Peace and tranquility, maman. Are you of the body? Well, we are, maman! Effie and Dave are in search of the Archons and then a bunch of weird stuff happens that only barely gets a plot nod as we review Star Trek 1x23, "The Return of the Archons"!

I'd looove an invite to that Journey Galactic Discord server. I'm not sure how long ago that post was reblogged but I'd love it!
Here is another 7 day invite to the Discord server that is doing historical readings from old Star Trek newsletters before watching Star Trek episodes as if it was the 1960s. They have edited in short commercials from the 1960s to show during the episode breaks. The group is in the middle of season 2 - only 1.5 years left.
I would encourage you to reach out to Galactic Journey and get on his mailing list. He sends out a notification every week when the zine/newsletter reading begins. It usually starts about 30 minutes before the episode but it can change.
The Lounge channel is for period appropriate (1960s) chatting. The General- tech channel is for current timeline chatting and if you have technical issues. As Galactic Journey reads from the newsletter, you can use either channel to interact and ask questions or leave comments. Just be clear there are only 30 minutes of a person reading aloud, followed by the episode.

Star trek V: The Final Frontier is better than star trek 6. It's just so much better, one of the best of the movies in fact
On a rewatch and that movie gets wayyyy too much hate, especially when it's compared to space cold war 2: but we're done with subtelty and we properly hate the communists this time

watching a star trek TOS episode where a starship captain has a psychosis that makes him aggressive and manipulative. he kidnaps kirk and spock, tortures his doctor, kills another mental patient, and threatens the safety of the Enterprise crew.
despite this, kirk continues to show him dignity and respect. instead of villainizing him, kirk reminds him his mental illness is not his fault and the awful things it has caused him to do are not who he truly is.
when spock finally shoots the man you think "well that's the end of that guy." but then we learn spock intentionally only stunned him, and the man is last seen getting mental health treatment. he is unaware of what has passed or who he is, and is confused to be referred to as "Captain" but he returns the respect he receives
Mental illness was treated better in a '60s scifi show than it is now.

Things I have learned from our DS9 re/watch:
I saw more of this show on network TV than I thought I did, probably a lot in drips and drabs between bits of football games.
Watching it at the same time as initially reading Wheel of Time was probably a huge motivating factor in my desire to both write and live better gender relations in my ongoing life.
I didn't appreciate Sisko, because as a teenager I didn't know how to appreciate Sisko. Now though? Move over, Capt. Yates.
I stole the character of Major Kira.
Actors giving good performances with well-written scripts under good directors, and unconvincing performances under less felicitous circumstances, is a phenomenon not limited to Ms Portman and Mr Christensen.
We should've known Siddig was a creep just from his willingness to play Bashir the way he did. But at the time, lots of people weren't ready to get that.
I mean I STOLE Major Kira, like wholesale, filed off the serial numbers and adapted the background and
Odo was more important to me than I realized. And I realized a lot.
When it comes to the plausibility of an onscreen child belonging to their onscreen parents, there may never be a better casting decision than Cirroc Lofton.
I would much, much rather keep up with Cardassians.
she even LOOKED the same for years WTF brain may the Prophets forgive me
I've thought for years that TNG was my favorite Trek, probably because it was my first. But I was very, very wrong.

Chronological Star Trek rewatch: starting with Enterprise S1ep01. This has always been my least favorite of the Star Treks, not sure if I was introduced to it at the wrong time or if I genuinely don't like it. We'll see I guess!
First thoughts: I hate the decontamination scene so much. It makes me viscerally uncomfortable. Unnecessary.

We're hurled deep into the past, maman -- and find ourselves in 1969 being pursued by a fighter pilot named captain John Christopher of the United States Air Force! Naturally, we beam him aboard and tell him all about the future! Because that… can’t cause any problems. Why are you looking at me like that, maman?

Picard’s Nexus fantasy in Star Trek: Generations annoyed me even as a child, but now I resent it even more deeply for establishing the precedent of depicting Jean-Luc’s family life as a weird, pseudo-Victorian domestic fantasia.
