to hold a grudge
when: may 1st, 2021
where: vixen london
The heaviness of the day was starting to carry her like a rock in a thin pocket, her steps were languid, hesitant, the look on her face distant if not detached from her current time and place. Charlene Hathaway was inside her office, toying with little napkins with numbers scribbled on them, one or two blouses left behind with lipstick stains on the collar, and just the faintest scent of other women’s perfume lingering on the walls, lingering on her hands, lingering on her mind. There was just a tad of nostalgia in that forsaken place, everything she owned at the original Vixen she had brought along, in hopes they would be of use, here, even if just as remembrances; it was clear they worked for little, now.
She chuckled at the sight of her old desk. Charlie had made out with a good share of people on top of it, mostly men, but she was not about to act like she was trying to hide anything pertaining to her. Not if it had to do with her own soul, the one thing she was clinging to now, that everything was so different.
Charlene Hathaway, half of Vixen, and a whole lot of herself. Leaving. This was laugh-worthy.
While, of course, it wouldn’t be a total dismiss on her behalf, her presence at Vixen was starting to dwindle, slowly melting into a whole new role for her to play; the one of a helpful onlooker rather than a visionary. It was fine, she and Cecelia were coming to terms about it, they would be fine. But it still hurt her to admit it. She was a proud woman, after all, that’s why she hadn’t told a soul yet of her departure, and everything that was to come. She would still be important around here, but she knew nothing would ever be the same.
That’s kind of why she got caught off guard the second she saw a faint slowly coming from around the corner. In comes Sofie, their ruby, looking for Cecelia, probably, She sighed, and kicked the box she was filling up with little memories right under her desk.
“Looking for someone?” she chided with a smile, “Cece went home about an hour ago.”
