How I think the characters on my write list (+a few) would react to you falling asleep on them! (HCs)

This post is a semi-filler. I'm taking a break from my Eddie fic to work on this because my motivation is going DOWN. Rest assured at least two new fics ( not including this one) are coming very soon!

Steve Harrington

- He is stiff as a board.

- He does everything in his power to gently lay you down (if possible) without waking you up.

- He has so many photos of you when you're in deep sleep

- even one where he put yourfinger up your nose

- Dustin liked that one.

Billy Hargrove

- He is also very still.

- He quite likes it, actually

- You're like a weighted blanket to him

- He's not to worried about waking you up

- but he's always sad when you do because he loves you lying on him.

- He has a photo of you asleep in your dinner. Deffo.

Jason Carver

- shoves you to the floor.

- jkjk

- no, he does slide you away though

- it makes him uncomfortable when someone is sleeping on him, so dont be upset if you wake up to him sneaking away

Eddie Munson

- He is also probably asleep

- you not awake = boring

- so, his solution is to sleep too.

- on the rare occasion he isn't sleeping, he often is holding your back/waist

- If he starts getting sore he pinches the end of your nose to wake you up, and always apologizes for doing so but never stops.

- He has a video recording of you sleepwalking and singing to "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" while you sweep the couch. You woke up because of how hard he was laughing.

Chrissy Cunningham

- She's always suprised, though it happens quite often

- Usually she sleeps on you, so it's nice

- Her shoulders are a little bony though, so usually you end up cuddled up in the crook of her neck <3

- she holds you very tightly, but not enough to wake you. Shes honestly worried you'll fall off of her!

- (she puts a variety of hats on your head, if she manages to get up without waking you)

- She has a poloraoid wall, and most of them are you and her together, or you sleeping with a bunch of hats stacked on your head

Jim Hopper

- He's the best cuddler EVER

- hes so STRONG and holds you in PLACE!

- he has his arms around you and you'd die if you moved

- he loves affection okay he's just mean about it sometimes

- if he has a coat/flannel/OUTERWEAR he takes it off and lays it on you instead of a blanket

- it's nice because it's warm and smells like him, which is sweet

- Will murder if someone wakes you up. There is no joke here. Eleven was grounded for three days.

Joyce Byers

- MAMA

- MAMA ILY HOLD ME TOO PLS 🥺🥺🥺

- Mama bear! MAMA BEAR!

- She is the best cuddler on this LIST!!

- She has three kids, she has EXPERIENCE in CUDDLES!

- Massages your scalp while your sleeping and if she pulls away you wake up, which leads to hilarious interactions between her and Will when she needs something.

- " Stop laughing Will. Just hand me the remote."

- "It's literally beside you!"

- "Shhh! Hand the remote to your poor old mom!"

Dustin Henderson

- when you fall asleep on him he cries.

- not really but he's killed by the pure trust and kind of wants too

- gives you kithes 🥺

- mostly on the top of your head, but the forehead and your cheeks (depending on the way your head is laying) are hotspots too

- its way to quiet when you're asleep so he falls asleep too

- Which leads to the both of you waking up with a huge bright camera flash as his mom cooes at the both of you

- (bottom left drawer of his dresser, there's a collection of photogrpahs where he's put makeup on your face in your sleep. Also includes you sleeping in his hat, you sleeping cuddled up with him, and you literally sleeping face-down on his bed.)

Mike Wheeler

- Sorry people but you never sleep on him.

- Have you seen him? He's a stick and bony and lanky and ADORABLE but not to sleep on

- to sleep with, however, when you're the first asleep...

- He just likes to rub your arms through your shirt (or not, if you arent wearing one, duh)

- Sleeping together like this is a really intimate thing to him, so he finds it very special to watch you sleep

- his hands are naturally freezing, so he finds clever ways to sneakily twine your fingers together to warm them up

- His most creative way to do so is to put his hands behind your neck.

- you always wake up, laughing and gasping for him to move them, but he keeps them there till they're warm, and then you're both asleep again with your foreheads touching <3

Nancy Wheeler

- notice me senp-

- Now in my honest opinion..

- She has never had someone fall asleep on her until you

- Always unprepared and silently freaking out as she sits stiff as a board, hands in her lap twitching slightly as she stares at the wall or TV

- usually when you move around she takes the oppurtunity as well, making sure you're both comfy before settling

- Awkward! With! Her! HANDS!!

- Always everywhere! They're constantly moving

- Her feet do it too as she's also a restless sleeper and very fidgety

- always feels bad if it wakes you up

- sometimes its nice, one hand petting your head and the other rubbing your back..

- but sometimes her feet kick your ankles and sometimes it hurts, okay.

- also she sleeps with socks on. Didn't know how to fit this in. But she does.

- ( in preperation for you falling asleep on her on the couch, she has a basket of blankets next to the cushions, and theres water bottles and a secret stash of chips hidden under them >:} )

Will Byers

- usually doesn't know you're asleep until you stop answering his questions

- and then which he adjusts to hold you and continues talki g to himself.

- sometimes you'll mutter sleepy 'mmm's when he's said something interesting enough, but he shushes you because you're supposed to be asleep

- very good cuddler, but can never fall asleep

- when he gets tired he passes out, yes, but to get tired he'd have to run around the world four times

- well, he'd have to be mentally tired to fall asleep. No matter how sleepy his body is, he can't fall asleep without talking about anything aad everything until the words turn into whispers and then quiet nonsense.

- he has a photobook, and theres a picture of you sleeping so weirdly that it always gets a laugh (peter griffin fall 💀)

Jonathan Byers

- probably high

- so he just keeps on doing what he's doing.

- he probably asks you stupid questions, regardles of if you answer or not.

- "would you still love me if i was a worm?"

- "..cutests fuckin... mm.. worm.. "

- "*sobbing*"

- "woah holy shit, jon, you okay-"

- "Im a CuTe WoRm! *more sobbing*"

- honestly I love him so much idk how to write abt him zhshahah

- if he's asleep too he's probably resting his head on yours, arms lazily wrapped around tour neck as you bury your face in his neck and chest, holding his torso.

Eleven Byers-Hopper

- freaking out verbally

- "Do not laugh at me, Will. They are not dead, right?"

- probably shaking bc sjes so scared that if she accidentally wakes you up you'll be upset with her

- eventually she relaxes, and moves your head (which has undoubtedly fallen to her shoulder) to her lap

- very gentle and sweet

- once she gets even more comfortable, she probably pets your head and baby-talks to you in a one-sided, lovey-dovey conversation.

- "Whos the most adowable S/O? Y/N is. Yeah he is. The best sleeper in the west."

Max Mayfeild

- literally just wakes you up.

- if you DONT wake up she tries to literally "push your buttons"

- squeeze ur cheeks, poke ur nose, poke ur forehead

- She doesn't want to be trapped all day!

- (she really does though. If you don't get up soon she cuddles right up to fall asleep. Pretend to be asleep long enough and you get to hear Max snore. Loudly.)

Robin Buckley (f.reader)

- treats you like a cat, puts you where you need to be so youre both comfy

- lies with her back against the couch and your back pressed against her chest, holding you in place so you don't fall and kissing the back of your neck gently and ajdvrkdvej

- this man doesnt let you sleep whatre you even talking about???? U joking??? hes high you're comin' down with him.

- "...What color is a mirror..?" "Why is pizza round... cut into triangles... and served in a square box?" "Why is it nail polish and not nail paint?" etc etc

- he always falls asleep very quickly. But he also cries really easily when high off his balls. Over everything. He cried yesterday about the color of his shirt. It wasn't yellow enough. He told me himself

- hes the best pillow. Lay on his chest, kiss his face, let him hold ya

- hes very soft and gentle with you at all times, and since most of the time the both of you are high as skyscrapers, it's a bit more wacky but a lot more sentimental.

- lots of "was drunk and fell asleep like this 😤" pictures in the back of the van

- the funniest being the one of argyle standing on the roof of the van with you and attempting to push you onto the hood "long live the king"style, but you were held on tight

- usually jonathan doesn't quite get as high so he taks a lot of pictures

- got off track but oh well lol

Fred Benson

- He probably has prepared for this moment and lured you into a trap :)

- he had music on softly in the background and blankets and everything all planned out

- once he just gains enough actual courage to ask for cuddles it'll be less odd when he asks you to watch the most boring show on the planet with him

- he kithes your head a lot bc he really loves you, but doesn't voice it a whole lot

Peter Ballars

- he moves you, despite how much he wants to stay and make sure you sleep well

- he doesn't move you very far. Usually you fall asleep in the rainbow room, so he just puts you in your own room to rest

- he always sneaks and checks on you, though, because you're still as graceful as a dying baby bird and vunreable all alone

- 4/10 not a good rainbow room cuddle buddy

- (alone, however, he's very sweet, apologizing for dumping you in your room all alone. Kisses all around, gives you a shoulder rub, you know, usual guilty boyfriend tendancies. Will always cuddle before he has to go back to his own room. He may be a lil' evil but you're his sweetheart <3 )

EXTRA/BONUS: OBSCUREISH CHARACTERS

Dr. Brenner/Papa (child reader, around 5-6)

- he isn't quite sure how you ended up so close to him in the rainbow room as he sat and observed the other children, but when he felt the pressure on his upper arm from you, he couldn't help but grinned

- he woke you up gently, offering you a quick nap in your assigned room, and you accepted by yawning and rubbing your eyes, nodding.

- he walked you to your room with an orderly, and tucked you into bed.

- totally down to tell you a story tbh. Just ask.

- the orderly is assigned to wake you up in exactly two hours, so you better get to sleep quick.

- but no matter. Papa is sure to lend you an extra hour if you need it.

Ted Wheeler 👹 (Holly's fraternal twin)

- he's asleep. He fell asleep first. You were just to scared to change the TV channel and fell asleep too on top of him with your sister.

- (he wakes up first too, and puts you both in bed, making sure you're covered and comfy before heading back to his chair. If you wake up in that time, he'lm tell you both some sort of a story, though it's a "tired dad" version. Usually you're the cool dragon, while Holly's the princess in fantasy stories.

Karen Wheeler 👹 (also Holly's twin)

- she was suprised, of course, when you appeared across from her on the couch and shoved your way into her lap, cuddling close and instantly falling asleep.

- she lets you sit there for awhile, patting your back, before she brings you to her room to let you nap up there. When Holly gets tired she'll join you, but for now you get the big bed!)

Barb Holland

- havfuubeakdvehx

- Hi barb *waves fingers like an idiot*

- she loves cuddles. There's never a time you ever "accidentally" fall asleep on her. Oh no. Youre her hostage now.

- Smooches. Smoochy poochy bwa bwbajettiwvd

- Push her glasses up her nose while you're barely awake, and then proceed to pass out. She will cry of cuteness. No jokes.

Im not sure about N yet, but there is no dount in my mind that Robin is in love with Nancy. Especially after the boat. I literally have no doubt about that.

Yeha that’s understandable. The reason I believe Nancy likes Robin too is just that she doesn’t recognize her feelings yet. The reasons I think that are mainly small things she does.

For example after the library thing she started to pick Robin for everything. She took her with her to visit victor creels hosue, when she told everyone to pair up she instantly choose robin, her and robin sat next to eachother in car rides.

And then with the scene where they become “offical friends” she does a smile that we’ve seen her she with both jonathon and Steve. Also it’s unusual for people to ask if they’re friends or not. The only other relationship that has dramatically highlighted them being friends is Mike and will. I say this because of the “what about us?” “We’re friends will. We’re friends” “well we used to be best friends” and also when Mike said they should be best friends again. We know wills feelings for Mike are romantic but once again it’s the wheeler we’re not so sure about. However given that both of these behaviors are very similar it gives me the idea that they’re both unaware of their feelings. Especially considering that Nancy went from talking about how bad her and Jonathan were to Suddenly being caught on robin saying friends and being super happy that they are friends. I definitely think Nancy still needs time to fully developed her feelings or recognize that they’re even there in the first place but I do believe they are there hidden. Below I’m gonna attach some pictures and gifs and just explain why they are significant

Not to mention Natalia supports ronance like a ton. So even if it isn’t scripted to be liek this Natalia has most likely been acting with romantic intention since she wants it to happen. Even an interviewer had told her she would be campaigning for Robin and nancy ti be girlfriends and Natalia’s response was “put it out thereeee 😏” So if the person who plays the characters thinks it’s possible and fits well and just supports it I think it’s fair to say that Nancy very well does/could have feelings for Robin.

right before your eyes i’m breaking || Max x Lucas

word count: 1.4k

warnings/tags: season 4 spoilers!!, angst, canonical character death, break-up, kissing, grief, mourning, complicated feelings about all of the above, mentions of billy, max-centric

a/n: the timeline of max and lucas’ break up felt a little unclear to me in the show, i couldn’t tell if it was just before the season started or if it was before that, but from the distance between them i felt that it had to have been longer. so this is my take on that! title is, unsurprisingly, from a taylor swift song. i hope you enjoy it, feel free to let me know your thoughts :)

Max breaks up with Lucas over one sentence.

It’s a joke he makes on New Year’s Eve, a one-liner. Her stepfather had vanished at the beginning of December, and she’d assumed he didn’t want to be around for Christmas without Billy. She’d known, from the moment she’d seen him angrily throw his luggage into his car, that he wouldn’t come back. Her mom hadn’t— Her mom hadn’t seemed to get it just then. She’d started to drink while looking out the window a week after he’d left.

Max hoped she’d stop soon.

Her friends were a nice oasis in the middle of her fucked up family life, most of the time. Teasing Dustin because him and his girlfriend were so absurdly adorable. Arguing with Mike Wheeler who just couldn’t stop being a dumbass for five seconds. And, of course, being with Lucas.

Lucas.

Lucas whose smile made her heart skip a beat, Lucas who she sometimes scowled at other girls over, Lucas who got her presents every time they fought like that was the reason why she took him back, Lucas who could make her laugh without even trying.

He’d snuck into her room though the window that night. She wasn’t sure how he’d escaped his parents’ watchful eyes, and she had complicated feelings about seeing him.

Because the truth was, the second she was alone, she just— crumbled. Walking past her mom, passed out on the sofa, and in front of Billy’s old room, which her stepdad had never gotten around to empty before he left, was all it took.

She’d started not leaving her room when she was home, taking as many snacks with her as she could, just because she can’t take it.

So she has to compose herself real quick when Lucas knocks on her window and jumps in with an impressive form. The hours of training with the basketball gym seem to be paying off.

“You could call before you come here, stalker,” is the first thing she says, even though there’s a hint of a smile she can’t control tugging at the corner of her lips.

“I did,” Lucas protests. “I’ve called twice today, but I think your mom just hung up immediately. Is everything okay with her?”

Max feels herself paling at the question. She deflated for just a second when he’d mentioned her mom’s behavior, but the question means she doesn’t have time to process any of it. She’d rather die then act weak, even in front of him. So she just shrugs, forces a smile that doesn’t reach her eyes.

“Yeah! Yeah, everything’s just— totally fine. She’s just… waiting for an important call. Probably didn’t want the line to be occupied in case she missed it.”

Lucas knows she’s lying. She knows he knows. But he just sighs, nods like he believes her, and she’s infinitely thankful for that. He puts a hand on her waist, fingers brushing against the skin just where her shirt rides up, and it sends a delicious feeling through her entire body. It’s not a new feeling exactly, but it’s one they haven’t gotten around to exploring all that much, and she relishes it for now.

He grins as he pulls her close, and she wraps her arms around his neck, looking at him almost daringly. He tastes like mint when he kisses her, and she knows it’s because he chewed gum on the way over, precisely to prepare for that situation. She also knows he started doing it because she refused to kiss him after he’d eaten cheese once, and she could tease him about it, but for now it manages to melt even her cold cold heart and she doesn’t.

It’s then that he says it. Just a few words, mumbled against her lips, that she barely registers in the moment.

“At least now we don’t have to worry about someone throwing me out the window.”

She chokes a brief laugh, because Lucas always used to be so careful around her house, avoiding Billy and her stepdad like the plague.

It starts eating at her later on, when she’s alone though. Lucas and her whispered New Year’s wishes to each other, and she fell asleep with the comforting weight of his arm around her waist. She woke up when he took it off and pressed a kiss against her temple, leaving to get back home, where he hopefully wouldn’t get in too much trouble with his parents. Erica usually covered for them though, and she had agreed to make him pay half price if he was with Max, which meant she’d probably get a call the next day to make sure that’s where he was.

Erica was fucking cool.

The second Lucas leaves, though, the happiness fades, and the comments comes back.

She knows he didn’t mean anything by it, knows that, even if she’s pretty sure he wasn’t saddened in any way by Billy’s death, he would never, ever rejoice over it in front of her. It could have been directed at her stepdad, and, well, it’s not like he was wrong.

But it eats away at her. She can’t stop thinking about it. That night, it keeps her from sleeping.

Lucas notices that something’s wrong soon after that, but she’s— She’s failing at keeping up her usual facade. The way she looks and feels at home— It’s starting to show through the cracks. She’s apathetic, quiet. She knows people can tell. She knows that when Mike sits next to her and their shoulders brush, it’s because he’s trying to give her some comfort, and it works. She knows that when Dustin tries to show her some stupid thing on his radio and introduces her to Suzy, it’s because he hopes it will help her, and it’s sweet.

But it’s just not enough. It can’t be. Nothing can be.

She keeps thinking about the joke.

She tells herself that that’s why she breaks up with Lucas, less than a month after that. Because he’s dumb and insensitive and he just doesn’t get it and he’s not what she needs right now, she doesn’t need a relationship, she needs therapy, and these things are mutually exclusive because you need to love yourself before you love someone else and—

She lets the static fill her head like that when she says the words.

“I think it’s time we end— this. Us.”

He must have seen it coming, she tells herself. He can’t be surprised, after the month they’ve had.

Still, she averts her eyes so she doesn’t see the hurt on his face.

“Are you serious right now? You’re breaking up with me?”

His tone tells her he knows it’s not one of their normal break-ups.

“People change, Lucas. If you didn’t notice I’ve changed, that’s on you, ‘cause I think it’s been pretty obvious.”

It’s a mean jab and she knows it. He doesn’t deserve this. Seeing him wince makes her stare at the floor once more.

“And don’t even think about getting me some thing to get me back or whatever. I can’t be bought.”

That’s mean too. Implying that his previous gestures were insincere when she knows that to be untrue. It brings tears in her eyes, how mean she’s being, but she has no trouble fighting them back. She’s not the victim here.

She’s the perpetrator.

“C’mon, Max, don’t— Don’t shut me out like this. Please. Just— just tell me what’s wrong! I know something’s wrong. I know— I know we can fix this!”

Lucas’ voice is breaking and trembling. If she looks up, she thinks she’ll see him crying. She probably should do that, should have the decency of looking into his eyes, but she’s a pathetic coward and she simply doesn’t have the courage to do that.

“Are we done here? I have somewhere to be.”

She spins around and walks out haughtily. Lucas doesn’t say anything, and she’s relieved that she can’t hear him sob. Maybe… Maybe he knows too. Knows this is for the best. For him as well.

She keeps telling herself that it’s because of the joke. Because it shows how little he understands her and the emotions that she’s going through, because she doesn’t want to burden him with it, because it shows that they’ve just grown to be too different.

But deep, deep down, she knows it’s not because of the joke.

It’s because she laughed.

What kind of person laughs at that?

Not one that deserves to be happy, that’s for sure.

Chapter Nine begins and Mike is an idiot immediately.

I REALLY dislike Mike. He's not my most hated character, but of the main group? He's the one I wouldn't mind feeding to a demo-dog.

And Eleven is a jerk to Max for no reason except writers really can't write a group with two girls in it without making them fight for a boy. UGH.

Billy flirting with Mrs. Wheeler was very uncomfortable. I am back on wanting him to die.

Steve just plain out said that he'd rather be babysitting Mike than having Nancy around. Good boy. Please keep remembering that for future seasons, as Nancy is a terrible girlfriend.

Why is El interested in Mike? I mean, yes, he's like the first boy she met and the first one to be kind to her but really? That's a disgusting trope. Let the girl meet other people before shoving her into a romance.

Hooper needs a parenting manual. Well, we all do, but Hooper right now? Is in urgent need of it.

Gotta give it to Billy's actor: You can hear the slurs he's not saying when he's yelling at Lucas. Seriously, he can't die soon enough. Why did he have to survive to chapter 9 and not Bob?

I LOVE that Steve is only a capable fighter when he is defending the children and only started losing when Billy cheated. As I said, the pokemon evolved! (I am going to end up drawing that, ain't I?)

Max RULES. I've said that Dustin is the owner of the only braincell of the group and that is true. But Max? She has her own brain and her own set of braincells and more courage than all the gang combined. I love her. I really hate that El dislikes her just because of the idiot girls must fight for a guy trope. And she drives like crazy! I really, really love her as a character. She deserves a better group of friends.

The fact that the kids disobeyed Steve but STILL took him with them, so nice. Even if he was going to yell at them.

I can see that Joyce does not fuck around when it comes to revenge. I like that in her too. People should listen to her more often and not just ignore her instincts.

I was joking about Steve being Dustin's pokemon but.... he kinda is. Dustin just... tells him to do things and Steve goes with it. I love that. Such an interesting arc, especially when Nancy is not around.

That last scene with Dart? Adorable. Pity Dustin couldn't keep a demodog as a pet to go with his Babysitter paladin.

WHY is Bill still alive?! I wanted him DEAD not Bob.

But Steve as Dustin's ride? Melt my heart damn it. To think a year ago he was his main bully, and now he'd die for him.

And Ok, Nancy won me a bit by dancing with Dustin. See, if she could get her threesome polycule in order, they'd be amazing parents for Dustin.

... Did they really used the Psycho Stalker song for Eleven and Mike's first dance? Like, REALLY?! Do they know what they did or were just... that dumb? (Although given her nickname for him, it was fitting it was the song to Max and Lucas's first kiss)

Ok. The series won me over this season in a way season 1 didn't do. Mostly by not cribbing every note from Stephen King's books as they did in season 1 and by giving Steve an amazing arc and character development. So... let's see if season 3 holds.

Stranger Things X Country Music

Okay? Here’s the thing, stranger things is in small town Indiana, most of the teens there know how to use a weapon, and the Byers were taken hunting on their birthdays, that’s a hicktown. As someone from small town south, everyone is raised a little on country and has a soft spot for at least one song, regardless of main music taste. Our “before he cheats” if you will. So here’s my list of 80s-early 2000s country that I think would be the stranger things characters’ (from Hawkins so no Max and Billy) favorite country song with lyrics and an added headcanon type thing

ALSO country is mainly just narrative poetry out to music, trigger warning for death and suicide

Jim Hopper

He cried the first time he heard it because it made him think of all of the awful things life unfolded for the women in his life, still cries at the last verse despite none of the women in his life dying in childbirth. He relates to the hopelessness of it

El still has that childlike adoration of beauty well into her early adulthood and Taylor’s debut album really spoke to her. But stay beautiful really reminds her of people like Max, Mike, and Nancy who she always saw as beautiful and could see the good in

Will is someone still heavily attached to the wild feeling of not having worries as a child because of losing the tail end of his childhood to the upside down, the idea of comparing that to the beauty of flowers brings him comfort

I’d like to believe that at some point (probably post season 2) Johnathan began to see Jim as some sort of father Figure, thinking of him comforting himself and his mother when they thought will was dead and how he put himself into caring for will after the upside down. He idolizes the way he cared for their family when he didn’t have to because Lonnie never did

It makes her think of her younger self in combination with her feelings for Jim. The constant promises getting in the way of finding their way to each other

Is it really him or the loss of my innocence?

Nancy definitely associates the song with Steve and her season one self. Unsure of if she really misses who she was with Steve or just who she was before the upside down tore her understanding of life apart

This song has a lot of energy of a man trying to cling to his own masculinity in insecurity which I think Ike relates to a lot. Especially in this point where he can only tell people he loves that he loves them when they’re in danger, he relates to this concept of clinging to what makes a man a man like his father does

Lucas after getting Max and himself wrapped into the upside down drama begins growing obsessed with the idea of running away with her and just getting her out of Hawkins before she can get hurt again, he doesn’t care where, just somewhere safer

This is a song on her getting ready mixtape, definitely singing along to it while getting ready in her young adulthood. The energy of it reminds her of the fire her younger self had

Dustin Henderson

Dustin associates his adult freedoms and his love for people who surround him as this new breath of air after basically parenting his own mother. The love he finds in adulthood feels like coming up for air, breathing that first deep breath when you come out the water

And I spoke sweeter

And I gave forgiveness I’ve been denying

Steve truly does believe that his brush with death in dealing with the upside down found it’s way to bettering him. despite the trauma he gained he sees himself for having a new love for life and the people in it from how easy it was to lose people to the monsters of that other world, he finds it relatable

Hear me out, Eddie would NEVER admit to actually liking this song or any country of that matter. But I think he tends to take on guilt for things that aren’t his fault and he’d find something really relatable in a sad away about Alison’s verse. Also I believe in the country music to emo music pipeline, so this is a song that would be on the list to getting him into darker lyrics in my opinion

HAHAHAH i'm glad the Hopper comment could make you laugh. it and the Ted scene were fun to write for me just because of my own experience with friends' dads? i've been in a single-mother household for most of my life, so sometimes it makes it awkward to interact with other people's dads, just because it's like i don't know how to act around them and they don't know how to act around me. it was just fun to sprinkle my own experience in with all of this, especially because Jonathan and Will are my ultimate st projection characters

yeah writing Ted as being passive about the whole Byler thing 😩 he's like "yeah sure whatever. just as long as you aren't eating all of our food idc." Ted seems too uninvolved to have the energy to be actively homophobic (at least through a comedic lens). i think through a more serious lens he definitely could be/is. idk. this fic's lighter, so i made it in the universe where there isn't a lot of homophobic rhetoric to deal with :')

oh believe me - writing Will imagining 2009 put me in a bit of my own crisis 🙃 i'm one of those people who still thinks the 80s was only 20 years ago, so having a character in the 80s imagine life in the 2000s being written by somebody in the 2020s made my brain hurt

ahh yeah Holly!! i don't think i've ever really written with her before. idk!! i thought it was fun!! i'm an older sister, so idk how younger sisters are "supposed" to act, but i figured the brother/sister dynamic would largely remain the same, and my brother and i definitely used to get into kicking/hitting fights with each other a lot lol. it was also just fun to imagine them being brats to each other, because while siblings do have their sweet moments, i feel like a lot of the time there are more moments Like That. or maybe that's just how i was raised idk (my family's love language is sarcasm, in case you were wondering 😩)

AHHH thanks for asking about the job!! yeah it's going good so far!! i think it'll be a nice change of pace for me, and i'm really excited about it :D

Mike Wheeler x F!Reader Warning : ST S4 redo, Injuries, that's all really, Plot: Fluff, Comfort, very mild, S4 Vol. 2

She’s the first to climb the sheet ladder, helped by Mike, who follows her up. She hits the mattress and rolls out of his way. He hits next, the two sharing a quick giggle and a smile. She holds her hand out, which he quickly takes, and she pulls him up to her. Dustin hits next. Once Dustin lands, they all look up to Eddie, who hasn’t started climbing yet. He’s looking from them and back outside.

Y/N realizes what he’s going to do before the rest do. They all shout, scream, asking him to stop what he’s doing, but it’s no use. He’s cut the sheet and moved the mattress before they can change his mind. They frantically try to think of something, when it hits her.

“Mike, put me on your shoulders. I can reach and go through.”

“Absolutely not Y/N! You are not going back through there alone.”

“I won’t be alone. I’ll be with Eddie. I’ll stop him, but it needs to be done now.”

Mike and Dustin share a look, Dustin shrugging his shoulders cause he doesn’t know what else to do. Dustin holds his hands out, Y/N using them as a step to climb onto Mike's shoulders. She knows it might hurt him, but she’ll apologize later. She uses all her force to jump from his shoulders, just barely grabbing the edge of the portal. She uses her upper strength to pull herself up and manages to land similar to Steve earlier. Thank god for gymnastics.

She grabs her weapon, as well as Eddie’s, from earlier and dashes out the door.

“Eddie! Eddie, where are you?” She doesn’t hear anything from him but she does hear the demo-bats. She rubs towards the noise, finally finding Eddie. He’s only got a shield and is surrounded.

“Eddie!”

He’s finally heard her and he doesn’t look happy. She runs into the fray, throwing him his saber or whatever they had decided to call it. They stand back to back, swinging at anything that comes near them. They don’t hit every one, and some get a bite in here and there.

“What the hell are you doing Y/N? This was supposed to be my moment of glory!”

“If you think we were just gonna let you sacrifice yourself for this shit town, you’re very wrong,” she says, hissing as a bat gets her upper arm.

“Should’ve known you’d never let me have the spotlight,” he says, a bat getting him on the back. As it bites his back, his tail swings, slashing across her face. She can feel it slash through her skin, the blood rolling into her eye.

“We’re gonna get out of this, and we’re gonna clear your name. Your year, remember?”

“You gonna be there to watch me cross the stage, Little Harrington?”

“We all will. Front row, cheering as you flip off the principal.”

Suddenly, they are swarmed, the bats getting several bites in. As quickly as they came, they all fell to the ground. They both droop onto each other, looking around. Was it over? Had they won?

Y/N looks down at herself, seeing multiple spots where blood is oozing through her clothes. Looking over at Eddie, he doesn’t look much better.

They hear shouting, looking up to see Mike and Dustin running towards them.

Mike falls to his knees, sliding to his girlfriend's side. “Shit shit shit, Y/N, what the hell were you thinking?”

“She couldn’t let me have the glory man, she’s my hero. Saved my life, for sure,” Eddie says as Dustin helps him up. Mike puts an arm under Y/Ns legs and around her shoulders, holding her closely to his chest.

“We need to get them both out of here, and get medical attention immediately.”

They all start to walk to the trailer, quick and unable to wait for the other three. They all manage to get through and as Mike goes to carry Y/N out of the trailer, the ground starts to shake. The four move away from the trailer, the shaking causing them all to fall to the ground. Mike softens Y/N’s fall, holding her tightly to his chest. They watch in shocked silence as Eddie’s trailer is swallowed by the huge portal opening up in its place.

“What the fuck? How much blood have I lost, cause I think I’m seeing things,” Y/N says, clutching onto Mike's arm that’s wrapped around her chest.

“Vecna's curse, the four chimes. We heard them,” Robin says, walking up from behind them.

“We need to go, now,” Y/N says, attempting to stand up. She quickly falls back into Mike, everything spinning. She has so many questions, but they’re going to have to wait.

“No, you need medical attention. We’ll split up, the four of us will go get your wounds cleaned, you three go find the other three. Drop us off at the Harrington house,” Mike orders, scooping Y/N up and starting towards where they left the vehicle. No one argues, just follows.

Once they’re dropped off, Mike carries Y/N up to her room and lays her on her bed.

'Screams incoherently' I may not survive this. So intense. So many feels. @kedreeva here I go again.

Episode 7 flailing commencing...

Mike reassuring El that she's still pretty without the wig is adorable.

Lucas' realisation that the bad men are real and they are BAD. Screaming his head off down the radio that they all need to run, because they're coming for Eleven.

The reconcilation scene. All the feels. Also, adults have problems with that level of accountability and responsibility. Go kids.

Joyce is the best. Joyce is the best. Joyce is the best. Jonathan thinks she's mad about the lying (and maybe the getting into trouble with the police). No, she's angry about you planning to put yourself in that level of danger, because she's your mother and protecting her kids is the most important thing in her life.

Nancy's reaction to all the lights at the Byers place.

Mike being offended at the suggestion that his sister might be in league with the bad people. Only he is allowed to criticise her!

Oh, that's why Troy is the way he is. His mother is a hell-Karen. As opposed to Karen Wheeler, who is a lovely person who also just wants her kids to be safe.

Only a privileged white guy could come out with the 'they're our government. They're on our side' line. They've gone through your things, they're hiding information from you. Please tell me you at least asked to see a search warrant? (I doubt it)

These agents do not seem particularly competent, if Hopper can take them all out by himself. Also, it says something about his reputation that the kids seem to think so highly of him. Dustin's paranoia levels are also understandable!

Yay for Steve finally realising that Tommy and Carol suck. Character development! Also kudos to movie theatre guy for accepting the unspoken apology and attempt to start making things right. (Steve doesn't admit it outright, but fairly sure the guy can put together a nasty bit of graffiti, the cops being called to a fight round the corner, and a teenager with a messed up face offering to help clean. I might have checked he wasn't concussed before I let him up a ladder though!)

El trying and failing to find Will and Barb. Realising the solution and visibly screwing up her courage to go and tell the others what she needs.

'Why are you trying to close this curiosity door?' My favourite line so far. Also Mr Clarke's enthusiasm for explaining the special (gross) effects in the film. So many people would do that in a condescending way (why are you scared? It's not real) or to show off. He's just excited. And adorable.

Sibling stuff with Nancy and Mike. Their relationship has been so well written and acted throughout, you really believe in it. The 'you drive me up the wall but I will go for anyone who hurts you' thing. A+, no notes.

The stuff with Joyce and El... my heart! Joyce just sees a frightened kid, and that's something she can help. When she tells El to get out of there at the first hint she might be in danger, and El realising that she might actually mean it, that an adult might be trustworthy... all the tears.

The sensory deprivation scene is just incredible. Terrifying and heartbreaking and touching. Is this the first time an adult has kept a promise to El? Joyce is there for her all the time, even as she hears her son's exhausted voice through the radio, enough of her attention is on El to pull her out the second the monster finds her.

Nancy. The fact that you are right about the danger to Hopper and Joyce does not make your plan a better idea. I don't think she's even considering her own safety now that she has had the hope that Barb might still be alive snatched away.

Hopper. You got caught last time you tried this. Remember? You did not think this through properly.

Bad cliffhanger. Bad. No. Leave Will alone, he's dealt with enough.

Hey! Wow! I have so many muses, but since I’m on a ST bender, I’ll answer for them. I’ll try to keep it short and sweet, I promise, but fair warning for all you who have better things to read on your dash! I have 5 ST muses..

Eddie Munson- I picked Eddie because like many before me and after me, his personality won me over, mostly because I see a whole bunch of myself in him, it’s like looking into a mirror if I were a tall white man. I’m sure everyone says that and he’s definitely a much cooler freak than me, but I still really love how much of myself was reflected in him on screen, even if it’s all in my head.

Robin Buckley- I picked Robin because I adore her relationship with Steve and I think what makes her so interesting is how so many of her traits can be traced back to neurodivergent traits (relatable!), and I also love how clever she is. She has so much potential!

El (Jane) Hopper- Identity and the loss of it being such a huge part of her development is so important to me, so picking El was a no-brainer. Constantly struggling under the weight of feeling like a monster and facing actual monsters that have been terrorizing her for years, as well as the pressure she must feel to protect the people she’s chosen as family makes El such an interesting character to write about and develop on my own.

Mike Wheeler- I love Mike, I really do, but I’m definitely on the whole “What the hell happened to this kid’s personality??” train. I feel like writing Mike can help give some insight as to why he acts the way he does, in a much more satisfying way (personally), but I mostly love to remember just how much this kid seems to love his friends, and pissing off adults.

Jonathan Byers- I remembered Jonathan a lot differently before I rewatched ST but on my rewatch I came to appreciate him much more. He’s gone through so much, and honestly, his backstory and motivations feel underrated in the show. He’s a kid who has faced so much in his life, and just genuinely wants to be himself, and take care of his family. The aftermath of everything he’s faced can actually be seen in his actions and words but even then he still tries to take the backseat in most situations.

Jesus Christ this is so long-I’ll only do the canon/headcanon thing for like 2 of them, I swear

El (Jane) Hopper- My biggest headcanon I guess is that every so often she looks in on Kali w/her remote powers, just to know she’s okay, and my canon fact I’ll never dispute is how conflicted but mostly leaning towards fear and anger, her feelings against Papa are.

Mike Wheeler- I headcanon that Mike and nobody else forgot Will’s birthday in s4, the writers’ memory lapse be damned, and canon that I’ll never change is his fear that El won’t need him anymore. It makes for excellent development for him when done well.. >:]

Jonathan Byers- I headcanon that Jonathan told Nancy about the college issue when he got back to Hawkins because JESUS H MAN, I don’t know how he keeps going through things and not learning you should tell your loved ones things when you can before it’s too late, but a canon fact I’ll never change is how much he cares for his mother and brother and new sister, and how much he’d do and how far he’d go for them.

Literally no one asked for this but because I spent the majority of last year (...and 2019, and 2018...) reading byler fics and coping with life, I thought I’d make a list of some of my absolute favorites.

The other day I was basically starving for some byler fics and the angel @magicalfairy provided me with some of her faves so I thought I’d do the same, because I love reading, and I love all of these fics and I appreciate their writers💗 And fic writers in general, come on!

- This is a mix of long works and one-shots/short stories. - Everything is mostly fluff with a tad of angst and a lot of internalized homophobia conflict. - Every fic is completed, except for the ones I mention that they are not. - I try my best to lay out the stories in a way that I won’t spoil you the plot but also warning you of some stuff you might don’t like. Either way, all of these fics are correctly tagged by their respective authors/owners, so read at your own risk. For better understanding, in between brackets I denote Rating, Words and quantity of Chapters. - I feel like I should clarify, none of these are narrated in the singular first person. None of that “And I told him...”, no.

Long fics

a dream always the same (T, 99k, 35 chapters) What happened in those few weeks between the Battle of Starcourt and the Byers leaving Hawkins. Literally a satisfying and very needed fill in of season three, with a good dose of Mike’s thoughts and conflict. Mike’s characterization is specially amazing in this one. The writing style is amazing and I know the author put everything into making it historically accurate, and it was really sweet. You probably read it, it’s by the amazing sevensided here on Tumblr🧡

Spring Break (T, 120k, 14/15 chapters) The slowburn of my dreams. Lots of internalized conflict and conflict with each other. Conflict within the Party (uhh kind of), conflict with Mike and Will. Byers family has moved and the kids are visiting! Chaos. Characterization is on point. Yeah, I know it’s unfinished, but the fourteenth chapter actually serves as a pretty nice ending.

This is where it starts (M, 148.8k, 24 chapters) Aged up characters. The Party is in college and Will disappears again, but now it’s different. Mike knows he didn’t vanish from thin air, and the discovery he and the Party end up making is pretty insane. Mystery solving/fantasy/third dimension, throw in a bit of D&D and Mike realizing some shit, and you get this marvelous fic. It’s a breath of fresh air. The world building is definitely one of the elements that stands out the most, because it’s very nicely described, it sounds like a dream and it’s completely immersive. Absolute gem of a fic.

there’s a Starman waiting in the sky (M, 30.6k, 8 chapters) Do I need to say anything? Will is out there living his best life and Mike realizes that wow, umm, maybe his best friend looks a bit too nice with that costume... and wait, is he getting horny? It’s actually really fun and sexy.

The Evening Speaks (T, 23k, 7 chapters) In where Mike is a late-night college radio host and Will is the art student that stays up till late to catch up with Wheeler on the Mic. They flirt through songs y’all, this one is really sweet.

heads or tails? (E, 24k, 3 chapters) Aged up characters. I know most people don’t enjoy sex in fics and with specific characters but this one is insanely well written. It’s a slowburn that commits to the tension and with every word you are grasping and anticipating their next move. I think you can find the author here on Tumblr as yousaidyes🧡

The Man of Average (M, 56.7k, 5/? chapters) Aged up characters. No but you don’t understand, the writing here is absolute gourmet. The story is exciting as well, it’s super interesting. Weirdly enough, for being very aged up characters, they are well characterized but they don’t feel like teenagers. They are naturally Mike and Will. The author really captured Mike and Will’s essence. I know, it’s unfinished and it’s updated very rarely, but this is the typical fic you can’t believe someone just posted on the internet for free. I will say though, I think it’s definitely not for everyone. Read at your own risk.

Heartstrings (E, 82.8k, 24/? chapters) Aged up characters. By the same author of The Man of Average. A collection of memories, the road to Mike and Will’s happy ever after. And fucking hell!!!!! You’ll cry and get angry, you’ll cheer for them, then you’ll want to crash their faces together because god dammit you love each other!!! But yeah, same thing here. The writing and the way the story is laid out as a nonlinear narrative is brilliant. And I also think this is one of the best Will versions I’ve read. The author might as well be the og creator of this two characters tbh. You can find the author here as mylesimeblr🧡

Sinners behind the walls (T, 1.5k, 1/1) And because I can’t stop recommending this author, a little thing of Mike tormenting himself but also being too deeply committed to Will.

The Red Envelope series (T/E, 167K, two completed works) Something happens that Will thought was impossible and from there, pure drama and romance. Anything by this author has the potential to become your absolute favorite fic, but this series in particular is amazing. I doubt that any of you haven’t read this, but it doesn’t hurt to put it in this list. I’m pretty sure the author is serendipitous-magic on Tumblr🧡

A New Fight series (T, 91k, two completed works, one WIP) And finally the Star Wars AU that we all needed. But this isn’t your typical “Mike is Han”, “Will is Leia” and “El is Luke”, it’s way more interesting than that, and the author has appropriated the Star Wars world like no other. I’ll admit I’m not a 100% fluent in SW lore but this is amazing to me either way. This author is also on Tumblr, tea-for-one-please🧡

- Yes, most of these are (if not all), in a way, canon compliant/canonverse/canon continuation into fanon. (In a way)

One-shots and short stories

Sundae for Two, Please (G, 4.8k) Steve being the supportive friend and older brother these kids collectively need. (not Jonathan erasure, we love him). Steve is very sweet himself, and this little cute thing through his POV is gorgeous. Yes, it’s byler.

Backstage (T, 10k, 2/2) Jonathan, you forgot to mention to Will how hot your new band’s guitarist is, dude. Now he’s hyperventilating and weirdly flirting with him in the corner. Background Stonathan because why not.

102 Peach Street (G, 3.8k) Established relationship, but not only that, they are married :’’))) PURE fluff. Extreme fluffiness. Diabetes.

sweatshirts and bottled up feelings (T, 3.2k) Or, Mike thinks that the sweatshirt Will wears looks insanely good on him. And kitchens are for lovers.

kiss it better (T, 16.3k) Basically one of the best character studies of a few precise moments of Mike and Will’s relationship and feelings.

will wonders ever cease (T, 11.3k) #i ship will and happiness. Omfg what a beautiful piece of fanfic. Will centric, this kid really deserves all the good in the world.

The Calm After the Storm (T, 1.6k) Tooth rotting fluff, boyfriends in love. Boyfriends being lazy, cuddling, love words, kisses. Boys loving each other’s company... Basically, Mike and Will in their element. What more can you ask for?

neither of us ready to let go (T, 4.8k) That scene from season three, but a bit of a fix it.

Still in love (G, 1k) Domestic, married life au fluff. Y’all, I’m a sucker for established Byler, even if I can’t find many fics with it. But this is very sweet. It takes place in 2020, but I don’t think there are any mentions of the COVID-19 crisis that I remember.

I Nver Find Out ‘Til I’m Head Over Heels (G, 12.5K) Classic 5+1 fic. If you haven’t read it, where have you been? This is your moment. In where Mike keeps inviting Will to the school dances and Will thinks it’s just a joke until he realizes it’s not.

Before You’re Gone (T, 5.9k) Will is leaving Hawkins and Mike thinks this is a great moment for a confession. This one I discovered last friday, thank you friend @magicalfairy 💗

You’re weird Wheeler (M, 4.5k) Mike unintentionally starts a tradition of going to each other to talk about their sexual encounters just after they finish. Will keeps getting more explicit with the details he shares, and he makes his best friend interested. This one is really fun y’all.

Out-Of-Town Friends (N/R, 4.6K) It’s not rated. I haven’t re- read it but I’d say it would probably fall in a T rating. So cute!! Will has new friends and sneaks off every friday and the Party doesn’t know where he is going, so Mike decides to follow him and is surprised.

Snowed Under (G, 1.3k) By the same author of The New Fight series. Mike is spending christmas by himself in college because a snowstorm hits Chicago and Nancy can’t drive to see him, but then he has a surprise visitor. Ahhh just a lil sweet holiday fic. Super cute.

you love me anyway series (T, 7.1k, three completed works) Literally just the cutest thing ever. Established Byler. Will loves to take pictures and he loves taking pictures of Mike. It’s adorable.

you wanna be friends forever (i can think of something better) (T, 9k) This one is so amazing. So. Amazing. From Will’s POV, my kid deserves the world and he gets it.

okay not to be okay (T, 4.9k) Mike is a bit sad but then everything is okay.

can’t hold out forever (G, 18.4k) Y’all!!!!! 5+1 sweetness. Mike has been falling in love since kindergarten. And it’s long af, you’ll enjoy it.

even if it takes forever (G, 1.3k) College short AU, they miss each other, they love each other, they promise all to each other. It is sappy y’all.

clear as day (N/R, 18.4K, 4 chapters) It’s not rated, but I’d say it falls in the T category. Strangers to friends to lovers. And also, everyone is pretty gay; we have our dynamic trio Mike, Max and El as disaster lesbians (and gay). Will works at the library and he is also gay. Lucas and Dustin and Will are the best friends we needed. It’s very sweet and the Party is kind of formed here!

I went overboard with the one-shots, so you must have realized how much I love long one-shots and I favor them over long works lmao but they are all amazing!!! If it’s on this list, I probably read it at 2 am, sobbing in my bed. So. Hope you enjoy it☺️🧡

groups i want to see in stranger things but probably won’t

lots of these will never happen but i would love to see their interactions :) also there’s a lot of robin here mainly because im so excited to see her properly interact with the rest of the gang.

robin and nancy - ok so this one actually is happening and im extremely extremely excited about it. firstly, because nancy needs a friend after barb. secondly, they’re so different and i love them so much but for such different reasons so im intrigued to see what their interactions are like.

murray, nancy and mike - i’ve talked about this before but this trio would actually be so iconic. the angst would be through the roof, they would all hate eachother so much but like slightly less than they hate everyone else and they would be so done with everyone else.

and by extension of this

nancy and mike - as i’ve said before i am extremely annoyed that we get like zero nancy and mike content. like they would be amazing together, the dynamic would just be incredible. plus they’re my two favourite characters and this is honestly my biggest gripe with the duffer brothers, like GIVE US WHEELER SIBLING MOMENTS.

joyce and robin - ok i got the idea for this from this fanfic (which i highly recommend) and i just think they would be so soft. idk how to explain this one i just think they would be super cute.

will and dustin - i wish we saw these two interact more, like i feel like dustin would really make will laugh and they would just have cute friendship moments. i also just want the original four boys back again, even just for a bit, because i liked the group dynamic even though we’re completely robbed of it.

jonathan and robin - ok so they would get along so well. nobody can convince me otherwise they’ve both got little “im quirky, im a loner” complexes and i love them for it and i need to see them be little outsiders together.

steve and eleven - i can’t be the only person who thinks this would be adorable, like i can just see steve showing el movies and being like a big brother (tbh i think steve and eleven would get on better than jonathan and eleven as siblings) idk they would just be so soft.

lucas and hopper - they both see right through mike’s bullshit and i love that for them. again i dont know how to explain it i just think they would be so funny.

nancy, robin and max - three badasses who take nobody’s shit. we might actually see this in s4 but i like want just a scene with the three of them cause i feel like there isn’t enough female friendships/solidarity in the series.

erica and mike - again two people who literally get annoyed with everyone and i want to see mike get highly annoyed with erica and erica just not caring. this will literally never happen but idc.

robin and mike - 1. mike would tolerate robin and robin would tolerate mike at first but they would actually grow to be super close and i want this with my entire heart. 2. gay and lesbian solidarity

will and eleven - ok so i know this is actually happening cause they’re siblings but they would be so soft omg. like i want to see scenes of them at school looking out for eachother and im soooo ready for it. (also the people who say that will would hate el.... like are talking about the same will? like its just not in character for him in my opinion) and ik that noah and millie get along very well so im excited to see their on screen chemistry.

anyways these are the ones im mainly hoping for (though most will never happen.... sigh) but im interested to see what others want to see.

Keep the Door Open! (Mike Wheeler X Fem! Reader)

Request: could u do a image we’re maybe her mom is Joyce Byers she heading to work and then she catches them in a heated make out session(she dating mike wheeler). Then she make Jonathan keep a eye on them while she goes to work then when she come back she talk to them. Sorry it that a lot to ask for.

So maybe, in retrospect, having your boyfriend over and making out with him in your bedroom without your mom knowing had been a bad idea. It wasn’t your idea, though, at least not originally. It had been Mike’s and when Mike had an idea, there was no getting him off of it. He could be really stubborn when he wanted to be. His stubbornness had always been a trait you adored and admired in him.

But now all that trait had gotten you was a one-way ticket to being babysat by your older brother.

Jonathan clearly did not want to be put on babysitting duty anymore than you wanted him to babysit you and Mike, but he’d had no choice. As soon as your mom had found you and Mike like that it had been game over. There was no turning back.

Your brother pretended like he didn’t know why he was there; he didn’t even scold you for it. There was no point. You both knew you’d get an earful from your mother later for it. Mike apologized profusely throughout the afternoon, but you waved him off each time. This wasn’t entirely his fault anyway, if you hadn’t agreed to it, maybe you wouldn’t be in this situation. The two of you spent most of the afternoon creating new D&D characters for a campaign Dustin was planning instead.

Your other brother, Will, was out with Lucas and Dustin. You wished you and Mike had decided to join them after all, but it was too late now. The hours ticked by slowly. Then, in the late afternoon, Joyce Byers returned home from her shift at the store. Jonathan immediately jumped to hi feet, muttering an excuse about how he needed to go see Nancy Wheeler for something and scampering out the door before anyone could demand he stay.

“You know we need to have a talk, right?” Your mother asked as she began putting the groceries away. Mike stood up from where the two of you had been sitting on the floor.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Byers. That will never happen again. It was my idea, we got really into it and sometimes I get a little carried away when I have ideas even if they’re stupid, you know? Like this one-time Dustin, Lucas and I wanted to- Ow!” He let out a yelp as you elbowed him, glaring at you and rubbing his arm.

“You’re not in trouble, I think we just need to set some boundaries for the house.” Your mom held out her hands. At those words, the tension in your shoulders immediately eased up. Boundaries were something you could live with, punishment not so much. You were thankful she wasn’t angry or anything with you.

“Boundaries?” Mike asked, looking between the two of you uneasily. He clearly wasn’t used to strict rules like that being set in place. You wondered briefly if it was because he was a boy, you were sure Nancy definitely had a stricter set of boundaries than Jonathan.

“She means we can’t be in my bedroom, alone with the door shut anymore. And we can’t do what we did earlier.” You felt your face heat up slightly. There was nothing quite as embarrassing as having your mom walk in on you and your boyfriend making out on your bed. Especially when she hadn’t even known said boyfriend was, in fact, your boyfriend.

You would never forget that moment, you shuddered inwardly.

“And if the two of you are home than me or Jonathan must be here as well, I trust you both but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.” Your mother added and you nodded. There was nothing unreasonable about this, as much as you hated to admit it. Your mother was a practical woman, she wasn’t stupid. She was raising three kids; she knew her stuff when it came to this.

You and Mike nodded, both looking down at your feet. You wondered if Mike was feeling as embarrassed as you were.

“Y- You won’t tell my mom, will you Ms. Byers?” Mike scratched the back of his neck. You shuddered at the thought of Mrs. Wheeler giving you and Mike this same talk. As nice as she was, you suspected that it would be a lot more awkward than this one.

“Of course not, but don’t let me catch you doing this again, okay?”

You both nodded and as soon as she dismissed you, hurried to clean your D&D stuff from the floor in the family room. Neither of you spoke as you carried the stuff back to your bedroom. Mike kneeled to push the papers into their proper spot.

“That could’ve been worse.” Mike finally said, breaking the silence and you laughed.

“You should’ve seen her talk with Jonathan and Nancy. Will and I could hear the whole thing from the other side of the house. I’m pretty sure all of Hawkins could hear her.” You grinned and Mike grinned back.

Nothing could work parents up quite as much as young love, that was just the way life worked. But you couldn’t help but feel somewhat grateful you lucked out and got such an amazing mom. At least she hadn’t banned you from seeing Mike ever again, although part of you suspected maybe she wanted to.
