a while back I wrote a fanfic of an AU where Kate and Ella live in Selkirk, and it's genuinely one of my favorite pieces of fanfiction I've written in my life.

So... I decided I'll continue this AU, with more works!! But this means the AU needs a name, and some designs...

So... meet Kate, in my Selkirk Switch AU! what an original name....../s

She's a young woman who recently moved into Selkirk, giving up her life in the big city for some peace and solitude in a farm she managed to buy. There, she meets Ella, and, well, you know the story. Kate is a lesbian, and a cis girl, and forgot to put it there, but she's ace, personal headcanons :)

✨Selkie Mav✨

The transition from seal to human can be disturbing to see with all the bones and body parts rearranging, and the blood shed when the pelt is taken off. It's usually a painless process done always in the water if only to wash off the blood from the human skin so it won't arise suspicion (the seal skin is cleaned too usually but leaving it bloody won't make a difference when shifting back)

The blood comes from the pelt attaching via tiny blood vessels that connect and disconnect whenever a shifting happens. The bleeding is minimum and totally benign unless there's a problem during the change, which could lead to a serious hemorrhage.

It's a acrylic paint on a 24x30cm flat canvas. The fur is texture paste ✌🏼

there’s probably already a fic like this but i need 15 where they’re at the conservatory ball and lady danbury is looking for where anthony ran off to so she can introduce him to the sharma family and she spots him through the window in the ballroom and whoops who’s that he’s speaking to?

anyway she goes outside and hears his “so you find my smiling pleasing?” comment and right when kate goes to leave, lady danbury comes around the bend of the bush and is like “well miss sharma, i see you’ve made your own introduction to lord bridgerton”

let the chaos ensue in which kate does all to discourage his pursuit of edwina while lady danbury does all to push him and kate together instead and it’s like a three way battle of wills lol

part of me wants to be like ‘lady danbury forces them to get married because of them being alone at the conservatory ball’ but i think she’d give anthony a few warning shots with her cane in reality and a lecture about propriety with a warning that the next time is marriage

Wake up, I’ve been brainrotting over the civvie au (with healthy enablement from @alexgalaxyboo) and I’m here to share some thoughts.

Here’s some of the groundwork and some who will be here and how they get introduced:

Price, late-thirties, decides he’s tired of the city and wants to move into a quieter neighborhood. He can work remotely and doesn’t have any real ties or reasons to stay in the city so he doesn’t.

The house he purchases is a shabby thing at the corner of the street. His neighbors are the Laswells, Kate the American and her British wife, along with Kate’s nephew, Alex Keller.

Their houses are a little closer than standardly comfortable. But there is a large oak tree between them (remember that, it’s vitally important later on) that shadows and gives them a bit of privacy.

The neighborhood is friendly enough with each other, but they’re not like a community. Which suits Price fine because he isn’t there to make friends; he just wants some quiet. But the Laswells see this man move in next door, alone, and adopt him. They check up on him regularly, invite him over for tea, and bake and cook for him occasionally.

And it’s good for several years, this little life. But Price didn’t account for the loneliness he would start to feel. So, because of the heart he has and the fact he always wanted to be a father, he signs up to foster kids.

Soap and Gaz, who are about 10 and 9 respectively, are two halves of a pair. (I’m not sure yet why they’re in the foster care system but that’s where they are.) The system has tried to separate them, but Soap is crazy and does all kinds of wild shit any time Gaz is taken away from him, like setting things on fire or running away.

Chaos Incarnate and his Accomplice get assigned to Price, who is nervous at first because of what he’s heard, but this man (in every universe it’s a Constant) can and will adopt and wrangle these boys with his firm father hand and his depthless love.

The fact that Alex Keller, who is Soap’s age, lives next door has nothing to do with why Soap behaves. It’s totally not because Gaz has a crush on the American boy and asks Soap to behave so they can stay. (I’m lying to you.)

But it’s not just that. Soap and Gaz fit in really well with Price. They like him, he likes them. They make a good family. So, after having them for a time, he starts the process of legal adoption. They’re about 12 and 11 when they legally becomes Price’s sons.

Some months later, the Riley family moves into the neighborhood, bringing with them another boy their age. Simon is about 13 and is immediately welcomed into their merry little band of preteens. Which he joins, because he takes any opportunity to be away from his father.

Time passes. The boys are getting bigger and stronger. They play rough, and sometimes do it inside despite Price’s insistent that they don’t. Soap accidentally puts his shoulder through the wall while trying to evade capture. Insert Nik, the big Russian carpenter/repairman who Soap and Gaz immediately decide will be their second dad.

I fucking love this AU and I have been thinking more on writing a fic for it, but due to my inability to even work on preexisting fics (COD and other fandoms), it won’t happen quite yet. I’m keeping track of things mentioned in the posts I’ve made that are a definite thing, such as everyone’s roles and such.

Yes Farah exists. Though I have been debating on her role in the AU. I’ve mostly made up my mind but I’m going to give it a moment before I make it official (as in pretty soon I’m introducing her as I’ve planned unless something changes my mind).

Laswell does come around eventually. Her and Nik have history and she hasn’t been able to let things go, or has she been around to see that he has changed and isn’t who he was. He became her contact to help smooth things over but that progress has been halted due to him getting close with Price.

König’s role in the AU is mostly undecided even though one post I made mentioned him, I’m not sure if I want to keep it that way. Whether or not Horangi ends up in a relationship with him is undecided at the moment.

Okay but imagine Neddy growing his hair out like Miles and then they think it’s funny to dress in each other’s clothes and trick their parents into mistaking them for one another.

“Neddy!” Kate called out as she pulled her shoes on. “Come on, Sweetheart. We need to go.”

“Coming, Amma!”

Footsteps thundered down the stairs and one of the boys appeared in front of her, dressed in Neddy’s clothes right down to his shoes. But Kate could have sworn, the slight unevenness of his smile was all Miles.

“Milo, is Neddy actually with Daddy? Picking up your glasses?”

The boy shook his head, grinning, “Mummy, I’m Neddy. Don’t be silly.”

Kate narrowed her eyes, “I don’t think you are Neddy though. You’re Milo.”

“I’m Neddy!”

And just that moment Anthony burst open the front door their other son under his arm, the boy giggling wildly. Anthony sighed red faced, “This is Neddy. He thought it was hilarious to yell out I can’t see anything! When he put on Miles’ glasses.”

“I knew it!” Kate hissed as the boys ran off with a Hugh-five. “Neddy I still need to take you to- Bugger it, I’ll take them both to buy new shoes. They get this from your side of the family!”

“Mine?!” Anthony scoffed, “This is directly from Edwina I’m sure of it! And it was your egg that divided like a lunatic!”

“Don’t blame my egg!”

“It was!”

Kate pulled him in for a quick kiss. “Love you.”

“Love you too.”

“Boys! Let’s put our own clothes on please!”
