I prepped the elbows of my favorite sweater for mending before my flight to PDX. I outlined the word area with chalk while wearing the sweater then basted the outline onto the sleeve.
Duplicate stitching with my red yarn. It matches the biscoff cookies.

Arrival at CLT. A very cute waiter asked me about the patches while I was waiting for my connecting flight.

Finished mid flight. Time to nap.

More darning, as I finally managed to deal with the hole I made in these whilst on holiday (caught them on a sharp piece of metal at the edge of a horse and cart) and then found some issues at the gusset seams.
This pair of lightweight cotton harem trousers now have three darns in them some more obvious than others, but I love them far too much to do anything but keep wearing them in the summer (roll on the hot weather please!!!)

You are caught between all that was and all that must be. You feel lost. Mark my words: as soon as the bones mend, you will forget about the fracture.

Quote
This year, mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a letter. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Keep a promise. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Apologize. Try to understand. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Be kind. Be gentle. Laugh a little more. Express your gratitude. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love and then speak it again.

Obligatory Jaime x Brienne Fic Exchange Reveal Post
Hi. I wrote 4 chapters of a fic I’ve been meaning to write for a while, realised I wasn’t going to finish it in time, and then banged out a one-shot based on an idea by beta extraordinaire (and fic exchange wrangler!) @firesign23. Many thanks also to @it-may-be-dull-but-im-determined for reading these stories in their various forms and giving me countless sanity checks!
Here are my gifts for @im-auntie-social:
Mend
Rating: T | Word Count: 6,103 (so far) | Chapters: 4/10 Tags: Alternate Universe - Science Fiction, Mundane Science Fiction, Artificial Intelligence, Robot/Human Relationships
Summary:
Tarth Repairs, declares the unassuming hand-painted sign across her shopfront, and a smaller neon sign that lights up at night. Its flickering glow, so different from the other ageing holographic displays on the outer edges of Cobbler’s Square, illuminates the tagline: “We can fix anything”.
Guaranteed Perfection
Rating: T | Word Count: 2,868 | Chapters: 1/1 Tags: Alternate Universe - Wedding Planner, Alternate Universe - Time Travel, Bickering
Summary:
Oathkeeper had a reputation for making every couple’s dream wedding come true. It was the company’s promise: Guaranteed Perfection.
But nothing was going to save this wedding. Not even time travel.

"The poet, when effective, is not merely a writer of words, but a cultural worker—a healer who uses the alchemy of language to mend the broken and bind the wounds of our collective spirit. The poet is a conductor and conduit of a world that begs us to see and celebrate our profound relationship to it. We are more than literature; we are cultural translators, humble prophets, communal visionaries. We are stewards and servants of humanity and emotion, dreamers and realists inseparably entwined.”
--Bobby Lefebre, former poet laureate of Colorado

Learning to mend thigh rips! The thread doesn’t match well, and it no longer stretches, but it’s wearable again! And I learned quite a bit. I need to patch up the other side and then they’re good to go. Dragged these 10 year old jeans for the grave once more.

Hi, I was wondering where you get all your beautiful linen clothes and aprons. Do you make them all yourself or is there a place where you buy them from? - lilliesinwhite
I’m a little flattered by this question, just because the clothes I wear are actually pretty standard and widely available, I just really like to layer and accessorize and turn them into something new! I’m not too good at sewing yet, and money is scarce, so a lot of dresses I absolutely love just sit in my Etsy cart untouched. just about everything I wear is secondhand, with the occasional item gifted to me new. a lot of what I wear are common, relatively inexpensive brands (target & old navy, for example - either thrifted or from the clearance sections) which I might decide to wear a denim skirt over to bring in the waist, or if it’s a long sleeved dress I might layer it with a sleeveless one, or wear one of my son’s swaddles around my shoulders! in general I’m not a fan of fast fashion, but I also have to recognize that durable, long-lasting, sustainably made clothes aren’t always accessible or affordable. whenever something is bought new (either by me or for me) I make sure to get as much use of it as I can, and either passing it on when I can’t wear it anymore, or giving it a second or third or fourth life by turning it into something else. rags, patches, dolls, the possibilities are endless! do I still dream of those dresses in my Etsy cart? yes. but I feel like I’m making do, and picking out what I’m going to wear has become sort of exciting.
as far as my aprons go, I have been thinking about making a post introducing each one, where it came from, and what I use it for, because some of them are from Etsy and some are just common kitchen or garden aprons you’d see in a shop! I think all of my aprons have been gifts over the years, as I’ve been fortunate to have family members whose love languages are gift giving and they really pay attention to what will bring me joy. they all have different features and things I like to use them for, so hopefully soon I’ll get my act together and share a bit about those individually ☺️
in short, my clothes are from all over but nowhere very far. I’m just mixing and matching until I find a combination I like!
oh my gosh I almost forgot nightgowns. MOST of what I wear from fall to spring are just nightgowns 😅
photo: mirror selfie of a tall white woman with shoulder length brown hair and a red face mask. she is wearing a long-sleeves white and pink flannel nightgown underneath a short-sleeved light pink cotton gauze dress from Target, and a pink swaddle blanket is folded into a triangle and tied around her shoulders in the front. she is also wearing burgundy boots.

Hey people that are into mending / can mend.
I have two store bought (knitted) cardigans and they are a couple years old, but I still like them, but their elbows are all worn out and fucked up.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it?
I’d be down for visible mending with some heart patches or something but also invisible. I just don’t know how and have no idea where and how to start.
I can embroider, I can crochet, can hand sew well enough and when push comes to shove I could knit if needed.
I’d be very happy for suggestions or Smth thankssssss
