♡ 𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒, more specifically those with Gemini placements in their personal planets loveeeee playing around with their voice a lot. Just utilizing their voice to be a silly goobert. Like making voice impressions or funny sound effects is very natural for them. Which is why I think so many Geminis are comedians, artists and actors. Whenever I see someone who makes goofy sounds or is very into voice acting I instantly know they must be a Gemini/have heavy Mercury placements and up until now i was 100% correct each time lmao. (As someone who has Gemini placements myself: I love to make funny voices or impressions, sometimes I do it without realizing lol)

♥︎ Which actually brings my to my second point on 𝐆𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒 but those that are musicians; I noticed they frequently love to play around with different genres of music and different styles of singing/rapping in general, even all in one song simultaneously. Good example would probably be Kanye West or Kendrick Lamar. Their music and style tends to be very versatile and they tend to incorporate even very random notes/effects/sounds to it as well.

♡ Oh my goodness, all the 𝐋𝐈𝐁𝐑𝐀 𝐒𝐔𝐍𝐒 I’ve ever known have this damn thing where if you don’t ask them specifically for what you wanna know, they’ll never even tell you it. I had a friend with a full blown Libra stellium that I finally caught up with after months of no contact and this girl only told me about her having a girlfriend and getting into a car accident only 3 days later!? That was thanks to me for randomly mentioning romance and cars, otherwise she wouldn’t have even shared it. So if you wanna hear a Libra disclose something specific with you, just be direct with it.

♥︎ I haven’t met an 𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐍 that wasn’t impulsive and would jump from one relationship/project into another and then complain about how everything turns out a mess (but then get back up and repeat the cycle again smh).

♡ 𝟏𝟐 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐒 and their hidden enemies is actually very fukkin real. I got to witness it closely for the first time and oh boi am I shook lol. My boyfriend has a 12H moon and I’ve witness multiple times strangers come up to us, start a conversation and then just become insanely rude to him outta absolutely nowhere as if they been having beef with him since kindergarten?! Randoms tend to get mad or hostile so easily at him even if he doesn’t say anything bad... it’s so weird.

♥︎ Every person with an 𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 in their big 3 has this feistiness to them. Even when they’re super sweet and chill type of Aries I still notice that they have moments where they’re quite direct or don’t really care about what you think. They’re gonna say what they wanna say one way or another and it’s honestly so natural to them, I don’t think they even notice. Even the quiet Aries in my life have this demeanor to them that you just don’t fuck with because they’ll bite back at some point.

♡ In my experience, every 𝐏𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐒 that I’ve ever known always expressed their appreciation and affection in letters/poems/metaphors very frequently. Very romantic, very abstract, Shakespeare who? Every time they’d send a whole ass paragraph like 🥀”you are like a rose that fell in this chaotic ocean and turned it into a tranquil lake” 🍂 just to describe my eyes or something. I don’t think my Aquarius moon is cut for such stuff lmao, it makes me cringe a bit but I do appreciate it! Although every Pisces mars guy I ever knew had additional water placements in their big 3 (like Cancer sun or a Pisces moon) which probably only doubled that sentimentality they had.

Nat is called Sugar far less in season 2 than in season 1.

The nickname Sugar has a lot of significance. Firstly, it’s notable because it’s an ingredient. It’s used in the kitchen, but it has no agency in the kitchen. We see in the flashbacks in season 1 that both Carmy and Nat are not allowed in Mikey’s kitchen, but it’s in different ways. Carmy and Mikey cook together, but Carmy’s not allowed to take the final step and follow him to the Beef. Nat, however, is rejected from the cooking process altogether – she’s belittled and stopped when she tries to add raisins, her cooking isn’t right, it isn’t good enough. She’s an ingredient in the kitchen, nothing more. Similarly in the present day she at first has a similar role: she’s in Carmy’s life, she turns up at the Beef, she comes across at first as miserable and nagging (which she is, and reasonably! Her brother just killed himself! Her other brother looks like he’s headed in the same direction!). She hates the Beef and everything it stands for, so while she’s there, she takes no part in it, she refuses to engage in it, just as she is not allowed to engage in the family activity in the flashback.

(Notably, sugar as an ingredient is often dismissed as merely existing to sweeten food. However, it’s crucial for many other aspects of baked goods such as moistness, texture, and sometimes leavening. Sugar is seen by many as something to cut out, or cut down on, but it’s essential in tying together the finished product.)

Secondly, the nickname Sugar itself, we learn in season 2, comes from a place of humiliation. This information further cements the idea that Sugar doesn’t belong in the kitchen – she mixes up sugar and salt, and she’s known forever for it, she’s known forever for the fact that she can’t cook, that she doesn’t cook. Given how important food is for the Berzattos (clearly) this just serves to alienate her from the heart of the family. Calling her that is a constant reminder that she’s not part of it all in the same way her brothers are, calling her that in the present is a reminder that she’s not part of the restaurant. And when the restaurant becomes her brothers’ whole lives, she’s not allowed to be part of that either. She’s estranged when we meet her, looking in, trying to reach out but struggling to do so.

I’m pretty sure Pete never calls her Sugar, he might be the only one not to. This is because he’s an icon a legend the moment. However, side note on Pete – he does cook. In the Christmas flashback he brings tuna casserole. His cooking, however, isn’t right for the family. He was specifically told not to bring food (not to bring sustenance, not to bring care) and he does anyway! But this sustenance doesn’t fit with the rest of the family, with Donna’s expectations (and the episode is all dancing around Donna, around her dysfunction, and Pete’s steadiness and kindness doesn’t fit in a household like that), so it’s rejected. It starts to make a lot more sense why everyone hates him in season 1. Importantly also, I think, it’s tuna casserole. This dish is often maligned as bland or boring or goofy, and Pete can seem that way when compared with the high energy and intensity of the Berzattos. But it has staying power because it’s cheap and simple and it lasts, because it’s versatile, because it can be comforting. Pete isn’t a flashy character, you wonder sometimes at first why Nat married him. But he’s deeply deeply kind and comforting and steady, wholly at odds with the Berzattos and completely what Nat needs. And to him, she’s not Sugar because she’s not alienated from him.

Obviously with time and effort Nat and Carmy get closer. We find out she cosigned for the Beef, she is part of this even if she doesn’t seem to be. She gets involved more and more with the building, at first out of necessity but later out of care. Season 2 rolls around and she becomes project manager, she slowly admits she works there, she takes on more and more responsibility with it. She gets closer to the other employees, it’s clear she and Syd have a real friendship going on. She gets happier, she loves it! And I don’t have time to unpack it now but I think there’s something there about the fact that she’s pregnant and this is a family restaurant, that she gets to help make it better. If the Beef is the family, Nat gets to make it something functional. Something something breaking cycles. And as she gets closer into the kitchen (to the extent that she’s wiping plates in the last episode, she’s got an apron on, she’s literally right there in the middle of it), as she gets less alienated and more involved, she’s Nat more and more often. When she’s called Sugar in the Christmas episode it’s almost a surprise because she hasn’t been referred to by it for a while. She’s not being made fun of for her outsider status anymore, she’s being let in. She’ll never mix up sugar and salt again.

Project: crocheted top

Thanks again to everyone who gave me good crochet 101 resources last year! I've been having a blast learning how to crochet.

Introduction:

I finished this top a while ago. It's kind of improvised, containing various stitches and squares I found in library books. The yarn's a beige cotton I had in my stash.

I used this project as a challenge to try out as many different techniques and stitches I could think of, making it a great learning experience.

The project:

The shape's a very simple T-shape, with buttons at the shoulders to make it easier to slip over my head. It's basically a tube body with a rectangle at the top for sleeves.

I started out by making enough squares for the bottom lace to fit around my hips. Once those were attached together into a circle, I evened out the edge with (US) single crochet stitches while also adding a tiny bit of shaping. I then started my tube for the body, which consists of a strip of lace and a double crochet flower pattern.

Once the tube reached where I wanted the sleeves to begin, I made enough squares to fit the width of the tube plus four extra squares (one for the back and front of each sleeve). I wanted to try and see if I could turn a square into a triangle, so two of those squares ended up being triangles in the front of the top.

Once all that was attached, I built up the rest of the sleeves and the neckline and worked buttonholes into the final rows.

Conclusion:

I fell in love with the versatility of crochet! It's such a cool craft if you love improvising as much as I do.

When I struggled making my first chain a year ago, I never thought I'd be creating something like this any time soon. Now when I look at this top, I can already see multiple things I would do differently next time.

That's the beauty of learning new things. If you allow yourself the time and kindness needed to practice and to learn from your mistakes, you'd be surprised by what you can do.

Net x James: An important reminder that BL partnerships consist of two individuals and they are not just a single entity.

So the Netjames news has been a notable bombshell in the fandom of late, and I've been quietly observing this as it unfolded earlier this week, particularly the varying reactions and discourse around it.

In his statement, James explained that his current career goals are moving in a different direction, which has resulted in him pulling out of 'Love Upon a Time', and by extension his acting partnership with Net. He wants to explore his other avenues as an artist, whereas Net is presumably focused on acting for now.

With BL partnerships, we often see the two co-stars tied at the hip. Its part of the gig and it comes with the territory. They don't just work together on their project, but they do a huge amount of activity (both public and private) outside of that. They travel, perform, they do fan meets, press events, and spend a huge amount of time together as a twosome. So we get accustomed to seeing them as a united entity, which means news like this tends to hit harder because it feels akin to a divorce. This is one of the pitfalls of the Thai BL industry. When you create a narrative around two people who exclusively come as a package, it makes it incredibly difficult for both the actors themselves and fans to accept or make peace with any possible deviation from that. I think it's natural for any actor or artist to desire collaboration with different people: to develop their craft, to further their experience, to broaden their versatility. If sticking to only one working partner 'for life' doesn't work for them, I completely empathise with that.

In their recent Instagram lives, Net and James were clearly sad and their feelings still very raw. This led to a lot of speculation regarding any ill-feeling or fall out between the two. But such accusations can be harmful. Even in an amicable or mutual break-up where ending a relationship is in both parties' best interests - the two people involved are still grieving. Being brutally honest and transparent with someone close to you, that things can no longer continue as they are, isn't easy. If fans feel upset, just imagine how difficult this is on them both. When you've been nurtured as a partnership from the get go, your co-star whose always been at your side provides a sense of safety and familiarity. And the prospect of now moving forward without them is a scary new unknown. On top of that, they probably feel an immense amount of pressure and guilt in digesting the potential fallout and response from their fans. There will be trepidation in how well their careers will fare in the immediate aftermath.

Despite this, there are also positives to be taken from this decision. Arguably, Net and James were still in the early stages of their partnership. Bed Friend really put them on the map as a couple. So for James to come forward with this realisation now, before they got too established as a pairing was a responsible thing to do. I'm sure the last thing anyone wants is for their favourite artists to feel stuck or obliged to continue working together, which would undoubtedly lead to feelings of resentment eventually.

So respectfully, these instances are not to be taken personally or to be deemed as a betrayal of your support. After all, what we know of these artists is only a very small piece of their identities as people. It's okay to be devastated, but be respectful of their wishes. You can choose to continue supporting them as individuals, or choose to no longer support them at all - either way, you are perfectly valid and entitled to your choice, just extend the same courtesy back and be mindful of casting unfair judgement on their choice.

For me, it is admittedly a shame because I did see great potential in them both as a pair, and they had fantastic chemistry which could have been nurtured with more time and experience. Regardless, I truly believe they both have immense love for one another, and I wish them both the very best. They've just come to terms with the fact they no longer share the same vision for what they want in their careers. And that's okay.

(I will always be grateful that they gave us THIS iconic moment).

Whisky, gin and beer

It was always going to be about beer, too - not only whisky and gin. And it was probably designed to be a simultaneous project, that might have been postponed for various reasons: funny how all those intelligent people across the street forget everything about COVID, when it does not fit their agendas. And by COVID, I do not mean only the prolonged lockdowns, but first and foremost the worldwide logistics crisis, with compromised supply chains and overall a huge blow on the transports' sector.

In fact, looking at those trademark websites, it becomes evident that first (now abandoned) trademark application for beer was filed in at the same time as the one for whisky, on December 28, 2018:

Separate categories, as per US regulations, need separate filings, of course. And beer is a brilliant, simple idea, with high quality local ingredients (it's really barley, water, hops and yeast) relatively easy to source. Well, spare perhaps for the hops, but that is not really a problem, anymore:

As I always make a point of reminding anyone, this page does not deal in fantasy and empty, meaningless scouring of social media accounts. And cackle to your heart's content, Mordor, but S seems to have a genuine, informed interest in the industry, as shown above.

This is a different business plan and a different marketing model, based on affordable production costs and yield/volume (as compared to successive, 'limited batches' of tequila or whisky, where the accent is placed on the excellence of the product and know-how, as reflected in the final price tag). You can bottle that beer or you can sell it on tap, partnering with local bars and pubs first, then progressively extending that network. And I bet the farm it is going to be a premium, artisanal beer first, with options open for a more democratic product, once brand awareness is properly built: beer is versatile, like that.

Whisky and gin were expensive, carefully curated pet projects. Beer is a fun, easy and lucrative one, with a wider clientele and fast growing potential. And this is how that unknown, struggling Scottish actor who once was the face of Tennent's has a fair opportunity to strike it big. To be followed, which I might do. And this is also how his products could cover the entire price range, from luxury to affordable.

It is also always disheartening to see how all those bitter women congregating on certain Tumblr pages feel the need to dismiss anything he does. As I always said and I always will, many of them have no idea about the very basics of business and trade, no exposure to that world and, to be honest, no particular intellectual acuity. Plus I bet the farm many of them lie about their own circumstances: it's easy to pretend, on the Internet and always sexier (and lame, of course) to introduce yourself as a corporate whatever than a secretary. But I wonder how would they feel, in the unlikely situation they would be running their own lemonade stand, if passers by started cackling and bitching about their trade, out of the blue.

So, all in all, we seem to be dealing with some careful preparation, portfolio diversification and yes, taking much needed strides away from McGrandma. To be continued, of course...

Modern! Cult Leader! Zhongli

My first brainrot!! Or rather, the first one I'm actually writing about lol.

Ft. Modern Sagau X Nonbinary! Reader (you get called adorable once)

This brainrot takes place in a Modern! SAGAU. Where, within the state/city (haven't decided yet) of Teyvat, at Akademiya University, a young and self-absorbed Zhongli- who longs for money, violence, and fame- decides to start a cult.

He makes up this genderless god who created the universe and all life within it. He says that each planet within our solar system once had its own dominant race. That the god fell in love with one of their creations- a dragon-like harbinger of war known as Rex Lapis- and who's love was returned. That together, the pair had seven children (Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, Hydro, Pyro, and Cyro), and they were going to have another. But sadly, before they could be born, one of the planet's kings had grown jealous of their not only their love, but also their power. So, with his cunning wit, the king convinced six other planets to do a hostile takeover. One that killed both the Creator and their kids.

He says that the grieving Rex Lapis, in a blind fury, went and slaughtered every living being that had contributed to his beloved's death. When he was finally finished, he went to the only planet that hadn't betrayed his spouse (Earth), and laid down for a several-million-year depression nap. At first, the people of Earth treated him with kindness. They cleaned his body while he slept, and created various shrines around him so they would have a proper place to put their offerings. But as the years went on, the people mysteriously stopped taking care of him. And so, life began to bloom across the Rex Lapis's body, and he slowly but surely turned into a mountain.

He says that, when Rex Lapis had finally woke up, with life all across him, he didn't have the heart to move. For it reminded him of both his spouse and some of his children. And so, he used his powers to create a tiny solid projection of himself that he could act as his eyes and ears for the new world outside him. And, after getting a good look at everything, he decided to make a human form and conjure various other things he would need to disguise himself as a member of modern society. But doing so had stretched his what was left of his powers (which were weakened from years of disuse, like atrophied muscles) thin. So thin he couldn't do anything more without them breaking, and trapping himself within the mountain for who-knows how long.

This human, as you've probably guessed by now, named himself Zhongli.

Zhongli says that he felt insulted by the people for forgetting his beloved spouse, who oh so graciously gave them life. But without his powers, he couldn't seek vengeance like he wanted. So, he decided to take a more peaceful route and start spreading the gospel of his spouse and kids.

The first few members of his cult are an odd bunch. A drunk wannabe musician, a pair of abused sisters, a married lady, and more. As a reward, he gave each of them a piece of jewelry, crafted with one of his children in mind, so they could identify each other. He called these accessories 'Visions', and said that they 'revealed the mortals who see the truth'. Each vision represented a different one of his born children.

To keep his cultists where he wanted them, he created the 'creators diet', which, while being versatile, successfully damaged his servants' ability to think. He had them pray every morning, every night, and every time they faced any trouble. He had the cult move into a house located on the very mountain he claims his body is trapped under. This house, which he claims was made with power he gained from all the worshipping, is a building many family reunions were held when he was a child. One that his grandparents, who he had not talked to for years at that point, just so happened to give him before dying.

The house was fairly large. Two stories, with two rooms on the ground floor (a large living room and large dining room (with a small kitchen attached)), and eleven rooms (ten bedrooms and a communal bathroom) on the floor above. One of the ten bedrooms was a master bedroom, which he obviously had to himself. While the members spent only slept in and cleaned the house, due to the distance from the city and the fact they all had jobs, he still had them meet every Monday at noon for 'group prayer' and group sparing. During these prayer sessions, he would have his servants give nearly all of their money to him. After all; he was a dragon. And what was a dragon without treasure?

To his mild surprise, but great amusement, the cult grew very big within a few years. Too big for him to manage. So, he divided the job amongst six of the seven original members; a reward for 'enlightening' so many people. He also gave them physical rewards- another, different piece of jewelry he called gnosis, that he 'infused with his power' so that when their natural death comes, they would be able to sit beside his spouse and kids in celestia. Through them, he was able to get six different houses that his expanding cult could move into. Sadly, not everyone could move into one of the buildings. But considering the members that couldn't were all very big names within Teyvat, he was fine with making exceptions.

As the years went on, he slowly started decorating himself with various makeup and props to make himself look more dragon-like. Horns, cat-pupil eye contacts; he even went so far as to get his arms tattooed brown and gold! All to show his people "the growth of his power".

"The more acolytes I-- and my beloved, of course- gain, then more of you should be able to meet their grace when your natural death comes. Why, with enough of you, we might even be able to raise them from the dead!" <- Something Zhongli will soon regret saying on a regular basis.

Sadly, some of them meet their 'natural death's fairly soon. Like Makoto and Rukkhadevata, who had discovered the truth through his goddamn parents of all people. Of course, he killed all four, but that brought some new problems. While Makoto was easily replaced by her sister, he not only needed a replacement for Rukkhadevata, but she had a daughter that needed to be taken care of. Her father didn't know she even existed, and he feared her discovery would start an investigation into his cult. Little did he know that his murders already did.

It took him a few years to discover, but when he did, it was already too late. He, in another panic to preserve everything, killed the mole. But, worried that there was another one, he made plan and slowly acted on it over the following months. First, he had one of the archons buy him a house and faked a 'power tear' because of overusing said powers (he, before leaving, compared it to a muscle tear). Then, he had all but one of the houses change the day and time of the weekly prayer session. Finally, through his archons, he had the seven houses turned into buildings for newcomers, with the only members ever coming for the weekly prayer session (Which he also altered to be on separate days depending on the house they're in).

Don't be mistaken, he still had connections to the cult and most certainly still had control over it! He made absolutely sure of it before he left. The archons, who knew of the truth and were sworn to secrecy, regularly contacted him for guidance, prayers, and offerings. But he was now living a much more normal lifestyle. It was kind of difficult for him, to be honest. He had to wear long sleeves and gloves whenever he left the house. He had no one to talk to him, no one to clean for him, no one to cook for him… But the worst of all, in his opinion, was him having to get a job.

He can't help but be thankful for his past self's decision to complete college and get his degree, even though it had become unneeded before he had even finished school. Without it, he wouldn't be able to get a job as a funeral consultant. And, just his luck, his boss was also a member of his cult! A member of the liyue house, with a pretty little pyro vision ring worn on her ring finger of all things.

He had a difficult time hiding his laughter. Sadly, that was just about the best thing he discovered as of late. For he made a rather worrisome discovery a few months later.

When he first heard he was getting a new neighbor, he didn't think much of it. Other than anticipation for getting a new toy for him to use and abuse, of course. But then he actually saw his neighbor, and he froze for a second. A (s/t) person with the hair, eyes, and body to match his so-called beloved spouse. He cursed his past self for allowing that one geo boy draw the 'human form' of his 'beloved' for a moment. But then he took a deep breath, and went and introduced himself to you.

You- kind, sweet, and adorable you. Who's personality somehow also matches the one he made up for his 'creator'. And he silently worries as he helps you carry some boxes into your deceased grandparents house. Worries about someone from his hundred-membered cult, all of whom now having homes of their own- spotting you. If you accidentally snap his followers out of his control..! No- that can't happen. Won't happen. Not on his watch.

And my brainrot's died. Or rather, passed out, 'cause I wanna continue with this idea, but I have no idea on where to go from here. Maybe he kidnaps you. Maybe he manipulates you into becoming a recluse that only relies on him. Maybe he falls in love with you and decides to make you the vice-leader of his cult. Or maybe he falls into a delusion where you are his dead spouse.

CK's Guide to Fixing Pixelated Horse Coats

As we all know, every time you paint a horse (or any pet or werewolf, really) in Create-a-Pet, it inevitably gets pixelated. This is due to the TS4 engine's compression of Sims textures, which it does to theoretically save on file space and load time. The more you paint on your horse (and the more you save it over and over again), the greater the artifact damage becomes, until you're left with a pixelated mess.

Luckily, I've figured out a way to fix it. Yay!

This method uses a program called chaiNNER, which is an incredibly versatile node-based graphics UI that (among many other things) uses AI models to upscale and process images. After a month and a half of experimenting on multiple different types of coats with about a dozen different models, I've identified two AI models that work best at repairing the artifacting damage done by TS4: RealESRGAN_x2plus and 2xAniscale. I extract the painted coats from the tray files using Cmar's Coat Converter, process them using chaiNNER, use Photoshop to make any touch ups (softening hard edges, fixing seams, adding in the appropriate hoof texture), and then create a new hoof swatch to put the newly fixed coat back into the game.

Fair warning: chaiNNER is a bit of a hefty program that requires significant RAM and VRAM to run. If you have a beefy gaming computer, you should have no issues running this (as long as no other major programs - games, graphics programs, etc. - are running as well). If you've got a lower end computer, though, your computer might not be able to handle it and this method might not be for you. Make sure to read all the documentation on chaiNNer's github before proceeding.

Before we begin, we're going to need to gather some resources. We will need:

A graphics program. I use Photoshop, but GIMP or any other program that can work in layers will work too.

chaiNNER

AI Models; these are the ones I use are RealESRGAN_x2plus and 2xAniscale

Cmar's Coat Converter to extract the coat textures from your tray files

Tray Importer (Optionally) to isolate your household tray files and save you the trouble of searching the Tray Folder

The TS4 Horse UV as a helpful guide to make sure all our textures are lined up properly

Sims 4 Studio to create your new package.

I recommend using S4S to export hoof swatch textures from the game or from existing hoof swatch cc. Some popular hoof swatch CC include @walnuthillfarm's Striped Hooves and @pure-winter-cc's Glorious Striped Hooves

This tutorial assumes you are familiar with the basics in how to use Sims 4 Studio, such as how to clone a base-game item & how to import and export textures, and the basic functions of your graphics program, such as adding multiple different image files together as layers. I'll try to keep my explanations as straight-forward as possible.

STEP ONE: Extract the Coats

Install Cmar's Coat Converter and run it. Cmar's Coat Converter works by looking through your tray files for specific texture files (ie. The coats of cats, dogs, horses, and werewolves) and converting them to png files. You can go through the households of your Tray folder one by one, but I typically just use Tray Importer to separate the household containing the horses I want to fix.

Save the extracted coats in a project folder. These are your OG coats.

STEP TWO: Extract the hoof textures

Open up S4S. To extract the hoof swatches from the base game, create a new package by clicking CAS -> New Package, filter everything by species (ie. Horse) and then part type (Hoof color). Highlight all the basegame swatches and then save your new package.

Open up that package and then extract the texture for each swatch. Save them in your project folder (In a 'basegame hooves' folder to keep things organized).

To extract the textures from Hoof Swatch CC files, simply open them up in S4S and repeat the above.

STEP THREE: Download the AI Models

Right as it says on the tin. These are the models I use currently & some notes about them:

RealESRGAN_x2plus - this model is THE workhorse. It repairs artifact damaging with minimal loss to texture quality and results in a very smooth coat. It may sometimes darken the texture a little bit, but it's not noticeable in-game. That being said, it has a harder time with finer details such as spots, individual ticking for roans, dapples etc. I run this one first on all the coats because it usually does the job.

These models are trained to find and repair any incidence of artifacting/jpeg damage and approximate what the image is supposed to look like. The reason RealESRGAN_x2plus has an especially hard time with spots/dapples/tiny repetitive details etc. because it registers those areas as particularly damaged and works extra hard to smooth it out… which can sometimes result in a bit of an iffy coat repair. When things don't turn out the way I want, I turn to...

2xAniscale - I use this model for any appaloosas, roans, sabinos etc. that have very fine detail and came out mangled by RealESRGAN_2xPlus. It's also good for light-duty repairing (in cases where people have only 'saved' the coat once, as opposed to working on it on and off). While not strong enough on its own to tackle the more heavily damaged coats, it still does a decent job while keeping the fine details intact.

Go make a folder somewhere and name it 'AI Models' or something similar, and drop these guys in there.

STEP FOUR: Setting up chaiNNER

Obviously, go ahead and download chaiNNER, and then (through chaiNNER itself) download & install the dependencies. You really only need PyTorch for this, so if you'd like, you can skip NCNN, ONNX, and Stable Diffusion.

At first glance, chaiNNER is a bit overwhelming. It is unlike any other graphics ui I've seen before, but the basic premise is pretty straightforward: you 'chain' together specific functions ('nodes') in order to get your result.

We're going to start by setting up a chain for single coat conversions.

Drag & drop these nodes into your workspace:

Save Image

Upscale Image

Load Model (From the PyTorch tab only!)

Next, connect the nodes just as I have connected them in the image.

Load Image, obviously, loads your image. We then tell the program we want to upscale that image by linking to the Upscale Image node. Upscaling can't happen without a model, so we then want to link Upscale Image with Load Model.

Text Append takes the original name of the image and combines it with the model name. This is super helpful, because if you're playing with many models at a time, you need to tell your result images apart. Link the output text to the Save Image Model.

Finally, Save Image obviously saves the image. We link the directory from Load Image to save it in the same place as the OG image, or, optionally, add in a file path link to another folder (in my case, I load images from a folder called 'Unprocessed' and save them into a folder called 'Processed'. Link the image from Upscale Image to Save Image to complete this chain.

Go in and select your image, model, and save locations.

Ta dah! You made your first chain.

To create an Iterator to batch process coats, we follow the same general idea, only we use 'Load Images'.

STEP FIVE: Run chaiNNER

Go ahead and run chaiNNER. Repeat using 2xAniscale if your spotty/dappled coat comes out funky.

Optionally, you can also add 'Resize' between 'Upscale' and 'Save Image' so the output texture is the same size as the OG. I like keeping mine big, as it makes it easier to fix any fine details in Photoshop.

STEP SIX: Combine in Photoshop

Go ahead and open up the horse UV, your coat texture & hoof swatches in Photoshop. This is a fairly straightforward process: layer the hooves overtop the texture, and then hide all hoof layers except the one you want. Make sure everything is lined up properly using the horse UV.

This is also where you would go in and fix any sharp, jagged edges you might spot. I often notice jagged edges on white face markings. Since the head is often one of the worst areas for artifacting, the AI models don't really have much to work with, resulting in jagged edges as they try to extrapolate what had been there 'before'. Either paint over it or use blur to smooth it out.

I personally would also remove any stray color that isn't the horse texture (body + ears). It won't hurt to leave it there, but I personally like things neat and tidy. Use the horse UV as a guide.

I also add in any little details using extracted stencils & layer masks.

Save your new coat as a png. Optionally, downsize it by 50% back to the original size. I don't do this because I'm very forgetful, but this would definitely help in keeping your package size smaller.

STEP SEVEN (Optional): Make a thumbnail

I make thumbnails for all the coats I do because it makes it much easier to identify them under the Hoof Swatch category. TS4 thumbnails are 144 x 148. You can label it with your horse's name, or stick a headshot in there etc. whatever works for you that will help it stand out from the other hoof swatches.

STEP EIGHT: Put it all Together

Finally, we've come to the end.

Using S4S, create a new package cloned from a hoof swatch. Import your new coat into 'Texture', and your thumbnail into 'Thumbnail'. Make sure you import the thumbnail for both Male and Female!

Check to make sure there aren't major seams, and that your texture is properly projected onto the S4S horse model. If there are seams, go back to check that your texture is lined up properly with the Horse UV. If there are minor seams (legs, chest, underbelly etc.) you can carefully paint (using the same color as on either side of the seam) just beyond the UV mesh boundaries to close the seam.

Then, go into Categories, scroll down, and uncheck Random. This will prevent random townie horses from wearing the coat.

Save your package.
