doesn’t let herself have any free time to think or feel. She just works and then works some more. She was grateful to have a lot of work. People became angry and violent during the blip. They wanted other people dead. And Y/N was there to grant their wish. It also paid well.
Still, Y/N never moved out of her and Yelena’s old apartment. She never even changed anything in it. She wanted to keep Yelena’s side clean and pristine for her return. If she ever does return.
She cleans her knives from the blood that’s coating them. She always has preferred them over guns, even though the gun collection she has is big. The only sound in the house is coming from the television. The News channel is on.
Y/N throws a clean knife to her bag and picks up the next one. She stares at it. It’s Yelena’s. It has blood on it. It doesn’t feel right. Taking a wet cloth, she starts scrubbing it furiously, gritting her teeth together while doing it.
“Shit!” She drops the knife. Her palm is bleeding. “Motherfucker.” Mumbling, she goes to pick up the first aid kit.
While she bandages her hand, her attention turns to the television. The news anchor is speaking quite frantically.
Y/N ups the volume. ”We’ve just gotten new information from the fight against Thanos. Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff are confirmed dead.” Her whole body freezes. “But their sacrifice has brought back the half we lost during blip. Thank you for your heroism Ave-*
Y/N screams, throwing a knife straight to the television screen. Her breathing picks up quickly. She has to kneel down so she wouldn’t fall down. One of her hands is on the door while the other is pressing against her chest.
Natasha is dead. They’re back. Natasha is dead. They’re back.
The words circle through her brain. She starts feeling sick. Natasha tried calling her few times. Y/N didn’t answer. Then she texted how they’ll save Yelena. Y/N didn’t answer that one either. She didn’t believe her.
Running to the bathroom, Y/N kneels in front of the toiler just in time before vomiting. She coughs. It feels impossible to breathe. There isn’t enough air. The walls are closing in.
There’s a harsh knock on the door.
Y/N freezes. The knocking doesn’t stop. She flushes the toilet and washes her mouth with water. It’s all going in slow motion for her. The walk to the front door feels so long. A shaky breath leaves her mouth when her hand touches the handle.
She opens the door.
“No.” Her voice is quiet, but she sounds and looks just the same as five years ago. Y/N on the other hand, she almost looks unrecognizable to her. Of course she’d always recognize her little sister no matter what. But she’s so…adult like. “You didn’t disappear.”
Y/N shakes her head. She isn’t sure if her voice even works.
“You were alone, for five years.”
“I was.” She croaks out.
“You are an adult now.”
“I am.”
Yelena pulls her into a bone crushing hug. Y/N can’t do it back, so she just stands there. After a while Yelena pulls back to properly look at her. Her hand traces through every feature. Y/N’s face is rougher now, there’s a ragged scar near her left eye. It hasn’t healed properly. Yelena’s thumb caresses it. All that’s running through her mind is how she wasn’t there to protect her.
“You still owe me that ten dollars.” Y/N whispers.
“What?” Yelena’s gaze turns from the scar to her eyes. She instantly frowns. They look so cold compared to when she was a kid.
“You owe me ten dollars, from the mission. I told you it’d turn to shit.”
“Language.”
“You can’t say that to me anymore.”
“Yes I can.” Yelena laughs. It’s airy and sad. “I’m still your big sister.”
The words make Y/N frown. Yelena doesn’t have a big sister anymore. “Natasha is dead.”
“I know.”
“She saved you.”
“I know.”
“I didn’t believe her.” She whispers. “She promised to bring you back, but I didn’t believe her.”
“It’s okay. She knows you didn’t mean it in a bad way.”
Y/N scoffs, walking further in the house. Yelena follows her after closing the front door. Her brows scrunch when she notices the broken television, knives and bloodied papers near the aid kit. Only now she realizes Y/N’s hand is bandaged.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“This is not nothing.”
“Just leave it, Yelena.” She snaps. Y/N groans, rubbing her head. She doesn’t want to get angry at Yelena, especially not right now. She just got back. “Nothing happened.” She rips the knife out of her television. It definitely won’t work anymore.
Yelena sighs, deciding to change the subject. “What have you done during the five years?”
“I was at the Avengers compound for the first year, then I left.”
“And then?”
“You don’t want to know.” Yelena raises a brow. Y/N groans, rolling her eyes. “I…killed people, for money.”
Yelena purses her lips together. She’s mad, obviously. She didn’t want Y/N to live this kind of life, but at the same time, she would’ve done the same. “Okay. Who do you work for?”
“Different people. Whoever needs me.”
Humming, Yelena looks around the apartment. It looks exactly the same. It’s comforting to see that at least something is the same. “Does your current boss need another employee?”
Y/N slams the car door closed, watching as Fanny runs right past her. She walks behind Yelena. The whole car ride there was quiet, Y/N didn’t know what to say, if she even should say anything. She doubts there’s anything that’d help the grief Yelena is feeling. And she’s mourning too, though at times she wonders if she’s allowed to. Anytime those feelings come, though, Yelena seems to be there to remind it’s okay for her to be sad.
Yelena cleans up the grave, while Y/N kneels in front of it. She isn’t sure if her legs would hold her.
Natasha Romanoff
Daughter Sister Avenger
Yelena presses her head against the side of the grave. Whistling to it and then pausing, hoping that maybe, just maybe, someone would answer.
She stands and helps Y/N up as well. They stare at the gravestone in silence, until the sound of blowing a nose disturbs them. Turning to look at the person, they see Valentina.
“Wow, sorry.” She sniffles. “I’m allergic to the Midwest. What this woman did, honestly, I can’t even imagine.”
“You’re not supposed to be bothering us on out holiday time, Valentina.” Yelena comments, refusing to look at her.
“Oh, bothering you? Oh, no, no. I’m just here paying my respects.”
Yelena hums, not believing a word that comes out of her mouth. “You know, coming here makes you look desperate.” They laugh, but Yelena turns serious very quickly. “We want a raise.”
“Oh, yeah. You and me both. Believe me, you’re gonna earn it.” Valentina takes out a tablet. “I’ve got your next target. Thought I’d hand-deliver it. Maybe you two would like a shot at the man responsible for your sister’s death.” Yelena takes the tablet, showing it to Y/N as well. “Kind of a cutie, don’t you think?”
Y/N stares at the picture. Clint Barton, an Avenger, the one Natasha was stuck in Budapest with. She turns to look at Yelena, who has mostly a emotionless look on her face, but she can see the fury deep within.
Here they go again.
Y/N stares at her phone while Yelena is changing out of the uncomfortable suit. They’re in New York, staying in a fancy apartment Yelena got for them. She has always been the one who thrives in fashion.
’We have a plan, Y/N. We’ll save Yelena and everyone else. You don’t have to be alone anymore. Just like I promised.’
It’s the last text Natasha sent to her. The one she didn’t answer to. Natasha died thinking she’s still mad at her, when truthfully, she never was. Y/N shouldn’t have left. Maybe Natasha would be still alive if she stayed.
“Aren’t you going to change out of that?” Yelena stares at Y/N.
Glancing down at her own suit, Y/N shrugs. She doesn’t have the energy to move. Her side hurts. She’s pretty sure the other woman sliced her with a knife, but Yelena never noticed, so Y/N will keep quiet about. She’d worry too much.
“Are you hurt?”
“No.” She sighs. “Just tired.”
Yelena hums. “I think I lost my mask in there.” Clint pulled it off in the middle of the fight. It never looked practical to Y/N.
“Do you want to go get it?”
“No, I’ll get a new one.” Yelena keeps staring at Y/N, whose eyes are still glued to her phone. She’s reading the text over and over again, as if magically Natasha would text her again and she could apologize. “I think we should visit Kate Bishop later.”
“Okay.”
“You’ve been very distant recently.”
Y/N puts down her phone to look at Yelena. “I don’t know what you mean.” She presses her hand against the wound to slow down the bleeding, hiding the grimaces of pain.
“You don’t talk, you don’t want to do anything but work.” Yelena walks closer. “I’m worried.”
”There’s no need to worry.” Y/N mumbles. She sighs, combing her hand through her hair. Standing up, she starts organizing the things around their apartment. She wanted to keep everything neat and Yelena is more messy than her. It was also way to escape her thoughts.
“You’ve changed.” Yelena states. Her voice is full of worry, but she tries not to show it too much.
“You don’t get it, Yelena.” Y/N’s voice is desperate as she moves her hands around. “Of course I’m different. It’s been five fucking years!”
“Language, please.”
“Stop acting like you’re still my overprotective older sister. I don’t need that anymore.” She starts pacing around her spot, rubbing her forehead. Her head is starting to get cloudy. She can’t get her thoughts straight.
“You don’t just magically stop needing your big sister!” Yelena frowns. “Which is why I’ll al-“
Y/N throws an empty glass to the wall. “Oh shut up!” Yelena doesn’t flinch from the burst of anger.
“Throwing things isn’t going to solve anything.” Yelena takes a few steps forward. She can see the struggle in Y/N’s eyes. “You talk to me when you feel angry. You tell me what’s going on in your mind. You come to me. Because you still need me.” She grabs Y/N’s hands, tightening her hold when she stats pulling away.
Y/N grunts, getting increasingly frustrated by Yelena, who pulls her even closer and closer. “Stop.” She mumbles.
Yelena wraps her arms fully around Y/N, locking her arms under them. Slowly, Y/N starts breaking down. Her tears fill with tears and they fall down her cheeks. Yelena shushes her as she starts sobbing, whispering sweet nothing into her ear. “We’re going to be okay.” She lifts up her hand when she feels something wet. Blood. “Lets get this cleaned up.”
Kate is sitting right in front of them. Yelena is talking with her while eating mac and cheese. Most of the conversation has gone past Y/N, she doesn’t have any energy to listen.
Her head is still a mess, somehow she can’t clear it as well as before. Maybe it has something to do with Yelena being back, or Natasha dying, Y/N doesn’t know.
Kate’s eyes keep glancing at her. She isn’t sure if it’s because of how quiet she is being or how roughly she fought at the rooftop. Her fighting style has changed, though it still involves knives and combat, but she’s more brutal, more calculating. It has helped her a lot at being a mercenary. She learned to detach her feelings from the job, which just made her better.
“No. Our sister saved the world. Natasha Romanoff, she saved the world.” The sentence brings Y/N back down to Earth.
Sister. She isn’t sure if she even knows what the word means anymore.
“You’re really Natasha’s sisters?”
“Yes.”
“No.” Y/N mumbles, speaking for the first time since they arrived to Kate’s old apartment.
Both Kate and Yelena turn to look at her, the latter having a questioning look on her face. “What?”
“She’s not my sister.” Her voice is quiet and her eyes are stuck on the table. “She’s not.” Standing up, Y/N leaves the apartment alone.
Yelena doesn’t come of call after her, she isn’t done with Kate Bishop yet. She also knows she wouldn’t get anything out of Y/N when she’s being so distant.
Y/N walks through the streets of New York until she’s far away from people. After a few seconds of utter silence, she lets out a loud, bloodcurdling scream. She screams until she doesn’t have any air left. Holding onto her stomach, she takes deep breaths.
She couldn’t call Natasha her sister with good conscience anymore. Not after what she did, or didn’t do. It’s her fault she died. Maybe if she stayed at the compound she could’ve taken her place. She didn’t deserve to die. She had people who needed her, like Yelena.
“She’s dead.” She mumbles, closing her eyes. “She’s dead and I killed her.” Blowing air out of her mouth, she relaxes. It helps her, in some sick sense. She’ll spend a lot of time saying things out loud, to remind her what’s real. It clears her head, because sometimes things get mixed up.
After spending three more hours on the one spot, Y/N finally starts walking again. She’s going slowly, staring at her surroundings. She hasn’t really spent any free time exploring the city like Yelena. Not that she had any free time. When Yelena went to see the tourist spots, Y/N did side jobs. She hasn’t told Yelena about it.
The lights are beautiful during the night. She looks up at the buildings. The mist from her breath comes to her field of vision every time she breathes out.
She stops in the middle of an empty street, taking in the cold. She always hated it after the Red Room, but now she misses it. The slight pain from being out in the cold for too long feels like an embrace.
With one last deep breath of the fresh air, she starts walking towards the apartment her and Yelena are staying at. She doesn’t say anything when she comes in, neither does Yelena. She’s grateful for that. At times Y/N hopes Yelena has given up on her like Natasha did. That she’d let her walk out of the door without stopping her, and her every action brings her closer to it.
Yelena and Y/N split right away as they enter the huge Christmas party. They’re looking for Clint, both of them wanting to get the mission over, especially Y/N. It’s too close to Natasha.
Y/N rolls her eyes when the sniper starts shooting. Of course nothing ever goes their way. She follows Yelena to go after Clint, but they lose him momentarily in the midst of chaos and darkness. However, they find a hallway leading to the elevators Clint is in.
As they wait for one, Kate walks up to them. “So, I know you’re chummy with my mom, but I gotta say, I didn’t think you’d make the cut for the Christmas party.”
“Kate Bishop.” Yelena smiles, making Y/N rolls her eyes. She gets too sidetracked in her opinion. “We’re not here to ruin anything. We’re just going to kill Barton, have some appetizers, and then we’ll go.”
“I hope you enjoy the bruschetta, ‘cause it looks like you already lost him.”
“He’s in the elevator.”
“Yeah, what, out of 65 floors, you think you’re just gonna magically guess which one he’s on?”
One of the elevators dings. “Twelfth floor.”
“Damn it.” Kate mumbles.
“Can you two shut up.” Y/N grumbles, staring at the other elevator’s numbers to will them to go faster.
Yelena shakes her head with a sigh before grinning at Kate. “She’s a bit grumpy.” The elevator opens. “Enjoy the party.” The two assassins get in, Yelena stopping Kate from entering. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work as she slips in right before the door closes.
The three of them stand there in silence. At least for a while. Kate decides to disturb it by trying to push all the elevator buttons, multiple times, which Yelena stops every time. Until the third time when Kate slaps her. Y/N actually snorts at it.
As the elevator door opens at the next floor, Y/N and Yelena run out of it, the latter cursing Kate and throwing her jacket at her. Kate runs right after them.
She catches up to them in the middle of some offices. They fight, though not with their full strength. Y/N isn’t opposed to leaving casualties behind, but right now she just wants to get past her.
Kate blocks the doorway forward. “What are we doin’?” She smiles widely. “I mean, it’s Christmas Eve. Let’s grab a drink, huh?”
Yelena nods. “Okay. Yeah. Sure. After we kill Barton.”
“No. No, that’s not what- Come on. You don’t need to-“
Y/N huffs, getting tired to the stalling. “Get out of my way.” She slams herself against Kate, making her fly out of her position. She holds a foot over her chest. “And stay out of it.” Irritated, she jogs away from Kate, who gets up quickly to continue fighting with Yelena.
They finally get to the window, but right when Yelena is about to use her baton, Kate throws an object straight to her hand. “Ow! That really hurts!” Yelena throws her hands around, grimacing in pain.
“Yeah. Yeah, well so did the kick in the ribs.”
“Oh, yeah. That was a good one. That was good form.” Y/N rolls her eyes at the conversation going on. “But you did the really cool body throw.” Yelena motions the throw with her hands.
“Yeah, thank you. Thank you.” Kate purses her lips. “Stop making me like you.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t help it.”
“Oh my god.” Y/N groans, throwing out the wire and jumping out of the window.
Yelena stares at the now empty window. “She’s not one to make friends.” She shrugs at Kate. “That was really fun. Bye.” Jumping out of the window, she takes out her gun and starts shooting at Clint with Y/N. Unfortunately for them, they miss their shots. On the ground, they run to hiding.
They attack Clint again on the ice, Yelena body throwing him to the ground. Clint lays on the ground as Y/N and Yelena stand near him. “Before I kill you, I need to ask you one question.”
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Yelena and Y/N.”
“I need to know what happened.”
Clint sits up, taking ragged breaths. “Look, Yelena, if I told you what really happened, you’d never believe me. But what you need to know is your sister sacrificed herself, and she saved the world. I’m sorry.” He glances at Y/N, who is intensely staring him down.
Shaking her head, Yelena frowns. “You’re lying. You’re pathetic. You’re so pathetic.” She kicks him down and starts fighting him.
Clint holds Yelena on her place. “Nobody killed her. She made a choice.”
Y/N’s body freezes as she stares at the fighting going on. She knows Clint is lying. She’s the reason Natasha is dead, whether he knows it or not. It’s her fault.
“You’re not listening to me. She sacrificed herself, understand?” Clint holds Yelena on a chokehold, while Yelena looks like she’s about to cry. “I couldn’t stop her.”
Y/N just stares at the fight. Her eyes are glasses over. It’s like she can’t move. Like she’s in the middle of a nightmare that she can’t wake up from. She supposes it is in a way. Just the other way around. Sleep is her escape, but she can’t sleep forever. She has to live day after day in her forever nightmare.
The fight flashes before her eyes. Suddenly Yelena has Clint overpowered. “You should’ve fought harder.” Yelena takes out her baton, nearing Clint as she starts beating him until he can barely hold himself up.
That’s when Yelena drops the baton and takes out her gun, aiming at him. Clint whistles. It makes goosebumps appear on Y/N’s skin, and Yelena stops moving.
“How do you know that?”
“Your secret whistle with Nat. She talked about you all the time, Yelena. She told me about how you got separated as kids. She was flying that plane.” Y/N knows the story. It’s one of the first memories Yelena told her about Natasha. “I asked her if she was scared. All she could think about is that you were safe. That never changed, Yelena. She loved you. And always wanted you safe. Both of you.” He turns to look at Y/N.
“No.” She mumbles.
Natasha told Clint all about Y/N. How the first year of the blip they were together and how regretful Natasha felt after letting her leave. “She was never mad at you.”
“Stop it.”
“She forgave you right away.” Every word he speaks, the more Y/N hurts. “All she wanted was to have you back with her, so she could keep you safe. Like she had promised Yelena.”
Y/N shakes her head. All the thoughts in her head are getting too much.
“She loved you.”
“No!” The change happens in a split second. She takes out two knives, starting to fight Clint who can barely dodge her. Her moves are rough and all over the place. She isn’t calculating all of her moves like usually, now it’s pure emotion and brute force. “She’s dead!” Her yell echoes through the area. Clint is getting littered with cuts while Yelena stands on her place, too stunned to move. “She’s dead! And it’s…it’s-“
Clint gets holds of Y/N’s hands, holding them tightly so she couldn’t move them. She fights against him, but eventually drops down to her knees.
“It’s my fault.” She whispers. ”I killed her.” Dropping the knives from her hands, she stops fighting. Yelena frowns from the sidelines, she didn’t know Y/N thought like that. ”I never answered her. I could’ve stopped her, I could’ve helped.” She mutters.
“You couldn’t have. She made her decision.”
Y/N glares at him, ripping her arms off of Clint’s grip. She stands up and walks away, pulling away from Yelena’s touch as she walks past her.
She continues walking until her legs physically can’t carry her anymore. There’s a small bridge right in front of her, so she goes to sit down on the railing. No one is going through it, giving Y/N a chance to be alone. Her nails are digging deep into her palms and her teeth are clenched together, causing a constant headache.
“It wasn’t your fault.” Yelena’s voice breaks the quiet atmosphere. “Natasha’s death wasn’t your fault.” She says it again to make sure Y/N hears her.
“I didn’t answer her.”
“What do you mean?”
“She tried to call me and sent me a text before she died, saying she’d bring you back. I didn’t answer. I was angry at her.”
Yelena leans against the railing while staring at Y/N. “It’s still not your fault.” She sets her hand on Y/N’s back. “I should’ve been there for you, raising and protecting you. You shouldn’t have been alone.” Yelena huffs, frustrated at the whole situation. “I should’ve protected you.”
“Well you didn’t, did you?” Y/N turns around, dropping down from the railing to stand in front of Yelena. “You weren’t there to keep me safe or comfort me, and that’s shitty, but you can’t do anything to change it. So, just stop it.”
Yelena purses her lips together. She knows Y/N is right. In a way, they can probably never get back to the way they were. Y/N is an adult now. She was all alone for years and that changed her for the rest of her life.
“I don’t need a protector anymore. I don’t need you anymore.”
Swallowing, Yelena frowns. The words hurt to hear. Because she still needs Y/N. “Family never stops needing each other.”
“This family broke a long time ago.” Y/N whispers. “I know it was only few seconds to you, but to me it was five years. And during those years I grew up, it’s time for me to move on. You should do the same.”
“No. I don’t want to.” Yelena shakes her head, stepping closer to Y/N. “I’m not leaving you alone again.”
“You aren’t leaving me, Yelena. I’m walking away.” Y/N clears her throat so her sound wouldn’t waver so much. “Thanks for giving me a family, even if it was only for a short while.” She nods and turns around.
“No, Y/N.” Yelena’s eyes turn glassy as she stares at Y/N’s back. “I forbid you from walking away from me!”
“You can’t do that anymore.” Y/N shouts out with a sad smile, not stopping, not looking back.
Yelena keeps standing on her place, just watching as Y/N moves further and further away. She doesn’t follow her.
She can’t do that anymore.

01. sanrio band-aids chapter one to the secrecy of our confessions [masterlist]
synopsis: heading to the nurse's office to, hopefully, tend to your drumming blisters, you end up meeting the student council president who you have an infatuation for and is secretly your fanboy.
"i can't believe you got into another fight with that heizou guy," childe said, eyeing scaramouche down as they walked to the nurse's office. signora scoffed, "you keep starting it in the first place, too." scaramouche snapped at them, "i take out my rage on him as a coping mechanism. my damn mom's introducing me to her new girlfriend tomorrow, or did you forget?"
childe gasped loudly, "another one? just how many bitches does your mom pull?" he snickered shortly after and his friend rolled his eyes in response to his ridiculous comment. signora sighed, "well, i have better things to do than walking this angry, purple chihuahua to the office, i'll be taking my leave now." she smiled and turned on her heel, bound to walking the opposite direction.
scaramouche's gaze followed her figure, "fucking hate her." he grumbled before continuing to walk. childe ran after him, much too distracted by a cat outside the window to realize scaramouche already left him, "hey, wait up!"
"(y/n)! i need help!" hu tao called, waving her hand to disrupt you from packing up from band practice for the day. you made your way over to her, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear and perking your head out to see what she needed. "what's the matter with your guitar, this time?" you queried teasingly, and at that, ayaka giggled.
hu tao pouted, "nothing, surprisingly. i just need to change the strings and i want you to cut it for me." she held up the wire cutters to you and you tensed up, "why me? you can ask yoimiya, she's a bass player, she'd understand better. besides, i need to go the nurse's office about these blisters, anyway." you explained with a cheeky grin, happy to have gotten yourself a valid excuse from helping hu tao with yet another one of her dilemmas.
yoimiya dramatically cried out as she fell to the floor, "way to throw me under the bus!" hu tao poked yoimiya's head with the bottom of the wire cutters, "too late, 'miya. gotta do it~" she smugly teased. yun jin helped ayaka with putting away the keyboard, "do get going, (y/n). can't leave those blisters to fester much longer." she commented and you grabbed your school-bag, "right, i'll see you tomorrow!" you waved as you exited the music room.
"oh, 'miya. cutting some strings won't hurt you." ayaka smiled at the girl who was still having a fit about it. "YES IT WILL! THOSE THINGS ARE DANGEROUS I'M TELLING YOU! AND, AND HU TAO'S LOOKING AT ME LIKE SHE'S PLANNING A MURDER!" yoimiya reasoned.
you fidgeted with the hems of your sleeves walking to the office. lately, you've been avoiding going there as much as possible due to the possibility of your parents finding out you drum. should your drumming blisters get any worse, the doctor could possibly call you parents and you're convinced that wouldn't be good for you, or 5O5.
a band you've formed with four of your childhood friends with yun jin as the leader and lead vocalist, ayaka as the keyboardist, yoimiya as the bassist and hu tao for the guitarist. of course, your parents didn't let you get a drum set when you first asked and you being completely devastated tugged at ayato's heart strings. he's like the older brother you never had, and ayaka the sister you always needed. ayato let you keep his old drum set, and that day officially marked the beginning of SOS/5O5.
five members but friends that constantly need each other.
you smile upon remembering ten-year old you leaping up to hug ayato. "take a seat, dear, someone will be with you in a minute or two." a nurse at the front counter said as you entered the office. her name tag read katheryne and you tilted your head. though, unbeknownst to you, the student council president who you have a huge infatuation for happens to be in the office as well, eyeing you.
scaramouche internally panicked. what are you doing here? did you hurt yourself? did someone else hurt you? most importantly, did you do something new with your hair? you kindly smile at her, "alright, thank you." turning around to find where to sit in the waiting area you instantly freeze up. "ah, president." you said with a wobbly voice, hoping he didn't notice. you swallow it down as it is and give him a nervous grin.
he felt the sudden need to be confident, at that. "what a surprise to see you here, doll. anything the matter?" scaramouche interrogated, a smile atop his lips that hid a most stupid, lovesick grin. he seems so intimidating when really, he just wants to brag about how he streamed your most recent album last night while studying. you bite back the urge to run away before you completely humiliate yourself in front of him.
"nothing too serious, just some drumming blisters, is all." you answered with a smiling facade, sitting next to him. you hope he doesn't notice the way you sit on the very edge. "ah, is that so? here," rummaging through his bag he hands you what seems to be a box of sanrio branded band-aids. "they're my little sister's but she wouldn't mind." scaramouche added, trying not to get a weird first impression.
for a moment, your fingers brush against his when you accept his offering. "thanks, that's really sweet of you!" you exclaimed happily, and at this point, you couldn't hide the pink that dusted your cheeks. scaramouche blinked a few times. "oh..." a dull thud resounds when his unconscious body hits the chairs and you panic, "s-scaramouche!?"
when scaramouche comes to, the first thing he sees hovering over him is a blur of (s/c) skin with (e/c) eyes and (h/c) hair, yet his vision hasn't completely evened out. "(y/n)..." then a voice completely different from (y/n)'s pipes up, "oh, brother, you wish!" standing there with a clearly upset expression was none other than his twin sister, the insufferable mona megistus.
she flipped her hair, letting it slap scaramouche's face as soon as he sat up, "just what were you thinking about this time to have a nosebleed this severe you pass out? and this poor person was the victim of it all." mona sighed and visible question marks circled your head. who is she? wearing a prim and proper white button-up with a purple tie that pairs with a violet skirt, mona inspected her nails. she's the definition of beauty.
you blushed, "oh..." mona waved her hand, motioning for you to come closer, "don't be shy, dear. i'd like to apologize for my nuisance of a brother! im ashamed to be related to him, darling, please don't mind it." scaramouche gritted his teeth, "save it, you cheap plastic doll!" mona went up to his face and pointed a very well manicured finger at him, "you shut the hell up if you know what's good for you! i'm older by two minutes!"
you panicked, "it really is no problem-" just then, another figure barged into the room, fancily striding to scaramouche's side, "o, sister and brother! where art tho-OW!" fischl yelped as scaramouche elbowed her in the torso, "are you cutting classes again, idiot?" fischl cried out, "you're so meannnn! i just wanted to check up on you!"
mona snapped at the two, "cut it out. it's embarrassing enough that we're arguing in front of scaramouche's little friend here... eh, what's your name, again, dear?" fischl glanced at you, "ouu, mouche made a friend?" scaramouche blushed madly with a piercing glare, "stop it, mona. you don't have to answer," he said, gesturing to you. you waved your hands, "no, it's fine, really! it's (y/n) (l/n)-" mona and fischl screamed at the same time.
"THE (Y/N)? THE ONE SCARAMOUCHE-" fischl was cut off once more by scaramouche jumping her to the ground. mona patted your shoulder with a cheery grin, "we'll be going now, dear! very nice to meet you, let's exchange numbers sometime!" she said while dragging the two out of the room. you blinked, idly standing in the middle of it all.

Kids | Rodrick Heffley

Rodrick Heffley becomes obsessed when he finally meets his thirty-five year old band mate, Bill Walter’s, younger sister.
Warnings: Mature themes/language. Drug use. Sexual content. Violence.
“10 Things I Hate About You”
“The Perks of Being A Disappointment”
Rodrick found that he very much liked holding hands. Especially Sara’s. He felt he looked better than ever that Monday morning, because her hand was in his.
“Ew. Look,” Heather Hills whispered, staring with her friends as they watched Rodrick and Sara coming down the hall. “The emus are dating.”
Sara just chuckled as Rodrick stood tall beside her, completely unaware. But he wouldn’t have had it any other way. His only focus was Sara, and the way her smile was something reserved mostly for him.
“Alright. I guess I gotta get to class,” Rodrick sighed, fully aware that he and Sara were already fifteen minutes late.
“Okay,” she sighed unenthusiastically, smiling as he gave her a quick peck on the lips as he leaned in the doorframe.
“Be good,” he teased.
“You first.”
“Never,” Rodrick promised, chuckling as he just stood there for a moment, admiring what was his.
“Sara, are we joining us for first period?” Mr. Emerson called in annoyance.
“In a minute, you old fart!” Rodrick yelled impatiently, peeved that someone had interrupted his state of bliss.
“Mr. Heffley, do I need to call administration?” the history teacher asked.
“No, Mr. Emerson,” Rodrick said quickly, looking back at Sara as he awkwardly scratched at his shaggy dark hair. “Go to the bathroom in ten minutes,” he mouthed.
Sara just smirked back at him as she entered the classroom, taking her seat by Lauren. Class that day went by faster than she’d anticipated, and before she knew it, Rodrick was walking her out, with his arm lazily thrown around her.
He had deemed it chivalrous to take care in walking Sara to and from all of her classes, conveniently giving him a reason to miss the first and last ten minutes or so of each of his own classes. Sara had just barely sat down in her elective psychology class before receiving a slip of paper from the office on her desk.
Sara squinted in confusion as she read it. Apparently, she had been checked out of school right at the beginning of second period by someone listed as “brother”. She didn’t question why Bill would check her out of school without telling her, so she collected her things and headed to the front office, not sure what to expect.
Sure enough, there was Bill Walter.
“Hey, Sar Bear,” her older brother smiled.
“Hey,” she nodded. “What’s up? Is everything okay?”
“More than okay,” he promised her as they walked out of the school together.
“What’s going on?”
“You’ll see,” he promised her excitedly.
Bill walked Sara down the street to where Rodrick’s van was parked, not saying a word. Sara was confused for a moment as she saw Rodrick leaning against the van, arms crossed before he hopped up.
“Hey, baby,” he said casually.
“What’s up?” Sara asked, not understanding.
“I’ll leave you two to it,” Bill smiled, walking off to where his own car was parked.
She just looked at Rodrick, waiting for an explanation.
“I got Bill to check you out of school, so I could take you on our first date,” he smiled happily, seeming satisfied with himself.
“But, we’ve been on a date,” Sara pointed out. “And we go to the mall together.”
“This is something a lot better than the mall,” Rodrick promised her, making a point of it as he put on a dark pair of Ray Bans. “We’re going to the boardwalk.”
“Really?” she asked, surprised by the spontaneous gesture. “You’re cutting school? Again?”
“Yeah,” he scoffed nonchalantly, “I blocked the school on my mom’s phone. She’ll never know anyway.”
“Okay,” Sara grinned, throwing her arms around him as he smiled down at her. “So I have you for the whole day?”
“Definitely,” he said in a low tone, hands situated on her hips. “I’m all yours, beautiful,” he said in a cocky manner.
“Good,” she mumbled, kissing him on the lips.
He held her in arms as tightly as he could, making sure to wrap his arms all the way around her in a way that always made her feel safe.
“Hop in, sweetheart,” Rodrick teased her. “I’ll let you pick the music.”
Rodrick drove off as Sara sat blissfully in the front seat next to him, flipping through CD’s for a few minutes.
“Limp Bizkit?” she asked, holding up one of his CD’s.
“Whatever you want, princess. Today’s about you,” he responded affectionately as she popped it in.
The drive to Oceanside Pier would take about an hour, but Sara almost wished it would take longer just so she could sit in the passenger seat while Rodrick drove and talked to her. She felt like his world was centered around her whenever he would find special places to take her.
“You look really good sitting there like that, you know that?” Rodrick said a he watched her.
Her fair skin glowed golden like moonlight with the way sunlight poured in through the window.
“I think you forget how handsome you are,” she pointed out with a raised eyebrow.
She loved his shaggy hair and crooked smile like nothing else. Rodrick Heffley didn’t completely show it, but her words had an impact on him he couldn’t find the words to fully describe.
“You know, you have more personality than anybody I know. And it even shows on your face, and the way you look,” he stared in amazement. “Everything about you is just perfect. Just right,” he thought.
Sara thought for a moment, finding the compliment had a certain novelty to it. Her nose wrinkled in surprise as she tried to place her reaction.
“I always thought there was a lot wrong with my face,” she said softly.
This fact seemed appalling to Rodrick.
“What idiot made you think that?” he demanded.
“I don’t know. I just kind of accepted it as a fact. My teeth are kind of fucked. My eyes are hooded and uneven, and they have bags underneath. And my eyes are kind of droopy and dead,” she thought, seeming physically overwhelmed by the details as she spoke, as if not quite understanding.
“I think your eyes are one of the best things about you,” he said honestly. “And your smile’s the cutest thing ever.”
“Well. I think you feel about me the way I feel about you,” she stated.
“I hope so,” Rodrick expressed. “Because… I want you to be my girlfriend,” he concluded.
“You do?” Sara looked up at him.
“I do,” he nodded, completely serious. “Do you want that too?”
“Yes, I do,” she said without a second thought. “I think that would be perfect.”
He smiled at her, genuinely content with the world. When Rodrick and Sara frolicked around on the beach, after having bought swimsuits on the pier, he saw the whole world in her eyes. They were just brown, but to him, they reflected so much more.
In her eyes, he saw the same darkness he had in his own heart, and the same golden light he imagined pouring into his home through the windows ten years from then. Rodrick had never given growing up much thought, mostly because he thought he never wanted to do it.
But as he ran along the beach with Sara, and carried her in his arms in the water, he so badly wanted to fast forward and see if this, the lunacy of this dream, stood the test of time.
“Nobody has a voice like you,” Sara Walter said softly, as Rodrick heard their second joint in her voice.
They were sitting on a towel close to the water, but the few people who’d been somewhat close to them had cleared out because of the aromatic smoke. Rodrick chuckled lightly as he hit the joint with his sunglasses on, charmed by the sight of his girlfriend in her matching two-piece black and pink bikini.
“You think I could really sing if I wanted to?” Rodrick asked her.
The truth was, he heavily valued her opinion more than anyone else’s.
“Not necessarily sing. Scream, maybe,” she reasoned. “I think you have a voice that really rocks. You just have to find your style.”
“I think I want you onstage with me,” he expressed, passing the joint to her. “Like, background vocals, or something. I think someone like you could really take the band to a whole ‘nother level. Like, Amy Lee, or Lacey Sturm.”
“Please don’t compare me to Lacey Sturm,” Sara grimaced, taking a deep hit off the joint, “I don’t wanna fuck Jesus.”
“I have sandals on right now,” Rodrick pointed out in amusement. “Would that work?”
“Very funny,” she said to him with sarcastic approval.
“Do you ever think about dying?” Rodrick asked as she smoked while processing.
“What about it?” she questioned.
“Like, how you would wanna do it?” he asked awkwardly. “Or why you would wanna do it?”
“All the time,” Sara nodded. “I used to think about it a lot… I always thought I’d just OD, or something. Die young,” she offered her sentiments.
“Really?” Rodrick asked, seeming sad despite having the conversation on the sunny beach.
“Yeah… My family has a history of suicide,” she confessed. “My mom’s grandpa committed suicide. And my grandma; my dad’s mom. And my cousin, too.”
“Your cousin?” Rodrick said softly.
“Yeah. Bryan,” she nodded. “He was like my best friend growing up.”
“You told me about him,” he thought, remembering all the different stories. “You never told me he died.”
“Yeah. Shot himself a few years back,” Sara remembered. “He was seventeen.”
“I’m sorry,” Rodrick offered. “That… really, really sucks.”
“It does,” she agreed. “I didn’t understand it. I always thought, out of the two of us, it would’ve been me. He only smoked a little weed. I was the one who did all the drugs, even then… I wanted to go out like him. Young, and smarter than everybody. I wanted to go out on my own terms.”
“I think I know what you mean,” Rodrick thought. “I don’t…” he paused for a moment, seeming genuinely perturbed.
Sara watched him, wondering what was going on his mind.
“I don’t know what my life is for. I’m not smart, I’m not a good person. I’m not good at anything that matters.”
“Music matters,” she offered, not even able to process the inaccuracy of the other claims.
“Mine doesn’t,” Rodrick said spitefully. “I mean, my dad’s right; it’s not real music. We just bang on our instruments and scream about blood and shit, like, literal shit.”
“But that is real music,” Sara promised, sitting up in front of him. “If it means something, it’s real music. You think music has to be serious all the time? Look at Jim Morrison. Half of the time, he had no idea what the fuck he was talking about.
“And you saw what happened when Fred Durst and Jonathan Davis got together and recorded a song. That was the least serious shit I’ve ever heard. Think about the people that made you wanna make music; did their music not make you feel something? Did it not make you feel good?”
“You’re right, you know that?” he said after a moment.
“How many times have you turned on the radio and heard a piece of industry-planted garbage that’s full of buzzwords and bullshit just to appeal to as many people as possible? ‘Baby’, ‘love’, ‘girl’, ‘party’, ‘boy’, ‘beach’. That’s the shit that doesn’t deserve to be called music.”
“You’re so smart,” Rodrick sighed, overwhelmed by his feelings for her.
“You’re really something, Rodrick. You have passion, and talent, and you really are driven when you actually put your mind to something,” Sara remarked. “Anyone who really sees who you are could tell you that.”
“But, I don’t know what I even wanna do with my life,” he confessed. “Mom and Dad both say I gotta go to college, but what the fuck am I gonna do at college? I don’t read, I can’t pass tests, and I definitely don’t know how to be an adult.”
“I think once you find something, it’ll all fall into place,” she told him.
“But what am I gonna do?” he asked. “I’m not good at anything.”
“That’s not true. No one who really knows you would let you think that,” she frowned.
“Well, what do you think I’m good at?”
“You are good with music. Specifically working out the beat and music of a song… Like the composition. And, you don’t think you are, but you’re good at finding ways to look at things so that you can understand them,” she offered. “I saw you explaining stuff to Chris during practice.”
“See, this is why I love talking to you about stuff,” Rodrick sighed. “You really get me, and you really wanna help me.”
“I hope so,” she thought, looking him in the eyes as she hoped he would see what she saw in him.
“I think my mom would really like you,” he remarked.
“I don’t know,” she sighed, exhaling a heavy puff of smoke. “I’m just different than what she wants for you.”
“She wants someone who cares about me, and is a good influence on me,” he stated confidently. “That’s you.”
That evening, a while after had Sara went off to work, and Rodrick had returned home, the Heffley family was seated around their dinner table for a family meal. Frank’s day at work and Greg’s day at school had already been discussed, and Susan was rambling on about different people they knew, before Rodrick decided he had something to share with them.
“Hey, Mom?” he said as he got himself a second helping of mashed potatoes.
“Yes, Rodrick?” Susan looked up at him, pleasantly surprised to find that he was willingly speaking up during a family gathering.
“I, uh… I have a girlfriend now,” Rodrick smiled smugly.
“Huh. That’s my boy,” Frank offered him an extremely paternal smile, for once finding a reason to be proud of his eldest son.
“What?” she finally looked up at him through her glasses, eyes widened.
“Whoa, look outside!” Greg interrupted loudly, pointing out the window. “There’s pigs flying!”
“Shut it, smart ass!”
“After you, dumb ass,” Greg muttered.
“I’m sorry, what did you say, Rodrick?” Susan asked after a moment.”
“I said, I’m a changed man. I have a girlfriend now,” Rodrick grinned, proud of the one he had ended up with.
“Oh, that’s nice, who’s the lucky girl?” his mother asked pleasantly, seeming thrilled.
“Sara,” Rodrick told her, expecting that to be obvious.
“Sara, Bill’s sister, Sara?” she asked incredulously.
“Sara?” Frank Heffley blurted out, almost sounding startled. “The blonde girl?” his eyes widened as a smile spread across his face.
He was quickly met with a sharp nudge from his wife, who seemed less than enthusiastic about the new development now.
“Yeah,” Rodrick nodded, not understanding the reaction. “I’m with Sara.”
“But, why?” Susan asked him. “She’s so…”
She failed to come up with something acceptable.
“‘So’ what?” he asked defensively, seeming upset. “Sara’s what?”
“She’s just… not who I would’ve pictured you with, is all,” she tried to soften her demeanor.
“Mom, do you even know me at all?” Rodrick demanded, seeing the disappointed frown on her face. “I’m serious. Like, do you know what I like, or how I think?”
“Of course I know you! I gave birth to you! You’re my oldest son!” she exclaimed in shock. “That’s why I don’t want you to end up with someone you’d regret being with, is all.”
“How do you even know I’d regret it? You don’t know anything about her!” he cried. “You’ve met her once.”
“And I’m not assuming anything!” Susan assured him. “I just… want you to be careful, that’s all.”
“Yeah. Your mother doesn’t mean anything by it,” Frank attempted to mediate the situation.
“Okay,” Rodrick tested her, a suspicious look on his face. “Then, can I invite her to dinner tomorrow?”
Susan nearly choked on her food.
“But, the Bensons are coming over for dinner tomorrow,” she reminded him, her face even looking pale.
“You said I could have a friend over for dinner whenever I want,” he pointed out.
“No, I said you seem to have friends over for dinner whenever you want,” she chuckled as patiently as she could, patience clearly thinning.
“Honey, Sara seems like a nice girl. Sure, she’s Bill’s sister, and she looks a little edgy, but she seems nice enough,” Frank reasoned, stepping in. “She’s polite, and she says ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. That’s more than we can say for most of the other kids he’s had over. I’m just glad he found a girl he likes that doesn’t sell pot in an alley,” he justified simply.
“I don’t know…” Susan considered skeptically.
“Come on, Mom,” Rodrick sighed. “You don’t change your mind with Greg’s friends.”
“That’s because Greg’s friends don’t come from families with more teen pregnancies and suicides than college degrees,” she mumbled.
“Susan,” Frank looked at her in shock.
“Mom!”
Everyone realized that he seemed genuinely hurt.
“I’m sorry, honey, I didn’t mean it like that,” she sighed, realizing her mistake.
“What other way is there to mean it?!” Rodrick snapped at her. “You don’t say shit like that!”
His father remained completely silent for a moment, not sure at all how to deal with the topic. Even Manny started to seem uncomfortable at the dinner table, as Greg was also surprised to find he was on his brother’s side.
“That’s dark, Mom.”
“I’m sorry, okay?” Susan gave in, “I didn’t mean it like that. I was just getting stressed out, with all this… It was a horrible thing, and I shouldn’t have said it. I take it back.”
“How did you even know that?” Rodrick questioned her, disregarding the apology.
Even he seemed to be just finding out about it.
“People talk,” she sighed, “One of the PTA moms has a sister who used to work with Bill and Sara’s mom. People talk about that family, and the things you hear aren’t exactly good. I just didn’t know if I wanted you hanging around a girl like that.”
“Why would people talk about that? It’s fucked,”Rodrick said in disgust.
“I know. And I shouldn’t encourage it,” Susan agreed.
“So, are you actually willing to give Sara a chance?”
“Yes, honey, of course,” she promised, mostly out of obligation and guilt.
“Congratulations, son,” Frank beamed, shifting the direction of the conversation, “On finally getting a girl.”
It seems that was all they really could’ve hoped for. Rodrick just smiled in more of an awkward grimace, not really feeling as good as he thought he would after their conversation.
