Finished playing Fallen Hero: Retribution and as expected it wrecked me emotionally 😭 The Herald/Charge drama I cornered myself into! The revelation! The all too many webs to untangle in book three! I'm pretty sure Eden is different in my ending and i can't wait to learn more! But knowing Charge got caught up with his own theory cracks me up. The whole sequence was so comedic up until that happened. THANK YOU DEITIES OF FICTION FOR GIVING US THIS SERIES!

i imagine the filming of the bj scene quite funny for Edmar, like Edvin sitting on the floor as they just needed the shot of his hand, and omar has to look all sexed up while Edvin is teasing him, we will never know 😂 orrr maybe they did other shots too where but i don't think they would go even more explicit as the riding and s behind w scene was already very telling

I think it was a closed set with only minimum of people and IC Malin was clearly on set too. As Omar said these scenes are highly choreographed and more technical than anything else. It takes a huge amount of professionalism and comfort to shoot a sex scene. But it takes more to deliver the choir practice kiss scene as it is filled to the brim with sensuality and incredible sexual tension. How you can put that kind of chemistry on screen is beyond me.

Sorry for the rant but the „quite funny for Edmar“ rubbed me the wrong way.

[Cleaned up a little night rant turned essay and reposting]

God, just rewatching ep 2 and it´s so crazy to see the difference in power Wille can wield around school compared to the court, like making August call him Crown Prince, and challenge him whenever he pleases, while the larger institution of the royal family represented by Jan-Olof can just move in from one moment to the next and physically take him out of school. (The way the headmistress just says goodbye to him at the start, like it´s a decided fact while Wille doesn´t even know what´s happening yet.. wow.)

(It´s also quiete unnerving to see how Jan-Olof continues to correctly address Wille with his title while mercilessly ordering him to get ready to leave or bluntly tell him he can´t just issue threats. How Jan-Olof politely asks Malin if she could please... not even saying the actual words, but let´s close the door so nobody sees.

How cold the court seems, cruel behind that appearance of meaningless politeness.)

The absolute shock value that has, to see Wille so powerless, after what we´ve seen him do to August up to this point. And to realize that that´s what they want Wille to know and feel, too.

Sure, he prevails and stays, but they demonstrate to him they absolutely can and will do this to him. That his presence at school, where his life is, is fragile. That there is no regard for his autonomy whatsoever. At the beginning of ep 2 that´s now an established truth. He´s nothing in the big machine but a cog that has to do its job or otherwise be removed or hammered into shape, and they make it clear to him in a way that I can´t even imagine experiencing as a 16-yr-old kid and then just continue interacting on a semi-functional level with your family.

(And you´re also made aware Wille´s power over August that´s been so satisfying to watch means nothing in the big picture since August is himself just another cog in that big machine.)

But that´s not even all. Because then the phone call happens and the machine shifts into next gear.

Jan-Olof tells him (orders him) to talk to his mom (no, the queen) and you might wonder if it wasn´t the plan all along to just scare Wille into submission. And then you realize, yeah, that was probably the plan.

Because the way the queen then talks to him in that phone call, absolutely unaffected, sounds an awful lot like she´s gaslighting Wille into making him feel unreasonable: After all, he´d issued the threat against the court, so naturally this would be the consequence.

Wille, meanwhile, is literally sitting on the floor after having been tackled by Malin, holding shards of glass in his hand, and visibly numb.

And his mom, the queen, tells him matter-of-factly that Wille fully well knows "Jan-Olof is only called in when it´s absolutely necessary", so he did this to himself.

The sympathetic tone of her voice is making me nauseous and almost scared for Wille there.

The way she effortlessly moves from soft, apparent understanding of his grief that she suddenly brings up (after he just flashed back to a memory with Erik and in the remaining sharp fragments of which he´s now sitting) and implies what was just done to him moments earlier was a result of his grieving, a punishment he must receive for acting out, which he is surely just doing out of grief and no other reason, is just masterful and chilling.

Again, the levels of manipulation, of first telling him what he feels and then suggesting that his action must be from those feelings and also that he has now been punished for them are stunning.

Then the queen has the audacity to tell Wille his parents love him for who he is. The queen is conducting this phone call while on a plane, doing business. This phone call is business.

She is telling Wille she wants him to be able to come out on his own terms, and I´m getting whiplash from listening to her saying he´s not mature enough for that, after she almost had him, this, her 16-yr-old kid physically dragged from school.

She tells him that he has to manage his outbursts after the (controlled, deliberate) outburst we just watched being afflicted on him. Oh, and whoever they choose to let into the machine (Simon) must of course also accept the way things are handled, and submit. All of this is said in a parental soothing voice.

Then the queen adds it would have been "misconduct" if she "didn´t act" after what Wille said, directly telling her son that all of what just happened was her. And again making it sound like she didn´t have a choice because of his behaviour.

This scene is unbelievable on rewatching.

The way they then start to negotiate. Negotiate. Making it even more obvious this was a game move to make Wille do what she wants.

But also, and I´m just realizing more things as I write, it doesn´t even seem hard or unnatural for the queen, just like the whole interaction hasn´t been, nor unusual for them to get to this point of where they negotiate.

Wille seems to fall into the dynamic naturally, too, as numb as he is.

So much of this scene looks and sounds like internalized, normal behaviour on the queen´s part just because of the easy flow of it. And Wille has been subjected to it his whole life. There is NEVER going to be a separation of queen and mom no matter how much Wille pleads for there to be. Because clearly, those are not separate entities that exist in the queen.

(Jesus, Wille, how are you even semi-normal? My gratitude for Boris is growing by the minute and I was already so happy about the therapy. The fact that the queen honestly wants Wille to go to therapy, too, fits the idea that this was her natural response and she wasn´t being extra cruel in any of this interaction. Or maybe it just doesn´t even matter. There are no separating lines anyway.)

By the end of the scene you´ve come to the painful realization that the court=the queen, and this season are not playing around getting their messages across, and it´s honestly brutal to watch. I know I didn´t even fully took all of this in on my first viewing.

But now, rewatching it again and seeing Wille by the end of that phone call negotiate with his mom for his life and level of participation in his role as he´s sitting on the floor in that glass and holding on to the shards and poking at them defiantly, and seeing the queen roll her eyes as she hangs up, hits you with the power of an anvil after already breaking your heart, and I´m kind of in shock.

Talking to Dani (@the-navistar-carol) as a beta reader and talking to Dani as a friend is so different and so much the same. It's baffling.

Because Beta Dani is a poet. A wonderful writer. Will suggest clock metaphors that make people swoon. Will look up 30 different poker hands to make my whole poker rant more cohesive and will tell me straight up, "hey this thing you wrote doesn't make any fucking sense."

I’ve just noticed how Simon’s plate is completely untouched. It’s placed as far away from him as it could possibly go. Contrast this with Rosh and Ayub, who are both close to their plates and glasses, and it’s clear that they’ve had something to eat and drink.

Maybe Rosh started eating a satsuma to see if it’d entice Simon into eating one too? There’s an unpeeled one on table.

The thing is Simon must be starving. Last time we see him having food is when he’s at the dinning hall in episode 5.  But, quite unlike what we’ve seen with Simon before (did they have to feed Omar in between takes?) we don’t actually see him eat anything. This is even more highlighted in the scene by everyone else at the table seemly playing with the food while he stares into nothing.

Heavy is the head:The Crown and Young Royals

PSA: Any mentions of Queen Elizabeth and other members of the BRF in this post refer exclusively to their fictional characters in The Crown and not the actual people. I’m not a real PPO and I don’t know these people.

As a fan of both shows, I’ve always felt that Young Royals borrowed a lot from Queen Elizabeth’s characterization in The Crown for Kristina’s character. After rewatching a few scenes from The Crown, not only am I convinced that this is the case, but that I also wanted to compare how these two shows represent monarchy. 

One of the central themes of The Crown is the idea that ‘heavy is the head that holds the crown. In order to be Queen, Elizabeth has to sacrifice herself. This is explicitly stated by Elizabeth’s grandmother in a letter she sends the new Queen after her father’s death in the first season:

August Quotes the Godfather: betrayal, vengeance, and loneliness

I’ve always just slightly annoyed at August saying this, whenever someone asks why the Erikssons  are at the party : 

And yes, I know 80% of the things he says are slightly annoying and goddamn Malte for his excellent delivery of the shittiest comments. 

But still, he’s quoting the Godfather at a Gen Z High School party. Of course,  ‘Keep your friends close but your enemies closer’ is now  just a phrase people say, often with no connection to the film that made it popular. 

 But the fact he’s specifically saying it in English makes me think that August was intentionally quoting the film. And it makes sense that he’d know this films enough to reference them. The protagonist is a sly, attractive man, wealthy enough to disregard the law, all while wearing a stylishly pulled-back hairdo  These films are the stories of  rich men, who control everyone and everything around them. Men who make offers that cannot be refused. Men whose pulse doesn’t shake if they have to avenge their father or kill the brother that betrayed him. Female character are either objects of desire or victims of violence, with little to no agency. 

 August quoting this is telling us, the audience, that he’s the kind of person that values and admires this kind of film. But also that to a certain degree that he wants the people around him to know that of him. He knows these movies, and wants to be perceived as someone similar to its leads not just by quoting the film, but by claiming to adopt one of its most famous tenets. 

 We as the audience also know that  this is a performance for him . August didn’t invite Simon and Sara  so he could ‘keep his enemies closer’. His motivation for lying here is strange to me. Yes, Simon is someone he considers below him, but having Simon get him booze from outside is not something that preposterous. It’s even something that another character suggests. But August had asked Simon that favour out of desperation, because he had no way out. I think his unwillingness to admit that is telling about how much August values his perceived power and ability to get what he wants. We also see how meticulous he can be about maintaining it. 

But I think this quote is also a foreshadowing for what’s to come for August. The quote is something Michael Corleone says in Godfather II, a film that examines the rise and downfall of the Corleone family. Betrayal and revenge are some of the key themes of this story. Michael is betrayed by some of the most important people in his life.  The biggest betrayal of all is his brother Fredo’s.

Rant abt this fic i'm reading on Wattpad

ok so I think Danielle, while she had her reasons to leave Malin to fight alone on the battlefield in Royal Blood, was kinda wrong in doing so, even though from her PoV it's understandable.

Like, first of all, she is the true heir to the throne. Malin doesn't even want the throne in book 2 because she thinks she's not worthy of it. She's willing to give up the throne to Dani who will definitely lift the people of Vitalis out of the misery cause by Sibil, who isn't a threat anymore due to his insanity. However, instead of doing the leadership shit her parents raised her to do and saving the people of Vitalis from dying due to wars, famines and mass executions, she makes it all about herself and leaves them all to fucking DIE while she lives her best life in Credia, immediately making her unworthy of the throne. In that moment, Malin became the better choice for Queen of Vitalis.

Also, the 'leaving your cousin to die on the battlefield because she didn't speak up about her Abusive, Manipulative and Downright CRAZY father (who held her mother HOSTAGE at the time) for KILLING HIS BROTHER AND BECOMING KING',,,,,,, doesn't fucking feel right to me. Oh, and BTW, They were BOTH 13 fucking years old. Dani, you expect an abused 13 yr old who doesn't know Royal shit to understand what her father did and make a choice between him killing her mother and her speaking up and getting them both killed?? Also you kinda made the same choice and left your family to die too.

ALSO Malin was never malicious. Sure, she was an asshole, but she helped you find Isabelle and helped you kill Sibil and Grimwald, and how do you thank her????? Tf? I think Dani and Malin are the same levels of entitled except at least Malin recognizes it.

In short, Dani you better fucking apologize and stop being an asshole.

Aroace community I need your help representing us!

I'm a film student in my final year of college, and I'm working on some pretty big projects that I want to use to represent some communities that I'm a part of.

The main character of my final short film is aroace, and I'm currently scripting all the details out now. The issue is, I really can't figure out how to write the ending without seeming corny as hell.

I refuse to take the "she ends up with someone at the end" route, because that's the whole stereotype I'm trying to comment on and avoid. I just can't find a way to end the film with her confident in her aroace identity, without her sounding like that "no thanks, I choose my own destiny" meme. I also don't want to pull the whole "friendship was the love she needed all along, because god forbid she be loveless", because I feel like that would be just as harmful.

I am aroace myself, but I'm at a loss of how to do my community justice, while also showing some evolution in character, while also making sure my script doesn't sound like that of a 2012 Disney film.

I love the show and no one I know has watched it so this is just my little rant

That initiation hazing in episode 1 was bad. He was crawling like a dog with a rope around his neck and forced to drink a cup with everyone’s spit. It’s not funny unless all parties are laughing

Wilhelm’s best look was in episode 2 between 2:41-3:44

The Erik&Wilhelm and Simon&Sara sibling relationships are/were fantastic and I wish for more

The fact the Wilhelm’s love language is physical touch is so wholesome and I love it

Linda, Ayub, and Rosh deserve all the credit

I actually felt bad for August. He was always a jerk but I still felt bad for him. He seems to have some form of body image problems?

I was much less tolerant of his abusive behavior after he literally filmed minors having s*x while watching through a window. Like what the heck was that. That was so messed up I can’t even explain. Why was no one concerned that they are ACTUAL children. Isn’t that illegal? I need to see some repercussions.

August also seemed jealous of Wilhelm? Not just his status but he seemed possessive of Erik. The first scenes of episode 1 and when Wille was trying to talk to Erik on the phone. And that whole rant to Felice

At the end of episode 3 when Wilhelm is talking to Simon his phone rings and he doesn’t answer. That was probably someone trying to tell him about Erik

I love the Malin the bodyguard. She only has like three scenes but I love her

Pretty sure Wilhelm has some sort of anxiety and the poor boy is alone through most of it. The chest rubbing, biting thumb, in episode 1 when he was trying to do that apology statement, the scene when he was in his room after the funeral, the beginning scene of episode 6 (that title card hurt)

I bet Wilhelm felt guilt/responsibility after Eriks death. It’s been established that Erik took his role very seriously and even told Wille in episode 1 “It’s not about you. Everything you do reflects back on our family. Stop being so selfish.” Of course these are two VERY different situations, but I’m pretty sure trauma and grief don’t care about logic. Then Erik DIED and Wilhelm lost the only other person beside Simon he can talk to. Gained the title of and responsibilities of crown prince. This kid probably is trying to uphold what his brother upheld. His mom did some major guilt tripping too

Watching Felice gain confidence in herself was amazing

Watching Sara lose herself to all the social status and pressures was not amazing

Simon and Wilhelm are doing their best with what they have and I respect them both

It can’t end like this. I need a season two. I’m going to freak out if it doesn’t get renewed

In an effort to get Netflix to renew Young Royals for a season 2, 3, etc I’ve been watching it on repeat. Here’s where I’ve left ratings/likes. If you know anywhere else I’ll go there too

“I’d like to see you try.” Nico smiled, his large hand crawling up one of the legs that rested in his lap. 

“I will find a way to hurt you.” Marie wrapped the fingers of both her hands around his wrist, muscles in her arms straining as she tried to stop its ascent up her thigh. “Nic if you tickle me one more time I swear…” 

Nico’s only response was one eyebrow cocked above his smirk. 

“Nosexforaweek!” The words flew out of her mouth so quickly they became one. 

His fingers froze just as they had started to squeeze, a look of disgust flashing across his features. “That’s not playing fair.” 

“Like it was really fair before?” She laughed, falling back against the couch’s arm. His hand flattened against her thigh, rubbing small circles against the fabric of her fatigues. The observation deck was mostly empty at this time and Marie was enjoying the feel of his hands and the quiet. 

That quiet was interrupted by an exaggerated, heavy sigh and the thump of a heavy body dropping onto the couch opposite them. “Kill me.” 

“If I could kill any of you, Nico would probably be dead by now. Definitely Sinclair. Not Scooter. Not Maddox either...” 

“Wow Ajax lives and I die.” Nico shook his head in mock disappointment. “I would be offended if I wasn’t already used to this abuse.” 

Marie smiled, lifting herself into a sitting position and looped her arm through his. “I said probably, babe. There’s still a chance for you. What’s wrong Mase. No wait, don’t tell me. You need to get laid.” 

“Tell me something I don’t know Rie.” 

“I know how your kind are, ” she continued, waggling a finger between Nico and Mason. “Firsthand. In - fucking - satiable.” 

“Okay. I get it.” 

“I have a sore jaw so much I’ll probably develop TMJ…” 

“Marie.” 

She smiled with Nico’s chuckle. “Okay. I’m sorry I have to be serious all day so I had to get it all out before I go back up to the deck. What’s wrong, really?” 

“I need to get laid.” He smiled when they both laughed, until it dropped with another sigh. “And also Ajax.” Mason rose on his elbows to look at Marie seriously. “How do you do it?” 

“Do what?” 

“Deal with him.” 

“Okay, you did not just say that to me.” She huffed out a humorless breath and slowly untangled herself from Nico, scooting to the edge of the couch. She blinked slowly, and when they opened to look directly into the green ones across from her, they were on fire. 

“I don’t deal with him, Mason.” She was glad her tone made him slightly draw back. It was the best she could hope for since punching him was out of the question. “That’s your problem, right there. You think you have to deal with him. Instead of, oh I don’t know, maybe trying to find a way to connect with him.” 

“It’s not that easy Marie.” 

“Bullshit. Let me ask you a question Mase. Have you ever tried?” 

“He makes that impossible.” 

“That’s not what I asked.” 

“I’m sure I did when he first arrived at the station.” 

“Also bullshit. You saw him as nothing more than a replacement. And that’s as far as you ever got.” 

Mason sat up at that, looking at Nico. She understood his surprise, even she was still getting used to her boyfriend actually telling her things from his past. “He came at us right out of the gate Marie. You don’t understand.” 

“So a wounded animal gets dropped into an entirely different pack, you think it’s going to be happy-go-lucky or do you think it’s going to try to survive?”

“The pack wasn’t exactly welcoming, either.” Nico gave a sorry-but-true shrug of his broad shoulders. 

“People change Mase. They grow.” Her voice was getting shaky with the emotion in her throat and she hated that, but loved the hand that was rubbing her back. “I’m so sick of people not even giving him a fucking chance. You gave him an impossible handicap before he even started the race and now you wonder why he’s never catching up. It’s not fair to him.” 

Mason’s eyes were on the floor but she knew him well enough to recognize the stubborn set of his jaw, so she continued. 

“That’s another problem.” She poked a finger into his knee, the closest body part she could reach. “You expect everyone else to come to your level, yet you don’t even throw out a ladder. A rope. Something. It’s not just with Maddox. I’ve seen it with you and Nic too. You might be surprised what you get back if you give a little.” 

She sighed, her anger fading at the hurt look in his eyes when they finally met hers and she flattened her hand onto the knee he had been poking. 

“I don’t know if you remember but, when we were kids, there was this new boy that came to our school. He was weird and handicapped, and immediately bullied. In the hallway someone had just shoved into him, knocking him down and you were the one to help him up and befriend him. And of course once everyone saw he was your friend, Mr. Popularity, they treated him like royalty. That’s the guy I fell in love with.” She reached behind her to pat Nico’s leg, feeling his glower at her back. “That’s the guy they need.” She knew she didn’t have to specify who they were. 

“Do you remember that time you asked me ‘why Ajax’ and then I got called into Captain Malin’s office and never got to answer?” 

Mason nodded and Marie sat back, pulling Nico’s arm around her and absentmindedly entwining her fingers through his. 

“Nic introduced us, and the very first thing Maddox said to me was a question. He asked me what my favorite feeling in the world is.” She laughed softly at the memory. “In the beginning I thought, what kind of person asks that instead of even a ‘hello’? Then I realized its someone who cares about the soul more than the surface. It’s funny, or fate, that the very answer I gave him, he makes me feel.” 

Mason’s tone was still hard, but the stubborn tension was gone. “What’s the feeling?” 

“Unconditional love. Being able to tell someone anything, make mistakes, be as awful as humans sometimes are, but no matter what, you know that person is still going to love one hundred percent of you. That’s rare, and that’s my favorite feeling.” 

“Look.” Marie’s tone was matter of fact, crossing one leg over the other. “ He can be an asshole. We all can. But everyone has a reason. Find his reason, acknowledge it, and knowing him, that’s probably all he wants. And if you really try and he’s still one hundred percent an unforgiving asshole, I’ll rip him a new one too. You’re not the only one that has to give a little.” 

“I have to get back to work.” Marie stood, effectively ending her rant, and rubbed at her temples. “Imagine running an entire starship being easier than dealing with Phoenix boys.” 

“Men.” Nico corrected her, and she leaned down to press her lips against his, a hand against his cheek and an I love you whispered against his mouth before standing. 

She bent to peck a kiss to Mason’s cheek. “Talk to him. He’s worth the effort.” 

“I have tried talking to him.” 

She stopped at the doorway, turning back to look at him sadly. “You haven’t talked to him, Mason. You’ve talked to his ghost.”

This year has been... a lot. It’s been ups and downs and everything inbetween. I’m walking into 2020 feeling like I should have done better but at the same time things could have been worse. I’ll be starting the new year off on a fic writing hiatus, still undetermined how long, but I would be surprised if you’ll see anything new from me during before the beginning of March.
