Ok, so it took me a while to think this over, because there’s a lot here, and then talking it over with @demoiselledefortune I realized there’s even more than I thought! (still thinking about the genderswap jc one)

Also, poor, poor LWJ. 🙁 (LQR doesn't bear thinking about. That poor, poor man. I don't talk about LQR under the cut because it's too sad for me to contemplate.)

1) So the thing is, this isn’t a noticeably better accidental killing for WWX, because while the Lans may be less the powerhouse than the Jins, JGS will definitely try and use LXC’s death to turn against WWX. And it’s going to be stupidly easy, because LXC was a sect leader and the sworn brother of his son.

(I assume LXC was there because he was invited to JL’s 100 days ceremony and his passing there was a coincidence, while in canon he was already at Jinlintai. So maybe JZX is still in Jinlintai here, the confrontation happening earlier and thus before JZX departed; or JZX is here as well as he was in canon, and LXC was the one running late - in which case, JZX is alive and a witness and might speak up on WWX’s behalf at least to his wife and his BIL, at least to tell them that it seemed an accident. This turns out not to have much of an impact on the grand scale of things OR on JYL and JC’s understanding of what happened, bc they already trust WWX so much, but it does have an impact on JZX’s view of the world and himself. This is less about WWX than it is about politics in general and his father in specific. In that version he’s much more in-the-middle of things, much more aware of being personally dismissed. In that version there’s a chance he and JYL go live in LP.)

Besides the Jins, there’s also NMJ, who is a big fan of his sworn brothers not getting killed and of not shielding people from the consequences of their actions. Just putting it out there where we can see it. On the other hand, they’re not LXC’s most direct family. LWJ and the Lans are, so NMJ lets LWJ take point.

(There's a version of this prompt where NMJ qi-deviates when he hears about LXC's death. In that timeline should WWX get killed NHS' plans never feature bringing him back.)

2) Know for whom LXC dying instead of JZX changes things a lot, though? WQ and WN. When they decide to surrender themselves, they go to Cloud Recesses, not Jinlintai. LWJ and his sect I feel wouldn't punish WQ for LXC’s death. She wasn't there.

(WN, otoh, is very done for. There is no way GSL pulls a Jin to keep him around. He's a fierce corpse and the one who killed their sect leader at that. They execute him/lay his soul to rest. There's no further desacration of WN and that's probably the bitterest comfort WQ could hope for. WQ does try to shield WN when she realizes the Lans aren't planning on executing her, but she doesn't get that.)

WQ would easily get a promise of safety from LWJ for at least A-Yuan, probably Granny, maybe the others - on the sterner end of the scale for the adult cultivators. This is somewhat dependent on what JGS (and NMJ) are clamoring for but JGS wants the Stygian Seal more than he does the Wens and NMJ would be satisfied with the Lans supervising the fate of the Wen remnants. Besides, the most high-profile of the Wen remnants is WQ and she just surrendered herself. WN would say WWX isn’t responsible for LXC’s death, it was a freak resentful energy accident–

3) I think what LWJ does demand about WWX is... that WWX be given over to Gusu Lan. They can lock him up. And purify him of the resentful energy.

LWJ is in a frankly abysmal mental space - it’s only because his cultivation is so orthodox that he doesn't qi deviate. It’s all tearing him up, LXC’s death because of the guy LWJ has a crush on, LWJ’s want for WWX and LWJ’s wish that he could (imitate his father) bring someone back to CR and lock them up and LWJ suddenly being in the horrendous situation where he is imitating his father. The memory of the kiss is now a nightmare. It was always a mixed memory (how shameful, to lose control of himself thus - to take advantage of the one he loved - to lack even the courage to simply ask, either for the kiss, or at least for forgiveness) but now it makes him retch.

It's all twisted in the fact that LXC is dead, because of WWX. There can be nothing between LWJ and WWX now. Simply wishing there could be would be the worst betrayal.

(LWJ remembers the days of their youth, LXC’s delight and gentle teasing at LWJ’s inexplicable liking of WWX. The Water Abyss. And now LXC is dead, because of the boy he was so happy LWJ wanted for a friend. LXC always wanted LWJ to have friends, something akin to his own friendship with NMJ.)

0) (the Problem. The Problem is that I cannot see WWX staying in the Cloud Recesses if he's imprisoned there. If he wouldn't rather die at first, he will afterwards. LWJ thinks of his mother. If WWX dies LWJ would enter seclusion like his father once did. This isn’t something LWJ tells himself consciously.)

4) JC and JYL visit WWX in the Cloud Recesses while he's imprisoned there. JC hates LWJ for it, but I think he's self-aware enough to think “what if it had been Jiejie.” It’s hard to hate LWJ wholeheartedly.

5) WQ is in Cloud Recesses, too. She’ll never live outside the Cloud Recesses again, but it could have been far worse. She’s allowed time with A-Yuan (she is not in forced seclusion and neither is she A-Yuan’s mother but LWJ cannot let himself see them together, or else he starts to think of how she isn’t allowed to raise her kin herself.)

When it comes out *pretty damn early* that WWX doesn’t have a core, she’s the one who implies WZL got him.

(JC is in LWJ’s office clamoring, begging for WWX to be released into the care of YMJ in a hot minute after he finds out - which takes at least one or two visits, because no-one wrote to tell him, and it takes him asking a question about how getting WWX rid of resentful energy and not letting go when the answer’s too cagey to his taste for him to know. If it were just LWJ– but LWJ has elders. plus there’s also LXC’s sworn brothers to contend with; LWJ isn’t thinking of that, and JC will think of it later, after LWJ has refused to return WWX to YMJ.) JC is so so so angry at everyone involved - WWX for *lying to him*, why didn’t you *tell me*, I would have *helped* - WQ for hiding it from him AND not telling him when she told the Lans (to which she retorts that she isn’t exactly allowed a free correspondence. Hmph. Okay. JC allows that. WQ has negative scruples about lying to him about the core rn.) - LWJ for keeping WWX a prisoner here even though WWX is, is, WWX isn’t a cultivator anymore he’s a normal person let YMJ watch over him, let JC - even JYL for having something else in her life that she loves, that isn’t WWX locked up in another sect.

WQ is also the one who sees when WWX is seriously at risk of his life just fading away, and this time she tells JC: if WWX doesn’t get out, he will die.

The fic ends with WQ and JC breaking WWX out of the Cloud Recesses (it’s implied LWJ is looking the other way). WQ stays in CR, of course, but JC is taking WWX to Lotus Pier. There’s no plan for “later”.

Cuddle Conundrum

When wangxian started dating they became rather awkward and shy around eachother. It's a new addition to their dynamic and they're still learning to be fully comfortable with eachother.

WWX loves horror movies but he is unaware that his new boyfriend ALSO loves them.

It's a secret guilty pleasure of LWJ's that literally no one knows of. So, when Wwx starts asking to watch horror movies all the time together, lwj is rather pleased. What he is NOT pleased about is how often WWX will glance his way with a frown on his face during the movie.

And after? WWX seems kind of sad and dejected. LWJ isn't sure what he's doing wrong and it's starting to freak him out. So, he goes to his closest friend who isn't WWX: MM.

LWJ explains the situation and then MM laughs. She laughs! When she calms down, she explains.

"Bro, your boyfriend is totally trying to get you to seek out comfort in his arms by putting on scary movies! He's sad you aren't cuddling with him!"

LWJ blinks owlishly. "Why would he do that? He could cuddle me if he wanted to."

MM sighs. "Sure, he could," she acquiesces.

"But, he clearly is either uncertain about that or he just wants you to initiate it. Maybe both."

LWJ considers that, while WWX has always been very tactile, he has seemed less so since they started dating. LWJ hadn't thought to initiate it himself or that WWX wanted that.

He nods. "Very well. Is this a common tactic amongst the dating?"

MM laughs again. "Yeah, it is."

"I see. I shall remedy the situation. Thank you for the advice."

"Sure, sure. And thank you for the lunch!"

With that, LWJ returns home and promptly invites WWX over.

"Would you like to watch a movie tonight?" LWJ asks shortly after WWX arrives.

"Yeah, sounds good. What were you thinking? Action? Comedy? Fantasy?"

"Horror."

WWX shifts slightly. "Okay."

LWJ nods and selects a highly frightening film. That should suffice.

He waits about 15 minutes into the film before turning to WWX. "Wei Ying. I am frightened."

WWX pauses the movie and looks at him with a look of shocked concern. "You—what?"

"I am frightened," he replies simply.

"I... okay. Did you want to stop watching?"

LWJ shakes his head. "No, thank you. You enjoy the movie, I would not wish to deprive you of that. It would be acceptable if you protected me with your body so I may hide in your safe and comforting embrace."

WWX stares silently for a while before awkwardly lifting his arms.

LWJ wastes no time. He shifts forward and slots himself against his boyfriend, nuzzling into his warmth. WWX is tense but slowly he relaxes and lets his arms rest on LWJ, holding him close.

"Better?" WWX asks.

"Mn. You may play the movie."

WWX does.

After about 30 minutes, WWX asks, "You weren't really scared, were you?"

"No," LWJ admits. "I often watch horror movies by myself."

"Then, why?"

"You seemed sad after watching horror movies with me and MM told me you were likely hoping I would seek comfort in your arms."

"Ah..."

"Was she incorrect?"

WWX laughs quietly. "No, she was right."

"I see. Well, you could have asked me to cuddle. Or initiate it yourself. I had not realized this is what you wished to occur."

WWX hums. "True, I was just... ah, well. I felt awkward doing that."

LWJ nuzzles further against WWX. "You do not need to feel awkward about seeking physical intimacy from me, Wei Ying. We are dating. It is more expected now than ever before."

"True," WWX laughs. "But I thought you hated touch."

"Not from you. Never from you."

"Hush, you. I can't take such sweet words from such a sweet mouth."

LWJ smiles to himself. "You will have to get used to it."

"So it seems." LWJ can hear the smile in WWX's voice.

From then on, they are almost never not touching if they are in the same room.

I know a lot of the fandom loves CQL, probably more than those of us who prefer the novel (at least that’s the perception i get whenever we interact with the fandom online. This includes tumblr, reddit, tiktok, etc.), but holy crap there hasn’t been an adaptation of anything that I’ve disliked more than that one. In my opinion, it’s only salvageable thing is the nice chemistry that the main leads had. But even that is barely anything because they just don’t feel like wwx and lwj to me. Everything else is just plain awful: the way they completely changed the story (I understand they had to deal with censorship but they still added a lot of unnecessary crap and changed a lot of things that honestly didn’t need changing), the pretty bad acting from a lot of the cast, the horrible editing, the way they couldn’t be bothered to cast somewhat accurately (nmj is too damn short and so is lwj, why is jfm so freaking old compared to his wife and im sorry but lwj and lxc look nothing alike I understand that it’s not easy to find people who can fit the descriptions well but they could have tried harder).

Im sorry for the rant, this is probably a topic you have seen a lot and are probably too tired to even comment on it but i felt like you could give and objective opinion.

I have never watched cql, and everything I’ve heard about it since reading the novel makes me not want to. I heard that the music’s good, tho lol

I don’t know your opinion on bottom lwj (maybe you like it or have no problem with it) I personally hate it with a burning passion, not even from fetishized point of view. But because it literally goes against how the character is in canon. Regardless, I usually just block that tag in ao3, but now i come back to tumblr after not logging in like almost a year and one of the first things i see is a freaking fan art of JC supposedly doing LWJ (is not shown explicitly) and WWX looking and being supportive and i just wanted to throw up. Literally felt like someone hit me with a pokemon psychic attack, i of course blocked the account and the bottom lwj tag here (something I didn’t even think i had to do) but i still can’t erase that image out of my brain so i had to rant to someone. Since you seem like someone really nice and you’re always amazing when answering asks here i am. If this ask makes you uncomfortable please feel completely free to delete it and forget it.

Aww, well thank you 😙 that's very sweet of you to say.

So firstly, before I tell you my opinion - I actually know the image you are referring to and I did the exact same thing when the post assaulted my eyes. I mean, everyone has their ships but come on! WX and JC?! No thanks.

As for your question, I have no majorly strong opinion on bottomji. I have read a few fanfics that have worked out alright. Mostly YLLZ era WWX meets extremely horny and willing 'self-sacrificing' virgin LWJ 'taking one for the team' - which were quite funny. But overall I do find it a little strange, because by making LWJ 'bottomji' people tend to make WX somewhat out of character one way or the other.

The reason I do not have a particularly strong opinion on LWJ being the bottom, is because it's kind of implied in the extras that they may well have done such things during their very active and passionate sex life already.

Seeing that he’d nearly hit his limit, Wei Wuxian laughed heartily and kissed his lips. “Er-gege, what haven’t we done? Why are you still so shy?”

To me, the above certainly implies they've done a lot more than we have witnessed and switching would certainly come into that.

Also, I actually think LWJ would do anything for WWX, if he should ask. Including switching things up every now and then if his dear husband wished.

Overall, I don't think LWJ switching positions on occasion is necessarily out of character, if done properly and the fanfic authors stay true to how the characters actually are and would react during such acts. For example, LWJ still being the more dominant one out of the pair. Just because he's bottoming doesn't mean he's suddenly going to be submissive.

That being said, the image you and I saw is of course just completely out of character! JC is homophobic for a start! It just wouldn't happen. Ever. Even if JC was interested in some strange alternative universe. WX just wouldn't! I'm also convinced that WX would not want to, nor be willing to engage in sex with anyone else, even a threesome or some voyeuristic partner swap - or whatever the hell that image was?!

Wangxian are too wrapped up in each other, too completely obsessed with each other for anything else. Not to mention LWJ would drink so much vinegar he would pickle! And I don't think WWX would fare much better, LWJ is his and I don't think he'd be willing to share either!

I can understand why you might find it a bit odd seeing the roles switched around, but I do think it's something that could possibly be an occasional occurrence in canon because of the lines I mentioned above. Though I do love their dynamic in the novel and that is definitely what I prefer. Overall, we all have different preferences and opinions I guess ☺️

Finally, my dear anon...please go and read your favourite fanfic or browse through some gorgeous Wangxian art to cleanse yourself of the image which assaulted your senses. It's what I did and I feel much better now lol!

All the Things We’ll Leave Behind: ch 27, pt 3

“If it’s something that can help us find A-Zhan, I promise I won’t do anything that would get you in trouble,” jyl said so seriously it startled jzxuan. He had known the omega a long time and while he had, on a few rare occasions, seen her adopt a serious attitude for whatever reason—usually in defence of her dumbass brother—he had never been close enough to actually see the cold sincerity in her face, to smell the sparkle of a promise wafting off her.

The Lus paused in their badly whispered argument over whether to tell them whatever secret they were keeping before the omega-girl blurted out, “Bunnies!”

“Bunnies?” the alpha-girl asked, obviously as surprised by their answer as jzxuan and jyl were. She raised an eyebrow at her friends. “I didn’t know you had wild bunnies here.”

“We don’t,” jyl told her, her own eyebrows crinkled in confusion.

“We didn’t,” the omega-girl continued, “but, well…”

“But someone got two from the city,” came another voice, one of the alpha-girls who had talked about how horrible jwy was, jzxuan realized as she too stepped out of the restaurant, followed by the remainder of their group. “His parents freaked out though and told him to get rid of them. I think they expected him to kill the things—wouldn’t have if they knew him at all,” she scoffed, shaking her head, her waist length hair swishing around her as she muttered about parents who knew nothing about their own children. “Well, he couldn’t kill them, and he couldn’t keep them. So he let them go.”

“We all expected them to die!” another voice added, someone near them saying they still thought that should count as killing them, not the circle of life, and seemingly setting the group into an ongoing argument over ethics and where responsibility ended.

“But they didn’t!” someone else called over their friends’ argument. “And you know what happens when bunnies are left alone.”

A few of the teenagers snickered, before a timid omega-boy stammered, “I-I thought they were b-both girls!” sending more of the group into a fit of laughter.

“A-Zhan does like bunnies…” jyl said as she turned back to the woods.

“You think he’d run off into the woods chasing one?” the foreign alpha-girl asked.

jzxuan was already shaking his head in exasperation and looking off into the woods when he heard jyl confirm that yes, she did in fact believe lwj would run off into the woods chasing woodland creatures. Of course he would. He liked bunnies and he was drunk as a skunk—another woodland animal. Just great. Just what he needed, to have to explain to wwx how his mate had run off to join the creatures of the forest. Maybe the older alpha would kill him, rip his throat out. At least then he wouldn’t have to deal with inheriting the family business or getting married off to some omega he didn’t want.

Behind him, he could hear the group of teens discussing the situation, something about whether some of them should head to the more accessible areas around where lwj had disappeared to see if they could find the runaway alpha. Personally, he was rather done with this whole situation and wanted to go to bed. Could he just lay down right here, right in front of the sketchy crepe restaurant, and sleep? He doubted the old lady inside could move him, although she was likely to kick him until he moved himself.

Unfortunately, jzxuan couldn’t just let these random teenagers go off and find his lost, intoxicated friend, although he cursed himself for not being able to just abandon everyone. Maybe his father was right after all, maybe he did need to be a bit more cold-hearted. Leave the teenagers, stupid and still idolizing lwj after his fight with Chong-xiansheng, to find him. He could be their problem now! jzxuan would just have to figure out how to not care about his friend’s fate!

A/N: of course lwj spotted a bunny and chased after it. I wonder if he'll catch it 🤔

Time travel prompt (crackish)

We all know that wangxian would have lots of kids (could be adopted, could be biological vial WWX taking “impossible” as a personal challege, whatever you prefer). So, imagine wangxian with 12 fucking children, from 20-something years old Sizhui down to a months old baby girl.

One day, some of the youngest find their way inside WWX’s office (and by “office” I mean “a little house some meters away from the Jingshi, which LWJ had built so WWX could work on his inventions without any danger of their house being set on fire by accident”). Sizhui, who had took a day off to play with his baby siblings, notice that 4 of the little ones had dissapeared and instantly knows they went to the office to find WWX.

Well, WWX isn’t there, but his inventions are, and Heaven knows the kind of things he has stored there.

Sizhui goes to retrieve his runnaways baby siblings, the rest of the little ones in tow because like hell he will trust all of them to stay put and not put themselves in a situation. When he gets inside the office, he doesn’t have time to stop one of baby brothers before he touch one of the talisman prototypes.

Cut to the past (could be the past of their own reality, or from another reality, you can decide), during one of the war meetings of the Sunshot Campaign. Sect leader Yao is testing everyone’s patience, as always, LXC trying to keep everyone calm, JC rolling his eyes at people’s idiocy, NMJ yelling, LWJ already gave up trying to pay attention on what’s going on and is thinking about ways of tying to convince WWX to go back to Gusu with him, and WWX is thinking about how that meeting is a waste of time and about how he wishes he was anywhere but there.

Suddenly, a bright light shines out of thin air, and everyone freaks out thinking they’re under attack. The light dims and everyone see that now, on the middle of the room, there are 12 young Lan disciples (we all know WWX would automatically exclaim “Baby Lans!”, because tiny baby Lans with their tiny white and blue robes and their tiny forehead ribbons are one of his biggest weaknesses).

There are lots of questioning, especially since neither LXC nor LWJ have ever seen these disciple (all 12 of them are using the clan forehead ribbon, not the white one the outer disciples use, therefore they are from the Lan clan, not only the Lan sect). It takes some time for them to believe the newcomers are really from the future (Sizhui whisper-hums wangxian.mp3 to LWJ, and LWJ says that yes, they’re really from the future).

However, LSZ humming wangxian.mp3 makes LWJ ask him how he learned that music, and LSZ reveals he is LWJ’s son (LXC, on the background: I HAVE A NEPHEW???) and that LWJ used to sing it to him as a lullaby, and that makes one of the sect leaders ask about the parentage of the other 11 Lans. When that happens, one of the younger children says they’re all from the main family line.

NMJ: So, how many of you are Wangji’s children and how many of you are Xichen’s?

Everyone, surprised that the Twin Jades would have so many children, and eager to find out which one of them have the most: 👀👀👀

Wangxian’s 7th child: What do you mean? Lan Xichen is our uncle. We’re all Lan Wangji’s children.

Everyone, having a mind blow because LWJ, the cultivation world’s official fuddy-duddy, will father 12 fucking children: 🤯🤯🤯

LXC, having the time of his life knowing he will have 12 niblings: 🥳🥳🥳

WWX, trying to figure out why he is sad that LWJ will marry someone else: 😕🤔🧐🤨

MDZS Ch. 7 Swoons

(Note: Passages are taken from ExR's translations.)

I love how WWX has just come back to life and is seeing LWJ again for the first time and the boy is already smitten again.

The pair of white boots passed around Wei WuXian and calmly walked three steps forward. Wei WuXian raised his head and got up. As he walked past the former, slightly brushing their shoulders, he made eye contact with him for a short moment, pretending that it was unintentional.

Like really, WWX? You’ve just bumped into the love of your life LWJ again, and you immediately need to orchestrate a moment to physically bump into him and make him look at you? Things brings to mind CR days and especially the Qishan Discussion Conference/shooting competition where WWX is repeatedly determined to make LWJ pay attention to him. WWX might be in a different body but his need to make LWJ look at him is innate to his soul.

He had an aura of smooth moonlight. The seven-stringed zither that he carried on his back was narrower than most. Its body was black, made using wood of soft color. The man wore a forehead ribbon with cloud patterns. His skin was fair, features both refined and elegant, as if he was a piece of polished jade. The color of his eyes was especially light, like they were made of colored glass, causing his gaze to be overly distant. His expression held the traces of frost and snow, stern to the degree of being stiff, unwavering even as he saw Wei WuXian’s ridiculous face. There wasn’t a single spec of dust or wrinkled spot on him, from his head to his feet. It was impossible to find any fault with his appearance.

So this bit here… Arguably, this isn’t necessarily WWX swooning over LWJ. Every novel will take a moment to describe its main characters. At the very least, this description is just letting us know that LWJ is important to the story and is starting to set up his character. It’s important to me to remember that the actual narrator is not WWX (so we do not actually get all of WWX’s thoughts and opinions), but the narration is heavily colored by WWX’s heart eyes perspective.

Even so, two capitalized words jumped into Wei WuXian’s mind. Mourning clothes!

We see here that there is actually a slight separation between the narration and WWX’s actual thoughts.

Mourning clothes, indeed. Although all of the clans in the cultivation world used extravagant words to describe the GusuLan Sect’s uniform as the best-looking uniform and Lan WangJi as an incomparable beauty who only appeared once in a blue moon, nothing could help the bitter facial expression that made him look as though his wife had passed away.

However, as we can see in the passage above, the narration and WWX’s perspectives are very much blended together. This is where I think MXTX makes wonderful use of the ‘unreliable narrator’. How much of the narration is exposition, uncolored by WWX’s opinions? How much of the narration is his conscious thoughts (‘Mourning clothes!’)? How much of the narration is his subconscious thoughts (‘nothing could help the bitter facial expression that made him look as though his wife had passed away’)? Because the narration and WWX’s perspectives are blended, we can’t really tell, and that’s what creates questions and uncertainty for the reader until they get to know the characters much better as the story progresses. I just love and freak out so much about the way MXTX tells her stories and I just ahhhhhhhhhh… Anyway… ahem. I digress.

If I had to say, I would say that the passage gradually goes from exposition to WWX’s unconscious thoughts. Exposition: ‘Mourning clothes, indeed… best looking uniform’ WWX’s unconscious thoughts: ‘LWJ as an incomparable beauty…as though his wife had passed away.’

Sorry, another freak out about the author moment here. I love that you wouldn’t necessarily know that this second part is part of WWX’s unconscious until we get to the CR arc. During the CR arc, WWX repeatedly comments on how cold and grumpy LWJ looks and how that’s ‘no way to attract the ladies’. It really takes knowing this history between WangXian for us to know that this is actually WWX’s personal brand and way of describing LWJ’s stern face X-D.

Anyway, back to the point… WWX unconsciously thinks that LWJ is an incomparable beauty ^_~.

Powerful cultivators from prominent clans usually didn’t care to pay attention to lower level preys. However, Lan WangJi was an exception. He never cared for the prey of a night-hunt, and wouldn’t refuse to go just because the creature was not threatening enough to increase his fame. If anyone wanted help, he would be there. He had been like this ever since he was young. “Being wherever the chaos is” was the comment that the public gave him for his night-hunts and, also, praise for his moral character.

This bit here is probably mostly exposition and uncolored by WWX’s own opinions since WWX was dead during the time most of this would be happening. Notice that there’s not much regarding how pretty LWJ is ^_~.

Lan WangJi seemed as if he didn’t want to engage in conversation, throwing Lan SiZhui a look. Lan WangJi frowned. Jin Ling was about to speak again, but he suddenly realized that, shockingly, he could neither open his mouth nor make any sounds.

Okay… so these two are just thrown in for fun because I absolutely cannot get over how f***ing petty LWJ is. Petty LWJ is definitely among my top favorite things.

Okay so I went from swooning over WWX swooning over LWJ into freaking out about how much I love MXTX’s storytelling… I guess one could say I'm also swooning about the author here... but we shall resume the WangXian swooning in ch. 8.

"and others have to suffer because of your debt?" wwx's similarities with wzl are impossible to ignore. but wwx would never hurt innocent people, or allow them to be hurt, because of his gratitude. there are limits to loyalty, and his conscience demands he act even if it's against his obligation. he's still able to make his own decisions, he's still a free agent

I would call that 'horror' or 'alarm'. jc is still like 'hmmm' but lwj is like 'this is fucked this is fucked this is fucked wei ying what are you DOING'

read a really interesting meta ages ago about how wwx deliberately sets jc between himself and lwj, using jc as both a shield and a tool to deflect lwj's inevitable questions and painful condemnation. and it starts here, with moving to sit down. it's also almost a power play

this is exactly how jc is written in a lot of fics that piss me off. this tsundere-esque approach is actually canonical to jc's current relationship dynamics with wwx, it's just not how they interact with each other postres. it annoys me because it's treating jc like an affectionate, if sarcastic and repressed 18 year old who hugged his brother instead of the bitter, deeply wounded man who traumatized him without remorse and tried to kill him multiple times. it's inaccurate, and it's infantalizing, and it lets jc off the hook for the horrific things he does to wwx later in the story by treating him like an awkward kid who can't communicate well instead of an adult who's responsible for the terrible things he's done and the choices he's made

but I like this dynamic. I think it's fun, and sweet, and has personality. i wish we had it back too. I understand the nostalgia

everything about this interaction is so wrong. wwx barely interacting with lwj, being all formal, standing to bow, calling him hgj. the last time they saw each other wwx had asked lwj to sing for him and lwj had given him a song he wrote for them....I'd be freaked out and worried too. but lwj goes about expressing his concern in all the wrong ways

demanding answers. laying down judgement. telling him to return to gusu. of course wwx shies away

he's distancing himself to protect himself. he doesn't want to be the one who lwj leaves, he wants to be in control of how their relationship ends, as he assumes it must end. and he knows nothing good will come to him if he goes to gusu, and that must hurt too because he wants to cultivate the sword again but he never will

this is such a cruel thing to say to lwj...wwx who is the one acting cold suddenly!

and THIS shot. shew. lwj physically trying to get to wwx to demand what's going on, why is he acting like this, why is he not cultivating the sword, why is he using such terrible methods, and jc stepping in as wwx's shield to say this doesn't concern you. the contrast between this scene and postres scenes. wild

Ooh, I get to choose! For those following along at home, this is in reference to this post, and I’ll take Fertility Talismans for 500. So when I conceived of (hah!) Wangxian A/B/O Bingo, this was my original Alpha WWX/Omega LWJ draft. Then I wrote myself into a plot corner and couldn’t figure out how to write myself out of it. 😂 (Note to self: if you make JGY really devious, you have to make sure to make your heroes equivalently devious if you want the story to have a happy ending!) So I gave up on that idea and wrote And these are all for you instead. Then, in the shower (where all the best fic ideas come), I figured out how to get myself out of the plot corner I’d written myself into! So someday there’ll be a bonus entry in the series, when I get this one finished. A snippet:

[for context: In the Burial Mounds era, JGY suggests to LXC and JC an arranged marriage between WWX and LWJ as a way to bring WWX back into the fold. For their own reasons, they agree, and to everybody’s surprise (well, everyone but JGY), WWX and LWJ do, too. They get married in Cloud Recesses:]

THERE’S A WEDDING; IT’S A BIT SMALL, A BIT RUSHED, WWX WASN’T WILLING TO BE AWAY FROM THE BURIAL MOUNDS FOR LONG AND ALSO HE’S THE FREAKING YILING PATRIARCH AND THE WHOLE THING IS AWKWARD TIMES A MILLION.

THEN THEY’RE ALONE IN THE BEDCHAMBER AND THEY’RE KISSING AND STARTING TO SHED THEIR ROBES AND WWX CATCHES SIGHT OF A TALISMAN, SQUINTS, GRABS IT OUT OF CURIOSITY…

A smile comes over his face that has nothing of joy in it. Almost wistful. Knowing.

“Lan Zhan ah, Lan Zhan.” He shakes his head and remarks to no one, still smiling, “Didn’t I always say it? The subtlety of an omega. The cunning of a beta. And the ruthlessness of an alpha. I bow before Hanguang-jun, who will stop at nothing to catch his prey.”

He suits actions to words with a deep bow.

Lan Wangji snatches the talisman from Wei Ying’s hands, examines it; his stomach drops.

At first glance, a contraceptive talisman, of the sort that they agreed upon, and that Lan Wangji requested from Lan Mei; but a few key alterations have reversed its effect.

“Using my own tricks to snare me – poetic justice, I suppose.”

“Wei Ying—”

“Ah, how stupid I was, Lan Zhan!” Finally, that knowing smile trembles, then cracks. “I should have known. I did know. I asked the right question: why would the great Hanguang-jun, the Second Jade of Lan, marry this humble outcast, reviled by the cultivation world, traveling the crooked path, not a single coin in his purse? But I was happy.” A tear spills down Wei Ying’s cheek; Lan Wangji’s heart seizes in his chest. “Ah, I was so happy. I didn’t want to know the answer. I didn’t want to see the lie.”

“Wei Ying. I did not know,” Lan Wangji says, desperate. “We have both been deceived. I would not lie.”

Beat. Softly, Wei Ying says, “I want to believe you. I think I do believe you. But I… I also believe that you might do all kinds of terrible things to me, if you believed it was for my own good.”

As a J.C. lover, having watched the series and read the book and agreeing that novel J.C. is totally aro

the show really doesn't do Jiang Cheng justice (the actor is fantastic though) but it doesn't do anything reprehensible with his character if that is any consolation.

the JC and WQ story felt out of place even before I read the novel but I think we have China's censorship to thank for it? like I think they had to give some type of forbidden love romance because while in the book its WWX and LWJ they couldn't really show it blatantly on the show. Also because of the whole story arc changing to include WQ and WN in the cloud recessess high school maybe the rewriters thought it would help us feel something idk.

Also it gave a chance for more female presence in the story itself so go women.

I'd say my bigger problem with the show is the entire yin iron gag. Instead of making Wen Ruhan just an evil man with power, they tried to turn it into greatest supervillian with demonic cultivation

That's good to know that they don't totally ruin my boy but making him like know Wen Qing does make his refusal to help them later much more callous and cruel which I just hate

But yeah making Wen Ruhan a supervillain with demonic cultivation is really bad because it really undercuts Wei Wuxian's character arc

I get they changed the name but the source material is titled "The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation" I suppose the live action was like "we can't have the main character be morally grey or have done really fucked up things in his own!"

But that's one of the things I like about Wei Wuxian's character!

During the war he is driven by revenge and does things that are disturbing

He really freaks LWJ out! And yeah the people he's using this against are "bad" but does that justify what he does? Like that's a legitimate question the text poses

He's basically a weapon of mass destruction and by creating demonic cultivation he inadvertently leads to others doing horrific things too using his knowledge and tools that he left behind

And he has to deal with that guilt!

Why do all the adaptions make his worse actions not really his fault? Yes it's his fault let him be fucked up!

Also let Wen Ruhan be awful but normal human awful. You don't have add more. He sucks enough as is

For that post-canon Pokemon crossover, I would like to ask if you could say which specific kinds of pokemon travel with the Wangxian and ZYX group in that timeline and ZYX, JZX, and MM in the other timeline? I would also like to ask whether those pokemon would either choose or be allowed to go with the groups to their world and remain there?

i mentioned in one of the posts of the pkmn au tag (... uh maybe in the tags themselves so ofc no one saw)

the specifics of what the team comps are will be left alone bc why spend brainpower thinking if i can simulate via playing bdsp? so no

i think with how wwx handles any animal or creature, zyx would take over the bulk of training and battling to get them places safely. assign a pkmn to each person as a babysitting thing. i think in terms of pragmatism, starly are a good bet since they evolve at a decent level, strong and aggressive, can carry the humans. also zyx has a soft spot for staraptor.

... definitely getting a drifloon in valley windworks . if not as another flying-type to yoink them out of danger (tie one of the little arms onto wwx's hair), zyx has big love for drifloon

ok the thing is, no matter what, bc zyx has more knowledge of the pkmn world and has Opinions, they will go full-control freak on the actual team comp. whether or not those pkmn will come with them is another question.

fine i guess i can name pkmn off the top of my head. they kinda 'share' the pkmn but zyx will be the official trainer

- starly x2 into staraptor

- drifloon

- budew -> roserade

- buizel -> floatzel

- wwx attracts ghost pkmn; zyx equally is delighted (loves ghost pkmn in game) and hates it (ghost pkmn are quite dangerous not in game), now they're haunted by gastly and misdreavus

- zyx put their foot down at the spiritomb trying to lure wwx to complete it

- lwj heart-eyes over a buneary but the thing is a fucking menace. zyx (heckled by wwx) reluctantly chases it down to catch it and calls it lwj's problem ("we don't need one of those, it's sub-optimal, we're not made of money and can waste pokeballs like that -")

- lwj stubbornly bonding with the buneary comes in handy when zyx is trying to catch a sneasel, and the tricky guy wipes everyone and is too fast until the now-lopunny punts the sneasel into the ground

every pkmn is caught for travel and pragmatic purposes. the ultimate goal is to survive going up mt. coronet

it doesn't change much for jzx + mm. what makes zyx the way they are also means that sometimes they make boring and unvaried decisions. for the sake of the survival of a group, zyx will not be giving in to letting everyone roam free. if that's the expectation of what this post-dbd crossover is, then it must be let go.

maybe the change to the lineup will include a shinx -> luxray, w/o wwx's crippling fear. jzx would like to battle but he's also the type to hate to suck. so the very visible learning curve would put him off and he'd let zyx take care of it. mm would try to learn enough to stay aware and safe.

finally, the question of "taking the pkmn w them"

pkmn live in the pkmn world, with an ecosystem tailored just for them

zyx knows enough to understand it'd be the height of stupid and irresponsible to want their team to come along into a different world, without their species or anything else familiar to them. it's like purposefully inflicting the same type of suffering that transmigration put zyx through on these wonderful sentient beings that so kindly helped the humans return home safely. no.

and bc zyx is a fun-sucker that can't stop overthinking and sucking fun, the pkmn journey wouldn't be just a wacky post-dbd thing. there will be growth. maturation. emotional development

and part of being a mature, actualized adult is understanding that people come and go from your life and that's ok. it also harkens to the more buddhist-influenced upbringing of the shuangfeng cultivators, on attachment. well, the taoists themselves don't think on it as much as the buddhists do, but it's still a thing that's an undercurrent in cultivator culture.

the other mdzs members present will/should understand letting go, too

WangXian Powdered Donut Get Together

Just saw a video and my brain did the thing (aka "what if wangxian") so here we go

WWX is sitting on the couch and eating powdered donuts, scrolling on his phone when LWJ comes and sits next to him. They're best friends, so they hang out a lot, especially at LWJ's place.

LWJ even lets him eat messy foods on his nice couch (see: powdered donuts)

He sees LWJ looking at him from the corner of his eye. "Wei Ying," LWJ says.

WWX turns his attention and LWJ points to the corner of his own mouth. WWX stares at the spot in confusion for a moment.

LWJ taps it a few times and WWX shrugs and places a quick kiss there before returning to his scrolling. He's shocked, but not about to question it. LWJ is his best friend and has been warming up to physical contact their whole friendship, this is just a new kind.

WWX kisses his friends on the cheek and even forehead all the time, he's glad LWJ is comfortable joining that finally; he's been wanting to kiss him for so long. Definitely as a friend. Definitely not with any underlying wishes for a fiery, passion-filled romance.

So he's projecting calmness and nonchalance, but really is feeling rather flustered and excited over such a small thing.

Then his face is suddenly gripped tightly in LWJ's hands, turning his head slightly before LWJ crashes his lips on WWX's.

He doesn't freak out, he doesn't freeze. He has no time for any of that. LAN ZHAN IS KISSING HIM!!!

WWX kissing back immediately and LWJ deepens it, pulling a moan from WWX. It's fierce. It's his first on the mouth kiss. It's with LAN ZHAN!

It's better than he ever hoped.

"And that, kids," WWX says, looking down at the four kids seated on the floor, "is how your father and I finally started dating."

A-Yuan seems simultaneously grossed and pleased, Jingyi is stunned, Zizhen has the sweetest expression, and A-Ling mumbles, "Not my dad."

"You had powder on your face," LWJ says.

WWX glances at him from where he's pressed against his side. "When?"

"When we got together. You were eating powdered donuts, powder was on your face. That is what I was trying to point out, but then you kissed me."

WWX gapes at him. His whole life has been a lie! LWJ WASN'T asking for a kiss? He wants to be bummed, but he can't bring himself to be. Who knows how long they would have spent hovering around eachother if not for that tiny moment. "Ah," he laughs. "Well then."

"WAIT! IS THAT WHY YOU LICKED MY FACE WHEN WE WERE MAKING OUT!?"

One or more of a kids groan then.

LWJ's ears are dusted pink and he smiles softly. "Mn. You were very sweet."

"Aiya, Lan Zhan! I see how it is! Were you ever planning on telling me this?"

LWJ shifts his eyes away briefly

"Aha! You were just going to let me go on believing you've finally asked for a cheek kiss when you were really trying to tell me how much of a mess I am! Cruel man," he teases.

"My mess."

WWX clutches his chest and smiles at his husband.

"Yours," he says. "Forever and always."

KSJDNKSJDFN sorry it took so long to reply to this I promise I wasn’t ignoring you I was just overwhelmed this week and then after I actually sat down to write out my very long answer I accidentally unplugged my computer and I LOST IT ALL so sorry but this version Is going to be rather incoherent and missing stuff probably bc its pretty much just copied and pasted from one of my discord rambles/previous posts bc I don’t have the energy or memory to rewrite everything how I had it before.. but ive kept u waiting long enough so. Yeah. Sorry.

Also if I sound salty at all its not anything directed at you im just pissed at myself for writing like >3k words all in tumblr like a fool and not backing it up then accidentally yanking on my computer cord like RIGHT as I was going to post it. But I promise im actually very happy getting asks like these even if it takes me a long time to respond ;_;

So anyway basically the tldr version is that I have ocd and I love rubbing my terrible little projection paws all over my favorite characters, but also I do genuinely think that what we are shown of hua chengs personality and actions does naturally lead to the headcanon that he has ocd (and ocpd), kind of like how it seems very clear to me that wwx has adhd and lwj is autistic.

So. To start off. my ocd got suuuuuper bad in my second year of college, like to the point where my parents and psychologist was considering putting me in a hospital, so i know how awful ocd can get. and because of that ive always been kinda annoyed that all the ocd """""rep""""" in media is just comedic relief kinda stereotypical clean-freak perfectionist haha look at this weirdo sort of thing. like I was barely functional I couldn’t do basic tasks the majority of the time. ironically, my room was extremely dirty and messy despite my main obsession being about contamination. so yeah not all ocd manifests as the spotless perfect room perfect closet perfect desk or whatever the fuck. sometimes its the opposite. I also got put on academic probation bc I failed all but one of my classes (the one I passed was an art class. Lowkey think that class was the only thing keeping me out of a psych ward that quarter. lol. But anyway. That’s a different conversation) BUT ANYWAY it was all around Awful. Like idk it makes me feel kind of stupid for being such a mess before my medications when everyone just sees ocd as a joke or something. like for example, i loove death the kid soul eater, and hes a good character to make fun of urself after you’ve been medicated for ocd, but i wouldnt exactly call him good rep lmao. But after that relapse episode, I kind of really really really desperately needed a character/story to relate to about it but yippee! there are approximately zero (0) canon ocd characters that aren’t comedic relief! but anyway, i know hua cheng isnt canonically ocd but i was actually able to project on him alot from what we got of his personality (and i do gotta say, sorry but despite my attachment to him i dont actually think hes written all that well, but thats another rant), and its part of the reason why i love him so much bc hes like, definitely my biggest projecttion in this regard. so anyway

i mean theres no argument that his personality and actions are very. obsessive, and rather unhealthy to a degree, especially when he was younger, not so much as he matured over literally 800 years lol but he still has some hella issues. so like, [gestures to all of him] with how he chose xie lian as. HIS PERSON, and proceeded to revolve his entire personality and life around him is obvi v obsessive, i think its very obsessive compulsive personality disorder, which is slightly different than just ocd, one difference being (besides ocd being an anxiety disorder and ocpd being a personality disorder.) in that with ocpd, you dont really think theres anything wrong with how obsessive or compulsive you are, while with ocd it causes a lot of distress. (i havent been formally diagnosed with ocpd, but i do think i definitely at the very least have tendencies in that direction too. Like with certain things i know what im doing/thinking is irrational and it upsets me, but with others im just like. why cant other people see this the way i do? why cant they just understand why this is important? like I just get so! Angry! all the time! with people or in general when things aren’t how I want them to be. I get so judgemental even when other people cant possibly know how specific my standards are like I know its bad and I know it makes me act like a bitch and im sorry) anyway……….. sorry about the tangent but back to hua cheng. he is never distressed by how much he fixates on xie lian, the only thing that distresses him is his own percieved shortcomings with how he cannot serve xie lian the way he wants to. im not sure im explaining this well but i do definitely think hua cheng has ocpd as well. his fixation on xie lian actively prevents him forming meaningful relationships with other people, and even causes a lot of antagonism between him and others (especially fxmq). he just doesnt think anyone else is worthy of his attention. which is obviously, very unhealthy and kind of sad. (i do like to think he grows out of this a bit like with yin yu and he xuan, even if he doesnt want to admit it. AND YUSHI HUANG, bc i am also a ysh/hc brotp propaganda machine as well, and well because she was the only one that was willing to help xie lian during the war too. gay lesbian solidarity mwah <3)

so this ocpd thing.. i believe it extends to things like how the temple in ghost city, or paradise manor, is set up, he'd be classic perfectionist for the layout of it all, probably gave yin yu a lot of grief over it every single time he changed his mind and decided to burn it to the ground or redecorate it because it didnt seem good enough anymore for the hypothetical day when he can bring xie lian there. i dont like to think hua cheng treated yin yu badly on purpose, i dont like thinking hes cruel to him for the sake of being cruel like ive seen some people imply or outright suggest, i mean yin yu is obviously overworked but i think part of that is just hua cheng is so perfectionist about certain things (how the temples and manors look, how theyre run, anything that can be used for or by xie lian in the future) and he just doesnt see that its become a large burden on yin yu because he thinks this kind of stuff is just the rational thing to do, and that everyone should put as much thought into these things as he does. and if he doesnt feel like he can get things to be set up the way he wants it to be it becomes. catastrophic lol

so thats more of the pure ocpd side, though there is a lot of overlap between ocpd and ocd obvi

one thing about ocd is like. its all about wanting to be in control of every tiny part of your life. like for me when certain things are out of my control it freaks me out so much that it basically disables me. Its why I hate planes so much despite cars being statistically much more dangerous. Because if something happens in a car I at least have some semblance of control over how I can escape the situation. In a plane youre just. Fucked. (sorry to all pilots its nothing personal I think youre braver than I will ever be but its basically impossible for me to trust you (and the engineers and inspectors) with my life like that) anyway, i despise ambiguity of any kind and i hate not knowing things or having concrete answers to any questions or worries i have. like. i couldnt decide on a hypothetical grad school because i was weighing the possibilities down to like, ridiculous perceived probability percentages of how likely a natural disaster were to occur in the area, and how dangerous said natural disasters could be, etc. (well. i didnt have to worry about any of that in the end bc i got rejected from literally every school i applied to LMAO RIP but anyway.) so you get the gist. its all just very irrational, and time consuming, and ridiculous to try to gain control of every single possible path your life can take. AND I HATE IT. that was kinda yet another tangent but, to apply this concept to hua cheng. one thing that i find super funny about him is how he always has his nose in everyones personal business like hes such a fucking gossip girl its hilarious. like jokes aside its obvi helpful as a ghost king to know whats going on in the 3 realms, but i think he takes his info gathering up to 11 like he definitely has these control issues about having to know about everything thats going on at all times, having to be on top of everyones business so he cant be caught off guard by anything. over those 800 years of sending his butterflies out recording things he was primarily looking for xie lian, but hes also just kind of. snooping. lmfao. Because If He Doesnt Know Whats Going On Everywhere He Will Die. (again)

and well. with his butterflies to help him, it does work, i mean. hes always on top of things hes always got a plan, hes always the one that people are going to in the book if theyre in trouble. He seems so put together but the things he cant get information on completely eat him alive sometimes. cant let others know that tho, bc hes Cool(TM), hes Chill(TM). cant let anyone know there are things that, god forbid, hes IGNORANT of. embarrassing. tch.

his hoarding im a little ? about because i dont exactly remember the details of it but i do know he has a ridiculous amount of like trinkets and weapons and magical items and stuff in paradise manor, but i also know he doesnt really care if they get destroyed or not, which is kind of strange but i do what i want and im making him a hoarder bc im somewhat of a hoarder and i love projecting. though now that i think about it. like if i have a big pile of something that i dont want to get rid of, but someone else does it for me without asking or something happens to it like yeah i get angry but sometimes i also just get kind of relieved……….. idk.

so now about intrusive thoughts, i bet he has suuper disturbing ones. Like we know how he was debating slaughtering those humans on mt tonglu but ended up not because xie lian would have saved them. obviously that was already a stressful unusual situation but like i dont think that kind of thing gets any better even when hes just like. chilling. he gets visions of himself burning ghost city to the ground or attacking humans or destroying his own ashes or otherwise causing harm to others, like yin yu. like he pretends he doesnt care about yin yu and he xuan and stuff but i do think hes fond of them, but he tries to keep his distance because 1) hes dumb and 2) he gets really freaked out by these violent thoughts he has about them. the worst is, when he finally meets xie lian again he gets these thoughts about him too and it takes literally everything he has not to like. throw himself into a volcano, or something.

and its already been established his self image isnt. great. which is a kind way of saying it. he thinks hes worthless and ugly, esp if he does even the slightest thing wrong. I mean I definitely think hes better by the current timeline of the book, but it still reads as a kind of precarious thing to me? Like he wants to be a companion to xie lian instead of just a servant like wu ming, but even after 800 years he still feels this inferiority and disregard for himself u know? If im explaining in an okay way? and body dysmorphia is also something that can be ocd related. OH and i forgot to say this before but ocd/ocpd can also sometimes be a way that ptsd can manifest and id definitely say with all that he was said to have gone through as a child he has ptsd, leading to, well, exacerbated ocd symptoms, among other things. his body dysmorphia is obviously something he internalized (for 800 years!!!) from when he was a child, and i can imagine him absolutely agonizing for centuries over his san lang form, because it was supposed to be his most perfect form, he needed to make it perfect, and he never felt like he could

similarly, for the cleanliness side of ocd that i feel is kind of stereotypical? at least how its portrayed in most media, hua cheng has been show a couple times not wanting to get things (or xie lian) dirty. he was very poor and dirty as a child so now he has the connection of being dirty = being miserable, and this is taken to the extreme when he becomes a supreme bc now hes rich and able to be clean and any dirt or blood on him or something/someone he cares about (’cant let you down the ground is dirty’; shielding the flower, etc) is like. an attack on this power he has now ? iykwim

anyway sorry this is long and rambly. if you actually read it all… respect……. Also ignore those parts where I might get a little too personal :^) like idk if it is but I feel like I might regret some of this in the morning. honks. Anywayyyy as you can see im completely normal about hua cheng im saaaaaauuuuur normal and well adjusted and I just think hes neat oky byeee jumps out my window
