in a similar vein to the non-verbal ghoulia discourse, there's a tiktok going around of someone swearing that g1 lagoona is canonically indigenous and g3 got rid of that

1. she is not, it's a harmless headcanon but it's not intended

2. lagoona can still be interpreted as indigenous-coded in g3, moreso than g1 imo, see: the episodes about the sea monster talisman (this person admits they haven't looked into g3 much; sounds awfully familiar)

3. this person said g3 lagoona is of spanish descent, which is untrue and ignorant as hell! she's honduran

4. the person saying all of these things is white, do with that what you will

Honestly if anything, I really hope that Palworld makes developers realize that monster collecting games can be more than just JRPGs. I've played a whole lot of these other monster collection games that people recommend (Yo-kai Watch, Digimon, Monster Hunter Stories, Fossil Fighters, etc) and despite how much I love monster collecting games... I'm burnt out on RPGs! I want something new to the genre, and I think THAT is why Palworld appeals to me so much.

Like, what would a platformer monster collector look like? A metroidvania? A soulslike?? THIS is the door I want Palworld to open. I know GameFreak isn't threatened by this game at all, they're not gonna improve because of it. But I DO want it to inspire indie devs to think outside the box.

Okay so I finished the MH webisodes today and I gotta say, the last episode really pissed me off. Basically the premise is that the Ghouls were told to write an essay on why they belong at Monsters High, and instead made a group video where they each stated their reasons. Dandy? Sure, except every single character featured was irrelevant.

Typically, the purpose of a finale is to mirror the first scene so we can see how the characters progressed. Instead, this finale featured characters who were just introduced or has as little as one episode of screen time.

At the very least, the main ghouls (Frankie, Drac, Claw, Cleo, Ghoulia and Lagoona) showed up, but the final episode felt pointless and lacklustre. Also, a good chunk of the last volume felt like one big advertisement (which by all means, that’s usually the purpose of cartoons for toys).

Now, how could this have been improved?

I honestly think they could’ve ended it after the Freak Du Chic episode. This arc had high enough stakes that they could’ve used this to express how much the characters progressed and developed throughout the course of the series. Well, as long as they actually gave the main ghouls AND mansters their deserved screen time.

Of course, we can’t actually expect decent writing from the G1 writers, but I really would’ve liked to see more minor characters like Abbey, Heath, Clawd and Deuce get the endings they deserved instead of being overshadowed by new characters that nobody cared about.

I never stated that the desaturation made her look good, it does look very muted and dull, I will agree with that- it was definitely a poor artistic choice and honestly it couldve been desaturated for alot of reasons, it could even be washed out cause the doll's box art is even more vibrant than the image you shared. They couldve warmed it up just a bit...but this is marketed concept art, it's not even the official art style in the show. Heck in the show her skintone is much more warm and vibrant as well. I was simply saying the two pics you used were a poor comparison. I just was disproving your point with color theory, never mentioned I agreed with this particular artwork and even if it was a meme post, it was inaccurate and unfair comparison. One is official art used both in the series and as marketed art. The other paled in comparison because of the soft colors.

This is much more accurate to the newer series and not gonna lie... this looks pretty close to G1 Clawdeen's skintone.

i was thinking about that ask i received the other day and how uncharacteristically upset the topic had made me when i usually just think "mh. gross!" and move on, and after mulling it over a while i realized it wasn't about the topic at all, it was the ask itself that freaked me out. i've mentioned sporadically before (for obvious reasons lol) that i used to be involved in fandom discourse when i was younger and that!! fucked me up quite a lot. between exacerbating my ocd and straight up getting cyber stalked (i almost feel guilty using that word, like i don't deserve it but. yeah that is 100% what happened to me), the topic is something I have very complex and personal opinions on but that i hate talking about in public because it still sets off my fight or flight response.

i know some people in the fandom are like "let me know if i ever rb someone who wrote/drew gross stuff" and that's entirely their choice and i respect it. but for the record, i am not one of these people. please, for the love of god, i am asking this genuinely do NOT come into my DMs about this, I don't want to know. assume I'm either living in blissful ignorance or my blacklist already covers me quite nicely & i wanna keep it that way. i vastly prefer the discomfort of stumbling into something unprepared and deciding what to do about it on my own, to the utter pit of dread i get whenever i open a message that starts with "hey just so you know-". i have blocked multiple people in the past over it. i WILL block more. be warned.
