I'm not big on "Medic Coding that kicks in when medic sees an injury, urging them to fix it and making them uncomfortable if they don't" because . . . first, it seems detrimental to actually working in a hospital, and second, are all professions like this? Like, do accountant-bots have Accountant Coding urging them to do math at all times?
That said, I think there are some interesting concepts that could be drawn from that well since the Functionist government presumably created that coding.
Medic Coding that gives the medic the subconscious urge to prioritize repairs on higher-caste bots over low-caste bots
Medic Coding that causes the medic minor discomfort if they "waste" resources like painkillers on "undesirables"
Medic Coding that makes the medic's hands lock up if they try to repair a victim of empurata
Imagine Ratchet gritting his teeth all day long at his Dead End clinic, tormented by the tyranny of his coding, yet persevering.

there's always a healthy dose of fear to the hands of a medic. do what you can and know every step can ruin what life they have left; your hands are stained with blood that isn't yours and somehow that's worse; there's a cruelty to modern medicine and it's in the anesthetics and needles and the poker you've got in the fire, just in case; you can help, but honey, it'll hurt before it heals.

Meet Desmond Doss, a soldier from the United States who fought in WW2, becoming famous for his pacifism during the war.
Desmond Doss counted as a conscientious objector, meaning someone who refuses to join the military or bear arms in the name of their conscience and own morals. It is most usually someone who doesn't want to hurt others.
For Desmond Doss this was because of his religion, a subgroup of Christianity known as the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which pursued pacifism.
Normally the United States would send conscientious objectors straight to jail, but there was a law covering an exemption for religious beliefs.
Desmond Doss became a medic instead, but was bullied by his fellow soldiers ruthlessly, especially for his diet which was also different due to his religion.
In the end Desmond Doss would be deployed in Japanese territory, and become a famous medic. The soldiers who hated him got over it after he saved their lives. His actions at hacksaw ridge were most famous.
He saved 75 men at hacksaw ridge alone, using a makeshift pully and gurney system, despite being shot four times while doing so.
Desmond Doss was awarded many medals, and lived to be 87, passing in 2006.

medics at shifa hospital: don't bother yourself. it is ending. total collapse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
reminder that shifa hospital is the biggest hospital in gaza. there are thousands of injured people inside and around it + people who have no other shelter after their homes were bombed are also taking shelter in the hospital.
israel has been threatening to bomb shifa hospital by saying hamas has its hq underneath the hospital. several doctors, palestinian + foreigners who volunteered there, have repeatedly denied this and appealed to the world to ensure israel does not bomb the hospital. israeli doctors signed a petition asking the idf to bomb all hospitals in gaza.
israel has already bombed buildings in the vicinity of the hospital. israel has already bombed a cancer hospital, a children's hospital, and the baptist hospital in the gaza strip.

Whump Prompt #938
Give me medics who are also friends with the whumpee instead of just portraying them as objects to get them to the infirmary. Give me shaking, gloved hands as they administer adrenaline, hushed words and worried eyes. Give me gentle apologies and ‘fast tracking’ their treatment. Give me the team wheeling them in, simply stating “It’s [whumpee]” at which the doctors jump into a frenzy to save their friend.

this is from april 10th but it is still relevant so i’m posting it. i cried while reading this.
it’s interesting that the U.N. is tweeting about this genocide but not actually doing anything about it. but we’re supposed to trust them and depend on them? really?

9/11 - Tribute - 2023
It has been 22 years since the horrible day, September 11, 2001. That day when the world crashed, when the U.S. was on fire, when people were killed, safety seemed to be an illusion, when cops, fire fighters, rescuers, medics and every first helper were working together to help, to search, to rescue! Do you remember what I remember from that day? I remember the words “UNITED WE STAND”. I…

Preventing Burnout while working in the NHS
Burnout is one of the most common health problems in the NHS workforce, leading to decreased productivity and decreased satisfaction with one's job.The life of a Doctor within the NHS can be quite hectic and full of challenges. It’s important to take a step back, and find ways to prevent burnout from happening. I believe if things continue on this trajectory, more healthcare workers will just quit or move to different countries. For those of us who can’t just decide leave the country due to multiple factors and don’t wish to quit practising medicine because it’s their passion in life, then the best we can do is try to evolve and make the best out of a non ideal situation, “When life throws you a rainy day, play in the puddle”.
Here a few steps that can be taken:
- Take time for yourself every day to relax and de-stress.
- Refrain from working overtime or going beyond your usual work hours.
- Get enough rest and sleep. Don’t underestimate the power of sleep.
- Talk to your supervisor or HR manager to let them know how you're feeling and what improvements you would like to see made. Change won’t happen unless we all communicate with each other.
Open to more suggestions and ideas regarding this topic!
