Alright, I know I’m late to the party, but hear me out - what about an au where, first and foremost, Prime!Georgiou didn’t die because she was awesome and deserved better, and actually got to continue to mentor Michael and continued to build a rich and beautiful friendship. Michael made a mistake, which is understandable, and was busted down in rank but not called a traitor and was able to continue under Georgiou as Captain.
Then, second of all, have it that Prime!Lorca was BFFs with Georgiou and Pike bc they all went to the academy together, and as soon as Mirror!Lorca showed up, both Georgiou and Pike went “Uh no, this isn’t Gabriel Lorca” and instead locked Mirror!Lorca up and mounted a rescue mission to the mirror verse with the Discovery and the Enterprise to save their best friend?
Like why can’t we have this healthy model of loyalty and positive human emotions to let Michael start her journey to greatness? She sees how vastly different Pike, Georgiou and Lorca are with their personalities, but how they’ve all achieved greatness in their own way and all value each other - and then she realizes that Tilly’s enthusiasm has its own illogical value and that she should broaden her horizon and risk things as well?
Don’t get me wrong, the edgy antiheroes from the mirrorverse are fun sometimes, but I’d like some positive role models and painful but gradual growth. I want Prime!Georgiou. I want her to be three dimensional and bad ass with her own motley group that she went through fire with that the rest of the Discovery gets to meet and learn from and from that find their path to greatness.
Or heck, maybe its the prequel, the Shenzhou is Georgiou’s ship, she and Pike with the Enterprise go over and rescue Prime!Lorca and after that experience, Michael learns what she needs to to trust herself and jump out of the nest. And just right out of the gate is made captain of the Discovery when it’s commissioned and put in charge of the crew and slowly becomes best friends with Tilly even though she’s a cadet because she’s learned friendship doesn’t care about rank or even dimensions. I don’t know I have a lot of thoughts about the possibilities of this that I’m sure no one cares about, but still.
Where’s this au? Can someone write this? Pretty please?

Among the many reasons I want us to see Una Chin-Riley interact with another Illyrian and have their cultural greeting/goodbye be holding each other by the elbow is because that would change the context of this:
Tumblr media
and thereby bless all the Cornwell fic writers with more canon … and the chance for Kat to pick up a partner like a sack of potatoes and carry them around.

With the genetically modified attack tribbles come questions.
A) Did starfleet forget the origin story of the humble tribble, Or did their hubris interfere and allow them to, once again, meddle with their genetic code for their own gain?? (it’s a short trek. watch it. I was howling.) Imagine a tribble infestation but the tribbles are carnivores? That’s a made for syfy movie if i ever saw one.
B) Are regular bog-standard tribbles Not round as assumed, but in fact a hedgehog like creature that curls into a ball at rest that just has fuzz instead of spines? Are tribbles Actually pancakes with mouths and strange possibly leg like apendages?
C) do regular ones have those big old teeth to chew with, or is that part of the modification???
I need like, a stat book on tribbles immediately. And frankly, there have been Far weirder Trek books published so that’s no excuse not to do it, so I think they should actually do it. Just for me.

Rebellion: Chapter 6
Read on AO3 or FFN
Status: In-Progress
Note: All characters are mirror universe.
Pairings: Pike x Una, Pike x Fem!OC (Aalin), Spock x Chapel, Sarek x Amanda, Lorca x Michael Burnham
Rating: Mature
Word Length: 1.1k
Chapter Summary: A slice of Mirror Christopher Pike's backstory.
Summary: In the Terran Universe, Christopher Pike and Enterprise are returning home in triumph after five years of conquests expanding Georgiou’s possessions. Gabriel Lorca is plotting to seize power. The rebels have instigated a new wave of unrest and uprisings. This is the story of the years leading up to Discovery's appearance in the mirror universe.
Excerpt: Terran (Mirror) Universe, 32 Years Ago, Mojave, California
After multiple climate alteration projects failed during the previous two hundred years, the natural environment had reclaimed Mojave and its surrounds. Life on the high desert was harsh and the few who made it their home possessed little material wealth. As they preferred. If you owned nothing considered valuable no one wanted to take it away. Thus this area lacking natural resources and mostly populated by nameless, faceless sexagenarians and older drew little notice from the imperial government or the oligarch class.
Morning began as most summer days did in Mojave, bright and warm with the temperature swiftly rising. By eight am, thirteen-year-old Chris Pike had been up for two hours tending to the early morning chores on his family’s ranch.

ok as I near the end of season 2 I've concluded that discovery's season-arcs are unforgivably dumb (mostly on account of constantly attempting to manufacture high stakes in a...prequel) while the one-off episodes are generally camp and enjoyable

some notes on my headcanons for the buran
the buran specialises in security and humanitarian missions. this includes:
dealing with security threats, whether its minor skirmishes with klingons etc or fighting pirates and policing freight routes. a lot of border patrols on the edge of federation space. threat assessment.
on the humanitarian side, they do rescue and emergency first response missions for starfleet and federation worlds, and colony support, which includes emergency response, supply drops, and defense.
they also do a fair amount of ferrying diplomats, ambassadors, and researchers to destinations either faster or further than civilian transport ships.
there is definitely exploration and scientific missions in amongst that, and he’s handled a couple first contacts, but they don’t do deep space exploration in the way ships like the enterprise do. the crew is perhaps slightly more security focused than other crews, but they also have a lot of medics, linguists and engineers.
gabriel has also worked with starfleet intelligence and, very briefly section 31, in the past, so occasionally they undertake classified missions or intelligence gathering in co-operation with starfleet intelligence.

I was curious about which Star Trek shows had the most human vs non-human characters, so I made this graph. I counted all major characters plus characters who were in at least 10 episodes of each respective show (with a few exceptions for incredibly minor characters who are technically in more than ten episodes but have barely any/no lines). A full list of characters included is below the cut.
TOS:
Part/Non-Human: Spock
Human: Kirk, Mccoy, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, Chekov, Chapel
TNG:
Part/Non-Human: Data, Troi, Worf, Guinan
Human: Picard, Riker, La Forge, Crusher, Wesley, Yar, Pulaski, O’Brien, Ogawa
DS9:
Part/Non-Human: Kira, Odo, Quark, Jadzia, Rom, Nog, Garak, Dukat, Worf, Weyoun, Martok, Leeta, Ezri, Damar, Female Changeling, Winn
Human: Sisko, Bashir, Jake, O’Brien, Keiko, Kasidy, Ross
VOY:
Part/Non-Human: Torres, Neelix, EMH, Tuvok, Kes, Seven (part Borg counts as not entirely human to me), Seska, Naomi, Icheb
Human: Janeway, Chakotay, Paris, Kim
ENT:
Part/Non-Human: T’Pol, Phlox, Soval, Shran
Human: Archer, Reed, Tucker, Sato, Mayweather, Forrest
DIS:
Part/Non-Human: Saru, Tyler (debatable but I’m counting him as partly non-human), L’Rell, Book, T’Rina, Nhan, Rillak, Linus, Zora, Adira (again, debatable, but they’ve got a symbiont so they’re not entirely human to me), Gray
Human: Burnham, Stamets (complicated case but I counted him as still human), Tilly, Culber, Lorca (mirror universe characters are still human, I think), Georgiou, Detmer, Owosekun, Rhys, Bryce, Cornwell, Airiam (she’s still human), Pike, Jett, Nilsson, Pollard, Vance
PIC:
Part/Non-Human: Picard (for part of the show at least), Elnor, Soji, Narek, Seven, Laris/Talinn (I am just pretending they’re the same character for simplicity), Jack (I guess???)
Human: Musiker, Jurati, Rios, Adam, Riker, Crusher, Shaw, Sidney
LWD:
Part/Non-Human: Tendi, Shaxs, T’Ana, Barnes, Kayshon
Human: Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford, Freeman, Ransom, Billups
PRO:
Part/Non-Human: Dal, Gwyn, Zero, Rok-Tahk, Jankom, Murf, Hologram Janeway, Diviner, Drednok
SNW:
Part/Non-Human: Spock, Una, Hemmer
Human: Pike, La’an, Uhura, Chapel, M’Benga, Ortegas

Letter to a Lost Friend
by Barbara Hamby
There must be a Russian word to describe what has happened between us, like ostyt, which can be used for a cup of  tea that is too hot, but after you walk to the next room, and return, it is too cool; or perekhotet, which is to want something so much over months and even years that when you get it, you have lost the desire. Pushkin said, when he saw his portrait by Kiprensky, “It is like looking into a mirror, but one that flatters me.” What is the word for someone who looks into her friend’s face and sees once smooth skin gone like a train that has left the station in Petersburg with its wide avenues and nights at the Stray Dog Cafe, sex with the wrong men, who looked so right by candlelight, when everyone was young and smoked hand-rolled cigarettes, painted or wrote all night but nothing good, drank too much vodka, and woke in the painful daylight with skin like fresh cream, books everywhere, Lorca on Gogol, Tolstoy under Madame de Sévigné, so that now, on a train in the taiga of  Siberia, I see what she sees  —  all my books alphabetized and on shelves, feet misshapen, hands ribbed with raised veins, neck crumpled like last week’s newspaper, while her friends are young, their skin pimply and eyes bright as puppies’, and who can blame her, for how lucky we are to be loved for even a moment, though I can’t help but feel like Pushkin, a rough ball of  lead lodged in his gut, looking at his books and saying, “Goodbye, my dear friends,” as those volumes close and turn back into oblong blocks, dust clouding the gold leaf that once shimmered on their spines.
